IB Tutor near me in Umm Al Quwain

Searching for an IB tutor near me in Umm Al Quwain returns a short map and no prices, which is the opposite of what a parent needs. This page publishes the market bands in dirhams, names the six things that move the number in this emirate specifically, and explains why proximity is the most expensive filter you can apply first. Sessions are one-to-one over live video.

IB & IGCSE in Umm Al Quwain

Why "near me" is the wrong first filter here

A parent searching for a tutor near them is doing something sensible for almost every other service. For a plumber, proximity is quality: the nearest competent one arrives soonest and charges least for getting there. For IB tuition in Umm Al Quwain, proximity does the opposite. It shrinks a small pool to a tiny one and then charges you for the privilege, because whoever is nearest is also whoever has to be paid to drive.

Start with the arithmetic that local searches hide. Umm Al Quwain is the least populous emirate. Most of the students here sitting the Diploma attend school in Sharjah, Ajman or Ras Al Khaimah, so the subject teachers who know those courses live where those schools are. The tutoring market a search for "near me" is drawing on is roughly an hour down the Emirates Road in ordinary traffic, which means a one-hour booking costs the tutor two hours of driving. That is paid for somewhere: in the rate, in a two-hour minimum, or in the reliability of the slot.

Now the prices, because almost nobody in this market publishes them. Three of the six pages ranking for UAE tutoring queries carry no figure at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, which is not the currency a family here transacts in. This page quotes the market in dirhams and names where each figure came from. These are market bands compiled from providers' own published rates and from Bestimate's 2026 Dubai tutoring cost table - they are not IB Gram's price list, and the honest answer to what IB Gram charges begins with a free trial lesson and a conversation about what the student actually needs.

Six things move the number in this emirate, and they are worth knowing before any call: the level, the subject's scarcity, the format, the session length, how close the examination session is, and whether travel is involved. A quote that moves AED 150 an hour between two providers usually has four of those six behind it, not a difference in quality. The sections below take each one apart.

One thing no quote should include is a promised result. There are no grade guarantees in any honest version of this service, and a rate justified by a claimed improvement is justified by something nobody can evidence. What a rate should buy is specific and checkable: a diagnosis, work set and marked between sessions, and an hour taught by somebody who has used the mark scheme for the course in question.

Delivery here is one-to-one over live video, and IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in the UAE; home visits are offered only in India, and there is no UAE office or centre. The relevant consequence for cost is simple: nothing is charged for travel because nothing travels, and the specialist can be matched to the student's actual course rather than to a postcode. For a student in Al Salamah entered for Higher Level Chemistry, that is the difference between a specialist and whatever is nearby.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Cost follows the stage of the programme more than the subject, because what is being bought changes. These notes set out what families here typically spend their hours on at each stage.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

The cheapest point in the whole journey to buy help, and the one families skip. Sessions here are shorter, the content is less specialised, and the market rate sits at the lower end because a strong generalist can teach it well. One term in Year 9 often costs less than a month of rescue work in the final Diploma year.

In this emirate the saving is larger than average, because the alternative later is a scarce Higher Level specialist in a term when every slot is taken. Families in Al Raas and Al Riqqa who start at Middle Years Programme level typically spend less in total across five years than those who start in the second Diploma year.

DPAges 16-17 · Year 12

Diploma Programme, first year

The best value hours in the Diploma, because Internal Assessment marks are still available and the exploration or investigation is worth around a fifth of a subject grade. A block of sessions on a research question and a method, bought early, is cheaper than the same marks chased through paper practice a year later.

The school's internal deadline list governs when this spend is useful, and students here attend schools in other emirates with their own draft dates. Buying Internal Assessment support two weeks before a school deadline costs the same as buying it two months before and delivers considerably less.

DPAges 17-19 · Year 13

Diploma Programme, final year

The most expensive hours in the market, for two reasons. Specialists are scarcest in the months before a session, so the premium band applies, and the work itself is paper practice and marking, which is labour-intensive. Market rates for named specialist exam-year support run at the upper end of every published range.

Families here feel this harder than most because the pool is small and the choice narrows first in the northern emirates. Arranging final-year support during the first term, rather than in the term the papers are sat, is the single largest saving available to a parent in this emirate.

