IB DP Digital Society Tutor in Dubai

An IB DP Digital Society tutor in Dubai has to teach a subject most schools are teaching for the first time. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time around a Dubai school week, and the work is specific: turning an opinion into a claim with evidence, building a bank of real examples your child can defend under timed conditions, and getting the inquiry project to a research question that can actually be answered. The first lesson is free and diagnostic.

  • Lessons run one-to-one over live video, never a group class
  • Written feedback after every session, with the next target named
  • Tutors read and question the student's own work, never produce it
  • First lesson free, with no payment details taken to book it

Why this subject trips up good students in their first Diploma year

Digital Society is the newest subject on the Diploma timetable. It replaced Information Technology in a Global Society, moved into classrooms in September 2024, and reached its first examination session in 2026. That timeline matters more than it sounds. It means your child's teacher is almost certainly teaching the course for the first or second time, that the archive of past papers every other subject leans on barely exists, and that the exemplar answers circulating between Dubai staff rooms are still few enough to count. Families searching for an IB DP Digital Society tutor in Dubai are usually reacting to a first report that says something vague: strong ideas, insufficient evidence, needs to develop analysis.

The subject looks approachable on the option sheet, which is part of the problem. Students who read widely and argue well in English or Global Politics assume the same approach transfers. It does not. A Digital Society answer is marked on whether a claim is anchored to named, real, current digital systems and then evaluated from more than one perspective. A paragraph that says social media harms teenagers earns almost nothing. A paragraph that names a specific platform, the recommendation algorithm behind it, who holds the data, which concept that illustrates, and what the counter-case is, earns the marks. The gap between those two paragraphs is not intelligence; it is method, and method is teachable in a handful of sessions.

The second pressure is the inquiry project, which is the largest single piece of internally assessed work in the course and the one students begin too late. It is not a research essay in the school-report sense. It demands a researchable question about a real digital system, a defensible choice of sources, and an argument that survives examination. Dubai students often choose a topic that is genuinely interesting but impossible to evidence, then lose six weeks discovering that. A tutor who has read several of these through to submission can usually tell inside one session whether a question will hold.

Online delivery suits the subject better than most. Everything the course studies is on a screen already: platforms, interfaces, datasets, policy documents, news coverage. A session over live video can open the actual artefact the student is writing about, annotate the student's draft in the same window, and leave the marked version behind. IB Gram's UAE tuition is delivered this way as standard. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service, and the trade-off is explained in plain terms further down this page.

What follows is the working detail rather than a sales pitch: how answers are actually marked, which UAE examples hold up as evidence, how to pick an inquiry question that can be researched from Dubai, what the two years look like counted backwards from the May session, what the Dubai market charges for this kind of help, and where the honesty line sits in a subject that spends half its time discussing artificial intelligence.

At a glance

  • First examinations sat in 2026, so the past-paper archive is thin and revision has to be built differently
  • Marks follow claim, evidence and evaluation; fluent opinion without a named system scores poorly
  • The inquiry project is the largest internally assessed component and the most common late start
  • Higher Level adds an extension paper on challenges and interventions, which needs its own answer shape
  • Sessions run online over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time around Dubai school hours
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Digital Society sits in the Diploma, but the students who cope with it best usually arrive with habits built earlier. These are the three IB programmes a Dubai family is most likely to be choosing between or moving through, and what each one contributes to this particular subject.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

The two-year Diploma, where Digital Society sits in Group 3 alongside Economics, Geography, Global Politics, History, Psychology and Business Management. Students take it at Standard or Higher Level, with Higher Level adding an extension on challenges and interventions. Assessment combines externally marked papers with the internally assessed inquiry project, so coursework deadlines inside the school term carry real weight long before the examination session.

Dubai is the densest Diploma market in the UAE, with KHDA counting 227 private schools in 2024-25 and International Baccalaureate students making up roughly seven in every hundred across the emirate's private sector. Digital Society availability varies school by school, because it depends on which teacher the school has been able to redeploy from the old ITGS course or recruit new, and that is often why a Dubai family looks outside school for subject help.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The five-year programme that feeds the Diploma in continuum schools. Its Design and Individuals and Societies courses are where the habits Digital Society rewards are first built: investigating a real context, citing sources properly, and evaluating a solution rather than describing it. Students arriving into the Diploma from MYP usually handle the inquiry project more comfortably than those arriving from a purely examination-led system.

