IB Home Tutor in Al Yasmeen

Families looking for an IB home tutor in Al Yasmeen are usually not short of candidates; they are short of candidates who have taught the Diploma. Al Yasmeen is a villa community inland from the Ajman coast, and a graduate who tutored A Level maths will not know what criterion E of a mathematical exploration rewards. This page shows you how to test for real IB fluency in ten minutes, then explains how IB Gram delivers it: one-to-one, over live video, on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Tutors matched to the subject group and level, HL or SL
  • Internal Assessment criteria explained by letter and mark
  • Lessons one-to-one over live video, never a visit to an Ajman address
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, never writing it

IB & IGCSE in Al Yasmeen

Why an IB parent's search ends differently

Al Yasmeen is a villa district set back from the Ajman coast, with wide plots, a settled resident population and a school run that mostly stays inside the emirate. It is a comfortable place to raise a family and a difficult place to find a Diploma Programme tutor. The reason is arithmetic rather than geography: the IB accounts for a small share of students in the UAE compared with the British and Indian curricula, so the pool of tutors who have taught a specific Higher Level subject through to a grade boundary is small everywhere, and smaller again inside one neighbourhood.

That scarcity is why the usual search produces the wrong kind of candidate. Plenty of tutors can teach differentiation. Far fewer can tell you that a mathematical exploration is marked on five criteria lettered A to E, that criterion E carries six of the twenty marks, and that personal engagement is worth three marks a student usually throws away by choosing a topic from a list. Those are different kinds of knowledge, and only the second one moves an IB grade.

The Diploma compounds the problem by assessing things that do not exist in other systems. Theory of Knowledge has an essay capped at 1,600 words and an exhibition of three objects. The Extended Essay runs to 4,000 words and is marked on five criteria worth 34 marks in total. Each subject carries an Internal Assessment with its own criterion letters and its own internal school deadline. A tutor who has never supervised any of it will be learning on your child's time.

This page is built to help you test for the right thing. It sets out what separates an IB tutor from a competent subject teacher, gives you the questions that reveal the difference, publishes the Internal Assessment criteria by letter and mark so you can check an answer, and lists the word limits across the Diploma so nobody in your household is guessing. Competing pages in this market mention Internal Assessments without naming a single criterion; the details are on this page because they are what a parent needs.

There is one more thing worth saying before the detail. Diploma students are busy in a way that other sixteen-year-olds are not, and a plan that ignores that fails whatever its academic merit. Six subjects, three core components and CAS commitments produce weeks where nothing can be added, and the only tuition hour that survives is the one fixed before the term started.

On delivery, the position is simple and stated the same way on every IB Gram country page. There is no office, centre or branch in the UAE. Nobody arrives at a villa in Al Yasmeen, because home visits are a service IB Gram runs in India only. UAE tuition is one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, with the recording available afterwards and a short written note to the parent after each session.

At a glance

  • Private schools in Ajman are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education
  • Diploma Higher Level specialists are scarce across the whole UAE, not just in Ajman
  • Internal Assessment criteria are lettered, and the letters tell you where the marks are
  • A tutor gives feedback on the student's own draft and writes none of it
  • UAE schools sit the May Diploma session; lessons plan backwards from the school's internal deadlines
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The IB runs as a continuum, and families in Al Yasmeen usually enter it at one of three points. Each stage has a different failure mode and a different tutoring brief.

PYPAges 3-12 - FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led learning organised around transdisciplinary themes, with no external examinations and a report format that describes development rather than ranking it. Support at this stage is almost always about literacy or number fluency rather than about the programme itself, and it works best in short, frequent sessions.

For Al Yasmeen families the practical issue at this age is reading stamina in English when it is a second or third language at home. A weekly half-hour of reading aloud with correction does more than a full hour of worksheets, and it costs less. Schools in Ajman also teach Arabic alongside the licensed curriculum, which is a second reading load for a young child.

MYPAges 11-16 - Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria each, scored one to eight and converted to a grade one to seven. The conversion is where parents misread the report: a criterion score of five is not a percentage, and a strong-sounding report can hide a specific weakness in one criterion across every subject.

