IB DP Internal Assessment Online Tutor in Dubai

Families hire an IB DP internal assessment online tutor in Dubai because a coursework mark arrived that nobody can account for. This page is built on the only thing that settles the question: a sequence of dated drafts, each scored against the published criteria, with the change between versions written down. Sessions run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, the student's own document on screen, and every word that reaches the school is the student's own.

  • Each draft returned dated, scored by criterion, with the change named
  • An authorship trail the student owns, built from their own versions
  • One-to-one over live video; IB Gram runs no UAE home visits
  • A free first hour returning a written score and a diagnosis

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

A coursework mark you cannot account for is a record-keeping problem

A Diploma student carries roughly six internally assessed components, one per subject, and each is marked by the school against published criteria before the IB moderates the result. The marks matter: in most subjects the internal component is a meaningful share of the final grade, and unlike an examination it is produced slowly, in the open, over weeks. That should make it the most transparent part of the Diploma for a family. In practice it is the least, because almost nobody keeps the record that would make it transparent.

The pattern is familiar in Dubai. A student works on a science investigation or a mathematics exploration for a term, submits a draft, receives a comment, submits a final version, and a mark appears. The mark is lower than hoped. Asked what happened, the student says they did what the teacher said. Asked which criterion lost the marks, nobody knows. Asked whether the second version was better than the first, nobody can demonstrate it, because the first version was overwritten and the feedback was verbal.

The work on this page is organised to make that impossible. Every draft that passes through a session is kept, dated and scored against each criterion, and the score is written down with the reason attached. When the next version arrives it is scored again, and the two sit side by side. Movement is then a matter of record rather than of opinion: criterion B went from the lower band to the middle one on this date because the student added an uncertainty analysis, and here are both versions.

That record does three jobs at once, which is why it is worth the small effort of keeping it. It tells a family whether paid support is working, within about three weeks and without anybody needing to understand the subject. It gives the student an authorship trail — their own dated versions, in their own words — which is the simplest possible answer if anyone ever asks whether the work is theirs. And it makes the conversation with the school specific: not my child deserves more, but criterion C scored here and here is why.

Delivery is one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, with the student's own document shared on screen and annotated while they watch. IB Gram does not arrange home visits in the UAE; tutors travelling to a family's address is a service we run only in India. For coursework that is the better arrangement: the object of the work is a file, screen-sharing shows exactly which line is under discussion, and the family selects a reader who has marked that subject's component before rather than whoever happens to live within a short drive of their community.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Internally assessed work exists at every level of the IB, and a student's habits with it are formed long before DP2. The programmes below set what a Dubai student brings to their Diploma coursework, with a note on the habit that costs marks.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Each Diploma subject carries an internally assessed component with its own criteria, format and length conventions: a scientific investigation, a mathematical exploration, a historical investigation, a business research project, a language oral and so on. The school marks them and the IB moderates a sample. Confirm every weighting and length limit against the current subject guide, which your school holds, because they differ by subject and are revised periodically.

Dubai schools set their own internal draft deadlines, and those dates, not the IB upload, are what a family should plan around. The commonest avoidable loss here is a student whose only feedback round was spent on presentation because the substantive work arrived too late to change.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

MYP assesses every subject against four criteria and trains students to read a rubric and locate themselves in a band. That is the single most useful habit for Diploma coursework, and students from continuum schools usually have it. What MYP does not build is the discipline of keeping versions, because its tasks are shorter and feedback is continuous.

Dubai has a high concentration of IB continuum schools, so a large share of the Diploma cohort arrives rubric-literate. Those students benefit most from a scoring record rather than from teaching, because they can act on a band descriptor once somebody shows them where their own draft sits in it.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE

IGCSE coursework, where it exists, is tightly specified and heavily scaffolded, and much of the qualification is assessed by written papers. Students arriving from a British-curriculum Year 11 are used to being told what a good answer contains. Diploma coursework asks them to design the task, which is a different skill, and the first draft usually shows a well-written piece of work answering nobody's question in particular.

