IGCSE Science Tutor in DIFC

Looking for an IGCSE science tutor in DIFC usually means one thing: you want someone who already knows your child's syllabus code, not someone who knows science in general. A Gate Village family whose daughter sits Cambridge 0620 needs a different tutor from the one next door whose son sits Edexcel 4CH1. IB Gram answers that question first, then delivers the teaching live online on Gulf Standard Time, one student at a time, starting with a free trial lesson.

  • Cambridge 0610, 0620, 0625, 0653 and 0654 taught as separate specifications
  • Edexcel 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1 and 4SD0 covered to their own mark schemes
  • Live online one-to-one lessons scheduled on Gulf Standard Time
  • Free trial lesson first, with the tutor your child then keeps

IB & IGCSE in DIFC

Is there anyone near DIFC who actually knows these syllabuses?

That is the real search behind the phrase IGCSE science tutor in DIFC, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a sales page. DIFC is an office district with residential towers inside it: Gate Village, Index Tower, Central Park, Limestone House and the Burj Daman cluster. Children living there attend British-curriculum schools spread from Al Quoz to Al Jaddaf to Al Safa. The science teaching those children receive is specification-specific, and the gap between a tutor who knows the specification and one who merely knows chemistry is the gap between a grade 6 and a grade 8.

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel are not interchangeable. Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry carries the code 0620 and offers a Core and an Extended tier with different papers. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry carries the code 4CH1 and is untiered, with one set of papers for every candidate. The content overlaps substantially; the question style, the command verbs, the mark allocation and the practical requirement do not. A tutor who drills Cambridge Paper 6 technique into a 4CH1 candidate is teaching a paper that child will never sit.

So the honest answer to whether anyone near DIFC knows the syllabus is this: proximity is the wrong filter. Within a fifteen-minute drive of Gate Avenue there are tutors who will take a science booking, and most of them will teach science competently. Far fewer will open the session by asking which code appears on the top right of your child's exam paper. IB Gram filters on the code, not the postcode, and because lessons run over live video the pool is the whole roster rather than whoever can reach Trade Centre by five o'clock.

This page therefore does the work in the order a DIFC parent needs it. It sets out which codes exist and which papers each one requires. It shows what each component is worth and where Extended-tier candidates lose marks year after year. It publishes what the Dubai market charges for science tuition, with the source of every figure, so you can check the number against the page that published it. It explains the two exam series a UAE candidate actually sits, counted backwards from the exam to the point where entries close.

It also states plainly what IB Gram does not do. There is no IB Gram office in Dubai and no tutor will be sent to a DIFC address: home visits are a service offered only in India. Everything for a UAE family is delivered as one-to-one live video tuition, screen-shared, recorded where the family asks for it, and timed around a school day that for most DIFC children ends between 14:45 and 15:30. The case for that model is made in a comparison table further down rather than asserted here.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four routes cover almost every DIFC science booking. The first two are the Cambridge and Edexcel separate sciences, the third is the double-award compromise most option blocks offer, and the fourth is what IGCSE science has to prepare a student for once Year 11 ends.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE separate sciences (0610, 0620, 0625)

Three standalone qualifications, each tiered into Core and Extended. An Extended candidate sits the extended multiple-choice paper, the extended theory paper and either the practical test or the alternative-to-practical paper. The grade ceiling differs by tier, which makes the tier decision the single most consequential choice in a Year 10 science timetable and the one parents are least often shown in writing.

Most Dubai British-curriculum schools near DIFC enter candidates for the Extended tier by default and move individual students down only after the Year 10 internal examinations. If your child's school is reviewing tier placement in the spring term, that review is the moment tutoring changes the outcome, because the evidence the school looks at is internal paper performance rather than classwork.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE sciences (4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1)

Untiered qualifications with a single paper set for all candidates and no alternative-to-practical component in the Cambridge sense. Practical skills are assessed inside the written papers, which changes the preparation entirely: there is no separate paper to drill, but experimental-method questions are embedded across both papers and carry a disproportionate share of the marks students drop.

Edexcel publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, including the International GCSE November resit series long before it starts, so a Dubai family planning a resit can see the window before entries open. The November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. Always read the live timetable on the Pearson support pages rather than a date restated on a tutoring site, including this one.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Co-ordinated and Combined Science (0654, 0653)

Co-ordinated Science as a double award yields two IGCSE grades from roughly two thirds of the separate-science content; Combined Science yields one. Both keep a child's option block free for a language or a humanity. Neither closes the door on A Level science, but a student moving from 0654 into A Level Chemistry has genuine content gaps to close over the summer.

