Cambridge IGCSE Economics 0455 Tutor in Ajman

A Cambridge IGCSE Economics 0455 tutor in Ajman is usually hired for one reason: Paper 2 carries seventy per cent of the grade, and the evaluation marks inside it are the ones being dropped. This page starts with money. It sets out what the market charges per hour in AED, which five things move that number in this emirate rather than in Dubai, and what a 0455 session actually repairs. Lessons run live online, one-to-one, on Gulf Standard Time, and the first one costs nothing.

  • Paper 2 carries 70% of the 0455 grade; Paper 1 carries 30%
  • Every AED band on this page is attributed to its published source
  • Sessions scheduled around Ajman school runs and Dubai commute hours

IB & IGCSE in Ajman

What a 0455 tutor costs in Ajman, and what the price is actually buying

Start with the number, because it is the question Ajman parents ask second and the one most tutoring websites refuse to answer. Across the UAE market a qualified subject tutor working online is quoted between AED 150 and AED 300 an hour; Unitors publishes AED 150 as its IGCSE starting rate and AED 200 for IB. Generalist and undergraduate tutors sit lower: EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to AED 65, Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52. Specialists in examined subjects run from AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and BartyED at AED 650 for a named premium tutor. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table puts in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to AED 350, and independent home tutors at AED 200 to AED 500 once travel is priced in. Those are figures the named providers and that survey published. They are not an IB Gram price list.

Ajman changes the arithmetic in ways Dubai does not. The emirate is small, its private-school set is compact, and a large share of parents work in Dubai or Sharjah, which pushes the realistic start of a weekday session past seven in the evening. Somebody driving up from Dubai for a 7.30pm lesson in Al Rawda or Al Mowaihat is not selling sixty minutes of teaching; they are selling two hours of their evening, and the quote reflects it. That travel block is the largest hidden component in an in-home figure here, and it is the one component remote delivery removes completely rather than reducing.

Economics is also a thin subject locally. Most Ajman private schools run one or two Economics sets in total across Years 10 and 11, taught by somebody who also covers Business Studies or Geography. That is normal for a small cohort and it is not a criticism of the schools. It does mean the number of people inside the emirate who have marked a Paper 2 data response against the published Cambridge scheme is small, and scarcity in a small pool shows up as price. Opening the search to specialists who teach 0455 remotely swaps a geographic pool for a subject pool, which is the structural reason the online band sits below the in-home band rather than above it.

What the money buys, spent well, is diagnosis rather than revision. A 0455 session that works starts from a marked script: which questions, which command words, which of the six syllabus sections. IB Gram delivers that as one-to-one tuition over live video, with the data-response extract and the mark scheme open on a shared screen. We do not visit homes in Ajman or anywhere else in the UAE; in-home visiting is a service IB Gram offers only in India. The comparison table further down sets out what each format costs and what each one includes, so the decision rests on evidence rather than habit.

The rest of this page follows the same order: what it costs, what changes the cost, what the two papers demand, and what the first six weeks look like in practice. Every AED figure carries the provider or survey it came from. Every syllabus statement can be checked against the Cambridge International subject page for 0455 at cambridgeinternational.org.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Cambridge IGCSE Economics 0455 sits inside a longer route, and Ajman families arrive at it from three directions: a British-curriculum Year 9, an Indian-curriculum Grade 9 moving across, or an IB MYP cohort choosing options. What follows is where 0455 fits, what it feeds into, and what each stage tends to cost in tutoring hours.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE (Years 10-11)

Two years of separately graded courses, usually six to nine subjects, with Economics 0455 as one option. There is no portfolio and no practical component: the entire grade comes from Paper 1 and Paper 2 sat in a single series. That makes the final six months unusually decisive compared with a science or a creative subject, where part of the grade is already banked before study leave begins.

