IB IGCSE Tutor near me in Al Maryah Island

Typing IB IGCSE tutor near me in Al Maryah Island gives you a radius, not a syllabus. There is no K-12 school on the island itself, so proximity tells you almost nothing about who can teach Cambridge 0580 or IB Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL. IB Gram answers the question differently: live one-to-one video lessons timed to Gulf Standard Time, matched on the exact board, code and level your child sits.

IB & IGCSE in Al Maryah Island

What a proximity search gets wrong on Al Maryah Island

Al Maryah Island is a financial and healthcare district with residential towers on top of it. Abu Dhabi Global Market sits here, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi sits here, The Galleria sits here. What does not sit here is a school. Not an IB World School, not a Cambridge centre, not a British-curriculum primary. Every child living on the island crosses a bridge to get to class, which means the phrase parents type into Google when they want help has no local answer to return.

That matters more than it sounds. A search built on distance assumes the thing you need is evenly distributed, the way pharmacies or dry cleaners are. Tutoring is not. An IB Diploma Chemistry HL teacher who understands how the internal assessment is marked against criteria, or an IGCSE Physics specialist who knows why Paper 6 wrecks otherwise strong candidates, is a narrow specialism. There are not many of them in any emirate, and the odds that one happens to live within a fifteen-minute drive of a tower on Al Maryah Island are poor.

So families end up making a trade without noticing they made it. They pick the nearest available person, who turns out to teach a different board, or teaches the right board at the wrong level, or teaches maths generally rather than the specific route the school entered the child for. The lessons happen. The paper the child actually sits is not the paper being practised. Three months later the mock result has not moved and nobody can say why.

IB Gram was built to remove that trade entirely. Lessons run over live video, one student and one teacher, with a shared whiteboard and the student's own past papers on screen. Because nobody is driving, the pool a family on Al Maryah Island can reach is the whole pool rather than the slice inside a traffic radius. That is the entire argument, and it is an argument about syllabus coverage, not convenience.

This page answers the honest version of the question. Where the IB and IGCSE schools near Al Maryah Island actually are. What tutoring costs across Abu Dhabi, in dirhams, with the sources named. What the permit rules say about who may legally teach your child privately. Which exam series a UAE candidate sits, counted backwards from the paper. And what happens when no specialist is free, because that happens and pretending otherwise is how trust gets lost.

One thing to state plainly before anything else, because it shapes everything that follows: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service we run only in India, and nothing on this page should be read as an offer to arrive at an island address. Every lesson described below happens online, one student and one teacher, over live video.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Al Maryah Island children are spread across boards, because the island has no catchment school to funnel them. A family in one tower may have a Diploma candidate at a Saadiyat IB school and a Year 10 sibling sitting Pearson Edexcel across the bridge. These are the programmes that come up most.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

Two separate boards, often confused. Cambridge uses four-digit syllabus codes such as 0580 Mathematics and 0625 Physics, with a Core and Extended split in several subjects. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE uses codes such as 4MA1 and 4PH1 and does not tier the same subjects the same way. The paper structure differs, the formula booklets differ, and the mark schemes reward different things.

For MoE equivalency on the British track, a student must pass five accredited subjects at IGCSE or GCSE with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, and Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among those five. One competitor page ranking for Abu Dhabi queries states six subjects. Five is what the official clarification says, and it is worth checking your child's option block against it in Year 9 rather than Year 11.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects across the groups, three at higher level, plus the extended essay, theory of knowledge and creativity, activity, service. Internal assessment carries real weight in every subject and is marked against published criteria identified by letter. Most of the damage in a Diploma year is done by the coursework calendar, not by the final papers, because the deadlines land while teaching is still running.

Abu Dhabi families usually meet the Diploma at a school on Saadiyat Island, Al Reem Island or in the Khalifa City corridor, which from Al Maryah Island means a bridge crossing twice a day. The practical effect is that a Diploma student here has less usable evening time than a classmate who walks to school, so we front-load coursework coaching into the autumn rather than the spring.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Assessed against four criteria per subject, each scored one to eight, with command terms that do most of the work. Students who have only ever been marked on right answers find criterion-based marking disorienting, because a correct answer with no justification scores badly. The MYP personal project in the final year is the first piece of independent extended work most of these students meet.