MoEAll year groups

Mandatory UAE subjects

Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies run alongside the licensed curriculum under the Ministry's general regulations, and support for them is priced like any other subject. Because the use of different or additional content for these subjects requires prior Ministry permission, the work follows the school's own scheme.

Private schools in Umm Al Quwain are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, so there is no emirate-level fee or curriculum framework to compare against. Ask the school directly what is required before paying for support in these subjects.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Some subjects carry a premium and others do not, and it is scarcity rather than difficulty that sets it. These entries say which is which for families searching from this emirate.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The most requested subject in the market, so supply is reasonable and rates sit mid-band at Standard Level. Higher Level, particularly the third paper, is where the premium appears, because the pool of tutors who have taught sustained problem-solving to examination standard is much smaller than the pool who can teach the syllabus.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Priced similarly to Analysis and Approaches, with one difference worth knowing: the course rewards calculator technique, so an hour spent on keystrokes and reasoning returns marks quickly. That makes short blocks unusually cost-effective compared with an open-ended weekly commitment.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The most common Higher Level request from this emirate and one of the clearest premium subjects. Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms need a genuine specialist, and in a small emirate there is rarely one within driving distance at any rate, which is why the local search returns so little.

Physics

HL and SL

A premium subject for the same reason, with the added point that much of the available improvement is in method habits - symbols before numbers, units carried through - which are cheap to fix once diagnosed. A short diagnostic block often costs less and returns more than a term of weekly sessions.

Biology

HL and SL

Mid-band pricing with good availability. Because the losses are usually terminology precision and command-term mismatch rather than conceptual gaps, families often buy fewer hours here than they expect to and spend them on spoken recall testing rather than on content delivery.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Widely available and mid-band, with essay marking the labour-intensive part. Pricing conversations here should be about how much written work is marked per month rather than about the hourly figure, because marking is where the cost and the value both sit.

Economics and Business Management

HL and SL

Reasonable availability at mid-band rates. The Internal Assessment work - commentaries within strict word limits, or a case-based report - is the part worth buying early, since those marks are banked once submitted and cannot be recovered through paper practice later.

Group 2 languages and specialist options

HL and SL

The genuine scarcity cases. A less commonly taught second language or a specialist Higher Level option paper may have no local tutor in the northern emirates at all, which is why those requests take longest to match and why a non-local specialist is sometimes the only real option.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Core

Usually bought as a short block rather than weekly, and priced accordingly. The work is criteria reading and interrogation of a draft the student has written, so three or four well-timed sessions around the school's draft dates typically do more than a standing commitment.

Arabic and Islamic Education

First language and additional language streams

Priced like any language subject, with the constraint that support follows the school's own scheme because additional content for these mandatory subjects requires prior Ministry permission. Ask what the school expects before committing to a block.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to buy, and they cost different amounts for good reasons. All are delivered one-to-one over live video, with no travel charged because nothing travels.

Weekly standing session

The standard arrangement: one subject, one fixed hour a week, work set and marked between sessions. Priced per hour at the market rate for the subject and level. Best value across a term or longer, because the diagnosis improves with each marked script and the error log carries forward.

  • Billed per session at a per-hour rate
  • Marked work included rather than charged separately
  • Best suited to the first Diploma year and Middle Years Programme
  • Cheapest per mark gained when run for a term or more

Fixed block for one assessment

Three to six sessions aimed at a single Internal Assessment, oral or paper. Priced as a block so a family knows the total before starting. Often the highest-value purchase in the Diploma, because the marks involved are banked once the work is submitted and cannot be recovered later by any amount of paper practice.

  • Total cost known in advance
  • Timed to the school's own draft dates
  • Criteria audited against the student's own draft
  • No commitment beyond the block

Exam-term intensive

A short, higher-frequency run in the weeks before a session: papers sat to time, marked to the published scheme, error log maintained. The most expensive format per week in any market, because specialist availability is tightest then, which is the argument for arranging it in the first term rather than the last.

  • Two or more sessions a week for a defined period
  • Marking volume is the main cost driver
  • Specialist availability is scarcest in these weeks
  • Book early; the price is availability, not greed

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Umm Al Quwain

01

What a local search actually returns in Umm Al Quwain

  • Local listings often serve the whole country from another emirate
  • A map pin shows a registration address, not a tutor's location
  • Ask about subject and level before availability or price
  • Ask what is marked between sessions, and how often
  • Get the rate in AED per hour with inclusions stated

Type the query and look at what comes back. A handful of directory listings, most of them for Dubai businesses with a national service area. Some centre-based providers in Sharjah or Ajman. A few classified adverts. Almost no prices, and almost nothing that names a subject at a level - which is the only thing that matters for an IB student.

