IGCSE Home Tutor in Emirates City

Parents searching for an IGCSE home tutor in Emirates City are usually asking one question: is there anybody within driving distance of this tower cluster who has actually taught the syllabus my child sits? Emirates City sits off Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road on the Ajman side, and the honest answer is that the pool of Cambridge and Edexcel subject specialists living nearby is small. IB Gram answers it differently. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, with a tutor chosen for the syllabus code rather than the postcode.

  • Matched by syllabus code: Cambridge 0580 or Pearson 4MA1, not just maths
  • One-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time
  • Private schools in Ajman are overseen by the federal Ministry of Education
  • No home visits in the UAE: that service runs only in India

IB & IGCSE in Emirates City

Why proximity is the wrong thing to shop for

Emirates City is a dense cluster of residential towers on the Ajman side of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, close to the Ajman-Sharjah boundary. Most households here have at least one parent commuting to Sharjah or Dubai, and children are spread across British, Indian and American curriculum schools in three emirates. That spread is the reason a search for an IGCSE home tutor in Emirates City rarely ends well. A tutor who lives ten minutes away may be excellent at Year 9 maths and have never opened a Cambridge 0580 Extended paper.

The syllabus code is the thing that decides whether a tutor is useful. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580 and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A 4MA1 cover overlapping content and assess it differently. Cambridge Extended candidates sit a paper without a calculator; Edexcel allows a calculator in both papers of 4MA1. A student drilled for the wrong one walks into the hall with the wrong habits. The same applies across the sciences, where Cambridge Physics 0625 splits theory and practical across three paper slots and Pearson 4PH1 does not.

So the question worth asking is not who is nearby. It is who has marked, taught or examined the exact specification printed on your child's exam timetable, and whether that person is free at the hour your child can concentrate. Once you ask it that way, geography stops being an advantage and starts being a constraint. A family in Emirates City choosing from tutors within a twenty-minute drive is choosing from a handful of people. A family choosing online is choosing from specialists across the UAE and beyond.

IB Gram is a tutor-matching platform, not a tuition centre. There is no office in Ajman, no branch in Sharjah, and no tutor who will arrive at a tower lobby in Emirates City. Home visits are a service IB Gram runs in India only. For UAE families, every lesson is one-to-one over live video, with a shared whiteboard, the student's own past papers on screen, and a recording the student can replay before a test.

This page answers the proximity question properly, then gives you the things the search results around it usually skip: what IGCSE tuition actually costs across the Ajman and Sharjah market in AED, which exam series a candidate registered in the UAE sits, what the Ministry of Education counts for an equivalency file, whether a private tutor needs a permit, and where the line sits between help and malpractice on assessed coursework.

Read it with your child's timetable next to you. If the subject codes on that timetable do not match the ones a prospective tutor talks about, you have learned something more useful than a driving distance.

At a glance

  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel both run in Ajman schools; the codes differ and so does the preparation
  • Ajman private schools sit under the federal Ministry of Education rather than KHDA or ADEK
  • Market rates for in-home visits carry a travel premium that buys no extra teaching
  • A UAE candidate sits the June and November Cambridge series; February and March are India-only
  • Five IGCSE subjects at grade E or 3 is the figure the equivalency rule names, Arabic and Islamic Education excluded
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Families around Emirates City send children to schools running several British-track routes. These are the ones that matter for an IGCSE search, with what each one means for a student living on this side of Ajman.

IGCSEAges 14-16 - Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

The two-year course most British-curriculum schools in Ajman and Sharjah run to the end of Year 11. Subjects are graded 9-1 or A*-G depending on the syllabus, and most carry a Core and an Extended tier. Core caps the available grade at C, which is the single most consequential decision a Year 10 parent makes, because a capped tier closes off an A Level route in that subject.

Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and publishes a separate timetable for each. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version for your zone and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. A family in Emirates City with children at two schools in two emirates may be looking at two different zone timetables.

