IB Diploma Tutor in Sharjah

Most families searching for an IB diploma tutor in Sharjah want one number and cannot find one. Three of the six best-ranking pages in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars. This page does the opposite: published AED bands by format and level, the seven variables that genuinely move the figure in this emirate, and a two-year Diploma budget laid out phase by phase. Lessons themselves run one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Sharjah

The price question, answered before the sales pitch

A Sharjah parent researching Diploma support runs into the same wall every time. The agency pages talk about quality, outcomes and bespoke matching for nine hundred words and never state a figure. One well-ranked page in this market puts the price question in its own frequently-asked list and then declines to answer it. The marketplaces that do publish numbers quote US dollars, a currency no UAE household transacts in, and the few local rate claims contradict each other between the body copy and the structured data. The result is that a reasonable family cannot work out whether Diploma tutoring costs eight hundred dirhams a month or eight thousand.

It is not a secret. Published figures exist across this market and they cluster predictably. At the budget end, EdFlik advertises online tutoring from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. Unitors publishes IGCSE tutoring from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to 350, with IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above. TutorChase quotes AED 270. BartyED sits at AED 650 for premium named tutors. Monthly packages advertised in this market run from AED 799 for eight online sessions to AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits.

Those are other providers' published rates, with the source named, and they are the honest basis for a budget. They are not an IB Gram price list, and this page does not pretend otherwise. What we can tell you without a conversation is the shape of the market, the variables that push a Diploma figure to one end of the band or the other, and roughly what a two-year plan for one Higher Level subject adds up to. What we cannot tell you is your number, because it depends on the subject, the level, the stage of the Diploma and how many hours you actually need, and a platform that quotes you a flat rate before asking any of that is guessing.

The variables matter more than the headline rate, and this is where Sharjah differs from Dubai. Scarcity is the first one. A Higher Level Chemistry or Mathematics Analysis and Approaches specialist who can travel to an address in Al Nouf or Khor Fakkan is close to a non-existent commodity, and scarcity inside a travel radius is the single largest hidden multiplier on an in-home rate anywhere in the northern emirates. Timing is the second: the weekday hours after 7pm, which is when households commuting back from Dubai schools are actually free, are the most contested slots in the week and price accordingly.

The third variable is what the hours are for. Teaching a Higher Level option topic is a different job from reviewing an internal assessment draft, and reviewing a draft is a different job again from building exam technique against past papers eight weeks out. The first is content delivery and can be weekly for a term. The second is a short, intense block. The third is a sprint with a hard end date. Families who buy an undifferentiated hourly rate for all three usually overpay for the first and underbuy the third.

Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video. IB Gram does not arrange home visits in the UAE; tutors visiting a family's address is something we do only in India. On a cost page that fact matters twice: it removes travel time from inside the hourly rate, and it removes the radius limit that otherwise decides which Diploma specialist a Sharjah family is allowed to want.

At a glance

  • Published market bands, each attributed: AED 33-65 budget, 150-300 qualified online, 200-450+ specialist
  • Seven variables move the figure; subject scarcity and the 7pm slot dominate in Sharjah
  • A two-year Higher Level plan costs differently in DP1 than in the twelve weeks before exams
  • The MoHRE private tuition permit is free of charge, so no licensing fee should reach your invoice
  • Online delivery strips travel time out of the rate and the radius out of the match
  • We quote after the subject, level and stage are known, never before
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three programmes carry different price logic. Primary and middle-years work is cheaper because the pool of competent teachers is larger. Diploma work prices on specialisation, and the core components price on scarcity of experience rather than subject knowledge.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, normally three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Each subject carries externally marked examinations in the session UAE schools sit in May, plus one internally assessed component. Higher Level courses carry more teaching hours, an additional paper in several subjects, and option topics that narrow the pool of tutors who can teach them credibly. That narrowing is what the rate reflects.

Sharjah has a small number of campuses offering the full Diploma, and many Sharjah households run their Diploma years at Dubai-licensed schools, crossing from Al Nahda, Al Taawun and Al Majaz daily. For pricing, the consequence is that a local in-home Diploma specialist in a Higher Level science is rare enough that the quoted hourly rate carries a scarcity premium on top of travel.

COREAcross DP1 and DP2

Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS

The core is where points are quietly won and lost. The Extended Essay is a 4,000-word independent piece with a supervisor; Theory of Knowledge carries an exhibition and a prescribed-title essay; CAS is not graded but must be completed. Support here is process coaching and feedback on the student's own drafts rather than content teaching, so it is usually bought as a short block of a few sessions around deadlines rather than as a weekly commitment.

