IB Home Tutor in Emirates City

Most parents who search for an IB home tutor in Emirates City are really asking a budget question: what will this cost over a year, and what part of the bill is teaching. This page answers that first. Market rates reaching Ajman are published below with the source and the month they were read, the in-home premium is broken down line by line, and IB Gram's own position is stated plainly: lessons run one-to-one over live video, never as a visit to an Emirates City tower.

  • Every AED figure on this page names who published it and when
  • Monthly costs shown, not just an hourly rate nobody budgets in
  • Lessons run online over live video; no travel is billed to you
  • A free diagnostic lesson first, with no card details taken

IB & IGCSE in Emirates City

Work out the year first, then the hour

Hourly rates are how tutoring is advertised and monthly totals are how families actually decide. An hour at AED 200 sounds different from AED 800 a month, and different again from roughly AED 7,200 over a nine-month school year for one subject, which is the same number seen from further away. Emirates City is a high-rise community strung along Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, and a large share of households here chose it precisely because the cost of living is lower than the equivalent in Dubai. A tuition bill that creeps is a real problem, not an abstract one.

So this page starts at the other end. The figures below are market rates in AED, attributed to whoever published them and dated October 2026, arranged by what a household actually pays per month and per year rather than by tier. Then it takes the in-home premium apart, because that premium is where most of the avoidable money goes for a family in Ajman: a tutor travelling in from Sharjah or Dubai in the evening is billing the journey whether or not the invoice says so.

Delivery is stated up front so nothing on this page is read the wrong way. IB Gram teaches UAE families one-to-one online, over live video, scheduled on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. The URL you arrived on uses the phrase parents type, and the phrase is answered honestly: what in-home tuition costs in this market, what it adds, and why a family in a tower off the E311 usually gets more teaching per dirham from a screen.

The second half of the money question is less comfortable: what tuition is worth buying at all. Paying for a generalist to supervise homework in a Diploma Higher Level subject is a slow waste. Paying for four sessions a week in October when the real deadline is a May series is front-loading effort that will not survive the spring. Paying for coursework help that crosses into producing the work is worse than waste, because the risk lands on the student. Each of those has its own section below.

Nothing here is an IB Gram price list. Rates depend on the subject, the level and how many weeks remain, and a single published number would be wrong for most readers. What is published instead is the market, in enough detail that any quote, including this one, can be judged against something real rather than against a competitor's silence. Three of the six competitor pages researched for this project publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars, which no household in Ajman actually banks in.

At a glance

  • Advertised monthly packages in this market: AED 799 for eight online sessions, AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four in-home visits of two hours.
  • Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session: AED 240 to 600 budget, AED 600 to 1,200 mid, AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support.
  • A qualified subject tutor working online is published at AED 150 to 300 an hour; in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 500.
  • KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that Dubai private school fees would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, which steadies one half of an education budget but not the other.
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is free and valid for two years, so a cheap rate is not explained by permit costs.
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Emirates City families on the IB are usually at one of three stages, and the budget behaves differently at each. Primary support is cheap and optional; the Diploma is the expensive year and the one where a wrong choice of tutor costs the most.

PYPAges 3-12 · Pre-KG to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP has no external papers, so there is no mark scheme to buy practice against. Tutoring at this stage earns its money on mechanics: number bonds, written methods, reading stamina and the habit of explaining an answer. Two 30-minute sessions a week at the budget end of the market is a reasonable spend; an hour of specialist time is not what this stage needs.

At budget online rates of AED 45 to 150 an hour, two short primary sessions a week sits roughly in Bestimate's AED 240 to 600 monthly band. Emirates City parents commuting to Dubai often prefer 7:00pm for primary sessions, after dinner, which an online slot can absorb and a travelling tutor usually cannot.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

MYP subjects are marked against four criteria, each out of 8, and the criteria reward process. This is the stage where a cheap generalist stops working, because the problem is rarely the content: it is that the student is not writing to the criterion strands. One session a week with somebody who has read the subject guide beats three with somebody who has not.

Mid-market online rates of AED 150 to 300 an hour put a weekly MYP session at roughly AED 600 to 1,200 a month, which matches Bestimate's middle band. Most Emirates City families start with one subject here rather than two, and add the second only after a reporting cycle shows whether it is working.

