IB Home Tutor in Kalba

Searching for an IB home tutor in Kalba runs into geography almost immediately. This is Sharjah's east-coast exclave on the Gulf of Oman, a long drive from the emirate's main city, and the number of people nearby who have taught a specific Diploma subject to final-grade standard is very small. So this page is about subject depth rather than proximity: what each course assesses, what changes between higher and standard level, and how a family here reaches a specialist over live video.

  • Matched to the subject and level, with no distance limit
  • Higher and standard level differences set out explicitly
  • Criterion feedback on assessed work, never written by the tutor
  • One-to-one over live video; no home visits anywhere in the UAE

IB & IGCSE in Kalba

Subject depth, when the nearest specialist is a long way off

Kalba sits on the Gulf of Oman, part of Sharjah but separated from the emirate's main urban area by the Hajar mountains and a drive that no tutor is making twice a week. Khor Fakkan is close; Fujairah city is close; Sharjah city is not. Families here know this better than anybody, which is why the practical question is not who is nearby but how to reach somebody who genuinely knows the course.

The IB makes that question sharper than most curricula would. A Diploma subject at higher level is a different teaching job from the same subject at standard level, and both are different from the Middle Years version. The internal assessment in each subject is marked against criteria by letter with published descriptors. Theory of Knowledge and the extended essay have their own demands again. The expertise required is specific, and specific expertise is thinly spread even in a city.

What that means for an east-coast family is straightforward. Local in-home tutoring, if it is available at all, will be general: somebody who can supervise homework and cover content across several year groups. That has value for a younger child. It does not help a DP2 student whose chemistry investigation is failing on its research design, or whose higher level mathematics paper is losing method marks.

Online delivery changes the arithmetic completely. Over live video, the pool is national: a tutor who has taught higher level chemistry for years and supervised dozens of investigations is as reachable from Kalba as from Al Majaz. Scheduling is in Gulf Standard Time, the session starts when the student is at the desk, and nobody is driving over the mountains. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE - that service exists only in India - so we are describing what we actually do rather than a fallback.

This page is therefore written as subject content. It sets out what changes between higher and standard level, where marks go in the sciences, how the two mathematics routes differ and why the choice has consequences at university application, what the language subjects demand alongside the mandatory UAE subjects every private school must teach, and what can and cannot be supported remotely in assessed work.

There is a cost point that follows from the geography and is worth stating early. Published UAE rate cards put a qualified subject tutor teaching online at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour and an in-home visit at AED 180 to 500 once travel is absorbed. On this coast, an in-home specialist would be priced at the very top of that range if one existed, so the online route is both the cheaper and the only genuinely available option for course-specific work.

It also covers the east-coast practicalities: which regulator applies, what school options families here actually use, and how examination arrangements work when the centre is not around the corner.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three IB stages, with the east-coast consideration attached to each: what is realistically available locally and what has to come from further afield.

PYPAges 3-12

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led with no external examinations, so expertise matters less than consistency. Reading fluency, number facts and writing an answer that addresses the question are the three things worth paying for, in short sessions that stop when the gap closes.

For a family on the east coast, this is the stage where a local arrangement is most likely to work, because what is needed is presence and routine rather than course-specific knowledge. We are not the right provider if supervision is the actual requirement.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Criterion-assessed with task-specific descriptors. In the sciences the criteria cover knowing and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on impacts - and diligent students routinely under-answer the last two because school tasks often reward the first two most visibly.

Reading the descriptors with a student before a task is the highest-value hour at this stage and needs no local presence at all. It works perfectly over video, which makes the Middle Years the easiest stage to support well from a distance.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2

Diploma Programme

Six subjects at higher or standard level, internal assessments marked against published criteria and moderated, plus Theory of Knowledge and an extended essay. The level choice shapes two years of workload, and the assessed work cannot be rescued late because deadlines pass.

Diploma provision in this emirate sits in a small number of schools, none of them on the east coast, so a Kalba student on the programme is already travelling or boarding. The tutoring consequence is simple: course-specific help has to come over video, because nobody local has it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each subject below is described by what it assesses and where students lose marks at each level, because the level is half the question when a family asks for a tutor.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms carry the losses, with higher level adding depth rather than breadth. Extended responses are marked for precision: an observation rather than a conclusion, conditions rather than a gesture at them. The investigation lives or dies on its research design.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics and fields, with sign conventions and unstated assumptions causing most avoidable losses in multi-step problems. Higher level extends the mathematics expected. Uncertainty treatment in the investigation is neglected almost universally and is quick to coach.

