Edexcel IGCSE Computer Science 4CP0 Tutor in Abu Dhabi

An Edexcel IGCSE Computer Science 4CP0 tutor in Abu Dhabi should leave something behind every week that you can read without being a programmer: a marked script, a commented program, a short note on what moved. IB Gram teaches 4CP0 to families across Abu Dhabi one-to-one over live video, with the code on a shared screen. Home visits are not part of the UAE service, and the rest of this page explains what you get instead and how progress is recorded.

  • Every session leaves a marked artefact: script, program or trace table
  • Paper 1 and the onscreen Paper 2 taught as separate, measured skills
  • Teaching runs over live video; no tutor is sent to an Abu Dhabi address
  • First lesson free, one per family, no card details collected

What you should be able to see after six weeks of 4CP0 teaching

Most Abu Dhabi parents who ring about Computer Science cannot mark the subject themselves. That is not a failing; it is the ordinary situation. The consequence is that tutoring in 4CP0 is easier to buy badly than almost any other IGCSE, because an hour of someone talking confidently about Python is indistinguishable, from the outside, from an hour of someone teaching it. The only defence is evidence you can read: a script with a mark on it, a program with comments explaining why a line exists, a list of the specification points that have been tested and the ones that have not.

So that is what this page is about. Not what a 4CP0 tutor in Abu Dhabi promises, but what should physically exist at the end of each week, and how you read it. By week two there should be a marked Paper 1 section with the mark scheme wording next to the candidate's wording, so the gap is visible rather than described. By week four there should be a program your child wrote, with the test table that proves it handles bad input, not just the happy case. By week six there should be a second attempt at the same topic with a different question, so the comparison means something.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Computer Science splits into two components that fail differently. The written component rewards precise explanation in the language of the specification: the difference between a validation check and a verification check, why two's complement exists, what a protocol does that a topology does not. The onscreen component rewards producing a working, tested program under time pressure. A candidate can be strong in one and weak in the other, and the two weaknesses need different teaching. Averaging them into a single grade conversation is how families end up paying for the wrong hours.

The Abu Dhabi context matters more than it looks. The emirate's private schools are licensed and inspected by the Department of Education and Knowledge, and ADEK publishes its own inspection ratings, so there is a document about your child's school you can read before you buy anything. Computing departments are also the most variable part of an Abu Dhabi secondary school: some run 4CP0 with a specialist who has taught it for years, some run it alongside ICT with one teacher covering both, and some have changed staff mid-cohort. The evidence file matters most in the third case, because the school's own record of what has been taught may be incomplete.

There is one thing no page should promise you. No tutor can guarantee a grade in 4CP0, and anyone who does should be read with real scepticism. What can be promised is visibility: that you will know, in writing, which specification areas have been examined, what the marks were, what changed and what is still open. That is the whole proposition of this page, and the sections below set out exactly what that evidence looks like, what it costs in this market, and when in the Pearson calendar each piece of it should exist.

At a glance

  • Week one: a diagnostic Paper 1 section and one short program, both marked
  • Week two: mark scheme wording placed beside the candidate's own wording
  • Week four: a student-written program with its own test table for invalid input
  • Week six: a second question on the same topic, so improvement is comparable
  • Every week: a one-paragraph note naming what moved and what is still open
  • Entry check: which Pearson series the school has entered the candidate for
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Computer Science sits inside a wider route. A 4CP0 candidate in Abu Dhabi usually arrives from a Key Stage 3 computing course of unpredictable depth and leaves towards an International A Level, an IB Diploma or a UAE university foundation year. Each stage changes what the evidence needs to show.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Computer Science

The qualification this page is about. Two equally weighted components: a written paper on the principles of computer science, and an onscreen paper that asks the candidate to solve problems by writing and testing code. There is no coursework, so nothing is submitted for moderation and every piece of work a tutor touches is practice work. Confirm current paper timings and mark totals on the Pearson specification before planning a revision block, because Pearson revises its documents between series.

In Abu Dhabi, 4CP0 is most often found in British-curriculum schools that also run ICT, and option blocks sometimes force a choice between the two. Because the emirate's schools must also deliver Arabic, Islamic Education and social studies alongside the licensed curriculum, computing lessons can land in a thinner slice of the week than a UK equivalent, which is why screen time on actual code is the part families most often need to buy back.

4IT1Ages 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE ICT

The sibling qualification, and the one most often confused with 4CP0 at option evenings. ICT examines the use and evaluation of digital systems and includes practical work with documents, spreadsheets, databases and web authoring. It is not a lighter version of Computer Science; it is a different subject with different marks available, and a candidate who likes building things but dislikes abstraction frequently does better in it.

