IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Emirates City

Typing IB IGCSE tutor near me in Emirates City usually means a budget conversation is already underway at home. This page is written for that conversation. It sets out the AED bands providers in this market publish, converts them into a monthly figure a household can plan around, names the four places families reliably waste money, and explains why a Diploma Programme hour and an IGCSE hour are not priced the same. Lessons from IB Gram run one-to-one over live video, never as a visit to an Ajman address.

IB & IGCSE in Emirates City

Pricing tuition like a household expense, not a rescue

A tuition decision taken in a panic costs roughly twice a tuition decision taken in October. That is the practical reason to look at the numbers early, and it is the reason this page leads with money rather than with pedagogy. Families in Emirates City are mostly in apartments, mostly with a parent commuting out of the emirate, and mostly paying school fees that already dominate the education line of the budget. Tuition has to fit next to that, not replace the thinking about it.

The published market spread is wide enough to confuse anyone. Budget online providers advertise from the mid forties per hour. Specialist exam-year tutors are quoted in the hundreds. A premium named tutor reaches AED 650. The spread is real, and it reflects genuinely different services, but it also hides a simpler truth: most of the variation in what a family eventually pays comes from how many hours they buy and how late they start, not from the hourly rate they negotiated.

So this page does the arithmetic the other way round. It starts from a monthly figure, works back to hours, and shows what each tier of the market publishes. It then lists the four ways money gets wasted in this market, because avoiding one of them saves more than shaving AED 30 off an hourly rate ever will.

The second half of the page handles the IB and IGCSE difference, which is where quotes stop being comparable. An IGCSE Extended hour and a Diploma Programme Higher Level hour are different products. Internal Assessment supervision is different again, and it is the component where the gap between legitimate support and malpractice is narrowest. All of that affects price, and a provider who quotes a single flat rate across the whole range has not thought about it.

There is also a question of what a household is buying at each tier. At the bottom of the published range sits a university student working through a syllabus they sat themselves three years ago, which is genuinely useful for a Year 8 catch-up and thin cover for a Diploma Higher Level paper. In the middle sits a qualified subject teacher who has taught the specification to a full cohort and knows the grade boundaries from experience. At the top sits scarcity: a tutor with a track record in one narrow component, priced because very few people can do that particular job. Deciding which of those three your child needs is a larger saving than any discount.

One structural note before the numbers. IB Gram is a matching platform with no office, centre or branch in the UAE. Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. Home visits are a service offered in India only, so no part of what follows includes a tutor arriving at a tower in Emirates City. That removes the travel premium from the equation entirely, which is itself a cost argument.

At a glance

  • One session a week is four a month: multiply before you compare quotes
  • The travel component of an in-home rate buys presence, not teaching time
  • Starting in Year 10 rather than the spring of Year 11 halves the total hours needed
  • IA, Extended Essay and TOK support are priced separately from subject teaching
  • No AED figure on this page is an IB Gram price; ours follows the free trial
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Emirates City households often run two curricula at once, with one child on a British track and another in the IB. Here is what each programme implies for the tuition bill.

IGCSEAges 14-16 - Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson International GCSE

Two years, graded 9-1 or A*-G, with a Core or Extended tier in most Cambridge subjects and Foundation or Higher in Pearson maths. The tier decision is a cost decision as well as an academic one: a Core entry caps the grade at C, and families who later want that door reopened pay for a rushed Extended conversion.

Across Ajman and Sharjah both boards are in use, sometimes within one school. Published rates for IGCSE support sit lower than Diploma rates: Unitors lists IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour against IB from AED 200. Budget to the specification rather than to the word IGCSE, because a 0580 Extended hour is not the same work as a Year 9 catch-up hour.

MYPAges 11-16 - Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Criterion-referenced assessment across eight subject groups, with no external papers in most schools until the Diploma. Parents often misread a criterion score as a percentage and buy tuition they do not need, or miss a genuine gap because the report reads positively. Understanding the criteria is usually worth one session before committing to a term.