DPAges 16-19 · Grades 11-12

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS, with an internally assessed component in each subject worth roughly a fifth to a quarter of the grade. This is where specialist rates of AED 200 to 450 and above apply, and where they are usually justified: the Higher Level papers are not teachable by somebody meeting them for the first time.

A two-year Diploma plan is the largest single number in this page's tables, and it is also the one most families never calculate before starting. Running one HL subject weekly across both years at mid-market rates lands in the AED 10,000 to 20,000 range in total, which is worth knowing in Grade 11 rather than in Grade 12.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Subject scarcity is the main thing that moves a Diploma rate, so this grid is written with cost in mind: where the teaching is widely available, where it is not, and what the money is actually fixing.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The most commonly requested Diploma subject and therefore the most competitively priced. Marks go missing on Paper 1, the non-calculator paper, where students fluent with a GDC cannot factorise by hand. That is a drilling problem, which means progress per dirham is high and sessions can often step down to fortnightly once fluency returns.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics led, with the GDC central. Students lose marks reporting a regression output without interpreting it in context. HL AI adds graph theory and matrices, often taught late, which is why AI HL support booked in the spring costs more per unit of benefit than the same support booked in autumn.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms account for most of the losses, with data-based questions catching students who state a trend without a cause. A scarce subject at HL in the Northern Emirates, so expect the upper half of the specialist band rather than the mid-market rate.

Physics

HL and SL

Unit errors, gradients read instead of calculated, and explanation questions answered with equations. Scarce at HL locally. The cheapest effective intervention is usually a short paper-focused block rather than a year of weekly sessions, because the failure is technique more often than content.

Biology

HL and SL

Looks learnable and punishes imprecision: a process named but not sequenced, a diagram labelled but not explained. Database and statistics questions catch students who have never calculated a standard deviation by hand. Widely available, so mid-market pricing is realistic.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams carry a large share of the marks and most students draw them unlabelled. HL adds quantitative work. The internal assessment commentaries need genuinely recent articles and a respected word count, which is the part families most often try to buy and should not.

Business Management

HL and SL

Marks come from applying a tool to the specific case rather than describing the tool. HL adds the pre-released case study, which rewards early structured reading. Because the pre-release is published well ahead, support bought early is materially cheaper per mark than support bought in the last fortnight.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is where unprepared students summarise instead of arguing about how a text works. The Individual Oral needs a global issue chosen early. Widely available and therefore keenly priced, but the quality spread between tutors is wider here than in any science.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

TOK is often bought late and in a panic, which is the most expensive way to buy it. The essay responds to prescribed titles and rewards a clear line of argument over breadth. A small number of sessions early in the cycle does more than a block of them a fortnight before the deadline.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, with the cost logic for each stated rather than implied. All run online, one-to-one, over live video, so no part of the fee is a journey.

Weekly one-to-one across a term

One subject, one tutor, the same slot each week. At mid-market online rates this is the AED 600 to 1,200 a month shape, and it is the right spend when a topic sequence has broken down rather than a single test having gone badly. Its value comes from continuity: the tutor does not spend the first ten minutes rebuilding context.

  • 60 or 90 minutes, fixed weekly on Gulf Standard Time
  • Written notes after each session naming the next target
  • Reviewed against the school's own reporting cycle, not a generic scheme
  • Can step down to fortnightly once the gap closes, which lowers the bill

Short paper-focused block

Four to six weeks aimed at one paper, with timed questions marked to the published scheme. This is usually the cheapest effective intervention available, because it converts knowledge the student already has into marks rather than teaching new content. Families who book this instead of a year of weekly sessions often spend a third as much.

  • Two or three sessions a week for four to six weeks
  • Every answer marked against the official mark scheme
  • An error log grouped by cause, not by topic
  • Most often used in the run-up to mocks or a series

Coursework process coaching

For the Internal Assessment or Extended Essay, the work is narrowing a research question, planning a method, reading the criterion descriptors and giving written feedback on drafts the student has written. The student writes every word. Priced by the block rather than the hour because the useful work is spread across weeks of drafting.

  • Research question and method reviewed before writing starts
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Word count and citation discipline checked against the subject guide
  • Nothing produced on the student's behalf, at any point

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Emirates City

01

What a year of IB tuition actually costs an Emirates City household

Take the hourly rate out of the conversation for a moment. A household budget runs monthly, and a school year runs roughly nine teaching months with two shorter terms around it. One subject, one hour a week, at the middle of the market works out at four or five sessions a month and nine months of them. That is the number worth knowing before the first lesson, because it is the number that gets quietly doubled when a second subject is added in February.