Abu Dhabi schools that run both subjects usually timetable them against each other, so the decision is made once in Year 9 and is hard to reverse. Families moving in mid-cycle from a CBSE or American school sometimes find their child has done neither, and the first job of a tutor is then to work out which of the two the remaining time can realistically carry.

Pearson International A Level and post-16 computing

Where 4CP0 leads for candidates who continue. The post-16 course assumes fluency in the programming skills 4CP0 only introduces, and assumes the written vocabulary is already secure. A candidate who scraped the onscreen component without ever writing a program unaided will meet that gap in the first term, which is the practical argument for fixing the skill now rather than after results.

Abu Dhabi families planning on UAE universities should note that the Ministry of Education equivalency route for British-curriculum students counts five accredited IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic Education, plus one A Level at E or two AS Levels at E. Verify the current wording on moe.gov.ae before relying on it, because the route is administrative and does change.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme computer science

The other post-16 destination, offered by several Abu Dhabi schools. The Diploma route adds an internally assessed component, which changes the academic-honesty picture: work is submitted and authenticated, so what a tutor may do with a draft becomes a formal question rather than a courtesy. 4CP0 has no such component, and families often meet the distinction for the first time when a sibling starts the Diploma.

Abu Dhabi has both British and IB schools within a short radius of each other on the island and in the Khalifa City corridor, so switching routes at 16 is a live option here in a way it is not in smaller markets. A candidate deciding between the two usually benefits from knowing whether the onscreen component was a genuine strength or a managed weakness.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Families rarely buy one subject. These are the Pearson International GCSE codes that appear most often alongside 4CP0 on an Abu Dhabi timetable, with what each one actually assesses and the place marks tend to disappear.

Computer Science (4CP0)

International GCSE

Two components, equally weighted: written principles, and onscreen problem solving with code. Marks go missing in the written paper on command terms, and in the onscreen paper on untested programs that work for the example given and fail on everything else.

ICT (4IT1)

International GCSE

Digital systems, their use and their evaluation, with practical work across documents, spreadsheets, databases and web authoring. The written questions reward evaluation with a stated criterion; answers that describe a feature without judging it against a purpose collect very little.

Mathematics A (4MA1)

Foundation and Higher tier

The most common companion subject, and the one that quietly limits computing marks. Binary, hexadecimal and two's complement work in 4CP0 sits on number confidence, and a candidate who is slow with place value will be slow with conversions under time pressure.

Further Pure Mathematics (4PM1)

International GCSE

Taken by stronger mathematicians in Year 11, often the same students who take Computer Science. The overlap is in algorithmic thinking rather than content: both reward writing out a process precisely before attempting it, and both punish mental shortcuts.

Physics (4PH1)

International GCSE

Shares the logic-gate and electrical ideas that appear in the computers section of 4CP0. The common failure is the same in both: a correct diagram with no stated reasoning, where the marks were for the reasoning rather than the diagram.

Chemistry (4CH1)

International GCSE

Chosen alongside computing by candidates heading for engineering. Its six-mark extended answers train the same discipline the 4CP0 written paper needs: a sequence of linked statements in the right order, each one doing work.

Biology (4BI1)

International GCSE

Often the third science, and a useful comparison when explaining command terms. Describe, explain, compare and evaluate mean the same things in 4BI1 as in 4CP0, and a candidate who has learned them in one subject can transfer them in an afternoon.

English Language A (4EA1)

International GCSE

The subject that determines whether a technically strong candidate can write an answer the examiner can credit. Written computing answers fail on sentence control more often than on knowledge, particularly when a student is working in a second or third language.

Business (4BS1)

International GCSE

A frequent fourth option for Abu Dhabi students who like the applied side of ICT. Its evaluation questions mirror 4IT1's: a judgement, a reason, a consequence, and a context that names the business rather than businesses in general.

Economics (4EC1)

International GCSE

Taken by a smaller group, usually those already looking at a UAE or UK business degree. The diagram-plus-explanation structure is the closest thing in the humanities to the way a trace table is marked: the working carries the credit.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families buy 4CP0 teaching in Abu Dhabi, each producing a different kind of evidence. The choice is less about price than about what you want to be able to read at the end of the month.

Weekly one-to-one, with a marked artefact each time

A fixed hour each week over live video, with the first ten minutes spent on the marked work from last time and the last five on the note that goes to you. This is the format that produces a readable record, because the interval between artefacts is short enough to attribute a change to something specific.

