IB Diploma Tutor in Umm Al Quwain

Before you ask what an IB diploma tutor charges per hour in Umm Al Quwain, ask what the whole Diploma costs. A hourly figure tells you almost nothing across a two-year programme with six subjects, three core components and a final stretch that swallows hours. This page prices the Diploma as a project: the phases, the published dirham bands with their sources, the costs nobody quotes until results day, and the points money cannot buy. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Every dirham figure here is a published market band with its source named
  • Priced by phase across DP1 and DP2, not by a single hourly rate
  • One-to-one over live video, with no travel element inside the hour
  • The MoHRE private tuition work permit is issued free of charge for two years

IB & IGCSE in Umm Al Quwain

Price the programme, not the hour

An hourly rate is the wrong unit for the IB Diploma. The programme runs two years, carries six subjects, three core components and an internal assessment in every subject, and the support a candidate needs is not evenly distributed across those twenty-four months. Families who budget by the hour either overspend in DP1 on subjects that were never the problem, or arrive in the spring of DP2 with no money left for the one thing that would have moved a grade.

Delivery first, because it changes the arithmetic. IB Gram provides tuition to Umm Al Quwain as one-to-one lessons over live video. There are no home visits in the UAE; that is a service offered only in India. For a cost page this matters directly: published market data puts in-home one-to-one visits well above online rates, and the gap exists because somebody is paying for a drive. In this emirate that drive is longer than in Dubai, so the premium is larger, not smaller.

The second thing driving the number here is scarcity of a different kind. Almost every Diploma candidate living in Umm Al Quwain is enrolled in Sharjah, Ajman or Ras Al Khaimah and gets home late. That compresses demand into a narrow evening band, and a narrow band is where availability pressure sits. The families who pay least for the same quality are the ones flexible enough to use a weekend morning for the long session, because that is when specialists are actually free.

Then there is what money cannot buy. Of the 45 points available, a meaningful share is already decided before any examination begins, because internal assessment marks are set inside the school year and moderated afterwards. Tutoring can genuinely move the components that reward technique: timed paper performance, command-term discipline, calculator method, structured evaluation. It cannot move a student who is not working between sessions, and it must never move a word of the student's own assessed writing.

So the figures on this page are organised by phase. What DP1 subject support costs, what the internal assessment block costs, what Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge supervision costs, what a final-stretch intensive costs, and the costs that appear after the papers are over: remarks, retakes, private-candidate entries. All bands are the market's own published numbers with the publisher named, because three of the six competitor pages examined for this market publish no price at all and the two that do quote in US dollars.

If you read nothing else, read the section on what changes the number in this emirate specifically. The same subject, the same level and the same tutor can be quoted two different figures depending on format, session length and which evening you insist on, and those variables are under your control in a way that the hourly rate is not.

At a glance

  • Diploma support is unevenly distributed across two years; budget by phase
  • In-home rates in the northern emirates absorb a long approach drive
  • The 18:30 to 20:00 weekday band is the most contested and the least flexible
  • Internal assessment marks are set inside the school year, not on exam day
  • Remarks, retakes and private-candidate entries are real costs nobody quotes
  • Every figure here is a published market band, not an IB Gram price list
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

The Diploma is one qualification but four cost centres, and the Middle Years Programme sits in front of it as a fifth. Each has a different price profile because each is examined differently, and knowing which one your child is actually in decides where the money should go.

DP1Ages 16-17 · Year 12

Diploma Programme, first year

The first year sets the foundations and chooses the levels. Subject content arrives quickly, Higher Level courses pull ahead of Standard Level, and the students who struggle are usually those who arrived from a different assessment model. Support here is cheap per unit of effect because habits are still forming and there is time for them to settle.

Candidates from Umm Al Quwain are typically in their first term at a school in another emirate, so DP1 is also the year the commute and the workload collide for the first time. Families here often discover in November that a 19:00 weekday session is the only slot that exists, and planning for that early is cheaper than fixing it in DP2.

DP2Ages 17-19 · Year 13

Diploma Programme, second year

The second year is dominated by deadlines rather than content: internal assessments due, the Extended Essay finished, mock examinations, then the May session. Hourly support costs the same but buys less, because the constraint has shifted from understanding to time. This is the phase where families who budgeted evenly run short.