The MYP to Diploma step is where Abu Dhabi tutoring demand spikes, and it is a different problem from ordinary catch-up. A student can finish the Middle Years Programme with strong criterion scores and still be short of the algebraic fluency that Analysis and Approaches assumes from week one. That gap is diagnosable in a single lesson and usually takes six to ten weeks to close.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Requests from the island skew towards the subjects that decide university applications: maths at both IB routes, the three sciences, economics and English. Each subject below is taught against a named specification, and the first lesson starts from your child's own last assessment rather than from a generic diagnostic.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The proof-heavy IB route. Higher level adds Maclaurin series, differential equations and more demanding integration, and Paper 3 asks students to extend an unfamiliar idea under time pressure. Marks are lost on justification rather than arithmetic: a correct answer with no working attracts method marks it never earns.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology-assisted work. Students assume it is the easy route and then meet hypothesis testing, chi-squared and graph theory at higher level. The calculator is part of the assessment, so a student who cannot drive their own handset efficiently loses marks that have nothing to do with mathematics.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics 0580

Core and Extended

Extended opens the A* to C range and is what any student aiming at a Diploma or A-level maths route needs. The usual damage sits in algebraic fractions, transformations of graphs and the multi-step problems late in Paper 4, where candidates abandon a question rather than secure the first two marks.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics 4MA1

Foundation and Higher

Two papers of equal weight, no coursework, and a formula sheet that differs from Cambridge. Students moving between the two boards mid-course are the group most at risk, because the topics overlap while the question style and the expected layout of a solution do not.

Physics

IB HL and SL · IGCSE 0625 and 4PH1

Electricity and circuits do most of the harm at IGCSE; at IB it is the data-analysis and uncertainty work. Cambridge Paper 6 on practical skills is answered badly by candidates who have done plenty of experiments and never been taught how to write up error analysis for a marker.

Chemistry

IB HL and SL · IGCSE 0620 and 4CH1

Organic mechanisms and energetics separate grades at higher level. The internal assessment is where Diploma candidates lose the most, usually by choosing a question that cannot generate enough quantitative data to analyse properly. That is a conversation to have in September, not in February.

Biology

IB HL and SL · IGCSE 0610 and 4BI1

Content volume is the trap, and the command terms are the fix. Students who write everything they know about a topic score below students who answer the verb in the question. Extended-response practice against the published mark scheme moves grades faster than any amount of re-reading notes.

Economics

IB HL and SL

Diagrams carry marks and most candidates draw them incompletely: no axis labels, no shifted curve, no indication of the new equilibrium. The higher-level paper three quantitative work is mechanical once practised and is the cheapest set of marks available on the course.

English A: Language and Literature

IB HL and SL

Paper 1 is unseen analysis under time, and the individual oral asks students to connect a global issue to two texts. Structure beats insight here: a clear line of argument held across ten minutes scores better than a cleverer reading delivered without shape.

Arabic as an additional language

School-mandated streams

Arabic runs alongside the international curriculum in UAE private schools by federal requirement, and it is frequently the subject nobody plans for. Support here is about the school's own scheme of work and the assessment it sets, since additional or different content needs Ministry permission.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families on Al Maryah Island use us, all delivered over live video. The choice is mostly about how much of the week needs structure, not about the subject.

Weekly one-to-one, same tutor, same slot

A fixed hour each week with one specialist who holds the whole arc of the course. This is what most island families run for a core subject, because the value compounds: by week six the tutor knows which topics your child fakes confidence on, and the lesson plan stops being reactive. Scheduling is in Gulf Standard Time and the slot is held for you.