The published monthly estimates make the shape clear. Bestimate's survey puts a weekly one-hour session at AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Advertised packages in this market sit at AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four in-home visits of two hours. Note what that second comparison really is: eight hours of teaching against eight hours of teaching, at roughly double the price, with the difference being a car.

Against that, the other half of an Ajman education budget is relatively stable. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year under the emirate's second economic incentives package; Ajman fees are set under a different regime but the direction of travel in the sector is public information a parent can look up. Tuition, by contrast, is uncapped and entirely discretionary, which is exactly why it deserves a planned annual figure rather than a monthly drift.

The table below converts the published hourly bands into the monthly and annual numbers a household actually recognises. Every figure is derived from rates read in October 2026 and attributed in the section above; none of it is an IB Gram price.

02

The five ways Emirates City families overpay

  • Buy a diagnosis before buying a term of hours.
  • Match the tier to the task: supervision is a budget-tier job, Higher Level is not.
  • Ask for a stated number of sessions with an end date, not an open subscription.
  • Let the intensity rise towards the series rather than peaking in October.

None of these is a scam. They are all ordinary decisions that look sensible at the time and cost a family several thousand dirhams across a Diploma. The first is buying hours instead of buying a diagnosis. A family worried about Chemistry books two sessions a week in September, and in January the student is no better, because nobody ever established whether the problem was recall, method, command-term reading or timing. One diagnostic session that answers that question is worth more than a term of unfocused ones.

The second is paying a specialist rate for supervision. Watching a teenager do homework is a real service and it is worth the budget tier, not the specialist tier. Paying AED 300 an hour for somebody to sit while past papers are attempted silently is the most common invisible waste in this market. The third is the opposite error: paying a budget rate for Higher Level content. A tutor meeting Higher Level Physics for the first time alongside your child is being paid to learn, and the bill arrives twice.

The fourth is front-loading. Four sessions a week in October for a May series burns the student's appetite and the family's budget before the period when practice compounds. Effort should rise towards the series, not peak in the first term. The fifth is buying coursework help that drifts into coursework production, which is both the most expensive thing in this market and the only one that can cost a student their Diploma rather than their money.

The cheapest correction for all five is the same: a free diagnostic lesson, a written statement of what is actually wrong, and a plan with a stated number of sessions and an end date. If a provider cannot give you that in writing before payment, the quote is not comparable to anything.

03

How a tuition quote is actually built, line by line

Two quotes for the same subject can differ by a factor of four, and the difference is rarely teaching quality alone. A quote is assembled from the tutor's own rate, the provider's margin, the travel if anybody is travelling, the scarcity of the subject at the level required, and the number of weeks left before the assessment that matters. Asking which of those five is moving the number is a fair question and a revealing one.

Scarcity is the component families underestimate. Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches is taught in almost every Diploma school, so the pool is deep and the price is competitive. Chemistry at Higher Level, or Economics with its internal assessment commentaries, is taught by a handful of teachers in the whole emirate, several of whom cannot tutor their own school's students. In Abu Dhabi, ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar private and charter school staff from paid tuition of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct that bars the same. The nearest qualified teacher is frequently the one person unavailable.

Timing is the next component. Rates in this market firm up as a series approaches, for the ordinary reason that demand rises and the same tutors cannot teach more hours. A family booking Higher Level support in the spring is competing for capacity; the same family booking in September is not. That is a discount available to anybody willing to plan, and it costs nothing to take.

The last component is what the provider does when the match fails. A replacement at no extra charge is worth real money, and in a geographic model it is frequently impossible: in Ajman, the tutor who does not fit is often the only one who could reach you. The table sets out what to ask for against each line of a quote.

WHAT MOVES A QUOTE, AND WHAT TO ASK

04

What the in-home premium buys for an Emirates City apartment

In-home tuition has real advantages and a page that denies them is selling rather than advising. A tutor in the room reads body language, can take a book out of a student's hands, and cannot be muted. For a young or easily distracted child, that is worth paying for, and for some families it is the only format that works at all.

