IB Home Tutor in Al Zorah, Ajman

A parent looking for an IB home tutor in Al Zorah is asking a question nobody answers straight: is there anyone within reach who genuinely knows my child's course? Not International Baccalaureate in general, but their subject, their level, and the option topics their school chose. This page shows how to test that claim in one message, and says plainly when the answer is no. Lessons run live online.

  • Matched on subject, level and the option topics the school actually chose
  • A stated coverage answer, including when the answer is no
  • Lessons live over video; no tutor is sent to any UAE address
  • Free trial taught by a specialist, or no trial offered at all

IB & IGCSE in Al Zorah

The question nobody answers straight

Al Zorah is the least dense part of Ajman: low-rise waterfront development along the northern lagoon, a nature reserve, a golf course and a small resident population spread across a lot of ground. There is no school inside it. Every child living here travels, often a long way, and the nearest cluster of people who might tutor privately is several kilometres and a traffic-dependent twenty minutes away. If proximity is going to fail anywhere in the emirate, it fails here first.

That makes the real question visible, which is useful. A parent in Al Zorah cannot pretend that the nearest available tutor is probably fine, because there is no nearest available tutor. So the question becomes the right one from the start: does this person actually know my child's course? Not the International Baccalaureate as an idea, not the Diploma in general, but Chemistry at Higher Level with the option content this particular school teaches, assessed against the criteria in the guide the school works from.

Most of the market cannot answer that, and the reason is structural rather than dishonest. A Diploma candidate carries six subjects, three at Higher Level, and several courses allow the school to choose among content options. Two students both studying Higher Level biology at two Ajman schools may have been taught different option material and will sit papers shaped around it. A tutor who has taught one and not the other is not interchangeable, and 'IB tutor, all subjects' is a claim no individual can support.

IB Gram does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we offer only in India. Lessons for Al Zorah families are live, one-to-one, over video on Gulf Standard Time, which is the only arrangement that makes the verification question answerable at all. Once the pool is everybody teaching that course in this time zone rather than everybody within a twenty-minute drive of the lagoon, there is at least a chance that the specific person exists.

This page is about verification. What 'knows the syllabus' means in Diploma terms. The option-topic problem and why it defeats local search. The three distinct ways a tutor can be wrong about an International Baccalaureate course. How to test a claim in a single message before any money changes hands. What we say when nobody is available, which happens and should be said. What a subject guide contains, since that is the document the whole argument rests on. And the coursework boundary, which is where an unqualified tutor does the most damage.

Nothing here requires a parent to learn the course. It requires two short messages, one to the school and one to whoever you are considering, and a willingness to read the second reply sceptically rather than gratefully.

At a glance

  • Al Zorah has no school and no realistic local tutoring market
  • Several Diploma courses allow the school to choose content options
  • 'All subjects' is a claim no single Diploma teacher can support
  • Verification is a four-question message, not a credential check

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Each programme can be known well or known vaguely, and the difference shows in different places. These notes name what genuine familiarity looks like at each stage, which is what a parent is trying to detect.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary inquiry with portfolio assessment and a final-year exhibition. There is no syllabus in the conventional sense, so a tutor claiming PYP expertise should be able to describe how the school's units of inquiry are structured and what the exhibition requires. Someone who talks only about topics is describing a different kind of primary teaching.

For an Al Zorah family the practical test at this stage is narrow: two diagnostic sessions on number fluency and reading comprehension will show whether there is anything to act on. That is a cheaper answer than a term of general support bought on a worry, and it does not depend on anybody knowing a syllabus.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight, converted to a 1-7 grade through a published boundary table. A tutor who knows the programme will name the criteria for the subject they teach and describe what evidence each one requires. One who talks about covering the content is describing the smallest part of the mark.

MYP is the easiest programme to test a claim about, because the criteria are specific and a tutor either uses the language or does not. For families here, that makes an MYP trial lesson unusually diagnostic: within twenty minutes it is clear whether the person is teaching to the assessment or to the topic.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, each with written papers and an internally assessed component worth roughly a fifth to a quarter of the grade, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Several courses carry school-selected content, so knowing the course means knowing which version the school teaches.

Diploma candidates at Ajman and Sharjah schools sit the May session. No examination or results date is published on this page: the organisation's own site blocks automated retrieval and none could be verified, so your child's International Baccalaureate coordinator is the authority on every date.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Diploma courses alongside a career-related study, a reflective project and service learning. The Diploma courses inside it are assessed exactly as they are for a full Diploma candidate, so the verification questions on this page apply to them without modification.