MYP Year 5 is the cheapest and most effective place to intervene before the Diploma. Students who arrive in Diploma Year 1 without algebraic fluency, lab-report discipline or the habit of citing sources need several times as many paid hours to repair it. One session a week through MYP 4 and 5 is the quietest money a family can spend well.

DPAges 16-19 - Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Three subjects at Higher Level, three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Each subject carries an Internal Assessment with its own criteria. The grade is out of 45, with up to three bonus points from the TOK and Extended Essay matrix, and the commonest cause of a disappointing total is not a weak paper but an Internal Assessment left to the last fortnight.

UAE schools sit the May session. Exact session and results dates are set by the IB and should be confirmed with your child's Diploma coordinator rather than taken from a tutoring page. The dates that genuinely govern the year are the school's own internal deadlines for the exploration, the Extended Essay drafts and the TOK exhibition, and those sit months before any exam.

CPAges 16-19 - Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

A smaller IB route combining Diploma courses with a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. Offered by far fewer schools in the UAE than the Diploma, so a family exploring it should confirm availability with the school before planning around it.

Where it is offered, the reflective project is the component that most resembles an Extended Essay in the support it needs: structure, sourcing and a defensible argument, with the writing staying entirely the student's own. Families in Ajman considering this route often do so for the subject flexibility rather than the workload.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Diploma requests from this part of Ajman cluster in the sciences, mathematics and economics, with English A and Business Management close behind. Each note names the component where marks go missing.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Higher Level adds Paper 3, an extended problem-solving paper that rewards students who can sustain an argument over several parts. The exploration carries twenty marks on criteria A to E, and most lost marks sit in reflection and personal engagement rather than in the mathematics itself.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Calculator-active throughout, with statistics and modelling at its centre. Students who chose it to avoid proof often underestimate the Higher Level statistical testing content, which is where the grade is decided.

Physics

HL and SL

The scientific investigation is assessed on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. Uncertainty handling is the single most reliable source of lost marks, and it is rarely taught slowly enough in a full class.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms and equilibrium calculations separate a 5 from a 7. The investigation needs a question narrow enough to generate a controlled data set, and a tutor's most useful intervention is refusing a topic that is too broad in week one.

Biology

HL and SL

Precision marking rather than volume. Answers that describe a trend without naming the mechanism earn little, and the investigation needs a measurable dependent variable rather than an interesting idea.

Economics

HL and SL

The Internal Assessment is three commentaries of 800 words each, marked on criteria A to E for fourteen marks apiece. Diagram accuracy earns marks before analysis begins, and Higher Level adds quantitative work in Paper 3.

Business Management

HL and SL

Application to the named organisation is what the criteria reward. Students lose marks writing textbook theory with the company's name attached, and the research project needs a focused question rather than a broad company review.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is guided analysis of unseen non-literary text, and the Individual Oral is the component students under-rehearse most. Higher Level adds an essay on a studied text, marked on its own criteria.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

An essay of up to 1,600 words on a prescribed title and an exhibition of three objects with a commentary of up to 950 words. Most students write description where the marker wants an argument about how knowledge is produced.

Extended Essay

Core

Up to 4,000 words, marked on five criteria worth 34 marks. Supervision is about focus, method and critical engagement; the writing is entirely the student's, and the reflections are assessed alongside it.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes cover nearly every Diploma request from this area, and all three run over live video with the student's own work on screen.

Weekly subject hour at a named level

One Higher or Standard Level subject, one tutor, one fixed hour a week through the school year. The level is part of the match, not a detail: Higher Level Physics and Standard Level Physics are different courses with different papers, and a tutor who has taught one has not necessarily taught the other.

  • Matched to HL or SL specifically, not to the subject name
  • Works from the student's own marked scripts and school materials
  • Session recording available for revision
  • Short written note to the parent afterwards

Internal Assessment milestone sessions

A small number of sessions placed at the points where an Internal Assessment actually goes wrong: choosing the question, designing the method, reading the first draft against the criteria. Four to six hours spread across months rather than a weekly commitment.

  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Topic narrowed before data collection begins
  • Scheduled around the school's internal deadlines
  • No writing, drafting or completion by the tutor

Core support for TOK and the Extended Essay

Structured help with the two components that sit outside every subject. For Theory of Knowledge that means turning a prescribed title into an arguable question. For the Extended Essay it means a research question narrow enough to answer in 4,000 words and a method the criteria recognise.