What it costs in Emirates City specifically is reach and reliability, and a measurable share of the fee. The towers sit on the E311 corridor, which is fast at 2pm and slow at 6pm. A tutor coming from Sharjah or Dubai is adding an hour or more of round trip to a one-hour lesson, and that time is priced in somewhere. The published gap is the evidence: a qualified tutor working online is advertised at AED 150 to 300 an hour, while in-home one-to-one is quoted at AED 180 to 350 in the Bestimate survey and up to AED 500 by independent home tutors.

Then there is fragility. The in-home pool willing to drive to a specific Ajman tower on a weekday evening is small, and it shrinks again once a particular Higher Level subject is required. A cancelled visit is a cancelled week, because there is no second person to call. An online slot has a bench behind it.

IB Gram offers only the online format in the UAE, and no page here will tell an Emirates City parent otherwise. In-home visits are an India-only service. The comparison below is written so that a family choosing in-home anyway can at least see what they are buying and price it properly.

05

Tutoring cost in context: fees, exam entry and the two-year Diploma

Tuition is the only part of an education budget with no published ceiling, which is why it should be sized against the parts that do have one. Dubai's private sector gives the clearest public picture: 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, with the UK curriculum at 37 per cent of enrolment, Indian at 26, US at 14 and the International Baccalaureate at 7. KHDA then confirmed on 22 May 2026 that fees would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year under an incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total.

Ajman sits under a different regime, with private schools supervised by the federal Ministry of Education rather than by KHDA, and fee levels in the emirate are materially lower than the Dubai equivalent. That is part of the reason Emirates City exists as a community. It also means tuition can swallow a larger proportion of an Ajman education budget than a Dubai family would notice, simply because the base against which it is compared is smaller.

The other costs nobody budgets for are examination and administrative. A private candidate pays entry fees through a centre rather than through a school. A resit entry after results is a second entry fee. Equivalency and attestation have their own official channels and their own charges, set by the authority rather than by anybody selling tuition. None of those is large individually and together they land in the same term as the heaviest tuition month of the Diploma.

The point of the table is sequencing, not alarm. Seen two years out, a Diploma plan is a series of decisions with dates on them. Seen three weeks out, it is an emergency, and emergencies are the most expensive way to buy anything.

Is a cheaper tutor cheaper? The permit question

There is a version of the budget conversation that ends badly, and it starts with the assumption that the cheapest available person is simply a less polished version of the expensive one. Sometimes that is true. Sometimes the difference is that one of them is operating within the rules and the other is not.

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount is quoted here.

Read that against the price list and the conclusion is awkward for the cheap end of the market. The permit costs nothing and takes two working days, so a low rate cannot be explained by permit costs being avoided. It can, however, be explained by the permit not existing, and a family cannot tell from an advertisement. The question is one sentence long and worth asking every time.

A separate point for completeness: a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. That is a different thing from an individual's tuition permit, and IB Gram holds neither. Nothing on this page should be read as a claim of approval by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson.

The most overpriced product in this market is coursework help

  • Teaching criteria, command terms and content: legitimate, and the thing worth paying for.
  • Written feedback on a draft the student wrote: legitimate.
  • Producing text, data or diagrams for submission: never, at any price.
  • A promised score, or money back against a result: not something anybody can honestly sell.

The Diploma is roughly a quarter internally assessed, which makes coursework both the most commercially attractive thing to sell and the most dangerous thing to buy. One page found during the research for this project sells completed Internal Assessments outright at AED 3,750. That is a remarkable amount of money for something that, if detected, costs the student the Diploma rather than costing the seller anything at all.

The legitimate version of this service is cheaper and more useful. A tutor may teach the subject content, explain each assessment criterion and what its descriptors actually demand, help narrow a research question, review a method for feasibility and ethics, and give written feedback on a draft the student has already written. A tutor must never write, redraft or complete an Internal Assessment, an Extended Essay, a TOK essay or any assessed coursework, and must not supply text for the student to paste in.

There is a related boundary on materials. No tutor may reproduce or distribute IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes, grade-boundary tables or subject guides as downloads. The correct behaviour is to reference the official source and link to it, which is why there are no attachments on this page. Reproducing assessment material is a copyright matter, and for unreleased material it is a malpractice exposure.

The third boundary is the one that affects price most directly: no tutor can promise a grade, so no tutor can price one. Any provider selling a promised score, a promised improvement or money back against an outcome is either misunderstanding how grade boundaries are set or hoping you will not ask. What tuition reliably changes is the amount and the quality of deliberate practice, and the gap between what a student knows and what reaches the page.

