IGCSE Home Tutor in Al Jimi

An IGCSE home tutor in Al Jimi is usually sought with a budget already in mind, and often with an assumption attached: that tutoring in Al Ain costs less than in Dubai. The published figures say something more interesting. IB Gram matches Al Ain families with IGCSE subject specialists teaching one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, and this page sets out what each format genuinely buys per dirham before anything is quoted.

  • Every rate quoted with the provider or survey that published it
  • Three-session diagnostic option offered before any term
  • No travel component in the price, because nobody travels

IB & IGCSE in Al Jimi

Does a smaller city mean a smaller bill?

Al Jimi sits in the north-western part of Al Ain, around the mall and the oasis, within a short drive of Al Muwaiji, Al Khabisi and Hili. It is a settled, family-heavy part of a city that works nothing like Abu Dhabi island or Dubai: shorter journeys, a smaller school market, and a local tutoring economy where almost everybody knows somebody who teaches. Families here reasonably assume that all of this translates into lower prices.

Partly it does, and partly it does the opposite. Group classes and local private arrangements in Al Ain can be cheaper than their equivalents in Dubai, because overheads and expectations are lower. But specialist one-to-one rates are set by a Gulf-wide market rather than a city one, and the local supply of people who know a specific Cambridge or Pearson specification at a specific tier is thin. Scarcity pushes a price up, not down, and in a smaller city scarcity is the dominant force.

What that means practically is that the cheapest route for an Al Ain family is frequently not the local one. A qualified online subject tutor publishes in this market from around AED 150 to 300 an hour; in-home one-to-one visits including travel are advertised from about AED 180 to AED 500, with Bestimate's 2026 rate table putting the common band at AED 180 to 350. The in-home premium exists everywhere, and in a city where the drive is shorter it buys proportionally less.

IB Gram teaches UAE families one-to-one over live video and makes no home visits anywhere in the country; in-home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. For an Al Jimi household that removes the travel component entirely and replaces a small local pool with the full set of people who teach your child's specification. Which is the point: in a smaller city, online delivery is a supply fix before it is a convenience.

The rest of this page is the money, in order. Whether Al Ain is genuinely cheaper, compared properly. What each format delivers per dirham, from a group class to a specialist. What the wrong purchase costs, which is the figure nobody publishes. A budget laid out across Year 10 and Year 11. The free support Al Ain schools already provide and which families under-use. And the regulatory questions it is reasonable to ask before paying anybody.

Two things this page will not do. It will not quote an IB Gram tariff, because the right rate depends on subject scarcity, tier and session length and is quoted after a free trial. And it will not promise a grade, because nobody can honestly do that. What a well-targeted purchase reliably produces is the recovery of marks a student is already capable of earning, and that is measurable against a second marked paper.

At a glance

  • Specialist one-to-one rates are set Gulf-wide, not city by city
  • Local supply in a smaller city is thin, which raises prices rather than lowering them
  • Group and centre options in Al Ain genuinely can be cheaper
  • The in-home premium is largely travel, and online delivery removes it
  • Teaching is online one-to-one; no home visits anywhere in the UAE
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

What a family should spend depends on the stage far more than on the child. These three stages cover nearly every IGCSE enquiry from Al Ain, with the cost logic attached to each.

Y9Ages 13-14 · Year 9

Year 9: before the specification starts

The cheapest effective support in the entire pipeline. Algebraic fluency, writing stamina and the habit of setting out full working are built here or paid for later at several times the price. Fortnightly across two terms is normally enough, and the gains compound through the two IGCSE years rather than evaporating after a test.

In Al Ain, Year 9 is also where set placement is decided, and placement feeds the tier recommendation later. Students arriving from a different curriculum are often placed low for presentation reasons rather than content reasons, which is cheap to correct now and expensive to correct after an entry has been submitted.

Y10Ages 14-15 · Year 10

Year 10: content delivery

Most of the specification is taught in this year. Spending here buys consolidation: closing coverage gaps left by an absence, a school move or a change of teacher. It also buys the marked evidence a family needs if they want to argue for a different tier, which is a conversation that has to happen before entries are submitted.

