IB DP Psychology Tutor in Ras Al Khaimah

Looking for an IB DP Psychology tutor in Ras Al Khaimah usually means one specific problem: the school runs the course, the Department of Knowledge has approved the programme, the IB sets the papers, and there is no second Psychology specialist in the emirate to ask when Paper 1 marks stop moving. IB Gram matches your child with a Diploma Psychology specialist and teaches one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, starting with a free trial lesson.

  • Paper 1 is 50% of the Standard Level grade and 40% at Higher Level
  • The experimental study carries 22 marks across four lettered criteria
  • Lessons run one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time
  • Sessions work from your child's own marked scripts, not a workbook

IB & IGCSE in Ras Al Khaimah

Psychology in a small emirate, where there is rarely a second specialist to ask

Ras Al Khaimah has a compact private-school sector. The campuses that matter for the Diploma sit in three pockets — Al Hamra on the southern coast, Khuzam and Al Nakheel on the city side, and the newer coastal communities at Mina Al Arab and Al Marjan Island. A family in Dubai with a Psychology problem can usually find a second subject teacher within twenty minutes. A family here often cannot find one in the emirate at all, because the course may be taught by a single teacher who also covers another group three subject.

That is the practical reason this page exists. Psychology is a subject where the content is not the hard part. Students learn the biological, cognitive and sociocultural approaches without much trouble, remember a reasonable number of studies, and then score in the middle band because of how the answer is built rather than what it contains. A nine-mark short-answer question that describes a study without using it as evidence earns four or five. A 22-mark essay that explains three theories and evaluates none earns a mark in the low teens. Neither problem is fixed by revising harder.

The second reason is structural. Standard Level and Higher Level Psychology are not the same course with a different amount of reading. Higher Level students sit a third paper on research methodology, answer two option essays instead of one, and are expected to fold the Higher Level extension content into Paper 1 answers. If your child moved level after the first term, or joined the course late after a move into Ras Al Khaimah, those are the gaps that appear in a mock and not in a lesson.

Everything on this page is written against this emirate specifically. Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge, not KHDA and not ADEK, regulates private education here, and its remit includes approving the curricula, programmes, courses and assessment methods a school runs. That changes which questions are worth asking the school, and which are not. The exam calendar, the Arabic and Islamic Education load alongside the Diploma, and the equivalency route to a UAE university all sit on top of that.

IB Gram does not run a centre in Ras Al Khaimah and does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE — that is an India-only service. Lessons here are one-to-one and online, over live video, with past-paper scripts shared on screen and annotated live. The honest case for that model in this emirate is simple: your child gets a Psychology specialist instead of whoever happens to live within a half-hour drive of Al Dhait. The first lesson is free, it runs on a script your child has already had marked, and it should end with a named problem rather than a general impression of how things are going. If no specialist is free in the window you need, we say so and give you a date instead of filling the slot with somebody who has never marked a 22-mark Psychology essay.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Psychology is a Diploma subject, but the students who search for it arrive from three different places: a Middle Years Programme individuals-and-societies class, an IGCSE in a neighbouring subject, or straight into Diploma year one from a different system. Each arrival point leaves a different gap.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Psychology sits in group three, individuals and societies. Standard Level students sit two papers and submit an experimental study; Higher Level students sit three papers, answer two option essays and carry the Higher Level extension content into Paper 1. The written work is assessed against criteria rather than a mark scheme of correct answers, which is why two students with the same knowledge can be two grades apart.

Diploma Psychology cohorts in Ras Al Khaimah are small. A set of eight or ten is normal, which means no parallel class to compare marks against and often no second teacher who has examined the subject. Where a school runs only one Paper 2 option, a student who dislikes it has no alternative on the timetable.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Individuals and societies in the Middle Years Programme is assessed on four criteria, with knowledge and understanding sitting alongside investigating, communicating and critical thinking. A student who scored well on criterion A and poorly on criterion D arrives in Diploma Psychology already carrying the weakness that costs marks in the 22-mark essay.

Two Ras Al Khaimah campuses run the Middle Years Programme through to year five, and families moving in from the Indian or British streams often join part-way. The usual consequence for a future Psychology student is that research methods have never been taught as a named topic, only as something done inside a project.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE pathway into the Diploma

Several Ras Al Khaimah schools run Cambridge or Pearson IGCSE to year eleven and then offer the Diploma. There is no IGCSE Psychology in most of these timetables, so a student picking it up in Diploma year one is meeting the subject for the first time while also meeting criterion-based assessment for the first time.

