IGCSE Home Tutor in Al Yahar

An IGCSE home tutor in Al Yahar has to work inside a short evening. The district sits well out from Al Ain's main school cluster, so by the time a Year 11 student is home there is often one usable hour rather than two, and most of a past paper will not fit inside it. This page is built around that: what each session length can actually achieve, and how to split paper practice so it still works. Lessons are one-to-one over live video.

  • Session plans sized to 45, 60 and 90 minutes, not to a generic hour
  • Live one-to-one video; IB Gram runs no home visits anywhere in the UAE

IB & IGCSE in Al Yahar

A short evening is a planning problem, not an excuse

Al Yahar lies on the outlying western side of Al Ain, agricultural in character and some distance from the private schools most of its students attend. The school run is long in both directions, and the return leg does not get quicker in the late afternoon. For a Year 11 student that produces a short, late evening, and a tutoring plan designed for a family living beside the school will not survive a term here.

The useful response is not to wish for more time but to match the work to the time available. A forty-five minute session can do several things properly: a calculation drill, a command-term exercise, marking a section the student completed earlier, rehearsing a speaking component. It cannot do a full past paper, and a tutor who tries will produce an hour of partial work and a student who feels behind.

This matters more at IGCSE than at any other stage, because IGCSE improvement is largely a function of timed practice. Papers are long, and Year 11 students need to experience them whole. From Al Yahar the only places a whole paper fits are a weekend morning and a school holiday, which means those slots have to be used for that purpose and not frittered on review.

There is a second local fact. Al Ain's private-school set is considerably smaller than Abu Dhabi island's, which makes some IGCSE subjects thin across the whole city, notably Additional Mathematics, Computer Science, ICT and second modern languages. An outlying address compounds that for any in-home arrangement, since the willing pool shrinks with every extra kilometre of unpaid driving.

Al Yahar is in Al Ain, part of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, so the regulator is ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. ADEK's own listing is where to confirm which curriculum a school is licensed to deliver, which is a sensible first check given that the schools serving this area use both of the main exam boards.

IB Gram teaches Al Yahar students one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is a service we run only in India. For a family at the edge of the city the practical benefit is specific: the session starts when the student walks in, it can be forty-five minutes rather than a notional hour, and it can move when the week moves.

None of what follows depends on hiring us. The session-length table, the paper-splitting routine and the post-mock analysis method all work on any tutor a family here finds, and the questions at the end work on anyone. The format we sell is online; the planning is simply what this journey requires.

At a glance

  • Match the task to the session length rather than the reverse
  • Full timed papers belong on a weekend morning or in a holiday
  • A 45-minute weeknight session is useful if it is given the right job
  • Additional Maths, Computer Science, ICT and second languages are thin citywide
  • The schools serving Al Yahar use both Cambridge and Pearson, so confirm the board

Cambridge IGCSE

Four-digit syllabus codes with many subjects tiered into Core and Extended and a grade ceiling on Core. Sciences carry a separate practical component, either a laboratory test paper or an alternative-to-practical written paper, and the school chooses which. The qualification runs in a June series and a November series, with Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October.

The detail that catches UAE families, and that matters more to an outlying family who cannot easily pop into school, is zoning. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong timetable was used. Get the zone from the exams officer in writing early in Year 11.

PearsonAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Codes run 4MA1, 4PH1, 4CH1, 4BI1 and 4EA1. Mathematics A tiers into Foundation and Higher; the international sciences are untiered and assess practical skills inside the written papers rather than in a separate practical exam. Modular availability in some subjects changes when a result can be banked and when a resit is possible.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams run in May/June and November each year. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and revises them, so plan from the live official timetable rather than a restated date.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

AS and A Level progression

The tier and grade a student finishes IGCSE with decides which AS subjects stay open. Core tier generally closes AS Mathematics and the separate sciences, and the decision is taken in Year 10 but felt in Year 12. For a student whose week is already short, deciding this on evidence rather than on hope saves an expensive recovery later.