Biology

HL and SL

Content-heavy at both levels, so command terms and data-based questions decide the grade. Higher level adds detail that rewards retrieval practice rather than rereading. Statistical treatment in the investigation is the recurring weak point.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Proof, algebraic technique and calculus. Method must be written and justified rather than implied, which is the biggest adjustment for students arriving from a British-track background. Higher level is a substantial step in both content and pace.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling, statistics and technology use. Not the easy option at higher level, where the statistical content is demanding, and some university routes expect Analysis and Approaches instead - a check worth making before the choice is locked.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams and evaluation earn the marks, with higher level adding quantitative work that surprises students who chose the subject expecting essays. The commentaries need one syllabus section applied tightly to one current article.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Unseen analysis and the individual oral, with higher level adding an essay that needs a text chosen early enough to reread. Orals fail when the global issue is too broad to anchor in two extracts.

English B and language acquisition

HL and SL

Taken by many students for whom English is the language of instruction but not the home language. Productive skills are coachable to a formula - register, text type conventions, matching the task to its audience - and listening practice is routinely skipped.

Theory of Knowledge and the extended essay

Core components

Scheduled by the school, with internal deadlines well before anything the IB sees, and neither sets weekly homework - which is precisely why both slip. Coaching is sequence, question choice and criteria; the student writes every word.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of working that suit a family at this distance. All are one-to-one over live video and all begin with a free trial lesson at no cost.

Weekly subject teaching at the right level

A fixed slot with a tutor who has taught the subject at your child's level, working from the subject guide the school issues. For an east-coast family this is the only route to genuine course expertise, and it costs nothing in travel at either end.

  • Matched to subject and level, not year group
  • Works from the school's own subject guide
  • Written target list for the next six sessions

Criterion coaching for assessed work

Descriptors read together in the first session, the research question narrowed until the available data can answer it, method and uncertainty planned before writing, then drafts read against the criteria. The tutor explains and questions; the student writes every word.

  • Criteria read at the start, not after a draft
  • Planning before writing, which is where marks are won
  • Feedback by criterion letter, never editing

Level-decision sessions

Two or three sessions attempting genuine higher level material before a choice is locked, so the decision rests on marked scripts rather than on enthusiasm. Particularly valuable where a school's advice is based on a small cohort.

  • Real HL questions attempted and marked
  • A written view with the scripts attached
  • Degree prerequisites checked before deciding

01

Higher level against standard level, subject by subject

Parents are told that higher level means more content, which is true and incomplete. The differences that matter are in what the papers demand, how the workload distributes across two years, and which university routes expect which level.

Content is the obvious one: higher level covers additional topics and treats shared topics in more depth. Less obvious is the pace. A higher level subject consumes more of the week all year, which compounds across three of them and determines whether a student has time for the extended essay and internal assessments at all. A family choosing three higher levels is choosing a timetable, not just a set of subjects.

The assessment profile shifts too. Papers at higher level ask questions that combine topics rather than testing them in isolation, which rewards students who can see structure and punishes memorisation. The internal assessment is typically the same task at both levels, which means it is proportionally a bigger lever for a standard level student and a smaller one for a higher level student with more paper marks in play.

Then there are prerequisites. Some degree routes in engineering, mathematics, medicine and the physical sciences expect specific subjects at higher level, and the requirement is published by the university rather than negotiable later. The time to read those pages is before the choice, which for most students means during the pre-DP year. The table below sets out the comparison we work through with families.

02

The sciences: content, traps and what a tutor should do first

  • Chemistry: energetics, equilibrium, organic conditions, and precise wording
  • Physics: sign conventions, unstated assumptions, uncertainty treatment
  • Biology: command terms, data questions, statistical choice in the investigation
  • All three: a research design that was never controlled cannot be written out of trouble

IB sciences lose marks in predictable places, and a tutor who names them in the first session is worth more than one who spends a month discovering them. This is the diagnosis an east-coast family cannot get locally and can get in a free trial lesson over video.