Al Ain schools vary in how firmly the end-of-Year-10 internal examination fixes the tier. Some revisit it in the autumn of Year 11 and some do not. Asking which policy applies, before that examination rather than after it, costs nothing and changes what a family should buy.

Y11Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11: the examination year

The most expensive year to need help in and the year when most families first buy any. Teaching time ends at study leave and the work narrows to recovering marks the student can already earn: method lines, command terms, units, timing and question order. Narrow, diagnosable, and genuinely fast-moving when the diagnosis comes from marked work.

Both main boards run a November series as well as the summer one, and UAE candidates can use it. For a student on a capped tier or with substantial missed teaching, raising the November route with the examinations officer early is often worth more than any amount of spring tutoring.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Rates move with scarcity rather than with difficulty, and scarcity varies by subject. Each entry below notes where supply is thin locally, because that is what actually changes a price.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 · Edexcel 4MA1

The best-supplied subject in this market, so rates sit at the lower end of every tier. Plenty of choice also means plenty of generalists, and the thing worth paying for is somebody working to your child's exact code and tier rather than to mathematics broadly.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 · Edexcel 4PH1

Well supplied at the qualified level, thinner at specialist level, and thinnest of all for the practical-skills paper. Writing a method precisely enough for a stranger to repeat it is the marked skill, and few generalists teach it deliberately.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 · Edexcel 4CH1

Moles calculations, ionic equations and organic pathways decide the upper grades. The common loss is a correct calculation presented without units or significant figures, which is a two-mark habit repeated across a paper.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 · Edexcel 4BI1

Heaviest content load and the subject where command terms matter most. Reasonably supplied locally, and one of the cheaper subjects in which to produce a visible improvement because the fixes are structural rather than conceptual.

English Language

First Language 0500 / 0990

Directed writing and composition carry the paper. Good value per session, because the improvements come from planning and criteria awareness rather than from content, and both transfer to every other written subject.

English as a Second Language

0510 / 0511

A separate qualification from First Language English with different recognition later. Worth confirming which one is on the entry before buying any practice material, because the mark schemes differ substantially.

Business Studies and Economics

Cambridge 0450 / 0455

Mid-market rates and a clear mechanism: application to the case insert and evaluation rather than definitions. A short block on argument structure often moves a grade in a single term.

Computer Science

Cambridge 0478

Thin supply locally at specialist level. Pseudocode, trace tables and writing code by hand on paper are the marked skills, and the last of those is almost never practised without a tutor insisting on it.

Additional Mathematics

Extension alongside IGCSE

Scarce locally and priced accordingly. Worth taking only where the main specification is already secure, and worth buying help for only in the autumn rather than the spring of Year 11.

Arabic and Islamic Education

First and additional language streams

Required alongside the international curriculum under the federal position, taught in separate streams for Arab and non-Arab students, and excluded from the five subjects the Ministry counts for British-track equivalency.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four formats are genuinely available to a family in Al Jimi, and they differ more in what they deliver than in what they cost. The ordering below is by price, lowest first.

Group class at a local centre

The cheapest structured option in the city, with a published timetable and a per-student rate well below one-to-one. Buys broad revision coverage and a routine. Does not buy a diagnosis of your child's specific error pattern, because a class cannot teach to one student's marked paper.

  • Lowest cost per hour of any supervised option
  • Fixed timetable, which suits a family needing routine
  • Plus a round trip at exactly the busiest hour
  • Cannot target one student's individual mark losses

Three-session diagnostic block

The smallest useful one-to-one purchase. One session reading a marked paper and naming the error types, two sessions fixing the largest one, finishing with an unaided attempt at the same question type. A few hundred dirhams at published qualified rates rather than a few thousand.

  • Fixed at three sessions with an agreed end point
  • Scoped from marked work, not from a conversation
  • Produces a written diagnosis you keep regardless
  • Repeatable for a second topic without a term commitment

Weekly one-to-one with an end date

Six to eight sessions where the evidence genuinely points at sustained work: a rebuilt topic, a stretch of specification missed, or technique across a whole paper. Reviewed at the midpoint against a second marked paper, with stopping as a permitted outcome.