  • Same tutor throughout, so diagnosis carries over week to week
  • Written note after each lesson naming what was covered and what to practise
  • Past-paper questions chosen from the board your child actually sits
  • Slot held through term; reschedule with notice when the school run breaks

Coursework and internal assessment coaching

Timed blocks around an internal assessment, extended essay or personal project. The tutor teaches method, interrogates the research question, explains how the published criteria are applied, and gives feedback on the student's own drafts. The student writes every word. A tutor who does more than that puts the candidate at risk under academic-honesty rules, so we do not.

  • Research-question clinic before any data is collected
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback on the student's own draft
  • Method and referencing taught, never supplied as finished text
  • Deadline mapping against the school's internal calendar

Short pre-exam intensive

Four to eight weeks before a series, concentrated on paper technique rather than content coverage. The work is diagnostic first: mark a recent past paper properly, group the lost marks by cause, and attack the largest group. For most candidates that turns out to be command-term misreading and incomplete working, not gaps in knowledge.

  • Opens with a full timed paper marked against the official scheme
  • Lost marks grouped by cause, then ranked by how cheaply they can be recovered
  • Two or three sessions a week during the final stretch
  • Ends when the series ends; no rolling commitment

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Maryah Island

01

What "IB IGCSE tutor near me" actually returns on Al Maryah Island

A proximity search on Al Maryah Island returns agencies registered elsewhere in Abu Dhabi, marketplace profiles with no board named, and a handful of independent tutors whose adverts list every subject from Year 1 to A-level. None of that tells you whether the person can teach Cambridge 0580 Extended or IB Applications and Interpretation SL, which is the only question that matters.

The reason is structural rather than anyone's fault. Tutoring supply in the emirate is thin at the specialist end and thick at the generalist end. Plenty of people can help a Year 7 with fractions. Far fewer can mark an IB internal assessment against criterion C and explain why the sample scored what it did. When you filter by distance first, you are filtering on the abundant variable and ignoring the scarce one.

Island geography makes this sharper than it would be in Khalifa City. There is no school on Al Maryah Island, so there is no local teacher population attached to one. In a villa community, the person two streets away may well teach at the school your child attends. On Al Maryah Island, the person two floors down works in banking or healthcare. Proximity is not even a weak proxy here; it is noise.

The practical move is to invert the filter. Decide the board and the syllabus code, decide the level, then ask who can teach it and when they are free. Distance drops out of the problem once the lesson is over video, and the pool of people who can genuinely teach your child's paper stops being a handful and becomes the whole set.

The schools near Al Maryah Island, and which board each one means

Because the island has no school of its own, the question of which syllabus your child sits is settled by whichever bridge the family crosses each morning. That makes the school map practically useful rather than decorative: it is the thing that determines which specification a tutor needs to know.

The island cluster, which in practice means Saadiyat, Al Reem and the Al Bateen side of the mainland, carries both the IB continuum and the English National Curriculum through IGCSE and A-level. The Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor carries most of the emirate's Diploma capacity along with British and American provision. Those two clusters cover the overwhelming majority of Al Maryah Island children.

Every school in the table is licensed and inspected by the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. ADEK publishes its own inspection outcomes, and a parent choosing between two schools should read the most recent published rating on the authority's own site rather than relying on a tutoring company's summary of it.

One caution worth stating. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and a teacher tutoring outside school hours must hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, whose code of conduct bars the same thing. Treat that as press-reported and verify it against the current ADEK policy document. Either way, the lesson for parents is clear: do not arrange private lessons with your child's own classroom teacher in Abu Dhabi.

What tutoring costs around Abu Dhabi, and what the travel premium buys

Start with the cheapest option and work upwards, because that is the order a budget actually gets built in. A university-student tutor working online is the floor of this market: EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. That buys homework supervision and someone to keep a student company through a problem set. It does not buy internal-assessment criteria or Paper 6 technique.

A step up, a qualified subject tutor working online sits in the AED 150 to 300 band. Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200, which makes it the only competitor in this cluster to print an hourly rate at all. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A-level teaching runs roughly AED 200 to 450 and beyond, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai rate table showing AED 200 to 450 plus. At the top, BartyED quotes AED 650 for a premium named tutor.