Supervisor loads at Sharjah and northern-emirates schools are heavy, and Extended Essay supervision in a subject nobody on staff specialises in is a common complaint. That is the single most frequent reason a Sharjah family buys a short core block, and it prices below a Higher Level subject because it is six to eight hours, not a term.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Five years of criterion-assessed work across eight subject groups, with no external examinations in a normal year and the Personal Project in MYP 5. Rates sit below Diploma rates because the content is less specialised and more teachers can deliver it well. The exception is the final MYP 5 term, when bridging work toward DP1 starts to price like early Diploma work because it is Diploma content being introduced early.

Sharjah families most often start paying for tutoring at the MYP 5 to DP1 boundary, which is also the cheapest useful moment to start. Preventive work in that window is consistently less expensive than corrective work in the October of DP1, and it is the one piece of budgeting advice on this page that holds regardless of provider.

RETAKEPost-DP2

Retake and November-session candidates

A student retaking one or two subjects in a later session is a different commercial proposition: a narrow, well-diagnosed body of work, usually six to twelve weeks, aimed at specific papers rather than a whole course. Costs are concentrated rather than spread, and the budget question becomes how many sessions a week for how few weeks, not what a term costs.

Retake candidates in the northern emirates frequently need a registered examination centre as well as a tutor, and centre arrangements are made directly with the school or an authorised centre rather than through a tutoring platform. Confirm the entry route before buying teaching hours, because the entry deadline is the binding constraint, not tutor availability.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Diploma subjects do not price uniformly. Scarcity of credible teachers in this market, not difficulty, is what sets the rate, and the gap between the thickest and thinnest subject markets in the northern emirates is wide enough to notice on an invoice.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The thickest tutoring market in the Diploma and still the most requested. Higher Level carries Paper 3, a longer problem-solving paper, and proof, complex numbers and calculus depth that fewer tutors handle confidently. Standard Level work prices at the lower end of the specialist band; Higher Level sits toward the top of it.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and the graphical calculator carry much of the assessment. Fewer tutors specialise here than in Analysis and Approaches, which pushes the Higher Level rate up despite the course being widely described as more approachable. The route decision has university consequences and should be made before DP1, not during it.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Higher Level Chemistry is the clearest example of scarcity pricing in Sharjah. Organic mechanisms, energetics and the Higher Level-only content narrow the pool sharply, and the internal assessment is a demanding independent investigation. Expect the top of the published specialist band for Higher Level and a short additional block for the investigation.

Physics

HL and SL

Mathematical demand is the reason students struggle, not the physics. Higher Level adds depth across fields and an option topic, and the Higher Level cohort at any single Sharjah campus is often in single figures, so the local pool of relevant tutors is correspondingly thin.

Biology

HL and SL

Large content volume, heavily command-term dependent marking, and an internal assessment that lives or dies on the research question. Standard Level Biology is one of the better-supplied subjects in this market, which keeps the rate near the middle of the band rather than the top.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram discipline and evaluation carry the marks; the internal assessment is three commentaries on published news articles, each with a word limit. A thinner market than the sciences in the northern emirates, so the rate behaves more like a Higher Level science than a Standard Level humanity.

Business Management

HL and SL

Case-study technique and quantitative tools, with Higher Level adding extension content and a longer response paper. Supply of competent tutors is reasonable, but experience with the internal assessment and its word limit is the scarce part and the part worth paying for.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 unseen analysis, Paper 2 comparative essay, the individual oral and the Higher Level essay. The bottleneck is examiners of written analysis rather than teachers of literature, and short, intense blocks before the oral and Paper 1 are the usual purchase pattern rather than year-round weekly sessions.

Arabic and Language Acquisition subjects

HL, SL and ab initio

Arabic at Standard Level and ab initio is widely supplied in this emirate; Arabic A at Higher Level is not. Spanish and French ab initio sit in between. Language Acquisition pricing in the northern emirates is driven almost entirely by which language and which level, not by the programme.

Psychology

HL and SL

Study recall, evaluation and research-methods literacy, with the internal assessment being a simple experimental replication written to a strict format. One of the thinnest Diploma markets locally, which is reflected in both availability and rate.

Extended Essay supervision support

Across DP1 and DP2

A short block rather than a course: scoping the research question, the method, the argument structure and the referencing conventions, all as feedback on the student's own drafts. Priced per session rather than per term, and usually six to eight sessions spread across two deadlines.

Theory of Knowledge

DP1 and DP2

The exhibition and the prescribed-title essay, both assessed against published criteria that reward precision of claim rather than breadth of reading. Few tutors teach it, and the ones who do tend to charge a flat session rate, because the work does not scale with subject specialisation.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Each format buys a different thing, and matching the format to the need is where most of the available saving sits. Paying a weekly rate for work that needed a four-session block is the commonest overspend in this market.