No Ajman school is a significant provider, so students here following this route have transferred elsewhere. Support concentrates on the Diploma subjects within the programme, which is also the part where a tutor's claim to know the course can be tested properly.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

For each subject below, the description names the specific thing a tutor must know beyond the content. These are the details that separate someone who has taught the course from someone who has read about it.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Must know which structure the school's guide uses, how the internal assessment is marked, and the arithmetic conventions that cost marks in data questions. A tutor who cannot say what an arrow means in a reaction mechanism, as a claim about electrons rather than a drawing habit, has not taught the course recently.

Biology

HL and SL

Must know the command terms that separate a 5 from a 7 and the statistical choices the internal assessment requires. Biology is the subject where content fluency most convincingly imitates course fluency, which makes it the one where verification matters most.

Physics

HL and SL

Must be fluent in uncertainty propagation for the internal assessment and in the precision the multiple-choice section demands. A tutor who treats units and prefixes as presentation rather than content will leave a student losing marks on correct physics.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Must know that Paper 1 is sat without a calculator, that Higher Level Paper 3 is an extended investigation rather than a question set, and what the exploration criteria reward. Any of those three being news to a tutor answers the question for you.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Must know that the calculator is assumed throughout and that the exploration usually needs genuine collected data. A tutor who conflates this course with Analysis and Approaches is describing a course your child is not sitting.

Economics

HL and SL

Must know that the internal assessment is a set of commentaries on published articles, each with a word limit, and that article choice caps the mark before writing begins. Diagram discipline is the other test: axis labelling is where the marks quietly go.

Business Management

HL and SL

Must know that the Higher Level case study is pre-released and what that changes about preparation, and must be able to describe what an evaluation question requires beyond a list of advantages. Most candidates never make the judgement the marks are for.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Must know the components, including the individual oral with its recording date and its criteria, and at Higher Level the separate essay. A tutor who discusses only literary analysis is describing half the course, since non-literary texts carry equal weight.

Arabic B and Arabic ab initio

HL, SL and ab initio

Must know which of the two courses the student is on, because the assumptions about fluency differ completely, and must know the five prescribed themes and the assessment structure. Being a fluent Arabic speaker is not the same as knowing this course.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Must know that the internal assessment is a documented solution marked largely on planning and evaluation rather than on the quality of the program. Students arrive able to code and unable to document, and a tutor from a software background often shares that weakness.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Each format below assumes the specialist is not local, which for an Al Zorah family is simply the factual starting point.

Verified specialist, weekly

One subject at one level, taught by someone who has taught that course and can say which version of it. The match is proposed with that information stated, so the parent can check it rather than take it on trust, and the trial lesson tests it on real material from the student's own course.

  • Subject, level and school-selected content stated at match
  • Trial taught on the student's current topic, not a sample lesson
  • Same tutor weekly, with a specification-matched replacement if needed
  • Slots to 9.30pm Gulf Standard Time for long commutes

Internal assessment and core coaching

Criterion-led work on the student's own draft for an internal assessment, the Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge. This is the format where an unverified tutor does the most harm, because bad advice on a research question costs a mark that cannot be recovered later.

  • Criteria named by letter with their mark allocations
  • Research question narrowed before data collection
  • Supervisor deadlines respected, never duplicated
  • No drafting, no editing to completion, no supplied text

Waiting list with a usable interim plan

Where no specialist in your subject and level is free, you go on a list with a realistic date and get a short written interim plan: what the student should work on alone, which past papers to attempt, and what to bring to the first session when it happens. That is more useful than a generalist and considerably cheaper.

  • A stated date rather than an indefinite wait
  • A written self-study sequence in the meantime
  • No charge for the interim plan
  • Honest when the wait will run past a deadline

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Zorah

01

What 'knows the syllabus' means in the Diploma

  • Content, including which school-selected version applies
  • Assessment architecture: papers, durations, weightings
  • Internal assessment criteria and their mark allocations
  • The course-specific places candidates lose marks

In a national examination system, knowing the syllabus means knowing one document. In the Diploma it means knowing four things, and a tutor can be solid on one or two of them while being useless on the rest, which is why vague claims survive so easily.

The first is content, including which school-selected material applies. Several Diploma courses allow a school to choose among content options or to emphasise particular material, so two candidates in the same subject at the same level can be taught different things and will meet papers shaped around what they were taught. A tutor who has not asked which version your child studies has not begun to answer the question.