  • Prescribed title unpacked into a defensible argument
  • Extended Essay criteria A to E explained with their mark weights
  • Reflection sessions prepared, not scripted
  • Entirely the student's own writing throughout

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Yasmeen

01

What a parent in Al Yasmeen is really asking

The search phrase is about location but the question underneath it is about competence. Is there anybody reachable from here who has actually taught this programme? For the Diploma, in a villa district in Ajman, the honest answer is that the local pool is thin and the few local candidates are mostly British-curriculum tutors who will treat the IB as A Level with different paperwork.

That mistake is costly in a specific way. A Diploma grade is built from external papers and an Internal Assessment, and the Internal Assessment is where a well-taught student gains and a badly supported student quietly loses. A tutor who drills content and ignores the criteria can lift a student's understanding while the grade stays where it was, because the marks being lost were never in the content.

So the question worth asking is narrower than location and narrower than subject. It is whether the tutor has taken a student through this subject at this level, including its Internal Assessment, and can describe the criteria without looking them up. Once you ask that, the catchment stops mattering, because the honest answer in Al Yasmeen, Al Mowaihat or Al Helio is the same: the specialist is unlikely to be the nearest person.

IB Gram answers it by matching on the subject and level rather than the postcode, and by delivering every UAE lesson one-to-one over live video. Nobody travels to a villa in Al Yasmeen; home visits are an India-only service. What a family gains in exchange is a tutor chosen from a national and international pool instead of a neighbourhood one.

02

An IB tutor and a good subject teacher are not the same hire

  • Ask which criteria the Internal Assessment is marked on, by letter
  • Ask what the highest-weighted criterion is in your child's subject
  • Ask how evaluate differs from discuss in an IB mark scheme
  • Ask what the TOK exhibition requires and how long the commentary may be

A strong subject teacher knows the content. An IB tutor knows the content and the assessment architecture around it, and in this programme the architecture carries a large share of the grade. Each Diploma subject has an Internal Assessment worth a substantial slice of the final mark, and each is assessed on named criteria with published mark allocations rather than on a general impression of quality.

The difference shows up immediately in how the two approach a weak draft. A subject teacher reads it and says the analysis needs more depth. An IB tutor reads it and says that criterion C is capped at three marks here because the personal engagement is asserted rather than demonstrated, and that the fix is a paragraph explaining why this student chose this data set. One comment is encouragement; the other is a mark.

The same gap appears in the external papers. Command terms in the IB have specific meanings, and a question that says evaluate is asking for something the word discuss is not. Students who have been taught in another system frequently answer the question they expected rather than the one printed, and a tutor who has marked IB scripts spots that pattern in a single session.

Theory of Knowledge is the clearest test of all. It is unlike anything in a national curriculum, it carries bonus points on the Diploma matrix with the Extended Essay, and a tutor who cannot explain how an exhibition differs from an essay has not worked with the programme. Ask about it early; the answer sorts candidates faster than any credential list.

03

Internal Assessment criteria, by letter and mark

This is the table competing pages in this market do not publish. Research across sixty-odd ranking pages found none that names a single Internal Assessment criterion, let alone its mark allocation, even though the Internal Assessment is where most recoverable marks sit. A parent who knows the letters can check a tutor's answer, and a student who knows them can self-mark a draft before anyone else reads it.

The pattern worth noticing is that presentation and communication criteria are small, while the analytical criteria are large. Students instinctively polish the parts worth three or four marks and skimp on the parts worth six or twelve. In an Extended Essay, critical thinking alone carries twelve of the 34 marks, which is more than focus, method and presentation combined.

Use the table as a planning tool rather than a reference. Work out which criterion your child's draft is weakest against, and spend the paid hours there. A session that lifts a six-mark criterion by two marks is worth more than three sessions spent tidying a four-mark presentation criterion that was already fine.

There is a second use for it. When a tutor explains a mark your child received, the letters let you follow the explanation instead of accepting it. A parent who can ask why criterion D scored two rather than three is in a different conversation from a parent told the work needed more depth, and that conversation is where a tutoring relationship becomes accountable.