Weekly one-to-one on a single subject

Sixty or ninety minutes a week on one Diploma subject through a term, aimed at content that the school is teaching now. This is the right format when the issue is understanding rather than technique, and it is the most expensive format per outcome if the real problem was exam technique all along. We ask for a recent marked assessment before recommending it.

  • One subject, one level, one tutor through the term
  • Scheduled around the Sharjah or Dubai school run
  • Written note after each session naming what was covered
  • Reviewed at week six against the school's own marks

Internal assessment or Extended Essay block

A fixed, short block of sessions tied to a deadline: scoping, method, structure and feedback on the student's own drafts. Priced as a block because the work has a start and an end, not as an open commitment. The authorship line is explicit and does not move: the student writes, the tutor reads and questions.

  • Four to eight sessions against a named school deadline
  • Research question narrowed until it is answerable with available data
  • Feedback in comments on the student's own file
  • Nothing supplied as finished prose at any stage

Pre-examination technique sprint

Eight to twelve weeks before the session UAE schools sit, two sessions a week on past papers, command terms, timing and the specific papers where marks are being dropped. Highest intensity and highest weekly cost, but the shortest duration, and usually the best value per dirham of anything on this page.

  • Diagnosed from marked mock papers, not from a syllabus checklist
  • Timed practice under real paper conditions
  • Paper-by-paper mark recovery targets
  • Ends with the examination session rather than rolling on

Diagnostic session and written plan

A single paid or trial session that produces a written plan: which subject, which format, how many sessions, and what the alternative to tutoring would be. Families who buy this first consistently spend less across two Diploma years than families who start with a weekly commitment in three subjects.

  • Marked work read before the session, not during it
  • A written plan naming format, volume and review date
  • An honest answer where the plan is to do nothing yet
  • No obligation to book anything afterwards

Published AED rates for Diploma support, by format and level

The table below is the thing this market does not publish. Every figure in it is a rate someone else has put on their own website, with the provider named, read in October 2026. The reason for presenting them as bands rather than as a single number is that a Standard Level humanities hour and a Higher Level Chemistry hour are not the same product, and averaging them produces a figure that misleads in both directions.

Read the table by format first and by level second. Format is the larger effect: the gap between a budget online platform and a specialist in-home visit is wider than the gap between Standard Level and Higher Level within any single format. Travel is the reason. An in-home tutor crossing Sharjah at 5pm is being paid for the drive whether the invoice itemises it or not, and the published in-home band of AED 180 to 500 contains that drive.

Two cautions on reading any rate table in this market, including this one. Rates move, and a figure read in October 2026 should be checked against the provider's current page before you rely on it, because at least one competitor in this market publishes one rate in its body copy and a different one in its structured data on the same page. And a published starting rate is a starting rate: providers advertising from AED 150 are generally quoting their Standard Level, off-peak, lower-demand subject, and the Higher Level science slot at 7.30pm on a Tuesday is not that product. Treat the lower bound as the best case and budget from the middle of the band if you want a figure you will not have to revise in February.

The seven things that actually move the number in this emirate

A quoted rate is the output of a small number of inputs, and most of them are things a family can see in advance. Knowing which ones apply to your situation is the difference between accepting a number and negotiating a sensible one. Six of the seven below apply anywhere; the scarcity multiplier is specific to the northern emirates and is the one that catches Sharjah families out when they compare notes with friends in Dubai.

The largest single lever is format, and it is the one most families do not realise they control. Choosing online over in-home removes the travel component from the rate and widens the pool of tutors from those within a half-hour drive to anyone available at that hour. For a Higher Level science in Khor Fakkan, that is not a marginal improvement in choice; it is the difference between a match and no match.

The second largest is what the hours are for. Content teaching through a term is a different purchase from an eight-week technique sprint, and families who price only by the hour systematically overbuy the first and underbuy the second. The honest sequencing advice is to diagnose first, buy the narrow intervention, review at week six, and extend only on evidence.

The remaining five levers are smaller individually and substantial together. Time of day, proximity to the examination session, session length, frequency and subject scarcity will between them swing a quote across most of the width of the published band, without any difference in the quality of the teaching being bought. That is worth saying plainly, because the industry convention is to imply that a higher rate always means a better tutor. In this market a higher rate frequently means a longer drive, a more contested hour, or a subject in which only a handful of local people are credible.

