IGCSE Science Tutor in Dubailand

An IGCSE science tutor in Dubailand is useless until one thing is settled: whether your child sits three separate sciences, a coordinated award or a combined one. Each removes different content, and revising from the wrong material wastes weeks. IB Gram confirms the award and the syllabus code first, then teaches one-to-one over live video across the Dubailand belt.

  • Award and syllabus code confirmed before the first paid hour
  • Cambridge and Pearson science specifications both covered
  • Written practical papers taught as their own skill
  • Live video lessons; UAE home visits are not offered

IB & IGCSE in Dubailand

Does anyone near Dubailand know which science award your child is taking?

The honest version of this search is narrower than it looks. A parent in Motor City or Arabian Ranches wants a competent science tutor nearby. What the student actually needs is somebody who knows which of three quite different routes they are entered for, because International GCSE science is not one qualification. There are three separate sciences taken as individual subjects, a coordinated award covering all three with reduced content, and a combined award reducing it further. The three routes examine different material, and a tutor who does not establish which one applies will teach content the student will never be examined on.

Then there is the board. Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel both award International GCSE sciences, with codes such as Cambridge 0620 Chemistry, 0625 Physics and 0610 Biology against Pearson 4CH1, 4PH1 and 4BI1, and Cambridge coordinated and combined awards carrying codes 0654 and 0653. Cambridge tiers several subjects into Core and Extended with the tier set at entry; Pearson generally examines a single tier in the sciences. Question styles and command-term habits differ enough that generic worksheets waste a share of every paid hour.

This is where a proximity search fails a science family specifically. Three sciences means three sets of specialist knowledge, and the tutor who covers all three well at Extended tier is rarer than the tutor who covers one. Dubailand compounds it: the belt is a development zone running south-east along Al Ain Road and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, taking in Arabian Ranches and its two later phases, Motor City, Dubai Sports City, DAMAC Hills, Town Square, Mudon and Remraam. Two households both calling themselves Dubailand residents can be twenty-five minutes apart, so insisting a specialist lives close by narrows an already thin pool.

There is a cheap way to test a tutor before committing. Ask which award and code they have taught most recently. Ask what the student is examined on in place of a laboratory practical. Ask which topic in the student's award has been removed compared with the separate sciences. Somebody who has taught the specification answers all three without hesitation. Somebody who has not will talk about confidence and revision, which is the same answer for any subject.

IB Gram's own position is stated plainly rather than implied. We do not send a tutor to a Dubailand address; home visits are a service we operate only in India. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, matched on board, award and tier, with a free trial session first and no card required. What follows is the detail a parent needs: how the three routes differ, how the two boards differ, where science marks actually go, how practical assessment works on paper, and what the market charges.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four routes cover nearly every science enquiry from this belt, and the differences are about what is in scope rather than how hard the questions are.

SEPAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Three separate sciences

Biology, Chemistry and Physics taken as individual International GCSE subjects, each with its own papers and its own grade. The fullest content load and the standard route for students intending to take two or three sciences post-16. Three subjects also means three sets of command-term habits and three sets of practical conventions to learn.

Dubailand students heading toward IB Higher Level sciences or A Level sciences are usually on this route, and it is the one where separate specialists per subject genuinely outperform a single generalist. Families here frequently want one tutor for all three, which is convenient and rarely the strongest arrangement at Extended tier.

COORDAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Coordinated Sciences (double award)

All three sciences in a single course carrying a double award, Cambridge code 0654. Content in each science is reduced relative to the separate subjects, so the single most common error is revising from separate-science material and spending hours on removed topics. The reduction is not uniform across the three sciences, which is why the specification matters.

This is the route a large share of Dubailand families are on without being sure of it, because schools describe it in different ways in reports. Confirming it with the examinations officer before booking tuition is the cheapest piece of planning available and takes one email.

COMBAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Combined Science (single award)

All three sciences in one course carrying a single award, Cambridge code 0653, with content reduced further than the coordinated route. Appropriate where a student needs a broad science qualification rather than a route into science at sixteen. Tutoring that respects the reduced scope converts hours efficiently; tutoring that ignores it wastes most of them.