Criteria and mark allocations are set by the IB and are revised from time to time with syllabus changes. Confirm the current version for your child's subject and cohort with the school's Diploma coordinator or the subject guide the school holds, because the version in force depends on the year of first assessment.

04

Word limits across the Diploma, in one place

Half the stress in a Diploma household comes from not knowing how long something is supposed to be. Limits exist, they differ by component, and exceeding them has consequences that range from lost marks to work that cannot be assessed. Having them written down removes an argument that otherwise recurs every few weeks.

The Extended Essay is capped at 4,000 words, and examiners are not required to read beyond it. The Theory of Knowledge essay is capped at 1,600 words and the exhibition commentary at 950. Each Economics commentary is 800 words, three times over. The science investigation report sits at 3,000 words. A mathematics exploration has a recommended length rather than a hard cap, usually described as twelve to twenty pages, which trips up students who equate length with quality.

Two practical habits follow. First, write to eighty per cent of the limit and use the remaining space for revision rather than addition, because cutting a finished piece by 600 words destroys structure. Second, check what the limit excludes, since bibliographies, appendices and some figure captions usually sit outside the count, and students either waste words or hide content in the wrong place.

Confirm every figure against the current subject guide for your child's cohort. Limits are set by the IB and change with syllabus revisions, and the version that matters is the one for the year of first assessment your child sits under. The school's coordinator holds it.

Al Yasmeen afternoons and where the hour fits

  • Al Yasmeen's in-emirate school run makes 4.30pm and 5pm slots workable
  • Sharjah commuters should plan for 6.30pm or a weekend morning instead
  • Keep the same weekday every week so the slot survives a busy term
  • Collect the school's internal deadlines in September and plan backwards from them

Scheduling is not an administrative afterthought in a Diploma year; it is most of why a plan fails. Al Yasmeen has an advantage here over the coastal districts. Many children attend schools inside Ajman, so the journey home is short and the afternoon is not consumed by a drive back from Sharjah or Dubai. That makes a 4.30pm or 5pm start realistic, and those are the slots that stay available.

The households that struggle are the ones driving into Sharjah or further, where a 2.45pm finish becomes a 4.15pm arrival and a tired student. For them the honest recommendation is a 6.30pm or 7pm slot with a break and a meal first, or a weekend morning. A session scheduled into the gap where a teenager is actually hungry and flat produces an hour of attendance and very little learning.

Fix the day as well as the time. A slot that moves weekly is the slot that disappears in March, because every competing commitment is negotiable except the one that is already fixed. Diploma students have CAS, internal deadlines and mock weeks landing in clusters, and the only defence is a tuition hour that nobody has to decide about each week.

Build the year backwards from the school's internal deadlines rather than from the exam session. The dates that actually shape a Diploma Year 1 are the exploration deadline, the Extended Essay first-draft date and the TOK exhibition submission, and they sit months before any paper. Ask the coordinator for them in September and put them on one page on the fridge.

06

What Diploma support costs across this market

Take the cheapest end first, because that is where most families start looking. Budget online providers in this market advertise from AED 45 to 65 an hour, and one platform lists from AED 33 to 52. At that level you are buying a recent graduate or an undergraduate, which is reasonable value for Middle Years catch-up and thin cover for a Higher Level Diploma paper with an Internal Assessment attached.

A step up, Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 an hour against IGCSE from AED 150, and that gap is the market pricing scarcity rather than prestige. TutorChase quotes AED 270. Bestimate's Dubai cost table puts specialist exam-year support at AED 200 to 450 and above, with a premium named tutor at AED 650 published by BartyED. In-home visits anywhere in the UAE are quoted between AED 180 and AED 500 an hour once travel is priced in, and the travel component buys presence rather than teaching.

What a parent can verify matters more than any band. Ask whether the tutor has taught this subject at this level, which Internal Assessment criteria they can name, whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, how many hours the whole plan comes to, and what happens to a prepaid block if the match fails in week two. Those five answers explain almost every price difference you will encounter.

IB Gram does not print an hourly figure on these pages, because the rate depends on the subject, the level and how close the session is to the May series. The free trial lesson comes first, no card details are taken before it, and the number for your child's case is quoted after it.