With UK curriculum at 37 per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment, this is the commonest route into Diploma coursework in the emirate. One scored read of a first draft in the opening weeks of the component tells a family precisely which of the two problems they have, and it is usually not the one they expected.

COREAges 16-19 · Both DP years

The Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS

The core adds a 4,000-word research essay, an assessed essay and exhibition, and an unmarked but mandatory experiential programme, all competing with six internal components for the same months. None of them can be rescued at the same time as the others, which is why ordering the work by marks at risk beats ordering it by nearest deadline.

In Dubai schools the heaviest coursework weeks and the Extended Essay internal deadline tend to land in the same half-term. A family holding a dated record of each component's current criterion scores can order that fortnight rationally; a family without one orders it by whichever teacher sent the most recent email.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Internal assessment means something different in each subject, and so does the evidence that it is improving. The notes below say what the component is and what visible change looks like in it, which is the thing a family can actually check between drafts.

Biology

HL and SL

An individual scientific investigation. Movement between drafts shows up as a research question narrowed to something measurable, controlled variables actually controlled, and an evaluation that names specific limitations rather than apologising generally.

Chemistry

HL and SL

A scientific investigation where data handling carries most of the weight. Visible improvement looks like uncertainties propagated rather than mentioned, graphs with error bars that are used in the argument, and a conclusion tied to the data instead of to the textbook.

Physics

HL and SL

An investigation in which the treatment of uncertainty is usually the difference between bands. A second draft that moves has quantified uncertainty, justified the number of trials, and discussed whether the relationship found is the one the theory predicts.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

A mathematical exploration marked on presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and the use of mathematics. Improvement looks like notation made consistent, a genuine personal reason for the topic, and mathematics used rather than quoted.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

An exploration more often built on real data, which brings its own failure mode: a dataset described at length and modelled thinly. A draft that has moved shows a model fitted, tested and criticised, with the limitations of the data stated plainly.

History

HL and SL

A historical investigation with a sources section, an investigation and a reflection. Visible movement is a question narrowed to something answerable from available sources, and an evaluation that weighs two accounts against each other rather than describing each in turn.

Economics

HL and SL

A portfolio of commentaries on published articles rather than a single piece of work, which changes what evidence looks like: three separate short pieces, each applying a different part of the syllabus, each needing its own diagram used as analysis.

Business Management

HL and SL

A research project on a real organisation. The commonest drift is towards description of the company, and a draft that has improved shows tools applied to a defined research question with the limitations of the evidence acknowledged.

Psychology

HL and SL

An experimental study written up formally. Movement appears in the method section first: a procedure specified tightly enough to replicate, ethical considerations handled properly, and an analysis that matches the design rather than the hypothesis.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

An individual oral on a global issue with extracts. Evidence of progress is narrowing: a global issue specific enough that two extracts can genuinely demonstrate it, with a recording that stays on the issue rather than touring the works.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Coursework support comes in four shapes, distinguished by how much marking each contains and what written record it leaves. All run one-to-one over live video with the student's own document on screen.

Scored read of a draft

One hour in which an existing draft is read beforehand, scored against every criterion and returned annotated, with a short conversation about the two or three changes carrying the most marks. The output is a dated document, which is also the first entry in the record.

  • Whole draft read before the session
  • A score and a reason against each criterion
  • Two or three changes ranked by marks at risk
  • No continuing booking required

Two-cycle drafting block

Three or four hours across several weeks covering a full drafting arc: scored read, the student's revision, second scored read, final check. The deliberate gap between sessions is where the student works. The block ends with both versions and both score sets in one file.

  • Three or four hours across four to six weeks
  • Both versions kept, neither overwritten
  • Criterion movement stated in writing
  • A closing note of risks left open

Question and method clinic

A single early hour testing whether the proposed question is answerable with the apparatus, data or sources actually available to the student in Dubai. The cheapest hour in any coursework component, because it prevents the failure that no amount of later drafting can repair.