For UAE university entry the Ministry of Education equivalency rule on the British track asks for five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are excluded from the five. Five comfortable passes therefore matter more than two outstanding ones alongside three marginal results.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

What a session can achieve depends on the subject as much as on the clock, because some IGCSE work splits neatly into short blocks and some does not. Each entry says which.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended; Pearson 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

Splits well. Topic drills, method-line discipline and single question sections all fit a short weeknight. Full papers do not, so they belong on the weekend. The most requested subject from this area and the one where short sessions work best.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606

Splits poorly. Calculus and series need sustained attention, so this subject wants a longer block. It is also scarce across Al Ain because few schools offer it, which makes an early booking and a weekend slot the realistic combination.

Physics

Cambridge 0625; Pearson 4PH1

Splits very well. Uncertainty treatment, significant figures, unit handling and reading results tables are all short, high-yield drills. The practical component also depends on which board, so confirm whether a practical test or an alternative paper applies.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620; Pearson 4CH1

Splits well for calculations and badly for organic chemistry. Moles arithmetic is ideal short-session material; reaction pathways want a longer run. Plan the weeknights for the first and the weekend for the second.

Biology

Cambridge 0610; Pearson 4BI1

Splits well. Command-term work and short structured-question practice suit a forty-five minute slot, and the gains transfer across the whole paper. Well supplied online, so the slot can be chosen to suit the journey.

Co-ordinated and Combined Science

Cambridge 0654 and 0653

Needs care rather than length. The content map differs from the separate sciences, so the risk is a tutor teaching off-specification material competently. Confirm the code first; after that, it splits much like the separate sciences.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 first language, 0510/0511 second language; Pearson 4EA1

Splits moderately. Directed-writing technique and reading-response structure fit short sessions; full timed compositions need a longer block. Check first against second language before anything else, because the mark schemes differ.

Economics and Business

Cambridge 0455 and 0450; Pearson 4EC1 and 4BS1

Splits well. Definitions, diagram accuracy and short data-response practice are ideal weeknight work, and the usual failure of describing rather than analysing is structural, so a correction transfers across the paper.

Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge 0478 and 0417

Pseudocode and trace tables split well; ICT practical tasks do not, because the software work needs a continuous run. Both are scarce in Al Ain, so expect a wait and consider a weekend slot from the start.

Geography and History

Cambridge 0460 and 0470

Splits well for source skills and badly for full essays. Source technique and case-study recall suit short sessions; extended answers under timed conditions need the weekend. Both subjects improve quickly once structure is taught.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three session shapes, defined by length rather than by subject. The point of separating them is that each has jobs it does well and jobs it cannot do at all.

Forty-five minute weeknight slot

Short, focused and fully usable after a long journey. One job per session: a calculation drill, a command-term exercise, marking a section the student completed earlier, or rehearsing a speaking component. Priced and planned as a real session rather than as a shortened one.

  • One named task, agreed before the session starts
  • No new Extended-tier content late in the course
  • Practice set between sessions is a single question section
  • Works for Maths, Physics, Biology, Economics and source skills

Ninety-minute weekend morning

The slot that carries the plan from Al Yahar. Long enough for a full paper section under timed conditions plus marking in the same sitting, which is the loop that actually moves IGCSE grades. Scheduled first in the week and defended against everything else.

  • Timed practice followed immediately by marking and correction
  • Suits Additional Mathematics, organic chemistry and full essays
  • Fresh student, unhurried pace, no journey beforehand
  • One subject per weekend rather than two halves

Holiday block

Six to twelve sessions compressed into a school break, when the journey disappears and mornings become available daily. The only way an outlying family can accumulate hours quickly, and the right place for content repair rather than exam technique.