  • Session count and finish date agreed in writing
  • Short homework set and marked at the next session
  • Midpoint comparison of two papers by topic
  • Scoped to end before study leave begins

In-home private arrangement

Available in this market from other providers at published rates of roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour including travel. Buys a person in the room, which suits some younger students. IB Gram does not offer this anywhere in the UAE, and a family choosing it should ask directly about the MoHRE permit.

  • Published market band includes the journey
  • Choice limited to whoever will travel at your hour
  • Ask whether the tutor holds the free MoHRE permit
  • Not a service IB Gram provides in this country

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Al Jimi

The tutors below teach a named IGCSE specification rather than a subject in general. In a smaller city that distinction decides the economics: a specialist in your child's exact code is rarely within driving distance, and is readily available on a screen.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Jimi

01

What an IGCSE home tutor in Al Jimi actually costs

  • Entry-level online: roughly AED 33-65, published by Tutopiya and EdFlik
  • Qualified online subject tutor: AED 150-300, Unitors from 150
  • Specialist IB or IGCSE: AED 200-450+, TutorChase around 270
  • In-home including travel: AED 180-500, Bestimate band 180-350

An IGCSE home tutor in Al Jimi, as the phrase is normally used, means one-to-one teaching for one child on the specification that child is entered for. IB Gram provides that over live video to Al Ain families and makes no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tuition is a service we run only in India. The question this page exists to answer is not whether that is convenient but what it costs relative to the alternatives, with real figures rather than impressions.

The published market, read in October 2026, gives four reference points. Entry-level online sessions are advertised from roughly AED 33 to 65 an hour, with Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. Qualified online subject tutors publish higher, with Unitors listing IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Specialist IGCSE and IB tutors are quoted from AED 200 to AED 450 and above, TutorChase at around AED 270. In-home visits including travel run from about AED 180 to AED 500, Bestimate placing the common band at AED 180 to 350.

Those are other providers' figures, not ours, and each one belongs to the name beside it. IB Gram does not publish a tariff on these pages because the right number depends on the subject's scarcity, the tier and the session length, and it is quoted after a free trial lesson so that both sides know what is being bought. What matters more than any single figure is matching the tier of purchase to the problem, which the next sections set out.

One Al Ain-specific point before the detail. Because journeys in this city are short, families here sometimes assume in-home tutoring should be cheap. The rate is driven less by distance than by the tutor's willingness to spend an evening travelling at all, and by how few people locally teach a given specification. Both of those push upwards in a smaller city.

02

Is tutoring genuinely cheaper in Al Ain than in Dubai?

The assumption is widespread and it is half right. Where a service depends on local overheads and local expectations, Al Ain is cheaper: a tuition centre's group class, a neighbour's informal arrangement, a university student's homework supervision. Those are priced against a smaller local economy and they reflect it.

Where a service depends on scarce expertise, Al Ain is not cheaper, and may be dearer. A specialist who knows Cambridge 0625 Paper 6 at the level that moves a grade is scarce in Abu Dhabi, scarcer in Al Ain, and about equally available on a screen everywhere. Once the search moves online, the price is set by a Gulf-wide market in which location has no bearing. A family in Al Jimi pays the same specialist rate as a family in Dubai Marina, and the Dubai family pays more for the in-home alternative.

The second half of the answer concerns waiting time rather than price. In a smaller city the pool prepared to travel to a particular district at a particular hour is small enough that the real cost of insisting on a local in-home tutor is often measured in weeks rather than dirhams. For a Year 11 student in the spring, a three-week wait is more expensive than any hourly difference.

The comparison below puts the two cities side by side by category. The pattern is consistent: the cheap options are genuinely cheaper locally, the expert options are priced nationally, and the gap between those two facts is where most of the confusion in this market sits.