Option blocks at Dubai schools fill in the spring of Year 9, and the double-award route is often presented as the safe choice for a student who finds science hard. For a DIFC family planning on an engineering or medical pathway, the more useful question is which separate science could be dropped instead, since that keeps the remaining two at full depth.

NEXTAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

What IGCSE science has to prepare for: A Level and IB DP

Dubai schools split after Year 11 into A Level and the IB Diploma, and both assume specific IGCSE science foundations. A Level Chemistry assumes confident mole calculations and organic mechanisms. IB Diploma sciences assume data-handling and uncertainty work that Cambridge Paper 6 touches only lightly. The summer between Year 11 and Year 12 is where that gap is cheapest to close.

Dubai's private sector added six schools during 2025-26 and is adding seven more for 2026-27, four UK-curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places. For a DIFC family, that means the sixth-form choice is widening while your child is still in Year 10, so the IGCSE tier decision should not be made as though the post-16 route were already fixed.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each line below is a specification rather than a subject. Where your child's paper shows a different code, the teaching changes, and the first trial lesson is spent confirming which one it is before any content is covered.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610

Core and Extended

Heaviest mark losses sit in transport in plants, genetics notation and the respiration-photosynthesis comparison questions. Extended candidates also face the osmosis practical write-up, where method criticism rather than recall earns the marks.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry 0620

Core and Extended

Moles, electrolysis products and organic reaction conditions are where Extended grades are decided. Students who can balance equations often still lose marks by omitting state symbols or by naming a product without naming the electrode it forms at.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625

Core and Extended

Electricity, moments and the thermal-energy calculations account for most dropped marks. The recurring error is unit conversion inside multi-step questions rather than conceptual confusion, which is why timed paper work beats re-teaching for most candidates.

Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Science 0654

Double Award, Core and Extended

Two grades from a syllabus that samples all three sciences. The risk is uneven depth: a student strong in biology can carry a weak physics third a long way before the final papers expose it. Diagnostic paper work by discipline is the fix.

Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science 0653

Single Award, Core and Extended

One grade across all three sciences, usually chosen to protect an option block. Tutoring here is mostly triage: identify which of the three disciplines is costing the most marks and spend the hours there rather than spreading them evenly.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Biology 4BI1

Untiered

Paper 1 and Paper 2 with practical skills embedded rather than separated. Candidates lose marks on experimental design and on the extended-response questions, which expect a structured argument rather than a list of recalled facts.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Chemistry 4CH1

Untiered

Calculation-dense, with titration and yield questions appearing in both papers. Students arriving from a Cambridge school mid-course frequently need the untiered paper structure explained before anything chemical is taught.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Physics 4PH1

Untiered

Formula selection under time pressure is the recurring weakness. The specification expects recall of relationships that Cambridge supplies, so the revision pattern for a 4PH1 candidate differs from a 0625 candidate in a way that matters.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Science Double Award 4SD0

Untiered

Two grades drawn from biology, chemistry and physics papers. Timetable clashes and the sheer paper count in a single series make session planning as important as content work for these candidates.

Practical and alternative-to-practical skills

Cambridge Paper 5 and Paper 6

Table design, anomaly identification, graph-line judgement and error sources. These are teachable in a screen-shared session with real data sets, and they are worth a fifth of the Cambridge grade, which makes them the best-value hours on the whole page.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three session patterns cover nearly every IGCSE science booking from this corridor. The pattern matters as much as the hours, because a Year 11 candidate sitting three sciences cannot absorb three separate weekly sessions on top of a full school day.

One science, one weekly session

A single sixty or ninety-minute session each week on the science costing the most marks, with a timed question set between lessons. This is the pattern most Year 10 families start with, and it is usually enough to move a specific topic weakness before it compounds into the next unit.

  • Fixed weekly slot on Gulf Standard Time, same tutor each week
  • Work set from the correct syllabus code's past papers
  • Marked to the official mark scheme with the mark allocation shown
  • Topic log so you can see what has actually been covered

Two sciences across one week

Alternating subjects week to week, or a split session covering both. Year 11 candidates with two weak sciences do better on this pattern than on two full weekly sessions, because the limiting factor is independent practice time rather than contact hours. The tutor sequences the two so the harder paper gets the term before the series.