03

Higher Level against Standard Level: hours first, rate second

Families compare hourly rates between Higher and Standard Level and conclude that Higher Level costs around a third more. The hourly comparison is the smaller half of the story. Higher Level courses carry more taught content, additional assessment components in several subjects, and option material that narrows which tutors can help, so the realistic number of hours needed across two years is higher as well. The multiplication of a larger rate by a larger hour count is what a budget needs to anticipate.

That is not an argument for avoiding Higher Level. It is an argument for choosing where the support goes. A student with three Higher Level subjects does not need weekly tutoring in all three, and the usual sensible allocation is sustained support in the one Higher Level subject that gates their university plans, technique work in the second, and nothing in the third unless evidence says otherwise. Spreading a fixed budget thinly across six subjects is the pattern that produces the least visible change.

The table sets out what actually differs between the levels in a way that maps onto tutoring hours. Use it to decide which subject deserves the sustained spend. The grade ceiling matters here too: Standard Level and Higher Level both run on the same 1 to 7 scale, so a 6 at Standard Level and a 6 at Higher Level are reported identically while representing very different quantities of work, and some university offers care about which subject sat at which level far more than about the total points.

A two-year Diploma budget, counted forward

Most families think about tutoring in months and then are surprised by the two-year total. Laying it out as phases makes the arithmetic visible and, more usefully, shows where the money has the most effect. The phases below use the published mid-band online rate rather than our own pricing, so the figures are illustrative of the market rather than a quotation.

The pattern worth noticing is that the cheapest phase to buy is the first and the most expensive phase to skip is also the first. Bridging work in the final middle-years term and early DP1 is content work at the lower end of the rate band, and it prevents the much more expensive corrective work that otherwise lands in the DP2 autumn. The most intensive spending happens in the twelve weeks before the examination session, which is exactly when supply is tightest and discounting is least likely.

The phase table also makes the case for not committing to everything in DP1. A family that starts with a diagnostic session and one subject, reviews at week six, and expands only on evidence will usually spend less across two years than a family that commits to three subjects in September of DP1 and never reassesses. That is the single largest controllable variable in the whole budget, and it costs nothing to apply.

One phase is deliberately left at zero in the table. The contingency line exists because the honest answer to whether a second subject will need support in DP2 is that nobody knows in September of DP1, and pretending otherwise is how a plan becomes a commitment. Leave the line in the budget, leave it unspent, and let the week-six and end-of-term marks decide. A family that can point to the moment they chose to spend the contingency has a budget; a family that committed to it in advance has a subscription.

Internal assessment, Extended Essay and TOK: what the fee buys and what it never buys

  • A core block is four to eight sessions against a deadline, not a term commitment
  • Feedback is given on the student's own drafts, in comments, never as replacement text
  • Anyone selling completed assessed coursework is selling the student a malpractice risk
  • The genuine gap in Sharjah is thin supervisor coverage in specialised essay subjects

Core components attract the most dishonest pricing in this market, because the thing a desperate family wants to buy in February of DP2 is not teaching. There is an operator in this SERP selling finished internal assessments at a published four-figure dirham price. That is academic malpractice under IB rules, the consequence falls on the student rather than the seller, and a Diploma can be withheld over it. Any page quoting a price for a completed piece of assessed coursework is advertising the risk, not the service.

What legitimate core support costs and contains is narrower and cheaper. A supervision block is four to eight sessions: narrowing the research question until it can be answered with data the student can actually obtain, choosing a method that fits the subject's criteria, structuring the argument, and giving feedback on text the student has written. The tutor reads and questions; the student writes. Feedback is given in comments on the student's own file, which leaves an authorship trail a supervisor can read.

The practical reason Sharjah families buy these blocks is supervisor load. A school with a small Diploma cohort may have one teacher supervising essays across several subjects, including one they do not specialise in, and a student researching a question outside that teacher's field gets thin methodological guidance through no fault of anyone's. A short external block fills exactly that gap, prices below a term of subject tutoring, and is the best-value core purchase available. What it cannot do is substitute for the supervisor, who remains the person who signs the work off.

06

Tutoring cost in context: Sharjah fees, SPEA approval and examination entry

A tutoring figure means nothing without the numbers around it. Sharjah private school fees are approved by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which the UAE government portal describes as approving tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods for the emirate. That is a stronger remit than inspection alone, and it means fee changes in Sharjah run through a regulator rather than through the school's own discretion. For the wider regional picture, KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total.

That matters to a Sharjah household because so many of them pay Dubai fees. Set a tutoring budget against the fee line, not against a general sense of affordability, and the proportion usually turns out to be smaller than feared for a short intervention and larger than expected for three subjects weekly across two years. The arithmetic also makes the case for sequencing: a diagnostic session costs a fraction of one month of weekly tutoring and routinely changes what the next six months look like.