The reason is structural rather than suspicious. Local search ranks businesses by proximity, prominence and relevance, and a small emirate with few registered tutoring businesses has little to rank. The listings that do appear are frequently serving the whole country from elsewhere, which means the map pin is telling you where a company registered, not where a tutor sits.

This produces a specific risk for a parent. The nearest listing looks like the lowest-friction option, so it gets the call, and the conversation starts with availability rather than with whether anybody there has taught Higher Level Chemistry. A quote arrives, it sounds reasonable, and nobody has yet asked what the tutor will actually be marking. That is how a family ends up paying mid-band rates for a generalist.

The better sequence inverts it. Decide the subject, level and the examination session first. Ask what is set and marked between sessions. Ask the rate, in dirhams, per hour, with what is included. Only then consider where anybody is sitting - and for a format delivered over live video, that last question stops mattering at all.

02

The price of an hour, and the six things that move it

Two quotes for the same subject can differ by more than AED 200 an hour, and quality explains less of that gap than parents assume. Six factors do most of the work, and they are all askable about on a first call.

Level comes first: Higher Level commands more than Standard Level because the teaching pool is smaller, and the gap widens for papers few tutors have taught. Scarcity is second and is partly about the subject - a specialist option paper or a less commonly taught language has no local supply in the northern emirates - and partly about the hour: a 6pm Gulf Standard Time slot on a weekday is the most contested hour in the week. Format is third, and it is where the biggest single difference sits, because an in-home visit prices the travel as well as the teaching.

Session length is fourth and is often mispriced in a family's favour. Ninety minutes rarely costs 50% more than sixty in the market, but it does not produce 50% more learning for a tired student after a long commute, so the cheaper unit rate can be false economy. Proximity to the examination session is fifth: specialist availability tightens in the final two terms and the premium bands apply. Travel is sixth, and in this emirate it is the loudest of the six.

What should not move a price is a promise about outcomes. A rate justified by a claimed grade improvement is being justified by something nobody can evidence or deliver, and in a market where one provider sells completed Internal Assessments outright, a premium attached to a result rather than to a service deserves scepticism.

Market rates in dirhams, with sources

Here are the bands, compiled from providers' own published figures and from Bestimate's 2026 Dubai tutoring cost table, with the source named beside each so a parent can judge rather than trust. The figures below describe the market; they are not IB Gram's price list.

At the entry level, online tuition from a university student or a general tutor is advertised from the mid-forties upward in dirhams per hour, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. A qualified subject tutor working online occupies the band most families here end up in, with Unitors listing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. For an in-home visit with travel included, Bestimate shows AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors advertise AED 200 to 500. A named IB, IGCSE or A-Level specialist runs from around AED 200 to AED 450 and beyond, with TutorChase publishing AED 270. At the top, premium examiner-marketed tutors reach AED 500 to 650 or more, with BartyED publishing AED 650.

Packages are quoted monthly as often as hourly. The market shows around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a single weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

Two cautions before comparing. First, check what the monthly figure includes: eight sessions a month at AED 799 is a different product from four if marking is included in one and not the other. Second, a rate quoted in dollars or pounds by an international platform usually lands at the upper end of the dirham band once converted, which is worth doing before a comparison rather than after a payment.

Tutoring cost in context: fees, entries and the two-year plan

An hourly rate means nothing without a total, and a total means nothing without the rest of the education budget beside it. This is the calculation almost no tutoring page shows, and it is the one that actually decides how many hours a family buys.

Start with the fee environment. Dubai's authority confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under the second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Dubai also added seven new private schools for 2026-27, four British curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places after a 6% enrolment rise in 2025-26. That is a Dubai picture, not a northern-emirates one, but it sets the backdrop: fees are the dominant line and tutoring is the discretionary one.

Then build the tutoring total for a realistic plan rather than a worst case. One subject at one weekly hour through a school year is around 30 to 34 sessions. Two subjects in the final year, plus a block for each Internal Assessment and a short intensive before the session, is the heaviest pattern most families here run, and it is worth costing out on paper before the first session rather than discovering it in April.