Diploma coordinators in Sharjah, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah set their own internal deadlines, and those dates are tighter than anything the board publishes. A DP2 plan built from the coordinator's deadline sheet costs less than one built from a generic calendar, because nothing is paid for twice.

COREAcross both Diploma years

Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS

The Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge together contribute up to three points to the Diploma total. Both are assessed on the student's own argument, so support is supervision rather than teaching: question the claim, name the criterion, send the student back to write. Creativity, activity, service is a requirement rather than a graded component.

Three points is the difference between an offer and a near miss at many universities, which makes core supervision unusually good value per hour. It is also the area where this market contains providers selling finished essays, and a family in this emirate buying one is buying a malpractice finding against their own child.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme, the run-up

MYP subjects are assessed against criteria A to D on an eight-point scale rather than as percentages. Students arriving into the Diploma from MYP 5 are used to criterion-referenced feedback, which helps with internal assessment and hinders with timed papers, where the skill is speed under a markscheme.

The MYP schools within reach of this emirate sit mainly in Sharjah and Ajman. Spending modestly in MYP 4 and 5 on timed-paper technique is consistently cheaper than spending heavily in DP1 to repair it, and it is the single most under-bought item on any family budget here.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Rate bands vary more by component than by subject name. These are the Diploma subjects most requested from this emirate, with the part of the assessment that drives both the difficulty and the price of the hour.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The calculator-free paper is the expensive part, because it rewards written argument rather than answers. Higher Level adds an extra paper of extended problem-solving, which is why AA HL sits at the top of the rate band for maths almost everywhere in this market.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Technology use, statistics and modelling dominate, and the recurring loss is the answer with no interpretation attached. Rates sit slightly below Analysis at the same level, largely because the specialist pool is wider rather than because the course is easier.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic mechanisms and energetics carry the heaviest technique load, and the scientific investigation is a fixed share of the grade finished long before the papers. Supervision of that investigation is usually billed as a separate block rather than as weekly teaching.

Physics

HL and SL

Uncertainty handling and graph work cost more marks than the content does, and both are drill-responsive. A short, cheap block of focused graph practice often outperforms a long run of general revision, which is a genuine cost argument rather than a teaching preference.

Biology

HL and SL

Extended-response marks are allocated against specific points, so answer planning is worth more per hour than additional content. Students who know the material and still score 4s are usually buying the wrong hours entirely.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and evaluation separate the grades, and Higher Level adds quantitative items. Both are teachable in fewer hours than most families expect, which makes Economics one of the better-value subjects to fund partially rather than continuously.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The individual oral and Paper 1 both reward close textual evidence under time pressure. Rates are moderate, but the number of hours needed is less predictable than in the sciences because progress depends heavily on independent reading.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study questions require use of the stimulus material, and answers that could have been written without reading the case lose marks. A small number of targeted sessions on stimulus use is frequently the cheapest available grade movement in the whole subject list.

Computer Science

HL and SL

Pseudocode precision and tracing carry heavy weight, and the internal solution develops across months. Specialist availability is thin across the UAE, which pushes the rate band up for reasons of supply rather than difficulty.

Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge supervision

Core

Up to three Diploma points for a component most families fund last. Priced as supervision rather than teaching: criterion-referenced questioning on the student's own argument, with the student writing every sentence. Per point available, it is the cheapest thing on this page.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Format is the single biggest lever a family here actually controls over total spend. The three below cost different amounts per hour and, more importantly, buy different amounts of progress per hour, which is the number that decides whether a plan was good value.

Weekly one-to-one, 60 minutes

The default across DP1. One subject, one component, one target, with a marked piece of work produced or reviewed every week. At market rates for a specialist this is the most predictable line in the budget and the easiest to stop, which is exactly why it suits the year when you are still finding out what the real problem is.

  • Predictable monthly cost across a term
  • Easy to pause when the target has been met
  • Fits a weekday evening even after the southbound run

Weekend long session, 90 to 120 minutes

Usually the cheapest progress per dirham in this emirate, because it is the only format in which a complete timed paper can be sat and marked in one go, and because weekend mornings sit outside the contested evening band so specialist availability is better. For Falaj Al Mualla and Al Riqqa families it tends to become the main session.

