IB IGCSE Tuition near me in Sharjah

Parents who search for IB IGCSE tuition near me in Sharjah are usually asking something narrower than the words suggest: will anyone show me whether this is working? IB Gram answers that with marked work. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, so a session can start at 17:45 after a school run, and every hour leaves behind a marked script, the published mark scheme beside it, and a written instruction you can read for yourself.

  • One-to-one over live video, never a group class or a recording
  • Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 marked against the published mark scheme
  • A free trial lesson and a written diagnostic before any payment

IB & IGCSE in Sharjah

Proximity is the one thing you cannot verify

A proximity search gives you a map, a few directory listings and a distance in kilometres. None of those tells you whether the person at the other end has marked a Cambridge 0580 Paper 4 this term, or whether they can tell a Pearson 4MA1 Higher question stem from its Cambridge equivalent. Distance is easy to publish and almost impossible to use. What a Sharjah parent actually needs is evidence: the student's own marked script, the published mark scheme sitting beside it, and a sentence explaining which mark moved and why it moved.

Sharjah's school geography makes the map less useful still. Families in Al Nahda and Al Majaz often drive children across the border to schools in Al Qusais and Mirdif, then come home into the evening peak. Families in Muwaileh and University City sit minutes from the airport-road school cluster, but their board options are split between Cambridge and Pearson. Inland and on the east coast, in Al Dhaid, Kalba and Khor Fakkan, the local pool of IGCSE subject specialists is thin to non-existent. A twenty-minute radius means something different in each of those places.

So here is the delivery model stated plainly, before anything else on this page. Tuition for UAE families runs one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard and a scanned script on screen. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Sharjah or anywhere else in the UAE, because a tutor travelling to an address is a service that exists only in India. That is not a workaround dressed up as a feature. It is the thing that lets a family in Al Dhaid book the same 0620 Chemistry specialist a family in Al Zahia books.

The evidence model is the part worth reading twice. Every session produces three artefacts: the student's own attempt at a timed question, that attempt marked against the published scheme with the mark for each part written in, and a two-line instruction for the week. After four weeks you can lay the scripts side by side and see whether the same command word keeps costing marks. After twelve weeks you can see whether a forecast grade is defensible. Nothing in that file depends on trusting a tutor's self-description, and none of it is a satisfaction score.

Boards matter more than most Sharjah parents are told. A school can enter one cohort for Cambridge IGCSE and another for Pearson Edexcel International GCSE in the same subject, and the two sit different numbers of papers, report on different grade scales and tier differently. Tuition that ignores which of those your child is entered for produces practice on the wrong paper. The first thing a trial lesson establishes is the syllabus code on the entry, not the general topic, so ask your school's exams officer for it before you book anybody.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Sharjah schools run Cambridge, Pearson, IB and Indian curricula within a few kilometres of each other, and a single family often spans two of them. These are the four programme stages this page covers, with what each actually assesses and what each does to a Sharjah evening timetable.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson IGCSE

Two years, usually eight to ten subjects, examined externally at the end. Cambridge reports international IGCSE grades as A*-G and tiers maths and the sciences into Core and Extended. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE reports on the 9-1 scale and tiers maths into Foundation and Higher. These grades set A-Level and Diploma entry, and on the British track they are the five grades counted for certificate equivalency.

In Sharjah the entry decision belongs to the school rather than the family, and it is often split: the same year group can sit Cambridge 0580 maths and Pearson 4PH1 physics. Ask the exams officer for the code on each entry. The Sharjah Private Education Authority approves curricula and assessment methods for private schools in the emirate, so a mid-year board change is a school-level process, not a parent's choice.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects across six groups, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Each subject carries an internal assessment marked by the school and moderated by the IB. The jump from IGCSE is less about content than about command terms: evaluate and to what extent replace state and describe, and marks follow the reasoning rather than the final answer.