For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, five accredited International GCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3 are required, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count. How a single or double science award counts toward that total is a question for the attestation authority rather than a tutoring page.

POST16Ages 16-18 · Years 12-13

Post-16 science routes

A Level sciences or IB Diploma sciences, with entry constrained by the International GCSE route and tier. Separate sciences at Extended or Higher tier are the comfortable foundation; a combined single award is usually not sufficient for a demanding post-16 science. That constraint should be understood in Year 9 rather than discovered in Year 11.

Dubailand families with a medicine or engineering ambition need this checked early, because the science route chosen at fourteen quietly shapes what is available at sixteen. Published entry requirements for the intended post-16 programme are the document to read, and reading them costs nothing.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Science marks go missing in identifiable places, and the places differ by discipline. These are the areas Dubailand students most often need rebuilt across the three sciences.

Biology: transport and exchange systems

Core, Extended, and both awards

Diffusion, osmosis, circulation and gas exchange. Content-heavy and vocabulary-dependent, and the loss is structural: a student can recall the process and still score two of six because the answer is not organised the way the markscheme reads.

Biology: genetics and inheritance

Core, Extended, and both awards

Punnett squares, variation and selection. Marks are lost on genetic diagrams that omit gametes or parental genotypes, which is a presentation habit rather than a knowledge gap and closes in two or three sessions.

Chemistry: moles and stoichiometry

Extended and Higher mainly

Mass, moles, concentration and limiting reagents. The quantitative foundation the rest of chemistry rests on, so a gap here resurfaces in electrolysis, energetics and titration questions. Usually four or five sessions to secure.

Chemistry: electrolysis and reactivity

All routes, depth varies

Half equations, products at each electrode and reactivity series reasoning. Half equations unbalanced for charge are the standard loss, along with equations that balance but omit the state symbols the markscheme requires.

Chemistry: organic and rates

Extended and Higher mainly

Homologous series, functional groups and rate experiments. Students describe a rate change without reference to collision frequency or activation energy, which is exactly what the explanation marks are for.

Physics: electricity and circuits

All routes, depth varies

Current, potential difference, resistance and circuit analysis. Jointly with forces this is where the largest share of physics marks sits, and losses come from circuits worked from the formula sheet rather than redrawn properly.

Physics: forces and motion

All routes, depth varies

Motion graphs, Newton's laws and moments. Taught early and depended on afterwards. The reliable loss is a question attempted without the diagram that would have made it straightforward.

Physics: waves, energy and radioactivity

All routes, depth varies

Reflection and refraction, energy transfer and decay. Content-light on calculation and heavy on precise description, so it rewards organised notes and exact vocabulary rather than extra problem practice.

Practical skills on paper

All routes and both boards

Variables, method criticism, scale reading, data processing, reliability and improvement. Examined through written questions across all three sciences, and the most reliably recoverable block in the whole qualification.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover science requests from this belt. For a three-science student the format decision matters more than for a single subject, because the time has to be shared.

One science at a time, in rotation

A weekly slot that concentrates on the science currently costing the most marks, reviewed every six sessions and rotated if the diagnosis changes. This usually beats splitting one hour across three subjects, because twenty minutes on each produces recognition rather than fluency.

  • Award and board confirmed before the first paid hour
  • Diagnosis repeated every six sessions to decide rotation
  • Problem sets sized for a school night
  • Short written note to the parent after each session

Separate specialists for separate sciences

For a three-separate-sciences student at Extended or Higher tier, one specialist per subject in consecutive slots. Costs nothing extra in travel because there is none, and it avoids asking one person to hold current knowledge of three specifications at the higher tier.

  • Each subject matched to a tutor who teaches that specification
  • Consecutive slots on one evening or across two
  • Each subject diagnosed and planned independently
  • One scheduling conversation rather than three

Written practical paper block

Four to six sessions on the practical skills examined in writing across all three sciences: variables, method criticism, data processing, reliability and improvement. Shared technique, so a single block serves biology, chemistry and physics at once, which makes it unusually efficient.