Several Dubai schools run the full continuum, which means a student can reach Digital Society having already written structured investigations with a bibliography. Students transferring in from IGCSE or a CBSE background in Dubai are often strong on content recall and unpractised at evaluation, and the first few online sessions usually go on closing that specific gap rather than teaching new material.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

The IB's career-linked route, where students combine DP courses with a career-related study and a personal and professional skills element. Digital Society is a natural DP course inside a CP built around technology, media or business, and the reflective project asks for the same evidence discipline the inquiry project does.

The Career-related Programme is offered by a small number of UAE schools rather than being widely available, so most Dubai families reading this page are looking at the full Diploma. Where a student is on the CP route, the tutoring work is usually heavier on the reflective project and lighter on examination technique, and sessions are planned against the school's own internal deadlines.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Digital Society is rarely the only subject a family wants help with. These are the courses Dubai students most often take alongside it, with the specific place marks tend to disappear in each, so a parent can judge whether one tutor or two is the sensible plan.

Digital Society

HL and SL

Marked on claim, evidence and evaluation across data, algorithms, computers, networks, media and artificial intelligence. Marks are lost on unsupported generalisation, examples that are vague or out of date, and single-perspective answers. The Higher Level extension on challenges and interventions needs a separate answer structure from the papers.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Often confused with Digital Society by option-sheet readers. This one is programming, data structures, computational thinking and a developed solution. Students who want to build software should be here; students who want to argue about the consequences of software belong in Digital Society. A few Dubai students take both and need help keeping the two answer styles separate.

Business Management

HL and SL

Shares the case-study discipline. Marks disappear where students describe a business tool rather than applying it to the stimulus, and where evaluation is a final sentence rather than a thread. Students pairing it with Digital Society can reuse one bank of real companies across both subjects if the examples are kept current.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and definition precision decide a large share of the marks, and the internal assessment commentaries are a recurring pressure point in the first Diploma year. Students who find Digital Society's open-ended questions comfortable often find the technical discipline here much harder, and that is usually what tutoring targets.

Global Politics

HL and SL

The closest neighbour to Digital Society in argument style, built on key concepts, case studies and perspectives. The overlap on governance, power and regulation is real and useful. The risk is a student recycling a political argument into a Digital Society answer without anchoring it to a specific digital system, which marks poorly.

Psychology

HL and SL

Studies, ethics and research methods are the marked content, and students lose ground by narrating a study instead of evaluating its method. The research-methods teaching transfers directly to the inquiry project, so a student taking both usually needs less support on project design and more on examination timing.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The route most Digital Society students take, because its statistics and modelling content matches how they think. Marks go missing in the technology-assisted questions and in interpreting output rather than generating it. The data-handling confidence it builds is directly useful when an inquiry project involves a dataset.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The non-literary texts half of this course — advertising, news, digital media — overlaps with Digital Society's media content. Marks are lost on paper one where students summarise the text rather than analysing how it works. Students strong here often write Digital Society answers that read well and evidence badly.

Design Technology

HL and SL

The making counterpart to Digital Society's analysis. Both carry a major internally assessed project and both reward evidence of iteration rather than a polished final artefact. Dubai students taking both tend to need help scheduling two coursework cycles that peak in the same term.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Compulsory, assessed by essay and exhibition, and the place Digital Society students can gain quickly. The course's questions about evidence, technology and knowledge map onto Digital Society content, and a student who can handle one usually transfers to the other with a few targeted sessions on essay structure.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families use Digital Society support, with honest notes on who each one suits. All of it is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video; there is no group class and no Dubai classroom to travel to.

Weekly one-to-one, built around the school's teaching order

The standard pattern in the first Diploma year. One sixty-minute session a week, following whatever the school is teaching, with the session spent converting that week's content into answer-shaped notes and one timed question. The tutor marks the question before the next session so the feedback arrives while the content is still fresh.

  • One 60-minute session weekly, same slot each week where possible
  • Session plan follows the school's sequence, not a fixed curriculum
  • One timed question set and marked between sessions
  • Short written note to the parent after each session with the next target

Inquiry project review block

A fixed block of sessions, usually four to six, timed to the school's internal project deadlines. The first session tests whether the research question can be evidenced at all. Later sessions work on source selection, the structure of the argument, and the evaluation that students routinely leave until last. The student writes every word.