  • Alternating or split sessions, agreed at the start of the term
  • One topic log covering both subjects so overlap is visible
  • Practical-skills work shared across the two sciences
  • Session order reviewed after each school assessment

Practical and alternative-to-practical block

Four to six sessions on Cambridge Paper 5 and Paper 6 technique, or on the embedded experimental questions in the Edexcel papers. Worth a fifth of the Cambridge grade and almost never taught separately at school, which is why it returns more marks per hour than any other block offered here.

  • Real data sets worked on a shared screen
  • Table design, anomaly spotting and line-of-best-fit judgement
  • Error-source and improvement questions to the mark scheme
  • Finishes with a full past paper under timed conditions

Pre-series intensive before June or November

A compressed run of sessions in the weeks before the exam window, built around full past papers rather than topic teaching. Suitable for a candidate whose content is broadly in place and whose marks are being lost to timing, question interpretation or presentation of working.

  • Full papers sat under timed conditions, then marked together
  • Error pattern tracked across papers rather than per question
  • Session frequency raised to two or three a week by request
  • Stops at the start of the exam window rather than running into it

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in DIFC

01

What a DIFC parent is really asking when they search for a science tutor

The search is for a person who can read your child's exam paper and recognise it. An IGCSE science tutor in DIFC is not a generic science teacher who happens to live nearby; it is someone who knows whether the paper in front of them is Cambridge 0620 Extended or Edexcel 4CH1, and who teaches accordingly from the first lesson rather than the fourth.

That distinction is not pedantry. A Cambridge Extended candidate sits the extended multiple-choice paper, the extended theory paper and either a practical test or the alternative-to-practical paper. An Edexcel candidate sits two untiered written papers with experimental method embedded inside them. The two preparations diverge on question style, on command verbs, on how working must be presented, and on whether there is a separate practical paper to practise at all.

Most DIFC parents discover this somewhere in the second half of Year 10, usually when a tutor sets a past paper that turns out to be from the wrong board. The lesson is cheap if it happens in week two and expensive if it happens in March of Year 11. So the first thing to establish is the code, and the second is whether the tutor you are considering asked for it unprompted.

IB Gram treats that as the opening move. The free trial lesson starts with the specification, the tier and the papers your child is entered for, and the teaching plan is written against those. Nothing on this page claims a tutor is nearer to Gate Village than anyone else; the claim is that the match is made on the specification, and that live online delivery is what makes a specification-level match possible at all.

02

The syllabus code is the whole question

Dubai schools choose their own boards, and campuses within a ten-minute drive of each other make different choices. That means two DIFC children in the same tower, in the same year group, studying what their parents both call IGCSE Chemistry, can be sitting different papers with different structures and different grade scales. The table below sets out which codes exist and what each one demands.

Read the rightmost column carefully, because it is where the preparation actually differs. Cambridge separates practical assessment into its own paper, which can be practised to a mark scheme. Edexcel distributes experimental questions across its written papers, which means practical skill is tested without a dedicated paper to rehearse. A tutor who does not know which model applies will either over-prepare a paper your child never sits or under-prepare questions that appear throughout.

The grade scales differ too. Cambridge IGCSE sciences report on A* to G alongside the 9 to 1 scale depending on the syllabus variant and series, while Edexcel International GCSE reports on 9 to 1. Where your child's school reports internally in one scale and enters them for the other, the mock grade you are shown may not mean what you assume. Ask the head of science which scale the final certificate will use.

Codes also change. Cambridge and Pearson revise specifications, and a syllabus taught from 2025 may differ from the one a tutor last taught in 2021. Every teaching plan here is written against the current syllabus document on the board's own site, and the correct response to any doubt is to read that document rather than to trust a summary, including this one.

Component by component: what each science paper is worth

Parents are rarely shown the weightings, and they change how hours should be spent. A Cambridge Extended science candidate takes three components, and one of them is the practical route worth a fifth of the grade. Yet practical technique is the component schools have least timetable room to rehearse, because it needs apparatus, a lab slot and a technician.

The consequence is predictable. A student who is solid on theory and untrained on Paper 6 arrives at a ceiling they cannot see, because their classwork never tested table design or anomaly identification. Four sessions on that one component often move more marks than ten sessions of topic revision, and they are the easiest sessions to run over live video because the work is data on a shared screen rather than apparatus in a room.