In chemistry the recurring three are energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms, with the additional problem that extended responses are marked for precision. A student who knows why a reaction is exothermic can still lose marks describing it loosely. The investigation adds a separate failure mode: a research design with variables that were never controlled cannot be rescued by good writing months later.

In physics, multi-step problems and fields dominate. Sign conventions cause more lost marks than conceptual misunderstanding, and unstated assumptions cost method marks that were available. In the investigation, uncertainty treatment is the criterion most often underdone - students collect data, process it, and then say nothing useful about how confident anyone should be in the result.

In biology, content is memorisable and marks still go on command terms and data questions. Students who revise by rereading plateau; students who answer past data questions under timing and check against the mark scheme improve. Statistical treatment in the investigation is the equivalent weak point to uncertainty in physics: tests chosen because they are familiar rather than because they answer the question asked.

A tutor's first session in any of the three should end with a written list of topics and question types, not with an impression. If it ends with encouragement instead, you have bought company rather than diagnosis, and that is worth noticing in week one rather than in March.

03

The two mathematics routes, and why the choice outlasts the Diploma

Mathematics in the Diploma is two subjects, not one, and the difference is the single most consequential choice a student makes in the pre-DP year. Analysis and Approaches is proof, algebra and calculus heavy, with method written out and justified. Applications and Interpretation is modelling, statistics and technology use.

The common error is reputational. Applications and Interpretation is widely described as the lighter route, and at higher level it is not: the statistical content is demanding and unfamiliar to most students arriving from a British-track background. Meanwhile some university routes in engineering, mathematics, physics and economics expect Analysis and Approaches, and a student who took the other course can find a published prerequisite unmet at application time, when nothing can be done about it.

The right method is unglamorous: read the stated requirements of the degree subjects under consideration, then attempt real questions from both courses with somebody who teaches both, then decide from the marked scripts. Two or three sessions is usually enough, and it is a small cost against a two-year commitment with consequences beyond school.

For an east-coast family there is an additional reason to take this seriously. If the local school offers only one of the two routes, or offers one of them thinly, the decision is partly made by provision rather than by fit - and knowing that in advance allows a family to plan support around it rather than discovering the gap in DP2.

04

Languages, and the subjects every private school must teach

  • Language A assesses unseen analysis and a scheduled individual oral
  • English B rewards register, text type and audience - all coachable
  • Listening practice is the most commonly skipped productive-skill work
  • Arabic, Islamic Education and social studies run alongside the IB programme
  • Additional or different content for mandatory subjects needs Ministry permission

Language subjects are where the IB's structure and the UAE's national requirements meet, and families are often surprised by how much of the week they jointly consume.

On the IB side, students take a language A - often English A: Language and Literature - and a second language, frequently English B or another language acquisition course. The first assesses unseen analysis and an individual oral; the second assesses productive skills that are coachable to a formula: register, text type conventions, and matching a task to its stated audience. Listening practice is almost universally skipped and almost always costs marks.

On the national side, private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. Dubai's regulator publishes the most detailed version of these requirements and they are instructive everywhere: Arabic, Islamic Education and social studies are mandatory regardless of the licensed curriculum, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in several of those subjects, and instructional time is calculated in forty-minute lesson units.

The practical consequence for a Kalba household is a full week and a tired evening. Support should be short and specific rather than long and general. Where a student arrived in the UAE mid-school and sits in Arabic as an additional language several years below their year group, that is a legitimate thing to support - and worth noting that content for the mandatory subjects is tightly controlled, so the honest offer is language and study-skill support rather than an alternative syllabus.

05

Supporting assessed work from a distance

A reasonable question from a family a hundred kilometres from the nearest IB school: how much of the internal assessment process can actually be supported by somebody who is not in the room? The answer is most of it, with one clear exception.

The exception is the practical work itself. Laboratory work for a science investigation happens at school, with the school's equipment and under the school's supervision, and no tutor substitutes for that. What a tutor can do is everything around it: question the research question until the available apparatus can actually answer it, identify which variables need controlling and how, and insist on a method that will produce data worth analysing. That conversation happens before the laboratory session and is where most investigation marks are won or lost.

Everything else transfers cleanly to video. Reading the criteria together. Narrowing a question. Teaching the statistics or the uncertainty handling the data needs. Reading a draft and explaining which criterion it fails and why. Rehearsing an individual oral to time with the criteria visible. Planning an extended essay's structure and checking that the research question can be answered in the length available.