Examination entry is a separate line that catches families out. School candidates have entry handled by the school as part of fees or as an itemised charge. Private candidates arrange entry through a registered centre and pay that centre directly, and the deadlines sit months before the papers. On VAT, the only honest position is a narrow one: ask any provider whether their quoted dirham figure includes it, and treat a general claim about the tax treatment of tuition in the UAE as something to verify with the Federal Tax Authority rather than to accept from a tutoring page.

Why an in-home rate in Sharjah costs more than the hourly gap suggests

  • Published bands: AED 180-500 in-home against AED 150-300 qualified online
  • Travel time sits inside the in-home rate, the minimum length and the cancellation terms
  • In-home availability is thinnest in the exact evening hours Sharjah families need
  • Online delivery removes the radius constraint on which specialist you can be matched with

IB Gram delivers tutoring to UAE families as one-to-one lessons over live video, and does not arrange home visits in Sharjah or anywhere else in the UAE; tutors travelling to a family's address is a service we run only in India. On a page about money, the useful thing is not the policy but the arithmetic behind it, because the arithmetic is what a parent is really comparing.

Start with the published bands. In-home one-to-one sits at AED 180 to 500 an hour across this market and qualified online one-to-one at AED 150 to 300. The gap looks like a modest premium for convenience. It is not only that. A tutor crossing from Dubai to Al Majaz for a 5pm start spends ninety minutes in traffic to deliver sixty minutes of teaching, and that time is priced into the rate, the cancellation policy and the minimum session length. It also caps how many sessions that tutor can take in an evening, which is why in-home availability is thinnest precisely in the hours Sharjah families want.

Then the part that does not show up as money at all. An in-home requirement reduces the candidate pool from everyone qualified to everyone qualified within a reasonable drive of your address, at the hour you need, in the exact subject and level, with experience of your school's option topics. For Higher Level Chemistry in Khor Fakkan, that intersection is often empty. Online delivery removes the geographic constraint entirely, and for a Diploma subject the lesson content is a past paper, a markscheme and a shared screen, which travels perfectly well.

08

What scarcity does to a quote, subject by subject

  • Thicker markets: Mathematics AA at Standard Level, Standard Level Biology, Business Management, Arabic SL
  • Thinner markets: Higher Level Chemistry and Physics, Mathematics AI at Higher Level, Psychology, Arabic A HL, TOK
  • In a thin market the binding constraint is availability, not the hourly figure
  • Coverage limits are disclosed before a trial lesson, not after one

The published bands describe the market. What you are quoted depends on where your specific subject sits inside it, and in the northern emirates that is mostly a question of how many people can credibly teach it at the level you need. Diploma cohorts at individual Sharjah campuses are small, so experience of a specific Higher Level option topic is genuinely rare rather than rhetorically rare.

The thickest markets are Mathematics Analysis and Approaches at Standard Level, Standard Level Biology, Business Management and Arabic at Standard Level or ab initio. Expect quotes near the middle of the published band and reasonable choice of tutor and slot. The thinnest are Higher Level Chemistry and Physics, Mathematics Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level, Psychology, Arabic A at Higher Level, and Theory of Knowledge, where the constraint is not rate but availability, and an in-home requirement often produces no match at all.

The honest consequence is a disclosure rather than a sales point. Where no UAE-based specialist is available for a subject and level, the match may be a tutor based elsewhere, teaching the same syllabus over the same video platform, at the rate the subject commands rather than a premium for the inconvenience. We say so before a trial lesson rather than after, and a family that would prefer to wait for local availability is told how long that is likely to be. No competitor in this market discloses a coverage limit at all, which is worth noticing while reading their rate pages.

Permits, invoices and the questions that change what you pay

  • The permit is free of charge for two years; no licensing fee should appear on an invoice
  • The permit's code of conduct bars tutoring students from the tutor's own school
  • Ask whether the figure is per hour or per session, and whether any tax is included
  • Ask the cancellation and replacement terms before the first payment, not after

Private tutoring in the UAE runs on a permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced through Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and the federal portal states it is granted free of charge for two years, covering teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service listing, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, shows no fee and a two-working-day completion time via the smart app, website and e-services system.

Two commercial consequences follow. Because the permit is free, any line on an invoice describing a licensing, registration or compliance fee is a markup with a story attached, and you are entitled to ask what it is for. And because the permit carries a code of conduct that bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, a cheap arrangement with your child's own subject teacher is the one deal that is not worth the saving. Abu Dhabi's ADEK ethics rules for school staff point the same way, prohibiting paid private tutoring of students enrolled at the teacher's own school.