Private candidate entry fees are a separate line and are set by the school or centre entering the student, not by a tutor. If a student is being entered privately rather than through a school, ask the centre for the fee in writing early, because it varies by centre and series and it is not something any tutoring service can quote for you.

Provider models compared, without naming a villain

Every tutoring page in this market compares itself against an unnamed straw man. A more useful comparison is between models, because each has a genuine case and a genuine weakness, and a family's circumstances decide which fits.

A specialist agency matches by subject and usually marks work, at a mid to upper rate. An international marketplace offers the widest choice and the least quality control, often quoting in another currency. A freelance independent tutor can be excellent and is the only model where a parent deals directly with the teacher, but there is no replacement if the match fails and no second opinion if it drifts. A tuition centre group class is the cheapest per hour and the least individual, which suits content revision and not a specific criterion problem. School-run support is usually free and tied to the teacher who already teaches the class.

Across all of them, two questions separate a good arrangement from a bad one at any price. What is set and marked between sessions? And what happens if the match is wrong? A model that cannot answer the second is asking a family to carry the risk of its matching, which matters more in a small emirate where the alternative pool is thin.

One legal check applies to every model. Paid private tutoring in the UAE runs through a work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so any amount quoted online is unverified. Since the permit costs nothing, a tutor who has not obtained one has simply not done it, and that is a fair thing to ask about before paying anybody.

What a cheap hour usually costs later

  • The budget band suits homework support, recall work and structure
  • Diploma mark loss is usually technical and needs scheme literacy to diagnose
  • Hours that produce no diagnosis cost twice: the fee and the term
  • Insist on a written diagnostic from the first session
  • Specialist availability is tightest exactly when you discover you need it

The budget band is real and it has legitimate uses. For Middle Years Programme homework support, for building recall in a content-heavy subject, or for a student who mainly needs company and structure while working, a tutor at the lower end of the market is good value and nobody should be talked out of it.

Where it goes wrong is the Diploma. The marks a Diploma student is losing are usually technical: a command term read at the wrong depth, an Internal Assessment criterion misunderstood, method marks not claimed because working was not shown. Diagnosing those requires somebody who has used the mark scheme, and that is exactly what the lower band does not buy. The hour is pleasant, the student feels helped, and the same three errors appear on the next script.

The cost shows up twice. Once in the fee for hours that produced no diagnosis, and again in the lost time, which is the expensive part. A term spent on the wrong problem in the first Diploma year is a term unavailable later, and in this emirate the later term is when specialist availability is tightest and the premium band applies. The cheap hour is frequently the most expensive purchase in the plan.

The practical defence is not to spend more. It is to spend the first hour on a diagnostic and demand a written output from it: the specific marks being lost, named, with the command terms or criteria involved. That costs nothing when the trial session is free, and it tells you in an hour what six weeks of pleasant sessions will not.

07

VAT, cancellations and the questions nobody asks before paying

  • Confirm whether the rate is per hour or per session
  • Ask the provider to state whether their own price includes VAT
  • Get the cancellation window in hours, both ways
  • Ask how many marked pieces a month are included
  • A free trial should state its length and conditions up front

Most of the unpleasant surprises in tutoring are administrative rather than academic, and all of them are avoidable with four questions asked before the first payment.

First, is the quoted figure per hour or per session? A ninety-minute session quoted at an hourly rate is a different number from the one a parent heard, and this is the most common misunderstanding in the market. Second, is the quoted price inclusive of VAT? The correct answer is a clear statement about the specific price being quoted; the UAE tax treatment of education services is a matter for the Federal Tax Authority and not something a tutoring page should characterise, so ask the provider to state plainly whether their own figure includes it.

Third, what is the cancellation and rescheduling policy, in hours? A student in this emirate can be delayed by a school bus, and a policy requiring twenty-four hours' notice behaves very differently from one requiring twelve. Ask also what happens if the tutor cancels, which providers mention less often. Fourth, what exactly is included: is marking of set work inside the hourly rate or billed separately, and how many pieces per month?

A fifth question is worth adding wherever the word free appears. A free trial should come with its stated conditions visible on the same screen - how long it lasts, who it is available to, and whether any card details are required. Ours is one session with the tutor who would teach, with no card required and no obligation. Any version of that offer worth taking will answer the same three points without being chased.