Int GCSEAges 14-16 - Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The other British-track option in this part of the UAE, with codes that start with a numeral: Mathematics A is 4MA1, Physics 4PH1, Chemistry 4CH1, Biology 4BI1, English Language A 4EA1. Papers are linear in most subjects, and the calculator rules and formula sheets differ from Cambridge in ways that change how a student should revise.

Pearson runs International GCSE in May/June and November each year. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students the following day, while November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Always open the live timetable on the Pearson site rather than trusting a date repeated on a tutoring page.

Lower SecAges 11-14 - Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary

The three years before IGCSE, where the Core-or-Extended decision is quietly made. Checkpoint tests run in March, May and October and give a school a benchmark rather than a certificate. Families who start support in Year 9 rather than Year 11 are usually the ones who keep the Extended tier open in maths and the sciences.

In Ajman the practical reason to start early is scheduling. Many households here have a parent driving to Dubai or Sharjah daily, so weekday evenings fill quickly once a child reaches Year 11 and school commitments stack up. A Year 8 or Year 9 slot is easier to protect and costs less per year of progress than a crisis block of lessons in the spring term.

AS/AAges 16-18 - Years 12-13

AS and A Level, the next step

Where IGCSE grades stop being a report-card line and start being an entry requirement. Most schools set a grade threshold for A Level entry in a subject, usually a 6 or 7 at IGCSE for maths and the sciences, and that threshold is why a Core tier decision in Year 10 matters two years later.

The Ministry of Education equivalency rule for British-curriculum students names one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, alongside five accredited IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3. Arabic and Islamic Education are not counted among those five.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Requests from this part of Ajman cluster around maths, the separate sciences and English, with Business and Economics rising in Year 11. Each entry names the syllabus and where marks are commonly lost.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580)

Core and Extended

Extended candidates face a paper with no calculator, which exposes weak number sense that a calculator has been hiding since Year 8. Marks go missing on bounds, on vectors, and on multi-step probability where the method mark is available but the working is not shown.

Mathematics A (Pearson 4MA1)

Foundation and Higher

A calculator is permitted in both papers, so the examiner tests structure instead of arithmetic. The recurring loss is in trigonometry beyond right-angled triangles and in questions that ask for an exact answer where a rounded decimal scores nothing.

Additional Mathematics (0606)

Single tier

Taken by students heading for A Level Maths, usually alongside 0580. It introduces calculus and permutations early, and the common failure is treating it as harder 0580 rather than a different course with its own notation demands.

Physics (Cambridge 0625)

Core and Extended

Theory carries the bulk of the grade and the practical component is assessed either by a timed practical test or by the alternative-to-practical paper. Students lose marks on graph work, on describing a method precisely enough to repeat, and on units in compound quantities.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620)

Core and Extended

Organic chemistry and mole calculations account for most of the gap between a 6 and an 8. The alternative-to-practical paper rewards students who have thought about apparatus choice and sources of error, which is exactly what a crowded school lab rarely has time to teach.

Biology (Cambridge 0610)

Core and Extended

A content-heavy syllabus where the examiner pays for precision, not volume. Answers that say a plant grows faster rather than naming the limiting factor earn nothing, and the data-response questions are where strong students quietly drop grades.

English as a First Language (0500)

Single tier

Two papers of equal weight, one reading and one directed writing and composition, with a coursework route available at some schools. Reading marks are lost on the summary question, where students copy phrasing instead of compressing it in their own words.

English as a Second Language (0510 / 0511)

Single tier

The common entry for students whose home language is not English. The syllabus choice decides whether speaking is endorsed separately or counted in the overall grade, which changes how much oral practice is worth in the final term.

Business Studies (0450)

Single tier

Case-study questions carry the grade and the examiner rewards application to the stimulus business, not textbook definitions. Evaluation marks are the ones most Ajman students leave on the table, because a judgement without a justification scores half.

