IB Home Tutor in Al Maryah Island

Parents searching for an IB home tutor in Al Maryah Island are usually asking one question: is there anybody on or near this island who genuinely knows the Diploma syllabus their child is sitting? This page answers that plainly. Al Maryah Island is half a square kilometre of towers, offices and a mall, and the honest answer is that the pool of resident Diploma specialists is tiny. IB Gram closes that gap a different way: live one-to-one video lessons from subject specialists, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, with a free trial lesson before anything is agreed.

  • Matched by subject and level, not by who lives nearby
  • Live video lessons, one tutor to one student, no recordings resold
  • Free trial lesson before you commit to anything
  • ADEK regulates the private schools your child attends

IB & IGCSE in Al Maryah Island

Why "is there an IB tutor near me on Al Maryah Island?" is a harder question than it looks

Al Maryah Island sits between the Corniche and Al Reem Island, connected by two bridges, and it was built as Abu Dhabi's central business district rather than as a family suburb. Abu Dhabi Global Market sits at one end, The Galleria in the middle, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi at the other. The residential stock is apartments in towers, and the resident population is a fraction of what a villa community like Khalifa City or Al Raha Gardens holds. None of that is a problem until you need a specific kind of teacher.

A Diploma Programme student does not need a maths tutor. They need a Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL tutor who has marked that course's Paper 3, or a Chemistry HL tutor who knows which criterion on the Internal Assessment rubric is costing them two marks. Those are narrow specialisms. Abu Dhabi as a whole has a reasonable number of them. Al Maryah Island, with its handful of residential towers, statistically has almost none, and the ones who advertise locally are usually generalists who will happily take a Diploma booking and then teach around the edges of it.

That is the mismatch this page exists to name. When a parent types "IB home tutor in Al Maryah Island" into Google, what comes back is a set of agency pages that promise a tutor will arrive at the door, without ever addressing whether that tutor knows the course. The travel radius becomes the selection criterion. You end up with whoever can reach Al Maryah Island by 5pm, which is a logistics answer to an academic question.

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in the UAE. Home visits are a service we run in India only, and we say so on this page rather than burying it. For Al Maryah Island, every lesson is delivered live over video, one tutor to one student, at a time set in Gulf Standard Time. That changes what the selection criterion can be. Instead of asking who lives within a twenty-minute drive of the island, we ask who teaches Mathematics AA HL or Biology SL or Economics HL as their main subject, and match on that.

The rest of this page is the detail behind that choice. What the Abu Dhabi tutoring market actually charges, in AED, with the source for each band. What the travel premium on an in-home visit buys and what it does not. Which schools island families actually enrol in, because none of them are on the island. What happens when no specialist is free for a niche Diploma subject, and what we do instead of pretending otherwise. And what a tutor may and may not touch on an Internal Assessment under IB academic-honesty rules, which is the single most common thing parents here are quietly unsure about.

Read it in the order it is written and you will finish knowing what to ask any tutor or agency in this city, including us. That is the point. A parent who can interrogate a tutoring offer properly does not need to trust a marketing page.

At a glance

  • Al Maryah Island has no private school on the island itself — every student commutes off it
  • Market rates in Abu Dhabi for a qualified online subject tutor run roughly AED 150–300 per hour
  • An in-home visit in Abu Dhabi runs roughly AED 180–500 per hour with travel priced in
  • IB Gram delivers to Al Maryah Island as live one-to-one online lessons, never a home visit
  • ADEK licenses and inspects the private schools Al Maryah Island students attend
  • A tutor may teach, question and give feedback on an IA — never write any part of it
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An IB education runs from age three to eighteen across four programmes, and an Al Maryah Island family may be in any of them. What a tutor does changes completely between them, so here is what each one actually asks of a student in Abu Dhabi.

PYPAges 3–12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The PYP is organised around transdisciplinary units of inquiry rather than discrete subjects, and there is no external examination. Assessment is continuous and teacher-led, built around a portfolio and the Year 6 Exhibition. Support at this stage is about the mechanics underneath the inquiry: number fluency, reading stamina, writing structure, and the habit of recording evidence of thinking rather than only answers.

PYP families on Al Maryah Island commute to schools on Al Reem Island, Saadiyat Island or Al Bateen, which means a primary child is often in a car for forty minutes after a full day. Short online sessions of thirty to forty minutes work far better here than an hour, and they can run from the apartment at 5.30pm rather than requiring another journey.