  • Daily mornings, impossible during term from this area
  • Content repair, which needs consecutive days to consolidate
  • Full papers every other day, with marking in between
  • Defined start and end, so the cost is one known figure

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Yahar

01

What each session length can actually achieve

This is the table nobody publishes and the one an Al Yahar family needs most. Tutoring is sold in notional hours, but the work an IGCSE student needs comes in different sizes, and matching them is the difference between a productive short session and a frustrating one. The rows below are ordered by length rather than by subject.

The honest claim is that a forty-five minute session is genuinely useful, provided it is given one job. Marking a section the student completed earlier in the week, drilling a calculation type, running command-term practice or rehearsing a speaking component all fit and all move marks. Attempting a full paper does not, and a tutor who starts one at half past seven has set the student up to fail at it.

The reverse error is equally common. A ninety-minute weekend slot spent on general review wastes the only block in the week where timed practice is possible. Families should guard that slot for whole papers and for the subjects that do not split, which is where the biggest gains live for a Year 11 student.

Use the final column as a filter when agreeing a plan. If a proposed session's task does not match its length, say so. A good tutor will adjust immediately, because they already know this; a tutor who insists on the same lesson regardless of the clock has one lesson.

One more note on the shortest row. Thirty minutes is listed because it exists and occasionally earns its place, usually as maintenance between longer sessions in a subject that has been fixed. It is not a format to build a plan on, and a provider offering a term of half-hours is selling convenience rather than progress.

02

Splitting a past paper when the evening is short

Year 11 improvement comes mostly from timed practice, and a long paper does not fit a short evening. The answer is not to skip timed work but to split it deliberately, and the splits that work are not arbitrary. The table sets out how to divide practice so the timing discipline survives the division.

The principle is that timing must be preserved inside each fragment. A student who does half a paper in half the allotted time has practised timing correctly. A student who does half a paper slowly because there is no clock has practised something else entirely, and will still run out of time in the real thing. Give each fragment its proportional minutes and hold to them.

The second principle is that marking is part of the practice, not an administrative afterthought. A section attempted and never marked teaches nothing. If a session is short, it is better to attempt a smaller fragment and mark it inside the session than to attempt more and mark none, which is the most common waste in short-session tutoring.

For an Al Yahar family the workable rhythm is this: the student attempts a fragment independently on a weeknight with a timer, the next session marks and corrects it, and the weekend morning is used for a whole section or paper under proper conditions. That produces real timed practice from a week that appears not to have room for any.

A final caution about who times the practice. Younger Year 10 students are poor at timing themselves honestly, so the first few fragments should be timed in session with the tutor watching the clock. Once a student has felt what the right pace is, they can be trusted to run fragments alone, and that handover is itself part of what the tutoring is for.

03

Mock season, and the fortnight that decides everything

  • Sort every lost mark into blanks, method, timing or phrasing
  • Blanks mean content, which needs a holiday block or a term
  • Method and phrasing mean technique, which needs a few hours
  • Timing failures need split-paper practice with a clock
  • Book the post-mock analysis session before the mocks begin

Mocks are the only full-length diagnostic most IGCSE students get before the real series, and their value is almost entirely in what happens afterwards. For an Al Yahar family with limited weekly capacity, the fortnight after mocks is the highest-return tutoring purchase of the year, because it is the only point at which the whole plan can be redirected on evidence.

The analysis itself is mechanical and can be done in one long session. Sort every lost mark into one of four kinds: blank questions, method errors, timing failures and mark-scheme phrasing. Blanks mean content was never learnt and need a term or a holiday block. Method errors and phrasing mean technique and need hours. Timing failures mean practice under the clock, which is the split-paper routine above.

What families do instead is react to the grade. A grade of 5 produces either relief or panic, neither of which contains information. The same grade can come from a student who left a third of the paper blank and one who attempted everything and lost marks on phrasing, and those two students need entirely different plans and different amounts of money spent on them.

Book the post-mock session before mocks happen, and book it long. Ninety minutes on a weekend morning with the scripts on the table is worth more than four weeknight hours afterwards spent guessing. This is the single clearest piece of scheduling advice on the page and it costs nothing extra to follow.