In Ajman, 0455 is typically taught in one set per year group. A student who misses the allocation-of-resources unit in Year 10 can therefore reach Year 11 with that gap never revisited in class, because there is no parallel set running the topic again. Private tuition in this emirate is most often remedial for exactly that structural reason rather than accelerative.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level Economics (9708)

The natural continuation for a student who enjoyed 0455. AS Level adds diagrammatic precision and real elasticity calculation; A Level adds market failure, labour markets and policy conflict. A strong 0455 grade is not formally required at most schools in the northern emirates, but students arriving without the diagram discipline that 0455 builds spend their first AS term rebuilding it instead of moving forward.

Several Ajman students cross into Sharjah or Dubai for sixth form because their own school does not run 9708. Planning that move during Year 11 rather than after results arrive is the difference between a place and a waiting list, and it changes what a 0455 tutoring plan should prioritise: a predicted grade that stands up on an application.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme Economics

The other post-16 route, taken at SL or HL. The Diploma replaces 0455's structured questions with examination papers plus an internal assessment built from commentaries on published news articles. The economic thinking carries over; the writing does not. Students who treat a Diploma commentary like a 0455 essay lose criterion marks for failing to apply one named theory to that specific article.

Ajman Academy is the emirate's IB route, so a 0455 student heading for Diploma Economics without leaving Ajman has one realistic destination locally. Students we support in that position usually begin a terminology bridge in the summer between Year 11 and the first Diploma year, because the command-word vocabulary changes completely.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB MYP Individuals and Societies

Where Ajman's IB cohort meets economic content before any syllabus code appears. MYP assesses against four criteria — knowing and understanding, investigating, communicating, and thinking critically — rather than against timed papers. A student moving from MYP 5 into a Cambridge IGCSE in Year 10 or 11 usually has the analytical habit already and lacks only the mark-scheme discipline.

Transfers between Ajman's MYP and Cambridge streams happen mid-key-stage more often than prospectuses suggest, usually when a family changes school for fee or commute reasons. Six to eight weeks of targeted support closes the assessment-style gap, and it is cheaper to buy those weeks at the point of transfer than to buy a rescue block in Year 11.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

0455 is rarely the only pressure in the house. The subjects below are the ones Ajman families most often fold into the same tutoring plan, with what each actually assesses and where the marks go. The rate bands in the tables on this page apply across all of them, because the market prices by level rather than by subject.

Economics (0455)

Single tier, Cambridge IGCSE

This page's subject. Six syllabus sections, two papers, no coursework. Lost marks concentrate in Paper 2's data response and in the longer discuss questions, where students describe a situation instead of weighing two sides and reaching a judgement.

Business Studies (0450)

Single tier, Cambridge IGCSE

Frequently taken alongside 0455 and frequently confused with it. 0450 splits evenly between a short-answer paper and a case study, and it rewards application to the named business in the booklet rather than general theory.

Mathematics (0580)

Core and Extended

Extended is the tier Ajman schools default to for students aiming at sixth-form sciences or economics. The assessment now carries a non-calculator paper, which caught a cohort who had never practised arithmetic unaided.

Accounting (0452)

Single tier, Cambridge IGCSE

The third commerce option. Double entry is learned quickly and forgotten faster; the real marks sit in control accounts, year-end adjustments and the interpretation of ratios rather than in bookkeeping mechanics.

Geography (0460)

Single tier, Cambridge IGCSE

Shares the data-handling skill 0455 needs. A student who reads a 0460 resource booklet well usually reads a 0455 extract well, and weakness in one is a reliable predictor of weakness in the other.

English as a Second Language (0510 / 0511)

Core and Extended

The paper that quietly caps 0455 marks. A student who cannot structure a two-sided argument in English loses evaluation marks regardless of how securely they understand price elasticity of demand.

Computer Science (0478)

Single tier, Cambridge IGCSE

Two equally weighted papers: computer systems, then algorithms, programming and logic. Pseudocode accuracy and trace tables decide the grade far more often than coding fluency does.

Physics (0625)

Core and Extended

Sat with a practical or alternative-to-practical paper worth a fifth of the grade. The Extended supplement content is where A and A* separate, and it is the part a thin local teaching set is most likely to compress.