Now the comparison the island makes relevant. An in-home visit including travel is quoted at AED 180 to 350 by Bestimate and AED 200 to 500 by independent home tutors. Against a qualified online tutor at AED 150 to 300, the gap is the travel premium, and for an Al Maryah Island address that premium is buying bridge crossings and parking. It is not buying better teaching, and it narrows the pool to people willing to make the drive.

Monthly packages give a cleaner planning number than hourly rates. Published examples include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. Bestimate's monthly estimates for one hour a week run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 plus for specialist exam-year support. Every figure here is a market rate published by the named provider, not an IB Gram price; ours is quoted after the free trial lesson, when we know what the work actually involves.

Why a fifteen-minute radius is the wrong filter, in numbers

  • Subject filters narrow the pool on teaching ability; distance filters narrow it on willingness to drive
  • Al Maryah Island has no attached school, so there is no local teacher population to draw on
  • Online sessions can be sized to the work rather than to the journey
  • Credential checking still matters and is covered further down this page

Work through what a distance filter does to the candidate pool. Begin with every private tutor in the emirate who can teach secondary mathematics. Remove those who teach only the American or Ministry curriculum, and the set shrinks. Remove those who do not teach IB at all, and it shrinks again. Now split the remainder between Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation, and between higher and standard level, and the set that matches one particular Diploma student is small.

Then apply geography on top. Require that this person be willing to drive to an island tower twice a week at a time that fits around a school run that already crosses a bridge. Each of those conditions is independent of teaching ability, and together they cut harder than any of the subject filters did. What survives is not the best match; it is the match that happens to be convenient.

Online delivery removes the last filter and leaves the subject filters intact. That is the whole mechanism, and it is worth being precise about what it does not do. It does not make a mediocre tutor good. It does not remove the need to check credentials. It does not suit every child, and a student who genuinely cannot hold attention on a screen for an hour needs a different plan. What it does is stop distance from deciding who teaches your child.

There is a second-order effect that island families notice quickly. Because no travel time is being paid for, a session can be 45 minutes when 45 minutes is what the work needs, or two short sessions in a week rather than one long one. An in-home tutor crossing two bridges will not sell you half an hour, which means the format quietly dictates the pedagogy.

05

Online, in-home and group tuition compared for an island address

The honest comparison has four variables: what you pay, what the logistics cost you in time, how wide the tutor pool is, and what happens when something changes. For a family on Al Maryah Island, the second and fourth matter more than they would elsewhere, because the island is reached by bridge and because a tower address makes a last-minute reschedule harder for anyone driving.

Group tuition at a centre is the cheapest per student and the least adaptable. It works when a cohort is genuinely at the same point on the same syllabus, which is unusual once students are inside a Diploma or a tiered IGCSE. For an island family it also adds a round trip at the worst hour of the day, which is the thing the format was supposed to save.

In-home one-to-one is the format parents instinctively trust and the one the market prices highest, because the price includes a car. The teaching can be excellent. The constraint is supply: you are choosing from people who will travel to you at a given hour, and in a specialist subject that set may contain nobody at all. Note again that IB Gram does not sell home visits in the UAE; this row describes what the market charges, for comparison.

Online one-to-one costs less than the in-home equivalent, draws on the whole pool, and makes the screen itself useful. A past paper can be annotated by both people at once, the session can be recorded for revision, and a graph can be built live instead of copied. The real trade is that it demands a quiet room and a working connection, and the parent has to make the first one happen.

Is the person teaching your child legally permitted to do it?

This is the question almost nobody in the Abu Dhabi tutoring market answers in writing, and it is easy to answer. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 Regarding the Introduction of Private Tuition Work Permits, and the permit is granted free of charge for two years.

Eligibility is broader than most parents expect. It covers teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. The application route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, applied for through the ministry's smart app, website and e-services system, with a stated two-working-day completion time and no fee listed.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you by anybody, and a figure circulating online could not be verified. If a provider tells you a specific penalty number, treat that as a signal about the provider.

A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal from an individual tutor: it needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested ahead of expiry. IB Gram does not hold a regulator permit of any kind and does not claim one. We are a matching platform delivering lessons online, and we say so rather than borrowing authority we have not earned.