The transition that bites hardest here is statistical. IGCSE Mathematics covers mean, median and range; the experimental study expects a student to choose and justify a measure of central tendency and a measure of dispersion, and to say what the data cannot show. That is a six-week gap, not a lesson.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Most Ras Al Khaimah students who need Psychology support need it alongside two or three other Diploma subjects. The pairings below are the ones that recur here, and each creates a different competition for the same revision hours.

Psychology

HL and SL

Three approaches, one or two Paper 2 options, research methodology at Higher Level and a 22-mark experimental study. Marks are lost in evaluation and in the use of a study as evidence rather than as a story.

Biology

HL and SL

The common pairing in Ras Al Khaimah, because the biological approach to behaviour overlaps the nervous system content. Students confuse the two registers: Biology wants mechanism, Psychology wants the study that established the mechanism.

Business Management

HL and SL

Often the second group three subject on the timetable, so a school's single humanities teacher may cover both. The written styles differ sharply: Business rewards applied tools, Psychology rewards contested evidence.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The statistics content here directly serves the experimental study. Students who sit Analysis and Approaches instead often have stronger algebra and weaker descriptive statistics, which shows in criterion C.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The Psychology essay and the English comparative essay reward different things. A student trained to write elegantly about texts will often over-write a Psychology answer and lose marks for undeveloped critical thinking.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Taken by Ras Al Khaimah students aiming at medicine or pharmacy at the local universities. The experimental discipline transfers well to the experimental study, including the habit of naming a control.

Geography

HL and SL

Shares the command-term vocabulary with Psychology, so 'examine' and 'to what extent' behave similarly. The fieldwork write-up is useful rehearsal for the structure of a results and evaluation section.

Arabic B

HL and SL

Common here as the second language, and the paired workload is the real issue: oral preparation tends to land in the same weeks as the experimental study deadline.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

Psychology supplies some of the strongest Theory of Knowledge material a student will meet, particularly on replication and on what counts as evidence in a human science. Students rarely notice this without prompting.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats are in genuine use for Diploma Psychology in this emirate. The third one is the honest limit of what we do, and saying so is more useful than implying unlimited availability.

Weekly one-to-one over live video

A fixed slot each week on Gulf Standard Time, built around whatever the school is teaching. The tutor works from your child's own returned script on a shared screen, marking live against the published criteria rather than talking through a slide deck.

  • Your child's marked Paper 1 answers annotated in the session
  • One command term dismantled per week until the shape is automatic
  • A short written note after each session saying what moved and what did not
  • Recording available for the student to re-watch before a mock

Experimental study clinic blocks

Short intensive blocks timed to the school's internal deadlines rather than spread across the year. The focus is the four lettered criteria and the places students lose marks inside them, particularly the evaluation criterion, which is where lists replace argument.

  • Design feasibility checked before data collection, not after
  • Statistical choices justified rather than copied from a classmate
  • Feedback on the student's own draft, with the writing left to the student
  • A word-budget plan that keeps the report inside 2,200 words

Pre-examination essay sprints

A run of sessions in the weeks before the May papers aimed only at the 22-mark essay and the Paper 3 short answers. Nothing new is taught; the work is converting existing knowledge into the answer shape the criteria reward.

  • Timed 22-mark essays written and marked inside the hour
  • Paper 3 practice on unseen qualitative studies, the part nobody timetables
  • Higher Level extension content folded into Paper 1 answers deliberately
  • A one-page personal list of the errors that keep recurring

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Ras Al Khaimah

The tutors below teach Diploma Psychology rather than general social science. That distinction matters for a short-answer question marked out of nine and for an essay marked against a critical-thinking strand, because both reward a shape a non-specialist rarely teaches.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Ras Al Khaimah

01

What the Department of Knowledge decides, and what it does not

Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge regulates private education in the emirate. The federal portal is specific about the extent of that remit: Ras Al Khaimah's authority, like Sharjah's, approves tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. That is a broader power than inspection alone, and it is worth knowing before you ask the school a question it cannot answer.

What this means practically is a division of labour. The Department of Knowledge approves that your child's school may run the Diploma Programme and sets the envelope of fees and programmes. The IB sets the Psychology syllabus, writes Paper 1, Paper 2 and Paper 3, publishes the experimental study criteria and awards the grade. No emirate regulator in the UAE marks an IB paper or adjusts an IB grade boundary. Parents sometimes arrive believing that a complaint to the regulator can change a predicted grade; it cannot, and the route for that sits inside the school and then with the IB.