Chemistry (0620)

Core and Extended

Moles, electrolysis and organic chemistry account for most lost marks. The choice between the practical test and the alternative-to-practical paper is made by the school, not by the student or the tutor.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats are available for 0455, and the right one depends on how far from the series your child is and on whether the syllabus is missing or merely shaky. All three run over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and all three start with a free trial lesson so the match is tested before anything is paid.

Weekly one-to-one, 60 minutes

The default for a Year 10 student, or for a Year 11 student working comfortably ahead of the series. One paper-based skill per session, with the previous week's homework already marked before the lesson begins so the hour goes on correction rather than discovery. Most Ajman families place this at 7pm or later on a weekday.

  • One syllabus section per fortnight, tracked against the published 0455 contents list
  • Marked homework returned before the session, not after it
  • A running list of the command words the student still misreads
  • A short written summary to the parent after every fourth session

Intensive block, two sessions a week

For a Year 11 student inside three months of the paper with gaps across two or more of the six sections. One session repairs content, the second is timed paper practice under exam conditions with the published mark scheme applied afterwards. This is the format where the AED total matters most, which is why the arithmetic sits openly on this page rather than inside a quote.

  • Two 60-minute sessions a week, most often Sunday and Wednesday
  • One full Paper 2 every fortnight, marked against the published scheme
  • Section-by-section score tracking, so the plan changes when the evidence does
  • A fixed stop date, so the block ends rather than drifting into a subscription

Paper 2 clinic, four to six sessions

A short, finite block for a student whose content knowledge is sound and whose marks are not. Everything happens inside Paper 2: reading the extract, answering the two- and four-mark questions without padding, and building a two-sided answer to the longer discuss question that finishes with a judgement rather than a summary.

  • Four to six sessions, booked as a block with a stated end point
  • Every session built on one real past data-response question
  • Evaluation structure drilled until it happens without prompting
  • No open-ended commitment and no rolling monthly charge

01

What a Cambridge IGCSE Economics 0455 tutor costs in Ajman, in AED

The direct answer first. In Ajman, a qualified Economics tutor working online is quoted inside the AED 150 to AED 300 an hour band that applies across the UAE. An examined-subject specialist with mark-scheme experience sits in the AED 200 to AED 450 band and above. A generalist or undergraduate tutor can be found between AED 45 and AED 150. In-home one-to-one, where somebody local covers the subject at all, is quoted between AED 180 and AED 500 an hour once travel is counted. Each of those figures comes from a provider's own published rate card or from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 survey, and each is attributed in the table below.

Hourly rates mislead, because almost nobody buys a single hour. The packages visible in this market are AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for one weekly hour run AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. A Year 11 student on two 0455 sessions a week from January to the series roughly doubles the mid-band monthly figure, and that doubled number is the one worth planning a household budget against.

What a band cannot tell you is what sits inside the hour. At AED 60 the hour is almost always explanation: the tutor talks, the student listens, nothing is marked. At AED 250 the hour should arrive with your child's last script already read and annotated, and should end with a specific instruction for the week. Those are different products at a similar-sounding price point, and the only way to tell them apart before paying is to ask what will be marked, by whom, and when it comes back. A tutor who cannot answer that is selling the cheaper product at the higher price.

The five things that move the number in Ajman rather than in Dubai

A rate card is a national average; a quote is local. Five forces push an Ajman figure away from the Dubai midpoint, and four of them have nothing to do with the tutor's ability. Knowing which one is inflating your quote tells you whether to negotiate, change the slot, or change the format entirely.

The largest is travel. Ajman's own supply of people who have taught 0455 to a Cambridge scheme is small, so an in-home tutor is usually driving in from Sharjah or Dubai. At 7pm that drive is not short, and the return leg is worse. Nobody absorbs ninety unpaid minutes indefinitely, so it is recovered through the hourly rate or through a two-hour minimum booking. The second force is the shape of the evening: because so many Ajman parents commute out of the emirate for work, demand collapses into the 7pm to 9pm window, and the slots inside that window carry a premium simply because everybody wants them.