The exam calendar, counted backwards from the paper

Families on Al Maryah Island plan around flights, school holidays and work calendars, so the exam calendar needs reading in reverse: not when the paper is, but what has to be true eight weeks earlier. The fixed points differ by board, and getting them wrong is expensive in a way that no amount of tutoring fixes afterwards.

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in a June series and a November series. UAE candidates sit those two. The February and March series exists but is offered to India only, so an Abu Dhabi parent reading a tutoring page that quotes February dates is reading a page written for a different country. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and says it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used. Ask your school's exams officer which zone it sits in.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. For the most recent completed cycle, the November final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those are backward-looking citations and they are what makes the pattern checkable; the live timetable for an upcoming series should always be read from the board's own provisional timetable page, because dates can be revised.

For the IB, UAE schools sit the May session. We do not publish a specific IB examination or results date on this page: the IB organisation blocks automated checking, and a date we cannot verify is not worth printing for a parent to act on. Your school's Diploma coordinator holds the confirmed calendar, including internal coursework deadlines, and those internal deadlines are usually the ones that decide a grade.

Where a tutor stops: academic honesty on internal assessment

  • Taught: content, criteria, method, research-question design, referencing, feedback on the student's own draft
  • Not taught, not supplied: finished text, rewritten paragraphs, completed analysis, adaptable exemplars
  • No syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes supplied as downloads
  • A tutor asked to cross the line declines and reports it

This matters more in Abu Dhabi than the local market admits, because the same search results that return tutors also return services selling finished coursework. One operator in this space advertises completed internal assessments at a fixed price. Buying one puts the student at risk of a malpractice finding, which in a Diploma year can cost the whole qualification rather than one grade.

The boundary is not vague and it is worth knowing precisely. A tutor may teach the subject content an assessment draws on, explain how the published criteria are applied and what distinguishes one band from the next, interrogate a research question until it is answerable, teach data handling and referencing, and give feedback on a draft the student wrote. That is teaching.

A tutor may not supply text that ends up in the submission, rewrite a paragraph into its final form, produce the analysis, or hand over a worked exemplar to be adapted. IB Gram does not write, finish or supply assessed coursework of any kind, and a tutor asked to will decline and tell us. We would rather lose the booking than have a student face a malpractice panel over an hour of our help.

There is also a copyright line. We do not reproduce or supply IB, Cambridge or Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads. We reference them, cite the official source, and teach from material the student legitimately has through their school. If a provider offers you a library of mark schemes, that tells you something about how they handle rules generally.

09

Coverage, waiting time, and what happens when nobody is free

No competitor page in this market publishes a coverage limit, which is strange, because every tutoring network has one. Demand is not evenly spread across subjects: maths and the sciences at IGCSE and Diploma level are requested constantly, while a Diploma higher-level subject in a smaller group can go weeks without a request and then need a specialist within days.

What that means for an Al Maryah Island family is a realistic expectation rather than a promise. For core maths and science at IGCSE and Diploma level, a match is normally arranged within a few days, with the trial lesson in the same week. For a narrower higher-level subject, or for a specific combination such as Applications and Interpretation HL plus economics with one tutor, it can take longer, and we will tell you that at the enquiry rather than after you have waited.

When no UAE-based specialist is available for a subject, we say so and offer the alternative explicitly: a specialist elsewhere in our network teaching the same specification over the same video platform, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time so your child's evening is unaffected. That is disclosed before you book, never discovered afterwards. Several providers in this market route UAE families to numbers in other countries without mentioning it, and the concealment is the problem rather than the geography.

If a match turns out to be wrong after the trial, say so and we change it. That is what the free trial lesson is for: a specific, no-obligation hour whose only purpose is to tell you whether this particular teacher and this particular child work together. A platform that cannot be told no is not worth using.

Who regulates your child's school, and why it affects a tutoring plan

Five bodies cover private schooling in the UAE, and knowing which one applies to your child changes what you can look up. In Abu Dhabi and Al Ain it is the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. In Dubai it is the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education there.

