IGCSE Home Tutor in Al Helio

Parents searching for an IGCSE home tutor in Al Helio are weighing two different things at once: the small number of tutors who live near enough to drive over, and the much larger pool reachable by live video. This page works through that comparison with real figures — what Ajman families pay, what the travel premium actually buys, and why the answer barely shifts if you move one street into Al Nuaimiya or Al Mowaihat. IB Gram teaches Al Helio students one-to-one online, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Helio

What an IGCSE home tutor in Al Helio costs you, in money and in minutes

Start with the arithmetic a search engine will not do for you. An in-home IGCSE tutor visiting Al Helio charges for the hour taught and, indirectly, for the hour spent getting there and back. Market rates collected across the UAE in October 2026 put in-home one-to-one visits at roughly AED 180-350 on Bestimate's own rate table, with independent home tutors quoting as high as AED 500. The same qualified-subject-tutor tier delivered online sits at roughly AED 150-300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150. The gap between those two bands is not a quality gap. It is a car.

Al Helio sits inland, off Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Street, with Al Nuaimiya to the north-west and Al Mowaihat and Al Rawda on either side. A tutor living in Sharjah or Dubai who agrees to a 5pm session in Al Helio is committing to the late-afternoon run up Emirates Road or Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and will price that commitment in. A tutor living in Ajman itself avoids the drive but belongs to a far smaller pool: Ajman's private-school sector is modest, and the number of adults in it who have taught Cambridge Physics 0625 Extended to a Year 11 class is smaller still.

That is the comparison worth making before any money changes hands. If your child needs help with Mathematics 0580 at Core level, a competent generalist within fifteen minutes' drive may be entirely adequate. If your child needs Chemistry 0620 Extended, where marks turn on titration calculations and ionic-equation balancing, the question is not who is close. It is who has marked that paper and knows which of the six command verbs on it actually demands a comparison rather than a description.

Move the same question one neighbourhood over and nothing changes. A family in Al Nuaimiya has the same short local tutor list and the same long drive-in list. A family in Al Jurf or Emirates City has a slightly different commute and an identical shortage of Extended-tier science specialists. This is the honest finding of this page: in Ajman the binding constraint is the depth of the subject pool, not the distance to it, and distance is the only one of those two that a car solves.

So here is what IB Gram does and does not do. Lessons for Al Helio students are delivered one-to-one over live video, on a screen the student and tutor both write on, timed to Gulf Standard Time around the Ajman school day. IB Gram does not send a tutor to an address in Al Helio or anywhere else in the UAE; door-to-door visiting is a service we run only in India. What that buys you is choice of teacher rather than choice of postcode, and it is why the rest of this page is about syllabus codes, exam series and permits rather than driving times.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Al Helio families usually arrive at IGCSE through a Cambridge Lower Secondary route and leave it for AS and A Level or for a Diploma Programme elsewhere in the northern emirates. These are the four stages that matter, and what each one asks of a student living here.

LSAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary and Checkpoint

The three years before IGCSE entry decisions are made. Cambridge runs Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October, and schools use them to stream students into Core or Extended tiers. The maths and science content here is thin by IGCSE standards but the habits are not: algebraic manipulation, unit conversion, graph reading and writing a conclusion that references data. A student who leaves Year 9 unable to rearrange a formula will meet that gap again in Physics 0625 within a term.

Ajman schools generally make the Core-versus-Extended call during Year 9, and once a child is entered for Core the grade ceiling is fixed at a 5 on the 9-1 scale. Families in Al Helio who intend their child to continue to AS Level maths or science should ask the school, in Year 9 rather than Year 10, which tier the child is being pointed at and what the school wants to see to move them up.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

A two-year, subject-by-subject qualification with a syllabus code for every course: 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry, 0610 Biology, 0500 First Language English. Most subjects are assessed by two or three written papers with no coursework, which makes past-paper technique unusually decisive. Cambridge sets a June and a November series for international centres, each with its own entry deadline and its own zone timetable, and the zone matters: centres are allocated to one of six administrative timetable zones.