The remaining three are subject scarcity, session length and timing. Economics is a small-cohort subject here, which moves it towards the specialist band rather than the general one. In-home packages in this market are sold as four two-hour blocks rather than eight one-hour sessions, which lowers the headline hourly figure while raising the monthly commitment. And rates firm up from January onwards as the main series approaches, in a shallow pool faster than in a deep one. A family that books in October is negotiating in a different market from a family that books in February, for the same lessons.

What Paper 1 and Paper 2 actually demand of a 0455 student

Cambridge IGCSE Economics 0455 is assessed by two written papers and nothing else. Paper 1 is a 45-minute multiple-choice paper worth 30% of the grade. Paper 2 runs for 2 hours 15 minutes and carries the remaining 70%: one compulsory data-response question built on a source extract, then three structured questions chosen from four. There is no portfolio, no practical and no internal assessment, which is why a weak series cannot be offset by work already banked. The full specification is published on the Cambridge International site under syllabus code 0455, and it is worth a parent reading the assessment overview once rather than relying on a summary.

Paper 1 looks like the easy half and is where competent students quietly lose five or six marks. The questions that do the damage are the diagram ones: identifying a shift of a demand curve versus a movement along it, reading a price ceiling correctly, or spotting which axis has been relabelled. These are recognition errors, not knowledge gaps, and they respond quickly to drilling — which is the one part of 0455 preparation a student can genuinely do alone with past papers.

Paper 2 is where tutoring earns its fee. The data-response question rewards students who use the extract as evidence and penalises students who paraphrase it back. The structured questions escalate from definition to analysis to evaluation, and the final part of each is usually the one left unanswered because time ran out on the third of the four. The single most common pattern in a marked Ajman script is a strong, accurate, one-sided answer to a question that asked for discussion: the economics is right, the command word was ignored, and the mark is capped before the examiner reaches the final sentence.

Three Ajman budgets, written out in full

Most families would rather see the total than the rate, so here are three plans with the arithmetic done. These are calculations on the market bands in the first table on this page, not IB Gram quotes: multiply the number of sessions by the AED 200 to AED 450 specialist band or the AED 150 to AED 300 qualified band and you get the same figures yourself. That is deliberate. A number you can reproduce is worth more than a number you have to trust.

The cheapest useful plan is the short clinic: five sessions aimed entirely at Paper 2 technique, for a student whose content is already there. The most expensive is the exam-term intensive, two sessions a week from January to the series, which is what a Year 11 student with gaps in two or more sections actually needs. Between them sits the plan that costs less per mark than either: weekly support through Year 10, when there is still time for repetition to do the work instead of urgency.

One warning about the arithmetic. Several families in this emirate buy the intensive in February after a disappointing set of mocks, which is the most expensive moment in the year to buy anything. The same money spent across Year 10 buys roughly three times the contact time and arrives before the gaps have compounded. If the choice is between starting late at a high rate and starting early at a moderate one, the early option is cheaper in both AED and stress — and a free trial lesson in October costs nothing to find out.

Online, in-home or a tuition centre: what each format does for 0455

Ajman families genuinely weigh three options, and the honest comparison is not flattering to any single one of them in every case. In-home tuition wins on supervision for a younger child who will not sit still without an adult in the room. A tuition centre wins on price per student for content coverage. Remote one-to-one wins on subject depth and on the proportion of the fee that becomes teaching rather than driving. For 0455 specifically — a subject with no practical component, where the raw material is an extract, a diagram and a mark scheme — the screen loses almost nothing.

IB Gram does not provide in-person tutoring in Ajman, and no sentence on this site should suggest otherwise: in-home visiting is a service we run only in India. That is a limit worth stating plainly rather than burying, because it tells you what you are comparing. What we do instead is match a 0455 specialist to your child and run the session over live video with a shared screen, so the mark scheme and the script sit side by side where both the tutor and the student can annotate them.

The practical test for any format is what happens to a marked paper. In the best in-home session the script is read in the room and corrected in front of the student. In a centre it usually comes back a week later with a grade and a tick. Over video it can be shared, highlighted, and rewritten live in the same document, which is the closest thing 0455 has to a practical skill. Ask whichever provider you are considering to describe that moment in detail. The answer separates the formats far more reliably than the price does.