07

Academic honesty: the line a tutor does not cross

The IB treats work submitted for assessment as the student's own, and a breach is not a telling-off. It is a malpractice case that can cost the Diploma. This market contains at least one provider selling completed Internal Assessments at a fixed price, which makes the boundary worth stating on the page rather than in small print.

What legitimate support looks like is specific. A tutor teaches the skill the task assesses. They explain each criterion and what the band descriptors actually describe. They discuss a research question and say honestly when it is too broad to answer. They read a draft the student has written and identify which paragraph fails which criterion. They help build a timetable so an exploration is not written in one weekend. They prepare a student for a reflection conversation without scripting it.

What a tutor never does is write a sentence of the work, rewrite a paragraph into final form, supply a model answer for reshaping, or hand over anything the student then submits. The same applies to the Extended Essay, the TOK essay and exhibition, and every subject Internal Assessment. Supervisors know their students' writing, and the IB's own reflection process exists partly to expose work that is not the candidate's.

IB Gram also does not reproduce or supply IB syllabus documents, subject guides, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables. Those belong to the IB. A tutor references them, works from material the school has already issued, and points parents to the official source, which has the additional advantage of being current.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Yasmeen

Tuition for Al Yasmeen students runs online, so these neighbouring districts appear as scheduling context. The school run differs enough between them to change what time a session can start.

Al Yasmeen

Villa plots inland with a school run that largely stays inside Ajman, so afternoons free up earlier than on the coast. Sessions from 4.30pm are realistic here, which is the easiest part of the day to book.

Al Mowaihat

Adjacent villa districts numbered one to three, with children spread across several curricula. Families here often book two consecutive hours so the household gives up one evening rather than three.

Al Helio

Newer plots towards the ring road, with a significant number of children travelling to Sharjah schools. Later starts after 6pm are the norm because the return journey is longer.

Al Rawda

Established streets close to Al Yasmeen with long-settled households. Two sessions a week through the Diploma years is the pattern families here ask about most.

Al Jurf

Mixed residential and commercial zoning with schools inside the district. Slots here are often set by a parent's shift rather than the school day.

Emirates City

Apartment towers on the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road corridor, largely commuter households. Evening sessions after 6.30pm and weekend mornings carry most of the demand.

Al Zorah

Low-density waterfront development on the northern side of the city. Small resident numbers, and requests here are usually for a single Higher Level subject rather than a full plan.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Yasmeen

IB and international schools in Ajman

Private schools in Ajman fall under the federal Ministry of Education, which u.ae describes as supervising private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Students we support in Al Yasmeen attend schools across the emirate, with the IB continuum concentrated in a small number of campuses.

  • Habitat School Ajman
  • Pace British School Ajman
  • Woodlem Park School Ajman
  • Ajman Modern School

Sharjah IB campuses within reach

Several Al Yasmeen families drive into Sharjah for an IB continuum place. Sharjah private education is regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which u.ae states regulates private education in the emirate and approves curricula, programmes and assessment methods.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Australian International School Sharjah

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level and the component

Higher or Standard Level matters as much as the subject name, and naming the component in trouble, a paper, an exploration, the TOK essay, makes the match precise. A recent marked piece of work attached to the message saves a paid session of diagnosis.

  2. 02

Receive a shortlist with experience stated

You see tutors who have taught that subject at that level, with what they have supervised. If nobody suitable is available at the hour you need, we tell you rather than proposing a British-curriculum tutor who will treat the Diploma as A Level.

  3. 03

Use the free trial to test criteria fluency

One free session, no card details beforehand. Ask the tutor to mark a page of your child's draft against the criteria aloud. A tutor who names letters and mark weights without hesitating is the one you want, and you have found that out at no cost.

  4. 04

Fix the slot and map the deadlines

Agree a weekday hour that survives the term, on Gulf Standard Time. Then put the school's internal deadlines for the exploration, the Extended Essay and the TOK components into the plan, because those govern the year more than the exam session does.