MYP support is the cheapest intervention in the whole IB chain and the one families most often skip. A student who reaches Diploma Year 1 without algebraic fluency or lab-report discipline needs several times as many paid hours to repair it. Two years of a single weekly MYP session costs less than one panicked Diploma spring.

DPAges 16-19 - Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects at Higher or Standard Level plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Higher Level hours are the most expensive in the market because the pool of tutors who have taught a specific HL subject to the grade boundaries is genuinely small. The Extended Essay runs to 4,000 words and the TOK essay to 1,600, and supervision of both is priced as its own block.

UAE schools sit the May session. The two-year total matters more than the hourly rate here: one HL subject at one session a week across both Diploma years is around 70 hours, so a AED 50 difference in the rate is a AED 3,500 difference in the plan. That is the figure worth negotiating, not the single lesson.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Requests from this area split between IGCSE sciences and maths, and Diploma Higher Level subjects where specialist hours cost most. Each note says what drives the price.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580)

Core and Extended

The highest-volume request in the northern emirates and therefore the most competitively priced. The Extended non-calculator paper is where the paid hours earn their keep, because it exposes arithmetic weakness a calculator has masked for years.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

A Diploma Higher Level course with Papers 1, 2 and 3 plus a 20 per cent Internal Assessment. HL hours carry the top of the market rate because few tutors have taken a student through Paper 3 and the exploration to a high boundary.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The modelling and statistics route, calculator-active throughout. Cheaper to support than Analysis and Approaches at Standard Level, but the HL statistics content is specialist work and priced accordingly.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / IB DP)

Core, Extended, HL and SL

At IGCSE the practical component sits in its own paper slot; at Diploma level the scientific investigation carries 20 per cent. Two very different briefs that a single flat hourly quote tends to blur.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / IB DP)

Core, Extended, HL and SL

Mole calculations and organic mechanisms account for most of the gap between a 5 and a 7 at both levels. Diploma HL Chemistry is among the scarcest specialisms in the UAE market, which shows up directly in the rate.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / IB DP)

Core, Extended, HL and SL

Content-heavy and precision-marked. Cheaper to support than the physical sciences at IGCSE because the tutor pool is larger, with the data-response work being where paid hours convert into marks.

Economics (0455 / IB DP)

IGCSE and HL/SL

Diagram accuracy earns marks before analysis begins. At Diploma level the Higher Level paper adds quantitative work and the Internal Assessment is three commentaries, each of which needs feedback rather than drafting.

Business Studies (0450)

Single tier

Case-study application and evaluation marks are the recoverable ones. A short, well-targeted block of four to six sessions moves a grade here more reliably than a year of general support.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The Individual Oral and Paper 1 guided analysis are the components students under-rehearse. Priced in the mid band, and usually the subject where fewest total hours are needed if the work starts early.

English as a Second Language (0510 / 0511)

Single tier

The syllabus variant decides whether speaking is endorsed separately or counted in the grade, which changes how many hours of oral practice are worth buying in the final term.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families here buy hours, with the cost implication of each stated plainly. All run over live video.

One weekly hour, held all year

The cheapest effective pattern and the one that needs the least repair later. Four sessions a month at the qualified-tutor band works out near AED 600 to 1,200 a month on published rates. Its value comes from continuity: a tutor who sees the work every week catches a drift in October instead of diagnosing it in April.

  • Four sessions a month, same hour each week
  • Lowest total cost per grade moved across a full year
  • Written note to the parent after each session
  • Easiest pattern to protect against a crowded term

Two hours a week for one exam subject

Doubles the monthly figure and shortens the campaign. Suited to a single subject that is badly behind, where the student needs reteaching and timed practice in the same week. Families usually run it for a term rather than a year, then drop back to one hour once the gap closes.