Ask your child's school in Al Helio which Cambridge zone it sits in before you plan revision around any published timetable. Cambridge states plainly that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. A tutor working from a Dubai school's zone timetable can have a student peaking a week late.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The other board in the UAE, with its own codes — 4MA1 Mathematics A, 4PH1 Physics, 4CH1 Chemistry, 4BI1 Biology. Pearson runs May/June and November sittings each year. Some Edexcel courses are available in a modular pattern, meaning units can be banked across sittings rather than sat in one block, which changes revision planning substantially. Grades are reported on the 9-1 scale and Pearson publishes provisional timetables well ahead of each series.

Plenty of Ajman families discover only in Year 11 that their child is an Edexcel candidate, not a Cambridge one, because the school changed board between cohorts. The two boards test the same physics with different paper structures and different mark-scheme wording. Check the board on the statement of entry, not on the textbook cover, and tell your tutor at the first session.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level

Where IGCSE grades stop being a report-card line and start being an entry requirement. AS and A Level sciences assume fluency with the IGCSE Extended content, not the Core content, and maths at A Level assumes 0580 Extended or 0606 Additional Mathematics. The jump is real: the first term of AS Chemistry revisits moles and bonding at a depth that exposes any IGCSE calculation weakness within weeks.

For Al Helio students, the practical question is whether to stay in Ajman for Years 12 and 13 or commute to Sharjah or Dubai for a wider subject menu. Either way, the UAE Ministry of Education equivalency route for the British track requires one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level, alongside the five IGCSE passes.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects Ajman families ask about most often, with the syllabus code and the specific place marks go missing. A tutor who cannot tell you where the marks are lost in a subject is not a specialist in it.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Edexcel 4MA1)

Core and Extended

Two papers at each tier, no coursework. Extended candidates lose marks in bulk on three things: incomplete working on multi-step problems where method marks are available, bearings and trigonometry in non-right-angled triangles, and probability trees drawn without replacement. Core candidates more often lose marks to arithmetic slips under time pressure than to unknown topics.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606)

Extended only

Taken alongside 0580 by students heading for A Level Mathematics. Introduces calculus, logarithms, binomial expansion and kinematics well before AS Level. The common failure is treating it as harder 0580 rather than a different course: differentiation questions here expect a candidate to interpret the derivative, not only compute it.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Edexcel 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Electricity and electromagnetism account for the largest share of lost marks in most cohorts, followed by moments and density calculations where units are dropped. The alternative-to-practical paper rewards a very specific skill: describing a method precisely enough that someone else could repeat it, including the control variables.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Edexcel 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Mole calculations, titration arithmetic and ionic equations are where Extended candidates separate. Organic chemistry is usually learned rather than understood, so questions asking why an addition reaction differs from a substitution one find the gap. Qualitative analysis tables reward memorisation and are the cheapest marks on the paper.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Edexcel 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Content volume is the problem, not difficulty. Candidates who revise by rereading notes fail to produce the exact terminology the mark scheme wants: active transport against a concentration gradient, selective reabsorption in the proximal convoluted tubule. Genetics and osmosis questions carry the most method marks and are the most skipped in revision.

Combined and Co-ordinated Sciences (Cambridge 0653 / 0654)

Core and Extended

One or two grades covering biology, chemistry and physics, chosen by students who need science but not three separate ones. The tutoring trap is treating it as a third of each subject; the syllabus has its own content list and its own exclusions, and revising from a single-science textbook wastes weeks on material that will not be examined.

First Language English (Cambridge 0500)

Single tier

Directed writing and the reading passages, where the marks are in reading comprehension rather than vocabulary. Students lose Reading marks by summarising when asked to analyse effect, and Writing marks by producing an essay with no discernible structure. This is the subject where a tutor's feedback on one piece of the student's own writing moves a grade fastest.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510 / 0511)

Core and Extended

Counted by many universities as proof of English proficiency, so the grade matters beyond the certificate. The writing tasks are assessed against a specific register and word count, and candidates habitually overshoot both. Listening sections reward prediction from the question wording before the recording starts.