Economics (0455)

Single tier

Diagrams are marks. A labelled, correctly shifted curve earns credit before a word of analysis is written, and the frequent loss is in questions asking for the effect on a specific group rather than on the economy in general.

Computer Science (0478)

Single tier

Pseudocode conventions matter more than students expect, and the practical programming section rewards a candidate who can trace a loop by hand. Binary, hexadecimal and data-representation questions are reliable marks that get neglected until the final weeks.

Arabic as a Foreign Language (0544)

Single tier

Taken by non-Arabic-speaking students in UAE schools where Arabic is a mandated subject alongside the licensed curriculum. Progress depends on consistent short sessions rather than long ones, and on reading unseen passages aloud with a tutor who corrects pronunciation.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three delivery shapes cover almost every request from this part of Ajman. All three run over live video; none of them involves anyone arriving at your building.

Weekly one-to-one by syllabus code

The default. One subject, one tutor, one fixed hour a week through the school year, with the tutor working to the specification your child is entered for rather than a generic scheme. The hour is fixed deliberately: a slot that moves every week is the one that quietly disappears in April.

  • Tutor matched to 0580, 4MA1, 0625 or whichever code is on the timetable
  • Shared whiteboard with the student's own past papers on screen
  • Session recording available for revision before a school test
  • Written note to the parent after each lesson

Two-subject evening block

Common in villa communities inland from Emirates City where siblings study different subjects. Two consecutive sessions on the same evening, either two subjects for one child or one subject each for two children, which keeps the household disruption to a single window instead of three.

  • Back-to-back hours on one evening, same weekday each week
  • Useful for a maths and physics pairing in Year 11
  • One parent conversation covering both sessions
  • Separate tutors where the subjects need different specialists

Final-term paper clinic

A short, intense block in the weeks before a June or November series. The work is almost entirely timed questions under exam conditions, marked against the published mark scheme, with the tutor diagnosing the pattern of loss rather than reteaching content the student already holds.

  • Timed sections rather than full papers early on
  • Mark-scheme language drilled until it is automatic
  • A written list of the three errors costing the most marks
  • Scheduled around the school's own mock timetable

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Emirates City

01

What a parent in Emirates City is actually asking

The literal question behind this search is whether somebody qualified lives close enough to come to the flat. The useful answer has two halves. First: the number of Cambridge and Edexcel subject specialists resident in Ajman is small, and almost none of them are free at 5pm on a weekday. Second: proximity was never the thing that made a tutor effective. Syllabus fluency was.

Consider what a parent really wants from the hour. They want somebody who recognises the difference between a 0580 Extended non-calculator paper and a 4MA1 Higher paper where a calculator is allowed throughout. They want somebody who knows that the Cambridge alternative-to-practical paper tests apparatus reasoning rather than lab technique. They want the tutor to have seen fifty students make the same mistake on bounds and to know which three sentences fix it. None of that correlates with a driving distance from Emirates City.

What proximity does buy is a specific, limited thing: a physical presence in the room for a child who will not otherwise sit down. That is a real benefit and worth naming honestly. It is also the only one, and it is purchased at a travel premium. For most families around here the better trade is a specialist on screen at a fixed hour, with the parent in the next room for the first fortnight until the routine holds.

IB Gram does not send a tutor to any address in the UAE. Home visits are offered only in India. For a family in Emirates City, the service is one-to-one tuition over live video, run on Gulf Standard Time, with the tutor chosen for the specification rather than the neighbourhood.

02

Proximity, travel time and what the premium buys

  • Rate bands are market observations from published provider pages, not an IB Gram price list
  • The travel premium pays for presence, not for additional teaching time
  • IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; that service runs in India only
  • A free trial lesson is the cheapest way to test syllabus fluency before committing

Put the three realistic options side by side and the picture clears quickly. An in-home visit in the northern emirates carries a travel cost whether or not it appears as a line on the invoice. A tutor crossing from Sharjah to Emirates City in the evening peak is giving up forty minutes each way, and that time is priced into the hourly rate. The student gets the same sixty minutes of teaching either way.