  • The only realistic format for a full timed paper
  • Better specialist availability than a weekday evening slot
  • Used for internal assessment work where thinking is continuous

Fixed block for a core component

A defined number of sessions attached to one deliverable: an internal assessment through to submission, or Extended Essay supervision across a term. Bought as a block rather than as an open weekly commitment, which makes it the easiest part of the Diploma budget to control and the part most families underspend on.

  • Scoped to one deliverable with a finish line
  • Covers the components carrying up to three core points
  • Supervision and criterion-referenced feedback, never authorship

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Umm Al Quwain

01

What an IB diploma tutor costs in Umm Al Quwain, answered directly

Published market rates in the UAE put a qualified subject tutor working online at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, an IB, IGCSE or A-Level specialist at AED 200 to 450 and above, and in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to 500 once travel is absorbed. Premium examiner-experienced tutors are quoted higher still: BartyED publishes AED 650. At the bottom, budget online tutoring from around AED 45 to 65 exists, and at Diploma Higher Level that generally buys homework supervision rather than component teaching.

Those are the market's figures with the publishers named. IB Gram does not publish a Diploma price list on this page, for a reason that is about honesty rather than evasion: the number depends on the subject, the level, whether a core component is involved and how many weeks remain. A family starting AA HL support in September of DP1 and a family starting Chemistry HL investigation supervision in January of DP2 are buying different products. The free trial session and the consultation are where our own figure is given.

For a sense of scale, published monthly patterns in this market run around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions, and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support.

Three of the six competitor pages examined for this market publish no price at all, and one of them asks the price question in its own FAQ and then declines to answer it. The two that do publish quote in US dollars. Nothing on this page is quoted in a currency a UAE family does not transact in, and every band carries the name of whoever published it.

The two-year budget, phase by phase

The useful way to plan a Diploma budget is to divide the twenty-four months into five phases and decide in advance which ones you are funding. Families who spread spending evenly almost always get this wrong, because the need is lumpy and the expensive phase is at the end.

Phase one, the first term of DP1, is diagnostic and cheap. One subject, a handful of sessions, enough to find out whether the problem is content, technique or workload management. Phase two, the rest of DP1, is habit-building: weekly support on one or two subjects at most, with the explicit aim of becoming unnecessary. A student who can mark their own work against a markscheme by the summer of DP1 has saved their family more money than any discount.

Phase three is the internal assessment block, usually spread across the DP1 summer and the first term of DP2. This is bought as a scoped block per subject, not as open-ended weekly support, because each investigation or exploration has a submission date. Phase four is core supervision for the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge, also scoped. Phase five is the final stretch: the weeks between mock examinations and the May session, when hourly support costs the same and buys the least, because the constraint has become time rather than understanding.

The arithmetic families get wrong is phase five. Twelve weeks of three-subject weekly support in the spring of DP2 is a large number at specialist rates, and it is the worst-value money in the whole programme. The same amount spent in phases one to four, where there was still time for a habit to form, would have moved more. If your budget is finite, protect the early phases and the core block, and treat the final stretch as a top-up rather than the main event.

03

What actually changes the number in this emirate

  • Format is the biggest lever: online removes the travel component rather than discounting it
  • The 18:30 to 20:00 weekday band is the most contested and attracts the least choice
  • A tightly scoped sixty-minute session beats a vague ninety-minute one on both counts
  • Higher Level specialist supply, not difficulty, sets the top of the rate band
  • Arrange the final-stretch block early even if the sessions start later

Four variables move a Diploma tutoring quote in Umm Al Quwain, and three of them are under the family's control. Understanding which is which is worth more than negotiating on the rate.

The first is format, and it is the largest. In-home visiting rates in the published data sit above online rates, and the gap is travel. In Dubai a tutor's approach drive might be fifteen minutes. To Falaj Al Mualla or Al Riqqa it is considerably longer, and the hour absorbs it whether the invoice says so or not. Choosing live video removes that line item entirely rather than discounting it.

The second is the slot. Because almost every Diploma candidate here is schooled in another emirate and home late, demand concentrates into roughly ninety minutes of weekday evening. That is the most contested band in the week, and contested bands do not attract the specialist with options. A family willing to use a weekend morning for the long session, or a 17:30 start if the commute allows it, gets better availability at the same rate. This is the single cheapest change most families here could make.