The second is assessment architecture: how many papers, how long, what weighting, what each one rewards. A student revising evenly across components that carry 20 and 44 per cent of the grade is misallocating their time, and only a tutor who knows the weightings can correct that. The third is the internal assessment and its criteria, which carry roughly a fifth to a quarter of each subject grade and are marked against published descriptors with uneven allocations.

The fourth is the examiner's habits: where candidates in that specific course reliably lose marks. Unit discipline in physics. Significant figures in chemistry data questions. Command-term failures in biology. Axis labelling in economics diagrams. These are not general study skills; they are course-specific patterns, and a teacher who has marked or taught the course can list them in a sentence. Someone who cannot has not been close enough to the marking to help with it.

02

The option-topic problem, and why it defeats a local search

School-selected content is the detail that quietly destroys the premise of neighbourhood tutoring in the Diploma. In a national system, every candidate in a subject sits the same paper from the same content list. In the Diploma, the school's choices within a course mean a tutor needs to know not just the subject and level but the particular configuration your child's school teaches.

Multiply that out and the local supply problem becomes arithmetic rather than opinion. Six subjects, two levels, several courses with school-selected elements, and a small emirate. The number of people within reach of Al Zorah who have taught your child's exact configuration recently is, for most subjects, zero, and for the remainder one or two who are probably not free at the hour your child is home.

The same arithmetic explains something parents find puzzling, which is why a tutor who came highly recommended by another family turned out to be a poor fit. The recommendation was honest. The other family's child was at a different school, sitting a different configuration, possibly at a different level. Nothing in a recommendation surfaces that, because the person recommending does not know what to mention.

The practical response is to make the configuration part of the request. Ask the subject teacher which options or content selections the school teaches for each course, write them down, and give them to anybody you are considering. A specialist will react to that information; a generalist will treat it as administrative detail, and that reaction is the answer you were looking for.

03

Three distinct ways a tutor can be wrong about an IB course

  • Wrong curriculum: good teaching, wrong assessment model, surfaces at mocks
  • Wrong level: works for two terms, fails on the Higher Level extension
  • Wrong configuration: invisible until final-term paper practice
  • All three are prevented by one question asked before booking

Not all mismatches are the same, and the three kinds fail at different points in the year, which is why some go undetected for months. Knowing the three makes it possible to spot a problem before the mock window rather than after it.

The first is the wrong curriculum entirely. A teacher fluent in A Levels or in a national curriculum, teaching Diploma content with a different assessment model in mind. This is often good teaching producing poor marks: the physics is correct, the student can do the problems, and nobody has worked on the internal assessment's uncertainty requirements or the multiple-choice precision. It surfaces at the first mock and is sometimes blamed on the student.

The second is the right curriculum and the wrong level. Someone comfortable with Standard Level teaching a Higher Level student, which works for two terms and then fails, because the Higher Level extension material and the additional paper arrive late in the course. By then the student is behind in the part of the subject that distinguishes their grade, and the time to fix it has gone.

The third is the right level and the wrong configuration: the correct course, the correct level, and the content options the tutor knows are not the ones the school teaches. This is the hardest to detect because everything looks right for most of the year. It shows up in the final term when paper practice reveals material the student has never met, which is the worst possible moment to discover it.

04

How to test the claim in one message

  • Which papers, how long each, what weighting
  • What the internal assessment is worth and what its criteria are called
  • Which content selections they have taught, and when
  • Where candidates in that course lose marks

The verification does not require a parent to understand the course, which is the useful part. It requires four questions whose answers are either specific or evasive, and the difference is audible in the first sentence of each.

Ask: which papers does my child sit for this subject at this level, and how long is each one? What proportion of the grade is the internal assessment, and what are its criteria called? Which content selections or options have you taught for this course, and when? And where do candidates in this course most reliably lose marks, in your experience of marking or teaching it?

A specialist answers all four in a few lines, with numbers in them. The weightings come out without hesitation. The criteria are named rather than described. The content answer includes a school or a year. The marks answer is concrete and slightly boring: unit prefixes, significant figures, command terms, a particular topic where the papers are harsher than the textbook suggests. None of it sounds like marketing, because it is not.

A generalist produces warmth and generality. Years of experience. A love of the subject. An emphasis on confidence and building rapport. All of that may be true and none of it answers what was asked. The tell is not the absence of credentials; it is the absence of numbers. Ask the four questions in one message and read the reply once. The decision is usually obvious.