Sharjah has only a small number of IB World Schools, so many families on the Diploma route commute into Dubai or Ajman for school. That commute is why an IB Diploma Programme tutor in Sharjah is usually booked at 18:00 or later, and why a DP1 student who takes a 17:00 slot in September has normally given it up by half term. The weekend morning block is the more durable choice.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups, each assessed against four criteria scored 1-8 rather than as a percentage, then converted to a 1-7 grade through published boundaries. Parents arriving from an Indian or British system often read a 5 as a near-failure; it is not. The Personal Project in the final year is the first piece of long-form independent work most students meet.

MYP families in Sharjah usually hear how the 1-8 scale works once, at a parents' evening, and never see a worked conversion. Putting the criterion descriptors next to your child's own submitted task is the quickest way to make a report readable, and it is the earliest warning you will get before a Year 11 board entry and tier are fixed.

CHECKPOINTAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary and Checkpoint

The three years before an IGCSE entry, ending in optional Checkpoint tests in English, maths and science. Cambridge runs Checkpoint in March, May and October, which makes it the only externally marked snapshot most students get before Year 10. The results are diagnostic rather than certificated, and they are the cheapest hour of real information a Year 9 parent can get.

Sharjah schools treat Checkpoint very differently: some enter whole cohorts, some skip it entirely. If your child's school enters them, the October window gives you a board-marked baseline a full year before the IGCSE Core and Extended tier decision is made. If it does not, a past Checkpoint paper marked inside a session does the same job at the same point in the year.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The codes matter. A tutor who has marked Cambridge 0620 Paper 4 knows where the six-mark organic questions give marks away; a tutor who knows only IGCSE chemistry does not. Each entry below names the Cambridge and Pearson codes and what the paper actually rewards.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended · Foundation and Higher

Extended 0580 is examined by a non-calculator Paper 2 and a calculator Paper 4; Core sits Papers 1 and 3. Most lost marks are method marks in multi-step questions where no working was written down, and exact-form answers surrendered to a rounded decimal.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606)

Single tier

Taken alongside 0580 Extended by students heading for Analysis and Approaches. Calculus, logarithms and trigonometric identities arrive a year early, and the usual failure is treating it as harder 0580 rather than as a different habit of proof and presentation.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Cambridge Extended candidates sit a multiple-choice paper, a theory paper and either the practical test or the alternative to practical. Electricity, moments and ray diagrams carry the most recoverable marks, usually lost on units and on describing a method rather than naming apparatus.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Mole calculations, electrolysis and the qualitative-analysis tables are where marks move fastest. The longer organic and industrial questions reward a named condition and a balanced equation; a general description of the process scores close to nothing.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended

A content-heavy syllabus where marks go to imprecise language: the water goes in, instead of osmosis down a water-potential gradient. Data questions on enzyme and transpiration experiments need a trend, a figure quoted from the graph, and a reason.

Co-ordinated and Combined Sciences (Cambridge 0654 / 0653)

Double and single award

Three sciences compressed into two awards or one. The content cut is not uniform, so a tutor working from the full 0620 or 0625 syllabus wastes a student's hours on material they will never be asked about. The syllabus document is the only reliable map.

First Language English (Cambridge 0500 / Pearson 4EA1)

Single tier

Directed writing and the extended response reward audience and form before vocabulary. Most lost marks sit in reading: a summary that paraphrases the passage instead of selecting the points the question actually asked for.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510 / 0511)

Core and Extended

A different syllabus from First Language English with a different mark scheme, often confused in Sharjah because the same department teaches both. Exercise-by-exercise timing is the usual fix; candidates overwrite the short tasks and run out of minutes for the longer ones.

Economics (Cambridge 0455 / Pearson 4EC1)

Single tier

Diagram accuracy is most of the game: axes labelled, the right curve shifted, the new equilibrium marked. Four-mark explain questions want a chain of reasoning, and the longer evaluations want a judgement that follows from what was actually written.

Business Studies (Cambridge 0450 / Pearson 4BS1)

Single tier

Application to the case-study business separates candidates. Generic answers about motivation or cash flow lose the application and evaluation marks even when the underlying theory is correct and well expressed.