Economics (Cambridge 0455)

Single tier

Diagram accuracy is the whole game: an unlabelled axis or a shifted curve in the wrong direction costs the analysis marks regardless of the prose around it. Extended-response questions need an evaluation paragraph that actually weighs, rather than a summary that restates. Popular in Ajman as a fourth option subject.

Arabic as a First or Second Language (Cambridge 0508 / 0544)

Both routes

Mandatory in UAE private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and taught as separate courses for Arab and non-Arab students. Worth noting for equivalency planning: Arabic and Islamic Education are not included among the five accredited subjects the Ministry of Education counts for the British-track GCSE and IGCSE requirement.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats are realistically available to an Al Helio family, and they are not interchangeable. Pick by what the problem actually is, not by what sounds most committed.

Weekly one-to-one online, term-long

The default for a student who is two grades below target with more than a term to go. One or two 60-minute sessions a week, same tutor, working through the school's scheme of work slightly ahead of the class so lessons land as revision rather than first exposure. Progress is visible in the student's own past-paper scores rather than in a report.

  • Same specialist each week, so nothing is re-explained from scratch
  • Session notes and the marked paper stay with the family
  • Rescheduling around Ajman school assessment weeks

Exam-run intensive before a series

Six to ten weeks of two or three sessions a week, aimed at a specific June or November paper. The content is not retaught; it is tested. Each session is built around a timed section of a past paper, marked against the published scheme, with the next session attacking whatever that revealed. Suits a student whose problem is technique and timing rather than knowledge.

  • Timed paper sections under exam conditions, marked to the scheme
  • A written list of the three topics costing the most marks
  • Tapering in the final fortnight rather than cramming

Single-topic repair sessions

Two to four sessions on one named weakness: electromagnetic induction, mole calculations, bearings, osmosis. Cheapest useful intervention available and the one most Al Helio families should try first. If two sessions on moments fix the problem, there is no reason to buy a term of weekly tuition for it.

  • Diagnostic first, from the student's own marked work
  • No commitment beyond the sessions booked
  • A clear finish line, so progress is checkable

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Helio

Al Helio against the next street over: what actually changes

This page exists because parents ask the question geographically and the answer is not geographic. A family in Al Helio and a family in Al Nuaimiya face the same two options and the same shortage. What differs between Ajman neighbourhoods is the drive, the realistic earliest session start, and which schools are on the daily run. What does not differ is how many people within ten kilometres have taught Chemistry 0620 Extended to an examination class.

The table below sets out the comparison honestly. Commute figures are ordinary late-afternoon driving reality rather than published data, and they are the only column where the neighbourhoods genuinely separate. Read down the final column and the argument makes itself: once lessons are on a screen, every row becomes identical, and the only remaining variable is whether the tutor knows the paper.

There is a second, quieter effect. Group tuition needs a minimum number of students at the same subject and the same tier in the same place at the same hour. In Dubai Marina that assembles easily. In Al Yasmeen or Al Zorah it does not, which is why in-home group arrangements in the smaller northern neighbourhoods tend to mix tiers and end up pitched at nobody. One-to-one does not have that failure mode, and online one-to-one does not have the travel cost either.

So the practical advice for an Al Helio family is to stop shortlisting by distance. Shortlist by subject and tier, ask each candidate which board and which papers they have taught, and ask them to mark one piece of your child's own work before you book a term.

What IGCSE tutoring costs in Ajman, cheapest option first

Begin at the bottom of the market rather than the top, because that is where most families actually start. Budget online tutoring, usually delivered by university students or recent graduates, is advertised from AED 45-65 by EdFlik and from AED 33-52 by Tutopiya. That tier can genuinely help a Year 9 student with homework habits. It is not where you go for Extended-tier exam technique, and the honest reason is that the person teaching has usually never marked the paper.

The qualified-subject-tutor tier online runs roughly AED 150-300 per hour, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Step up to a named IGCSE or A Level specialist and the published range is AED 200-450 and above, with TutorChase listing AED 270 and Bestimate's 2026 Dubai rate table reaching AED 450 and beyond. At the very top, BartyED publishes AED 650 for examiner-led work. Every one of those figures is the provider's own published rate, read in October 2026, not an IB Gram price.