Who regulates your child's school in Ajman, and why it changes the plan

  • Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah: federal Ministry of Education supervision
  • Dubai: KHDA, which publishes school-by-school inspection reports
  • Abu Dhabi and Al Ain: ADEK, which supervises licensing and accreditation
  • Sharjah: SPEA, which also approves fees, curricula and assessment methods
  • Ras Al Khaimah: Department of Knowledge, with the same fee and curriculum remit
  • Source for all five: the private-schools page on u.ae

Ajman's private schools are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, which u.ae describes as playing a supervisory role over private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. That is a meaningfully different arrangement from Dubai, where the Knowledge and Human Development Authority is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education and publishes inspection reports school by school, and from Abu Dhabi, where the Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools.

The practical consequence for a parent in Al Rawda or Al Nuaimiya is that there is no emirate-level inspection portal to consult before choosing a school or interpreting a report. What replaces it is direct enquiry: ask the school for its own Cambridge results profile by subject, and ask specifically how many students sat 0455 in the last series. A school entering eight candidates and a school entering forty-five are running different subjects under the same syllabus code, and the answer tells you more about the teaching set than any inspection band would.

Sharjah matters here too, because so many Ajman children attend school across the boundary. The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in that emirate and, like Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge, approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. So a family living in Ajman and schooling in Sharjah is working to a curriculum approved by one authority while living under another's jurisdiction. It rarely causes problems, but it does mean two term calendars, two sets of holiday dates, and a tutoring schedule that has to respect whichever one the child actually follows.

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or licence from any of these bodies, and no tutoring platform should imply otherwise. Naming a regulator and explaining what it does is useful to a parent. Claiming its endorsement is not something we are entitled to do.

07

Is the tutor you are paying legally permitted to teach in the UAE?

Private tutoring inside the UAE is a permitted activity, not an unregulated one. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and u.ae states that it is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time through the MoHRE app, website and e-services system.

Two consequences follow for a family in Ajman. First, anyone quoting you a fee for the permit itself is wrong, because no fee is published. Second, u.ae states that individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws — but no schedule of amounts has been published, and Khaleej Times reported that the ministry did not specify the fine amounts or detail the penalties. A figure circulating online could not be verified and is not repeated here. Any site quoting a precise fine is quoting something it cannot source.

There is a separate rule worth knowing if your child's own teacher offers help. Press reporting on Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules describes a prohibition on school staff giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct is reported to bar serving students affiliated with the tutor's school. Verify the current wording against the authority's own policy document before relying on it. The direction of travel is clear enough: your child's own class teacher is the wrong person to pay, and a parent who is told otherwise should ask to see the permit and the school's written consent.

The first step costs nothing and takes one message: tell us the school, the year group, the tier, and what the last marked Economics paper looked like. If you have a photograph of a marked Paper 2 script, send that instead of a description — it is worth more than any summary, because it shows which command words were misread and which of the six sections are actually weak. A free trial lesson follows, with the specialist who would teach the course rather than a salesperson, and nothing is paid before that lesson has happened.

Scheduling is agreed around your household rather than around ours. For most Ajman families that means a 7.30pm or 8pm weekday start, or a Saturday morning if a parent is driving back from Dubai during the week. Sessions are 60 minutes by default. Rescheduling with reasonable notice carries no charge, because a plan that punishes a family for a late Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road run is a plan that gets abandoned by March.

Now the part most platforms leave out. Economics specialists at this level are not always free at the hour you want, particularly in the January-to-series window when every Year 11 in the northern emirates wants the same evening slot. When that happens we say so and offer three honest options: a different time with the specialist you want, an available tutor whose 0455 experience we describe precisely rather than vaguely, or a place on the list with a date. We do not fill the gap with a generalist and call it a specialist. A parent who has been told the truth about availability once will believe the next thing we say about their child.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Ajman

Ajman is compact enough that distance barely registers on a map and matters enormously on a Tuesday evening. Below is what each area does to a tutoring timetable: when a session can realistically start, which school day the children in it are following, and why weekend slots behave differently here.