What does not transfer, and would not be permitted in person either, is writing. A tutor may not write, draft, rewrite or edit any part of the submitted work, and IB Gram does not sell completed internal assessments, extended essays, Theory of Knowledge essays or coursework. Services that do appear in these search results at prices in the thousands of dirhams, and the malpractice finding attaches to the student's diploma rather than to the seller.

06

East-coast practicalities: regulator, schools and examinations

Three administrative facts are worth having straight, because distance makes informal clarification harder and because families here deal with more than one authority.

First, the regulator. Kalba and Khor Fakkan are part of Sharjah, so private schools there fall under the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education in the emirate and, along with Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge, approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Fujairah's private schools, by contrast, are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education - which matters for any family whose child attends school across that boundary.

Second, school options. There is no IB Diploma provision on this coast, so families travel, board or choose another curriculum. Each of those has tutoring consequences: a boarding student needs support that fits a school timetable rather than a home one, a commuting student has very little weekday capacity, and a student on another curriculum may be preparing for different qualifications entirely.

Third, examinations. Entries are made by the school's centre, not by the family, and where a candidate sits is determined by that centre. For British-track siblings the relevant facts are published and checkable: Cambridge runs June and November series for UAE candidates, with the February/March series offered in India only, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November - the November final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026. For the IB, UAE schools sit the May session; we publish no IB dates because we could not verify them at source, and your coordinator holds the confirmed version.

07

What distance does and does not cost you

It is worth being even-handed about this. Living on the east coast genuinely costs a family some things in education, and the honest list is shorter than people fear.

What it costs: choice of school, informal access to teachers, the convenience of a neighbour's recommendation, and any realistic prospect of an in-home subject specialist. Those are real. A parent in Al Majaz can drop into a department at short notice; a parent in Kalba cannot, which is why asking for things in writing - the internal deadline calendar, the marked script, the department's view on a level - matters more here than anywhere else in the emirate.

What it does not cost: access to teaching. Over live video, the pool of tutors available to a Kalba family is the same as the pool available to a family in Dubai Marina, and the rate carries no travel component. Across published UAE rate cards a qualified subject tutor teaching online runs roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, against AED 180 to 500 for an in-home visit once travel is absorbed - and in-home on this coast would be priced at the very top of that range if anybody offered it at all.

The remaining honest caveat is the one we repeat on every page: for a young child who needs an adult physically present to stay on task, online tutoring is the wrong product and a local arrangement is better. We do not offer UAE home visits, so if that is your situation we are not the right provider, and saying so is more useful than taking the booking.

Limits, stated plainly

Everything on this page assumes a family making a careful decision at a distance, which is exactly the situation in which unclear claims do the most damage. So here are our limits, in one place.

Delivery is one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not run home visits anywhere in the UAE; home tutoring in a family's house is a service we offer only in India. There is no IB Gram office, centre or branch in this country.

No tutor can know what a particular candidate will score, so we offer no grade guarantees, no promised point totals and no refunds tied to results. A tutor may teach, question and give feedback on the student's own work, and may not write or edit any part of assessed work. We do not sell completed coursework of any kind, and we do not distribute boards' syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes - the school is the proper route to current versions.

We hold no approval, licence or accreditation from SPEA, the Ministry of Education, KHDA, ADEK, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson, and we do not describe ourselves as approved by any of them. We also do not perform or guarantee Ministry of Education equivalency, which families complete themselves through the official channel - and tutoring is not a requirement for equivalency, university admission or school progression.

Finally, a limit on availability rather than on service. Narrow courses at popular hours sometimes have no specialist free, and when that happens we offer a different hour or a named date instead of a substitute. For a family at this distance there is no local fallback to catch a mismatch early, which is exactly why we would rather give you a clear no.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Kalba

The east coast and its connections, read for what each place means for a Kalba family's schooling and tutoring.

Khor Fakkan

The nearest substantial town, also part of Sharjah and also on the Gulf of Oman. Families here face the same supply question, which is why the two communities compare notes constantly.

Fujairah city

The closest urban centre with a meaningful choice of private schools, and the destination for many east-coast families. Its private schools are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education rather than by SPEA.

Dibba

Further north on the same coast, with an even thinner local market. The pattern is identical: general local supply, no course-specific expertise within reach.