Group tuition at a centre is cheaper per hour and works for a confident student who needs pace rather than diagnosis. It fails the student who is two topics behind, because a centre class cannot stop for one child. Online one-to-one sits between them on price and above both on specificity, and it removes the failure mode that catches most families: a cancelled session because the tutor is stuck on the Emirates Road.

The table below compares the three on the things that actually differ. The rate ranges are market figures gathered from published provider pages and from Bestimate's Dubai tutoring cost table, not IB Gram prices. They are included because almost no competing page in this market publishes an AED figure at all, which leaves parents guessing.

Read the last column carefully. The question of what happens when a session cannot run is the one that separates a service from an arrangement, and it is worth asking any prospective tutor before the first payment. A missed hour in October is an inconvenience; a missed hour in the fortnight before a mock is a topic that never gets covered, and the family discovers it from a results slip rather than from the tutor.

03

Cambridge or Pearson: find the code before you book

Schools around Ajman and Sharjah run both British-track boards, and some run them in parallel across different subjects. A child can sit Cambridge 0580 for maths and Pearson 4PH1 for physics in the same year. Parents frequently do not know which, because the school refers to subjects by name and the certificate arrives two years later.

Finding out takes one message to the subject teacher or one look at the statement of entry. It is worth the five minutes, because the boards differ in ways that change revision. Cambridge Extended maths includes a paper where no calculator is permitted; Pearson allows one in both papers of Mathematics A. Cambridge science splits the practical assessment into a timed practical test or an alternative-to-practical written paper; Pearson handles practical skills inside the theory papers. The command words differ, the formula provision differs, and the mark schemes reward different phrasing.

Tiering is the other divergence. Cambridge offers Core and Extended in most subjects, and Core caps the grade available at C. Pearson offers Foundation and Higher in maths. A Year 10 tier decision made for comfort can quietly close an A Level door, and it is reversible only inside the school's own entry deadlines, which sit months before the exam.

Once you have the codes, matching becomes concrete. A request for a maths tutor is vague. A request for a tutor who has taught 0580 Extended to a student aiming to move from a 5 to a 7 in nine months is a brief somebody can answer.

04

Five questions that test whether a tutor knows the syllabus

  • Which paper carries the practical assessment, and what is the alternative?
  • What is the highest grade available on the Core tier?
  • Which specification topic do your students lose the most marks on?
  • How will you use the mock paper the school has already set?
  • What will you not do with my child's coursework?

Credentials on a profile tell you little. A degree in physics does not mean somebody has taught 0625, and a teaching licence from another country does not mean they know how a Cambridge examiner words a six-mark question. The fastest filter is a short conversation with questions whose answers cannot be improvised.

Ask which paper carries the practical assessment in the subject your child takes, and what the alternative route is. Ask what the grade ceiling is on the Core tier. Ask which topic in the specification their students most often lose marks on, and then ask what they do about it in the first three sessions. Ask how they would use a past paper that the school has already set as a mock. Ask what they will not do with an assessed piece of coursework.

The answers you want are specific and slightly boring. Somebody who says they focus on building confidence has not answered. Somebody who says that Core candidates cannot score above a C, that bounds and compound-interest questions eat marks in 0580, and that they start by marking one paper against the published scheme to see where the method marks are being lost, has.

A free trial lesson does the same job faster. Watch the first ten minutes. A tutor who opens by asking which board the school entered the student for is already ahead of most of the market, and a tutor who asks to see a marked paper before talking about a plan is ahead again. The reverse signal is just as clear: somebody who spends the trial describing their own background rather than diagnosing your child's work will spend the paid sessions the same way.

05

What IGCSE tuition costs across the Ajman and Sharjah market

Start with the monthly figure, because that is the number a household budget actually feels. One hour a week for a month is four sessions. At the lower end of the qualified-tutor band that is roughly AED 600 a month; at the specialist end it is closer to AED 1,200. Bestimate's Dubai tutoring cost table puts monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions at AED 240-600 for budget tutors, AED 600-1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Rates in the northern emirates sit at or slightly below the Dubai bands.