Arabic (Cambridge 0508 and 0544)

First language and foreign language routes

Private schools in the UAE must teach Arabic alongside their licensed curriculum, and the first-language and foreign-language routes are genuinely different qualifications. Families moving between emirates sometimes discover mid-year that a child has been placed in the wrong stream.

Computer Science (Cambridge 0478)

Single tier

Paper 1 covers data representation and networks; Paper 2 covers algorithms and pseudocode. Students who code fluently in Python still lose marks writing pseudocode in the syllabus's own notation, which is the first thing worth drilling.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (IB DP)

HL and SL

The usual destination for a strong 0580 Extended or 0606 candidate. Paper 3 at Higher Level is an extended investigation worth a fifth of the grade, and it rewards a student who can carry a proof through rather than one who recalls results.

Chemistry (IB DP)

HL and SL

The internal assessment is a single scientific investigation marked on the published criteria. Students arriving from 0620 underestimate how much of the mark sits in evaluating method and uncertainty rather than in getting a clean result.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Sharjah families use these sessions, and what each is actually for. None of them is a group class, and none of them involves a tutor travelling to an address.

Weekly one-to-one on video

One subject, sixty or ninety minutes, the same tutor each week at a fixed Gulf Standard Time slot. The hour is split three ways: a timed question under exam conditions, then the marking walked through on screen, then the week's single instruction. Across a term this produces the file of marked scripts that makes grade movement visible rather than merely asserted.

  • Same tutor, same slot, booked a term at a time
  • Timed question first, marking second, instruction last
  • Scanned and annotated scripts shared back after each session
  • Rescheduling at no charge up to a stated cut-off

Pre-series marking block

A short, intense block in the eight weeks before a February, May or November series. Rather than teaching content, the tutor works through whole past papers and reports the mark distribution by question type. IGCSE past paper marking at this stage usually shows that one paper, not the whole subject, is holding the grade down.

  • Whole papers marked to the published mark scheme
  • Mark breakdown by question type, not a single percentage
  • Timing data showing where the candidate ran out of minutes
  • A revision order set by the marks rather than by syllabus order

Two subjects in one evening

Common in Abu Shagara and Samnan, where two children or two subjects share the same window. Sessions run consecutively rather than together, so neither child sits through the other's work, and both tutors write into one weekly note so a parent reads a single summary instead of two.

  • Consecutive slots, never a shared lesson
  • One combined weekly note across both subjects
  • A separate specialist for each subject and board
  • Useful when a sibling pair sits different boards

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Sharjah

01

What a proximity search returns, and what it cannot verify

  • Distance is verified; board specialism, permit status and marking record are not
  • The syllabus code on the entry confirmation is the single most useful fact you hold
  • Ask what arrives after each session before you ask what it costs
  • Agree in advance what happens if six weeks of marked work shows no movement

Type the phrase into Google from a Sharjah address and you get a map pack, a handful of directory listings, and agency pages telling you a tutor is eleven kilometres away. That distance is the only genuinely verified fact on the screen. The board, the syllabus code, the tier, the permit and the marking record are all self-reported. Of the pages ranking for queries like this one, three in six publish no price at all, and the one competitor rate panel found in the research was close to two years out of date.

The checkable facts sit elsewhere. A tutor's right to give private lessons in the UAE is a permit question, answered by MoHRE. A school's curriculum and assessment methods are approved by the Sharjah Private Education Authority within this emirate. The grade scales and paper structures are published by Cambridge International and by Pearson. Every one of those can be read from a primary source in a few minutes, and not one of them appears anywhere on a map.

That turns the search into a shorter list of questions. Which board and which code is my child entered for? Has this tutor marked that paper to that scheme this year? What arrives after each session, and when? What happens if nothing has moved in six weeks? A tutor who answers those four in specifics is a better bet than one eleven kilometres away who answers none of them, and the four questions take about ten minutes to ask.