  • Session one is a question viability check, before any writing happens
  • Source map built with the student, with reliability judged out loud
  • Draft read and questioned, with comments that ask rather than rewrite
  • Scheduled backwards from the school's own submission date

Pre-session intensive before mocks or the May papers

A short, dense block for students who need examination technique rather than content. Sessions are built on timed questions under real conditions, marked against the published assessment criteria, with a running list of the student's own repeat errors. Most families book this in blocks of six to ten hours rather than weekly.

  • Timed questions under examination conditions, then marked line by line
  • A written error log the student keeps and reviews before each paper
  • Example bank audited for anything out of date or too vague to use
  • Higher Level students spend at least a third of the block on the extension paper

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

What the first month of Digital Society tutoring actually fixes

An IB DP Digital Society tutor in Dubai working with a new student spends the first session diagnosing, not teaching. The tutor asks for two things: the most recent marked piece of work, and the student's own list of real-world examples. Those two documents tell you almost everything. A marked answer shows whether the student is losing marks on knowledge, on structure, or on evidence. The example list shows whether there is anything to build an answer from, and in roughly nine cases out of ten the list is either empty or made up of stories the student half-remembers from the news.

The fix for the first failure is mechanical. Students write what they think about a digital system and assume the thinking is the answer. The marker is looking for a claim, the specific system that supports it, the concept it illustrates, and a counter-perspective. Rehearsing that shape on short questions, out loud, with the tutor interrupting at the point the evidence should appear, changes scores faster than any amount of content revision. Most students need three or four sessions of this before the shape becomes automatic.

The fix for the second failure is slower and more useful. The student builds a personal example bank, kept in one document, with each entry carrying the system, who owns it, what data it uses, the concepts it illustrates and the contexts it sits in. Twelve good entries, properly annotated, will cover almost any question the papers can ask. Building that bank is homework the tutor checks weekly, and it is the single most transferable thing a Digital Society student can own.

By the end of a first month, a family should be able to see three concrete changes: answers that name systems instead of gesturing at them, a written example bank that did not exist before, and a marked timed question with a score the student can explain. If none of those three has moved, the tutoring is not working and the match should change.

02

How a Digital Society answer is actually marked

Command terms do more work in this subject than students expect. The verb at the front of the question sets the depth of response and, with it, the mark ceiling. An answer that describes where the question says evaluate cannot reach the top band regardless of how much the student knows. Dubai students who have come through IGCSE are particularly prone to this, because the reward structure there is weighted towards accurate recall and they arrive expecting the same deal.

The second marking reality is that evidence has to be specific and current. Naming a company is not evidence. Naming a company, the system it runs, the data that system collects and the stakeholders affected is evidence. Examiners in a new subject are also seeing the same half-dozen famous examples in thousands of scripts, which is an argument for a student holding two or three examples nobody else will use, and a Dubai student has those available locally.

The third is perspective. A top-band answer carries more than one point of view and resolves between them rather than listing both. Students write the counter-argument as a paragraph beginning with a concessive clause and then abandon it. The repair is to make the counter-case do work: who benefits, who carries the cost, what the evidence says about which effect dominates. A tutor can model this in ten minutes and then make the student do it in writing for the next six weeks.

The table below sets out the command terms Digital Society questions lean on, what each one is actually asking for, and the failure that costs marks most often in each case.

COMMAND TERMS AND WHERE MARKS GO MISSING
Command termWhat the marker wantsThe usual failureWhat a session does about it
DescribeAn accurate account of a system or process, with the right terminologyVagueness: 'an app that collects data' instead of naming the system and the data typeTerminology drill against the student's own example bank until the language is precise
ExplainReasons or causes, linked in a chain to an outcomeA list of factors with no causal link between themRewriting answers as because-therefore chains, out loud first, then in writing
AnalyseThe parts of an issue separated out and related to each otherNarration of an example from start to finish with no breakdownForcing a structure of stakeholder, mechanism, concept, consequence
EvaluateA judgement, supported, with the opposing case weighedTwo paragraphs for and against and no judgement at the endTimed practice where the conclusion has to be written first, then defended

03

The UAE as an evidence base: examples a Dubai student can use that nobody else will

Digital Society rewards specificity, and specificity is where a student in Dubai has a genuine advantage over a student in a country with a thinner public digital infrastructure. The UAE has built, at national scale, exactly the kinds of systems the course asks students to analyse: a federal digital identity, a national artificial intelligence strategy with a minister attached to it since 2017, smart-city data programmes, platform-mediated gig work across food delivery and ride-hailing, and a personal data protection law passed as Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021. Each of these is researchable in English, locally relevant, and almost entirely absent from the scripts examiners read.