The third is session length and scope. A sixty-minute session with one named target produces more measurable movement than a ninety-minute session with a vague brief, and costs less. The fourth variable is the one you do not control: the specialist pool for a given Higher Level component across the UAE. Computer Science HL and Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL sit near the top of the rate band in this market for reasons of supply, not because the hour contains more teaching.

There is also a calendar effect. Rates in this market firm up as a session approaches and availability thins, which is a reason to arrange the final-stretch support early even if the sessions themselves start later. Ramadan shifts the whole evening pattern and the shortened school day changes when a student is actually able to concentrate, so the timetable is renegotiated rather than assumed.

04

Which of the 45 points money can actually move

A Diploma total is built from six subject grades of 1 to 7, plus up to three points from the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge combination. Not all of those marks respond equally to paid support, and a family budgeting sensibly needs to know which ones do.

The most responsive are the technique components: timed paper performance, command-term discipline, calculator method, graph and data work, structured evaluation in essay subjects. These are procedural, they are visible on a marked script, and they move within weeks when drilled. A student who understands the content and keeps scoring in the middle of the range is almost always losing marks here, and this is the cheapest movement available anywhere in the programme.

Next are the internal assessments, which respond well to supervision but not to purchase. A tutor can question the method, name the criterion, identify what the descriptor asks for that is missing, and send the student back to write. That is both legitimate and effective. What is neither is any arrangement in which the words on the page are not the candidate's own, and one provider in this market sells exactly that at around AED 3,750 a piece. A family buying it is buying a malpractice finding against their own child, with the whole Diploma at risk rather than one subject grade.

Least responsive is content a student has not studied, in a subject they are not working at between sessions. A weekly hour cannot carry a knowledge gap across a two-year syllabus. When a marked script shows losses that are mostly straight content, the honest answer is that the constraint is study time at home, and that buying more sessions will not touch it.

05

Supervision of the internal assessment and the core, and where it stops

This is the part of the budget with the best return and the worst reputation, because this market contains providers who sell finished work. The distinction is authorship, and it is not a grey area.

The student chooses the question, does the research, designs the method, writes the draft and types every sentence. The supervisor asks questions and points at criteria. Which criterion is this section trying to satisfy. The method describes what was done but not why it was chosen, and the descriptor asks for justification. Where is the uncertainty treated. That style of comment is effective precisely because the student has to write the improvement, which is also the only version that leaves them better at the subject.

A tutor who returns a draft containing rewritten paragraphs has crossed the line regardless of what the accompanying note says. So has anyone offering to supply a finished investigation, essay or exploration at any price. Under IB rules this is a malpractice exposure for the candidate, and the consequence falls on the student rather than on the seller.

What makes this auditable rather than assertable is dating. Every draft is logged with a submission date and a feedback date, and the family keeps copies. If a coordinator ever asks how a piece of work developed, that sequence answers the question. Scoped as a block of a defined number of sessions against one submission date, core and internal assessment supervision is the most cost-effective line on a Diploma budget, because up to three points sit in the core alone and most families fund it last or not at all.

One related caution on materials. Published syllabus documents, past papers, markschemes and grade-boundary tables belong to the boards. They are referenced and linked from the official sites, never reproduced or supplied as downloads, and a provider who hands over a bundle of board material is telling you something about their compliance generally.

06

The costs nobody quotes until the papers are over

  • Exam-day travel to a centre in another emirate, across several weeks
  • Enquiries upon results, remarks and retake entry fees, all set by the board
  • A retake means a second preparation period as well as a second entry fee
  • Private-candidate entries arranged through a centre that accepts them
  • Calculator model changes, admissions tests and application fees in the same window

A Diploma budget built only from tutoring hours is incomplete, and the missing items tend to appear at the worst possible moment. None of them are large individually; together they are a meaningful line.

Start with examination logistics. A candidate living in Umm Al Quwain and schooled in Sharjah, Ajman or Ras Al Khaimah sits papers at a centre in that other emirate, on mornings fixed months earlier. That is a series of long early drives across several weeks, and in a household with one car it is a scheduling problem as much as a cost. For Cambridge entries at IGCSE level the zone point matters too: Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, states that using the correct zone timetable is essential, and will not accept responsibility for a candidate who misses an examination after working from the wrong version.

Then the post-results items. Enquiries upon results, remarks and retake entries all carry board fees, and a retake also means a second preparation period with its own tutoring cost. Private-candidate entries, where a student sits a subject their school does not offer, carry entry fees paid directly and have to be arranged through a centre that accepts private candidates, which in this emirate usually means a centre in Sharjah or Ajman.