  • Three candidate questions tested, not one defended
  • Access to apparatus, data or sources checked explicitly
  • A written note of the surviving question and its limits
  • An honest verdict when a question cannot work

Multi-component triage

One hour when three or more components are due at once and the family has to choose. Each is scored where a draft exists, and the hours are then ordered by marks at risk rather than by nearest deadline. Used in the fortnight most Dubai DP2 students describe as the worst of the year.

  • Every existing draft scored quickly against its criteria
  • Components ranked by marks at risk
  • A written plan naming what will be left imperfect
  • Scheduling adjusted for Ramadan on request

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What a marked internal assessment draft proves, and what it only suggests

An IB DP internal assessment online tutor in Dubai is useful in direct proportion to the record they leave behind. Families are routinely offered things that look like evidence of progress and are not: an encouraging verbal report, a teacher's predicted grade, a tutor's confidence, a student's own sense that the work is better now. None of those survives contact with a criterion. The table below separates what genuinely proves something from what merely resembles proof.

The distinction matters because the two are priced the same. An hour of pleasant discussion about a mathematics exploration and an hour producing a scored annotated version of it cost identically in this market, and only one of them leaves a family able to answer the question they came with. The useful test of any coursework arrangement is simple: at the end of it, what document exists that did not exist before, and what number is written on it?

There is a second reason to insist on the record, and it concerns the student rather than the family. A dated sequence of versions in the student's own words is the plainest evidence of authorship available, and it costs nothing to keep. Coursework is produced out of sight over weeks, the market contains providers selling finished work, and a student who can show their own drafting history is in a straightforwardly better position than one who cannot.

The last row of the table is the one families find hardest to accept. A teacher's predicted grade is not evidence about a specific component; it is a professional judgement formed across a whole subject, and it can be generous or harsh for reasons that have nothing to do with the coursework in question. Treating it as a measurement is the commonest way a family discovers a problem two weeks before submission instead of two months before it.

02

Draft one to draft two: what movement actually looks like

The abstract claim that coursework improves is worth replacing with a concrete account of what changes between versions. The table below follows a science investigation, the component Dubai students most often seek help with, through a normal two-cycle arc. Nothing in it is unusual or heroic. It is what a competent drafting process looks like when somebody scores each version and the student does the work in between.

The useful feature of this sequence is where the movement sits. Almost none of it comes from better writing. It comes from a research question narrowed until it is measurable, from variables actually controlled rather than listed, from uncertainty quantified instead of mentioned, and from an evaluation that names a specific limitation and its effect on the conclusion. Those are substantive changes a student makes to their own work, which is why the gap between sessions is the part of the arrangement that produces the marks.

Two warnings belong with the table. The criterion names and mark totals differ between subjects and are set by the current subject guide your school holds, so the column describing what is under test is framed by what it examines rather than by a letter that may change. And the movement shown is typical rather than promised; a student who has not collected usable data cannot be drafted into a strong investigation, which is exactly why the question and method clinic exists before any of this starts.

What the sequence rules out is also valuable. If a second scored read on the same component shows no movement on any criterion, something specific is wrong: the student did not make the changes, the changes were the wrong ones, or the diagnosis missed the real problem. All three are findings, and all three are better discovered in week four than after submission. A record makes that visible; a weekly conversation does not.

Reading a supervisor's comment on coursework

Dubai teachers write coursework feedback under real time pressure, often across a hundred pieces of work, and the result is compressed. Parents are rarely given the key, and students frequently act on the surface meaning rather than the intended one. Decoding it is free and is the highest-return ten minutes available to a family, because it converts feedback the school has already supplied into instructions the student can follow.

Several comments recur across subjects with stable meanings. More detail on your method almost never means write a longer method; it means the procedure is not specified tightly enough for somebody else to repeat it. Discuss your results means the analysis has reported numbers without interpreting them against the question. Your evaluation is general means the limitations named could apply to any investigation in any subject, which earns nothing. Consider your personal engagement, in a mathematics exploration, means the topic has no visible reason for existing beyond its convenience.