  • One hour weekly, same slot, Gulf Standard Time
  • Each session ends with a marked script, program or trace table
  • A short written note naming what moved and what is still open
  • A running specification checklist showing what has been examined

Paired sessions on the two components

Two shorter sessions a week, one on written principles and one on onscreen programming, for candidates whose two components are at different levels. Splitting them stops the stronger component from absorbing the hour, which is the usual drift in a single weekly session.

  • One session on specification knowledge and command terms
  • One session writing and testing code with the screen shared
  • Separate marks tracked per component rather than averaged
  • Useful when a mock showed a clear split between the papers

Pre-series intensive block

A short, dense block in the weeks before a Pearson series, built around timed sections rather than new content. The output is a set of timed scripts with marks attached, which is the only reliable way to tell whether a problem is knowledge or clock management.

  • Timed written sections marked against the published criteria
  • Onscreen problems attempted under exam-length conditions
  • A written list of the specification areas still unexamined
  • Scheduled around the school's own mock and revision calendar

What a 4CP0 evidence file contains, week by week

An evidence file is not a progress report. A progress report is an opinion; an evidence file is the work with marks on it. For 4CP0 the file has four kinds of object in it: marked written sections, student-written programs with their test tables, trace tables completed under time, and a specification checklist showing which areas have been examined and which have not. Nothing in that list requires you to read code to understand it, which is the point.

The sequence matters as much as the contents. A diagnostic in week one that covers both components tells you where the hours should go. A marked section in week two on the weaker component tells you whether the diagnosis held. A second attempt at the same topic in week five or six, with a different question, is the first point at which the word improvement means anything, because the comparison is like for like. Without that structure, four weeks of lessons produce a feeling rather than a finding.

The table below is the shape most Abu Dhabi families settle into after a term. It assumes one session a week and no mock in the window; a mock replaces whatever was planned for that week, because a real timed script from school is better evidence than anything a tutor can set. The last column is the question you should be able to answer by looking at the artefact, without asking anyone to interpret it for you.

Reading a marked 4CP0 written script the way the examiner read it

The written component of Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Computer Science pays for precision in the specification's own vocabulary. A candidate who writes that a protocol is a set of rules for communication has earned something; one who writes that it helps computers talk to each other has not, because the second sentence could describe a cable. Most lost marks in this component are of that second kind, and they are invisible to a parent reading the script cold. Putting the mark scheme wording beside the candidate's wording makes the gap readable in seconds.

Command terms do the rest of the damage. State wants a fact and no reason; describe wants features without judgement; explain wants a because; compare wants both sides of each point in the same sentence; evaluate wants a judgement against a stated criterion. A candidate who explains when asked to state loses nothing but time, which still matters in a timed paper. A candidate who describes when asked to explain loses the marks outright, every time, across every topic. This is the single most transferable fix available in the subject.

The third pattern is partial knowledge expressed as a list. Topics like compression, validation, network security and the legal and ethical issues section invite a candidate to write three nouns and hope. Markers pay for the mechanism and the consequence, not the noun. The table sets out the diagnoses we write most often on Abu Dhabi scripts, what the script looks like in each case, and what the next session actually does about it.

03

Marking a Paper 2 program for marks rather than for whether it runs

The onscreen component is where Abu Dhabi families are most often reassured by the wrong signal. A program that runs looks like success. Marks, though, are available for things that have nothing to do with whether the example input produced the expected output: sensible identifier names, validation of input, handling of the edge case, evidence of testing, and a structure that a reader can follow. A program that runs and scores poorly is one of the most common situations in the subject, and one of the easiest to misread from the outside.

So a code review in a session is not a debugging session. The program is read for the marks it is claiming: does it check that the input is a number before it uses it as one, does it handle zero and the empty case, is the repetition in a loop or copied four times, are the variable names telling the reader anything. Then it is run against inputs chosen to break it. The test table that comes out of that is the artefact, and it is readable by a parent who has never written a line of code, because it is just a list of inputs and what happened.

The same review produces the honest version of the progress question. A candidate who can write a working program only when the structure is dictated is at a different place from one who can start from an empty editor, and the difference shows in the review rather than in the output. That is why the artefact we keep is the review and the test table, not the finished file. The table below is the checklist we read against, and what each line is worth noticing.

What grade movement in 4CP0 actually looks like, and how fast

Families ask how long it takes, and the honest answer depends entirely on which of four problems is in front of us. Vocabulary and command terms move fast, often within three or four sessions, because the knowledge is already there and only the expression is wrong. Number fluency for binary and hexadecimal work moves on drill, so it moves steadily and predictably. Programming fluency moves slowly, because it is a produced skill rather than a recalled one, and no amount of explanation substitutes for weeks of writing code unaided. Clock management moves only under the clock.