08

When tuition money is well spent: the Diploma calendar

Spend follows the calendar or it is wasted. The fixed point for most UAE Diploma students is the May session, and everything a family pays for should be sequenced backwards from it: internal coursework deadlines set by the school, the mock window, the final months of timed paper practice. Grade 11 is for building; Grade 12 autumn is for coursework; Grade 12 spring is for papers. A budget that ignores that order buys the right hours at the wrong time.

A note on honesty about dates, because it affects planning. No IB session or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself; the board's own site returns an error to automated checking. What can be said safely is that UAE schools sit the May session and that a November session exists as an alternative route. Any specific IB date should come from your school's Diploma coordinator or from ibo.org directly. A tutoring page is not a timetable.

For the IGCSE side of a household, the sourced position is clearer. Cambridge runs June and November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October, and allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones; the board states it is essential to use the correct zone timetable and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong version was used. Cambridge's February/March series is offered in India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November, with the November 2026 final timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reaching students on 22 January 2026.

The practical budgeting consequence is simple. Book the diagnosis early, keep the autumn light, and reserve the heavier spend for the eight to twelve weeks before the papers, when timed practice marked against a real scheme produces more marks per dirham than anything else available.

Where we tutor

Emirates City and the Ajman communities around it

Cost behaves differently across Ajman depending on how far a tutor would have to drive and when a parent gets home. The notes below are about that, not about scenery.

Al Alia

The district immediately around Emirates City's towers, close to Ajman University. Reasonable local supply of general tutors, which keeps budget-tier rates genuinely competitive, though Diploma Higher Level options remain thin.

Al Nuaimiya

Ajman's densest older district and the emirate's largest concentration of tutor advertising. Expect the lowest in-home quotes in the emirate here, and the widest quality spread, so the syllabus question matters more than the price.

Al Rawda

Villa districts numbered 1 to 3, heavily Sharjah-commuting. In-home quotes rise here because the evening drive is longer, and sessions rarely start before 6:30pm whichever format is chosen.

Al Jurf

Institutional and industrial belt with Ajman's hospital and colleges nearby. Shorter school runs than the coastal communities, so a 4:45pm start is realistic and an in-home visit carries a smaller travel premium.

Al Mowaihat

Villa districts 1 to 3 along Sheikh Ammar Road, feeding several of the emirate's larger private schools. Mid-afternoon sessions are more achievable here than anywhere else in Ajman.

Al Zorah

Low-density waterfront community on the northern coast with no school inside it. The highest in-home travel premium in the emirate and the thinnest local specialist supply.

Ajman Corniche

Seafront apartment towers in the old city. Short school runs but small flats, so the cost of a quiet room for a live video lesson is a scheduling problem rather than a money one.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Emirates City

Ajman city schools, the Emirates City catchment

Most Emirates City children are driven inland or into the old city, 15 to 25 minutes depending on the hour. Fees in this cluster sit well below the Dubai equivalent, which is part of why families choose Ajman, and it changes the share of the education budget that tuition can reasonably take.

Sharjah and Dubai, for the commuter households

A significant number of Emirates City parents already drive to Dubai or Sharjah for work and take a child to school on the way. That makes a late online slot far easier to keep than an in-home visit timed to a return journey on the E311.

  • Australian International School Sharjah
  • Wesgreen International School
  • Emirates National School Sharjah

Schools are named to describe the environment an Emirates City student studies in. No affiliation, partnership or endorsement is implied, and each name should be checked against the regulator's own school listing.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say what you want it to cost

A budget stated up front produces a better plan than a budget discovered later. Tell us the subject, the level, the school and what you are willing to spend across a term, and the answer will be a format that fits it rather than an open-ended subscription that does not.

  2. 02

Take the free diagnostic lesson first

The first session is a diagnosis, not a sales call, and no card details are taken for it. The tutor works through real paper questions to establish whether marks are going on recall, method, command-term reading or timing, and you receive a written summary naming the first three targets.

  3. 03

Agree a session count and an end date

Open-ended tuition is how a budget drifts. A plan with a stated number of sessions and a review date is comparable to other quotes and easy to stop. For most Emirates City families that is a term at a time, reviewed against the school's own reporting cycle.

  4. 04

Book a slot that survives the E311

Sessions run on Gulf Standard Time and are set around the commute rather than against it. In Emirates City that frequently means 7:00pm or 8:00pm, once the second parent is home. Because lessons are online, no travel time is added to either side of the slot.