A second class of comment is about scope, and it is the one students most often misread as encouragement to add. Narrow your focus, be more selective and this is ambitious are all instructions to remove material, not to explain it better. Coursework length conventions are set by the subject guide and are tighter than students assume, so adding to a draft that is already over its conventions compounds the problem the comment was raising.

There is also a boundary visible in these comments that families should understand rather than resent. A supervisor's permitted involvement in coursework is defined, and the amount of comment they may give on a draft is limited. A teacher who writes three lines on a twelve-page investigation may be following the rules rather than neglecting your child, and a family who understands that stops reading brevity as indifference. It is also a sound reason to use an external scored reader, whose role is explicitly to mark and diagnose rather than to supervise.

04

A six-week record across two components

Most Dubai families arrive needing help with more than one component, because the coursework weeks cluster. The six-week shape below handles two at once without pretending that both can be worked in parallel. It alternates, and it is built so that the student always has three weeks of their own work in front of them while the other component rests.

The sequence front-loads measurement. Weeks one and two score what exists on both components, which is the only way to decide which one deserves the hours. A family that chooses by nearest deadline usually spends its money on the component that was already in decent shape, because the deadline that arrived first was the one the school scheduled first, not the one at greatest risk.

The final column is the point of publishing this at all. Everything in it can be checked by a parent who has never studied the subject: a document exists or it does not, a score is written on it or it is not, two versions sit side by side or only one does. Nobody needs to judge whether a mathematics exploration is good to verify that it has been scored twice and that the second score is higher.

If a fortnight passes with no new artefact on either component, the cause is almost always one of three things in a Dubai school year: a clash with the Extended Essay internal deadline, a week of mocks nobody flagged, or data that was never actually collected and a student covering for it. All three show up in the record quickly, and the third is the one worth checking first, because it is the only one that cannot be solved by rescheduling.

05

Why the mark the school gives is not always the mark that arrives

Internally assessed work is marked by the school and moderated by the IB, which samples work from each school and checks whether the marks awarded match the standard. If the school has been generous across the sample, marks can come down; if it has been harsh, they can go up. The adjustment applies to the cohort rather than to an individual appeal, and it means a mark a teacher writes on a draft is an informed prediction rather than a final result.

This is the strongest practical argument for a record. A student whose work holds up against the published criteria when read by somebody outside the school is in a different position from one whose mark depends on a generous internal standard. The record does not change how moderation works, and nothing a tutor does can. What it does is tell a family, before submission, whether the mark they have been shown is likely to survive an external reading.

It also changes which feedback is worth acting on. A comment that reflects a school's house style — a preferred structure, a favoured referencing format, a particular way of laying out a method — is worth following for the sake of the relationship and carries little weight externally. A comment about whether the evaluation names specific limitations goes directly to a criterion. Distinguishing between them is most of what an external scored read supplies, and students cannot reliably do it themselves.

None of this is a reason to treat the school as an adversary. A subject teacher marking a hundred coursework pieces, with their own cohort's results on the line, is in general applying the criteria as carefully as time allows, and they know the student. The family's job is narrower: to make sure the student's work is strong against the published descriptors rather than strong relative to the class, because moderation reads the former and the class ranking is invisible to it.

06

Six components, one second year: ordering by marks at risk

The structural problem of DP2 is not that coursework is hard; it is that six components, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge all have internal deadlines inside the same two terms, and schools set them independently. Families respond by working on whatever is due next, which is the one ordering guaranteed to be wrong, because the nearest deadline carries no information about where the marks are.

Ordering by marks at risk requires two facts per component: roughly what share of the subject grade it carries, and roughly where the current draft sits against the criteria. The first is in the subject guide the school holds. The second is a scored read. With both, the arithmetic is usually unambiguous: a component sitting in a low band on a heavily weighted subject deserves the hours, and a component already in a solid band does not, even if it is due on Sunday.