  • Taught as transferable technique across all three sciences
  • Flawed methods analysed, which is the paper's own format
  • Student's own school practical data processed properly
  • Defined number of sessions with a stated endpoint

Separate, coordinated or combined: find out before paying for anything

This is the first question and most families cannot answer it with certainty, because schools describe the routes inconsistently in reports and option booklets. The answer sits with the examinations officer, and it comes in two parts: which award, and which syllabus code. Those two facts determine what is in scope, and therefore what every paid hour should be spent on.

The three routes reduce content in different proportions. Separate sciences carry the full specification in each discipline. A coordinated double award covers all three with content removed from each, and a combined single award removes more again. The removals are not uniform: a topic trimmed from chemistry in the coordinated award may be retained in biology, and the pattern differs between boards. A student revising a removed topic is spending time they do not have on marks that do not exist.

That is the specific waste this page is trying to prevent, and it is common. A family buys a well-reviewed separate-science revision resource, the student works diligently through it, and a meaningful share of the effort goes to content outside their award. Worse, the student concludes they are bad at science when in fact they were studying a harder qualification than the one they are entered for.

The table below sets out the three routes and what each one changes for a tutoring plan. Take it to the conversation with the school rather than treating it as an answer in itself, because the school's entry record is the authoritative document.

Cambridge or Pearson: codes, tiers and why generic material underperforms

Once the award is known, the board and the code follow. Cambridge science codes include 0610 Biology, 0620 Chemistry, 0625 Physics, 0654 Coordinated Sciences and 0653 Combined Science. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE uses 4BI1 Biology, 4CH1 Chemistry and 4PH1 Physics among others. Exactly one syllabus code appears across the whole competing area-page cluster researched for this project, which is a fair measure of how rarely anyone in this market asks.

Cambridge tiers several subjects into Core and Extended, with the tier set at entry by the school. Core papers lead to grades C to G and Extended papers to A* to E, so the tier fixes a ceiling that no amount of tutoring can lift once entries close. Pearson generally examines a single tier in the sciences, which removes that particular risk and replaces it with a different planning question about the appropriate depth of preparation.

Why the code matters practically is question style. Cambridge and Pearson phrase questions differently, weight their command terms slightly differently, and present data questions in distinct formats. A student drilled on the wrong board's past questions arrives at the paper with the right knowledge and an unfamiliar interface, which costs time and confidence in the first ten minutes. Board-specific practice is not a refinement; it is the difference between prepared and nearly prepared.

One Cambridge administrative detail is worth checking and costs nothing. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, because it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. Ask the examinations officer which zone your centre sits in before building a revision calendar from a timetable found online.

Where International GCSE science marks actually go

Across all three sciences the losses follow a small number of patterns, and almost none of them are failures of understanding. That is genuinely good news for a parent, because habits change faster than knowledge gaps close, and a diagnostic with marked work in front of both people identifies the pattern in a single session.

The first and largest is answer structure on longer questions. A six-mark question has a shape, and a student who writes everything they know about the topic in prose collects a fraction of the available credit. The second is command-term confusion: describe, explain, suggest and evaluate ask for different things, and answering one as another either wastes time or loses marks. The third is diagrams never drawn, which in physics means free-body diagrams and redrawn circuits, in chemistry means apparatus and in biology means genetic diagrams with gametes shown.

The fourth is quantitative discipline: units, significant figures and the arithmetic of percentage change. The fifth is the practical paper, where students who have done the laboratory work still cannot state a controlled variable precisely or criticise a method, because those are written skills nobody taught them explicitly. The sixth is timing, which is not a topic and cannot be revised, only drilled on the correct board's papers.

None of these is addressed by covering the syllabus again, which is the only plan a tutor can offer without seeing marked work. It is also the most expensive plan, because it bills by the month and converts slowly. Insisting on a diagnosis in the first session is the single most useful thing a Dubailand parent can do with a trial lesson.