08

What proximity costs you in choice

Return to the original search. A parent looking for a tutor near them in Umm Al Quwain is applying a filter that, in this emirate, removes most of the useful options before the conversation starts. It is worth being precise about what is being traded.

What proximity buys is real: a person in the room, physical materials, supervision of a younger child, and for some students a level of engagement a screen does not produce. For a Middle Years Programme student who will not work with a laptop, that is decisive and a family should act on it.

What it costs is choice and reliability. The pool within driving distance of this emirate is small, and the subset of it that has taught a given Higher Level course to examination standard is smaller again, often empty. Once a tutor has to drive an hour each way, the arrangement carries a loading in the rate, a minimum booking, or a fragile slot - and in the final Diploma year, a fragile slot is the costly failure, because the weeks lost cannot be bought back at any price.

IB Gram does not sell in-home visits in the UAE; that is an India-only service, and no UAE office or centre exists. The trade on offer here is explicit: no travel charge, a specialist matched to the course rather than the postcode, a fixed slot in Gulf Standard Time, and a free trial lesson so the match is tested before any money moves. For a family in Falaj Al Mualla or Al Humrah, that is usually not a compromise but the only version of the service that works.

Where we tutor

What families across Umm Al Quwain are quoted

Quotes vary across this small emirate, and the variation is almost entirely about travel rather than teaching. These notes describe what parents in each area report being asked for.

Al Salamah

The best-served part of the emirate, and still the place where in-home quotes carry a travel loading from the Sharjah market. Parents here report the widest spread between an online rate and an in-person one, often a difference of AED 100 or more an hour for the same subject.

Al Raas

Households with more than one child often ask about a shared rate. The market answer is usually a small discount for a second sibling, but the useful question is whether work is still marked separately, because a shared hour with one set of marking is not two services.

Al Riqqa

Closest to the Sharjah road, so in-person quotes here are the least inflated in the emirate. It is also where families most often compare a tuition centre in Sharjah against a weekly online session, and the comparison turns on travel time rather than on the hourly figure.

Umm Al Quwain Marina and the corniche

Newer households, often recently relocated, and the group most likely to be quoted an international rate in dollars or pounds. Converting those into dirhams before comparing is worth the two minutes; a quote in another currency is usually at the top of the local band.

Al Humrah and Al Haditha

On the Ras Al Khaimah side, so the relevant local market is RAK rather than Sharjah. Travel loadings are smaller from that direction, but the specialist pool is smaller too, which shows up as a longer wait rather than a higher price.

Falaj Al Mualla

The clearest case in the emirate against proximity as a filter. In-person quotes here either carry a substantial travel charge or do not arrive at all, and families report that a fixed online slot costs less than the in-home option they were originally quoted.

School ecosystem

Fees and the wider cost picture

Tutoring is one line in a larger education budget, and the comparison matters when deciding how many hours to buy. Dubai publishes its sector data in detail - 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 curricula in 2024-25, with International Baccalaureate students making up 7% - which is useful context even though the schools below sit outside that emirate.

Where the local tutoring market actually sits

The nearest concentration of IB subject teachers is around the Sharjah and Ajman schools, roughly an hour from most of this emirate. That distance is the single biggest determinant of an in-home quote here, and it is why a northern-emirates family sees different numbers from a Dubai one.

  • Sharjah American International School
  • Wesgreen International School
  • Emirates National School, Sharjah
  • Our Own English High School, Ras Al Khaimah

Schools inside Umm Al Quwain

Provision in the emirate is supervised by the federal Ministry of Education and does not extend far into the Diploma, so IB enquiries from here almost always concern a school elsewhere. For a family weighing a move, school fees and the commute cost belong in the same calculation as tutoring.

  • Umm Al Quwain private schools under Ministry of Education supervision
  • Indian-curriculum schools serving Al Salamah and Al Raas
  • British-curriculum provision in the emirate
  • Ministry schools serving Falaj Al Mualla

Schools are named as context for the regional education system only; no affiliation, endorsement or relationship with IB Gram is implied, and fees and programme provision should be confirmed with each school directly.

Say the subject, the level and the session

Three facts produce a useful answer about cost: the subject, whether it is Higher or Standard Level, and which examination session the student is entered for. Those determine which band applies and how much availability exists, which is most of what a parent is actually asking when they ask the price.