  • One session for content, one for timed questions
  • Typically run for eight to twelve weeks
  • Reviewed on marked work before extending
  • Drops back to a single hour once the pattern of loss shifts

A fixed pre-series block

A defined number of hours bought for the weeks before the May, June or November papers, with a stated start and end. Priced as a block so the household knows the total in advance. The work is timed questions marked against the published scheme, not new content.

  • Stated number of hours with a fixed finish date
  • Scheduled around the school's own mock timetable
  • Marked against mark-scheme wording each week
  • No rolling commitment once the block ends

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Emirates City

01

What the word near costs you here

Searching for a tutor near Emirates City narrows the field to whoever lives within a reasonable drive and happens to be free at an evening hour. That constraint has a price, and it is paid twice. Once in the rate, because an in-home visit is quoted between AED 180 and AED 500 an hour and the upper part of that range reflects a car, fuel and forty minutes each way in the evening peak. Once in quality, because the specialist in the subject your child is failing may live in Abu Dhabi.

The teaching time is identical either way. Sixty minutes with a tutor on a screen and sixty minutes with a tutor on a dining chair contain the same sixty minutes of explanation. What differs is the travel premium, the cancellation risk, and the size of the pool you are choosing from. For a tower cluster on the edge of Ajman, the pool is the binding constraint.

There is one genuine benefit to presence worth stating honestly: a younger or very reluctant student may need an adult physically in the room to start work at all. For that child, in-home tuition does something online cannot, and a family should pay for it if that is the problem being solved. For a Year 10 or Diploma student who can already sit down with a laptop, it is a premium spent on logistics.

IB Gram does not sell in-home visits anywhere in the UAE, so this is not a sales preference dressed as advice. Home visits are an India-only service. The reason to put the comparison on the page is that no competing page in this market publishes the in-home premium at all, which leaves parents paying for travel without ever seeing it itemised.

02

A year of tuition as a budget line

  • Figures use published market bands, not an IB Gram price list
  • A plan total is the number to negotiate; an hourly rate is a distraction
  • Blocks with a stated end date stop a monthly charge drifting into a second year
  • Ask whether a 45-minute session is billed as an hour before paying for anything

Convert the hourly rate into a monthly commitment before comparing anything. One session a week is four a month, allowing for a term break. Two sessions a week is eight. At the published band for a qualified online subject tutor, AED 150 to 300 an hour, one weekly hour lands between AED 600 and AED 1,200 a month, and Bestimate's Dubai table gives the same shape: AED 240 to 600 for budget tutors, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

Then extend it across the period that matters. A single IGCSE subject supported from October of Year 11 to the June series is roughly eight months. A Diploma Higher Level subject supported across both years is closer to twenty months of term time. The second figure is the one that shocks families, and it is also the one where the hourly rate compounds: AED 50 an hour of difference across seventy sessions is AED 3,500.

Monthly packages advertised in this market give another reference point. Online blocks of eight sessions are offered around AED 799 a month, and in-home arrangements of four two-hour sessions at AED 1,599 to 1,799. Those are the packages competing pages publish, read in October 2026; they are included here as market context rather than as an IB Gram offer.

The table below sets out plans rather than rates, because a plan is what a household actually commits to. The AED column uses the published mid-band figure so the comparison is consistent, and the right-hand column names the thing families most often get wrong about each plan.

03

The four places the money goes nowhere

  • Make the first paid session work from a marked paper, not a textbook chapter
  • Match the format to the problem: groups give pace, one-to-one gives diagnosis
  • Strip the travel premium out unless presence is the thing being bought
  • Start a term earlier and buy roughly half the hours

The first is paying for content the student already holds. A tutor who begins by reteaching a topic from the start of the syllabus, rather than marking a recent paper to find where the method marks are vanishing, burns four to six hours before anything moves. Insist that the first session works from a marked script. If a tutor has no interest in seeing one, that is information.

The second is group tuition bought for a problem groups cannot fix. A centre class gives pace and practice volume at a lower price per hour, which is good value for a confident student. For a child who is two topics behind, it is the wrong instrument: the class cannot stop, so the gap persists while the invoice continues. Families often buy group sessions first because they are cheaper, then buy one-to-one anyway.