Four questions will tell you most of what you need before you pay anything. Does the tutor hold the MoHRE permit. Is the quoted dirham figure inclusive of any tax, and is it per hour or per session. What exactly happens to the fee if a session is cancelled by either side within twenty-four hours. And what the replacement arrangement is if the tutor becomes unavailable mid-term. Those four answers predict the total cost of a term far better than the headline rate does. For the record, IB Gram holds no licence, accreditation or partnership from SPEA, KHDA, ADEK, the Ministry of Education, the IB or any awarding body, and operates no office in the UAE.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Sharjah

Address changes price in two ways in Sharjah: it determines which hour of the evening a session can occupy, and it determines how far an in-home tutor would have to drive, which is the component families underestimate most.

Al Nahda

The heaviest Dubai-commuting population in the emirate. The earliest realistic Diploma slot is 6pm and the contested hour is 7.30pm, which is why evening availability, not the headline rate, is the first thing to confirm when booking from here.

Al Majaz

Khalid Lagoon households split between Sharjah campuses and Dubai schools. An in-home tutor driving in from Dubai for a 5pm start in Al Majaz is buying ninety minutes of traffic, and that time sits inside whatever hourly figure they quote.

Al Taawun

Corniche apartment living with a sharp traffic peak after 6pm. Families here report the widest gap between quoted in-home rates and quoted online rates for the same subject, which is almost entirely the travel component.

Muwaileh

Short commutes to the local school belt make a 4.30pm Diploma session genuinely possible, and earlier slots are cheaper to fill than 7.30pm ones. The most price-flexible scheduling in the emirate sits here.

Aljada and Al Zahia

Newer stock with younger families, so the Diploma cohort is smaller and more likely to be at a Dubai campus. Requests from here skew toward Higher Level sciences, which is also where the local supply is thinnest.

University City and Al Nouf

Academic households that tend to buy diagnostic sessions and short blocks rather than open-ended weekly commitments. This is the pattern that produces the lowest total spend across two Diploma years.

Khor Fakkan and Kalba

Regulated by SPEA like the rest of the emirate, but outside any in-home tutor's economic radius. Quotes for in-home Diploma support on the east coast, where they exist at all, carry travel costs that make the comparison with online delivery one-sided.

Al Qasimia and Al Khan

Mixed-curriculum neighbourhoods where a Diploma student may be the only one in their building. Group tutoring is rarely available locally at Higher Level, so the group-rate saving that applies in Dubai usually does not apply here.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Sharjah

Sharjah campuses and the Diploma cohort size question

Students we support attend a mix of Sharjah campuses and British, American and Indian curriculum schools in the emirate. Cohort size is the relevant commercial fact: a Higher Level subject taught to a handful of students locally means almost no local tutor has recent experience of that exact course.

  • Victoria International School of Sharjah
  • Emirates National School, Sharjah
  • Sharjah American International School
  • Wesgreen International School
  • Australian International School, Sharjah
  • Sharjah English School

Dubai-licensed campuses Sharjah Diploma families attend

A large share of Sharjah Diploma students are enrolled in Dubai, which puts them under KHDA rather than SPEA and moves the workable session time later in the evening. Both facts change the practical cost of support.

  • Deira International School
  • GEMS Our Own English High School, Dubai
  • Dubai Scholars Private School
  • Al Mawakeb School, Al Garhoud
  • The Indian High School, Dubai

Schools are named only as context for the local education ecosystem; IB Gram claims no affiliation with, partnership with or endorsement from any school, group or regulator named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level and the stage

Which subject, Higher or Standard Level, which Diploma year, and what the last marked assessment said. Three lines is enough. Without the level and stage any figure quoted at you is a guess, and we would rather not guess at you.

  2. 02

A written plan with a format and a volume

We come back with the format we think fits, how many sessions, over how many weeks, and what the alternative to tutoring would be. The plan names the review date up front, which is what makes the spend auditable later.

  3. 03

A free trial lesson with the proposed tutor

One full session with the tutor who would do the work, using your child's own marked paper, before any card details are taken. The note afterwards shows you what the weekly record would look like.

  4. 04

Agree the terms in writing before the first payment

Rate per session, session length, cancellation window, replacement arrangement if the tutor becomes unavailable, and whether any tax applies. Four lines, agreed once, that remove most of what goes wrong commercially later.

  5. 05

Review at week six against the school's marks

We read the school's assessment marks from the block next to the session notes and say plainly whether to continue, change subject, change format, or stop. Extending a block without that reading is how a budget quietly doubles.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Published figures, attributed, in dirhams

Every rate on this page is a number another provider published, with the provider named and the month it was read. Three of the six best-ranking pages in this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote dollars.