Where the regulator does matter to a Psychology family is in the programme list. If the school is licensed to run the Diploma but chooses to offer only one Paper 2 option, that is a school staffing decision, not a regulatory one, and it is reversible by the school. Asking the Diploma coordinator which options are timetabled for the coming year, in writing, before option sheets are returned, is the single most useful thing a parent in this emirate can do.

Private tutoring sits under a separate federal regime. An individual giving paid private lessons in the UAE needs the MoHRE private tuition work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and those tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published. Ask anyone you engage whether they hold it.

The papers, the weightings, and where each one leaks marks

A Diploma Psychology grade is built from three or four components depending on level, and they do not reward the same behaviour. Standard Level is Paper 1 at 50%, Paper 2 at 25% and the experimental study at 25%. Higher Level is Paper 1 at 40%, Paper 2 at 20%, Paper 3 at 20% and the experimental study at 20%. The practical consequence is that a Standard Level student who neglects Paper 1 has thrown away half the grade, while a Higher Level student has four separate things to be competent at.

Paper 1 has two parts that behave completely differently. Section A is three short-answer questions, one each on the biological, cognitive and sociocultural approaches, marked out of nine. Section B is one essay chosen from three, marked out of 22. Most students who stall are competent at Section A and weak at Section B, or the reverse, and they revise as though it were one skill. It is not: nine marks reward compression and precision, 22 marks reward sustained argument with evaluation threaded through it.

Paper 2 is the option paper. Standard Level students answer one 22-mark essay from the option their school teaches; Higher Level students answer two, usually from two taught options. The most common waste of revision time in this emirate is a student revising all four options because a purchased revision guide covers all four. Establish which ones are taught and ignore the rest.

Paper 3 exists only at Higher Level and is the component most often under-taught in a small school. It presents an unseen piece of qualitative research and asks short questions about method, sampling, credibility and generalisation. There is no content to memorise, which makes it feel unrevisable, and so it gets skipped. It is 20% of a Higher Level grade.

Nine marks: the short-answer question and the shape that earns it

  • One paragraph of relevant knowledge, stated plainly and without preamble
  • One study with participants, procedure and finding specific enough to be identifiable
  • One explicit sentence linking the evidence to the exact wording of the question
  • Command term read first; paragraph budget set before writing begins

The nine-mark short-answer question is the most teachable thing in Diploma Psychology and the most reliably mishandled. Students write what they know about the topic, in the order they learned it, and stop when they run out. Markers are looking for a different thing: a clear statement of the relevant psychological knowledge, one study used as evidence with enough method detail to make the evidence stand up, and an explicit link back to the question asked.

The commonest failure in scripts from this emirate is study detail without study function. A student writes that a named researcher studied a group of participants over a period of years and found a correlation. That is a summary, not evidence. What the mark scheme rewards is the participant group, the procedure in enough specificity that a reader could tell it apart from a similar study, the finding, and then the sentence that almost nobody writes: therefore this supports the claim in the question because of this particular feature of the design.

The second failure is the command term. 'Describe' does not want evaluation and gains nothing from it. 'Explain' wants a mechanism. 'Outline' wants brevity and is often answered at triple the necessary length, which costs time in the rest of the paper rather than marks here. Students who learn to read the command term first and allocate three paragraphs accordingly usually move a band inside a month, because the knowledge was already present.

In lessons this is done on your child's own returned scripts. A tutor marks the answer live against the criteria, shows where a sentence earned nothing, and rewrites one paragraph with the student rather than for them. Three or four cycles of that is normally enough; a student who has seen their own answer taken apart twice starts doing it themselves before submitting.

04

Twenty-two marks: what 'discuss', 'evaluate' and 'to what extent' actually require

The 22-mark essay appears in Paper 1 Section B and again in Paper 2, and it is where Psychology grades are decided. It is assessed on separate strands rather than as a single impression: the focus on the question, the knowledge and understanding shown, the use of research as support, and critical thinking. A student can be strong on three and weak on one and sit two grades below where their knowledge suggests.

Critical thinking is the strand that costs the most. It is not a paragraph added at the end headed 'evaluation'. It is methodological comment woven into the argument — the sample was small and culturally narrow, so the generalisation the question invites is weaker than it looks; the study was correlational, so the causal claim is unsupported; the measure was self-report, so demand characteristics are a live concern. Each of those is a sentence, placed where the evidence was introduced, and each one earns.