MYPAges 11–16 · Years 7–11

Middle Years Programme

The MYP assesses eight subject groups against four criteria each, labelled A to D, marked out of 8 and converted to a 1–7 grade by school-set boundaries. There are no external papers unless the school enters students for eAssessment. The thing that catches students is criterion language: a task asking them to evaluate is marked differently from one asking them to describe, and most lost marks are command-term failures rather than knowledge gaps.

The MYP-to-Diploma step is where Al Maryah Island families most often start looking for help. MYP Year 11 maths and sciences are assessed on criteria; DP1 maths is assessed on timed papers with a formula booklet and a graphic display calculator. Families usually find that out in October of DP1, which is late. A spring bridge of six to eight online sessions handles it better.

DPAges 16–19 · Years 12–13

Diploma Programme

The Diploma is six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject carries an Internal Assessment worth roughly 20 to 25 per cent of the grade, and the externally examined papers carry the rest. Forty-two subject points plus three core points gives the maximum of 45.

Most Al Maryah Island Diploma students sit the May session, which is the one Abu Dhabi schools enter. Because IB exam and results dates are published by the IB itself and revised from time to time, confirm every deadline with your school's IB coordinator rather than with any tutoring site, including this one. We teach to your school's internal deadlines, which is what actually governs the IA calendar.

CPAges 16–19 · Years 12–13

Career-related Programme

The CP combines at least two Diploma courses with a career-related study, a reflective project, a personal and professional skills course, service learning and a language development component. It is a smaller UAE cohort than the Diploma but a real one, and its Diploma-course components are assessed identically to the full Diploma.

A CP student on Al Maryah Island is usually taking two DP subjects alongside a business or applied qualification, and the tutoring need is narrow and specific: those two subjects to a defensible grade, plus structural coaching on the reflective project. Narrow needs are exactly where a national tutor pool beats a local one, because two subjects is not enough work to interest a local generalist.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma courses Al Maryah Island families most often ask about, with what each one actually assesses and the place marks are routinely dropped. Higher and Standard Level are both covered in each.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Algebraic fluency, calculus and proof, with HL adding a third paper of extended problem-solving. HL Paper 3 is where marks go: it is two long multi-part investigations and students who have only practised short questions run out of structure halfway through part (c).

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology-led problem solving. The graphic display calculator is central rather than incidental, and the commonest loss is method marks: a correct answer typed from the calculator with no visible model earns a fraction of the available credit.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics, waves, electricity, fields and nuclear physics, with HL extensions in each. Students lose marks on unit prefixes, on failing to state assumptions in extended-response questions, and on treating uncertainty propagation in the IA as an afterthought rather than a criterion.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Stoichiometry, energetics, kinetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms. Organic reaction pathways are the usual breaking point, and the IA is often weak on controlling variables — a lab that produces a clean graph still scores poorly if the method does not justify the range chosen.

Biology

HL and SL

Cells, molecular biology, genetics, ecology, physiology and the HL extensions. The paper that separates grades is the data-based one: students who can recall the content still lose marks describing a trend when the command term asked them to explain a mechanism.

Economics

HL and SL

Microeconomics, macroeconomics, the global economy and development. Diagrams carry heavy credit and must be labelled and referenced in the prose. The three commentaries that form the IA are marked on real published articles and on correct, explicit theory application, not on general commentary.

Business Management

HL and SL

Organisational structure, human resources, finance, marketing and operations. Numerical questions on ratios and investment appraisal are reliable marks that students skip. The HL research project needs a focused research question early, and a vague one is almost impossible to rescue in the final term.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Non-literary and literary texts, the Individual Oral, the HL Essay and Paper 1 guided analysis. Paper 1 marks are lost on description of content rather than analysis of technique, and the Individual Oral fails when the global issue is chosen late and does not genuinely link both texts.

Computer Science

HL and SL

System fundamentals, computer organisation, networks, abstract data structures at HL, and the solution-development IA. The IA scores on documented design and testing, not on how impressive the program is, and students consistently under-evidence their development stages.

Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay and the IA suite

Core and all subjects

TOK is an exhibition plus a prescribed-title essay; the EE is a 4,000-word independent piece; every subject carries its own IA. Our role on all three is teaching, questioning and feedback on the student's own drafts. We do not write, complete or edit to completion any assessed work.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways an Al Maryah Island family works with us, all of them delivered live over video. Which one fits depends on how far away the next assessment is and whether the problem is a topic or a habit.

Weekly one-to-one subject teaching

A fixed slot each week with the same tutor through the academic year, working ahead of the school's scheme of work rather than behind it. This is the format that changes a grade rather than rescuing a test, and it is what most Diploma families on Al Maryah Island start with once they have decided which subject is the real problem.