In-home one-to-one visitTravel time and willingnessNo; shorter drives buy proportionally lessThe premium is for presence, not for distance
03

What each format buys per dirham

The sensible way to choose between formats is to ask what each one can diagnose, because diagnosis is what converts spending into marks. A format that cannot look at your child's own marked paper cannot find the error pattern, and without the error pattern the sessions are coverage rather than correction.

A group class covers content efficiently and cheaply. It is a reasonable purchase for a student who has fallen behind across a subject and needs the whole thing retold with structure. It cannot tell you that your child loses two marks a question to missing units, because the class is not marking your child's script. A one-to-one session can, and in a subject assessed entirely by written papers that difference is where most of the available improvement sits.

At the other end, premium examiner-led provision advertised as high as AED 650 an hour buys depth in a narrow specialism. For a student at the top of a Higher or Extended tier chasing the last grade, that can be worth it. For a student losing marks to timing and command terms, it is paying a specialist rate to fix a training problem, and a qualified tutor at a third of the price will do it as well.

The table below sets out the comparison in the terms families actually care about. The final column is the one to read first: what the format cannot do, however many hours of it you buy.

04

The cost of the wrong purchase

  • A misaimed term costs the fee and the term, which no refund returns
  • Confirm the syllabus code before buying practice material or sessions
  • Insist on marked homework rather than explained homework
  • Agree the stopping condition before the first session

No provider publishes this figure, so it is worth stating plainly. The most expensive thing a family in Al Jimi can buy is not the premium hourly rate; it is a term of the wrong thing. At published qualified rates a term of weekly sessions is a four-figure sum in dirhams, and if it was aimed at the wrong problem it produces nothing visible on a paper and the term is gone as well.

Three versions of this recur. A family buys general weekly support because a report card was disappointing, when the marked paper pointed at one topic and three sessions. A family buys practice material and sessions without confirming the syllabus code, so a Cambridge candidate drills Pearson-style questions for a term, or a 0580 candidate works through 0607 papers. And a family buys explanation when the student needed their own work marked, which is pleasant and changes nothing.

Each has a free counter. Ask for the smallest option before the largest. Get the code and tier in writing from the examinations officer. And insist that homework is marked and that three lost answers are rewritten in full after every paper, which is the step where the learning actually happens and the step almost everyone skips.

The fourth version is continuing a block that is not working, because stopping feels like giving up on the child. The remedy is to agree the stopping condition before the first session: a second timed paper at the midpoint, marked the same way, compared by topic. If nothing has moved in four weeks, the plan or the match is wrong, and continuing is paying for hope.

05

Budgeting a Year 10 to Year 11 run

Families almost never plan tutoring across both IGCSE years, which is why the total arrives as a shock in the spring of Year 11. Writing it out in advance changes the distribution of spending, and the distribution matters more than the total.

The common pattern is to spend nothing in Year 10 and a great deal between the mock and study leave in Year 11. That is the most expensive possible ordering: the late window is when rates are highest in practice, availability is tightest, and what tutoring can achieve is narrowest. Moving part of the same budget into Year 10, when content is still being taught and the tier is still open, buys considerably more for the same money.

Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions give a frame: AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist examination-year support. Monthly packages advertised in this market have included AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. Use those bands to sketch your own version rather than treating any single figure as a price.

The table below shows the shape we would recommend to a family in Al Jimi with a child entering Year 10. Note that the largest single line is not in the examination term; it is the consolidation work a year earlier, and that is deliberate.

What Al Ain schools already provide free

  • The marked script, and the teacher's top three priority topics
  • Any departmental revision clinic, which is often under-attended
  • Code, tier and study-leave date in writing from the examinations officer
  • The boards' own published specifications and official timetables

Before anybody is paid, there is a set of free resources that families in this city consistently under-use, partly because nobody tells them it exists. Working through it sometimes removes the need to buy anything, and always makes the eventual purchase smaller and better aimed.

Start with the marked script. Ask the subject teacher for it rather than for the grade, and ask which three topics they would prioritise if they had your child for an extra hour a week. Teachers answer that question well and are rarely asked it. Then ask whether the department runs a revision clinic or a lunchtime session, because many schools in this emirate do and attendance is often low purely through lack of awareness.