  5. 05

Step down when the gap closes

The aim is fewer sessions, not more. Once the diagnosed gap closes, weekly work can usually move to fortnightly, or stop entirely until the next pressure point. A provider that never proposes reducing the frequency is managing its revenue rather than your child's marks.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Prices you can audit, not a range with no source

Every AED figure on this page names who published it and the month it was read. Three of the six competitor pages researched for this project publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars, which is not a currency an Ajman family transacts in.

No journey inside the fee

Lessons run online over live video, so none of what you pay is a tutor's drive up the E311. The published gap between online and in-home rates in this market is the clearest single argument for the format, and it is set out in a table rather than asserted.

A diagnosis before a subscription

The free first lesson exists to find out what is actually wrong, because the most common waste in this market is buying hours against an undiagnosed problem. The written summary afterwards is yours whether or not you book anything further.

A replacement costs nothing

If the match is wrong, a different tutor takes over with the notes already written. In a geographic model that is often impossible, because the tutor who does not fit may be the only one who could reach an Emirates City tower on a weekday evening.

Stated limits on coursework and on claims

Teaching, criterion explanation and feedback on the student's own draft: yes. Producing any part of an Internal Assessment or Extended Essay: never. No promised grades, no self-published ratings, and no claim of approval from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson.

Scheduling built for an Ajman commute

A large share of Ajman households work in Dubai or Sharjah, so useful slots here start later than in Abu Dhabi. Sessions are set accordingly and can move to post-Iftar timing through Ramadan rather than being quietly dropped for a month.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Emirates City: your questions answered

What does a full year of IB tuition cost a family in Emirates City?+

Work it from the monthly figure. Bestimate's survey puts a weekly one-hour session at AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Across nine teaching months that is roughly AED 2,200 to 5,400, AED 5,400 to 10,800, or AED 9,000 to 18,000 and above for one subject. Two subjects doubles it. The figure most families never calculate first is the two-year Diploma total for a single Higher Level subject, which lands in the AED 10,000 to 20,000 range.

Is an AED 799 online package better value than an AED 1,699 in-home package?+

Compare hours, not headline prices. The advertised online package is eight sessions a month; the in-home package is four visits of two hours, which is also eight hours. So the same teaching time is being offered at roughly double the price, and the difference is largely the journey. That premium buys a tutor physically in the room, which genuinely matters for a young or easily distracted student. For Diploma paper work, where most of the session is a question, a mark scheme and a shared screen, it buys very little.

Why do quotes for the same IB subject vary so much across Ajman?+

Five things move the number: the tutor's own rate, the provider's margin, travel, how scarce the subject is at that level, and how many weeks are left before the assessment. Scarcity is the one families underestimate. Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches is taught in nearly every Diploma school, so the pool is deep and pricing is competitive. Chemistry at Higher Level is taught by a handful of teachers in the emirate, several of whom cannot tutor their own school's students. Ask which of the five is moving your quote.

Is an Ajman tuition rate quoted inclusive of VAT or not?+

Ask the provider directly and get the answer in writing, because it changes what you are comparing. This page deliberately does not state how UAE tax rules treat tuition fees, since that position needs a Federal Tax Authority citation rather than a tutoring company's summary, and a wrong answer here would be worse than no answer. What is reasonable to expect from any provider is a clear statement of whether a quoted AED figure is inclusive or exclusive, and a tax registration number if one is held.

How many sessions a week does a Diploma student in Emirates City really need?+

Most start with one per subject and should. One well-targeted weekly hour, with work done between sessions, beats three unfocused ones and costs a third as much. The sensible pattern is light in Grade 11 and the autumn of Grade 12 while coursework is the priority, rising to two or three sessions a week for the eight to twelve weeks before the papers. Front-loading four sessions a week in October burns both the student's appetite and the budget before the period when practice actually compounds.

Can one tutor cover two IB subjects to save money?+

Sometimes, and it is worth asking, but check the level first. A tutor can credibly cover two Standard Level subjects in a related group, or Mathematics and Physics at Standard Level. Two Higher Level subjects from different groups is a much stronger claim and should be tested with specific questions about papers and recent teaching. The saving is usually smaller than expected, because the rate follows the harder subject. Where it genuinely helps is scheduling: one relationship, one slot pattern, one set of notes.