  • Same tutor, same slot, usually 60 or 90 minutes
  • Taught against your school's own scheme of work and deadlines
  • Written notes after each session so you can see what was covered
  • Session can move post-Iftar during Ramadan without losing the slot

Internal Assessment and core coaching

Short blocks of work on an IA, the Extended Essay or a TOK essay, structured around the criteria. The tutor reads the student's own draft, questions it, explains what each criterion rewards and sets the next revision. Nothing is written, rewritten or edited to completion for the student, and that boundary is stated to the student in the first session.

  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Research question and methodology interrogated before writing starts
  • Referencing, citation and the honesty declaration explained properly
  • Blocks sized to your school's internal deadlines, not ours

Exam-window intensives

A compressed series of sessions in the weeks before a mock or a final paper, built from the student's own past-paper scripts. The work is diagnostic first: mark a real paper under timing, find the repeating pattern, then drill that. Useful when a family comes to us late, which on Al Maryah Island is common because the search for a local specialist burns weeks.

  • Starts with a timed paper marked against the real rubric
  • Targets repeating error patterns rather than re-teaching the course
  • Two or three sessions a week for a defined number of weeks
  • Ends when the exam does — no rolling commitment

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Maryah Island

01

What a parent on Al Maryah Island is actually asking

  • Al Maryah Island is a central business district, not a residential school catchment
  • Six Diploma subjects means six specialisms, not one tutor
  • Proximity and subject expertise are competing selection criteria here
  • IB Gram selects on expertise because delivery is online

The literal answer: there is no meaningful resident pool of IB Diploma subject specialists on Al Maryah Island, because the island is a business district of roughly half a square kilometre with a small residential population. A family searching for an IB home tutor in Al Maryah Island will find agencies willing to send someone, drawn from Khalifa City, Al Reef or Mohammed Bin Zayed City, with the travel built into the rate. Whether that person teaches your child's specific course at the right level is a separate question that the search result does not answer.

This matters because the Diploma is not one subject. A student taking Mathematics AA HL, Physics HL, Economics HL, English A SL, Spanish B SL and Biology SL has six different specialisms in play, each with its own Internal Assessment and its own paper structure. The probability that one tutor living within twenty minutes of Al Maryah Island covers the two or three your child is weakest in, at the right level, is low. Parents discover this four sessions in, when the tutor starts avoiding the HL Paper 3 questions.

So the honest framing is a trade. You can optimise for proximity and accept a generalist, or you can drop the proximity requirement and select on subject expertise. Online delivery is what makes the second option available, and it is the only option IB Gram offers in the UAE. We do not send a tutor to an Al Maryah Island address. The lesson happens on live video, one student to one tutor, and the tutor is chosen because they teach that course, not because they can reach the Galleria by 5pm.

02

Al Maryah Island has no school on it, and that shapes everything

Every school-age child living on Al Maryah Island leaves the island each morning. There is no private school within its boundary. The nearest cluster is on Al Reem Island, one bridge away; after that, the Al Bateen and Corniche schools on the mainland, then Saadiyat, then the Khalifa City belt. This single fact determines the realistic shape of a tutoring week far more than any marketing copy about convenience.

The commute is what compresses the available window. A Reem Island school finishing at 3.15pm puts a student back in a Maryah tower by about 3.45pm on a normal day. A Saadiyat or Yas school finishing at the same time, with pickup queues and a bridge, can mean 4.30pm or later. Add an after-school activity on two days and the usable slots for a sixty-minute session that does not run past 8pm are narrower than parents expect when they start looking.

An in-home tutor has to land inside that window too, having travelled from wherever they live, usually the mainland. If they are coming from Khalifa City to Al Maryah Island at 4.30pm, the arrival time is a guess. A missed or shortened session still costs the hour. Online removes that variable entirely: the tutor is present at the time agreed, the student walks from the kitchen table to the desk, and a 7pm start is as viable as a 4pm one because nobody is driving.

The table below sets out what the commute does to session planning for the school clusters Al Maryah Island families actually use.

The arithmetic of a local tutor pool

It is worth doing this calculation openly, because it is the thing no tutoring page shows you. Start with the population of a small island of residential towers. Take the fraction who teach for a living. Take the fraction of those who teach the IB Diploma rather than a national curriculum or primary years. Then take the fraction who teach your child's specific subject at the specific level, and who have a free slot inside the window your commute allows. Each step divides the number.