The third is the travel premium paid for a convenience the household does not actually need. A Diploma student who studies at a desk with headphones gains nothing from a tutor in the room, and the in-home rate carries between AED 30 and AED 150 of travel load depending on distance and timing. Across a year that is a second subject's worth of support.

The fourth is the late start. The same grade movement costs roughly twice as much in March as it does in October, because the same work has to be done in fewer weeks with more sessions and higher-priced specialist availability. Of every cost lever a family controls, the calendar is the strongest, and it is free to pull.

04

What providers in this market actually publish

Comparing providers is harder than it should be because three of the six pages examined in this market publish no price at all, and two of those that do quote in US dollars, a currency UAE families do not transact in. One platform's rate panel was 21 months out of date when it was read. Another publishes a schema price range that contradicts the figures in its own text.

That is the context for the table below. It compares provider models rather than brands, with a published figure attached where one exists and the month it was read. A model-level comparison is more useful than a brand argument, and it avoids the thing several competing pages do: measure themselves against an unnamed other platforms straw man.

Two columns deserve attention when you use it. The replacement column is about what happens when a tutor becomes unavailable mid-term, which is a question almost nobody asks before paying. The permit column is about whether the person teaching your child holds the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which u.ae states is granted free of charge for two years under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023.

A note on our own row. IB Gram does not publish a fixed hourly figure on these pages because the rate moves with subject, level and proximity to the exam series. The free trial lesson and the conversation after it are where a number for your child's case is quoted, and nothing is charged before that.

Why an IB hour and an IGCSE hour are not the same purchase

Published rates separate the two, and the reason is supply rather than prestige. Unitors lists IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200. The pool of tutors who have taught Cambridge 0580 Extended is large across the Gulf; the pool who have taken a student through Diploma Higher Level Chemistry, including the scientific investigation and the grade boundaries that follow, is small. Scarcity sets the price.

The structure of the work differs too. An IGCSE campaign is mostly syllabus coverage plus timed practice against a mark scheme, and it ends on a fixed day. A Diploma campaign runs across two years and carries components that sit outside the papers: the Internal Assessment in each subject, the Extended Essay at 4,000 words, and the TOK essay at 1,600 words with its exhibition. Those have internal school deadlines rather than board exam dates, and they cluster in Diploma Year 1 and the first half of Year 2.

That clustering is the budget trap families in two-curriculum households fall into. A Year 11 sibling needs hours in the spring; a Diploma Year 1 sibling needs hours in the same spring for an exploration deadline. Mapping both calendars in September is the cheapest planning anybody can do, and it usually reveals that one of the two campaigns can start earlier at a lower intensity.

On the Internal Assessment specifically, the price covers teaching and feedback and nothing else. A tutor explains the criteria, discusses method, reads a draft the student has written and says which paragraph does not meet the criterion. Nobody writes, completes or supplies the work. A provider offering a finished Internal Assessment at a price is selling a malpractice case, and one page in this market does exactly that.

06

Hidden extras: the six questions to ask before paying

  • Per hour or per lesson, and how long is a lesson?
  • Is marking between sessions inside the rate?
  • What are the cancellation terms on both sides?
  • What happens to a prepaid block if the match fails in week two?
  • Does the quoted figure include any VAT the provider charges?
  • Does the rate change in the weeks before the exam series?

Two quotes that look identical at AED 200 an hour can differ by a third once the terms are read. Ask whether the price is per hour or per lesson, and what a lesson is: a 45-minute session billed as an hour is a 33 per cent increase that never appears in a comparison. Ask whether marking between sessions is included, because a tutor who marks a full paper outside the hour is doing unpaid work that eventually gets priced in or quietly dropped.