Nobody can promise where that lands on a grade, and this page will not pretend otherwise. What we can do is record the mark on comparable work and let you read the direction. That is why week five repeats week two's topic with a different question: two marks on the same topic, two weeks apart, under the same conditions, is a finding. A single mock score compared with a single lesson impression is not. When a family is deciding whether to continue, the comparable pair is the thing worth looking at.

The table sets out what we tell Abu Dhabi families to expect in the first six weeks, by problem type. It is a description of how the skills behave, not a prediction about any individual candidate, and the right column is the observable signal rather than a number. If none of those signals has appeared by the end of a block, the diagnosis was wrong and the plan should change rather than continue.

What 4CP0 teaching costs in Abu Dhabi, and what the price buys as evidence

Market rates in Abu Dhabi for IGCSE subject teaching run roughly from AED 45 an hour at the student-tutor end to AED 650 for a named premium tutor, and the spread tells you almost nothing about the teaching. It does, however, correlate with what you receive in writing. The cheap end of the market is generally conversation: an hour of help with homework, nothing marked, nothing recorded. The specialist end is where marked work and a written record become normal, which is the part of the invoice worth paying for in a subject a parent cannot mark themselves.

Published figures, read in October 2026, sit in bands. EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 for online sessions; Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200; TutorChase lists AED 270 for specialist support; Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors at AED 200 to 500, with specialist exam-year support at AED 200 to 450 and above; BartyED publishes AED 650. Monthly packages circulating in the market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Those are other people's prices, quoted from their own published material, and the agency arranging a visit carries the travel cost inside the rate. IB Gram does not publish a rate card on these pages: the first lesson is free, one per family, and the rate for a continuing plan is agreed in the consultation after the diagnostic, because an hour on vocabulary and an hour of supervised programming are not the same product. What the table below does is attach each band to the evidence it typically comes with, which is the comparison that matters in this subject.

The Pearson series counted backwards from an Abu Dhabi entry

Pearson runs International GCSE examinations in a May/June series and a November series each year. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, which means it is live as this page is reviewed. Results for the June 2026 series went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Those are the published Pearson dates; every revision plan should be built from the live official timetable rather than from a date restated on a tutoring page, because Pearson revises provisional timetables ahead of each series.

The part most families miss is that the entry decision happens long before the exam. A school makes the entry, chooses the series and in tiered subjects chooses the tier, and a parent who discovers in April which series their child is sitting has lost the planning window. For a 4CP0 candidate the entry question is simple but worth asking in writing: which series, and is the onscreen component scheduled in the same window as the written one. The answer changes how a revision block is built.

Counted backwards, the calendar below is what an Abu Dhabi family should have done and when. Dates in the table are the Pearson-published ones where a source exists, and a window rather than a date where it does not. ADEK, inspection reports and what they tell you about a computing department

  • Read the ADEK inspection outcome before buying tutoring, not after
  • Look for comments on teaching and progress rather than a subject grade
  • Ask the school directly whether computing staffing changed mid-cohort
  • A private tutor should hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit
  • The permit is free of charge and valid for two years
  • Your child's own classroom teacher is not the right person to ask

In Abu Dhabi the Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate, and it publishes inspection outcomes. That makes it the first document to read before buying any tutoring, because it tells you whether the gap you are seeing is your child's or the department's. A school with strong overall outcomes and a thin computing provision is a very different problem from a child who has missed a term of a well-taught course, and the two need different plans.

What an inspection report does not do is grade individual subjects in the detail a parent wants. Computing is often folded into a wider judgement, so the useful reading is indirect: teaching quality, progress in the relevant phase, and any specific comment on provision or staffing. Paired with the school's own reports, that is usually enough to tell whether a department has changed hands mid-cohort, which is the single most common reason an Abu Dhabi 4CP0 candidate arrives with uneven coverage.

There is also a rule worth knowing before asking a teacher for private lessons. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported to prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and a teacher tutoring outside school hours is expected to hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, whose code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with their own school. That is press-reported rather than quoted from the policy document, so verify it against the current ADEK publication before acting on it. The permit itself was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no amount should be quoted to you.