In-home visits sit on their own curve. Bestimate's table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180-350; independent home tutors advertise AED 200-500. Monthly packages seen across the market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Compare those two monthly numbers and the travel premium is roughly the price of the tuition itself. For an Ajman address that is not surprising, because the person quoting it is pricing an hour of Emirates Road.

What should an Al Helio family budget? For one weekly hour with a qualified online subject tutor, the market monthly estimate for the mid tier is AED 600-1,200, rising to AED 1,000-2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Those are Bestimate's own monthly estimates, not ours. IB Gram's own position is a free trial lesson first and a consultation on the plan, because the right answer for a student needing two sessions on bearings is not the same as for a student three grades off target in Chemistry.

03

The travel premium, priced honestly

A tutor who drives to Al Helio for a 60-minute lesson is out of the house for closer to two hours. Nobody works for half their hourly rate, so one of three things happens: the rate goes up, the lesson length goes up to make the trip worthwhile, or the tutor accepts only clients clustered within a few streets. All three have consequences for your child, and the third is the one families never see.

The rate consequence is visible in the figures above: roughly AED 180-350 in-home against roughly AED 150-300 online for a comparable tutor, and a monthly in-home package at AED 1,599-1,799 against AED 799 online. The lesson-length consequence shows up as the two-hour in-home session that is standard in the packages quoted across the market. Two hours is a long time for a fifteen-year-old to concentrate on mole calculations, and the second hour is frequently worth much less than the first.

The clustering consequence is the important one. A tutor who will only take clients within a tight radius is selecting on geography, and so, by accident, are you. Your child ends up with whoever teaches near Al Helio rather than whoever teaches Chemistry 0620 Extended well. In a large emirate that tradeoff is survivable. In Ajman, where the whole private-school sector is small and specialist Extended-tier science teaching is genuinely scarce, it is the single biggest avoidable mistake in this market.

None of that makes in-home tutoring wrong. It is the right answer for a young child who needs an adult physically present, for a student with access needs that make screen work hard, and for families who have tried online and found it did not hold attention. It is simply a choice with a price, and the price in Ajman is paid in subject expertise rather than dirhams.

04

Cambridge or Edexcel: find out which board entered your child

Ask ten Ajman parents which IGCSE board their child sits and several will not know. It is not carelessness; schools change board between cohorts and the textbook on the shelf is often the wrong clue. The statement of entry is the reliable source, and the difference matters enough that a tutor should know before the first session.

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November. For a UAE candidate the practical difference is paper structure and the modular option: some Edexcel courses allow units to be banked across sittings, where Cambridge IGCSE candidates normally sit the whole subject in one series.

One point of national confusion deserves stating flatly. Cambridge's February/March series is offered to India only. A UAE candidate does not sit it, and any revision plan built around a February exam window is built for the wrong country. Your child's series is June, with November as the resit route. The second thing to check is your centre's timetable zone: Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, says it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and states that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one.

A tutor who asks for the board, the tier and the zone in the first conversation is telling you something useful about how they work. One who starts teaching content before establishing those three things is guessing, and in a two-paper subject with no coursework, a guess about paper structure is an expensive guess.

Who is legally allowed to tutor your child in Ajman

  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free and valid for two years
  • Eligible applicants include school teachers, employees, students aged 15-18 and university students
  • Apply through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services; stated completion time is two working days
  • No fine amounts have been published; treat any quoted figure as unverified
  • A tuition centre with premises needs a separate educational services permit

Private tutoring in the UAE is permitted and regulated. The route is a private tuition work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories are wide: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students.

The service itself is listed by the ministry as Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are, in the ministry's own words, subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so any figure circulating online should be treated as unverified.

Two practical consequences for an Al Helio family. First, it is a fair and entirely normal question to ask a prospective tutor whether they hold the permit; the permit is free, so there is no cost excuse for not having one. Second, a tutoring operation with premises and staff is a different legal animal from an individual tutor and needs an educational services permit from the relevant authority. Nobody should describe themselves as regulator-approved on the strength of an individual tuition permit, and IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or licence from the Ministry of Education, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA or MoHRE.