  2. 02

Take the free trial before discussing money

The first session is free, is with the tutor who would teach, and produces a written diagnostic naming the specific marks being lost. Deciding about rates after that document exists is a different decision from deciding before, because you can see what an hour produces.

  3. 03

Agree what is included, in writing

Per hour or per session, how many marked pieces a month, the cancellation window in hours both ways, and whether the quoted figure includes VAT. Four answers, written down once, remove almost every billing dispute that happens in this market.

  4. 04

Start with one subject and one hour a week

One subject weekly is the right starting point for nearly every family here, because the commute leaves a short evening and work set between sessions matters more than a second session. It also makes the six-week review honest, since there is a clean record of what one hour moved.

  5. 05

Review the spend at six weeks

Six weeks of marked work shows whether the error types are reducing. If they are, the arrangement is earning its cost. If they are not, change the method or the tutor rather than adding hours, because more of something that is not working is simply a larger bill.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Prices in dirhams, with the source named

The market bands on this page carry the provider or report each figure came from, so a quote can be judged against something. Three of the six pages ranking for these queries publish no figure at all, and the two that do quote in a currency families here do not transact in.

No travel charge, because nothing travels

The largest single loading on an in-home quote in this emirate is the hour's drive from the Sharjah market in each direction. A session delivered over live video removes it from the price and from the reliability of the slot at the same time.

A free trial that produces a document

One session with the tutor who would teach, no card required, and a written diagnostic you keep either way. Deciding about cost with that in hand is better than deciding from a rate card, because it shows what an hour actually produces.

Specialists matched to the course, not the postcode

In the least populous emirate, proximity filters out most of the useful options first. Matching by subject and level instead means a Higher Level student is taught by somebody who has used that mark scheme, which is what the hourly rate is supposed to buy.

Inclusions stated before payment

Per hour or per session, how much marking is included, the cancellation window in hours both ways, and whether a quoted figure includes VAT. These are the four things that cause disputes, and they are settled in writing at the start.

No price justified by a promised result

There are no grade guarantees here and no claimed improvement figures, because nobody can evidence them. A premium attached to an outcome rather than to a service is worth questioning anywhere in this market, and particularly where one provider sells completed coursework outright.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Umm Al Quwain: your questions answered

How much does an IB tutor cost per hour for a family in Umm Al Quwain?+

Market rates, with sources, run roughly AED 45 to 150 an hour for a budget online tutor, AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit including travel, and AED 200 to 450 or more for a named IB specialist, with premium examiner-marketed tutors at AED 500 to 650 and above. Most families in this emirate end up in the qualified-subject-tutor band. Those are market figures compiled from providers' own published rates and Bestimate's 2026 table, not IB Gram's price list, and our own arrangement starts with a free trial lesson.

Why does an in-home quote here cost more than the same quote in Dubai?+

Because of the drive. The nearest concentration of IB subject teachers sits around the Sharjah and Ajman schools, roughly an hour from most of Umm Al Quwain in ordinary traffic, so a one-hour booking costs the tutor two hours of travel. That gets paid for in one of three ways: a higher hourly rate, a two-hour minimum booking, or a slot that moves whenever the road does. Published in-home bands of AED 180 to 500 are Dubai-market figures, and quotes from this emirate tend to sit at or above the top of them.

What makes one tutor's rate AED 150 and another's AED 400?+

Six things, and quality is only part of one of them. Higher Level costs more than Standard Level because the pool is smaller. A scarce subject or a specialist option paper costs more, or has no local supply at all. An in-home format prices travel as well as teaching. A longer session has a lower unit rate. Rates rise in the final two terms before an examination session as availability tightens. And distance to this emirate loads the number. Ask about each and most of the gap between two quotes explains itself.

Is a monthly package better value than paying per hour?+

Only if you check what is in it. The market shows around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions, but eight sessions with marking included is a different product from eight without. Bestimate's monthly estimates for one weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-band and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work. Compare the per-session figure, then compare what is marked, before comparing the headline monthly number.

When is the cheapest time to buy IB tutoring?+

Early, and this is the largest saving available to a family in this emirate. Internal Assessment marks are worth around a fifth of a subject grade, are available in the first Diploma year, and are banked once submitted - so a block bought around the school's draft dates costs the same as one bought late and delivers considerably more. In the final two terms, specialist availability is tightest, premium bands apply and the choice narrows first in the northern emirates. The expensive route is discovering in the final term that you need somebody scarce.