Sharjah's Private Education Authority regulates private education in that emirate, and Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge does the same in its own. The Ministry of Education plays a pivotal role in supervising private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. In Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah the authority goes further still, approving tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum approval and not merely inspection sits at emirate level.

The practical use for an Al Maryah Island parent is narrow and real. ADEK publishes inspection outcomes, so a tutoring plan can be built against what the regulator says about a school rather than what a prospectus says. If a school's published report flags attainment in mathematics, that is a reason to look harder at your own child's maths data rather than a reason to panic.

There is also a federal baseline worth knowing. Private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. That is the rule behind the mandatory subjects running alongside your child's international curriculum, and it explains why a Diploma or IGCSE timetable in the UAE is fuller than the same programme would be elsewhere.

Where we tutor

Where Al Maryah Island families actually go to school

These are the communities an island family crosses to, and the ones they compare when they move. Each has a different commute profile, and the commute decides what time a lesson can realistically start on a weekday.

Al Reem Island

The closest residential island, a short hop over the bridge, and the fastest school run available from Al Maryah. A lesson can start by 16:30 for a child at a Reem school, which is the earliest slot we see from the island.

Saadiyat Island

Where several island families send Diploma candidates. The run back crosses two bridges and the afternoon queue onto Saadiyat is unpredictable, so evening sessions here are safest booked at 18:00 or later.

Al Bateen

Older, established, and home to a cluster of the emirate's longest-running private schools. Parents working on Al Maryah often keep a Bateen school place after moving towers because of the teaching staff rather than the distance.

The Corniche

Walkable, dense and full of apartments rather than villas. Study space at home is the real constraint for these families, which is one reason a scheduled online lesson with a fixed start time works better than an open-ended homework club.

Khalifa City

The main corridor for British and American curriculum schooling in the emirate. From Al Maryah the drive is long enough that a 15:30 finish becomes a 16:45 arrival, and that gap is the single biggest scheduling fact for island families using Khalifa City schools.

Al Raha Beach and Al Raha Gardens

IB continuum schooling sits in this corridor and draws families from across the city. Siblings in different programmes at the same school is common here, which is why we schedule a household rather than a student.

Yas Island

Newer schooling, growing fast, and a commute that is fine outside event weekends and difficult during them. Families here often ask to move a Saturday session when a race or concert is on, and that flexibility is built into the booking.

  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • The British International School Abu Dhabi
  • Al Bateen Academy

The Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor

Where most of the emirate's IB Diploma and British-curriculum capacity sits. Island families who want a specific programme rather than a specific postcode usually end up here, accepting the bridge crossing as the price.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the board and the code

Not the year group, the specification. Cambridge 0580 Extended, Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 Higher, Analysis and Approaches SL. If you do not know which one your child sits, the school's exams officer does, and one email settles it. This single detail changes who we put in front of you more than anything else you could tell us.

  2. 02

Send the last real piece of evidence

A marked mock, a report, a returned past paper with a grade on it. Not a description of how things are going. Lost marks grouped by cause are the starting diagnosis, and they are almost always narrower than a parent expects: one topic, one command term, one habit in how working is set out.

  3. 03

    Take the free trial lesson

One hour, no payment, no package. The tutor teaches something real rather than running a sales call, and you get a short written note on what they found. Your child gets a vote. If the chemistry is wrong, say so and we change the tutor rather than asking you to persevere.

  4. 04

Fix the slot around the bridge

An island school run is longer than it looks on a map, so we set a start time that survives a bad afternoon rather than one that works only on a good one. All scheduling is in Gulf Standard Time. The slot holds through the term and moves when you need it to.

  5. 05

Review against the school's own calendar

Every four to six weeks we check progress against the school's assessment points and coursework deadlines, not against our own plan. If the next eight weeks need to be about an internal assessment rather than content, the lessons change. If the work is done, we reduce the frequency and say so.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Syllabus match before anything else

The first question we ask is which specification your child sits, because a tutor teaching the right subject on the wrong board is a slow and expensive mistake. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel set different papers, tier differently and reward different things in a solution, and the two IB maths routes are genuinely separate courses.