Practical assessment: examined on paper, performed at school

Parents reasonably ask how a science student is supported when tuition is delivered online and science involves laboratories. The answer rests on how the qualification actually assesses practical work, and once that is understood the objection largely dissolves.

In the main International GCSE science routes, practical skills are examined through written questions about experimental method rather than through a performed experiment marked on the day. Candidates are asked to identify independent, dependent and controlled variables, criticise a given method, read an instrument scale, process data into a table, plot a graph, assess reliability and suggest a specific improvement. Those are writing and reasoning skills, and they are the single most reliably recoverable block in the qualification because almost nobody teaches them explicitly.

They are also taught better on a shared screen than at a bench. Both people can annotate the same data table and graph in real time. A tutor can display a deliberately flawed method and ask what is wrong with it, which is exactly the format the paper uses. Most usefully, a student can bring their own messy data from a school practical and have it processed properly, which turns a frustrating afternoon into transferable technique.

What a screen cannot do is build the physical competence of handling apparatus, and that part belongs to the school, which has the equipment, the technician and the safety framework. The division of labour is therefore clean and worth stating to a parent directly: the school runs the laboratory, the tutor teaches the paper. Since the marks are on the paper, that is where the tutoring should be.

05

Core, Extended and the ceiling across three sciences

For Cambridge candidates the tier decision is the most consequential academic decision made before sixteen, and it is multiplied by three for a separate-sciences student. Core papers lead to grades C to G; Extended papers reach A* to E. The tier is set at entry by the school, usually on internal evidence, and once entries close no amount of tuition changes the ceiling.

The multiplication matters. A student can reasonably be placed at Extended in biology and Core in physics, and families often do not realise that the tier was decided subject by subject rather than as a block. If a post-16 science route requires a particular grade in physics and the physics entry is Core, that is a problem to solve before the deadline, not in the spring of Year 11.

A short diagnostic is the right purchase at that point. Three to five sessions against the actual specification produces a written assessment of whether the higher tier is realistically reachable in a given science and what closing the gap would require in weeks. Taken to a head of department, that evidence carries more weight than a parent's conviction. Occasionally it says the opposite: an honest Core entry with a strong grade serves a student better than an Extended entry producing an E, and then the money is better spent on a different subject.

For Pearson candidates there is a different lever. Where a subject permits the modular route, units can be sat across more than one series with the better result carried forward, which splits one high-stakes moment into two. Whether a centre enters modularly is a question for the examinations officer, since it is a centre decision rather than a published default.

06

What science tutoring costs around the Dubailand belt

Science costs more to support than mathematics for a simple reason: three subjects, each with its own specialist knowledge, and fewer specialists per subject. A family wanting all three covered weekly at the specialist band is looking at a substantial monthly figure, which is why the rotation approach described above usually represents better value.

The sourced bands. Budget online provision runs AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik advertising from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. Qualified online subject tutors sit at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing International GCSE from AED 150. Specialist International GCSE and A Level provision runs AED 200 to 450 and upward, TutorChase publishing AED 270. In-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, with Bestimate at 180 to 350 and independent home tutors reaching 500. Premium named provision reaches AED 650 with BartyED.

Monthly, Bestimate's Dubai estimates for a weekly one-hour session give AED 240 to 600 for budget provision, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and upward for specialist examination-year support. Packages circulate at roughly AED 799 a month for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. For a three-science family the in-home comparison is particularly unfavourable, because three visiting specialists means three travel premiums while three online slots mean none.

None of these figures is an IB Gram price list. Each names the provider or source that published it so a quote can be checked, which matters in a market where three of the six most visible pages publish no price at all. One further figure should be zero: the MoHRE private tutor work permit is granted free of charge for two years, so a licensing line item in any quote is charging for something that costs nothing.

07

Coursework, board material and the honesty boundary

International GCSE science carries less internally assessed work than the IB Diploma, but where any assessed personal work exists the boundary is identical, and it is worth stating because one page ranking in this market sells completed assessed work outright. The penalty for that falls on the student, not the seller.