Then the examinations officer, for three facts in writing: the syllabus code, the tier, and the study-leave date. Those three determine what practice material is correct, what grade is available, and how many weeks a block can usefully run for. All free, and all of it is material any competent tutor would ask for anyway.

Then the boards themselves. Cambridge and Pearson publish specification documents, support material and the official timetables on their own sites, including the zone-specific Cambridge timetable that a centre must use. We link those rather than reproducing them, because the material belongs to the boards and copying it is a copyright problem. A provider offering a download library of mark schemes is advertising that problem rather than a service.

07

Permits, approvals and the claims to refuse

  • The MoHRE permit is free for two years, so there is no excuse not to hold it
  • ADEK bars teachers from paid tutoring of their own enrolled students
  • Refuse guarantees, claimed approvals and unevidenced ratings
  • The student writes every word of any submitted coursework

Paying for tutoring in this country raises a regulatory question, and a conspicuously low rate sometimes means it has not been answered. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and since no fine schedule is published, any page quoting an amount has invented it.

Because the permit costs nothing, there is no good reason for an independent tutor not to hold one, and it is entirely reasonable to ask. Al Ain sits with Abu Dhabi's Department of Education and Knowledge for school regulation, and ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff bar teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school. In a city this size, where a family and a teacher may well be neighbours, that rule is worth knowing.

There are also claims that should end a conversation. A guarantee of a grade, a points total or a university place. Any claimed approval, accreditation or licence from ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, the Ministry of Education or an examination board. A school described as a partner or client. A satisfaction figure or star rating with no number, date or method behind it. And any offer to write, finish or complete assessed coursework, which is malpractice and places the risk on the student.

IB Gram makes none of those claims. We hold no regulator or board approval and say so plainly. We name no school as a partner. We publish no ratings, because we cannot evidence one. And a tutor here teaches the criteria, questions the reasoning and gives feedback on a draft the student wrote, rather than producing any part of the work.

Where we tutor

Al Jimi and the districts around it

Al Ain's geography compresses the journeys but not the scheduling problem. These are the districts in the conversation, with what each means for the cost and timing of a session.

Al Jimi

Settled residential streets around the mall and the oasis, with several schools inside a short drive. Short commutes mean genuinely early session slots are possible, which is a real advantage over the big-city neighbourhoods.

Al Muwaiji

Immediately west and functionally part of the same catchment. Families frequently share lifts between the two districts, which makes a fixed weekly slot easier to protect than an arrangement depending on one car.

Al Khabisi

A short hop east, with its own cluster of schools. Relevant to Al Jimi families who kept a school place after moving house, which in Al Ain is common.

Hili

North of Al Jimi, near the archaeological park. Short runs and early arrivals, so these households have the widest choice of session time in the city.

Al Towayya and Asharej

East towards the hospital and university districts. A slightly longer run, and the direction many families travel for sixth-form and university access later.

Al Maqam and Zakher

South of the city centre, with longer journeys and a thinner local tutoring market. Online delivery closes a bigger gap here than almost anywhere else in the emirate.

Falaj Hazza and Al Mutaredh

Central districts with reasonable school access. The commute is rarely the obstacle for these families; the obstacle is finding a specialist in a specific subject locally at all.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Jimi

Al Ain schools entering IGCSE specifications

A compact market by UAE standards, with British, Indian and bilingual curricula close together. The practical point for an IGCSE family is that the board varies by school, so confirm the code per child rather than assuming a city-wide pattern.

  • Our Own English High School Al Ain

Schools families travel across the city for

Where households move when a particular sixth form or curriculum matters more than the journey. In a city this size the journey is rarely the binding constraint, which makes the subject offer the thing worth checking.