Does a tutoring price quoted to an Umm Al Quwain family include VAT?+

Ask the provider to state it plainly about their own figure, and get the answer in writing. The UAE tax treatment of education services is a matter for the Federal Tax Authority, and a tutoring page should not characterise it; what a parent needs is a clear statement about the specific number being quoted to them. While you are asking, settle the other three administrative questions too: whether the rate is per hour or per session, how many marked pieces a month are included, and the cancellation window in hours in both directions.

What should the cancellation policy be for a student commuting from this emirate?+

Shorter notice than a Dubai policy would need, because a school bus from Sharjah or Ras Al Khaimah can be delayed by an hour without warning. A twelve-hour window behaves very differently from a twenty-four-hour one in practice. Ask the question in both directions: what happens if your child cannot make the slot, and what happens if the tutor cancels. The second is mentioned far less often in this market and is the one that costs a family a week of planned revision.

Is a group class cheaper and is it worth it?+

Cheaper per hour, yes, and worth it for some purposes. Group classes suit content revision, recall practice and structure, and for a student who simply needs to cover ground again they are good value. They do not suit the thing most Diploma students are actually losing marks to, which is specific: one criterion misread, one command term answered at the wrong depth, method marks not claimed. Diagnosing that requires somebody looking at your child's own script, which a group format does not provide at any price.

Do you charge for the trial lesson or ask for card details?+

No. The trial is one session with the tutor who would actually teach, with no card required and no obligation to continue, and it produces a written diagnostic you keep whether or not you proceed. That document names the specific marks being lost and the command terms or criteria involved. Wherever you see the word free in this market, ask for the conditions on the same screen: how long the trial is, who it is open to, and whether any payment details are needed up front.

Can we pay for a fixed block rather than committing weekly?+

Yes, and for some purposes a block is the better purchase. Three to six sessions aimed at one Internal Assessment, one oral or one paper gives a family a known total and no standing commitment, and it is often the highest-value spend in the Diploma because those marks are banked once the work is submitted. Weekly sessions earn their keep differently: the diagnosis improves with each marked script and the error log carries forward, which is why a term or more is where the weekly format pays.

How do I check a tutor is legally allowed to take payment in the UAE?+

Ask whether they hold the private tutor work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so any figure quoted to you is unverified - and since the permit is free, not having one is a choice.

How many hours in total should we budget for a Diploma student?+

Cost the realistic pattern rather than the worst case. One subject at one weekly hour through a school year is about 30 to 34 sessions. The heaviest arrangement most families here run is two subjects weekly in the final year, plus a block for each Internal Assessment and a short intensive before the session. Put that on paper before the first session rather than discovering it in April. And remember the alternative to planning it is not spending less - it is spending more, later, when availability is tightest.

Are international platforms quoting in dollars cheaper than local rates?+

Usually not, once converted. Two of the pages ranking for these queries quote in US dollars and one leads with pounds, and the resulting figures generally land at the upper end of the dirham band. The conversion takes two minutes and is worth doing before a comparison rather than after a payment. There is a second thing to check with an overseas platform: whether the conversion path for support and scheduling runs through a UAE contact point, and whether the quoted rate includes the marking a Diploma student needs.

Should we pay more for a tutor who advertises examiner experience?+

Only with evidence, and even then for a specific reason. Current examiner status is not something a family can easily verify, and it should never be presented as access to marking, boundaries or paper content, because no such access exists. What a genuinely experienced marker offers is scheme literacy - method marks, error carried forward, level descriptors - and that is testable in a trial session by watching how they mark a piece of your child's work. Test the marking rather than the title, and let the premium follow what you see.

Get the diagnostic first, then talk about rates

Deciding on tutoring from a price list is harder than it needs to be. Tell us the subject, the level and the examination session, and we will arrange a free trial lesson with the tutor who would teach - one-to-one over live video, no card details, no obligation. You will get a written diagnostic naming the specific marks being lost, and you keep it either way. Then the question about cost becomes answerable, because you will know what an hour produces rather than only what it is advertised at. The market bands on this page are published so you can judge any quote, including ours.