05

What we say when nobody is available

A page that only explains how to find a specialist is half a page. The other half is what happens when the specialist does not exist in your window, which in a small emirate for a thinly taught Higher Level course is a real outcome rather than a hypothetical.

Our answer is to say so, with a date. No competitor page in this search segment discloses a coverage limit, and several route enquiries to a sales conversation that ends with somebody being offered whoever is free. That produces the first failure mode described above: good teaching, wrong assessment model, discovered at the mock. It is a worse outcome than waiting, and considerably worse than being told the truth in week one.

What we offer instead is a waiting position with a realistic date and a short written interim plan at no charge: what to work on alone, which past papers to attempt and in what order, and what to bring to the first session when a slot opens. For a motivated Diploma student that is often enough to hold ground for a term. It is not as good as teaching and it is honest about being less.

Where the wait would run past a deadline that matters, such as an internal assessment submission, we say that too, and the sensible advice may be to find a local tutor for that specific piece of work or to lean harder on the school's own supervisor, who is paid to support it. That advice costs us the booking, and giving it is the only version of this service worth running at a scale where nobody can be a specialist in everything.

The subject guide is the document everything rests on

Everything on this page depends on one artefact: the subject guide for each course, which sets out content, assessment structure, weightings and the criteria for the internal assessment. A tutor who knows the course knows that document for the version your child's school is teaching, and a parent who knows it exists can ask the one question that settles most doubts.

Guides are revised on their own cycles, which is why a teacher's experience from several years ago can be partly out of date. A course that has been revised may have different assessment weightings, a restructured internal assessment or reorganised content, and a tutor working from memory of the previous version will teach competently towards the wrong target. Asking which version of the guide they work from is not pedantic; it is the single most informative question available.

What a parent should not do is try to obtain and read the guide themselves, or ask a tutor to supply one. These are the organisation's copyright documents, along with past papers and mark schemes, and reproducing or distributing them is not something a legitimate tutor will offer. The school holds the guide for each course and the subject teacher can summarise the relevant parts in a conversation, which is the proper route.

The practical sequence is therefore simple. Ask the subject teacher which guide version applies and which content selections the school teaches. Give that to the tutor. Listen to whether the answer that comes back engages with it. That is the whole verification, and it costs one message to the school and one to the tutor.

07

Where an unqualified tutor does the most damage

  • Internal assessment errors close permanently; paper weaknesses do not
  • A capped research question is the commonest avoidable loss
  • Purchased coursework risks the Diploma itself
  • The tutor's refusal is part of what you are buying

The worst consequences of a mismatched tutor are not in the written papers, where a student can recover with good late teaching. They are in the internal assessment and the core components, because those close permanently and because bad advice there is confidently given.

A tutor who does not know the criteria will approve a research question that cannot be answered within the word limit, and the mark is capped before any data are collected. They will encourage a student to add more content to a piece where the marks sit in reflection and evaluation. They will treat the Extended Essay as a research exercise when critical thinking carries more than a third of the available marks. Each of those is a plausible instruction given in good faith, and each costs marks that no later work recovers.

There is a worse version, and it exists in this market. Services offer to produce coursework outright, with one site in this search segment selling completed Internal Assessments at a published price. For a Diploma candidate, submitting purchased work is an academic-honesty breach whose consequences can extend to the loss of the Diploma, and the detection route is mundane: a supervisor who has read the student's work all year notices when the voice changes.

Legitimate help is narrow and effective. Read the draft, ask where the evidence supports the claim, explain what each criterion requires as evidence, cut the research question to something answerable, teach the student to read their own paragraph as a moderator will. A tutor does not write, rewrite to a finished state or supply text, and should decline if asked. In the weeks when deadlines converge, that refusal is the most valuable thing the arrangement provides.

Where we tutor

Al Zorah and the communities a tutor would travel from

These notes describe each community as a potential source of in-person tutoring for an Al Zorah family, which is the practical question when you live where nothing is close.

Al Zorah

Low-rise waterfront development on the northern lagoon with a nature reserve and golf course, no school inside it, and a small, spread-out population. No realistic local tutoring market of any kind.

Al Nuaimiya

The nearest dense residential district and the emirate's largest informal tutoring market. Twenty minutes away in good traffic, longer in the early evening, and overwhelmingly generalist in what it offers.

Al Rashidiya

Central and reachable, with a mixed curriculum population. A tutor travelling from here to Al Zorah for one hour is spending more time in the car than in the lesson, which shows up in the quoted rate.

Al Mowaihat

Nearest the western schools and the emirate's main International Baccalaureate provision, so the likeliest place a Diploma-literate teacher lives. Also the furthest practical drive to the lagoon.