  5. 05

Review against criteria at six weeks

Look at a marked draft or script and ask which criteria have moved. If nothing has shifted, change the approach or the tutor. Criterion-level review is more honest than a general sense of progress and it catches a poor match in weeks rather than terms.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on subject and level, not proximity

A Higher Level Physics tutor and a Standard Level Physics tutor are different matches, and neither is interchangeable with a general science tutor. For a villa district in Ajman, matching on specialism rather than distance is the only way to reach a real Diploma specialist.

Criteria published, not alluded to

This page names Internal Assessment criteria by letter with their mark allocations. Research across sixty-odd competing pages in this market found none that names a single one, which tells you how rarely a parent is given the information they need to check an answer.

Online delivery, stated plainly

Every UAE lesson is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in the UAE; home visits run in India only. There is no office, centre or branch in the country and no claim of regulator approval.

A hard line on assessed work

Teaching, criteria explanation and feedback on the student's own draft. No writing, no completion, no model answers to reshape. One provider in this market sells finished Internal Assessments; the risk in that transaction sits entirely with the student.

Planning from the school's own deadlines

The dates that shape a Diploma year are internal: the exploration deadline, the Extended Essay drafts, the TOK exhibition. We plan backwards from those, and confirm session dates with your child's coordinator rather than publishing IB dates we cannot verify.

Market rates shown with their sources

Every AED figure here is attributed to the page or cost table that published it and the month it was read. Our own rate follows the free trial, because it depends on subject, level and how close the May session is.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Yasmeen: your questions answered

Is there an IB home tutor in Al Yasmeen who has actually taught the Diploma?+

Within Al Yasmeen itself, unlikely. The IB is a minority curriculum in the UAE compared with the British and Indian systems, so Diploma specialists are scarce nationally and scarcer inside one villa district. Most locally available tutors are British-curriculum teachers who will treat the Diploma as A Level with extra paperwork, and that approach misses the Internal Assessment entirely. IB Gram matches on the subject and level instead, then delivers the lesson one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. No tutor comes to an Ajman address; home visits are offered in India only.

How can I tell in one conversation whether a tutor knows the IB?+

Ask three questions. Which criteria is the Internal Assessment in my child's subject marked on, by letter? Which criterion carries the most marks? How long may the Theory of Knowledge essay be? A tutor who has worked with the programme will name criteria A to E for a mathematics exploration, will tell you that criterion E carries six of twenty marks, and will know the essay cap is 1,600 words. Someone who talks about building confidence and exam technique instead has told you they have not supervised an Internal Assessment.

My son is in MYP Year 4. Is it too early to start tutoring?+

It is the best time, and the cheapest. Middle Years support costs less per hour than Diploma support and prevents the expensive problem: a student arriving in Diploma Year 1 without algebraic fluency, lab-report discipline or the habit of citing sources. One weekly session through MYP 4 and 5 is a smaller total spend than a single panicked Diploma spring. The other reason to start now is reading the report correctly, since criterion scores out of eight are routinely misread as percentages, hiding a specific weakness that shows up across every subject.

What exactly can a tutor do with my daughter's mathematics exploration?+

Teach the mathematics, explain what criteria A to E reward, discuss whether her chosen topic can generate genuine personal engagement, read the draft she has written and say which criterion each section fails, and set a timetable so it is not produced in one weekend. What a tutor cannot do is write any part of it, rewrite a paragraph into final form, or supply a model exploration to reshape. The exploration carries twenty marks and the IB treats it as her own work; buying one is a malpractice case she would carry, not the provider.

Does Ajman have an education regulator like KHDA or ADEK?+

No. Dubai's private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority and Abu Dhabi's by the Department of Education and Knowledge, but u.ae states that the Ministry of Education plays the supervisory role for private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority and Ras Al Khaimah the Department of Knowledge. For a parent in Al Yasmeen the practical consequence is that school-level queries go through the federal Ministry rather than an emirate-level authority. IB Gram claims no approval or accreditation from any of them.

Which IB session do schools in Ajman sit, and when should planning start?+

UAE schools sit the May Diploma session. Exact exam and results dates are set by the IB and should be confirmed with your child's Diploma coordinator rather than taken from any tutoring page, including this one. What governs the year in practice are the school's internal deadlines: the exploration submission, Extended Essay draft dates and the TOK exhibition. Those sit months before the papers and are where most lost marks originate. Ask for them in September and build the tuition plan backwards from them.