There is also a conduct dimension. The permit carries a code of conduct, and in Abu Dhabi the education department's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school. Press reporting describes that rule for Abu Dhabi specifically, and the sensible reading for any emirate is that your child's own classroom teacher is the wrong person to hire privately, whatever the local rule says.

06

Core or Extended, and why the decision is really made in Year 9

Cambridge tiers most of its maths and science IGCSEs. Core candidates sit an easier pair of papers with a grade ceiling; Extended candidates sit harder papers with access to the top grades. On the 9-1 scale, a Core entry in Mathematics 0580 caps the achievable grade at a 5, and no amount of brilliance in the exam room lifts it above that. This is arithmetic, not opinion, and it is the most consequential decision in the whole two-year course.

The decision is usually made by the school during Year 9 or early Year 10, on the evidence of Checkpoint results and classwork. That timing is the problem. A student who was shaky with algebra at thirteen and competent at fifteen may already be locked into a ceiling set when they were thirteen. Moving up a tier is possible but the window closes at the entry deadline, which sits months before the papers.

So the useful tutoring conversation in Al Helio is not always about the exam. For a Year 9 or early Year 10 student, it is about producing the evidence a school needs to move a tier: a run of Extended-paper questions done competently, marked to the published scheme, with the gaps closed. That is a short, finite, checkable piece of work, usually a few weeks rather than a term, and it is worth far more than a year of general support at Core level.

For a Year 11 student already entered for Core, the honest conversation is different and should be had plainly. The ceiling is the ceiling. The job becomes securing the top of the Core range reliably, and then planning what the next qualification looks like given that grade, which for a student aiming at AS Level sciences may mean a November resit at Extended tier rather than a rushed application.

07

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside the IGCSE timetable

Every private school in the UAE teaches the mandatory UAE subjects whatever international curriculum it is licensed for. The federal position is that private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, while adhering to the Ministry's general regulations. For an Ajman school under federal Ministry of Education oversight, that is the baseline, and it means a Year 11 student carrying nine IGCSEs is also carrying these subjects.

The documented detail from Dubai's regulator is instructive even outside Dubai, because the underlying federal requirement is the same. Schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for the two groups are prohibited because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and any mandatory-subject lesson is advised to run at least 25 minutes.

Two things follow for tutoring. First, material for these subjects is constrained: the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is prohibited, so nobody should be selling a parallel Arabic or Islamic Education syllabus. Support here means working with the school's own material and the school's own assessment, not substituting something else. Second, teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic are required to hold the relevant regulator approval to teach those subjects, which is a concrete credential a parent can ask about.

The equivalency point is the one Al Helio parents most often miss. For the British track, the Ministry of Education requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3 — and Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five. A student with five passes where two of them are Arabic and Islamic Education does not have five counting subjects. Plan the option blocks in Year 9 with that in mind.

08

MoE equivalency: the five subjects that have to count

  • British track: five GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3
  • Plus one A Level at grade E or better, or two AS Levels at the same grade
  • Arabic and Islamic education do not count towards the five
  • American track: SAT Math 450+, English via IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or SAT 450 reading and writing
  • No IB points threshold is published here; confirm it with the Ministry of Education

Equivalency is the Ministry of Education process that converts a foreign school certificate into something UAE authorities and universities recognise. It is not something a tutoring service performs, guarantees or speeds up, and it is not a reason to buy tuition. It is, though, the thing that quietly determines whether a strong IGCSE profile is usable, and the requirements are specific enough to plan around two years in advance.

For the British track, as clarified publicly in July 2026, students must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and must submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade no lower than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. One competitor page currently ranking on these queries states that UAE candidates must take six IGCSE subjects; the published rule is five.

For the American track the requirements are different in kind: English proficiency through a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics through at least 450 in the SAT Math test. For the IB Diploma there is no points threshold we are willing to publish, because none has been read on an official Ministry source, and an invented figure here would be worse than no figure at all. The planning implication for a family in Al Helio is simple. Count the counting subjects early. If your child is taking nine IGCSEs including Arabic and Islamic Education, you still need five from the remaining seven at grade 3 or better, and you need to know which of those seven are the accredited ones. That is a ten-minute conversation with the school in Year 9 and an expensive discovery in Year 13.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Helio

Al Helio sits in a cluster of Ajman neighbourhoods that share schools, roads and the same thin local supply of Extended-tier subject teachers. Here is what changes between them and what does not.