Smaller items add up. The correct graphical calculator model, replaced or upgraded if the school changes its requirement. University application fees and admissions tests, which arrive in the same months as the heaviest tutoring spend. The Ministry equivalency process for using the qualification inside the UAE, which is a Ministry matter rather than something a tutoring service performs or guarantees. Put all of it in one spreadsheet in DP1, because discovering it in April of DP2 is what pushes families into cutting the support that was working.

07

Tutoring cost in context: fees, support and what a point is worth

A tutoring figure feels large in isolation and reasonable in context, and families make better decisions with the context in front of them. The anchor is school fees, which in Dubai have been held: KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total.

That matters to an Umm Al Quwain family mainly as a reference point, since their school is often regulated elsewhere, but the scale comparison holds everywhere. Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula, with the International Baccalaureate accounting for 7 per cent of enrolment against 37 per cent for UK curricula. Against an annual fee bill at an international school, a scoped core-supervision block is a small fraction, and it attaches to up to three Diploma points.

The way to read the table below is per unit of outcome rather than per hour. Weekly support on one subject across a term is a predictable, modest line. Three subjects weekly through the whole of DP2 is a different order of commitment and is usually a sign the planning went wrong earlier. The core block is the smallest line with the clearest attachment to points.

There is also the counterfactual. A Diploma retake costs a second entry, a second preparation period and, often, a deferred university place. Spending in phases one to four to avoid that is cheaper than the alternative, and that is the only sense in which tutoring spending can honestly be described as saving money.

Permits, VAT and what a free trial has to mean

Three consumer questions sit underneath every tutoring quote in this country, and all three have clear answers.

On permits: private tutoring in the UAE is regulated. The private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is issued through MoHRE, and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so no amount appears here. A permit is free, which means a tutor who cites permit costs as a reason for a higher rate is telling you something useful.

There is also a professional-conduct point that affects who you can legitimately hire. Press reporting on Abu Dhabi indicates that ADEK's professional-ethics rules prohibit private and charter school staff from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and that the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Hiring your child's own classroom teacher privately is therefore not the shortcut it appears to be, and this should be checked against the current policy document rather than treated as settled wording.

On VAT: the UAE tax treatment of tuition fees is not something this page states as fact, because doing so would need a Federal Tax Authority citation. What a family should do instead is ask any provider a direct question: is the figure you have quoted inclusive of VAT, and do you hold a tax registration number. A provider who cannot answer that plainly has told you what you need to know.

On free trials: a trial is only free if the condition is on the same screen as the word. Length, eligibility and whether card details are required, stated up front. Our trial is a working session that produces a piece of marked work or a scoped plan, with no card required to book it, and the figure for ongoing sessions is given afterwards rather than before, because before the session nobody knows honestly what the plan should be.

09

When to spend, and when to stop

The last section of a cost page should say when to close the wallet, because every provider has an incentive not to.

Spend early. Phases one to four carry the value, and they are the phases families underfund because the pressure is not visible yet. A diagnostic block in the first term of DP1 and a scoped core block in DP2 together cost less than six weeks of three-subject panic in the spring, and they move more.

Stop when the evidence stops moving. Six weeks of flat results on the specific question types a plan named is not a reason to buy more hours; it is a reason to change the diagnosis or the tutor. Stop also when a student has become able to mark their own work against a markscheme and plan their own revision. That is the point of the exercise, and continuing past it converts a tutor into a comfort purchase.

Do not spend against a narrow slot you cannot fill. If the only time your family can manage is the single most contested hour of the week, and the specialist you need is not free in it, the cheapest honest answer is to move the time rather than to accept whoever is available. Coverage is not unlimited, and a narrow Higher Level combination in one fixed slot sometimes has no match that week. You will be told that, with a different time, an adjacent specialist or a date, rather than being sold a generalist described as a specialist.

Finally, spend on the thing you can audit. An hour that returns a marked script with the markscheme reference attached is worth more at any rate than two hours of unrecorded company, and the question that separates the two is the same one every time: what will this session produce in writing, and do we keep it.