08

Academic honesty in a subject with nothing to submit

  • A tutor explains, demonstrates, reviews and marks the student's own work
  • No tutor should produce assessed work for a student in any subject
  • Ask your child why a line exists; the answer is the honesty check
  • Keep the student's own early attempts, errors included, in the file
  • Official specifications and papers are linked, never reproduced for you
  • In the IB Diploma the same shortcut becomes a formal malpractice matter

4CP0 has no coursework component, so there is no file to authenticate and no moderation sample. That removes the most familiar academic-honesty risk and replaces it with a quieter one: practice code that is not the student's own. A candidate whose weekly programs were generated for them arrives in the onscreen examination with no production skill and a term of evidence saying otherwise, and the evidence file is precisely what should prevent that outcome rather than disguise it.

The boundary a tutor works inside is therefore practical rather than procedural. A teacher may explain a construct, work an example, review a student's program line by line, ask what a line is for, set a harder version of the same problem and mark the result. A teacher may not type the program the student will present as their own work, and no tutor should produce assessed work on a student's behalf in any subject. On this page the distinction is easy to hold, because everything a 4CP0 candidate writes is practice, and practice is only useful if it is theirs.

Generated code deserves a direct mention because it is now the ordinary temptation rather than an exotic one. A model will produce a working program for a 4CP0-style problem in seconds, and a student who submits it to themselves as homework has learned nothing while feeling productive. The review structure catches this quickly: asked why a particular line exists, a student who wrote the program can answer, and one who did not cannot. That question, asked every week, is more effective than any rule. Families with a sibling in the IB Diploma should note that the stakes change there, because Diploma work is submitted and authenticated, and the same shortcut becomes a malpractice matter.

09

Why 4CP0 is taught over video to Abu Dhabi families, and what that changes

Tutoring for UAE families is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi or anywhere else in the UAE; that is an India-only service, and nobody will arrive at an Abu Dhabi address. For a programming subject this is not a compromise. The work happens on a screen either way, and a shared screen with two cursors is a better teaching surface than two people looking at one laptop, because the teacher can watch the error appear as it is typed and the session can be recorded as an artefact.

The second consequence is the available teaching pool. An Abu Dhabi family hiring locally chooses from the specialists who can reach their community in an afternoon, which in computing is a short list and in the outer mainland communities is often empty. Online, the constraint becomes the time zone rather than the drive, so a 4CP0 candidate in Al Reef gets a computing specialist rather than a generalist who covers maths, physics and computing because that is what the local market needs. Travel time also stops being paid for twice, once in the rate and once in the hour that gets shortened by traffic.

There are honest costs. A student who will not engage with a screen unsupervised needs an adult nearby for the first few weeks. Bandwidth matters, and a shared apartment needs a known quiet hour. Practical equipment is trivial for this subject, since a laptop with a Python environment is all 4CP0 requires, but a borrowed school device with locked software is a real obstacle and worth checking before the first lesson. The comparison table sets the two models side by side on the things that actually differ.

Availability, fallback, and what happens when no 4CP0 specialist is free

  • Specialist availability is stated before a match, not discovered later
  • Options when nobody is free: a different hour, a named wait, or a wider time zone
  • No silent substitution of a generalist for a specialist
  • The free first lesson is a diagnostic and produces a marked artefact
  • One free lesson per family, with no card details collected
  • If the diagnosis says the school should fix it, the note says that

Computer Science is a thinner market than maths or the sciences, in Abu Dhabi and everywhere else. There are weeks when the specialist a family needs, at the hour they need, is not free, and the honest thing is to say so rather than to place whoever is available and hope the parent cannot tell. A generalist who covers computing as a third subject can teach the written component respectably and will usually struggle with the onscreen one, and the evidence file makes that visible within a fortnight, which is the right outcome for everyone except the person who made the match.

So the fallback is disclosed before it is used. If no UAE-time specialist is free for the slot requested, the options are a different hour with the right teacher, a wait with a named date, or a specialist in another time zone whose working day overlaps an Abu Dhabi evening. The first is usually best and the third is sometimes the only one that works for an exam-year candidate in November. What does not happen is a silent substitution, because the whole argument of this page is that you should be able to read what you are buying.

The same transparency applies to the trial. The first lesson is free, one per family, and no card details are collected to book it. It is a diagnostic rather than a demonstration: both components are sampled, something is marked, and you get the written note at the end whether or not anything continues. If the note says the problem is one a school department should be fixing, that is what it will say. A page that argues for evidence has to accept the evidence sometimes points away from buying anything.

Where we tutor

Abu Dhabi communities we teach 4CP0 into

Abu Dhabi is a commute, not a point on a map. Where a family lives decides when a session can realistically start, and that single fact shapes the evidence file more than any teaching preference. These are the communities 4CP0 requests come from and what the timing looks like in each.