By the last step, a request for a Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL tutor with Thursday availability on Al Maryah Island is a request for a person who may not exist on the island at all. That is not a failure of the island. It is what happens when you apply four filters to a small population. The same arithmetic, applied to the whole of Abu Dhabi, returns a workable number. Applied across every city we recruit in, it returns a comfortable one.

The practical consequence is that an agency promising a local in-home IB tutor on Al Maryah Island is either drawing its people from the mainland and charging you for the drive, or quietly relaxing the subject filter and sending a capable generalist instead. Both are legitimate businesses and both have their place. Neither is what a Diploma student with a specific Higher Level problem in front of them needs. The table below sets out how the filter stack behaves at each successive level of geography, from the island alone to a national online pool.

What the travel premium buys, and what it does not

Begin with what you are paying for rather than with the headline number. When an in-home rate in Abu Dhabi sits above an online rate for the same tutor and the same hour of teaching, the difference is the journey. It buys physical presence in the room, a tutor who can see a worked page over a student's shoulder without a document camera, and for some younger children a seriousness that a screen does not carry. Those are real things.

What it does not buy is subject depth. The premium is paid to a driver, not to an examiner. It also does not buy reliability on Al Maryah Island specifically, because the journey the premium pays for is the journey most likely to be disrupted at the hour a session needs to start. And it does not buy flexibility: a tutor who has driven forty minutes will not move your Tuesday slot to Thursday on request, because their week is built around a route.

The AED bands below are market rates in this emirate, published by other providers and by Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table, not IB Gram's price list. They are here so you can see where any quote you receive sits. We do not publish a per-hour price on this page; we offer a free trial lesson and a consultation, and the figure comes out of that conversation once the subject and the frequency are known.

Online delivery into a Maryah tower, in practice

The question behind the question is usually whether a screen works as well as a person in the room. For a Diploma student it generally works better, for reasons specific to the subject matter. IB work is written: a derivation, a labelled diagram, an annotated extract, a marked-up draft. A shared digital whiteboard keeps every line of that session, which a paper notebook on a dining table does not. The student can reopen Tuesday's derivation on Saturday.

The tower itself helps rather than hinders. An apartment on Al Maryah Island has fibre connectivity as standard, a desk or a kitchen table that is quiet once the island's working day ends, and no requirement to make a room presentable for a visitor. Parents frequently mention that last one. There is also no building-access problem, no visitor parking at The Galleria, and no lift wait at 5pm.

What online genuinely requires is set-up discipline. The student needs a camera the tutor can point at paper when working by hand, a stable chair at a table rather than a bed, and headphones. We ask for those in the first session and say why. Where a subject involves practical work, as the sciences do, the tutor works on the write-up, the uncertainty analysis and the evaluation rather than pretending to replicate a school laboratory. The school runs the practical; we teach what the criteria reward in the report.

To be explicit, since this page targets a home-tutor search: IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. No tutor will come to an Al Maryah Island address. In-home tutoring is a service we run in India only. The comparison below is how the two formats differ for a family on this island.

Tutor coverage and the honest fallback

No tutoring service covers every Diploma subject at every level at every hour, and the ones that claim to are the ones to be careful with. Common courses are well covered and a match is usually quick. Narrow HL subjects and less-taught languages are thinner, and in those cases a family deserves to be told that rather than handed a near-miss tutor and left to discover the gap.

Our rule is that we say what coverage looks like before you commit, and if the right specialist is not free we say so and offer the alternatives explicitly: wait for a slot, start with a related subject, or take a tutor based outside the UAE who teaches the same syllabus and works to Gulf Standard Time. The third option is how most genuinely narrow requests get met, and it is disclosed rather than hidden behind a local-sounding phone number.

That disclosure is deliberate. Several providers in this market route UAE parents to contact numbers outside the country without ever stating where the teaching actually comes from, which a parent only discovers once the first lesson starts at an awkward hour. If a tutor for your child's subject is not UAE-based, you will be told before the trial lesson, the reason will be named, and the lesson time will still be set in your evening rather than theirs.

Coverage also moves through the year. Higher Level slots tighten in the second term as Diploma families across the Gulf reach the same point in the calendar, and the quickest route to a good tutor in February is to have asked in October. If you are reading this in the autumn term and the subject is a known weakness, that timing is the single most useful thing on this page.

Is your tutor legally permitted to teach in the UAE?

This is a fair question and almost nobody in this market answers it. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page, Issuance of a New Work Permit — Private Tutor Licensing, lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system.

Who may hold one is broader than parents assume. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. The flip side is also clear: individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. The authorities have not published a fine schedule, so no figure should be quoted to you, and this page quotes none.