Using a local example well means doing more than naming it. The student has to be able to say what the system does technically, who operates it, what data it depends on, which stakeholders gain and lose, and what the regulatory position is. That is a research task a tutor can set and check, and it is where online delivery pays off: the session can open the regulator's own page, read the relevant clause together, and the student leaves with a sourced note rather than an impression.

There is a caution attached. A local example is only an advantage if it is accurate. Writing confidently about a UAE system and getting the operator or the legal basis wrong is worse than using a generic international example, because an examiner who notices the error discounts the whole paragraph. Sessions on this material spend as much time checking the claim as building it, and anything the student cannot source from an official page gets struck out of the example bank.

The table below maps local examples onto the content the course examines, as a starting point for a student's own research rather than a finished answer.

Writing about algorithms without turning the answer into Computer Science

The most common structural error in Digital Society answers written by able students is drift into technical explanation. A question asks about the consequences of algorithmic recommendation and the student writes four hundred words on how collaborative filtering works. The technical knowledge is real and the marks are not there. Digital Society asks what a system does to people, institutions and values. The mechanism matters only to the depth required to make the consequence intelligible.

The discipline is easier to teach as a ratio. One or two sentences of mechanism, then the consequence, then the stakeholders, then the evaluation. Students who have come from a strong computing background in a Dubai school resist this, because the mechanism is the part they are confident about and the evaluation is the part that feels like guessing. Making the evaluation concrete fixes the resistance: a judgement supported by a named outcome is not guessing, and once a student has written three of them properly the preference flips.

The reverse error exists too and is less often diagnosed. Students with no technical confidence avoid mechanism altogether and write entirely in abstractions, which reads fluently and cannot be credited because nothing is anchored to a real system. These students usually need a short, bounded technical vocabulary rather than a computing course: enough to say what training data is, what a recommendation system optimises for, what personal data means in law, and what a network dependency implies when it fails.

A tutor working on this will often set the same question twice, a fortnight apart, and show the student the two answers side by side. That comparison does more than a mark scheme, because the student can see their own drift and name it. It is also the point at which most students stop asking whether Digital Society is an easy subject.

05

The inquiry project: choosing a question that can be answered from Dubai

The inquiry project is the largest internally assessed piece of work in the course, and the stage that decides its mark happens before any writing: choosing the question. A question has to be about a real digital system, narrow enough to evidence, and open enough to argue. Students in Dubai frequently pick something global and enormous, because the big topics are the ones in the news, and then discover in week five that every source is a press release.

A workable question usually has three properties. There is a specific system or intervention at its centre rather than a technology in general. There is a stakeholder group whose experience can be documented. And there is published material from more than one kind of source: an operator or regulator, a news or industry account, and something academic or statistical. A tutor who has read several projects through to submission can test a question against those three properties in one session, which is the single highest-value hour in the whole project.

The research itself is the student's work, and the line is not negotiable. A tutor asks questions about the draft, points out where a claim is unsupported, flags a source that will not hold, and teaches the student how to evaluate reliability. A tutor does not research the project, does not supply the sources, and does not write or rewrite any part of it. IB academic honesty rules make that a malpractice exposure for the student, and a page that offered otherwise would be selling your child a risk.

Scheduling matters as much as method. Dubai school calendars put internal project deadlines inside the same weeks as mock examinations for other subjects, and a student who leaves the project until that collision loses marks in both. Review blocks are planned backwards from the school's own submission date, with the question settled early in the first year and the bulk of the writing done before the mock window opens.

06

Counting backwards from the May session: a two-year Digital Society plan

UAE schools sit the May examination session, and the calendar that actually governs a Diploma student is not the examination window but the sequence of internal deadlines before it. Entries are made by the school, usually in the autumn term of the second year, and the dates that matter to a family are the ones the school sets for drafts, mocks and submissions. We publish no specific IB examination or results date on this page: the IB's own site is the only source worth trusting for those, and your child's Diploma coordinator will have the school's version in writing.