The command terms behave differently and students treat them as synonyms. 'Discuss' expects a balanced review of several perspectives with no obligation to land anywhere. 'Evaluate' expects strengths and limitations and a judgement. 'To what extent' expects an explicit answer to the degree question — largely, partly, only under certain conditions — and loses marks when the essay simply describes two positions. 'Contrast' expects differences only, and an essay that helpfully supplies similarities has wasted a third of its words.

The practical method is to build two or three essay plans per option rather than memorising full essays. A plan carries the knowledge, the two studies, the three methodological comments and the judgement, and it can be redirected at whatever wording the paper uses. A memorised essay cannot, which is why students who revise that way often score worse on a question they recognise than on one they do not.

05

Choosing a Paper 2 option when the school only runs one

Four options sit on the Psychology syllabus: abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, health psychology and the psychology of human relationships. Standard Level students need one, Higher Level students two. In a cohort of eight or ten students, which is normal in Ras Al Khaimah, the school's choice is driven by who is available to teach it rather than by what suits the set.

That is not a scandal, but it has consequences worth naming. Abnormal psychology attracts students because the content is intrinsically interesting, and then punishes them because the essays require treatment evidence rather than treatment description. Human relationships is the easiest option to engage with and the easiest to answer badly, because everyday examples feel like evidence and are not. Health psychology suits a science-heavy cohort. Developmental psychology overlaps content already taught in the cognitive approach, which is why a teacher covering two subjects often picks it.

If your child's school runs one option and your child finds it unworkable, the realistic moves are limited. A second option cannot usually be added to a timetable mid-year. What can be done is to strengthen the option that exists, which generally means building the evidence base rather than the content knowledge — three or four studies per topic that the student can describe precisely and criticise properly, instead of twelve they half-remember.

For a Higher Level student with two options, there is a planning dividend most schools do not mention. Some studies serve both options and the approaches in Paper 1. A tutor who knows the syllabus can map a student's revision so that one well-learned study pays for itself three times over, which matters when the same student is also finishing an experimental study and a Theory of Knowledge essay.

THE FOUR PAPER 2 OPTIONS, AND THE TRAP IN EACH
OptionCore contentWhy a small school often picks itThe trap in the essay
Abnormal psychologyClassification, aetiology and treatment of disordersStrongest textbook support and immediate student interestTreatments described without the evidence that tests them

06

The experimental study: 22 marks, four criteria and a 2,200-word ceiling

The experimental study is the internal component, worth 25% at Standard Level and 20% at Higher Level, and it is marked out of 22 against four lettered criteria. Criterion A, introduction, carries six marks. Criterion B, exploration, carries four. Criterion C, analysis, carries six. Criterion D, evaluation, carries six. The report runs between 1,800 and 2,200 words. Students who know those numbers write to them; students who do not write 3,000 words of background and run out of space exactly where half the marks live.

Criterion A is where the replication logic has to be made explicit. The student is replicating a published study, and the introduction must explain the theory, explain the study being replicated, and state the aim and hypotheses in a way that follows from both. A report that opens with a general tour of the topic before arriving at the study has already lost marks that cannot be recovered later.

Criterion D is the single largest source of lost marks in this component. Students write a bulleted list of limitations — small sample, time pressure, participants were classmates — which reads as honest and earns very little. What the criterion rewards is a discussion of the design, the sample and the procedure that explains how each specific feature affected these particular results, and what a sensible modification would change. One properly developed paragraph outscores six bullet points.

What a tutor may and may not do here is fixed by IB academic honesty rules, and we are explicit about it because the Psychology SERP contains providers who are not. A tutor may teach the criteria, review a draft and give written feedback, challenge a design before data collection, and explain a statistical choice. A tutor may not supply a research question, collect or process the data, or contribute sentences to the report. The work has to be the student's own, and that is a line we hold rather than a disclaimer.

07

Paper 3 and the Higher Level content that gets left until April

  • Twelve research-methods terms, held precisely, cover most of Paper 3
  • Credibility, transferability and reflexivity are the terms most often missed
  • Each Higher Level extension topic needs one timed essay, not a reading
  • Paper 3 is 20% of a Higher Level grade and is routinely revised last

Paper 3 is the Higher Level research-methodology paper. The student is given an unseen piece of qualitative research — a short description of a study, its method, its sampling and some findings — and answers short questions on it. The questions are about the research, not about Psychology content, and no amount of revising the approaches prepares a student for them.