Al Reem Island

Apartment living with a short bridge commute, so students are often home before five. The practical constraint is shared study space, which makes a headset and a known quiet hour part of the plan rather than an afterthought.

Saadiyat Island

Villa communities with longer school runs to the island schools and a lot of after-school sport. Sessions here tend to settle at 18:30 or later, and the evidence note matters because parents often read it after the session rather than during.

Khalifa City

A large catchment feeding several British-curriculum schools, with school buses arriving in a wide window. Families here most often ask for a fixed weekly slot plus one movable revision hour in the fortnight before a mock.

Al Raha and Al Raha Beach

Short internal commutes but heavy traffic towards the island in the afternoon. A 4CP0 session works best after the bus rather than before homework, because the onscreen component needs a student who can still concentrate on a screen.

Yas Island

Newer housing with a young secondary cohort, so requests skew towards Year 10 rather than exam-year catch-up. That is the best time to fix programming fluency, while there is room in the calendar for a slow build.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City

Mainland community with a mix of curricula and some of the longest journeys to the island. Evening slots dominate, and the weekly artefact is often the only thing a working parent sees between mocks.

Al Mushrif and Al Bateen

Established island neighbourhoods close to several long-standing schools, so journeys are short and afternoon sessions are feasible. Requests here frequently come after a disappointing mock rather than at the start of the year.

Al Reef and the outer mainland

Lower-density communities where a local subject specialist in computing is genuinely hard to find. This is where online delivery changes the available teaching pool rather than merely the logistics of getting to it.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi island

The island schools are the oldest part of the market and the ones most likely to run Pearson rather than Cambridge for computing. Candidates here usually have a stable department and a predictable mock calendar, so the evidence file mostly fills gaps rather than reconstructing what was taught.

  • The British School Al Khubairat
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi
  • Abu Dhabi Grammar School
  • Cambridge High School
  • Merryland International School
  • Al Bateen Academy

Khalifa City, Al Raha and the mainland corridor

The fastest-growing part of the emirate for secondary enrolment, and the cluster where computing staffing varies most between years. Families here are the likeliest to ask what has actually been covered, which is exactly the question a specification checklist answers.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Raha International School
  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Repton Abu Dhabi
  • Emirates National Schools

Saadiyat, Yas and the newer island communities

Newer schools with younger cohorts, where Year 10 requests outnumber Year 11 panic. The useful work here is building the habit of writing and testing code weekly, long before the series entry is made.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Sherborne Abu Dhabi
  • West Yas Academy
  • Yasmina British Academy

Schools are named as context for the Abu Dhabi market, because students we support attend them. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation, partnership or endorsement from any school, school group, examination board or education authority named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the component, not just the subject

The first message that helps says which of the two 4CP0 components is the problem, or that you do not know. Either is fine. A recent marked script or mock paper, even a photograph of one, shortens the diagnostic by a session and makes the first hour about teaching rather than discovery.

  2. 02

A free diagnostic lesson, both components sampled

One free lesson per family, no card details. The hour samples written questions and one short programming task, and ends with something marked and a written note. You should finish it knowing which component is weaker and roughly by how much, whether or not you continue with us.

  3. 03

A plan with a checklist attached

The plan names the specification areas to be examined and in what order, the format of each session, and the slot in Gulf Standard Time. It is short on purpose. A plan you cannot check against the file after a month is a sales document rather than a plan.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions, each leaving an artefact

A fixed hour, the same slot, with the first minutes on last week's marked work. Every session ends with a marked script, a reviewed program or a completed trace table, plus one paragraph naming what moved and what is still open. That paragraph is the thing to read if you read nothing else.

  5. 05

    A comparable re-test, then a decision

In week five or six the topic from week two returns with a different question under the same conditions. Two marks on comparable work is a finding, and it is the point at which continuing, changing the plan or stopping becomes an informed choice rather than a feeling.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

You can read the evidence without reading code

Marked scripts, test tables and a dated specification checklist are all readable by a parent who has never programmed. That is deliberate: in a subject you cannot mark yourself, the only protection against paying for conversation is work with marks on it that you can inspect.

The two components are taught as two skills

Written precision and produced code fail differently and move at different speeds. Tracking them separately stops the stronger one absorbing the hour, which is the usual drift when a single weekly session is left to find its own shape.

No grade promises, in either direction

No tutor can guarantee a 4CP0 grade, and nothing here will suggest otherwise. What is offered is a comparable before and after on the same topic, under the same conditions, so the direction of travel is visible and arguable rather than asserted.