What can be planned is the shape of the two years. The first year is content and method: building the example bank, learning the command terms, and settling the inquiry question. The second is consolidation and technique: finishing the project early, surviving mocks, and spending the final term on timed questions rather than new material. Students who invert this, leaving the project to the second year, end up revising and writing coursework in the same fortnight.

Higher Level students carry an additional load in the extension material on challenges and interventions, which has its own answer shape and cannot be absorbed in a revision week. Spreading it across the second year, a few hours a month, is far cheaper in both effort and money than a crash block in the final term. The table below sets out the sequence as it usually runs in a Dubai school year, without inventing dates that belong to the IB.

One practical note for families planning around the UAE calendar: Ramadan falls inside the Diploma teaching year, school hours shift, and energy levels change. Sessions can move later in the evening for the month, and most families find the week after is a better slot for a mock-style timed paper than the week before.

What Digital Society support costs in the Dubai market

Dubai tutoring rates are public if you look, and the band for Diploma-level subject help runs roughly from AED 150 to AED 450 an hour depending on the tutor's experience and the format. At the lower end, EdFlik published rates from AED 45 to AED 65 an hour for budget online tutoring and Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52, both for general online support rather than Diploma subject specialists. In the middle, Unitors published IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Higher up, TutorChase published AED 270 an hour and Bestimate's 2026 rate survey put specialist IB and A-Level tutoring at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with examiner-level provision at AED 650 reported for BartyED. Those are the providers' own published figures as they stood in October 2026, not our prices.

A new subject prices differently from an established one, and families should understand why before they negotiate. The pool of people who have actually taught the current Digital Society guide through to a submitted inquiry project is small, so scarcity sits at the top of the band rather than the bottom. A cheaper generalist can help with essay structure and will not be able to tell you whether a research question will survive, which is the part of the course where money is best spent.

In-home tutoring in Dubai carries a travel premium, with Bestimate putting home visits at AED 180 to AED 350 and independent home tutors between AED 200 and AED 500. Some of that is the tutor's time in traffic rather than teaching. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE at all, so this is background for your decision rather than a service comparison: our UAE delivery is online, one-to-one, and the saving sits in access to a subject specialist rather than whoever lives a short drive away.

For context on the household budget, KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package the Dubai Media Office valued at AED 1.5 billion within a larger AED 2.5 billion programme. A family planning tuition against a flat fee year has more room to think in terms of a focused block of hours around the project and the mocks than an open-ended weekly commitment.

Honesty in a course about artificial intelligence, and who may legally tutor in Dubai

Digital Society students spend part of the course studying generative artificial intelligence, which makes the academic-honesty question unusually live. The IB's position is about authenticity and acknowledgement rather than prohibition: the work submitted has to be the student's own, and any assistance or source has to be acknowledged. In practice the safe pattern is to treat an AI tool the way you would treat a conversation with a knowledgeable stranger. Use it to understand something, never to produce text that goes into an assessed piece, and record what you used and how. Your child's school will have its own written policy, and that policy governs.

What a tutor may do sits inside the same rule. A tutor teaches content, models technique, sets and marks practice questions, reads a draft and asks hard questions about it, and explains why a source will not hold. A tutor does not produce any part of assessed work, does not edit a draft to completion, and does not supply research the student should be doing. We say this on every page because two providers in this market sell completed Internal Assessments, and buying one risks the student's Diploma, not just the mark.

There is also a licensing question Dubai parents ask less often than they should. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated: the private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through MoHRE, free of charge, for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone offering private tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so no figure should be quoted at you.

Two further points worth knowing. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for Abu Dhabi school staff bar teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct runs along the same lines, so a request for your child's own class teacher is the wrong request to make. And a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is a different thing from an individual's permit. IB Gram runs no premises in the UAE and holds no regulator approval of any kind; what we do is match students to online tutors.

09

Where the subject leads: universities, equivalency and the Group 3 question

Parents ask whether a new subject will be read as a soft option, and the honest answer has two halves. Universities assess the Diploma as a whole and then look at the specific subjects a course requires. Digital Society is a Group 3 individuals and societies subject, so it satisfies that part of the Diploma's structure, and for a degree in media, law, business, politics or information management it is relevant content. For engineering or computer science degrees that specify a computing or mathematics prerequisite, it does not substitute for the subject the admissions page names.