Al Rawda

Settled villa sub-communities with small, stable cohorts. Any tutor serving both Al Rawda and Al Zorah in one evening loses most of it to travel between them.

Al Jurf

University and hospital district, which means more academically trained households than elsewhere in Ajman. Those households tend to be time-poor rather than available for evening tutoring.

Emirates City

Towers near the highway, closer to the main road network than to Al Zorah itself. Convenient for a tutor who teaches several students in one building and inconvenient for one who does not.

Ajman Corniche

Seafront apartments with a notable number of teaching families. The best local supply in English and the humanities in the emirate, and still a drive that a single weekly hour does not justify.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Zorah

Schools Al Zorah children travel to within Ajman

There is no school in Al Zorah, so every child here commutes. Private schools in Ajman are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, and the emirate's International Baccalaureate provision is concentrated in a small number of schools to the west of the city.

  • Ajman Academy
  • GEMS Cambridge International School - Ajman
  • Ajman Modern School
  • Habitat School Ajman
  • Al Ameer English School
  • Woodlem Park School, Ajman

Sharjah Diploma schools within commuting range

Private education in Sharjah is regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which also approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Several Diploma cohorts are reachable from Al Zorah, at the cost of a long morning run.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Scholars International Academy

  • Wesgreen International School

Named schools are local context for the communities we support; IB Gram has no affiliation with, or endorsement from, any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask the school two questions first

Which content selections or options the school teaches for each of your child's subjects, and which guide version applies. The subject teacher answers both in a sentence. With that information any tutor can be tested properly, and without it nobody can, including us.

  2. 02

Send the subject, level and configuration

Not 'IB chemistry' but the level and the content the school teaches, plus the internal assessment deadline dates if you have them. In a programme with school-selected content this is the difference between a match and a guess presented as a match.

  3. 03

Read the match statement before the trial

We say which course, level and content version the proposed tutor has taught, and when. That statement is checkable and it is the thing to read sceptically. If it is vague, say so and we will either tighten it or tell you we cannot.

  4. 04

Free trial on your child's current topic

One lesson at no charge with no payment details collected, on whatever your child is actually stuck on this week. A specialist will work on it immediately; a generalist will want to assess first. That difference is the most reliable test available in an hour.

  5. 05

Take the waiting list if that is the honest answer

Where no specialist is free, you get a date and a written interim plan at no cost. For a motivated student that often holds ground for a term, and it is better than six weeks with somebody working from the wrong assessment model.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on configuration, not on subject

Several Diploma courses carry school-selected content, so a match states the level and the content version the tutor has taught. That is a checkable claim rather than a reassurance, and it is the one that prevents a mismatch surfacing in the final term.

A coverage answer, including no

Where nobody suitable is free in your window, you are told with a realistic date rather than offered whoever is available. No competitor page in this segment discloses a coverage limit, which is exactly how families end up with good teaching aimed at the wrong assessment.

Verification handed to the parent

The four questions on this page work on anybody, including us, and they need no prior knowledge of the course. A parent who asks them once will never again be in a position where a mismatch goes undetected for a term.

An interim plan when there is a wait

A written self-study sequence at no charge, with the papers to attempt and the order to attempt them in. It is less useful than teaching and says so, and it is considerably more useful than a generalist at a specialist price.

No copyright material supplied

We do not distribute subject guides, past papers or mark schemes. Those are the boards' documents, held by your school, and a tutor offering to supply them is telling you something about how they operate.

No claimed approvals, no invented numbers

IB Gram holds no International Baccalaureate, regulator or examination-board accreditation, has no UAE premises, and publishes no success statistic because we could not produce the data behind one. Where a date could not be verified, this page omits it.

A specialist answers with numbers in a few lines. A generalist answers with warmth and no figures, which is the tell.

Why does the school's choice of content options matter to a tutor?+

Because several Diploma courses allow the school to choose among content options or emphasise particular material, and the papers a student meets are shaped around what they were taught. Two candidates in the same subject at the same level at two Ajman schools can therefore need different teaching. A tutor who has taught one configuration and not the other looks correct for most of the year and is exposed in final-term paper practice.