02

Cambridge or Pearson: one subject, two different papers

Sharjah schools are split between Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel, and some are split within themselves by subject. The two are not interchangeable. Cambridge reports international IGCSE results as A*-G and tiers maths and the sciences into Core and Extended. Pearson's International GCSE reports on the 9-1 scale and tiers maths into Foundation and Higher. A student practising the wrong paper is practising a different examination with a different mark scheme, and the hours spent doing it do not transfer cleanly.

The practical differences compound. Cambridge Extended sciences sit a multiple-choice paper, a theory paper, and either a practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper, so laboratory technique is examined directly. Pearson's International GCSE sciences are assessed through written papers, which changes what preparation looks like in the final eight weeks. Pearson also offers modular assessment in some subjects, letting a candidate bank a unit, while a Cambridge entry is linear within its series. Those choices change how a revision plan is sequenced, not just what is revised.

The table below is the version worth taking to your school's exams officer. The codes in it are the ones printed on an entry confirmation, and they are what any tutor should be asked about by name. The useful question is not whether somebody teaches IGCSE physics. It is whether they have marked 4PH1 Paper 1P or 0625 Paper 4 within the current academic year, and what the last candidate they marked lost marks on.

Where IGCSE marks are actually lost, paper by paper

  • Method marks lost to missing working on multi-step maths questions
  • Exact-form answers surrendered to a rounded decimal on non-calculator papers
  • Suggest questions answered with recall instead of applied principle
  • Summaries that paraphrase the passage instead of selecting the required points

In maths the losses are structural rather than mysterious. On 0580 Paper 2, the non-calculator Extended paper, candidates who can do the arithmetic lose method marks by not writing the middle line, then lose accuracy marks by rounding an answer the question wanted in exact form. Multi-step questions are where a grade is won: four marks for a correct chain, one mark for a correct answer with no visible chain. A marked script shows this immediately, and the fix is a habit rather than a topic.

In the sciences the losses are linguistic. State wants a bare fact and nothing more. Describe wants what happens, in order. Explain wants a because. Suggest wants an application of principle to an unfamiliar context, and it is the command word Sharjah candidates most often answer with recall. Units and significant figures take the rest, and in practical questions the marks go to naming a variable and describing how it is controlled, not to listing apparatus. Each of these is diagnosable from one marked paper.

In English, economics and business studies the losses live in the question stem. A summary task that paraphrases a passage rather than selecting the points asked for scores low however well it is written. An eight-mark evaluation that lists arguments without reaching a judgement caps itself. A business answer that never names the case-study firm loses the application marks. None of this is about ability, and all of it is visible in the first marked paper, which is why the first session is a timed question rather than a lesson.

04

Counting backwards from a Cambridge series

Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level examinations in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. Those are the only two sittings open to a candidate at a Sharjah centre: the February and March series is run for India, and a timetable built on it describes somebody else's school year. Counted backwards from June, the real deadlines sit a long way ahead of the papers. Final entries close in the spring, roughly four months before the first paper, on a date the centre prints on the statement of entry. Forecast grades follow weeks before the papers. Results reach Cambridge Direct in August, and certificates arrive at the centre after that. The November series repeats the same pattern half a year round and is the route a retake takes.

Two administrative details catch families out. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and the exams officer must use the timetable version for that zone; Cambridge states that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination because the wrong version was used. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May or June and in November, with the November 2026 final timetable running to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August and students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

Read backwards, those dates set the plan. Entry closes months before the paper, so a tier or subject change is a November conversation, not a January one. Forecast grades fall due a week before the exams, which is why marked papers from the preceding block matter so much. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, so always open the live official PDF rather than trusting a restated date. For IB sessions this page gives no dates at all: confirm them with your school's IB coordinator and with ibo.org.

The evidence file: what twelve weeks of marked work should show

A tutoring arrangement should produce a paper trail that a parent can read without being in the room. The unit of that trail is not a progress report. It is the student's own script, marked part by part against the published scheme, with the mark for each part written in and a short note where a mark was withheld. Three of those, four weeks apart, tell you more than a term of reassurance, because they let you compare like with like instead of comparing impressions.