No travel filter on the tutor pool

Al Maryah Island has no school and therefore no local teacher population. Delivering over live video means the people available to your child are chosen for what they can teach, not for whether they will cross two bridges at five in the afternoon. For a narrow higher-level subject that is often the difference between a specialist and a generalist.

Prices and sources both named

Every dirham figure on this page is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it, with the tier it applies to. Three of the six competitor pages researched in this market publish no price at all, and two quote in US dollars. Our own fee is quoted after the trial lesson, once we know what the work involves.

The academic-honesty line is written down

We teach content, criteria and method, and we give feedback on work the student wrote. We do not supply text, finish coursework or hand over exemplars to adapt. That boundary protects the candidate, and in a market where finished internal assessments are openly sold it is worth stating rather than assuming.

Coverage limits disclosed up front

When no UAE-based specialist is free for a subject, we tell you at the enquiry and offer a network specialist teaching the same specification over the same platform in Gulf Standard Time. You decide with the information in hand. The alternative, which several providers in this market choose, is to let you find out later.

Regulator facts, not borrowed authority

We name ADEK, KHDA, SPEA and MoHRE because knowing which one applies to your child is useful. We do not claim approval, accreditation or partnership from any of them, because IB Gram holds none. A phrase implying otherwise is the single most common trust failure in this market.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Maryah Island: your questions answered

Is there actually an IB or IGCSE tutor based on Al Maryah Island?+

Possibly, but it is the wrong thing to search for. Al Maryah Island is a financial and healthcare district with residential towers and no K-12 school, so there is no local teacher population attached to a campus the way there is in Khalifa City or Al Bateen. Anyone advertising as near you is near you by accident rather than because they teach your child's syllabus. The better question is who can teach Cambridge 0580 Extended or Analysis and Approaches HL, and that question is answered by a video link rather than a postcode.

Will a tutor be sent to an apartment on Al Maryah Island?+

No. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Every lesson for an Al Maryah Island family is delivered one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. We target the home-tutor search because it is what parents type, and then we answer it honestly: the market does sell in-home visits at AED 180 to 500 an hour, and we think a specialist on a screen at AED 150 to 300 is the better purchase for an exam course. The comparison table above sets out both sides.

How quickly can a tutor be matched for a student living on the island?+

For core maths and the three sciences at IGCSE or Diploma level, usually within the same week, including the free trial lesson. For a narrower higher-level Diploma subject, or for a request that one tutor covers two subjects, it can take up to a fortnight at peak times. We tell you which case you are in at the enquiry rather than after you have waited. If nobody suitable is available at all, we say that too and you lose nothing but an email.

Which schools do Al Maryah Island children usually attend?+

Because no school sits on the island, families cross a bridge. In practice that means the island cluster of Saadiyat, Al Reem and the Al Bateen side, or the Khalifa City and Al Raha corridor where most of the emirate's IB Diploma and British-curriculum capacity sits. All of them are licensed and inspected by ADEK, which publishes its inspection outcomes. We name schools as context for the local education ecosystem and claim no affiliation with any of them.

Does the bridge crossing change what time a lesson can start?+

It does, and it is the most practical scheduling fact for island families. A child at a Reem Island school can be ready for a 16:30 start. A child commuting from Khalifa City or Saadiyat realistically needs 18:00 or later on a weekday, because a 15:30 school finish becomes a 16:45 arrival on a normal afternoon and worse on a bad one. We set the slot to survive the bad afternoon, since a lesson the student arrives at exhausted is wasted money.

What does an IGCSE tutor cost per hour for a family in central Abu Dhabi?+

Published market rates give the range. Budget online tutoring starts around AED 45 to 65 at EdFlik and AED 33 to 52 at Tutopiya. A qualified subject tutor online sits at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150. Specialist IGCSE and IB teaching runs AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. In-home visits including travel are quoted at AED 180 to 500. Those are the market's figures, named by source; ours is quoted after the free trial lesson.