Prices on this page are the market's, with sources

Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider that published it, read in October 2026. IB Gram's own rate is agreed after the diagnostic, because an hour of vocabulary work and an hour of supervised programming are not the same product and should not carry one price.

Abu Dhabi specifics, not UAE generalities

ADEK rather than KHDA, the island and mainland commute patterns that decide when a session can start, and the option-block collisions between 4CP0 and 4IT1 that happen in this emirate's British-curriculum schools. A page that would work for any city is a page that helps nobody.

Delivery is stated plainly

Online, one-to-one, over live video, with no home visits anywhere in the UAE. You will not find a sentence on this page implying someone will arrive at your door, and the comparison with the in-home market is made on cost, pool and record rather than avoided.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What evidence should I have seen after a month of 4CP0 lessons?+

Four things, at minimum. A diagnostic from the first session covering both components. At least two marked written sections, with the mark scheme wording placed next to your child's wording so the gap is visible. One program your child wrote unaided, with a test table showing what happened when it was given bad input. And a dated checklist of which specification areas have been examined and which have not. If after a month you have none of those, you have bought conversation rather than teaching, and the right question to ask is not whether your child is improving but what exists on paper.

How do I tell whether my child's 4CP0 problem is theory or programming?+

Ask for one timed written section and one short programming task, both marked, in the same week. The results separate almost immediately. A candidate who writes fluent answers in specification language but cannot start a program from an empty editor has a production problem, and that is slow to fix and needs weekly code writing. A candidate who programs competently but loses written marks has a vocabulary and command-term problem, which is the fastest-moving fix in the subject. Averaging the two into one grade conversation hides the difference, and families end up buying the hours the weaker diagnosis needed.

Why does my child's program run but still score badly in the onscreen paper?+

Because running is not what the marks are for. Credit is available for validating input before using it, handling the empty or out-of-range case, structuring repetition in a loop rather than copying a block four times, naming variables so a reader can follow them, and showing evidence that the program was tested. A program that produces the right answer for the example in the question and breaks on everything else is a common and well-understood pattern. The fix is a review habit: read the program for the marks it is claiming, then deliberately break it with inputs the example never covered.

Which Pearson series should an Abu Dhabi candidate be entered for?+

That decision belongs to the school's exams officer, not to a tutor, and it is worth confirming in writing early. Pearson runs International GCSE examinations in a May/June series and a November series each year. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. Ask which series your child is entered for, whether both 4CP0 components fall in the same window, and what the school's internal deadline for changes is. Build any revision plan from the live official Pearson timetable rather than a date copied onto a tutoring page, because provisional timetables are revised ahead of each series.

How is progress measured in a subject with no internal assessment?+

With comparable work rather than coverage. 4CP0 has no coursework, so there is no draft to improve and no moderation mark to watch. What substitutes is a deliberate repeat: a timed section on a topic in week two, and a different question on the same topic under the same conditions in week five or six. Two marks on comparable work two weeks apart is evidence. A mock score compared with a lesson impression is not. The second measure is the specification checklist, which shows coverage and, more usefully, what is still unexamined before the series.

What does 4CP0 teaching cost per hour in Abu Dhabi?+

Published market rates, read in October 2026, run from roughly AED 45 an hour at the student-tutor end to AED 650 for a premium named tutor. Qualified subject tutors online are advertised from AED 150, specialist IGCSE support around AED 270, and agency-arranged in-home visits from AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the rate. Those are other providers' own published figures. IB Gram does not publish a rate card on these pages: the first lesson is free, one per family, and a continuing rate is agreed after the diagnostic, because written-paper work and supervised programming are not the same product.

Can a tutor use AI to write my child's practice programs?+

No, and a tutor who does is selling you the appearance of progress. A model will produce a working program for a 4CP0-style problem in seconds, which leaves a student with a full homework folder and no production skill, then an onscreen examination they cannot start. The check is simple and you can run it yourself: ask your child why a particular line in their program exists. A student who wrote it can answer in a sentence. A student who did not will describe what the program does instead. Asked weekly, that question is more effective than any policy.

Does 4CP0 have any coursework a tutor would need to supervise?+

No. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Computer Science is assessed by its two examinations, and nothing is submitted for moderation, so the academic-honesty question is about practice work rather than assessed work. That is a genuine difference from the IB Diploma, where internally assessed work is submitted and authenticated and the boundaries become formal. Families with children on both routes meet the distinction at some point; it is worth knowing which rules apply to which child. Either way, a tutor teaches, reviews and marks the student's own work and never produces work a student will present as their own.