The honest part of this is that something will be left imperfect, and the plan should name it in writing. A student with three deadlines in a fortnight cannot bring all three to their best, and pretending otherwise produces three mediocre submissions instead of two good ones and one adequate one. Writing down which component is being allowed to sit at its current level is uncomfortable and it is the decision that most improves the total.

Two Dubai-specific factors belong in the ordering. Laboratory and apparatus access is finite and timetabled, so a science component whose data collection has not happened may be constrained by the school calendar rather than by the student. And Ramadan changes the household rhythm and the school day; sessions move to post-Iftar slots readily, but the quantity of deep work available in those weeks is lower, and a plan built on the assumption that it is not will fail.

07

The authorship trail, and who may lawfully teach your child

Coursework is where academic honesty is most exposed, because it is produced over weeks and out of sight, and the market contains providers who sell finished work. One researched competitor advertises completed Internal Assessments outright. Under IB rules the consequence of submitting work that is not the student's own falls on the candidate and can reach the loss of the Diploma. The record described on this page is, among other things, the simplest protection against ever being in that position.

The boundary for a tutor is narrow and completely workable. A tutor may read, score against the criteria, explain what a descriptor is asking for, model a move on a different example, ask the questions that expose a gap, and record what was discussed and what changed. A tutor may not put sentences into the student's document, choose the research question on the student's behalf, restructure the text themselves, or supply the content of an evaluation or reflection. Every word a school uploads must be the student's own, and dated versions in the student's own words demonstrate that without anyone having to assert it.

Two further restraints are worth stating because competitors breach them. Past papers, mark schemes, subject guides and grade-boundary tables belong to the IB, Cambridge or Pearson; a legitimate provider cites and links them rather than distributing copies, and unreleased material carries a malpractice exposure as well as a copyright one. And no tutoring provider should attach the name of a regulator — KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education — or of an examination board to language about approval, accreditation or authorisation unless it holds that specific permit and can produce the number. IB Gram holds none and implies none.

On permits, the position is clear and useful to know before paying anyone. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated: the MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and since no fine schedule has been published, any amount quoted to you is unverified. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules additionally bar school staff from paid tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, so the idea of hiring your child's own subject teacher privately is an arrangement to decline.

08

Dubai practicalities, and what coursework support costs here

Dubai's private-school sector taught 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering seventeen curricula in 2024-25, according to the Dubai Media Office, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for 7 per cent of enrolment and UK curriculum 37 per cent. The scale has a direct effect on coursework: large cohorts mean a subject teacher may be marking a hundred internally assessed pieces, and detailed per-student criterion commentary at that volume is not realistic however good the teacher is. A second scored reader is a practical response rather than a criticism.

The emirate's calendar shapes the work too. Schools set their own internal draft deadlines ahead of the IB upload, and those are the dates that bind. Ramadan shortens the school day and shifts the evening; sessions move to post-Iftar slots on request, but the amount of deep work available in those weeks is genuinely lower and a plan should say so. The summer between DP1 and DP2 is the best uninterrupted stretch for data collection and first drafts, and it is also when a large share of Dubai families travel, which an online arrangement survives and an in-person one does not.

This page does not publish an IB examination or results date. The IB's own site cannot be verified by automated checking, and an unconfirmed date is worse than none for a family planning around it; UAE schools sit the May session, and your DP coordinator holds the current timetable and the internal deadlines that matter more. Where dates are published and sourced they make the same point about early deadlines. Cambridge runs a June series and a November series for UAE candidates, with entries closing in the spring for the June papers; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November, with the November 2026 timetable ending 19 November 2026 and its results reaching students the following January. An Internal Assessment deadline behaves the same way: it falls months before the examination it contributes to, it is set by the school rather than by the board, and once it passes the mark it produced is the mark that goes forward.