There is a separate restriction worth knowing in Abu Dhabi specifically. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported as prohibiting teachers from giving paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit code of conduct is reported to bar the same thing. Treat that as press-reported and check the current ADEK policy document if it bears on your situation. What it means practically is that hiring your child's own classroom teacher privately is not the shortcut it looks like.

A tutoring operation with premises and staff is a different legal animal again: in Dubai that requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute. IB Gram holds no regulator approval, accreditation or partnership of any kind, in Abu Dhabi or anywhere else, and does not operate a UAE office or centre. We name the regulators because parents should know who they are, not to imply any of them endorses us.

What a tutor may and may not touch on an IA, EE or TOK essay

  • Allowed: teaching content, explaining criteria, questioning a draft, teaching citation
  • Allowed: timed practice on a different topic, feedback on the student's own writing
  • Not allowed: writing, drafting, rewriting or editing assessed work to completion
  • Not allowed: supplying research questions, data or an adaptable model of the task

Every Diploma subject carries an Internal Assessment, and together with the Extended Essay and the TOK essay these are the pieces of work where tutoring most often goes wrong. The boundary is set by IB academic-honesty rules, and crossing it is an expulsion-level risk for the student, not a slap on the wrist. So it is worth stating exactly what help looks like.

A tutor may teach the subject content the task sits on. They may explain what each assessment criterion rewards and in what proportion. They may ask questions that make a student notice a flaw in their own method. They may read a draft the student wrote and say which criterion it is underselling and why. They may teach referencing, citation and how to describe a method so another person could repeat it. They may run a timed practice task on a different topic entirely.

A tutor may not write any part of the work. May not draft a paragraph for the student to adapt. May not edit a draft to completion or rewrite sentences so that the final text is partly theirs. May not generate a research question and hand it over. May not supply data the student did not gather. May not provide a worked model of the actual task that can be adapted. An agency in this SERP sells completed Internal Assessments outright; that is an academic-integrity breach and a malpractice trigger, and it is not a service we offer at any price.

We explain this to the student in the first core session, because the student is the one who signs the authenticity declaration. Clear boundaries also make the work better: a student who has been questioned hard about their own method writes a stronger evaluation than one handed a polished paragraph they do not understand.

ADEK, inspection ratings and what a school report actually tells you

Private schools in Abu Dhabi are regulated by the Department of Education and Knowledge, which u.ae describes as supervising the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. That is ADEK, and it is the body that inspects and rates the schools Al Maryah Island children attend. It is also, oddly, named by none of the competitor pages researched for this market, which tells you how little localisation the ranking pages carry.

The regulator map across the country is worth knowing if your family moves between emirates, because it changes. Dubai sits with KHDA, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in that emirate. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education there; Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge; and the Ministry of Education plays a pivotal role in supervising private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authority approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so the regulator's remit there extends well beyond inspection.

What an inspection rating does and does not tell you about tutoring need is the useful part. A strong overall rating is a judgement about the school as an institution: leadership, provision, outcomes across the whole cohort. It says nothing about whether your child's Chemistry HL set has a settled teacher this year, or whether the maths department is stretched across AA and AI with one specialist. Those are the conditions that actually create a tutoring need, and you find them out at a parents' evening, not in a published band.

Read a report for pattern rather than headline. If attainment in a subject group is flagged as weaker than progress, the cohort is being taught well from a low base and content gaps are the issue. If progress is the weaker measure, the teaching is where to look. Either way the inspection tells you where to ask questions, and the answers shape which subject is worth paying for.

Starting, in the order it actually happens

  • Read examiner comments across subjects before choosing a subject to fund
  • Send recent marked work ahead of the free trial lesson
  • Ask the student whether the tutor knew the course — they will know
  • Start at one session a week unless a dated deadline says otherwise

The first step is not booking a tutor. It is deciding which subject is the real problem, because families frequently arrive certain it is maths when the pattern of lost marks says it is written explanation across three subjects. The quickest way to find out is to put the last two marked assessments side by side and read the examiner comments rather than the grades. If the comments repeat across subjects, the problem is technique, and technique is cheaper to fix.

Then the trial lesson. It is free, it is a real lesson rather than a sales call, and the useful thing to do is send the tutor a piece of the student's recent work beforehand so the hour starts on evidence. At the end, ask the student one question: did that person know the course better than you do? A Diploma student can answer that accurately, and their answer is the one that matters.