04

Online one-to-one against a visiting tutor in Al Yahar

The search phrase says home tutor, so the comparison belongs here rather than in a footnote. IB Gram provides no home visits anywhere in the UAE, and the table's final row says so plainly rather than reframing the question.

The row that decides it for an outlying family is session length. A visiting tutor cannot sensibly travel a long distance for forty-five minutes, so in practice they sell a full hour or ninety minutes and arrive later to make the journey worthwhile. That removes exactly the option an Al Yahar weeknight needs, which is a short, early, focused session.

The second is flexibility of length week to week. Some weeks a student needs forty-five minutes of marking and some weeks they need ninety minutes of timed practice, and an arrangement pinned to a driving route cannot vary. Online delivery can, which turns the session length into a planning tool rather than a fixed cost.

Cost appears in the table and is not the deciding factor. The UAE in-home band runs AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel included, against AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified online subject tutor; the premium pays for the car and the unpaid driving, which from Al Yahar is substantial. What it does not buy is a wider choice of tutor or a shorter session when that is what the evening allows.

The caveat belongs here as well. Some students work far better with an adult physically beside them, and for those families the premium and the inflexible length may be worth accepting. The table argues about session length and reliability rather than about every child, and that judgement is the parent's to make.

Zones, deadlines and the series UAE candidates sit

One correction first, because acting on it would make a family miss an entry. Cambridge International's February/March series is offered to India only. UAE candidates sit the June series and the November series. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. A page quoting a UAE family a February/March entry deadline has published another country's calendar.

The zoning point matters particularly for an outlying family who cannot easily call into school. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. Ask the exams officer for the zone in writing in the first term of Year 11 and keep it.

Pearson's documented pattern is useful for anyone weighing a resit. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. So a November entry historically means a January result, which matters if a sixth-form or university deadline falls between.

The forward-looking rule is to name a series by its month and check the live official timetable, because Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and revises them. No future date on this page carries a year for that reason, and any page that gives you one should be verified against the board before you build a revision plan on it.

06

ADEK, permits and what a parent can check

Al Yahar is in Al Ain, part of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, so the regulator is ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. ADEK is named by none of the competitor pages reviewed for this project, which is a reasonable signal about how locally grounded a tutoring site is.

Private tutoring in the UAE runs on a permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students, applied for through MoHRE's own private tutor licensing service with a stated two-working-day completion.

One restriction applies specifically because of the emirate. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. A tutor whose pitch rests on teaching at your child's school is offering an arrangement to decline, and the current wording should be checked against ADEK's own policy document.

Those tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no published fine schedule, so any quoted amount is unverified. For completeness, IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, Cambridge International or Pearson. A tuition centre with premises in Dubai would need a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is a different and specific thing.

07

Practical papers and the line a tutor will not cross

IGCSE carries less assessed coursework than the Diploma, but the practical component and any school-supervised work still have a boundary, and it is worth knowing where it sits before buying anything.

Inside the boundary, and entirely teachable in a short session: apparatus conventions, how to draw and read a results table, uncertainty and significant figures, choosing a sensible scale for a graph, and the standard phrasing a mark scheme rewards for describing a method or a source of error. None of that needs a laboratory, and all of it carries marks.

Outside the boundary: producing data, writing up an investigation, supplying answers for work that will be submitted, or preparing material a student presents as their own. We also will not reproduce or supply board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads; the correct route is to cite the official page and link to it.

One question settles which kind of provider you are dealing with. Ask what they would do if a student brought submitted work the night before it was due. An answer about reading and marking it against criteria is correct. An answer that involves fixing it tells you what else is for sale, and the research behind this page found completed assessments on offer to UAE students at around AED 3,750, so it is not a hypothetical concern.

There is one more thing worth asking about materials. A provider that advertises a library of past papers and mark schemes for download has already answered a question about how it treats board copyright, and by extension about how carefully it treats everything else. Citing and linking the official page is the correct route and costs nothing.