Hourly figures from published provider pages fill in the detail. EdFlik advertises from AED 45-65 an hour at the budget end and Tutopiya from AED 33-52. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes AED 270. BartyED sits at AED 650 for a premium named tutor. In-home visits in the UAE are quoted between AED 180 and AED 500 an hour once travel is accounted for, and monthly packages advertised in this market run around AED 799 for eight online sessions or AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

What a parent can verify is more useful than any single figure. Ask whether the rate is per hour or per lesson, whether a 45-minute session is billed as an hour, whether the quoted price includes any VAT the provider charges, and what happens to a prepaid block if the match does not work. Those four answers explain most of the gap between two quotes that look identical.

IB Gram does not publish a fixed hourly price on these pages, because the rate depends on subject, level and how close the exam series is. The free trial lesson and the consultation that follows are where the number for your child's case gets quoted, and no payment is taken before it.

Is the tutor legally permitted to teach in the UAE?

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and u.ae states that it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. The application route is the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation: the service is listed as Issuance of a New Work Permit for private tutor licensing, with no fee and a two-working-day completion time.

u.ae also states that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so any figure circulating online should be treated as unverified. The relevant point for a parent is simpler: ask a prospective tutor whether they hold the permit, and treat a vague answer as an answer.

There is a second layer that parents rarely hear about. In Abu Dhabi, professional-ethics rules reported in the press bar private and charter school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit carries a code of conduct that also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. The ethical position is the same everywhere in the country: your child's own classroom teacher is the wrong person to pay privately, however convenient it looks.

A tutoring operation with premises and staff is a different legal animal again. A training institute in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit, and that permit is issued to an institute with a physical centre. IB Gram holds no such permit, claims no regulator approval or accreditation, and operates no office, centre or branch in the UAE. Anyone advertising KHDA-approved tutors is describing something that does not exist in that form.

The equivalency file: five subjects, grade E, and what does not count

Families in Ajman who plan to keep a child in the UAE for university eventually meet the Ministry of Education equivalency process. It converts a foreign school certificate into something a UAE institution can act on, and the British-track requirement is specific enough to plan around from Year 10.

For the British track, a student must show five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. That exclusion matters in practice: a student taking Arabic as a mandated school subject still needs five other passes to reach the count.

The American track works differently, and families with children in both systems should know both. English proficiency is shown by a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT. Mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. One ranking competitor in this market publishes a requirement of six IGCSE subjects, which does not match the published rule.

No IB points threshold is published in the source above, so no figure for the IB route appears on this page. A family on the Diploma route should confirm the requirement directly with the Ministry of Education or the attestation authority in their emirate. IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee any part of the equivalency or attestation process, and tutoring is not a requirement for it.

08

Where help ends and malpractice begins

  • A tutor teaches the skill, explains the criteria and gives feedback on the student's own draft
  • A tutor does not write, complete, rewrite or supply assessed work
  • Purchased coursework is a malpractice risk carried entirely by the student
  • Official board documents are referenced and linked, never reproduced or supplied

This market contains providers who sell completed coursework. One page examined during research offers finished Internal Assessments at a fixed price. Buying one is not a shortcut; it is a malpractice case that can cost a student their qualification, and it is the clearest line in the whole tutoring business.

The honest version of coursework support is narrower and more useful than parents expect. A tutor can teach the skill the task assesses. They can explain the assessment criteria and what each band actually describes. They can look at a draft the student has written and say which paragraph does not do what the criterion asks. They can ask the questions that make a student notice their own gap in reasoning. They can set a timetable so the work does not land in one weekend.

A tutor cannot write a sentence of it, cannot edit it to completion, cannot supply a model answer for the student to reshape, and cannot hand over a finished piece. On the IGCSE side the same applies to any coursework component and to the controlled-assessment routes some subjects offer. Schools know what a Year 11 student writes like, and the gap between a student's classwork and a purchased draft is visible from across a staffroom.