After that the decision is frequency and duration, not whether to continue. One session a week changes a grade over a term. Two sessions a week is for a specific window: a mock, an IA deadline, the final run-in. An exam-window intensive is for the last few weeks and should end when the paper does. Anyone selling you a rolling annual commitment in week one is selling a contract, not teaching. And if we cannot staff your subject properly, we will tell you that instead of taking the booking.

Where we tutor

Al Maryah Island and the communities around it

Online delivery means the same Diploma specialist is available to a family on Al Maryah Island and a family twenty minutes away, which is not true of an in-home tutor. These are the neighbouring communities where IB and IGCSE students sit.

Al Maryah Island

Abu Dhabi's central business district: ADGM, The Galleria, Cleveland Clinic and residential towers on a half-square-kilometre island. No private school sits on the island, so every school-age child commutes across one of its bridges.

Al Reem Island

The adjacent island and the nearest dense school cluster to Al Maryah, reachable in minutes over the Reem bridge. Several British and IB schools sit here, which makes it the default enrolment choice for Maryah tower families.

Saadiyat Island

Cultural district with low-density housing and a small number of well-known international schools. The drive from Al Maryah is short by distance and unpredictable at pickup time, which pushes families towards later session starts.

Al Bateen

Established mainland Abu Dhabi with older villas and a long-running cluster of private schools. Many Maryah families with more than one child split between a Bateen primary and an island secondary.

the Corniche

The waterfront strip facing Al Maryah across the channel, with apartment living and mainland school access. Evening traffic along the Corniche is the main reason a 4pm in-home session rarely starts at 4pm.

Yas Island

Leisure and residential island east of the city with newer British-curriculum schools. A Maryah family enrolled on Yas is looking at a genuine cross-city commute each way, which effectively removes in-home tutoring from the options.

Al Raha Beach

Waterfront apartment and townhouse community on the way to the airport, with its own schools nearby in Al Raha Gardens. A common second address for families who move off the island as children reach Diploma age.

Khalifa City

Large mainland villa community with the emirate's densest concentration of international schools. Where Maryah Island parents often look first for a resident tutor, and where that tutor's travel time to the island is priced into the hourly rate.

Al Reef

Affordable villa and apartment community near the airport, popular with teaching staff. Relevant here because a meaningful share of Abu Dhabi's tutor supply lives this far out from Al Maryah Island.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Dense mainland residential grid with a broad mix of curricula and a large Indian and Arab school population. A thirty-five to fifty-minute drive from Al Maryah depending on the hour.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Maryah Island

Al Reem Island and the central islands

The closest school belt to Al Maryah Island and the one most island families use. These schools run British and IB pathways and sit a single bridge crossing away, which is why a Maryah student's school day typically ends between 3pm and 3.30pm with a short commute home.

  • Repton School Abu Dhabi
  • The British International School Abu Dhabi
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy
  • Al Muna Academy

The mainland and Khalifa City belt

Where the broader Abu Dhabi private-school population sits, and where most Abu Dhabi-resident tutors live. A Maryah Island family choosing an in-home tutor is almost always buying travel time from this belt across to the island at the worst hour of the day.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Raha International School
  • Reach British School
  • Emirates National School
  • Abu Dhabi International School

Schools are named here as context for the Al Maryah Island education landscape. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement relationship with any school named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level and the deadline

Not just "IB maths". Which course, AA or AI, HL or SL, which school, and what is coming next: a mock, an IA deadline, the final papers. On Al Maryah Island it helps to say which school and what time the commute gets your child home, because that determines which slots are real.

  2. 02

We propose a specialist and say what coverage looks like

You see who is proposed and why, including whether they are UAE-based or working to Gulf Standard Time from elsewhere. If your subject and level is thinly covered we say so at this point, with the alternatives, rather than after you have paid for a session.

  3. 03

A free trial lesson, with real work in front of it

Send a recent marked paper or a draft. The tutor teaches a genuine hour against it rather than running an introduction. You and the student both judge the same thing: did this person know the course, and did the hour move something.

  4. 04

Fix the slot and the shape of the work

A weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time, a frequency matched to the next real deadline, and an agreed plan for what the first six sessions cover. Sessions can shift post-Iftar during Ramadan and pause through exam weeks without losing the slot.

  5. 05

Review against the next marked assessment

The check is external: the next school assessment, mock or marked IA draft. If the pattern of lost marks has not moved, we change the approach or the tutor. A grade that has not moved after a term of weekly sessions is our problem to explain, not yours to absorb.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Subject match before geography

Because delivery is online, the first filter is who teaches Mathematics AA HL or Chemistry SL, not who can drive to Al Maryah Island. On an island with a small resident teaching population, that reordering is the entire practical advantage.