Ask about cancellation on both sides. A family that loses a paid session for a school event has lost money; a family whose tutor cancels twice a month has lost a plan. Ask what happens to a prepaid block if the match does not work in week two, and get the answer before paying for twelve weeks. Ask whether any VAT the provider charges is included in the figure quoted, and leave the broader tax question to the Federal Tax Authority rather than to a tutoring page.

Ask about the report. A short written note after each session is normal and costs nothing; a formal monthly report sometimes carries a fee. And ask what the rate becomes in the eight weeks before the exam series, because specialist availability tightens then and some providers price that period differently.

None of these are difficult questions. The reason they are worth writing down is that they are the ones families remember not asking. A provider who answers all six without hesitating is telling you something useful about how the service is run.

07

Deciding with marks instead of feelings

The decision about how many hours to buy should be made from marked work. Take the most recent full paper or test, and look at where the marks were lost rather than at the total. Three patterns justify different spending. Scattered single marks across every question usually mean technique: command words, working shown, units. That is cheap to fix and responds to a short block.

Whole questions left blank or abandoned halfway mean missing content, which is the expensive pattern because it needs reteaching before practice helps. One or two topics consistently failing while the rest holds is the best case: a targeted block of four to six sessions on those topics often moves a grade, and then the spending stops.

Review at six weeks on the same evidence. If the pattern of loss has not changed, something in the plan is wrong, and the answer is rarely more hours at the same thing. It is a different approach or a different tutor. A family that reviews on marked papers spends less over a year than a family that reviews on how the sessions feel, because feelings lag the mark scheme by about two months.

The last thing worth costing is the end. A good plan has a point at which it stops. Writing down what the exit looks like, a grade, a topic list cleared, a paper completed in time, prevents a weekly charge becoming a permanent household subscription that nobody re-examines.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Emirates City

All lessons for this area run online, so these neighbouring communities are listed as scheduling and budgeting context. Household patterns differ enough to change how families buy hours.

Emirates City

Apartment towers off Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road with a high share of commuting parents. Single weekly sessions after 6.30pm are the common purchase, with a paper block added before the June series.

Al Nuaimiya

Dense, older and close to the Sharjah boundary. Families here ask most often about two children sharing an evening, which keeps the monthly figure closer to one subject's cost than two.

Al Jurf

Mixed zoning with several schools inside the district. Shift patterns rather than school bells shape the slot, and weekend mornings are a frequent request.

Al Rawda

Settled residential streets with long-term residents. The typical pattern is two sessions a week through Year 11, which doubles the monthly figure but shortens the total number of months.

Al Yasmeen

Villa community inland, with the school run staying inside Ajman. Earlier slots from 4.30pm are workable, and earlier slots are generally easier to secure at the lower end of a tutor's rate.

Ajman Corniche

Waterfront apartments where the evening starts late. Saturday morning hours fill first here, and weekend availability is the thing most worth checking before paying for a block.

Al Mowaihat

Villa plots across three numbered sub-districts with siblings often on different curricula. Back-to-back bookings are the usual way households here control the total.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Emirates City

Ajman and the Emirates City side

Private schools in Ajman are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, per u.ae, rather than by an emirate-level regulator. School fee levels vary widely across the emirate, which is part of why tuition budgets here differ so much between households. Students we support attend schools across this group.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the brief with a number in it

Subject, year group, board or programme, and the grade the student is at against the grade they need. That last pair is what makes a quote meaningful. A marked paper attached to the message saves a paid session of diagnosis later.

  2. 02

    Get options at different intensities

You receive tutor options with the plan shapes that fit, one hour a week or two, a term or a block, with the total each one implies. If no specialist is free at the hour you need, we say so rather than substituting someone who has not taught the specification.

  3. 03

Use the free trial as a test, not a demo

One free session, no card details taken beforehand. Judge it on whether the tutor works from your child's own marked work and names specific errors. A trial spent on introductions tells you how the paid hours will be spent.

  4. 04

Agree the plan and the exit

Fix the weekly hour, the number of weeks, and what the end looks like. Lessons run on Gulf Standard Time, so the slot you agree is the slot in Emirates City. A short written note follows each session.