Where we tutor

What your address in Umm Al Quwain does to the quote

Location changes a tutoring cost in two ways: the length of the approach drive a visiting tutor prices in, and how late the student gets home, which decides whether you are bidding for the contested evening band. Both are area-specific here.

Al Salamah

The largest residential concentration and the one with the longest southbound commute for most Diploma candidates. Students home after 17:30 means the family is competing for the same 18:30 to 20:00 slot as everyone else, which is the least flexible and therefore the least negotiable band.

Al Raas

Established housing near the creek, often with two children in two schools. The second child doubles the cost conversation, and the practical saving here is scheduling both on the same evening with different specialists rather than on separate nights.

Al Riqqa

Longer internal drive before the main road, which historically made any in-home quote more expensive and now mainly means weekday evenings are short. The cheapest workable pattern is a weekend long session with one short weekday follow-up.

Umm Al Quwain Marina and the corniche

Newer apartment stock with shorter commutes toward Ajman. A 17:30 weekday start is realistic here, which puts these families outside the contested band and gives them genuine choice of specialist at the lower end of the rate range.

Al Humrah

Closest to the Ajman boundary and the shortest school run in the emirate. The widest evening window of anywhere here, which is why families in this area can usually fund two subjects for what a family in Falaj Al Mualla pays for one contested slot.

Falaj Al Mualla

Inland and roughly forty minutes from the coast. Travel to any tuition centre is impractical on a school night, so the entire comparison is online against nothing. In-home quotes to this area carry the largest travel component in the emirate.

Al Haditha and the old town

Near the older schools and government offices. A number of families here add private IGCSE or Diploma entries separately, and those entry costs sit outside the tutoring budget entirely but belong in the same spreadsheet.

School ecosystem

Sharjah and Ajman: where the deadlines come from

The internal assessment dates that drive DP2 spending are set by these schools, not by the board. A family that gets the coordinator's deadline sheet in September spends less across the year, because every block of support is bought once and bought in time rather than twice and in a hurry.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Ajman Academy
  • Delhi Private School, Sharjah
  • GEMS Westminster School, Sharjah
  • Emirates National School, Sharjah
  • Habitat School Ajman

Ras Al Khaimah: the northern alternative

Families who drive north rather than south usually do so for Diploma continuity or a specific subject combination. Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge regulates private education there and approves fees, curricula, programmes and assessment methods, so the published documentation differs from the Ministry-supervised position inside Umm Al Quwain.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say which phase you are in

DP1 diagnostic, DP1 habit building, internal assessment block, core supervision or final stretch. The phase decides the format, the scope and the realistic cost more than the subject does, and naming it in the enquiry removes a whole round of questions before anyone is matched.

  2. 02

    Send the coordinator's deadline sheet

The dates that drive Diploma spending are set by the school, not the board. With the internal deadlines in front of us the support can be bought once and in time, rather than twice and in a hurry. For families schooled in another emirate this single document saves more money than any rate negotiation.

  3. 03

Take the trial before discussing a figure

A working session over live video that produces a marked piece of work or a scoped plan. No card details to book it. Our own rate is quoted afterwards, because the honest number depends on the component, the level and how many weeks are left, and quoting it beforehand would be a guess dressed as a price.

  4. 04

Scope the block, and name the finish line

For internal assessment and core work, agree a defined number of sessions against one submission date. For weekly subject support, agree the target question types and the review date. A block with a finish line is the part of a Diploma budget that does not quietly expand across two years.

  5. 05

Review at six weeks and decide

Three honest outcomes: continue because the targeted marks moved, change the tutor or the targets because they did not, or stop because the student now works independently. The review is a decision point with evidence on the table, which is what stops a tutoring arrangement becoming a standing order.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Every figure carries its source

The dirham bands on this page are published market rates with the publisher named, not an invented price list and not a competitor's number repeated as ours. Where our own cost is concerned the answer is the trial session and the consultation, because the real number depends on the component and the weeks remaining.

No travel inside the hour

Lessons are one-to-one over live video. In-home rates in the published data sit above online rates because somebody pays for the drive, and to this emirate that drive is long. Removing the format removes the line item rather than discounting it, and widens the specialist pool at the same time.

Priced by phase, not by a flat rate

A diagnostic block in DP1, a scoped internal assessment block, a core supervision block and a tightly limited final stretch. Families who buy in that order spend less and move more than families who buy an even weekly commitment for two years and then run short in April.