On price, published Dubai market rates are wide. Budget online platforms advertise from roughly AED 45 to AED 150 an hour, with EdFlik from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52. Qualified online subject tutors sit around AED 150 to AED 300, Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. IB specialists run about AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table showing AED 200 to AED 450 or more. In-home visits, with travel inside the rate, run roughly AED 180 to AED 500, and premium named tutoring reaches AED 650, as BartyED publishes. Those are other providers' published figures read in October 2026 and not our price list. IB Gram arranges no home visits in the UAE: Dubai coursework support is one-to-one over live video, and the first diagnostic hour is free with no card required.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Coursework in Dubai is shaped by access and by the hours left in an evening. The notes below record what practically affects internal assessment work in each area rather than describing the neighbourhood.

Al Safa

Close to the older school cluster with short commutes, so students here can work in the evening without losing an hour to traffic. Laboratory time is the binding constraint on science coursework rather than travel, and it has to be booked around the school's own timetable.

Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Apartment living with limited space for a home experiment, which pushes science students towards questions answerable with school apparatus or secondary data. That decision should be made at the question stage, not discovered when the data refuses to arrive.

Dubai Sports City

Heavy training schedules for a large share of students, so coursework weeks collide with competition weeks. A dated record of each component's criterion scores is what makes it possible to decide which deadline to protect when two are unavoidable.

Al Khawaneej

Villa communities at a distance from the central school belt, with long school runs. Coursework here tends to concentrate into weekends, which suits the drafting cycle well: a full version written in one sitting is easier to score than a page at a time.

Dubai Creek Harbour

Newer developments with young families and recently opened schools nearby. First cohorts through a component mean teachers applying the criteria for the first time too, which is exactly when an external scored read earns its place.

The Sustainable City

Unusual access to real environmental data on the doorstep, which supports genuinely good Biology and Environmental Systems questions. Students here can gather primary data without a laboratory, provided the question is designed around what is actually measurable.

Umm Suqeim

Established schools with structured coursework schedules and enforced draft deadlines. The marks most often lost in this area are in the evaluation sections, written last and quickly, which a scored read catches while there is still a feedback round left.

Al Nahda and Al Qusais

Large schools with big year groups, where a teacher may be marking a hundred coursework pieces. Detailed per-student criterion commentary is not realistic at that volume, and a second scored reader is the practical answer rather than a complaint.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Al Garhoud, Dubai Festival City and Al Jaddaf

Established schools with large Diploma cohorts and well-run coursework calendars. Students here usually get one substantive feedback round, which makes the timing of an external scored read decisive: before that round, not after it.

  • Universal American School
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Dubai English Speaking College

The Sustainable City, Dubai Land and The Villa

  • Fairgreen International School
  • GEMS FirstPoint School
  • Dwight School Dubai
  • Arcadia Global School

Al Barsha South, Dubai Science Park and Motor City

Share whatever exists, the subject and level, and the school's internal draft deadline rather than the IB date. Incomplete work is more useful than a tidy summary, because the gaps are the diagnosis, and most families send the wrong deadline because nobody told them the two differ.

  2. 02

    The free scored read

One hour, online and one-to-one, no card required. The draft is read beforehand, scored against every criterion, and returned annotated with two or three changes ranked by marks at risk. That document is the first entry in the record, and it is yours whether or not anything is booked afterwards.

  3. 03

Agree the cycle and keep both versions

A drafting block is agreed as scored read, student revision, second scored read, final check, with a deliberate gap for the student's own work. Nothing is overwritten: each version is kept dated with its scores, which is what makes movement a matter of record rather than of opinion.

  4. 04

Revise alone, then be scored again

The two to three weeks between sessions are the student's. A tutor reads, scores, questions, models and records, and supplies no sentences for the document. The second score sits beside the first, naming which criterion moved and because of what change the student made.

  5. 05

Review the record, then stop or reorder

If criterion scores moved, the remaining hours go to the component with the most marks still at risk. If they did not, the diagnosis was wrong or the changes were not made, and the arrangement changes. Continuing to buy hours the record does not support is the commonest overspend here.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The record is the product

Dated drafts, a score and a reason against each criterion, and the change between versions written down. A family can judge the arrangement from that within three weeks without understanding the subject, and can stop without an awkward conversation because the evidence makes the decision.