Sharjah city

The emirate's main urban area, across the Hajar mountains. Home to the deepest tutoring market in the emirate and far too distant for a twice-weekly in-home arrangement.

Al Dhaid

On the inland route between the coasts, and a reminder of the real distances involved. A tutor based there is not a practical in-home option for Kalba either.

Muwaileh and University City

Where much of Sharjah's tutoring supply, including the budget band, actually lives. Reachable from Kalba over video and nowhere near reachable by car on a weekday evening.

Dubai

The deepest market in the country, with 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering seventeen curricula recorded in 2024-25. Online, a Dubai-based specialist is no harder to reach from Kalba than from Al Nahda.

School ecosystem

Schools east-coast families most often name

There is no IB Diploma provision on this coast, so families either travel, board, or choose a school with a different curriculum and plan around it. Those are real constraints rather than preferences, and they shape what tutoring has to do.

  • Emirates National School, Sharjah City campus

IB schools in the emirate's main urban area

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the subject and the level

The exact course and whether it is higher or standard level, plus the year and the next dated assessment. For an east-coast family this is especially worth getting right first time, because the alternative is discovering a mismatch after weeks rather than after a conversation.

  2. 02

Ask the school for its documents

The subject guide, the task sheet for any assessed component, and the internal deadline calendar. Distance makes informal clarification hard, so having these in writing is worth more here than in a city, and schools supply them on request.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson over live video

A full one-to-one lesson with the tutor who would be assigned, no payment and no card details. Where you can send a marked script or draft, it is read beforehand so the hour is diagnosis. You keep the annotated work either way.

  4. 04

A fixed slot, reviewed at six sessions

An hour that fits the actual school timetable - including a boarding or commuting pattern - with a written target list and a review on timed scores and criterion feedback. A wrong match is replaced without restarting the plan.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Distance stops being a constraint

Over live video the pool available to a Kalba family is the national one, which is the only way a Diploma subject specialist becomes reachable from this coast. IB Gram runs no UAE home visits - that service exists only in India - so nothing in the rate pays for a journey.

Matched to the level, not the year

Higher and standard level are different teaching jobs in the same subject, and the level changes both the paper style and the weekly workload. We ask for it before anything else, and we will test a level decision with real higher level questions rather than opinions.

Criteria before drafting

Assessed work is won in the planning: a question the available apparatus can answer, variables genuinely controlled, uncertainty handled honestly. We read the descriptors with the student at the start, and the tutor writes nothing.

Things in writing, because distance demands it

We will ask you to request the subject guide, task sheets and internal deadline calendar. A parent who cannot drop into the department needs documents instead, and they exist already.

Honest about what we are not

No grade guarantees, no completed coursework, no distributed board material, no claimed regulator approval, no UAE premises. And if your real need is an adult in the room with a young child, a local arrangement is better than ours.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Kalba: your questions answered

Can we get an IB tutor to visit a home in Kalba?+

Realistically, not a subject specialist. There is no IB Diploma provision on this coast, so the pool of people nearby who have taught a specific DP subject to final-grade standard is very small, and the drive from the emirate's main urban area is not one anybody makes twice a week. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE in any case - that service exists only in India. What we do offer is one-to-one teaching over live video with a specialist matched to the subject and level.

Is online tutoring a compromise for a family this far from the city?+

It is the opposite. The further a family lives from a dense tutoring market, the more the online format adds, because it replaces a very short local list with the national pool. A Kalba student can work with a tutor who has taught higher level chemistry for years, at the same rate a family in the city pays, with no travel component - and across published UAE rate cards in-home visits cost AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor.

With a long commute already, is three higher level subjects realistic?+

It can be, but treat it as a timetable decision as much as an academic one. Higher level adds content, treats shared topics in more depth, asks paper questions that combine topics, and consumes a disproportionate share of the week - which compounds across three subjects and lands hardest on a student already spending two hours a day travelling or living away from home. Also read the published entry requirements of the degree routes under consideration, since several science and mathematics courses expect specific higher level subjects. Two or three sessions on genuine HL material produce better evidence than any amount of discussion.

Which IB maths route suits a student whose school offers only one properly?+

Decide from prerequisites and evidence, not reputation. Analysis and Approaches is proof, algebra and calculus heavy and is expected by several engineering, mathematics and physics routes. Applications and Interpretation is modelling and statistics heavy and is not the easy option at higher level. Read the stated requirements of the degrees being considered, then attempt questions from both with somebody who teaches both. If your school offers only one route thinly, plan support around that rather than discovering the gap in DP2.