The practical move is to read the entry requirements for the actual programmes on the student's list, including the UAE universities, and to do that in the first Diploma year rather than the second. Subject requirements are published by each institution and they change. A tutor can help a student read a requirements page properly, but no tutor should tell a family that a particular subject combination secures admission anywhere, and any provider who does is guessing with your child's options.

There is a separate UAE process families confuse with university admission: Ministry of Education equivalency, the recognition of a foreign school certificate for use inside the country. For the British track the requirements are published and specific, including five accredited IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not counted among those five, plus one A-Level at E or two AS-Levels at the same grade. For the IB there is no figure we will publish here, because no points threshold has been read on an official Ministry source; check it on moe.gov.ae or with the attestation authority in your emirate before you plan around it.

Equivalency is also not something a tutoring service performs, and nobody should imply it is. It is a government process with its own channel, it is not a reason to buy tutoring, and tutoring is not required for it. What a tutor can reasonably do is make sure a student is not caught out by a subject-count rule in the final year, which happens more often in Dubai than it should because the rule is widely misquoted. One ranking competitor currently publishes the wrong subject count for UAE candidates.

Digital Society is not evenly available across Dubai, because it depends on a school finding a teacher for a two-year-old course. These are the parts of the city families contact us from, and what the local picture tends to be for this particular subject.

Dubai Marina and JLT

Apartment-dense, heavily expatriate, and a long walk from most Diploma schools, so school runs eat the early evening. Sessions here are usually booked at 18:30 or later, after the student is home and fed, and run on the household's existing fibre connection rather than a school device.

Al Barsha and Tecom

Several large Diploma cohorts sit within a few kilometres of each other here, which means students compare predicted grades constantly. Digital Society questions from this area are often about whether the subject is taken seriously by universities, and they get a straight answer rather than reassurance.

Dubai Internet City and Media City

Families working in platform, telecoms and media companies, and students with unusually good instincts about how digital systems make money. The tutoring work here is rarely about interest and almost always about converting informed opinion into a structured, evidenced answer.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim

Older villa communities with established British-curriculum schools, so a proportion of students arrive into the Diploma from IGCSE rather than MYP. Those students are strong on recall, unpractised at evaluation, and that is the first thing a diagnostic session measures.

Dubai Hills and Arabian Ranches

Villa communities where the school day finishes with a long drive. Siblings often share a study, so sessions here are scheduled to avoid two students on video in the same room. Weekend morning slots are more popular here than anywhere else in the city.

Mirdif and Dubai Silicon Oasis

Closer to Academic City, with a mixed curriculum picture and a strong IB continuum presence. Students here frequently ask about Digital Society as a Group 3 choice against Business Management, and the honest comparison runs on how each is assessed rather than which sounds easier.

Downtown Dubai and Business Bay

High-rise living, demanding parental work schedules, and a preference for fixed weekly slots that do not move. Short-notice exam-term intensives are more common here than in the villa communities, usually booked in blocks around the school's mock window.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Central and new Dubai

Diploma schools in this band run large cohorts, and subject availability shifts year to year as staffing changes. Students we support attend schools across this cluster; a school appearing here is context for the market, not a statement about any arrangement with us.

  • Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Dubai American Academy
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai

Mirdif, Academic City and the eastern suburbs

A strong continuum presence here, so more students reach the Diploma having written structured MYP investigations. That shows up in inquiry project work, where the research-question stage usually goes faster than it does for students arriving from an examination-only background.

  • Uptown International School
  • Universal American School
  • Dwight School Dubai
  • Deira International School

Southern and western Dubai

Newer communities with newer schools, several of them still building out Group 3 provision. Families in this band are the most likely to be looking for subject help because the course is offered but thinly staffed, rather than because the student is behind.

  • JESS Arabian Ranches
  • Sunmarke School
  • Greenfield International School
  • Fairgreen International School
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai

Schools are named here as context for the Dubai Diploma market only; IB Gram claims no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school, school group or regulator.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level and the deadline

A short message with the level, the school's next internal deadline and what the last report said is usually enough. If you have a marked piece of work, send it; a diagnostic that starts from real marking is worth more than a conversation about aims.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson, used as a diagnostic

Sixty minutes, one-to-one, online. The tutor works through one question and one piece of the student's own writing, then says plainly where the marks are going. No payment details are taken to book it, and there is no obligation after it.