  • Al Ain Juniors School
  • Emirates National School Al Ain
  • Al Ain Academy
  • Brighton College Al Ain

Schools are named here as context for the Al Ain education landscape. No affiliation, endorsement or partnership is implied, and the students we support attend many schools beyond those listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the budget and the history

Subject, year group, and what has already been tried and at what cost. If a previous arrangement did not work, say why. That history rules out repeating a purchase that has already failed, which is the cheapest saving available in the whole process.

  2. 02

Send marked work plus the code and tier

Free to obtain and decisive. A marked script tells us whether the problem is content or technique; the code and tier tell us which papers and which ceiling. Without those, any recommendation about what to spend is guesswork.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson, location disclosed first

You are told where the tutor is based and what they specialise in before the lesson rather than after. The trial runs on your child's own questions so the diagnosis is visible within the hour. A wrong match is replaced, not defended.

  4. 04

    Buy the cheapest adequate option

Where the evidence points at one topic, we recommend three sessions. Where it points at sustained work, we say so and scope it with a finish date. The recommendation follows the marked paper, not the size of the budget mentioned.

  5. 05

Midpoint review with a stop option

A second timed paper, marked the same way, compared with the first by topic. Three outcomes are available and ending the block is one of them. A plan without a stopping condition is a subscription with a tutor attached.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Prices with sources attached

Every dirham band on this page names the provider or rate survey that published it and the month it was read. Three of the strongest pages competing for this search publish no price at all, and two quote dollars at families who pay in dirhams.

Smaller purchases offered first

A three-session diagnostic block is a real option here and is recommended whenever the evidence supports it. A provider that only sells terms has an incentive to find term-sized problems in every script it reads.

A city-size supply problem solved

The scarce thing in Al Ain is not willingness to teach but specialism in a particular code and tier. Online delivery replaces a small local pool with everyone who teaches that specification, at a Gulf-wide rate rather than a scarcity premium.

No travel in the price

The in-home premium is mostly the journey. We make no visits anywhere in the UAE, so there is nothing to charge for, and nobody is excluded because a district is inconvenient at five in the afternoon.

Free support pointed out, not hidden

The marked script, the teacher's priorities, the school's revision clinic and the boards' own published material come first. A family that uses all of it sometimes needs nothing further, and we would rather say so than sell a term.

No claims we cannot evidence

No regulator or board approval, no partner schools, no ratings, no statistics without number and method, and no grade guarantees. Each of those appears in this search result, and each transfers risk from the provider to the family.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Jimi: your questions answered

Is private tutoring cheaper in Al Ain than in Dubai or Abu Dhabi?+

Partly. Group classes, centre packages and informal local arrangements are usually cheaper here, because they are priced against a smaller local economy. Specialist one-to-one rates are not, because they are set by a Gulf-wide online market and because local supply of a given specification is thinner. Published qualified online rates run roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour wherever you live. What is genuinely different in Al Ain is waiting time for a local in-home specialist, which can cost weeks rather than dirhams.

What would an in-home tutor charge to come to Al Jimi?+

Published market figures for in-home one-to-one visits, travel included, run from about AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, with Bestimate's 2026 rate table putting the common band at AED 180 to 350 and some home tutors quoted from AED 200 to 500. Those are other providers' rates. IB Gram makes no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. If you do choose a visiting tutor locally, ask directly whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition permit, which costs nothing to obtain.

What is the least we can spend and still find out what is wrong?+

Three sessions. One reading a marked paper and naming the recurring error types, two fixing the largest one, finishing with your child attempting the same question type unaided. At published qualified rates of roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour that is a few hundred dirhams, and you keep the written diagnosis whatever you decide next. Most families are quoted a term instead, which is worth noticing: ask for the smallest option and see whether it is offered.

Is a group class at an Al Ain centre good value for IGCSE revision?+

For a specific purpose, yes. A class retells a subject with structure at the lowest cost per hour of any supervised option, which suits a student who has fallen behind across the whole specification. What it cannot do is find your child's individual mark losses, because nobody in the room is marking your child's script against the published scheme. If the problem is two marks a question going missing on units and method, a class will not touch it however many you attend.