How many hours does a Year 11 in Abu Dhabi usually need before the series?+

It depends on which of four problems is present, and an honest answer needs the diagnostic first. Command terms and vocabulary often move in three or four sessions. Binary and hexadecimal fluency moves on short daily drills over a few weeks. Programming production is the slow one, measured in weeks of writing code unaided rather than hours of explanation. Clock management only improves under timed conditions. Most exam-year families settle on one weekly hour plus a denser block six to eight weeks out, then review against the evidence file rather than renewing automatically.

Will lessons fit around an Abu Dhabi school bus timetable?+

Yes, and the timing question is worth settling before the first lesson rather than after. Mainland communities such as Mohammed Bin Zayed City and Al Reef have the longest journeys, so evening slots work better there; island neighbourhoods like Al Mushrif and Al Bateen can usually manage a late-afternoon hour. Saadiyat and Yas families often have sport after school and settle at 18:30 or later. All sessions run in Gulf Standard Time. For a programming session the useful rule is to book it when the student can still concentrate on a screen, which for most is after the bus and before homework fatigue.

Can 4CP0 coursework sessions move to post-Iftar timings during Ramadan?+

Yes. Abu Dhabi schools shorten the day during Ramadan and family routines shift substantially, so fixed afternoon slots often stop working for a month. Moving a session to after Iftar is normal and is easier online than it would be with a travelling tutor, because no journey has to be rescheduled around it. The same flexibility applies to the weeks around mocks, when a school's own timed papers are better evidence than anything a tutor can set, and the sensible move is to pause new content and work from the returned scripts instead.

Are 4CP0 lessons for Abu Dhabi families taught online or at our home?+

Online, one-to-one, over live video. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi or anywhere else in the UAE, and no tutor will arrive at an Abu Dhabi address; in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. For this subject the online format is the stronger one: the work happens on a screen regardless, a shared screen with two cursors lets a teacher see an error as it is typed, and the artefacts stay in a file you can read. Published in-home rates in the market, AED 180 to 500 an hour, also carry travel inside them.

What does ADEK publish about a school's computing provision?+

ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in Abu Dhabi and publishes inspection outcomes, which is the document to read before buying tutoring. It will not grade computing on its own, so the useful reading is indirect: judgements on teaching quality and progress in the relevant phase, and any comment on provision or staffing. Read alongside your child's school reports, that usually reveals whether a department changed hands mid-cohort. If it did, the specification checklist matters more than usual, because the school's own record of what was taught may have gaps in it.

Does my child need a particular laptop or software for 4CP0 sessions?+

Very little, and it is worth checking before the first lesson rather than discovering it mid-session. A laptop or desktop with a working Python environment and a browser is enough, plus a headset for a shared apartment. The common obstacle in Abu Dhabi is a school-issued device with locked software, which can block installing an interpreter or sharing a screen; a home machine avoids that. A tablet is workable for the written component and poor for the onscreen one, since the paper rewards typing speed and comfortable editing rather than reading.

Do Arabic and Islamic Education affect a computing option block in Abu Dhabi?+

Indirectly, and it is a real scheduling constraint rather than a technicality. UAE private schools must deliver Arabic, Islamic Education and social or moral studies alongside their licensed international curriculum, with instructional time set by the authorities. That compresses the rest of the week, and in some schools 4CP0 and 4IT1 end up timetabled against each other because there is no room for both. It also means the mandatory subjects carry their own marks and deadlines. For equivalency purposes, Arabic and Islamic Education are not counted among the five accredited subjects the Ministry of Education requires on the British track.

What happens if no UAE-time 4CP0 specialist is free for our slot?+

You are told before a match is made, not afterwards. Computer Science is a thinner market than maths or the sciences, and there are weeks when the right teacher is not free at the hour requested. The options are a different hour with the right specialist, a wait with a named date, or a specialist in another time zone whose working day overlaps an Abu Dhabi evening. The first is usually best and the third is sometimes the only workable one in an exam term. What should not happen is a generalist placed quietly in a specialist slot.

Start with a diagnostic, then read what it produced

The first lesson is free, one per family, and no card details are collected to book it. It samples both 4CP0 components, marks something, and ends with a written note naming what is weak and what the first four weeks would do about it. You should finish that hour with a document rather than an impression, and you should be able to read it without being able to mark Computer Science yourself. If the note says the gap is one your child's school department should be closing, it will say that. Tell us the component, the school and a workable hour in Gulf Standard Time, and attach a marked script if you have one.