  3. 03

A written plan with the first three targets

After the trial you get the tutor's read in writing: what is wrong, in what order it should be fixed, and roughly how many sessions each target needs. If the honest answer is that school support plus better practice would fix it, the plan says that.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions, with marking between them

Sessions run at a fixed slot in Gulf Standard Time. Work set in one session is marked before the next, and a short note after each session tells you what was covered and what the next target is. Slots move for Ramadan, travel and examination weeks.

  5. 05

Review the evidence, change the match if it is not working

Every four to six weeks, look at the marked work rather than the feeling. If scores and written answers have not moved, ask for a different tutor; a match that is not working is a scheduling problem, not a verdict on the student.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Tutors who have taught the current guide, not the legacy course

Digital Society is not ITGS with a new name. The concepts, content strands and assessment shape are different, and a tutor who has only taught the old course will coach the wrong answer structure. Ask directly, and ask whether they have taken a student through a submitted inquiry project.

Access rather than proximity

A Dubai family looking locally is choosing from the specialists who live within a reasonable drive. Online delivery removes that constraint, which matters most in a subject this new, where the number of people who have taught it through to submission is small anywhere in the world.

Evidence a parent can check

Marked work, a written note after each session, and a visible error log. You should never have to take progress on trust, and after six weeks you should be able to read two answers side by side and see the difference without anyone explaining it to you.

A clear line on assessed work

Tutors teach, question and mark. They do not produce any part of an inquiry project, an Extended Essay or a Theory of Knowledge essay. In a market where completed coursework is openly sold, that line is the thing protecting your child's Diploma.

Scheduling that fits a Dubai week

Sessions sit after the school run and shift for Ramadan, travel and mock weeks without losing the slot. Families on a single-car school run in the villa communities tend to end up on weekend mornings, which works better for timed papers anyway.

Honesty about availability

If no Digital Society specialist is free at the hour you want, we say so and offer the nearest real option rather than putting a generalist in front of your child. A thin week is better than a wrong match in a subject where the subject-specific judgement is what you are buying.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

Which UAE examples can my child actually use in a Digital Society answer?+

The useful ones are systems your child can research from official sources: the federal digital identity used for government services, the national artificial intelligence strategy and the ministerial portfolio created for it in 2017, the Personal Data Protection Law passed as Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021, the delivery and ride-hailing platforms operating in Dubai, and household smart metering. Each one needs the operator, the data involved and the stakeholders verified from the organisation's own page before it goes into the example bank. Local examples are an advantage precisely because examiners rarely see them, but only if the detail is right.

What does a Digital Society marker mean by evidence?+

Something specific, real and current. Naming a company is not evidence. Naming the system that company runs, the data it depends on, who operates it and which stakeholders gain or lose is evidence. The test a tutor applies is whether the claim could be checked by someone reading the answer. A sentence beginning 'studies show' or 'many people believe' has no evidential weight in this subject, however confidently it is written. Students who move from general assertion to named systems usually see the clearest single jump in their marks, often within a month.

My son writes long, fluent answers and still scores in the middle. Why?+

Almost always because the answer is an essay rather than a response to the command term. Fluent writers describe at length where the question asked them to analyse or evaluate, and length cannot buy a band the command term has already capped. The second common cause is a single perspective argued well. A top-band answer carries the opposing case and resolves between the two. Both faults are structural rather than a knowledge gap, which is why they respond quickly to practice on short questions with immediate marking rather than to more content revision.

How many real-world examples does a Diploma student need by the final term?+

Around a dozen, properly annotated, will cover almost anything the papers can ask. Quality beats quantity: each entry should carry the system, who operates it, the data it uses, the concepts it illustrates, the contexts it sits in and one line on the counter-perspective. Thirty half-remembered news stories are worth less than twelve sourced entries the student can deploy under time pressure. Building that document is weekly homework a tutor checks, and it is the one revision asset that transfers across both papers and the Higher Level extension material.

Can a tutor help my child choose the inquiry project research question?+

Yes, and this is where tutoring earns its money. A tutor can test a proposed question against three things: whether there is a specific system at its centre, whether a stakeholder group's experience can be documented, and whether published material exists from more than one kind of source. That assessment takes one session and can save six weeks. What a tutor will not do is choose the topic for your child, supply the sources or write any part of the project. The research and the writing have to be the student's own work.