Is there anyone in Al Zorah who tutors the IB Diploma?+

Realistically, no. Al Zorah is low-density waterfront development with a nature reserve and a golf course, no school inside it and a small, spread-out population. The nearest dense residential district is around twenty minutes away in good traffic. A visiting tutor serving one weekly hour here spends more time travelling than teaching, which is why local quotes are high and local specialist supply is effectively nil.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to Al Zorah?+

No. Home visits are a service IB Gram offers only in India, not anywhere in the UAE. Lessons for families here are live, one-to-one, over video on Gulf Standard Time, with the student's own work on a shared screen. Given where Al Zorah sits, that is also the only arrangement in which the verification question on this page has a positive answer: the pool becomes everybody teaching the course in this time zone rather than nobody within reach.

What are the three ways a tutor can be wrong about an IB subject?+

Wrong curriculum, where someone fluent in A Levels or a national system teaches correct content towards a different assessment model and it surfaces at the first mock. Wrong level, where a Standard Level teacher carries a Higher Level student for two terms and fails on the extension material. And wrong configuration, where the course and level are right but the content selections are not, which stays invisible until the final term. All three are prevented by asking before booking.

Can you give me my child's subject guide or past papers?+

No, and a tutor who offers to is telling you something useful about how they work. Subject guides, past papers and mark schemes are the organisation's copyright documents. Your child's school holds the guide for each course and the subject teacher can summarise the relevant parts, which is the proper route. What we can do is teach to those requirements and explain what each criterion asks for, using the student's own work.

What happens if you have no specialist for our subject?+

You are told in week one, with a realistic date for when a slot may open, plus a short written interim plan at no charge: what to work on alone, which past papers to attempt and in what order, and what to bring to the first session. For a motivated Diploma student that often holds ground for a term. If the wait would run past an internal assessment deadline, we say so and suggest the school supervisor or a local option instead.

Is a recommendation from another Ajman family reliable?+

It is reliable evidence about punctuality, manner and whether the tutor turns up, and no evidence at all about course match. The recommending family's child may be at a different school, on a different level, studying a different configuration. Nothing in the conversation surfaces that, because the person recommending does not know what to mention. Take the recommendation, then ask the four verification questions anyway.

Why should a tutor know the component weightings?+

Because a student revising evenly across components that carry very different shares of the grade is misallocating their time, and only someone who knows the weightings can correct it. Internal assessments typically carry roughly a fifth to a quarter of a subject grade, and the written papers differ from each other substantially. A tutor who cannot state the split for the course they claim to teach cannot build a sensible plan for the term.

Does experience with A Levels transfer to the Diploma?+

Partly, and the part that does not transfer is the part that decides the grade. Content overlaps substantially in mathematics and the sciences. Assessment does not: the Diploma's internal components, criterion marking, command-term conventions and paper structures are different, and the core components have no A Level equivalent. A teacher moving between the two can become fluent, and the question to ask is whether they have, not whether they could.

How quickly does a wrong match become obvious?+

It depends which of the three mismatches it is. Wrong curriculum usually shows at the first mock, when correct knowledge produces disappointing marks. Wrong level shows late in the first year, when the Higher Level extension arrives. Wrong configuration can stay hidden until the final term, when paper practice turns up material the student has never seen. That last case is the argument for verifying at the start rather than relying on the term to reveal it.

What should a trial lesson actually look like?+

It should start on the topic your child is stuck on this week and get into it within a few minutes. A specialist does that because they recognise the material and know where the difficulty usually sits. A generalist wants to assess first, discuss learning styles, and establish rapport, which is pleasant and uses the hour you were going to judge them on. Ask for the trial to be on a named topic and see what happens.

Can a tutor approve my child's internal assessment research question?+

A tutor can tell you whether it is answerable within the word limit and whether the available data can support the claims, which is the most valuable single piece of advice in the whole process. What they cannot do is approve it formally, which is the supervisor's role, or write any part of the resulting work. A question that is too broad caps the mark before data collection begins, and that is the commonest avoidable loss in the programme.

Is the long commute from Al Zorah a reason to tutor more?+

It is a reason to schedule differently rather than to buy more hours. A student losing ninety minutes a day to travel has less independent study time, and the first casualty is usually the long-form work: the Extended Essay reading, the internal assessment write-up. Protecting a Saturday morning block for that work does more than adding a weekday session, which lands on a student who is already at the end of a long day.

Ask the school, then test the claim

Two messages are all this needs. Ask your child's subject teacher which content selections the school teaches and which guide version applies. Then send us the subject, the level and that configuration, along with the evening hour that genuinely works in Al Zorah. We will reply with a match statement naming the course, level and content version the proposed tutor has taught, or with a date and a free interim plan if nobody is available. Either reply is checkable, which is more than the search results for this phrase currently offer.