What we can cover from here, and the slots that fill first

  • Well supplied: Maths, separate sciences, English, Geography, History
  • Confirm the code first: co-ordinated and combined science
  • Limited: Additional Maths 0606, Computer Science 0478, ICT 0417
  • Thin: second modern languages, usually declined with a referral
  • Short weeknight slots are easier to place than ninety-minute ones

Availability transparency is missing from every competitor page reviewed for this project, so here is ours as a limit. Mathematics, the separate sciences, English and the humanities are well supplied and usually matched within a week. Co-ordinated science needs the code confirmed first. Additional Mathematics 0606, Computer Science 0478 and ICT 0417 are limited. Second modern languages are thin and often declined.

The slot matters as much as the subject. The weekend morning band and the six to eight weekday band are what every family in the emirate wants, so they go first. An Al Yahar family able to use an earlier Friday slot, a later weekend morning or a forty-five minute weeknight sees a materially wider choice immediately, because short slots are easier to place than long ones.

When we cannot cover a request we give a named date or decline. We do not substitute across specifications, because a separate-science tutor filling a co-ordinated science request or a 0580 specialist filling a 0606 request will teach competently and off-specification, and that failure is invisible until the paper.

Put the same questions to anyone, including a local in-home tutor. Can you cover this code and tier, in this slot, starting when. Will you work in a forty-five minute session if that is what the evening allows. What happens if the first tutor is wrong. Three specific answers make a provider comparable; an unqualified yes to everything does not.

One further thing a family can control. Giving two possible slots rather than one roughly doubles the field, because a specialist with a Wednesday gap and no Tuesday gap becomes available. In the scarcer subjects that flexibility is worth more than any other concession a family can make.

Where we tutor

Al Yahar and the areas around it

Grouped by how much usable evening the school run leaves, since that is the variable that determines what a session can be asked to do.

Zakher

The southern edge towards the Omani border, with a comparable journey. Families here face the same short evening and the same reliance on weekend mornings for whole-paper practice.

Al Maqam

Southern and spread out, somewhat closer to the school cluster. Weeknight sessions start after six but a full hour is usually workable, which widens what the slot can do.

Al Khabisi

Central with short runs. Ninety-minute weeknight sessions are realistic here, which means a whole paper section plus marking fits in one sitting.

Al Mutaredh

Beside the central school cluster with the shortest journeys in the city. The only area where a full timed paper can be attempted on a weekday afternoon.

Al Jimi

Dense and long-established near the souk and hospital. Moderate journeys, with household working patterns rather than distance pushing sessions later.

Al Muwaiji

Central and residential, minutes from several older private schools. Families here can usually quote their child's syllabus code, which speeds up any match.

Hili

North of the centre towards the Oman road, the northern equivalent of Al Yahar's distance and with the same consequence for session length.

Falaj Hazza

Central and established with dependable mid-afternoon availability, which is the practical benefit an outlying family is trying to approximate with weekend slots.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the journey, not the bell

When does your child actually get home, which weekdays carry an activity, and is a weekend morning protected. For an Al Yahar family that usually produces a short weeknight slot and one longer weekend block, and knowing it first means we only propose tutors who can work in both lengths.

  2. 02

Get the board, code and tier

The schools serving this area use both Cambridge and Pearson, so this is the first and cheapest step. Cambridge 0620 Extended and Pearson 4CH1 are different requests. The school office or the statement of entry has it, and quoting the code removes most of the mismatch risk before any money moves.

  3. 03

Send a marked paper and book the post-mock session early

A marked paper sorts the problem into blanks, method errors, timing failures and phrasing, each with a different fix and duration. Book a ninety-minute weekend session for the fortnight after mocks before the mocks happen, because that is the highest-return hour of the year for a family with limited weekly capacity.