What the file should let you see is movement in a specific place. If week two shows four marks lost to missing method and week six shows one, the habit is changing. If both show the same pattern, the plan is wrong and more hours will not fix it. That is the honest and uncomfortable part: a review at six weeks sometimes concludes that the subject, the tier or the tutor needs to change. Saying so early is cheaper for a family than discovering it after a forecast grade is submitted.

What the file should not contain is a satisfaction score, a star rating or a percentage improvement figure with no method behind it. Numbers of that kind are everywhere in this market and they are unverifiable by design. The research behind these pages found competitors publishing two different review averages on one page and a self-asserted rating in schema that did not match the visible figure. A marked script cannot be manufactured in the same way, which is exactly why it is the thing worth asking for.

WHAT ARRIVES, WEEK BY WEEK, AND WHAT IT SHOULD LET YOU CONCLUDE
Point in the blockWhat is markedWhat you receiveWhat it should let you conclude

06

Drafts, feedback and the line a tutor does not cross

Every assessed piece a student submits has to be the student's own. That applies to an IGCSE coursework component, to an IB internal assessment, to the Extended Essay and to the Personal Project. A tutor may read a draft, name the criterion a section fails to meet, ask the questions that expose a missing step, and teach the skill that closes it. A tutor may not supply sentences, restructure the argument, or hand back a version the student did not produce. That boundary is not a matter of taste.

In practice a legitimate session looks slower than families expect. The criterion descriptors are read aloud. The student is asked which descriptor their paragraph currently meets, and why. The tutor points at the gap rather than filling it, and the student rewrites between sessions. What that leaves behind is a dated trail: the student's draft, the comments on it, and the student's own revision. If a family is ever asked by a school to show how support was given, that trail is the answer, and it is also the only version a board will accept.

The reason to be explicit about this is that the market is not. The competitor research behind these pages found a site selling completed internal assessments at a fixed price. A student who submits bought work faces a malpractice finding, and the consequence lands on the student rather than on the seller. No IB Gram tutor supplies assessed work, and none distributes past papers, mark schemes or syllabus documents as downloads; those are published by the boards and should be read from the boards' own sites.

07

SPEA licenses the school, MoHRE licenses the tutor

The regulator map is simple once you see it written down, and almost nobody in this market writes it down. The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in this emirate, and in Sharjah the authority also approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. Dubai schools answer to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain answer to the Department of Education and Knowledge. Ras Al Khaimah has its own Department of Knowledge, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

Individual tutoring is a federal matter rather than an emirate one. Private tuition runs on a work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered at government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. The MoHRE service is listed as private tutor licensing, shows no fee, states a two-working-day completion time, and is applied for through the ministry's smart app, website and e-services system.

Two cautions follow from that. Individuals giving private lessons without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no schedule of amounts has been published, so any figure you see quoted should be treated as unverified. And a tutoring operation with premises and staff is a different legal animal again, needing an educational-services permit from the relevant emirate authority. IB Gram holds no regulator accreditation and claims none; a page that advertises tutors as approved by KHDA or by SPEA is making a claim you should ask it to evidence.

08

Five IGCSE grades, and what the Ministry actually counts

Certificate equivalency is the gap in this market that costs families the most and gets written about the least. On the British track, a student must show proof of five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, together with either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no lower than E or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects.

The American track is built differently, on test thresholds rather than subject counts. English proficiency is shown by a score of 5 in the academic IELTS, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT; mathematics requires at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. The sourced reporting on these rules names no EmSAT requirement and states no IB points threshold, so MoE equivalency for IGCSE students is covered here while no IB figure is published on this page at all.