Al Nuaimiya

Older, denser and closer to the Sharjah border, with a mix of apartment towers and villas. Families here usually have the shortest school run of anyone in this list, and the longest list of possible schools because Sharjah options are realistic on a daily commute.

Al Mowaihat

Villa districts numbered one to three, inland and quieter, with a school run that depends heavily on which side of Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Street you live. Evening sessions are easy to schedule here because very few families are driving back from Dubai after 7pm.

Al Rawda

Residential and spread out, bordering Al Mowaihat, with several Indian-curriculum and British-curriculum schools within reach. The practical difference from Al Helio is parking and gate access for a visiting tutor, which matters less once lessons are on a screen.

Al Rashidiya, Ajman

Closer to the Corniche and the older commercial centre, with heavier through-traffic in the late afternoon. A 4.30pm session start here is routinely missed by a tutor driving in; a 4.30pm online start is not.

Al Jurf

Mostly industrial and institutional, with the main hospital and several mixed-use pockets. The families who live here tend to have a parent working in Sharjah or Dubai, which pushes homework and tutoring into the 7pm to 9pm window.

Emirates City

High-rise residential towers on the Emirates Road side of the emirate, popular with commuters into Dubai. Longest inbound commute in this cluster, which is the clearest single argument for not making a tutor drive to you.

Al Yasmeen and Al Zorah

Newer low-density developments towards the coast and the Al Zorah lagoon. Small school-age populations, so local group tuition rarely assembles enough students in one subject at one tier to be viable. One-to-one is the practical option here.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Helio

Ajman city and Al Helio

Schools within or close to the Al Helio, Al Nuaimiya and Al Mowaihat belt, running British, Indian and IB curricula. Boards differ between these schools and have changed between cohorts, so always confirm Cambridge or Edexcel from the statement of entry.

  • Ajman Academy
  • Pace British School Ajman
  • Habitat School Ajman
  • Woodlem Park School Ajman
  • Scholars Indian School Ajman
  • Al Ameer English School

The Sharjah commute

Many Al Helio families drive south across the border for a wider subject menu at IGCSE and A Level. Sharjah private schools are regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority rather than the federal ministry, which approves fees, curricula and assessment methods in that emirate.

  • Sharjah American International School
  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Delta English School
  • Emirates National School, Sharjah

Schools are named here as the local education context Al Helio families are choosing between; IB Gram claims no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the board, the tier and the paper

The first message that actually helps names the subject code, the tier, the board and the series your child is entered for. Mathematics 0580 Extended, Cambridge, June is a brief. Help with maths is not. If you do not know the board, the statement of entry has it.

  2. 02

Send one piece of marked work

A marked mock paper, a returned assessment, even a photograph of a page of corrections. This is the fastest diagnostic available and it costs nothing. It usually shows within minutes whether the problem is content, technique or timing, and those three need different tutors.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

A 45 to 60-minute one-to-one lesson over live video, with no card details taken and no obligation afterwards. Watch whether the tutor asks diagnostic questions before explaining anything, and whether your child talks. A trial lesson where the tutor lectures for 50 minutes has told you what the term will look like.

  4. 04

Agree a plan with a finish line

Weekly through a term, an intensive before a series, or two sessions on one named topic. Each has an end point and a way to tell whether it worked, which is normally the student's own score on a past paper done under time. Plans without a finish line quietly become subscriptions.

  5. 05

Review against the student's own marks

Every few weeks, look at whether past-paper scores in the weak topics have moved, not at whether sessions felt productive. If a plan is not working, change the tutor or change the plan. Say so early; the only thing that is wasted by changing at week four is less than what is wasted by changing at week twelve.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Subject match, not postcode match

An Al Helio family working online chooses from every tutor who teaches their child's exact subject, tier and board, rather than from those willing to drive out to Ajman at 5pm. In a market where Extended-tier science specialists are genuinely scarce locally, that is the difference the whole page is about.