How much of an internal assessment can a tutor support remotely?+

Nearly all of it except the laboratory work itself, which happens at school with the school's equipment. Everything around it transfers cleanly: questioning the research question until the available apparatus can answer it, identifying variables that need controlling, teaching the statistics or uncertainty handling, reading a draft against the criteria and explaining which one it fails. What a tutor may never do, in person or remotely, is write, redraft or edit any part of the submitted work.

Where do IB marks actually get lost in the sciences?+

In chemistry: energetics, equilibrium, organic conditions, and loose wording in extended responses where precision is marked. In physics: sign conventions, unstated assumptions in multi-step problems, and uncertainty treatment in the investigation. In biology: command terms and data-based questions, plus statistical tests chosen because they are familiar rather than because they answer the question. In all three, an investigation whose variables were never controlled cannot be rescued by writing it up well.

Which regulator covers schools in Kalba and Khor Fakkan?+

The Sharjah Private Education Authority, since both towns are part of Sharjah. SPEA regulates private education in the emirate and, along with Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge, approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Fujairah's private schools are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education instead, which matters if your child attends school across that boundary. IB Gram holds no approval or accreditation from SPEA or any other authority.

Our child boards in the city during the week. How does tutoring fit?+

Around the school's timetable rather than a home one, which usually means a weekend session and possibly one short weekday slot if the boarding house allows it. The advantage of a boarding pattern is that the school's own structure covers weekday evenings; the disadvantage is that a parent sees less of the work. We ask for the school's internal deadline calendar in that situation, because it replaces the informal awareness a day student's parent picks up.

How do the mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education lessons affect the week?+

They fill it. Private schools must teach Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies alongside their licensed curriculum, with instructional time counted in forty-minute lesson units, and schools organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in several of those subjects. So a Diploma student arrives home with work from two curricula. The practical effect is that short, specific sessions survive and long general ones do not. We can support Arabic as an additional language where a student sits below their year group.

Why do you not give IB exam dates anywhere?+

Because we could not verify them at source - the IB's own site blocks automated access, so no session or results date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself. For a family planning around a distance and possibly a boarding arrangement, a wrong date would be worse than no date. UAE schools sit the May session, and your school's coordinator holds the confirmed dates for your child's cohort. Cambridge and Pearson dates, which the boards publish, we do cite.

Can a tutor help with Theory of Knowledge and the extended essay from a distance?+

Yes, and these are among the easiest components to support remotely because they are entirely thinking and writing. Useful work is sequence and criteria: choosing a question that can be answered in the length available, agreeing checkpoints earlier than the school's, and reading drafts against the published descriptors. Both components set no weekly homework, which is why they slip - fortnightly short check-ins with one named deliverable each keep them moving. The student writes every word.

What should we ask the school for, given we cannot drop in?+

Four documents, all of which exist. The subject guide for each course, the task sheet for any assessed component, the internal deadline calendar - submission dates per subject, extended essay checkpoints, the Theory of Knowledge deadline - and the marked script from any mock. Distance means a parent here cannot pick things up informally in a corridor, so written documents do that job instead. Most schools supply them on request and very few families ask.

Does a private tutor in Sharjah need a permit, even for online lessons?+

Private tutoring in the UAE requires a work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Those operating without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, with no published fine schedule. Since it costs nothing, asking a prospective tutor is reasonable.

What if no specialist is available in our subject at a workable hour?+

We tell you and offer alternatives rather than a substitute. Narrow courses - a higher level language, a less common science, Theory of Knowledge coaching at a popular hour - sometimes have nobody free, particularly in the weeks before a session. The options are a different hour, a weekend morning, or a named date when a slot opens. For a family at this distance a generalist substitution is especially damaging, because there is no local fallback to notice the mismatch early.

Subject and level first, geography last

The east coast limits your choice of school and your access to a corridor conversation. It does not limit who can teach your child. Send the exact subject and level, the next dated assessment, and a marked script or draft if you have one - plus the subject guide and internal deadline calendar if the school has supplied them. We will match a specialist who has taught that course at that level, read the work before you meet, and run a free trial lesson over live video at no cost, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time.