A tutor may teach the content, explain what the assessment criteria reward, test whether a proposed approach is workable, read what the student has written and identify where it loses marks, demonstrate a technique on different material, and teach citation and referencing properly. Where a school requires an authentication declaration, the student signs it, and a tutor who crossed the line has put that signature at risk.

On materials the position is firm. Cambridge and Pearson syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade boundary tables are their copyright, and unreleased material carries a malpractice exposure in addition. A tutor cites the official source, works from what the school has legitimately issued, and writes equivalent practice questions in the same style and at the same difficulty. A provider advertising a download library of papers has an unresolved copyright problem that a family using it would be participating in.

There is a parallel rule for the mandatory UAE subjects that sit alongside the science timetable. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are compulsory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with separate classes required for Arab and non-Arab students, and for those subjects the use of any different or additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission is strictly prohibited. Support there works from the school's own material by design.

08

Availability, permits and what a platform may claim

Honest availability matters more in science than in single-subject requests, because a family often wants three things at once. Single-science support at either tier matches quickly. All three sciences in the same evening is a scheduling problem rather than a supply problem, and it resolves by using two evenings or a weekend morning. The narrowest request is a specific tier in a specific board's physics at a contested hour, and where no specialist is free we give a date rather than offering a near-fit.

No competitor in the clusters researched for this project discloses a coverage limit anywhere, which is how families end up discovering one in week three. Lessons are also delivered by specialists who may be based in the UAE or elsewhere, including experienced Cambridge and Pearson teachers outside the Emirates, and a parent should be told that at the outset rather than infer it later.

On permits, the facts are simple. The MoHRE private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Those tutoring without it are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules bar school staff from paid tuition of their own school's students, and the permit's code of conduct does likewise; that reporting is press-sourced, so verify against the current ADEK text.

What none of that licenses is a claim of endorsement. Dubai's private schools are overseen by KHDA, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain by ADEK, Sharjah by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah by its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah by the federal Ministry of Education. IB Gram holds no approval or accreditation from any of them, nor from Cambridge, Pearson or the IB, and operates no office, centre or branch in the UAE.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Dubailand

These notes cover how each community in the belt affects access to science specialists and the hours that are realistically usable.

Arabian Ranches

Secondary students travel out of the belt and are home by around half past four, so a single-science session from half past five holds. Families here most often want all three sciences covered, which is where one tutor per subject becomes the better arrangement.

Arabian Ranches 2 and 3

Younger populations with heavier Years 7 to 9 demand, where the groundwork for Core or Extended entry is laid. Afternoon sessions are realistic here in a way they are not for the Year 11 cohort.

Motor City

Shorter journeys and a denser evening sports calendar. A short weekday slot suits consolidating one science, with the written practical paper work moved to a weekend morning where it can be done properly.

Dubai Sports City

Academy training occupies most weekday evenings, so weekend mornings carry the real work. For a three-science student that often means two consecutive weekend sessions rather than three scattered weekday ones.

DAMAC Hills and Town Square

The longest commutes in the belt. A family wanting three separate science specialists and insisting all three visit in person is asking for something the local market cannot supply at a sensible price.

Mudon and Remraam

Two-child evenings are common, often one in Year 9 general science and one in Year 11 Extended. Consecutive online slots with different specialists is the arrangement that fits, with no second travel fee.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Email the school for the award and the codes

Which route, which board, which syllabus codes, which tier where one applies. For a science family that single reply prevents the most common waste in this market: revising removed content from separate-science material on a coordinated or combined award.

  2. 02

Name the weakest science, not all three

A diagnostic across the three identifies where the marks are actually going. Concentrating on one at a time, reviewed every six sessions, produces more movement than splitting one hour three ways, which yields recognition rather than fluency.

  3. 03

Use the free trial as an interview

A full session, no charge, no card. Ask which award and code the tutor last taught, what the student is examined on instead of a performed practical, and which topic their award has removed. A specialist answers all three without hesitation.