Rates we attribute rather than invent

Every AED figure on this page is a provider's own published rate or a market table, named and dated to October 2026. We do not publish an invented price list, and we do not quote USD at parents who pay in dirhams. If a plan needs a quote, it comes after the free trial and the consultation.

The right exam series, for this country

UAE candidates sit June and November. Cambridge's February/March series is offered to India only, and plenty of online revision plans for IGCSE students are written for that calendar. We work from the board's series and your school's own timetable zone.

A hard line on coursework

A tutor teaches, reviews and gives feedback on the student's own work. Nobody at IB Gram produces a controlled assessment, a project or an essay for a student. One site ranking on these searches sells completed Internal Assessments; that is a malpractice trigger for the student, not a service.

Scheduling built around the Ajman evening

Plenty of Al Helio parents commute to Sharjah or Dubai, which pushes the workable tutoring window later than it is in Abu Dhabi. Online sessions can start at 3.30pm for a student at home or run to 9pm for one who needs a parent present, and can shift to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan.

No regulator claims we cannot evidence

IB Gram is not approved, accredited or licensed by the Ministry of Education, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and has no UAE office. We explain what those bodies do and link to them. Several pages in this search result imply approval they do not hold.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Helio: your questions answered

Can I actually get an IGCSE home tutor in Al Helio who comes to the villa?+

Independent tutors and agencies do advertise in-home visits across Ajman, with market rates for in-home one-to-one running roughly AED 180-350 on Bestimate's 2026 table and up to AED 500 from some independent tutors. IB Gram is not one of them: we teach Al Helio students one-to-one over live video, and door-to-door visiting is a service we run only in India. The practical trade is specialism for presence. Driving-distance shortlists in Ajman are short, especially in Extended-tier sciences, so an online match usually produces a better subject fit at a lower hourly rate.

Is online IGCSE tuition really as useful as a tutor sitting next to my child in Al Helio?+

For exam-focused IGCSE work, the format matters less than the format of the lesson. A shared screen both people write on, the student's own marked paper open, and a mark scheme alongside it reproduces almost everything a kitchen table offers, and adds a recording of the working. Where presence genuinely matters is younger children, students who need an adult physically managing attention, and some access needs. For a Year 10 or Year 11 student working through past papers, the deciding factor is whether the tutor has taught that paper.

What do private tutors charge per hour in Ajman at the moment?+

Taking published provider rates read in October 2026: budget online tutoring starts around AED 33-65, with Tutopiya from AED 33-52 and EdFlik from AED 45-65. A qualified subject tutor online runs roughly AED 150-300, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150. Named IGCSE and A Level specialists are published at AED 200-450 and above, TutorChase at AED 270, and examiner-led premium work at AED 650 from BartyED. In-home visits sit at roughly AED 180-500. These are the providers' own figures, not IB Gram's price list.

Which IGCSE exam series will my child in Al Helio sit?+

June, with November available as the resit route. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series for international centres. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. Cambridge's February/March series is offered to India only, so a UAE candidate never sits it, and revision plans written around a February window belong to another country. Ask your school which of Cambridge's six administrative timetable zones it sits in before fixing any revision schedule.

Is there any real difference between tutoring in Al Helio and in Al Nuaimiya or Al Mowaihat?+

Only in the drive. The schools on the daily run shift a little, the earliest workable in-home start time moves by half an hour or so, and traffic patterns differ around the main streets. The thing that actually limits a tutoring plan is identical across all three: the number of local adults who have taught Chemistry 0620 Extended or Additional Mathematics 0606 to an examination class is small. Once lessons are online, the neighbourhood stops being a variable altogether and subject match becomes the only question worth asking.

Do tutors working in Ajman need a government permit?+

Yes. Private tutoring in the UAE runs through a private tuition work permit issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years and covers school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. The ministry states that individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so treat quoted amounts as unverified. Asking a tutor about the permit is reasonable: it is free.