Al Nuaimiya

Dense and central, close to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street. Children here are often at Ajman's Indian-curriculum schools, and a 5pm start genuinely works — which is unusual in this emirate.

Al Rawda

Inland villa district. Parents driving back from Dubai rarely clear the Ajman approaches before 7pm, so 0455 sessions here settle at 7.30pm or later on weekdays and shift earlier only at weekends.

Al Mowaihat

Spread-out villa communities with long internal drives. Sibling timetables collide constantly, which is why families here tend to book two shorter sessions rather than one long block.

Al Jurf

A mix of industrial and residential streets with several private schools inside a short radius. Weekend morning slots fill first here, and they fill early in Term 1.

Ajman Corniche and Al Rashidiya

Waterfront apartment blocks with a heavily expatriate population and children spread across Ajman and Sharjah schools. Timetables here follow the Sharjah school day more closely than the Ajman one.

Al Yasmeen and Al Helio

Newer villa developments towards Emirates Road. For most families here a 0455 session starting before 7pm during term is not realistic, and pretending otherwise is how lessons get cancelled.

Emirates City and Al Zorah

Towers and low-density new build with a strongly Dubai-commuting population. Thursday evenings and weekend mornings dominate the booking pattern, and weekday demand is thin.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Ajman

Ajman city and Al Jurf

The emirate's own private-school set is small and mixed: British, Indian and IB curricula within a few kilometres of one another. Economics appears as a Year 10 option at the British-curriculum and IB schools; the Indian-curriculum schools reach the same content through CBSE commerce streams instead, which changes what a tutor has to bridge.

Sharjah border schools used by Ajman families

A large share of Ajman children are driven across the Sharjah line each morning, so a 0455 plan here has to work around two school calendars and two regulators. Sharjah's private schools answer to the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which approves fees, curricula and assessment methods; Ajman's answer to the federal Ministry of Education.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the marked paper, not a description

One message with the school, the year, the tier and a photograph of the last marked Economics script. The script shows which command words were misread and which syllabus sections are genuinely weak, which is information no questionnaire produces.

  2. 02

A free trial lesson with the actual tutor

Sixty minutes with the specialist who would teach the course, not a consultant. The tutor works through one real data-response question so you can see the teaching rather than hear about it, and nothing is paid before that lesson has taken place.

  3. 03

A written plan with a stop date

After the trial you receive the section order, the number of sessions, and the date the block ends. Open-ended arrangements drift and get expensive; a plan with an end point can be renewed deliberately or allowed to finish.

  4. 04

    Weekly marking before the lesson

Homework is marked and annotated before the next session starts, so the hour is spent on correction rather than on discovery. The marked work accumulates into the evidence a parent uses to judge whether the money is working.

  5. 05

Review against the mark scheme every fortnight

One timed question or paper every two weeks, marked against the published Cambridge scheme and recorded section by section. If a section stops improving the plan changes; if it improves, the time moves to the next weakest area.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The AED figures carry their source

Every rate band on this page names the provider or survey that published it, with the year. You can check them yourself and you can use them to negotiate with somebody else. Three of six competitor pages reviewed in October 2026 published no price at all.

A subject pool, not a map radius

Ajman's local supply of 0455 specialists is thin, so searching inside the emirate means choosing from whoever is nearby. Remote delivery replaces that radius with the question that matters: who has taught this syllabus and marked these papers?

Marking is the product

The hour is built around your child's own script, read before the lesson and annotated during it. Explanation without marked evidence is the cheapest thing in this market, and it is often sold at the price of the most expensive.

No coursework shortcuts, because there is no coursework

0455 has no internal assessment, so nobody can offer to help with one. On the subjects that do, a tutor teaches, reviews and gives feedback on work the student has written. We will not draft assessed work, and a provider that offers to is a risk to your child's entry.

Availability stated, not implied

When no 0455 specialist is free at your preferred hour we say so and offer a time, a described alternative, or a dated place on the list. Concealing a coverage limit is the most common failure in this market, and it is the easiest one to avoid.