Does a tutor working with an Al Maryah Island family need a MoHRE permit?+

Yes, and you can ask to see it. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Applications go through MoHRE's own smart app and e-services system. Anyone tutoring without the permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine amount is officially published.

Can my child's own classroom teacher tutor them privately in Abu Dhabi?+

You should not arrange it. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the teacher's own school. Treat the detail as press-reported and verify it against the current ADEK document, but the direction is unambiguous. Using an independent specialist avoids the conflict entirely and has a side benefit: a second teacher explains a topic differently, and that different explanation is often what makes it land.

Which exam series will my child sit if they are in an Abu Dhabi Cambridge school?+

The June series or the November series. Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level examinations in those two series for UAE centres, with the November series acting as the resit route. The February and March series exists but is offered to India only, so any page quoting February dates to a UAE parent is written for a different country. Cambridge also allocates each centre to one of six administrative zones and warns that the correct zone timetable must be used, so ask your exams officer which zone applies.

If my child sits Pearson Edexcel, when does the results date fall?+

The board runs May and June and November series. Looking at the most recent completed cycle gives the pattern: the November final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those are citations rather than forecasts. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so for an upcoming sitting read the official timetable page rather than any tutoring company's summary.

How many IGCSE passes does the Ministry equivalency count need on the British track?+

On the British track, five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects. A ranking competitor page states six subjects, which is wrong. Equivalency is a Ministry process, not something a tutoring company performs, and you should confirm the current requirement on the official channel.

What exactly may a tutor do on an IB internal assessment, and where do they stop?+

Yes, within a clear boundary. A tutor can teach the subject content the assessment draws on, explain how each published criterion is applied, press on a research question until it is answerable, teach data handling and referencing, and give feedback on a draft the student wrote. A tutor cannot supply text for the submission, rewrite a paragraph into final form, produce the analysis or hand over an exemplar to adapt. IB Gram does not write or finish assessed coursework, and a tutor asked to will decline. Services selling completed internal assessments put the candidate at risk of malpractice.

Is online one-to-one genuinely as effective as having someone in the room?+

For an exam course at IGCSE or Diploma level, usually yes, and sometimes better, because the screen is working for you. Both people annotate the same past paper, graphs are built live, and the session can be recorded for revision. Two conditions have to hold: a quiet room and a stable connection. For a younger child who needs physical supervision to stay on task, the honest answer is different, and we will say so rather than sell you a format that will not work.

What if we try a tutor and my child does not get on with them?+

Tell us and we change the match. That is the purpose of the free trial lesson: one hour, no payment, no package, designed to find out whether this teacher and this student work together. Your child's view counts, because an hour a week with someone they cannot talk to achieves very little regardless of how strong the subject knowledge is. There is no obligation after the trial and no penalty for saying the match was wrong.

Can an Al Maryah Island slot shift during Ramadan or a month of family travel?+

Yes, and most island families need both. Lessons can shift to later evening timing through Ramadan, and because nobody is travelling to you, a slot can follow a family that is out of the country for a fortnight as long as the time zone difference is workable. We ask for notice when a slot moves permanently so the tutor's week can be rebuilt, but a one-off change is routine. Scheduling defaults to Gulf Standard Time and stays there unless you ask otherwise.

What should I send when asking for a quote for two children in different programmes?+

Each child's board and syllabus code, their current level or tier, the most recent marked assessment for each, and the two time windows that genuinely work after the school run. Siblings in different programmes is common on Al Maryah Island because there is no catchment school funnelling everyone into one syllabus. We schedule a household rather than a student, usually back-to-back slots on the same evening, which keeps one quiet room doing double duty.

Flag of Al Maryah Island

Start with the syllabus, not the map

If you remember one thing from this page, make it this: on Al Maryah Island, distance tells you nothing useful about who can teach your child's course. There is no school on the island and no local teacher population attached to one, so the nearest available tutor is near you by coincidence. Send us the board, the syllabus code, the level and one marked piece of recent work. We will tell you honestly whether we have the right specialist, how soon they can start, and what the free trial lesson will cover. If we cannot help, we will say that instead of booking you in and hoping.