My child is entered for Core Mathematics. Can tutoring still get a grade 7?+

Not within that entry. A Cambridge IGCSE Core entry in Mathematics 0580 caps the achievable grade at a 5 on the 9-1 scale, and the exam cannot award above the tier ceiling however well it is sat. If the target genuinely needs a higher grade, the conversation is with the school about moving tier before the entry deadline, which sits months before the papers. Where a move is possible, the useful tutoring job is producing the evidence for it: Extended-paper questions done competently and marked to the published scheme. Where it is not, plan a November Extended entry instead.

How do I find out whether my child's school uses Cambridge or Edexcel?+

The statement of entry is the reliable source, not the textbook. Schools in Ajman have changed board between cohorts and the shelf rarely keeps up. It matters because paper structures differ, the mark-scheme wording differs, and the syllabus codes a tutor pulls past papers from differ entirely: Cambridge 0625 Physics against Pearson 4PH1, Cambridge 0580 Mathematics against Pearson 4MA1. Some Edexcel courses also allow units to be banked across sittings in a modular pattern, which changes how a revision plan is built. Tell the tutor the board at the first session.

We only want help with one topic, not a whole term. Is that possible?+

It should be your first option rather than your last. Two to four sessions on a single named weakness - electromagnetic induction, mole calculations, bearings, osmosis, probability without replacement - is the cheapest useful intervention in this market and often the only one needed. It has a diagnostic start, a defined end and a checkable result, which is the student scoring on that topic in a timed past-paper section. If two sessions on moments solve it, there is no reason to buy a term of weekly tuition on top.

Can a tutor help with my child's IGCSE coursework or controlled assessment?+

A tutor can teach the skills it assesses, explain the criteria, ask questions about the student's plan and give feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor cannot write it, rewrite it, or edit it to completion, and nobody at IB Gram will. That boundary is not pedantry: submitted work must be the student's own, and the consequences for breaching that fall on the student. One site ranking on these searches advertises completed Internal Assessments for sale. Treat that as a warning sign about the provider rather than a service on offer.

If my child in Al Helio takes nine IGCSEs, which five does the Ministry actually count?+

No. For the British track, the Ministry requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not included among those five. This catches families out in Year 13 rather than Year 9. If your child is taking nine IGCSEs and two of them are Arabic and Islamic Education, the five counting subjects must come from the other seven, and you need to know which of those are accredited. Ask the school while option blocks are still changeable.

What should a first session with an IGCSE tutor look like?+

Mostly diagnosis. A good first lesson spends its early minutes finding out what the student can actually do: a few questions from a past paper at the right tier, watched rather than explained, with the tutor noting where the method breaks. It ends with a short, specific statement of the two or three things costing the most marks and what the next sessions will do about them. If the first hour is a lecture on the topic the parent named, the tutor has accepted the diagnosis instead of making one.

Can sessions be scheduled late, or moved during Ramadan?+

Yes to both. Many Al Helio parents work in Sharjah or Dubai, which pushes the usable tutoring window later in the evening than it sits in Abu Dhabi. Online sessions can run from mid-afternoon for a student home from school, or as late as 9pm where a parent wants to be in the room. During Ramadan, sessions routinely shift to post-Iftar timing, and schedules flex again around school assessment weeks. Tell us the constraint when the plan is set rather than rescheduling week by week.

What happens if no tutor is available for the exact subject and tier we need?+

We say so rather than substituting a generalist. The honest position is that some narrow combinations - a particular Extended science with a particular board, close to a series - have thin availability, and pretending otherwise wastes your term. Where there is no good UAE-time match, the options are a different session slot that opens up a wider pool, a short diagnostic block with a specialist followed by weekly work with a strong generalist, or a recommendation to wait. None of those is as satisfying as a yes, and all of them beat a mismatch.

Start with one marked paper, not with a search radius

If you have read this far, you already know the finding: in Ajman, the limiting factor on an IGCSE tutoring plan is the depth of the subject pool, not the distance to it. So skip the shortlist by neighbourhood. Send us the subject code, the tier, the board and one piece of your child's marked work, and take the free trial lesson before deciding anything. Lessons for Al Helio students are one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, with your child's own school material on screen. If we cannot match the exact subject and tier well, we will tell you that instead of selling you a term.