The gap between sessions is deliberate

Two to three weeks of the student's own revision is where the marks actually come from. We recommend buying nothing during it, which costs billable hours and consistently produces better coursework than a weekly arrangement over the same period.

Ordered by marks at risk, not by deadline

Working on whatever is due next is the one ordering guaranteed to be wrong. Scoring every existing draft first makes the arithmetic clear, and the plan names in writing which component is being allowed to sit at its current level, because something always is.

An authorship trail the student owns

Versions in the student's own words, each dated, are the plainest evidence of authorship available and cost nothing to keep. Providers in this market sell finished coursework; under IB rules the consequence of submitting it falls on the candidate, up to the loss of the Diploma.

Readers who have marked that component

A Chemistry investigation and a mathematics exploration fail in different ways against different criteria. Online delivery means a Dubai family selects on whether the reader has marked that subject's component rather than on who covers their area, which for coursework is the decisive question.

A stated fallback instead of a placement

When no specialist in a particular subject's component is free, we say so and offer a different slot, a generic research-writing read on the parts that are subject-neutral, or a wait. Placing a generalist and describing them as a specialist is how the upper bands in this market get justified.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How do we know an internal assessment draft has actually improved?+

By holding two dated versions, each scored against the same criteria, and reading the scores side by side. That is the only comparison that settles it. A draft can read more fluently and score identically, because in most components the marks sit in the method, the data handling and the evaluation rather than in the prose. If a second scored read shows no movement on any criterion, that is a finding worth having in week four: either the changes were not made, or they were the wrong ones, or the original diagnosis missed the real problem.

What should a scored coursework read come back with?+

Four things, in writing. A score against every criterion with one sentence of reasoning each. Annotations on the draft itself showing where the problem sits. Two or three changes ranked by the marks they put at risk, so the student knows what to do first. And an honest note of anything that can no longer be changed, such as data that was never collected or a question too broad to rescue this late. A read that comes back as general encouragement has cost an hour and left no record.

Can we find out the criterion score before the school marks the work?+

You can find out where a draft currently sits against the published criteria, which is not the same as knowing the mark. An external reader applies the descriptors and reports a band with reasons; the school then marks the submitted version and the IB moderates a sample from the cohort. The value of the earlier reading is timing rather than prediction: it arrives while there is still a feedback round and a revision left, which is the only point at which the information is worth anything.

My daughter's coursework mark came out below the mark on her draft. How?+

Three ordinary explanations. The final version may differ from the draft that was commented on, sometimes in ways that lost marks. A teacher's comment on a draft is an informed prediction rather than a mark, and the submitted work is marked afresh. And the IB moderates a sample from each school, so if the cohort's marks sat above the standard they can be adjusted downwards. None of this is an appeal route for one student. It is an argument for checking the work against the published descriptors before submission rather than after.

How many drafts of an internally assessed component does a student get?+

Schools differ, and the supervisor's permitted involvement in coursework is itself defined, so one substantive feedback round is common and two is generous. That constraint decides when outside help is worth having: before the school's feedback round, so the student uses it on the remaining problems rather than on the obvious ones. Families who commission a scored read after the school's only round have paid for information they can no longer fully act on. Ask the coordinator how many rounds your child's subject allows.

What evidence shows my child wrote their coursework themselves?+

A dated sequence of their own versions, kept rather than overwritten, plus a brief note of what each outside session covered. That costs nothing to maintain and it is the plainest answer available if anybody ever asks. It also helps the student, because the reflection elements several components require are much easier to write from real notes than from memory. Any provider who discourages keeping this trail, or who returns work with changes already made in the document, is telling you something important about their model.

Our school gives one round of feedback. Is a second outside reader allowed?+

Getting feedback on your own work is a normal part of learning and is not what academic honesty rules prohibit. What they prohibit is submitting work that is not the student's own. A reader who scores a draft against published criteria, explains what a descriptor asks for and questions the student's reasoning is doing something legitimate; a reader who edits the document to completion is not. Keep the dated versions, keep a note of what each session covered, and tell the supervisor you are getting the work read if you are in any doubt.