The vocabulary is the whole paper. Sampling method and why it was chosen. The difference between credibility and generalisability. Triangulation and what it actually fixes. Reflexivity and why it appears in qualitative work and not in an experiment. Inductive content analysis. Transferability as a replacement for statistical generalisation. A student who holds twelve terms precisely can answer Paper 3 on a topic they have never seen; a student who holds none cannot answer it on a topic they know well.

Higher Level extension content is the companion problem. The syllabus adds extension material to the approaches — the role of animal research in understanding human behaviour, cognitive processing in the digital world, the influence of globalisation on individual behaviour — and expects Higher Level students to use it inside Paper 1 answers. Because it sits in a separate part of the guide, it often gets taught late, read as background, and never written about. An examiner reading a Higher Level script that contains no extension material has no way to award for it.

The fix is unglamorous. Paper 3 becomes revisable the moment it is treated as a vocabulary and structure exercise rather than a content one, and the extension topics become examinable the moment a student has written one timed essay using each. Four sessions is typically enough for both, which is a good return on a component worth 20%.

What Psychology support costs in this market, and how lessons actually reach you

Published rates for one-to-one tuition in the UAE vary by a factor of ten, and almost no competitor page states any of them. The table below gives the bands that providers have published themselves, with the provider named, so you can see what a figure is and where it came from. These are market rates, not IB Gram's price list — our own quote follows the free trial lesson, because it depends on level, frequency and how close the deadline is.

Two features of this emirate push the in-home numbers upward rather than down. The first is distance: a tutor travelling from the city side to Al Marjan Island or Digdaga is absorbing an hour of unpaid driving, and that cost is inside the rate whether it is itemised or not. The second is supply. There is a reasonable pool of general tutors in Ras Al Khaimah and a very small pool of people who have taught Diploma Psychology to examination. Scarcity in a thin market does not produce a discount.

IB Gram does not operate a centre in Ras Al Khaimah and does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE; home tuition is a service we offer only in India. Lessons for families here are one-to-one and online, over live video, with the student's own scripts and drafts shared on screen. The argument for that is not cost, although it usually is cheaper. It is that your child gets a Psychology specialist who has marked these criteria, rather than the best available person who happens to live within a half-hour drive of your address.

If no Psychology specialist is free in the window you need, we say so rather than substituting a general humanities tutor and hoping. Where the subject is covered by a specialist outside the UAE, that is disclosed before any booking, along with what it means for timing. A thin local market is a fact about Ras Al Khaimah; concealing it would just move the disappointment to week three.

The Diploma year in Ras Al Khaimah, and the weeks that are already spoken for

Ras Al Khaimah's school year and the Diploma assessment year do not line up neatly, and the collisions are predictable enough to plan around. The experimental study internal deadline usually lands in the same term as the Theory of Knowledge essay and the Extended Essay final submission. Add Arabic and Islamic Education, which are mandatory in private schools across the UAE regardless of the licensed curriculum, and a Diploma student's week has less slack than the timetable suggests.

Ramadan moves the usable hours rather than removing them. School days shorten, energy in the late afternoon drops, and the productive window shifts to after Iftar. Families here routinely move a 5pm slot to 9pm for the month, and for Psychology that works better than it does for a practical science, because essay planning and script review need concentration rather than equipment. We schedule around it as a matter of course rather than treating it as an exception.

On dates, this page will not publish an IB examination or results date. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so every figure circulating for the May and November sessions is second-hand. UAE schools sit the May session; your child's Diploma coordinator holds the confirmed dates and the internal deadlines that matter more. The school-exam boards are more open: Pearson's International GCSE November 2026 timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, and Cambridge's UAE candidates sit a June series and a November series whose entries close months ahead of the papers rather than weeks. That gap between entry and paper is the useful lesson here, whatever the board, because the decisions that constrain a session are taken long before it begins.

Counting backwards is the planning habit worth adopting. If the papers are in May, the experimental study should be finished before the spring break, the essay-shape work should be automatic by February, Paper 3 vocabulary should be secure by March, and the final weeks should contain nothing but timed writing under conditions. Work out those four dates from your school's calendar in September, and the year stops being a series of surprises.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah is spread out. The drive from Al Marjan Island to a tutor living in Al Uraibi is not trivial at six in the evening, and it is the main reason families here reach a ceiling on in-home options. Each area below sets a different realistic session window.

Al Hamra and Al Hamra Village

The southern cluster, closest to the Diploma campuses. School transport unloads late enough that a 5.30pm start is more realistic than 4.30pm for a student travelling from here.