IB Gram also does not reproduce or distribute Cambridge, Pearson or IB syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables. Those belong to the boards. A tutor can reference them, work from a paper the school has already issued, and point a parent to the official site. That is both the legal position and, in practice, the more useful one, because the official version is the current one.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Emirates City

Lessons for students in Emirates City are delivered online, so the surrounding communities are listed here as scheduling context rather than as a travel radius. Each one has a different evening rhythm.

Emirates City

Tower living close to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, with a high share of commuting parents. Sessions here work best after 6pm once the Sharjah and Dubai traffic has cleared and the household has settled.

Al Yasmeen

Villa community a short drive inland, popular with families who want a garden and a school run that stays inside Ajman. Earlier slots from 4.30pm are usually workable because the school day finishes closer to home.

Al Mowaihat

Three numbered sub-districts of mostly villa plots, with a wide spread of curricula across the resident children. Siblings on different syllabuses are common here, which is why back-to-back sessions on the same evening are a frequent request.

Al Nuaimiya

Older, denser and closer to the Sharjah border, with a large share of apartment households. A quiet room matters more here than anywhere else in Ajman, so headphones and a fixed study corner are worth setting up before the first lesson.

Ajman Corniche

Waterfront apartments where evenings are later and weekend mornings are quieter than average. Saturday morning slots fill quickly with Year 11 students working through past papers.

Al Helio

Newer villa plots towards the Ajman ring road, with families split between schools in Ajman and Sharjah. Travel time to a Sharjah campus is the main reason parents here move a session later in the evening.

Al Jurf

Mixed residential and industrial zoning, with several schools and clinics inside the district. Sessions are often booked around a parent finishing a shift rather than around the school bell.

Al Rawda

Established residential streets with a settled, largely long-term resident population. Two sessions a week through Years 10 and 11 is the pattern families here ask about most often.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Emirates City

Ajman schools

Private schools in Ajman are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, which u.ae describes as playing a supervisory role for private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Students we support in Emirates City attend schools across the emirate, on British, Indian and IB routes.

Sharjah campuses on the Emirates City side

Because Emirates City sits close to the emirate boundary, a sizeable number of children here travel to Sharjah every morning. Sharjah private schools are regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which u.ae states regulates private education in the emirate and approves tuition fees, curricula and assessment methods.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the three things that matter

Subject, year group and the syllabus code from the statement of entry or the school's subject list. If you do not have the code, the school name and subject are usually enough for us to work it out. A recent report or a marked paper makes the first session twice as useful.

  2. 02

    Get a shortlist with reasons

You receive a short list of tutors who have taught that specification, with the reason each one is on it. If nobody suitable is free at the hour you need, we say so and offer the nearest workable slot rather than filling the gap with whoever is available.

  3. 03

    Take the trial lesson

One free trial session, one-to-one over live video, with no card details taken beforehand. Sit nearby for the first ten minutes. You are listening for whether the tutor talks about the specification and the student's own errors rather than about study skills in general.

  4. 04

    Fix the hour and start

Pick a weekday slot that survives a busy term and keep it. Lessons run on Gulf Standard Time, so a 5pm slot is 5pm in Emirates City. Recordings are available afterwards, and a short written note goes to the parent after each session.

  5. 05

    Review at the six-week mark

Six weeks in, look at marked work rather than at feelings. If the pattern of lost marks has not moved, the plan changes or the tutor does. Changing a tutor early costs a fortnight; leaving a poor match until March costs a grade.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the specification, not the postcode

A tutor is proposed because they have taught the code on your child's timetable. For a family in Emirates City that is the difference between choosing from the few specialists within a short drive and choosing from specialists wherever they happen to live.

One rule about delivery, stated plainly

Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the country; home visits are an India-only service. Nothing on this site promises a UAE doorstep arrival, because nothing in the service provides one.