Why does a specialist in my child's subject cost more here than a local tutor?+

Scarcity rather than distance. A tutor who works to Cambridge 0625 Paper 6 or Edexcel 4CH1 at mark-scheme level is uncommon anywhere in the Gulf and uncommon locally, and the rate reflects how few people can do it. A local generalist is cheaper because the skill is more widely held. The decision should follow the marked script: a content gap can be closed by a good generalist, while a mark-scheme loss needs somebody with the scheme in front of them.

Does IB Gram send an IGCSE tutor to a house in Al Jimi?+

No. We make no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is an India-only service for us. Teaching for Al Ain families is one-to-one over live video at a fixed slot in Gulf Standard Time, with a shared screen for working through paper questions. In a city with a thin local supply of specification specialists, that is a supply fix rather than a convenience: your child is taught by somebody who knows their exact code and tier.

When in the two IGCSE years is money best spent?+

Earlier than families spend it. The common pattern is nothing in Year 10 and a great deal between the mock and study leave in Year 11, which is the most expensive possible ordering because availability is tightest and what tutoring can achieve is narrowest then. Moving part of the same budget into Year 10, while content is still being taught and the tier decision is still open, buys considerably more. The largest single line in a sensible plan sits a year before the papers.

How much does it cost us if nobody confirmed the syllabus code?+

A term, usually. A Cambridge candidate drilling Pearson-style questions, or a 0580 candidate working through 0607 papers, practises diligently and builds the wrong instincts, and nobody notices until the real paper looks unfamiliar. The fix is free: email the examinations officer and ask in writing for the code and tier on each entry. It is the single highest-value ten minutes available to a parent and it costs nothing at all.

Is a monthly tutoring package in Al Ain better value than paying per session?+

Only buy a package where marked work has already been read and the length is justified by it, and only where you can stop. Monthly packages advertised in this market have included AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. The question to ask about any of them is what happens at the midpoint if the evidence says stop. If the answer is nothing, the discount is being paid for with your ability to change course.

What free help should an Al Ain family use before paying anyone?+

Four things. The marked script rather than the grade sheet. The subject teacher's answer to which three topics they would prioritise, a question they are rarely asked and answer well. Any departmental revision clinic the school runs, which is often under-attended through sheer lack of awareness. And the code, tier and study-leave date in writing from the examinations officer. Then the boards' own published specifications and official timetables, which we link rather than copy.

Can a tutor in Al Ain help with IGCSE coursework in subjects that have it?+

Within a firm boundary. A tutor teaches the skill the component assesses, explains the published criteria and their command words, questions the student about their own reasoning, and gives feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor does not write the work, does not rewrite sentences and does not supply material for submission. We state that before any coursework support begins, because crossing the line creates a malpractice problem for the student rather than for the tutor.

Does a private tutor working in Al Ain need a permit, and can I ask to see it?+

Yes to both. The private tuition work permit came in under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Because it costs nothing, there is no good reason for an independent tutor not to hold one. Tutoring without it carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

Which authority regulates my child's school in Al Jimi?+

Al Ain sits within the emirate of Abu Dhabi, so private schools here are regulated by the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises licensing and accreditation and publishes inspection outcomes. Elsewhere in the country the map differs: Dubai has KHDA, Sharjah has SPEA, Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education. No tutoring provider, including us, holds approval from any of them.

After six weeks, what should show that the money was well spent?+

A second timed paper, marked against the published scheme and compared with the first by topic, showing movement in the specific areas the diagnosis named. Not a higher overall mark alone, which can move for reasons unrelated to the teaching. You should also hear your child name their own weakest topic without prompting, which is a reliable sign that the work has become theirs. If neither has happened, the plan or the match is wrong and should change rather than continue.

Ask for the smallest option, with the evidence in front of you

Send the subject, the year group, a marked paper and the syllabus code and tier. We will tell you which tier of help the evidence calls for, say where the tutor is based, and arrange a free trial lesson on your child's own questions. Where three sessions will fix it, that is the recommendation you will get. Teaching runs one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time for families across Al Jimi, Al Muwaiji, Hili and the rest of Al Ain.