Three practical consequences. Subject choice in Year 10 is also an equivalency decision, because the five counted subjects exclude two of the ones a UAE school requires anyway. A page currently ranking in this market states that UAE candidates need six IGCSE subjects, which is one more than the sourced rule, so check the authority rather than the agency. And nobody should tell you that tutoring is required for equivalency: the process belongs to the Ministry and the emirate attestation channel, IB Gram does not perform it, and it is not something a tutor can accelerate.

Where we tutor

Where Sharjah families book from, and what the evening actually looks like

Sharjah is not one timetable. The emirate runs from the Dubai border to the Gulf of Oman, and a 17:00 slot is realistic in some of these places and fiction in others. These notes are about when a session can start and which board tends to dominate locally.

Al Nahda

A Dubai-border district where a large share of children attend schools in Al Qusais, Mirdif and Al Nahda Dubai. Pick-up plus the evening queue on Ittihad Road usually rules out anything before 17:45, so IGCSE tuition in Al Nahda tends to settle at 18:00.

Abu Shagara

Dense central district with Indian-curriculum and IGCSE cohorts sitting in the same buildings. Requests here cluster on 0580 maths and 0610 biology, and very often on two children in the same evening at two different levels.

Al Yarmook

Older central Sharjah with a short school run and the earliest realistic start times in the emirate, from around 16:30. That suits a Year 11 student who does better on two shorter sessions a week than on one long one.

Muwaileh

The airport-road school cluster, with several British-curriculum schools within minutes of each other. Cambridge entries dominate, and the request pattern skews to Extended tier rather than Core, particularly in the sciences.

University City

Sharjah's higher-education corridor, where many parents teach or study themselves. The questions from this area are more often about certificate equivalency and university entry than about this term's grade.

Samnan

A residential pocket with no large international school of its own, so children scatter across three or four catchments. Sibling sessions at different levels on the same evening are the normal booking shape here.

Al Rahmaniya

Newer villa community towards the Dubai bypass, with school runs that often cross the emirate border. Later weekday starts, and a strong preference for a weekend morning block in the weeks before a February or May series.

Al Dhaid, Kalba and Khor Fakkan

Inland and east-coast Sharjah, where the local pool of IGCSE subject specialists is thin to non-existent. Video delivery is not a compromise in these towns; it is the only way a Paper 4 specialist is reachable at all.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Sharjah

Muwaileh, University City and the airport-road corridor

The densest concentration of British and American curriculum provision in the emirate, and the part of Sharjah where Cambridge entries are most common. Sessions here can start earlier than on the Dubai border, because the school run is measured in minutes rather than in motorway queues.

Schools are named only as context for the curricula and exam boards families in these areas actually sit; IB Gram has no affiliation with, or endorsement from, any school listed here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the entry details, not just the subject

Tell us the subject, the board and the syllabus code from the school's entry confirmation, plus the year group and the series you are aiming at. If you do not have the code, the exams officer does, and a screenshot of the entry is enough. That one piece of information decides which specialist is the right match.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson, built around a timed question

One hour, one-to-one on video, at a Gulf Standard Time slot you choose. The tutor sets a timed question from the live syllabus, marks it on screen against the published scheme, and sends a written diagnostic afterwards. Nothing is paid before you have read that diagnostic and decided what it tells you.

  3. 03

Fix the slot, then agree the first six weeks

Choose a weekly time that survives the school run rather than the one that looks tidy on paper. Then agree what will be marked in each of the first six weeks. The plan names papers and question types rather than topics in syllabus order, so progress is measured against something specific and checkable.

  4. 04

Review at six weeks on the marked file

Lay the scripts side by side and read the mark breakdown rather than the commentary. If the same command word is still costing marks, the plan changes: a different question type, a different pace, or a different tutor. Changing tutor costs nothing and is a normal outcome rather than a complaint.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Marked against the published scheme, every time

Work comes back with the part marks written in and the scheme's own wording beside them. That makes a disagreement about a grade an argument about a specific mark, which is a conversation worth having, rather than an argument about effort, which is not.