  4. 04

    Buy the practical-paper block early

Four to six sessions on variables, method criticism, data processing, reliability and improvement. The technique transfers across all three sciences, which makes it the most efficient purchase in the qualification and the one almost nobody teaches explicitly.

  5. 05

Check the tier in each science separately

Cambridge tiers are set subject by subject, so a student can be Extended in biology and Core in physics. If a post-16 route needs a grade the tier cannot deliver, that conversation belongs before entries close rather than in the spring of Year 11.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The award is established before the teaching

Separate, coordinated and combined routes examine different content, and the reductions are not uniform across the three sciences. Confirming the award and code first prevents the commonest waste in this market, which is diligent revision of removed topics.

Board-specific practice, not generic worksheets

Cambridge and Pearson phrase questions and present data differently. A student drilled on the wrong board arrives with the right knowledge and an unfamiliar interface. Exactly one syllabus code appears across the whole competing area-page cluster researched for this project.

Separate specialists for separate sciences

At Extended or Higher tier, one tutor per subject outperforms one generalist covering three, and online delivery makes consecutive slots cost nothing extra in travel. Convenience is a real benefit and it is not the same as the best arrangement.

The written practical paper taught deliberately

Variables, method criticism, data processing and evaluation are writing skills examined on paper, and they transfer across all three sciences. That makes one block serve three subjects, and it is the area most reliably left untaught by schools and tutors alike.

Rates published with their sources

Every AED figure names who published it, including the in-home band that makes the travel premium visible. For a three-science family that premium triples, since three visiting specialists means three journeys and three fees loaded with them.

No approval claimed and no outcome promised

No KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry, Cambridge or Pearson approval, no UAE office, no grade promise, and no statistic without the number of students, the date and the method. The MoHRE private tutor permit, meanwhile, is free of charge for two years.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubailand: your questions answered

What does Coordinated Science mean compared with separate sciences?+

A coordinated award covers biology, chemistry and physics in one course with content reduced in each, carrying a double award on Cambridge code 0654. Separate sciences carry the full specification in each discipline and three individual grades. The reductions in the coordinated route are not uniform across the three sciences, which is why the specification itself matters. The practical consequence is that separate-science revision material over-prepares a coordinated candidate and wastes a real share of their available hours on topics they will never be examined on.

How do I find out which science award my child is entered for?+

Email the school's examinations officer and ask three things: which route, which board, and which syllabus codes. Schools describe these routes inconsistently in reports and option booklets, so a parent's impression is not reliable evidence. You are looking for something like Cambridge 0610, 0620 and 0625 for separate sciences, 0654 for coordinated or 0653 for combined, or Pearson 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1. Ask about the tier at the same time, because Cambridge sets Core or Extended subject by subject.

Should one tutor cover all three sciences for a Dubailand student?+

For a combined or coordinated award at the lower tiers, often yes, because the content depth in each discipline is limited and the practical-paper technique is shared. For three separate sciences at Extended or Higher tier, usually not, because holding current knowledge of three specifications at that depth is a lot to ask of one person. Online delivery makes consecutive slots with different specialists cost nothing extra in travel, which removes the main practical reason families default to one tutor.

How are science practicals assessed if my child studies online?+

In the main International GCSE science routes, practical skills are examined through written questions about method rather than a performed experiment marked on the day. Candidates identify variables, criticise a method, read scales, process data, plot graphs, assess reliability and suggest improvements. Those are writing and reasoning skills, taught better on a shared annotated document than at a bench. The laboratory work itself belongs to the school, which has the equipment and the technician. Since the marks sit on the paper, that is where tutoring belongs.

Which science do UAE students struggle with most?+

Across the three, physics produces the most consistent difficulty for students in this belt, usually because electricity and forces are taught early and relied upon afterwards, and because questions are attempted from the formula sheet rather than from a diagram. Biology produces the most marks lost to answer structure, since content recall is strong and organisation is weak. Chemistry concentrates its difficulty in moles and electrolysis. The useful point is that each has a distinct failure pattern, which makes a diagnosis quick and a plan specific.