  5. 05

Review on marked work at six weeks

Compare the pattern of lost marks with the one you started from. Extend, reduce or change the tutor on that evidence. This single habit is the biggest cost control available to a household buying tuition.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every figure carries its source

The AED bands on this page are attributed to the provider pages and cost table they came from, with the month they were read. Three of six competing pages in this market publish no price at all, and two quote in dollars, which is not how an Ajman household budgets.

No travel premium, because there is no travel

UAE lessons run one-to-one over live video. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in the UAE; home visits are offered only in India. The AED 180 to 500 in-home band is on the page as market context, not as a service to compare ours against.

Plans, not just rates

A quote for an hour tells a family very little. A quote for eight months of a single IGCSE subject, or twenty months of a Higher Level Diploma subject, tells them what they are actually committing to and where the rate compounds.

A stated boundary on coursework

Internal Assessment, Extended Essay and TOK support is teaching, criteria explanation and feedback on the student's own draft. Nobody writes or completes assessed work. One provider in this market sells finished Internal Assessments; that is a malpractice risk the student carries.

Permits treated as a parent's question

The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free and valid for two years under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. We explain it so you can ask any tutor, including ours, and claim no regulator approval or accreditation for IB Gram, which holds none.

An exit written into the plan

Every plan has a stated end: a grade, a cleared topic list, a completed paper under time. A weekly charge with no finish line is how tuition becomes a permanent line in a household budget nobody revisits.

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Emirates City: your questions answered

What should I budget each month for an IB or IGCSE tutor near Emirates City?+

Work from four sessions a month. At the published band for a qualified online subject tutor, AED 150 to 300 an hour, one weekly hour is roughly AED 600 to 1,200 a month. Bestimate's Dubai table gives AED 240 to 600 for budget tutors and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support, and northern-emirate rates sit at or just below Dubai levels. Diploma Higher Level hours price at the upper end because the specialist pool is small. Those are market figures from published pages read in October 2026, not IB Gram prices; ours follow the free trial.

Why is Diploma tutoring priced higher than IGCSE tutoring?+

Supply, mostly. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200, and the gap reflects how many tutors have actually taught each thing. Cambridge 0580 Extended is taught in hundreds of Gulf schools; Diploma Higher Level Chemistry with the scientific investigation and its grade boundaries is taught by far fewer people. The work differs too: a Diploma campaign runs across two years and includes the Internal Assessment, the 4,000-word Extended Essay and the 1,600-word TOK essay, all with internal school deadlines rather than exam dates.

Is it cheaper to hire a tutor who lives near Emirates City?+

Usually not, once travel is counted. In-home one-to-one visits in the UAE are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour, and the upper part of that range prices a car, fuel and forty minutes each way in the evening peak. The teaching time is identical to an online hour. What a local tutor adds is physical presence, which genuinely helps a younger or very reluctant child and adds little for a Year 10 or Diploma student who already works at a desk. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE in any case; that service runs in India only.

How many sessions a week do most families here start with?+

One, and that is usually right. A single weekly hour held across the year is the cheapest pattern that actually moves a grade, because continuity catches a drift early. Two sessions a week makes sense for one subject that is badly behind, run for eight to twelve weeks rather than a year, with one session on content and one on timed questions. Families who start with two hours across three subjects almost always cut back by December, having paid for the lesson. Decide from a marked paper rather than from a general sense that things are slipping.

What are the hidden extras that change a quote?+

Six things. Whether the price is per hour or per lesson, and how long a lesson is, since 45 minutes billed as an hour is a third more than it looks. Whether marking between sessions is inside the rate. The cancellation terms on both sides. What happens to a prepaid block if the match fails in week two. Whether any VAT the provider charges is included in the figure. And whether the rate changes in the weeks before an exam series, when specialist availability tightens. A provider who answers all six without pausing is usually the better-run one.