Format matched to the diagnosis

A deadline block, a technique sprint and weekly content teaching cost different amounts and fix different problems. We name which one the marked work points to before quoting anything, because the mismatch is where families overspend.

No travel inside the rate

Lessons run over live video, so there is no drive priced into the hour, no minimum session length set by traffic, and no radius limit on which Diploma specialist you can be matched with.

Coverage limits disclosed before the trial

Where no UAE-based specialist covers a subject and level, we say so and explain what the alternative is. No competitor in this market publishes a coverage limit, which is worth knowing while reading their availability claims.

A hard line on assessed coursework

Feedback on the student's own drafts, in comments, with nothing supplied as finished text. There is an operator in this market selling completed internal assessments at a published price; the risk of that transaction falls entirely on the student.

A review date written into the plan

Week six, read against the school's own marks, with stopping treated as a legitimate outcome. A spend that cannot be reviewed against evidence is not a budget, it is a subscription.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Sharjah: your questions answered

What does an IB Diploma tutor cost per hour for a family living in Sharjah?+

Published figures in this market cluster into bands. Budget online platforms advertise from AED 33 to 65 an hour, qualified online subject tutors from AED 150 to 300, in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to 500 with travel inside the rate, and named IB specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, with premium examiner-led tutors quoted as high as AED 650. Those are other providers' published rates read in October 2026, not ours. A Sharjah quote lands inside those bands according to subject, level, hour of the evening and how scarce the specialism is locally, which is why nobody can responsibly give you one figure before asking.

Why do Higher Level subjects cost more per term than Standard Level ones?+

Two multiplying effects rather than one. The hourly rate is higher because Higher Level courses carry option topics and additional papers, which narrows the pool of tutors who can teach them confidently, and in Sharjah that pool is thin to begin with. The hour count is also higher, because there is more taught content and the internal assessment expects greater independence. Families who budget only for the rate difference are surprised by the term total. The practical response is to concentrate sustained support in the one Higher Level subject that gates the university plan rather than spreading hours thinly across three.

Is a package of ten sessions genuinely cheaper than paying week by week?+

Sometimes, and the saving is usually smaller than the risk. Monthly packages advertised in this market run around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. The discount against an hourly rate is real, but a package bought before any diagnosis commits you to a format that may be wrong, and the sessions you do not use are rarely refundable. The lower-risk sequence is a diagnostic session, a short block, a review at week six, and a package only once you know the format and the tutor are right.

How many sessions a week does a DP2 student usually need?+

One a week in the subject being supported through the autumn, moving to two a week in the eight to twelve weeks before the examination session, in that subject only. Three subjects at two sessions a week is a volume almost no student can absorb alongside Diploma coursework, and it is the pattern that produces exhausted students and no measurable change. If marked mocks suggest three subjects all need intensive work, the realistic conversation is about subject level or candidate strategy with the school, not about buying eighteen hours a month.

Does the hourly rate go up as the May examination session gets closer?+

Availability tightens sharply and effective prices rise with it, across every provider in this market. Demand concentrates into the same twelve-week window for every Diploma candidate in the UAE, so the specialists in scarce subjects fill their evening slots first and discounting disappears. The practical consequence is about booking rather than about rate: diagnose in the autumn and secure the pre-examination block early. A family that starts looking for Higher Level Chemistry support in March is competing for the last slots in the thinnest subject market in the emirate.

Which Diploma subjects are hardest to find locally, and does that change the price?+

Higher Level Chemistry and Physics, Mathematics Applications and Interpretation at Higher Level, Psychology, Arabic A at Higher Level and Theory of Knowledge are the thin markets in the northern emirates. In a thin market the binding constraint is availability rather than the hourly figure, and an in-home requirement frequently produces no match at all. Diploma cohorts at individual Sharjah campuses are small, so recent experience of a particular Higher Level option topic is genuinely rare. Removing the geographic constraint by taking lessons online is what turns an empty search into a match, and it does so without a scarcity premium for travel.

If lessons are online, am I still paying for a tutor's travel somewhere in the rate?+

No, and that is most of the gap between the published bands. In-home one-to-one sits at AED 180 to 500 an hour in this market and qualified online one-to-one at AED 150 to 300. A tutor driving to Al Majaz for a 5pm start spends around ninety minutes in traffic to teach sixty, and that time is priced into the rate, the minimum session length and the cancellation terms. Online delivery removes it, and it removes the cap on how many sessions a tutor can take in an evening, which is why online availability in the contested 7pm hour is better.