Core supervision treated as the best value, not the afterthought

Up to three Diploma points sit in the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge combination, and most families fund it last. Scoped supervision against the criteria, with the student writing every sentence, is the cheapest point movement on the whole programme.

Authorship boundaries stated, not implied

The student writes every sentence of assessed work, drafts are dated, and no replacement text is ever supplied. One provider in this market sells finished internal assessments outright. Naming that boundary in writing is both the rule and a genuine difference in this particular search result.

Coverage limits are disclosed up front

When no specialist is free for a narrow Higher Level combination in a single fixed evening slot, you are told, with an alternative time, an adjacent specialist or a date. Paying a specialist rate for a generalist is the most expensive mistake available in this market.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Umm Al Quwain: your questions answered

What does a full two-year IB Diploma tutoring plan cost from Umm Al Quwain?+

There is no single figure, and any provider offering one before seeing the student is guessing. What can be given is the shape. Published market bands put an IB specialist at roughly AED 200 to 450 an hour and above, with monthly patterns in this market around AED 799 for eight online sessions. A sensible two-year plan is not weekly support for twenty-four months; it is a diagnostic block in DP1, one or two subjects weekly while habits form, a scoped internal assessment block per subject, a core supervision block, and a limited final stretch. Budget by phase and the total is far smaller.

Is it cheaper to buy Diploma support in DP1 or wait until DP2?+

DP1, decisively. The hourly rate is the same but the value is not. In DP1 there is time for a habit to form, so a procedural fix such as writing method steps or planning extended responses pays off across eighteen months of assessment. In the spring of DP2 the constraint has shifted from understanding to available time, and the same hour buys triage rather than teaching. Families who spread spending evenly across two years consistently find themselves funding the least efficient phase most heavily, and cutting something that was working in order to afford it.

How many of the 45 points can money realistically move?+

Honestly, nobody can put a number on it, and anyone who does is making a claim they cannot support. What can be said is which components respond. Technique components move fastest: timed paper method, command-term discipline, calculator and graph work, structured evaluation. Internal assessments respond to supervision, never to purchase. Up to three points sit in the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge combination and respond well to criterion-referenced questioning. Unstudied syllabus content in a subject with no work happening between sessions barely responds at all, because the missing resource is study time rather than teaching.

What does internal assessment supervision add to the bill?+

It is best bought as a scoped block rather than as open weekly support: a defined number of sessions against one submission date, per subject. Scoped that way it is a modest, predictable line and one of the better-value items on a Diploma budget, because internal assessment marks are a fixed share of the grade and are settled inside the school year. Left until the coordinator's deadline is three weeks away, the same work costs more and achieves less, because the sessions become rescue rather than development. Get the deadline sheet in September and book the block against it.

Why is a Diploma hour priced above an IGCSE hour?+

Partly content and partly supply. Diploma Higher Level courses go deeper and carry components such as an extra paper of extended problem-solving, so the tutor pool capable of teaching them is smaller. Unitors, for example, publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200, which reflects that difference in the market rather than a view about difficulty. Supply pressure is sharpest in a few subjects: Computer Science HL and Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL sit near the top of the band across the UAE because few specialists are available, not because the hour contains more teaching.

Does an IB Diploma tutor here come to the house, and what would that add?+

Not through IB Gram. There are no home visits in the UAE; it is a service offered only in India, and tuition to every emirate is delivered one-to-one over live video. On the market generally, published data puts in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, and the difference is the drive. To Falaj Al Mualla or Al Riqqa that approach is long, so the premium is larger here than in Dubai. Choosing live video removes the component rather than negotiating it down.

What does the evening slot scarcity in this emirate do to the rate?+

It does not raise the published rate so much as reduce the choice available at it. Almost every Diploma candidate living here is schooled in Sharjah, Ajman or Ras Al Khaimah and gets home late, so demand concentrates into roughly ninety minutes of weekday evening. That band is contested, and the specialists with options are often booked in it. Families flexible enough to take a weekend morning for the long session, or a 17:30 start where the commute allows, get better availability for the same money. It is the cheapest change most households here could make.

Are Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay worth paying a tutor for?+

Per point available, they are the best value on the programme and the item most families fund last. The two together contribute up to three points to the Diploma total, which is frequently the gap between an offer and a near miss. Support is supervision rather than teaching: questioning the claim, naming the criterion, identifying what the descriptor asks for that is missing, and sending the student back to write it themselves. Scoped as a block across DP2 it is a small line. What it must never be is anyone other than the candidate producing the words on the page.