Does Digital Society count as a Group 3 subject for university applications?+

It is a Group 3 individuals and societies subject, so it satisfies that part of the Diploma's structure. Whether it satisfies a specific degree is a different question, and the answer lives on the admissions page of the actual programme. For media, law, business, politics or information management it is relevant content. For engineering or computer science degrees that name a computing or mathematics prerequisite, it does not replace the subject specified. Read the requirements for the programmes on your child's list during the first Diploma year, not the second.

Is Digital Society accepted for UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

We publish no IB points threshold for equivalency, because no figure has been read on an official Ministry source and an unverified number would be worse than none. The published British-track rules are specific: five accredited IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from those five, plus one A-Level at grade E or two AS-Levels. For the IB route, check moe.gov.ae or your emirate's attestation authority directly. Equivalency is a government process, it is not something a tutoring service performs, and tutoring is not required for it.

How do online sessions work for a subject with this much reading?+

Better than for most subjects, because everything the course studies lives on a screen already. A session opens the platform, dataset, policy document or news coverage being discussed, annotates the student's draft in the same window, and leaves the marked version behind afterwards. Reading is set between sessions with a specific output attached, usually one new example-bank entry or one timed question. Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video; IB Gram does not make home visits in Dubai, and the trade-off is access to a specialist rather than proximity.

What actually happens in the free trial lesson?+

Sixty minutes, one-to-one, online, used as a diagnostic rather than a sample lesson. The tutor works through one question with the student and reads one piece of their recent writing, then says plainly where the marks are going: knowledge, structure or evidence. You get that read in writing afterwards with the first three targets in order. No payment details are taken to book the trial and there is no obligation after it. If the honest conclusion is that school support plus better practice would fix the problem, the write-up says so.

How often should sessions run during the first Diploma year?+

One session a week is the usual pattern, following whatever the school is teaching, with a timed question marked between sessions. Weekly works because the bottleneck in year one is method rather than content, and method needs repetition on fresh material. Twice-weekly is rarely the right answer that early; it tends to replace the student's own practice. The pattern that changes is around the inquiry project and the mock window, where families typically switch to a fixed block of four to six sessions planned backwards from the school's own deadline.

Can the same tutor help with the Theory of Knowledge essay as well?+

Often, yes, and the overlap is genuine: the Theory of Knowledge questions about evidence, technology and knowledge map closely onto Digital Society content, and the essay rewards the same discipline of claim, support and counter-claim. Where one tutor covers both, sessions usually alternate by deadline rather than splitting each hour. The same limit applies to both pieces of work: the tutor discusses, questions and gives feedback on the student's own drafting, and never produces text that goes into an assessed submission.

How can I check that a Dubai tutor is permitted to teach privately?+

Ask directly whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and ask to see it. The permit is issued free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Anyone tutoring privately without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so treat any specific amount quoted at you as unverified.

How does the Ramadan timetable change a weekly Digital Society session?+

School hours shift during Ramadan and most families move the session later in the evening for the month, often after iftar. The slot is held rather than cancelled, because a month's gap in the first Diploma year costs more than a month of shorter sessions. What usually changes is the content: less new material, more consolidation and example-bank work, which carries a lighter cognitive load. Families planning a mock-style timed paper tend to find the week after Ramadan a better fit than the week before it.

What happens if no Digital Society specialist is free at the time we want?+

We say so. The honest options are a different slot with the right tutor, a short wait, or a tutor whose subject background is adjacent with that stated openly before you decide. What we will not do is put a generalist in front of a Digital Society student and let you discover the gap in week four, because the subject-specific judgement is the thing you are paying for. This subject is newer than most, so the pool of people who have taught the current guide through to a submitted inquiry project is genuinely small.

Should my child take Digital Society at Higher Level?+

The decision usually turns on two things: whether the student can sustain the extension material on challenges and interventions across the second year, and what the rest of their Higher Level combination looks like. The extension needs its own answer shape and cannot be absorbed in a revision week, so it suits a student who is already comfortable with evaluation rather than one still fighting the command terms. Talk to the subject teacher before the entry deadline in the autumn term of year two, because late level changes are harder than families expect.

Start with a diagnostic, not a commitment

If your child is losing marks in Digital Society, the useful first step is finding out which kind of mark is going missing. Send the most recent marked piece of work, the level, and the date of the next deadline the school has set. The trial lesson is free, no payment details are taken to book it, and what you get afterwards is a written read on where the marks are and what order to fix things in. Sessions are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video, timed to your Dubai school week. If the answer is that your child does not need a tutor, we will say that too.