Prices framed as the market, not as a claim

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the provider or table that published it, with the month it was read. Your own rate is quoted after the trial, against the subject and the distance to the exam series, and no payment is taken first.

Coursework support with a hard boundary

A tutor teaches the skill, unpacks the criteria and responds to the student's own draft. Nobody writes, completes or supplies assessed work. That boundary is stated on the page because it is the thing most likely to harm a student in this market.

Calendar awareness built into the plan

Candidates registered in the UAE sit the June and November Cambridge series; the February and March series is offered in India only. Planning starts from the entry deadline and the results date, counted backwards to the hours available.

Regulator facts cited, never borrowed

Ajman's private schools sit under the federal Ministry of Education, Sharjah's under SPEA, Dubai's under KHDA, Abu Dhabi's under ADEK. We explain what each one does and claim approval from none of them, because IB Gram holds none.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Emirates City: your questions answered

Is there an IGCSE home tutor in Emirates City who knows my child's exact syllabus?+

Probably not within a short drive, and that is the honest answer. Emirates City is a residential tower cluster, not a tutoring hub, and the number of Cambridge or Pearson subject specialists living nearby and free at 5pm is very small. IB Gram solves it the other way round: the tutor is chosen for the syllabus code on your child's statement of entry, then taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. No tutor comes to an address in Ajman, because home visits are an India-only service. What you gain is a specialist in 0580 Extended or 4PH1 rather than the nearest available graduate.

How do I check whether a tutor has really taught Cambridge 0580 before?+

Ask three questions a non-specialist cannot answer. What is the highest grade a Core candidate can be awarded? Which paper in the Extended route forbids a calculator? Which two topics do their students most often lose method marks on? A tutor who has taught 0580 will say C for the Core ceiling without hesitating, will name the non-calculator paper, and will reach for bounds, vectors or compound growth rather than offering general comments about confidence. Then take the free trial lesson and listen to the first ten minutes. If the tutor opens by asking which board the school entered your child for, that is a good sign.

My son is in Year 10 at a school in Ajman. Does online tuition suit that age?+

Year 10 is the age it suits best. A fourteen or fifteen year old can hold a screen session for an hour, already works on a laptop at school, and benefits from the recording afterwards. Two practical conditions make the difference. The student needs a fixed study spot with headphones rather than a sofa, and the slot needs to be the same evening every week so it survives a busy term. Sit in the next room for the first fortnight. Once the routine holds, most parents step back and read the written note that follows each session instead.

Do you cover both Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel for a family living in Emirates City?+

Yes, and the distinction is the first thing we check. Schools around Ajman and Sharjah use both boards, sometimes in different subjects for the same student. Cambridge subjects carry four-digit numeric codes such as 0580 for Mathematics, 0625 for Physics and 0620 for Chemistry. Pearson International GCSE codes start with a numeral, such as 4MA1, 4PH1 and 4CH1. Past papers are not interchangeable between them, calculator rules differ, and the mark schemes reward different phrasing. One message to the subject teacher, or a look at the statement of entry, settles which one applies.

What does IGCSE tuition cost for families living around Emirates City?+

Think in months rather than hours. One session a week is four a month, which at the qualified-tutor band of AED 150 to 300 an hour works out near AED 600 to 1,200. Bestimate's Dubai cost table puts monthly estimates at AED 240 to 600 for budget tutors and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support, and the northern emirates sit at or just below Dubai levels. In-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour once travel is priced in. Those are market figures from published pages, not IB Gram prices; ours are quoted after the free trial.

Does a tutor teaching my child online still need a MoHRE permit?+

A person providing private tuition in the UAE needs the private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. u.ae states it is granted free of charge for two years, and the eligible categories include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Applications go through MoHRE, which lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. u.ae also states that tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no schedule of amounts is published. Ask any tutor directly whether they hold it.