Do tutoring rates go up closer to the exams?+

Availability tightens and some providers price the pre-series weeks differently, so ask directly. The bigger effect is on your side of the ledger: the same grade movement bought in March costs roughly twice what it costs in October, because the work has to be compressed into fewer weeks at a higher session count. Of every cost lever a family controls, starting a term earlier is the strongest and the only free one. If you are already inside the final eight weeks, buy a defined block with a stated end date rather than an open monthly arrangement.

Can one tutor cover two subjects to save money?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking. A single tutor can reasonably cover maths and physics at IGCSE, or economics and business studies, and a two-subject arrangement saves a parent one relationship to manage rather than money on the rate. What does not work is stretching one tutor across the separate sciences at Diploma Higher Level, where each subject is its own specialism and a generalist costs more in wasted hours than a second specialist would in fees. Ask which specifications the tutor has actually taught before combining subjects.

Is a free trial really free, and what is the condition?+

One session, no charge, and no card details taken beforehand. The condition worth stating is simply that it is one session per subject, not an open run of free lessons. Use it as a test rather than a demonstration: the tutor should work from your child's own marked paper and finish by naming two or three specific errors and what the first month would address. If the hour is spent on introductions and study-skills talk, the paid hours will be spent the same way and you have learned that at no cost.

How do I compare two providers when neither publishes a price?+

Make them quote a plan rather than an hour. Ask each for the total for the same brief: one named subject, one weekly hour, from now to the exam series, including marking. Then ask the six terms questions, about lesson length, marking, cancellation, prepaid blocks, VAT and pre-exam pricing. Three of the six pages examined in this market publish no figure at all and two quote in US dollars, so a direct rate comparison is often impossible. Plan totals with stated terms are comparable; vague hourly claims are not.

What does Internal Assessment or Extended Essay support cost, and what does it include?+

It is usually sold as a block of four to six sessions tied to milestones rather than as a monthly charge, which at mid-band rates is roughly AED 1,200 to 2,700. What it includes is teaching the skill the task assesses, explaining each assessment criterion, reading a draft the student has written and saying which section does not meet the criterion, and setting a timetable so the work does not land in one weekend. What it never includes is writing, completing, rewriting or supplying the piece. A provider selling a finished Internal Assessment is selling the student a malpractice case.

Do we pay for a session the school cancels with a sports day or a trip?+

That depends entirely on the terms, which is why the cancellation question belongs before the first payment rather than after the first clash. A reasonable arrangement gives both sides a notice period and allows a reschedule inside the same week. Because our tutor pool is not geographic, rescheduling an online session is usually straightforward: there is no travel to re-plan. An in-home arrangement is harder, since a replacement has to live nearby as well as teach the subject, which is one of the quieter costs of buying local.

Which subjects give the best return for the money in Year 11?+

The ones where marks are being lost to technique rather than to missing content. Business Studies and Economics respond quickly because evaluation and diagram marks are learnable in a short block. English reading tasks respond well for the same reason. Maths and the separate sciences take longer when whole topics are missing, because reteaching has to precede practice. Look at a marked paper: scattered single marks across many questions means a cheap fix, while abandoned whole questions means a longer and more expensive campaign. Spend where the pattern says the marks are recoverable.

Is the permit a tutor needs an extra cost added to our bill in Ajman?+

The tutor needs one; it costs you nothing. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and u.ae states it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE lists the application with no fee and a two-working-day completion time. u.ae also states that tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no published schedule of amounts, so treat any figure you see online as unverified.

When should we stop paying for tuition?+

When the thing you wrote down at the start has happened. A plan without a stated exit becomes a household subscription nobody revisits, and that is the most common way families overspend on tutoring. Define the end in advance: a grade on a school assessment, a topic list cleared, a full paper completed inside the time limit. Review on marked work at six weeks and again at twelve. If the pattern of lost marks has moved and the target is met, stop, and keep the option of a short block before the next series instead of a rolling monthly commitment.