Do the dirham figures quoted to us include tax?+

Ask, every time, of every provider, and get the answer in writing before the first payment. It is a fair and simple question and a reluctance to answer it tells you something. What this page will not do is state the UAE tax treatment of tuition fees as settled fact, because that position should come from the Federal Tax Authority rather than from a tutoring website. Keep the question narrow and answerable: is the figure you have quoted me inclusive, is it per hour or per session, and what is the cancellation window. Those three answers predict a term's actual cost better than the rate does.

What does Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge support cost compared with a subject?+

Less in total, because it is bought as a finite block rather than a term. Published specialist rates apply per session, but the volume is four to eight sessions for an Extended Essay across two deadlines, or fortnightly sessions for Theory of Knowledge, rather than a weekly commitment across two years. At mid-band online rates that is roughly AED 1,200 to 2,400 for the Extended Essay work spread over both Diploma years. The reason Sharjah families buy it is thin supervisor coverage in specialised essay subjects at schools with small Diploma cohorts, not dissatisfaction with their school.

Can one tutor take two of my child's six Diploma subjects, and does that save money?+

It can work for a pair within one discipline, such as Mathematics and Physics, or Economics and Business Management, and the saving is in scheduling rather than in rate. A single tutor who sees the same student twice a week carries the context across, which reduces wasted setup time at the start of each session. Across unrelated subjects it is usually a false economy: a tutor genuinely strong at Higher Level Chemistry and at English A Language and Literature is rare, and the weaker of the two subjects is where the hours quietly stop working.

What does supporting one Higher Level subject across both Diploma years add up to?+

At published mid-band online rates and a realistic volume, a plan that runs a bridge block, weekly content support through DP1, an internal assessment block and a pre-examination sprint comes to somewhere in the region of AED 10,000 to 21,000 across two years. That range is illustrative of market rates rather than a quotation, and the spread is wide because it depends entirely on how long the weekly phase runs. The controllable variable is the review: families who reassess at week six and stop or narrow when the evidence says so land near the bottom of that range.

Is group tutoring worth the saving for a Diploma subject in Sharjah?+

The saving is real, with published small-group rates roughly a third to a half of one-to-one, but availability locally is the problem. A group needs three or four students at the same subject, the same level, the same school option topic and the same free evening, and Diploma cohorts at individual Sharjah campuses are small enough that this rarely assembles outside Mathematics and Standard Level Biology. Where it does assemble it suits content revision and suits technique work poorly, because mark recovery depends on which specific papers each student is dropping marks in.

Should we pay for support in DP1 or wait until DP2?+

DP1, and earlier than most families do. The cheapest hours in the whole plan are the bridging ones before DP1 starts and the content ones in the first two terms, because that work is preventive and sits at the lower end of the rate band. The most expensive hours are the corrective ones bought in the DP2 autumn, when a content gap from DP1 has to be closed at the same time as new material and the internal assessment. Waiting also means competing for scarce specialists in the busiest twelve weeks of the market's year.

Do private candidates in Sharjah pay examination entry separately from tutoring?+

Yes, and the two are entirely unconnected. School candidates have entry handled by the school, either inside fees or as an itemised charge. A private candidate arranges entry through a registered examination centre and pays that centre directly, at rates the centre sets. The binding constraint is the deadline rather than the money: entry closes months before the papers are sat, so confirm the route and the date before buying teaching hours. No tutoring provider, including this one, can register a candidate or guarantee a seat at a centre.

Could a tutor charge us for their UAE permit?+

They should not, because the permit costs nothing. The UAE government portal states that the private tuition work permit is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page for Private Tutor Licensing lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Any invoice line describing a licensing, registration or compliance charge is therefore a markup, and asking what it covers is reasonable. The related question worth asking is whether the tutor holds the permit at all, since anyone tutoring without one is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

What is the cheapest honest way to support a Diploma student on a tight budget?+

Buy a diagnosis, then buy narrowly. One diagnostic session with a written plan costs a fraction of a month of weekly tutoring and frequently shows that the problem is one paper's technique or one unfinished internal assessment rather than a subject. Then buy the smallest intervention that addresses it: a four-session block, or an eight-week sprint before the examination session, in one subject. Set a review date before you start and treat stopping as a legitimate result. Spreading a small budget weekly across three subjects is the one approach that reliably produces no visible change.

Get the number before you get the pitch

Send three lines: the subject, whether it is Higher or Standard Level, and which Diploma year your child is in, with the last marked assessment if you have it. We will come back with a format, a session count, a review date and a figure, and we will say where the published market bands put that work so you can compare it against anyone else. If the marked paper says the problem is one paper's technique rather than a term of teaching, we will say that instead and the plan will be shorter and cheaper. The trial lesson is free, runs one-to-one over live video on Sharjah time, and comes before any payment.