We say where the teaching comes from

If the right specialist for your child's subject is not based in the UAE, you are told before the trial lesson, and the session is still timed to your evening. Several providers in this market conceal non-UAE delivery behind a local-looking contact route.

A stated boundary on assessed work

Teaching, questioning and feedback on the student's own drafts. No writing, no rewriting, no completed Internal Assessments at any price. The boundary is explained to the student, who is the one signing the authenticity declaration.

Market rates shown with their source

The AED bands on this page are other providers' published figures and Bestimate's 2026 rate table, read in October 2026, presented as the market rather than as our price. You can see where any quote you receive sits before you have a conversation with us.

No invented credentials or claimed approvals

IB Gram holds no ADEK, KHDA, MoE, IB or Cambridge approval, accreditation or partnership, operates no UAE office, and publishes no self-generated ratings or statistics. Everything factual on this page is either sourced or left out.

Scheduling that survives the Abu Dhabi calendar

Slots move post-Iftar during Ramadan, pause across school exam weeks, and follow a family that travels. No tutor is driving a route, so the week can bend without the slot being lost to someone else.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Maryah Island: your questions answered

Does IB Gram send anyone to an apartment on Al Maryah Island?+

No. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, including Al Maryah Island. In-home visits are a service we run in India only. Every UAE lesson is live one-to-one video with a subject specialist, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. We state it this directly because the search term is "home tutor" and a family deserves the answer before they enquire rather than after. What you get instead is selection on subject and level rather than on driving distance, which on a half-square-kilometre business district with few resident Diploma specialists is the more useful trade.

How many IB Diploma subject specialists actually live on Al Maryah Island?+

We cannot give you a number, and anybody who does is guessing. What we can say is the arithmetic: the island is roughly half a square kilometre of towers and offices with a small residential population, and finding a tutor there means filtering that population for people who teach, then for people who teach the Diploma, then for your child's subject at the right level, then for availability in your window. Four filters on a small base returns close to nothing for a named Higher Level course. Widening the search to all of Abu Dhabi, or online, returns a workable pool.

Why is there no private school on Al Maryah Island itself?+

The island was developed as Abu Dhabi's central business district: Abu Dhabi Global Market, The Galleria, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and residential towers. School provision sits on the surrounding islands and the mainland instead. Practically, that means every school-age child on Al Maryah Island crosses a bridge each morning, most commonly to Al Reem Island, or further to Al Bateen, Saadiyat or the Khalifa City belt. The relevance to tutoring is timing: the commute home determines how early a session can realistically start, and that is the first thing we ask about.

What does the market charge for an IB tutor in Abu Dhabi, in AED?+

Published market figures, read in October 2026, run roughly like this. A qualified subject tutor working online is quoted from AED 150 for IGCSE and AED 200 for IB by Unitors. An in-home visit is quoted at AED 180–350 by Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table, with independent home tutors up to AED 500 once travel is included. A named IB or A-Level specialist runs AED 200–450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. Premium examiner-led provision reaches AED 650 at BartyED. These are the market, not IB Gram's prices; ours follow a free trial and a consultation.

Is a Maryah tower apartment a workable place for online lessons?+

Generally yes, and often better than the alternative. Fibre connectivity is standard in the island's residential towers, and once the business district's working day ends the apartments are quiet. There is no visitor parking to arrange at The Galleria, no building access to clear and no room to tidy for a guest. What the student does need is a desk or table rather than a bed, headphones, and a way to show handwritten working to the camera. We ask for that set-up in the first session and explain why each part of it matters.

How do you choose which tutor to propose for a Diploma student here?+

Subject and level first. If the request is Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL, we look for tutors whose main teaching is that course, not maths generally, and who have worked on Paper 3 specifically. Then the assessment component that is actually failing: a student losing marks on an Internal Assessment needs someone fluent in that subject's criteria, which is a different strength from paper technique. Then your time window. Geography enters only when you want a UAE-based tutor for a particular reason, and we will tell you whether that narrows the pool for your subject.

My child is at a school on Al Reem Island. When can a session start?+

Al Reem is the shortest commute from Al Maryah Island, usually ten to twenty minutes over the bridge, so a school day ending around 3.15pm puts a student home by roughly 3.45pm. That makes a 4.30pm or 5pm start genuinely workable, which is unusual among the clusters island families use. Saadiyat or Yas enrolment pushes the realistic start to 5.30pm or 6pm because of pickup queues and cross-city distance. We plan the slot around the actual arrival time rather than the school's finish time, because the gap between them is where sessions get lost.