How much does Higher Level Diploma tutoring cost compared with Standard Level?+

Higher Level sits at the top of the published bands because the specialist pool is smaller. Across this market, budget online providers advertise from AED 33 to 65 an hour, Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 against IGCSE from AED 150, TutorChase quotes AED 270, and Bestimate's table puts specialist exam-year support at AED 200 to 450 and above, with one premium provider at AED 650. Standard Level work usually sits in the mid band. Those are published market figures read in October 2026, not IB Gram prices; ours is quoted after the free trial.

Can one tutor support both a Diploma subject and the Extended Essay?+

Often yes, if the essay sits in that subject. A chemistry tutor who understands the Extended Essay criteria can work on both, and there is an efficiency in it because the research question and the subject knowledge interact. Where it goes wrong is an essay in a different discipline: a maths tutor supervising a history essay will coach structure competently and miss what criterion B rewards in that subject. Ask whether the tutor has supervised an Extended Essay in the specific subject before combining the two roles.

Does online tuition work for a subject with a practical component?+

The practical work stays at school; the tutor prepares everything around it. For the sciences, the investigation is assessed on research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, and none of those four need a laboratory to teach. Choosing a measurable variable, controlling the method, handling uncertainties and writing an evaluation that names specific weaknesses are all screen-shareable work, and arguably better taught with the student's own data table open than in a crowded lab. What the school provides is the apparatus and the supervision of the practical itself.

What are the bonus points for TOK and the Extended Essay worth?+

Up to three points on the Diploma total of 45, awarded from a matrix that combines the grades for Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay. Those three points decide university offers more often than families expect, and they come from two components students treat as side tasks: an essay of up to 1,600 words on a prescribed title and a 4,000-word research essay marked on five criteria worth 34 marks. Starting both early is the cheapest way to secure them, because neither rewards work compressed into a single term.

My child goes to school in Sharjah. Does that change the session time?+

It changes it by roughly two hours. An Al Yasmeen family with children at an Ajman school can realistically start at 4.30pm or 5pm, because the journey home is short. A family driving back from Sharjah is looking at a 6.30pm or 7pm start with a break and a meal first, or a weekend morning instead. Booking a session into the window when a teenager is tired and hungry buys attendance rather than learning. Lessons run on Gulf Standard Time, so the slot agreed is the slot at home.

How many hours does a Higher Level subject usually need across two years?+

One weekly hour across both Diploma years is roughly seventy sessions of term time, and that is the common pattern for a subject a student intends to continue at university. A single component in trouble needs far less: a focused block of six to ten hours on Paper 3 technique or on an Internal Assessment is often enough. The expensive version is leaving a Higher Level subject until the second half of Diploma Year 2, where the same grade movement needs more hours in fewer weeks at specialist rates.

Will the tutor give us past papers and mark schemes?+

No, and any provider who offers to is distributing material they do not own. IB past papers, mark schemes, subject guides and grade-boundary tables belong to the IB, and reproducing or supplying them is a copyright matter. A tutor references them, works from material your child's school has already issued, and points you to the official source. There is a practical advantage in that: the school's version is the one in force for your child's cohort, and syllabus revisions change both content and criteria between years of first assessment.

What should the first month of IB tutoring actually produce?+

Three things you can see. A named list of the components and criteria where marks are currently being lost, based on marked work rather than impressions. A short written plan with the school's internal deadlines on it. And at least one piece of the student's own work improved against a specific criterion, so the difference is visible in a mark and not just in confidence. If after six weeks none of those exist, the plan needs changing or the tutor does, and changing early costs a fortnight rather than a grade.

Test for the criteria, then book the hour

The search for an IB home tutor in Al Yasmeen is really a search for Diploma fluency, and that is testable in ten minutes. Ask which criteria the Internal Assessment is marked on, which one carries the most marks, and how long the Theory of Knowledge essay may be. Send us the subject, the level and the component in trouble, take the free trial, and ask the tutor to mark a page of your child's draft aloud against the criteria. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, at an hour that holds through a crowded term. Nobody arrives at your gate, and nothing here suggests otherwise.