How long after starting support should a coursework score move?+

One full drafting cycle, which in practice is three to five weeks: a scored read, two or three weeks of the student's own revision, then a second scored read. Movement appears first on the criteria that respond to specific technical changes, such as specifying controls or propagating uncertainties. Criteria rewarding deeper understanding move more slowly and sometimes not at all this late, which an honest first read says in advance. A provider predicting a particular mark by a particular date is describing something nobody can deliver.

Which component should we work on when three are due at once?+

The one with the most marks at risk, which is rarely the one due first. That requires two facts per component: roughly what share of the subject grade it carries, which is in the subject guide the school holds, and where the current draft sits against the criteria, which is a scored read. A component already in a solid band does not need the hours even if its deadline is nearest. Write down which component is being left at its current level; something always is, and naming it improves the total.

Should we keep a tutor's annotated version of a draft?+

Yes, with the date, alongside the student's own version from before and after. It is part of the authorship trail and it is also the only way to verify later that the advice given was the advice acted on. Keep it as a separate file rather than merging the annotations into the working document, so the student's own text stays clearly their own. Families who maintain this file find it answers most questions about progress without anyone needing to reopen the subject matter.

What does a weak data section look like in a science investigation?+

Numbers presented and then abandoned. The symptoms are consistent: raw data tabulated without uncertainties, a graph with a line of best fit and no error bars, no justification for the number of trials, and a conclusion that agrees with the textbook rather than with the data gathered. Strong sections treat uncertainty as part of the argument and state what the data cannot support. That shift is usually two or three hours of the student's own work after one scored read, and it is the single largest movement available in most science components.

Can a parent judge coursework without understanding the subject?+

You can judge the record, which is enough. Does a dated draft exist? Is there a score against each criterion with a reason? Is there a second dated version with a second score? Is the second score higher, and does the note say which change moved it? Those four questions require no subject knowledge and they expose a stalled arrangement within three weeks. What a parent cannot do is assess whether an exploration is mathematically interesting, which is exactly why the scoring is written down.

Does the IB ever raise an internally assessed mark rather than lower it?+

Moderation works in both directions. The IB samples work from each school and compares the marks awarded against the standard; a school that has marked harshly across its sample can see marks adjusted upwards, just as a generous school can see them come down. The adjustment applies to the cohort rather than to an individual request. The practical consequence for a family is the same either way: work that holds up against the published descriptors when read from outside the school is in a stronger position than work that depends on a lenient internal standard.

Does online support work for practical and laboratory components?+

For the laboratory work itself, no, and nobody should claim otherwise; the apparatus and the school's safety supervision are the school's. For everything the marks actually depend on, yes. The question's design, the method's specification, the handling of uncertainty, the construction of graphs, the evaluation and the write-up are all document work, and they carry most of the available marks. Screen-sharing shows precisely which line or which figure is under discussion, which is more exact than looking at a page over somebody's shoulder.

Is in-person coursework supervision available from IB Gram in Dubai?+

No. We do not arrange in-person tutoring anywhere in the UAE; tutors travelling to a family's address is a service we offer only in India. Dubai coursework support is delivered one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, with the student's own document on screen and annotated while they watch. For internally assessed work that is the stronger arrangement: the family selects a reader who has marked that specific subject's component rather than whoever covers their area, and the arrangement survives the weeks when the family travels.

One scored read, and you will know where you stand

If a coursework mark has arrived that nobody can account for, the useful first step is one hour and costs nothing. Send the draft, the subject and the school's internal deadline, and take the free scored read: it comes back with a score and a reason against every criterion, annotations on the draft itself, two or three changes ranked by the marks they put at risk, and an honest note on anything that can no longer be changed. Keep the document whether or not you book anything further. It is the first entry in a record most families never get.