  4. 04

Agree which task belongs in which length

Short weeknight sessions take drills, marking and oral rehearsal. The weekend morning takes timed practice and the subjects that do not split. If a proposed session's task does not match its length, say so; a good tutor adjusts immediately because they already know this.

  5. 05

Put the volume in the holidays

Breaks remove the journey and make daily morning sessions possible, which is the only way an outlying family can accumulate hours quickly. Those blocks are aimed at content repair rather than exam technique, because technique work needs the term's marked papers to react to.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Sessions sized to the evening

Forty-five minutes is a real slot here, planned with one named task, rather than a shortened hour. A visiting tutor cannot sensibly travel a long distance for forty-five minutes, which removes exactly the option an Al Yahar weeknight needs.

Timed practice that survives a short week

Paper practice is split deliberately, with proportional minutes held inside each fragment, so the timing discipline is still being trained. Marking happens inside the session rather than being left undone, which is the commonest waste in short-session tutoring.

Matched on the code, not the subject name

The schools serving this area use both boards, and Cambridge 0625 and Pearson 4PH1 examine practical skills differently. A tutor is proposed only for the specification and tier your child actually sits.

Coverage stated before you book

Additional Mathematics 0606, Computer Science and ICT are limited and second languages are thin across the whole city. We give a named date or decline rather than substituting a tutor from a different specification.

Delivery stated at the top

One-to-one live video on Gulf Standard Time, with no home visits anywhere in the UAE because that service exists only in India. On the in-home axis we are not an option, and that belongs before a booking rather than after.

Dates with sources, or no dates

Cambridge and Pearson calendar facts are given with their sources and future series are named by month only. We do not publish IB session dates at all, because the IB's own site is the only source and none has been confirmed in this project.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Yahar: your questions answered

Is a 45-minute session long enough to be worth paying for in Al Yahar?+

Yes, provided it has one job. Forty-five minutes handles a calculation drill, a command-term exercise, marking a section your child completed earlier in the week, or rehearsing a speaking component, and all of those move marks. What it cannot do is a full past paper or new Extended-tier content late in the course. The failure mode is a tutor running their standard hour-long lesson in less time, which produces partial work and a student who feels behind. Agree the task before the session, not during it.

How do we fit timed paper practice into a short Al Yahar evening?+

Split it and keep the clock. Give each fragment its proportional minutes: the first ten marks of a paper, one structured question, or one extended-response question, each strictly timed. A student who does half a paper in half the allotted time has practised timing properly; one who does half a paper slowly has practised something else. Marking matters as much as attempting, so a smaller fragment marked inside the session beats a larger one left unmarked. Whole papers belong on the weekend morning.

Does IB Gram send an IGCSE tutor out to Al Yahar?+

No, and not anywhere else in the UAE. In-person home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Al Yahar students are taught one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. We state that before any booking because the phrase families search is 'home tutor' and the format should never be a surprise. If physical presence is a requirement, hire locally, ask which MoHRE permit category the tutor holds, and expect the rate at the top of the in-home band because of the distance.

Why is the fortnight after mocks the most valuable tutoring purchase?+

Because mocks are the only full-length diagnostic most IGCSE students get, and the information is in the scripts rather than the grade. Sort every lost mark into blanks, method errors, timing failures and mark-scheme phrasing. Blanks mean content was never learnt and need a holiday block. Method and phrasing mean technique and need a few hours. Timing failures need split-paper practice. The same grade can come from two students needing entirely different plans, which is why reacting to the number instead of the script wastes money.

Which IGCSE subjects split well into short sessions?+

Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Economics and Business split very well, because the high-yield work is drills, command terms, definitions, diagram accuracy and short structured questions. Chemistry splits for calculations and not for organic pathways. English splits for technique and not for full timed compositions. Additional Mathematics 0606 and ICT practical work split poorly and want a longer block. Plan the weeknights around the first group and protect the weekend morning for the second, which is the whole scheduling argument for this area.