Board and code, not a general subject label

Matching starts from the syllabus code on the entry, because 0625 and 4PH1 are different examinations. A tutor is proposed for the paper your child actually sits, and if the specialist for that paper is not free, we say so instead of substituting quietly.

A permit question you can check yourself

Private tuition in the UAE runs on a MoHRE work permit issued free of charge for two years under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. We tell you what to ask for and where the official application route sits, rather than waving at a licence we do not hold.

Delivery stated before you book, not after

Sessions are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and IB Gram does not sell in-person tuition in Sharjah, however busy that market is. Knowing the delivery format in the first paragraph of a page is worth more than discovering it on a call.

No figure we cannot point to a source for

Rate bands on these pages are market figures attributed to published sources with the date they were read. Exam dates come from the boards' own key-date documents. Where a number is unverified, including every IB session date, this page says so and tells you where to check.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Sharjah: your questions answered

Which IGCSE exam board is my child's Sharjah school actually entering them for?+

Ask the exams officer for the entry confirmation rather than asking the department. It carries a syllabus code: four digits for Cambridge, such as 0580 for maths or 0620 for chemistry, and a code like 4MA1 or 4CH1 for Pearson Edexcel International GCSE. Schools in Sharjah sometimes split boards by subject, so one child can sit Cambridge maths and Pearson physics in the same series. The code also tells you the tier, which sets the grade ceiling. Bring that code to any tutor you are considering and ask whether they have marked that specific paper this academic year.

How do I find out whether my child is sitting Core or Extended IGCSE maths?+

It is printed on the entry, and the school usually decides it during Year 10 on the strength of internal assessment. Cambridge 0580 Core is examined by Papers 1 and 3 and caps the grade available; Extended sits Papers 2 and 4 and reaches the top grades. Pearson's equivalent split on 4MA1 is Foundation and Higher. The tier matters more than almost anything else a parent can influence, because a student placed on Core cannot reach a grade the Diploma or A-Level route may later require. If the tier looks wrong, ask for the evidence behind it and when it can be reviewed.

What does a marked past paper show that a school report does not?+

A report gives you a letter or a number and a sentence of comment. A marked past paper gives you the part marks: which step in a four-mark method was credited, which command word was answered with the wrong kind of sentence, which units went missing. Two students on the same reported grade usually lose their marks in completely different places, and only one of those problems is solved by more content revision. The script also carries timing evidence, because you can see how far through the paper the handwriting changes, and that is often the real cause.

Is it too late to start in December for a February exam series?+

No, but the plan has to change shape. With eight weeks or fewer, teaching new content rarely pays for itself, while marking whole papers almost always does. A pre-series block marks complete past papers to the published scheme and reports marks by question type, which usually reveals that one paper rather than the whole subject is holding the grade down. That becomes the revision order for the remaining weeks. What a short block cannot do is undo two years of gaps, and anybody suggesting otherwise should be asked how.

Can the same tutor handle both Cambridge and Pearson papers in one subject?+

Some can, and it is a fair question to put directly. The content overlaps heavily, but the papers, the mark schemes and the grade scales do not, and the modular option Pearson offers in some subjects changes how a year is sequenced. What matters is recent marking experience on the exact code your child is entered for. If a tutor has marked 0625 Paper 4 all term but has not seen 4PH1 Paper 1P, the honest answer is to say so and hand the match to the other specialist.

How many whole papers should my child have sat before the final series?+

There is no single correct number, but a useful floor is two complete papers per subject under timed conditions before the mocks, and three or four more inside the pre-series block. Volume is not the point. The point is that each paper is marked part by part and compared against the one before it, so that genuine movement can be separated from normal variation between papers. One paper tells you very little; four marked papers across eight weeks tell you whether a plan is working.

My child is in Year 11 in Sharjah and heading for the IB Diploma. What should we fix first?+

Command terms and written method, well before content. An IGCSE answer that states a correct result often scores full marks, while a Diploma answer that states a correct result without reasoning frequently does not. Students arriving in DP1 from 0580 Extended also meet Paper 3 at Higher Level, an extended investigation where marks follow a sustained argument rather than a recalled result. Spending the Year 11 summer on how an answer is constructed, using the IB's own command terms, is worth more than pre-reading the first topic of the new course.