How are IGCSE science practicals handled if the lessons are online?+

The practical assessment stays with the school; the tutor prepares the student for the paper that carries it. Cambridge assesses practical skills either through a timed practical test or through the alternative-to-practical written paper, depending on how the centre enters candidates. That written route is largely about apparatus choice, measurement precision, sources of error and graph work, all of which are taught well on a shared screen with a past paper open. Pearson handles practical skills inside the theory papers instead. The first thing a tutor should establish is which route your child's centre uses, because the preparation differs substantially.

Which five IGCSE subjects does the Ministry of Education count for equivalency?+

The published rule for the British track asks for five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five. There is no prescribed list of which five, so the practical advice is to protect five solid passes outside those two subjects from Year 10 onwards. Verify the current requirement with the Ministry of Education before you rely on it; IB Gram does not submit or guarantee any part of the process.

When do IGCSE exams run for a candidate registered in Ajman?+

Cambridge runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series, and the February and March series is offered to India only, so a UAE candidate plans around June with November as the resit route. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and publishes a separate timetable for each, stating that it is essential to use the correct version and that it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses an exam after using the wrong one. Pearson International GCSE runs in May/June and November. Open the live timetable on the board's own site rather than trusting a date on a tutoring page.

Can a tutor help with the Arabic subject my child takes alongside the British curriculum?+

Yes, within limits worth understanding. Private schools in the UAE must teach Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies alongside their licensed international curriculum, and in Dubai the KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ. For mandated UAE subjects, schools may not use different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education, so a tutor works with the school's own material and the published syllabus. Short, frequent sessions with reading aloud and correction do more for Arabic than long weekly blocks.

How quickly can lessons start for a student in Emirates City?+

Usually within a few days for mainstream subjects, because the slot rather than the tutor is the constraint. Maths, the separate sciences, English and Business are well covered, and the realistic delay is finding a weekday hour that works for both sides. Narrow or unusual combinations take longer, and the honest version of that answer matters: if nobody who has taught your child's specification is free at the hour you want, we say so and offer the nearest workable alternative instead of filling the gap. Evening slots after 6pm are the first to go in this part of Ajman.

Will the tutor work from my child's school worksheets or their own material?+

Both, in that order. The first two sessions usually work from what the school has already set, because a marked paper or a returned test tells a tutor more than any diagnostic they could design. From there the tutor builds a short plan around the pattern of loss, using past questions on the specification your child is entered for. What a tutor will not do is supply board-owned documents such as syllabus PDFs, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables. Those belong to Cambridge, Pearson or the IB and are referenced and linked, never reproduced.

My daughter is predicted a 4 in maths. Is the Extended tier still the right entry?+

It depends on what she needs the grade for, and the decision has a deadline. Cambridge Core caps the available grade at C, so a Core entry closes the door on an A Level maths route and on some university prerequisites, whatever happens in the exam. If the target is a 6 or better and there are two terms left, Extended with focused support is usually the better bet. If the entry has already been made, the school's own deadline governs any change. Ask the head of maths what the centre's deadline is before assuming either option is still open.

What happens in the first lesson, and what if the match turns out to be wrong?+

The trial session is free and no card details are taken beforehand. The tutor spends most of it on your child's own work, usually a marked paper, and finishes by naming two or three specific errors and what the first month would address. You get a short written note afterwards. If the match is wrong, say so and a different tutor is proposed; changing early costs a fortnight, while leaving a poor match until the spring costs a grade. Review again at six weeks, using marked work rather than impressions as the evidence.

Start with the syllabus code, not the map

If you take one thing from this page, make it the five minutes it takes to find out which specification your child is entered for. With a code in hand, the search for an IGCSE home tutor in Emirates City stops being a question about driving distance and becomes a question somebody can answer precisely. Send the subject, the year group and the code, take the free trial lesson, and judge the tutor on whether they talk about your child's actual errors. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, every week, at an hour that survives a busy term. No tutor arrives at your building, and nothing on this page pretends otherwise.