One emirate's detail, not generic UAE copy

The timings, the school clusters and the cost drivers on this page are Ajman's: federal Ministry of Education supervision, Sharjah border schooling, and evening slots shaped by the Dubai commute. None of it was written for Dubai and relabelled.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Ajman: your questions answered

How much does a Cambridge IGCSE Economics 0455 tutor cost in Ajman?+

Market rates rather than ours: a qualified subject tutor working online is quoted between AED 150 and AED 300 an hour, and an examined-subject specialist between AED 200 and AED 450 or above. Unitors publishes AED 150 as its IGCSE starting rate, TutorChase quotes AED 270, and Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table gives the 200 to 450-plus specialist band. Budget and undergraduate tutors advertise from AED 33 to AED 65. In-home visits, where available locally, run AED 180 to AED 500 once travel is priced in. IB Gram does not publish a rate card here; the free trial lesson and the consultation are where our own figure is quoted.

Why are tutoring rates in Ajman quoted higher in the evening?+

Because demand collapses into a two-hour window. A large share of Ajman parents work in Dubai or Sharjah and are not home before seven, so almost every family wants the same 7pm to 9pm slot on a weekday. Scarcity in that window firms the price, and for in-home tuition it compounds: a tutor driving up from Sharjah at 7pm spends 45 to 90 minutes in traffic each way and recovers it through the rate or through a two-hour minimum. Moving a session to Thursday evening, a Saturday morning or a late-afternoon slot during school holidays is the single cheapest change most families can make.

Is 0455 Economics tutoring cheaper online than in-home in Ajman?+

On the published bands, yes, and the gap is structural rather than a discount. Qualified online tuition is quoted at AED 150 to AED 300 an hour; in-home one-to-one is quoted at AED 180 to AED 500 by Bestimate and independent home tutors, with travel inside the figure. The difference is the driving. For 0455 the screen also costs you very little, because the subject has no practical component: the working material is an extract, a diagram and a mark scheme, all of which share and annotate better in a document than on a kitchen table. IB Gram delivers 0455 only as one-to-one tuition over live video.

How many hours of 0455 tutoring does a Year 11 student in Ajman usually need?+

It depends entirely on whether content is missing or technique is weak, and the marked paper tells you which. A student whose economics is sound but whose discuss answers are one-sided usually needs four to six sessions aimed at Paper 2 technique. A student with genuine gaps in two or more of the six syllabus sections needs something closer to two sessions a week from January to the series, which is around thirty hours. Starting in Year 10 with one weekly session costs more hours in total and less money per mark, because repetition does the work that urgency has to buy later at a higher rate.

Does Cambridge IGCSE Economics 0455 have any coursework?+

No. The whole grade comes from two written papers sat in one series: Paper 1, a 45-minute multiple-choice paper worth 30%, and Paper 2, a 2 hour 15 minute paper worth 70% containing a compulsory data-response question and three structured questions chosen from four. There is no portfolio, no internal assessment and no practical component. That matters for planning, because nothing is banked before study leave: a strong Year 10 counts only insofar as it shows up in the papers. It also means no tutor can offer coursework help in 0455, and any provider implying otherwise has not read the syllabus.

What is the difference between Economics 0455 and Business Studies 0450?+

0455 explains why markets behave as they do: scarcity, resource allocation, microeconomic decision makers, government policy, development and international trade. 0450 explains how one firm is run: ownership, people, marketing, operations, finance and external influences. The assessments differ as much as the content. 0455 is a 30% multiple-choice paper plus a 70% written paper. 0450 splits evenly between a short-answer and data-response paper and a case-study paper built on a named business. Students who enjoy argument and diagrams usually prefer 0455; students who prefer concrete application to a real company usually do better in 0450.

My child answers discuss questions like explain questions. Can that be fixed?+

Yes, and it is normally the fastest improvement available in 0455. The pattern is accurate economics written one-sidedly: the student explains a cause thoroughly, never considers the counter-argument, and never reaches a judgement, so the mark is capped no matter how good the explanation was. The repair is mechanical rather than conceptual. Drill one structure until it is automatic — the case, the counter-case, the condition that decides between them, and a one-sentence verdict — then apply it to past data-response questions under time pressure. Four to six focused sessions usually moves this, because the knowledge was never the problem.