Mina Al Arab and Hayat Island

Newer villa and apartment communities with a young family profile. Internet is consistent across the development, so a screen-shared Paper 2 essay annotation works without the usual compromises.

Al Marjan Island

A long causeway commute to the city-side campuses. Diploma students living here lose the most time to travel, which is exactly what makes an online slot after dinner worth more than a visit.

Al Nakheel

Central, dense and close to the Indian-curriculum schools. Students here often take Psychology at a campus that does not offer the Higher Level option in the subject they would have preferred.

Al Dhait North and South

Established residential streets with a large teacher and public-sector population. The practical constraint here is a household with two shift patterns rather than connectivity.

Khuzam and Al Mairid

Walking distance from two of the older campuses, so mid-week late-afternoon slots are workable. A 4pm start is realistic for students in this pocket and almost nowhere else.

Al Uraibi and Al Qusaidat

Close to the city centre and the older commercial strip. Families here tend to ask about pricing before anything else, which is why the rate table on this page names its sources.

Digdaga and the inland belt

Low density, agricultural land and a genuine distance from any campus. There is no realistic pool of visiting Psychology specialists at this address, and pretending otherwise would waste a term.

The international campuses here are where most Ras Al Khaimah Diploma students sit Psychology. Cohorts are small enough that a student's set may share a teacher with the year below.

  • RAK Academy - International School Al Hamra
  • RAK Academy - British School Al Hamra
  • RAK Academy - British School Khuzam
  • RAK English Speaking School

City-side campuses: Al Nakheel, Khuzam and Al Uraibi

Predominantly Indian-curriculum and British-curriculum schools. Students from these campuses often take Psychology after moving across for Diploma year one, which is when the research-methods gap appears.

  • The Indian School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Our Own English High School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Scholars Indian School Ras Al Khaimah
  • Little Flower English School Ras Al Khaimah

Universities Ras Al Khaimah Psychology students apply to

Psychology is a route into several locally available degrees, and the equivalency question becomes real at application rather than at results.

  • American University of Ras Al Khaimah
  • RAK Medical and Health Sciences University
  • University of Stirling RAK

Schools and universities are named here as local context only. IB Gram claims no affiliation with, endorsement from, or relationship to any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the level, the option and the deadline

Three facts settle most of the match: Standard or Higher Level, which Paper 2 option the school teaches, and the date of the experimental study internal deadline. A screenshot of a recent marked script is worth more than a paragraph describing the problem.

  2. 02

We check genuine Psychology coverage first

Before offering a slot we confirm a Diploma Psychology specialist is available in your window on Gulf Standard Time. If one is not, you are told that, with a realistic date. We do not put a general social-science tutor in front of a 22-mark essay problem.

  3. 03

A free trial lesson on a real piece of work

The trial runs on your child's own marked paper or current draft, not a sample worksheet. By the end of it you should have a specific diagnosis — the short-answer shape, the critical-thinking strand, criterion D — rather than a general impression.

  4. 04

A written plan with the component weightings attached

After the trial you receive a plan that names which component is being targeted and what it is worth, so the spend is visible. A Standard Level student with a Paper 1 problem and a Higher Level student with a Paper 3 gap get different plans.

  5. 05

Weekly sessions with a note after each one

Each session ends with a short written note on what moved and what did not, which is what makes progress checkable rather than a matter of impression. Sessions are recorded so the student can re-watch a marked essay before a mock.

  6. 06

Review at six weeks, change if it is not working

At six weeks we look at marked school work rather than feelings. If the component has not moved, either the plan changes or the tutor does. A match that is not working is cheaper to fix in week six than in April.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Psychology specialists, not general humanities tutors

A nine-mark short-answer question and a 22-mark essay with a critical-thinking strand are specific technical tasks. A capable teacher of another subject will improve a student's writing and still leave the strand that costs the marks untouched.

The academic-honesty line stated, not implied

Our tutors teach the experimental study criteria, review drafts and give feedback. They do not supply research questions, process data or contribute sentences. In a search results page that contains providers selling finished internal assessments, saying so plainly is worth saying.

Rates shown with their sources

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to the provider who published it, with the month it was read. A rate band with no source is a number someone made up, and most pages in this market publish no number at all.

Built for a thin local market

Ras Al Khaimah has a small Diploma Psychology population and very few specialist teachers. Online one-to-one is not a compromise here; it is the only route to a specialist that does not depend on who happens to live nearby.