How far can a tutor go in helping with an IB Internal Assessment?+

No, and the distinction matters more than it sounds. A tutor may teach the content, explain what each criterion rewards, question the method until the student notices its weaknesses, read a draft the student wrote and name which criterion it is underselling, and teach referencing and citation properly. A tutor may not write, draft, rewrite or edit any part of the work to completion, supply a research question, provide data the student did not gather, or hand over an adaptable model of the task. The student signs an authenticity declaration, and under IB rules a breach is an expulsion-level risk for them.

Does ADEK or any regulator approve IB Gram as a tutoring provider?+

No. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB or Cambridge, and operates no office or centre in the UAE. We name ADEK on this page because it is the body that licenses and inspects the private schools Al Maryah Island children attend, and parents should know who that is. Any provider describing its tutors as licensed by KHDA or accredited by ADEK is making a claim about a specific permit issued to institutions holding premises, and you should ask to see the permit number and check it with the regulator.

Do private tutors in Abu Dhabi need a permit, and how would I check?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through MoHRE, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so treat any quoted figure with suspicion. Ask a prospective tutor to show you their permit, and apply or verify through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system.

Can we hire my child's own subject teacher privately instead?+

It is not the shortcut it appears to be. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported as prohibiting teachers from providing paid private tuition to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit code of conduct is reported to bar serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Treat both as press-reported and check the current ADEK policy document if it affects you directly. We will not arrange or facilitate that arrangement. A specialist in the same course from outside the school carries none of the conflict and is usually more candid about the gaps.

What happens if nobody covers my child's Diploma subject?+

You get told, before you pay for anything. Common courses — the maths routes, the three sciences, Economics, Business Management, English A — are well covered and a trial lesson is usually arranged within a few days to a week. Less-taught Group 2 languages and some narrow Higher Level combinations are genuinely thinner. In that case we set out the options plainly: wait for a slot to open, start on a related component such as the Internal Assessment with a specialist in that part, or take a tutor based outside the UAE who teaches the same syllabus and works to your evening in Gulf Standard Time.

Which IB session do Abu Dhabi schools enter, and when should we start?+

Abu Dhabi schools enter the May session, and a November resit route exists for individual cases. We will not publish specific IB exam or results dates here, because the IB sets and occasionally revises them and our source could not be verified directly; confirm every date with your school's IB coordinator. What governs your term is the school's internal deadline calendar for Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge, which usually bites well before anything external. Work backwards from those internal dates and you will be early rather than late.

Is one session a week enough, or should we book two?+

One session a week with the same tutor is what moves a grade across a term, because the gain comes from consistent correction rather than volume. Two a week is worth it for a defined window: the weeks before a mock, an Internal Assessment deadline, or the final run-in. Booking two indefinitely from the start tends to produce fatigue rather than marks. Start at one, choose the subject deliberately rather than funding three at once, and review against the next marked assessment. If the lost-mark pattern has not changed after a term, the fix is a different approach, not more hours.

Will our Al Maryah Island slot survive Ramadan and a family trip abroad?+

Yes to both, and this is where online delivery is simply more flexible than a driving route. During Ramadan sessions commonly shift to post-Iftar timing, and the slot is held rather than reassigned. Families who travel between Abu Dhabi and elsewhere keep the same tutor and shift the clock, which matters in a Diploma year when a three-week absence otherwise costs a unit. Sessions can also pause across school examination weeks and resume afterwards. An in-home tutor built into a route across the island's bridges cannot usually offer any of that.

What should I send you before the free trial lesson?+

The most recent two marked pieces of work in the subject, including the examiner or teacher comments, and a draft if an Internal Assessment is in progress. Also the school name and the time your child actually gets home, because the commute from Al Reem, Saadiyat or the mainland determines which slots are real. With that in hand the trial hour starts on evidence instead of introductions, and the tutor can tell you at the end which specific thing is costing marks. If they cannot, that is useful information about the tutor.

A straight answer for Al Maryah Island families

If you came here looking for an IB home tutor in Al Maryah Island, the honest position is this: the island has no school on it and few resident Diploma specialists, so a local in-home match usually means paying a travel premium to a generalist. IB Gram teaches Al Maryah Island students live, one to one, over video, with the tutor chosen for the course your child is sitting and the time set in Gulf Standard Time. We do not send tutors to UAE addresses, we do not write assessed work, and we hold no regulator approval to dress the offer up with. Send us the subject, the level and the next deadline, and take a free trial lesson before deciding anything.