What are the costs nobody quotes until results day?+

Board fees for enquiries upon results, remarks and retake entries, none of which appear in a tutoring quote. A retake also means a second preparation period with its own cost. Private-candidate entries, where a student sits a subject the school does not offer, carry entry fees and have to be arranged through a centre that accepts private candidates, which from here usually means Sharjah or Ajman. Add exam-day travel to a centre in another emirate across several weeks, a calculator model change if the school requires one, and university admissions test and application fees landing in the same months.

How does a year of weekly Diploma support compare with school fees?+

For most families at an international school, a year of weekly support on one subject is a modest fraction of the annual fee bill, and a scoped core block is smaller still. The scale context is worth having: Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25 across seventeen curricula, and KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no fee increase for Dubai private schools in 2026-27. Where the comparison breaks down is three subjects weekly through the whole of DP2, which is a different order of commitment and usually a symptom of earlier underspending.

Should we buy a block of sessions or pay week by week?+

It depends on what the sessions are for. Internal assessment and core work should be bought as a block, because the work has a submission date and a finish line, and a block with a scope does not quietly expand. Weekly subject support is better paid as you go, because the aim is to become unnecessary and a prepaid term removes the incentive to notice when that has happened. If you do buy a block in this emirate, ask what happens to unused sessions when the school moves its mock window, since the school calendar belongs to another emirate entirely.

Does a higher hourly rate buy a better Diploma grade?+

Not reliably, and nobody can promise a grade at any price. What a higher rate usually buys is narrower specialism: somebody who works on that exact component at that exact level, rather than a generalist covering four subjects. For Higher Level work and for internal assessment supervision that specialism matters, and the cheapest tiers, from around AED 45 to 65, generally buy homework company instead. The useful test is not the rate but the output: what will the first session produce in writing, which markscheme was applied, and do we keep the script.

Is VAT included in the figures quoted on tutoring sites?+

Often unstated, and this page will not assert the UAE tax treatment of tuition fees as fact, because doing so would require a Federal Tax Authority citation. The practical move is to ask the provider two direct questions before paying: is this figure inclusive of VAT, and do you hold a tax registration number. The market bands quoted on this page are published rates from the sources named and should be treated as indicative rather than as final invoices. A provider who cannot answer either question plainly has given you useful information about their operation.

What has to be true before a trial session counts as free?+

The conditions have to appear next to the word. How long the session is, who is eligible, whether card details are required to book, and what happens if you do not continue. A trial advertised as free with a card requirement buried a page away is not free in the sense a parent reads it. Ours is a working session over live video, booked without card details, which produces a marked piece of work or a scoped plan. The figure for ongoing sessions is given after it rather than before, because beforehand nobody honestly knows what the plan should be.

How many subjects should we fund at once in the Diploma?+

One or two, almost always. Three weekly subjects is a budget shape that signals the diagnosis was never done: in most cases one subject is genuinely weak, one is a technique problem that is cheap to fix, and the others are suffering from time pressure created by the first two. Funding all of them at specialist rates spreads the money thin and leaves nothing for the internal assessment and core blocks, which carry better value. Fix the technique problem first, since it is fast and visible, then reassess what is actually left.

At what point in DP2 does extra spending stop helping?+

Once the constraint becomes available time rather than understanding, which for most candidates is somewhere after the mock examinations. From that point an additional hour competes with revision the student needs to do alone, and adding a third or fourth subject to the plan reliably makes the whole thing worse. The final stretch is best kept to two subjects, tightly scoped to timed-paper technique on the question types a marked script has identified. Spending heavily here to compensate for a thin DP1 is the most expensive pattern in the programme and the least effective.

Budget the Diploma once, in September

The families in this emirate who spend least across two years are not the ones who negotiated hardest on an hourly rate. They are the ones who sat down in the first term of DP1 with the coordinator's deadline sheet, decided which phases they were funding, protected the core block, and kept the final stretch to two subjects. Book a free trial session, send the last marked piece of work and the school's internal deadlines, and you will get a plan with phases and a finish line rather than an open weekly commitment. Lessons run one-to-one over live video, timed around the school run.