Coverage limits disclosed before you book

If no Psychology specialist is free in your window, or if the available specialist is outside the UAE, you are told before any payment. Several providers in this market conceal non-UAE delivery behind a local-looking contact number.

No dates we cannot verify

We do not publish IB examination or results dates, because the IB's site cannot be checked automatically and second-hand dates on a page like this would be a liability. Cambridge and Pearson dates are cited from their own published timetables.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Ras Al Khaimah: your questions answered

Does Ras Al Khaimah have enough IB Psychology teachers for a parent to get a second opinion?+

Usually not. The emirate's Diploma cohorts are small, and Psychology in a school of this size is often taught by one teacher who also covers another group three subject. That means no parallel class to benchmark against, and no second specialist in the building to read a disputed essay mark. It is the main practical reason families here look outside the emirate. Online one-to-one solves it directly: the specialist does not need to live in Ras Al Khaimah to mark your child's Paper 1 script against the published criteria on a shared screen.

What does the Department of Knowledge actually approve at my child's Ras Al Khaimah school?+

Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge regulates private education in the emirate, and its remit extends to approving tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods. So it approves that the school may run the Diploma and sets the fee and programme envelope. It does not write the Psychology syllabus, mark Paper 1 or set grade boundaries — those are the IB's. Which Paper 2 options your child's school teaches is a staffing decision made by the school, not the regulator, which is why asking the Diploma coordinator in writing is the useful move.

How are the marks split between Paper 1, Paper 2 and the experimental study?+

At Standard Level, Paper 1 is 50% of the grade, Paper 2 is 25% and the experimental study is 25%. At Higher Level the weight spreads across four components: Paper 1 at 40%, Paper 2 at 20%, Paper 3 at 20% and the experimental study at 20%. The planning consequence is different at each level. A Standard Level student who neglects Paper 1 has given away half the grade in one component. A Higher Level student has no single dominant component and has to be competent at four things, including a research-methods paper that is often taught last.

My daughter writes long Psychology answers and still scores six out of nine. Why?+

Almost always because the study is summarised rather than used. A nine-mark short answer wants three things: the relevant psychological knowledge stated plainly, one study described with enough procedural detail to be identifiable, and an explicit sentence linking that evidence to the exact wording of the question. Long answers usually contain the first two and skip the third, or describe the study as a narrative without the design feature that makes it evidence. Length is not the problem and cutting it will not help; the shape is. Three or four marked rewrites on her own scripts normally moves this.

What does the command term 'to what extent' require in a Psychology essay?+

An explicit answer to the degree question. 'To what extent' expects the essay to land somewhere — largely, partly, only under particular conditions — and to justify that position with methodological comment on the evidence. An essay that lays out two perspectives neatly and never answers the extent question loses marks in the critical-thinking strand however good the knowledge is. This differs from 'discuss', which permits a balanced review without a verdict, and from 'contrast', which wants differences only and gains nothing from the similarities students helpfully add.

Which Paper 2 option is my child sitting, and how do I find out?+

Ask the Diploma coordinator, in writing, and ask for it before option forms are returned. Four options exist: abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, health psychology and the psychology of human relationships. Standard Level students need one, Higher Level two. In a small Ras Al Khaimah cohort the school's choice follows staffing, so it is usually fixed for the year. This matters because the commonest waste of revision time here is a student working through all four options because a bought revision guide covers all four.

Is Higher Level Psychology much harder than Standard Level?+

It is a different course rather than a heavier one. Higher Level students sit an extra paper on research methodology, answer two option essays instead of one, and are expected to fold extension content into Paper 1 answers — animal research in understanding behaviour, cognitive processing in the digital world, the influence of globalisation. The extra content is manageable; the extra component is what catches students out, because it rewards a skill nobody revises. If your child moved level after the first term, Paper 3 and the extension topics are where the gap will be.

What is Paper 3 and why do only Higher Level students sit it?+

Paper 3 is the Higher Level research-methodology paper, worth 20% of the grade. The student is given an unseen piece of qualitative research and answers short questions about its method, sampling, credibility and generalisation. There is no content to memorise, which is why it feels unrevisable and gets left until April. It is actually the most revisable component on the course: around twelve research-methods terms held precisely — credibility, transferability, reflexivity, triangulation, inductive content analysis — will carry a student through a study they have never seen.