How do I find out which Cambridge zone my child's school is in?+

Ask the exams officer, in writing, in the first term of Year 11, and keep the reply. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and says it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. For an outlying family who cannot easily call into school, having that in an email matters more than for a family living next to it. Then work from that zone's timetable only.

Do Al Ain students ever sit the Cambridge February/March series?+

No. The February/March series is offered to India only. UAE candidates sit the June series and the November series, with Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. If a tutoring page quotes you a February/March entry deadline, it has published another country's calendar and acting on it would mean missing an entry. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. Always confirm dates on the board's own live timetable rather than from a restated version on any site, including this one.

What does a November Pearson entry mean for when results arrive?+

Historically, a January result. The documented pattern is that the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. That lag matters if a sixth-form or university deadline falls between the paper and the result. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and revises them, so check the live official timetable before planning around any future series.

Should we use the school holidays to catch up on content?+

Yes, and it is the only realistic way for an outlying family to accumulate hours. During a break the journey disappears, which makes daily morning sessions possible, and morning work is far better than evening work for anything requiring consolidation across consecutive days. Aim holiday blocks at content repair rather than exam technique, because technique work needs the term's marked papers and a live mock to react to. Six to twelve sessions in a break does more real learning than the same hours spread thinly through a term.

Can a tutor prepare my child for a Cambridge practical paper online?+

For the examinable skills, yes, and those are most of the marks. Apparatus conventions, drawing and reading results tables, uncertainty and significant figures, choosing a sensible graph scale, and the standard phrasing a mark scheme rewards for describing a method or a source of error can all be taught and drilled remotely from past practical papers. What matters first is which paper your child actually sits: Cambridge offers a practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper, while Pearson examines practical skills inside the written papers. Confirm with the school before any plan is built.

Which IGCSE subjects are hard to find a tutor for in Al Ain?+

Additional Mathematics 0606, Computer Science 0478 and ICT 0417 are limited, and second modern languages are thin and often declined. The cause is structural: Al Ain's private-school set is considerably smaller than Abu Dhabi island's, so few schools offer these subjects and few teachers have taken a cohort through them. An outlying address compounds it for any in-home arrangement. Mathematics, the separate sciences, English, Geography and History are well supplied and should be matched within a week at a mid-band rate.

Why are short slots easier to book than long ones?+

Because a forty-five minute session fits into gaps that a ninety-minute one cannot, so there are simply more of them available. The weekend morning band and the six to eight weekday evening band are what every family in the emirate wants and they fill first. A family willing to take an earlier Friday slot, a later weekend morning or a short weeknight sees a materially wider choice of tutor, and in the scarcer subjects that choice is the difference between a specialist and a fortnight's wait.

What practice should be set between sessions for a Year 11 student here?+

A single question section with a timer, not a full paper. A tutor who sets two hours of work for a weeknight after a long journey has set something that will not be done, and the next session gets spent discussing why rather than on the subject. The loop that works is: the student attempts a timed fragment alone on a weeknight, the next session marks and corrects it, and the weekend morning takes a whole section under proper conditions. That produces real timed practice from a week that looks too short for any.

Can a teacher at my child's Al Ain school tutor them privately?+

Not for payment. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE private tuition work permit carries a code of conduct barring the same thing. Teachers who tutor outside school hours must hold the permit, which is free and valid for two years. If a tutor's pitch rests on teaching at your child's school, treat it as a reason to decline rather than a credential, and check the current wording against ADEK's own published policy.

Tell us how long the evening really is

An IGCSE home tutor in Al Yahar has to work in the time a long school run leaves, which is usually one short weeknight slot and one protected weekend morning. Send us the board, the syllabus code, the tier, a recent marked paper and the hour your child actually gets home. We will propose a tutor who can run a focused forty-five minutes on a weeknight and ninety minutes of timed practice at the weekend, and we will book the post-mock analysis session before the mocks happen. Holidays are planned in as the place where content repair happens. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a free trial first.