Is a cheap university-student tutor a false economy for Higher Level?+

For Higher Level content, usually yes. A tutor meeting Higher Level Physics for the first time alongside your child is being paid to learn the course, and you pay twice: once for the sessions and again for the term that produced nothing. Where a budget-tier tutor is genuinely the right buy is supervision and routine: sitting with a student through timed practice, keeping the schedule, checking work was done. That is a real service worth the budget rate of AED 45 to 150 an hour, not the specialist rate.

What does an in-home tutor actually add for an apartment in Emirates City?+

Physical presence, and that is not nothing. A tutor in the room reads body language, can take a book out of a student's hands and cannot be muted. What it costs is a measurable share of the fee and a fragile schedule. Emirates City sits on the E311 corridor, fast at 2pm and slow at 6pm, so a tutor from Sharjah or Dubai adds an hour or more of round trip. The published rate gap, AED 150 to 300 online against AED 180 to 500 in-home, is that journey.

Do tutoring rates in this market rise closer to the exam session?+

Yes, for the ordinary reason that demand rises and the same tutors cannot teach more hours. A family booking Higher Level support in the spring is competing for scarce capacity; the same family booking in September is not. That makes early booking a genuine discount available to anybody willing to plan, and it costs nothing to take. It also means a quote given in October should not be assumed to hold in March, which is a fair thing to ask a provider to confirm in writing.

Would a small group be cheaper for several Emirates City families on the same subject?+

Per student, yes, and for exam technique a group of two to four can work well. The requirement is that the students are on the same syllabus code, the same tier or level and roughly the same starting point, which is harder to arrange in Ajman than in Dubai because the local cohort for any one Higher Level option is small. What a group cannot do is follow one student's specific gaps, so it is a poor fit where the diagnosis has identified an individual topic sequence that has broken down.

What should I send when asking three providers for an IB quote?+

Send the same five things to each, or the quotes will not be comparable: the subject and level, the syllabus or programme, the school, the series the student is working towards, and the number of weeks you want to cover. Then ask each provider the same four questions: which syllabus did the proposed tutor last teach, is travel inside the rate, does the rate change closer to the series, and what happens in week three if the match is wrong. The spread in the answers is more informative than the spread in the prices.

Does a tutor without a MoHRE permit charge less, and does it matter?+

The permit is free of charge and valid for two years, with a two-working-day completion time listed on MoHRE's own service page, so a low rate cannot be explained by avoiding a permit cost. It can be explained by the permit not existing. Individuals offering private tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published. Private tutoring in the UAE is not unregulated and a permit is not optional. Asking to see it takes one sentence.

What happens to our money if we stop after one lesson?+

At IB Gram the first diagnostic lesson is free and no card details are taken to book it, so stopping after it costs nothing and you keep the written summary of what the tutor found. For any provider, the question worth asking before payment is whether sessions are bought in blocks, whether unused sessions are refundable or transferable, and how much notice a cancellation needs. Get those three answers in writing. A provider that cannot state them is selling a subscription rather than a plan.

Which IB subjects cost the most to tutor, and why?+

Scarcity sets the price more than difficulty does. Higher Level Chemistry and Physics, Economics with its internal assessment commentaries, and minority languages sit at the top of the band in the Northern Emirates because very few teachers locally cover them, and some of those are barred from tutoring their own school's students. Mathematics and English sit lower because almost every Diploma school teaches them, so the pool is deep. Specialist IB and IGCSE rates were published at AED 270 by TutorChase and AED 200 to 450 and above by Bestimate.

Is Extended Essay or Internal Assessment support priced differently from weekly tuition?+

It usually is, and it should be, because the useful work is spread across weeks of drafting rather than delivered in a fixed hour. Block pricing is normal and reasonable. What is not reasonable is paying for the work itself: a page found during research for this project sells completed Internal Assessments at AED 3,750, which is both a large sum and an academic malpractice risk carried entirely by the student. Legitimate support is criterion explanation, research-question narrowing, method review and written feedback on the student's own drafts.

Get the diagnosis free, then decide what to spend

If the real question is what this will cost across a year, the cheapest way to answer it is to find out what is actually wrong first. The diagnostic lesson is free, no card details are taken, and the written summary of where the marks are going is yours either way. Tell us the subject, the level, the school, the series being worked towards and the budget you have in mind, and the plan that comes back will have a session count and an end date on it rather than an open subscription. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, timed around the drive back up the E311 to Emirates City.