How long can the Psychology experimental study report be?+

Between 1,800 and 2,200 words, and the ceiling matters more than students expect. The report is marked out of 22 across four lettered criteria: introduction carries six marks, exploration four, analysis six and evaluation six. Students who do not plan to the word budget write an extended tour of the topic in the introduction and then compress the analysis and evaluation sections, which between them hold more than half the available marks. Setting a word allowance per criterion before writing starts is the simplest intervention available on this component.

Which parts of the experimental study may a tutor help with?+

A tutor may teach the four criteria and what each rewards, challenge a design before data collection rather than after, explain why one statistical choice is defensible and another is not, and give written feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor may not supply the research question, collect or process the data, or contribute sentences to the report. IB academic-honesty rules make that an expulsion risk for the student, and some providers in this market sell completed internal assessments outright. We teach it and review it; your child writes it.

Can my child's own school Psychology teacher tutor them privately for a fee?+

Treat it as off-limits. The MoHRE private tuition work permit carries a code of conduct that bars a permit holder from tutoring students affiliated with their own school, and Abu Dhabi's regulator has published professional-ethics rules prohibiting school staff from paid private tutoring of their own enrolled students. Beyond the rules, it removes the thing a second teacher is for: an independent reading of the work. The point of outside support on a 22-mark essay is a marker who did not set the task.

Will a Psychology tutor travel to Mina Al Arab or Al Hamra Village?+

Not from us. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we offer only in India. Lessons for Ras Al Khaimah families are one-to-one and online, over live video, with marked scripts and drafts shared on screen and annotated during the session. Independent visiting tutors do work in the emirate and the published market band for an in-home hour runs roughly AED 180-500 including travel, but the pool of people who have taught Diploma Psychology to examination within driving distance of these communities is very small.

What should a Ras Al Khaimah family expect to pay for Psychology tuition?+

Published market bands, not our prices, run roughly like this: AED 45-150 an hour for general online tutoring, AED 150-300 for a qualified subject teacher online, AED 180-500 for an in-home visit including travel, and AED 200-450 or more for an IB subject specialist. EdFlik, Tutopiya, Unitors, TutorChase and Bestimate published those figures themselves. Monthly packages advertised in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions. Our own quote follows the free trial lesson, because it depends on level, frequency and how close the internal deadline is.

Do Arabic and Islamic Education lessons leave room for Psychology revision?+

They have to be planned around rather than wished away. Arabic, Islamic Education and social studies are mandatory in UAE private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and the published guidance calculates instructional time in 40-minute lesson units with minimum weekly totals. That is real timetable space. For a Diploma student the collision is usually in the term when the experimental study deadline, the Theory of Knowledge essay and the Extended Essay all land. Mapping those three dates in September is what creates the room.

Does an IB Diploma with Psychology satisfy UAE Ministry of Education equivalency?+

Check it on moe.gov.ae rather than on any tutoring page, including this one. The British-track requirements are published and specific — five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one A-Level at E or two AS-Levels. No equivalent IB points threshold has been verified from the Ministry's own pages, so we do not publish one. Equivalency is a Ministry process; no tutoring provider performs it, and no tutoring is required for it.

Can sessions move to after Iftar during Ramadan in Ras Al Khaimah?+

Yes, and most families here do it. School days shorten, late-afternoon concentration drops, and the usable window moves to after Iftar. A 5pm slot commonly becomes a 9pm slot for the month. Psychology adapts to that better than a practical science does, because the work is essay planning, script review and command-term drilling rather than anything needing equipment. We treat the shift as part of normal scheduling rather than an exception, and we plan the month's content around shorter, more frequent sessions where that helps.

What happens if no Psychology specialist is free when we ask?+

You are told before you pay anything. We will not put a general social-science tutor in front of a critical-thinking strand problem and hope it reads as the same service. If a Diploma Psychology specialist is not available in your window on Gulf Standard Time, we give you a realistic date, or we tell you the available specialist is based outside the UAE and what that means for timing. A thin local market is a fact about this emirate; concealing it only delays the disappointment.

Start with one marked script

The most useful thing you can send is a recent Psychology script with the examiner's or teacher's marks still on it, plus two facts: Standard or Higher Level, and which Paper 2 option the school teaches. From that a specialist can usually name the problem before the first lesson — the short-answer shape, the critical-thinking strand, criterion D on the experimental study, or Paper 3 vocabulary that was never taught. The trial lesson is free and runs on that script rather than a sample worksheet. If no Diploma Psychology specialist is free in your window, we will say so and give you a date, which is more use to a Ras Al Khaimah family than a confident booking that quietly becomes a general tutor.