How are IGCSE science practicals handled if the tutoring is on video?+

The practical assessment belongs to the school and the board, not to a tutor. Cambridge Extended candidates sit either a practical test paper or an alternative-to-practical paper, and both examine the same skills: describing a method precisely, identifying and controlling variables, reading a scale, and spotting a source of error. Those are written skills, and they are coachable on screen with the student's own lab notes and past questions open in front of you both. Handling apparatus cannot be replicated remotely, and that part remains the school's job.

What grades does the Ministry of Education count for secondary certificate equivalency?+

On the British track a student must show five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no lower than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among those five. The American track works differently, on SAT and English-test thresholds. No IB points figure appears here because the sourced reporting gives none, so check moe.gov.ae or your emirate's attestation channel before relying on a number from anywhere else.

Do Arabic and Islamic Education count towards the five subjects the Ministry requires?+

They do not. The equivalency rule reported for the British track excludes Arabic and Islamic education from the five accredited subjects a student must show. That does not make them optional at school: private schools in the UAE must teach Arabic, social studies and Islamic studies alongside their licensed curriculum, and in Dubai the authority calculates instructional time on a forty-minute lesson unit and requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students. The two rules answer different questions, one about school compliance and one about certificate recognition.

How do I check that a private tutor in the UAE actually holds a permit?+

Ask, and expect a specific answer rather than a reassurance. Private tuition in the UAE runs on a work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and issued through MoHRE free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered at government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. The ministry's own service page states a two-working-day completion time and lists no fee. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws.

What can a tutor do with a coursework draft, and what is off limits?+

A tutor may read a draft, name the criterion a section fails to meet, ask the questions that expose a missing step, and teach the skill that closes it. A tutor may not supply sentences, restructure the argument, or return a version the student did not produce. The boundary is not a style preference: boards treat work that is not the student's own as malpractice, and the consequence lands on the student. Anything you receive should leave a dated trail showing the student's own revisions between sessions.

We commute from Al Rahmaniya into Dubai for school. What time should a session start?+

Later than most families first book. A Sharjah to Dubai school run in the afternoon peak routinely swallows an hour, and a 17:00 slot chosen in September is usually abandoned by half term. Families on the Dubai side of the emirate tend to settle at 18:00 or 18:30 on weekday evenings and move the heavier marked-paper work to a weekend morning block. Ninety minutes is the sensible ceiling for a single subject, because a tired student at 19:30 produces marks that tell you nothing useful.

Does SPEA regulate tutoring companies as well as Sharjah schools?+

The Sharjah Private Education Authority regulates private education in the emirate, and in Sharjah the authority also approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods for private schools. Individual private tutoring sits elsewhere, as a federal MoHRE permit matter. A tutoring operation with premises and staff is a third thing again, needing an educational-services permit from the relevant emirate authority. IB Gram holds no regulator accreditation of any kind and does not claim one; what it can show you is marked work and a tutor's permit status.

What should the first written diagnostic actually contain?+

Three things, in specific language. The topic gaps, named by syllabus section rather than as algebra or organic chemistry. The command words the student answered with the wrong kind of sentence, quoted from their own script. And a first six-week plan naming papers and question types rather than topics in syllabus order. If a diagnostic reads mainly as a description of your child's attitude and potential, it is a sales document rather than an assessment, and you should ask to see the marked script behind it.

Start with one marked paper

If you take one thing from this page, make it the syllabus code. Get it from your school's exams officer, then book a free trial lesson and watch somebody mark a timed question from that exact paper against the published scheme. An hour later you will have a written diagnostic naming the topic gaps and the command words costing marks, and you will know whether online IGCSE tuition in Sharjah is answering a real problem or a vague worry. Sessions run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and the decision to continue sits with you after you have read the evidence rather than before.