Can the Core tier limit a Dubailand student's post-16 science options?+

Yes, and this catches families out. Cambridge Core papers lead to grades C to G while Extended papers reach A* to E, and the tier is set at entry subject by subject, so a student can be Extended in biology and Core in physics without the family realising. If a post-16 science route requires a grade the Core paper cannot deliver, that must be addressed before entries close. A short diagnostic against the real specification, written up for the school, is the only intervention that works at that point.

How many science sessions a week does a Year 11 need in this belt?+

Usually one well-placed session concentrating on the weakest science, rotated after a review, plus a shared practical-paper block. Three weekly sessions across three sciences sounds thorough and rarely survives a term, because Dubailand students travel out of the belt and arrive home late, and because academy training in Sports City and Motor City occupies the early evening. Two sessions placed deliberately, one weekday and one weekend morning, produce more than three scattered ones that get cancelled.

Do Cambridge and Pearson science papers really differ that much?+

Enough to matter in the first ten minutes of the paper. The underlying science is the same, but question phrasing, command-term weighting and the presentation of data questions differ, and Cambridge tiers several subjects while Pearson generally examines a single tier in the sciences. A student drilled on the wrong board's past questions arrives with the right knowledge and an unfamiliar interface, which costs time and confidence. Board-specific practice is not a refinement; it is the difference between prepared and nearly prepared.

What does IGCSE science tuition cost in the Dubailand communities?+

Market figures rather than ours. Qualified online subject tutors are quoted at AED 150 to 300 an hour, with Unitors publishing International GCSE from AED 150. Specialist provision runs AED 200 to 450 and upward, TutorChase at AED 270. Budget provision runs AED 45 to 150, with EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. In-home visits are AED 180 to 500 including travel. For a three-science family the in-home comparison is poor, because three visiting specialists means three travel premiums against none for three online slots.

Is it worth starting science tutoring in Year 9?+

For a family in this belt, often yes, though for a different reason than in Year 11. Year 9 is where the science option block and the Core or Extended trajectory are being decided, and the skills that determine both are specific: writing an explanation rather than a description, quantitative confidence, and organising a long answer. Work on those is cheaper now than remediation later, and it is why a large share of enquiries from Arabian Ranches 3, Mudon and Town Square concern the years before the examination course.

Which exam series will a Dubailand science candidate sit?+

Cambridge International runs International GCSE in a June series and a November series in the UAE, and the February and March series is offered to India only, so any page quoting a spring window is giving you a date you cannot use. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November. Checkable anchors from past series: Pearson's November 2026 final timetable ran to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

Will you give us past papers for all three sciences?+

No, and a provider offering a paper library is showing you a problem rather than a benefit. Cambridge and Pearson past papers, mark schemes, syllabus documents and grade boundary tables are their copyright, and unreleased material carries a malpractice exposure as well. A tutor cites the official source, works from what the school has legitimately issued, and writes equivalent practice questions in the same style and difficulty. Across three sciences that is more work for the tutor and entirely manageable.

Does my child's science tutor need a UAE permit?+

Yes. Private tuition runs on the MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18, and MoHRE's service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. Tutoring without it attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, although no amounts are published. Ask also whether your child attends the tutor's own school.

How do Arabic and Islamic Education affect a science revision plan?+

They make the taught week fuller than a science option block suggests. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are compulsory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed curriculum, with separate classes required for Arab and non-Arab students. KHDA calculates instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit and advises that no mandatory subject lesson runs shorter than 25 minutes. For a three-science student in this belt, that means fewer genuinely free evening hours than a revision timetable drawn from subject blocks alone would assume.

Confirm the award, then buy the hours

An IGCSE science tutor in Dubailand earns their fee by knowing which award and which board your child is entered for, and by teaching the written practical paper nobody else teaches explicitly. One email to the school settles the first; a diagnostic session settles where the marks are going. Distance settles neither, and for a three-science family a proximity search triples the travel premium while narrowing the specialist pool. Book a free trial lesson, treat it as an interview, and start with the weakest science rather than all three at once.