Who regulates private schools in Ajman?+

The federal Ministry of Education. The u.ae private-schools page states that the Ministry plays a supervisory role over private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah, unlike Dubai where the KHDA oversees private education quality, or Abu Dhabi where ADEK supervises licensing and accreditation. In practice this means there is no emirate-level inspection portal for an Ajman parent to consult. The useful substitute is to ask the school directly for its Cambridge results profile by subject, and how many candidates it entered for 0455 in the last series. A set of eight and a set of forty-five are different subjects under the same code.

Do private tutors in Ajman need a MoHRE permit?+

Anyone giving paid private lessons inside the UAE needs the private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and issued through MoHRE. According to u.ae it is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Anyone quoting you a price for the permit is wrong. Tutoring without one is stated to carry fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no schedule of amounts has been published.

Does the quoted AED rate for 0455 tutoring include VAT?+

Always ask, and ask for the answer in writing, because the market is inconsistent about it. Some providers quote a gross figure and some quote net, and a five per cent difference across thirty sessions is not trivial. We will not state the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees as settled fact on this page, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation rather than a tutoring company's opinion. What any provider can and should tell you plainly is whether the number they quoted you is the number that will be charged, and whether a tax registration number appears on the invoice.

Can an Ajman student sit 0455 in the November series instead of June?+

Cambridge International runs IGCSE exams in a June series and a November series, so the November route exists. Whether your child's school enters candidates for it is a separate question and depends on the school, not on Cambridge. Two things to check before planning around it. Entries close well before the paper. For the November series the papers fall in October and November and the final entry closes in the summer, so the decision is normally taken while June results are still being digested rather than at the start of the autumn term; for the June series the entry closes in the spring. There is no third option in the UAE, whatever a search for Cambridge key dates suggests: the February and early-March sitting is offered to candidates in India only. And every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, with Cambridge stating that the correct zone timetable must be used. Confirm both with your school's exams officer.

Will a 0455 tutor use my child's own marked school papers?+

That is the intended starting point and it is the thing worth insisting on with any provider. A photograph of a marked Paper 2 script shows which command words were misread, which of the six sections are weak, and whether the problem is timing rather than knowledge — none of which a questionnaire reveals. From there, each week's homework is marked before the following session so the hour goes on correction. We reference official past papers and mark schemes and link to them on the Cambridge International site; we do not reproduce or supply syllabus documents, papers or mark schemes as downloads.

How do Arabic and Islamic Education fit around a 0455 tutoring timetable in Ajman?+

They are part of the school week rather than an optional extra. Private schools in the UAE must teach Arabic, Islamic education and social studies alongside the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's published guidance for Dubai calculates mandatory-subject time in 40-minute lesson units, advises a minimum lesson length of 25 minutes, requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and prohibits additional or different content without prior Ministry of Education permission. The practical effect in Ajman is a fuller timetable than parents expect, so a 0455 session has to sit outside it rather than compete with it.

What happens if no 0455 specialist is available when we ask?+

We say so, which is less common in this market than it should be. Economics specialists at IGCSE level are not always free in the 7pm to 9pm window, and the January-to-series period is the tightest. You get three real options rather than a silent downgrade: a different time with the specialist you wanted, an available tutor whose actual 0455 experience we describe precisely so you can judge it, or a dated place on the waiting list. We do not present a generalist as a subject specialist. Tutoring is delivered remotely by one-to-one video, so the pool is a national one rather than whoever lives nearby.

Start with the marked paper and the free trial

If your child is sitting Cambridge IGCSE Economics 0455 at a school in Ajman or across the Sharjah line, the fastest useful step is to send one photograph of their last marked Paper 2 script with the school and year group. A 0455 specialist reads it, you get a free trial lesson with that tutor rather than a sales call, and after the lesson you receive a written plan with a session count and an end date. Every AED band quoted on this page names its source, so you can weigh our plan against anybody else's using the same numbers. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