Durations and exact weightings vary by syllabus and by series, so the table gives the structure and sends you to the syllabus document for the current figures. What does not vary is the shape: a multiple-choice component, a theory component carrying the largest share, and a practical route carrying the rest. Build the term plan around that shape rather than around chapter order in the textbook.

One more structural point. Cambridge Core and Extended candidates sit different papers for the same subject, and the Core route carries a grade ceiling. If your child's school is still deciding tier in the spring of Year 10, the internal paper performance is the evidence that decision rests on, which makes the months before it the most valuable tutoring window in the whole two years.

04

Where Extended-tier science marks actually go missing

  • Final answer given without a unit, or without a state symbol in an equation
  • Command verb ignored: explaining when asked to state, or stating when asked to explain
  • Line of best fit drawn point to point, with anomalies included rather than named
  • Unit conversion performed at the wrong stage of a multi-step calculation
  • Significant figures inconsistent between the table and the final answer
  • Improvement questions answered with 'be more careful' rather than a method change

Mark loss at Extended tier is rarely about not knowing the science. It is about a small set of repeated habits that a marker is obliged to penalise. The most common is an unfinished calculation: the student has the right method, arrives at the right number, and omits the unit or the state symbol that the mark scheme requires before awarding the final mark.

The second is command-verb blindness. State, describe and explain carry different mark counts and demand different answers, and a student who explains when asked to state wastes minutes they need later in the paper. The third is graph work: axes chosen badly, a line drawn through every point rather than through the trend, and anomalies circled without being named as anomalies.

In chemistry specifically, electrolysis questions cost marks because products are named without the electrode, and mole questions cost marks because the student converts at the wrong step. In physics, almost all of the dropped marks in multi-step questions come from unit conversion rather than from the physics. In biology, genetics notation and the transport-in-plants sequence account for a disproportionate share.

None of this is diagnosable from a report card. It is diagnosable from three marked past papers, which is why the first fortnight of any booking here is spent on timed paper work rather than on teaching. The output is a short list of the specific habits costing your child marks, in the order of how many marks each one costs.

What science tuition costs in Dubai, and how to check the figure yourself

Every number in the table below was published by the provider named beside it, which means you can open their page and read it for yourself. That is the point of printing the source column: a rate with no attribution is a sales claim, and a rate you can verify is information. Three of the six competitor pages researched for this project publish no price at all, and two of the three that do quote in US dollars, a currency no Dubai family transacts in.

The cheapest end of the market is university-student and platform tutoring, which starts around AED 33 to AED 65 an hour. The middle is a qualified subject tutor working online, roughly AED 150 to AED 300. Specialist IGCSE and IB tutors run AED 200 to AED 450 and above, and a named or examiner-tier tutor can reach AED 650. In-home visits sit at AED 180 to AED 500 because travel time is priced inside the hour.

Monthly packages are where comparison gets difficult, because a package fixes a session count rather than a number of hours. Figures seen in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. Divide by the actual minutes before comparing anything, and ask whether marking between sessions is included or billed.

IB Gram does not publish a rate card on this page. The honest reason is that a science booking from DIFC can be a single Paper 6 block or a two-year two-subject plan, and a single number would mislead either way. What is quoted is quoted after the trial lesson, in AED, for the specification your child is actually entered for. The trial lesson itself carries no charge and no card requirement.

The two series a UAE science candidate sits, counted backwards

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level exams in a June series and a November series. UAE candidates sit those two. The February series that appears in some tutoring material is offered to India only, and a Dubai family who plans around it will miss an entry deadline. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and in November.

Cambridge also allocates every exam centre to one of six administrative zones, and the timetable differs by zone. Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, and that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. Ask your child's exams officer which zone the school sits in before printing any timetable at home.

The dated anchors below come from Pearson's own timetable pages. The November 2026 Edexcel International GCSE final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, which is the pattern a November resit candidate should plan around.

Work the table from the bottom upwards. The exam is fixed, so everything else is a countdown: the last point at which a resit decision is useful, the last point at which an entry can be made, and the point at which paper practice has to replace topic teaching. For IB Diploma dates, confirm against ibo.org or your school's IB coordinator, because no IB session date in this project has been verified from the IB itself.

Why these searches say home tutor, and what is actually delivered

A large share of DIFC science searches use the phrase home tutor, and that phrase is worth answering honestly rather than redirecting. In the Dubai market, an in-home science tutor is quoted at roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, with travel time priced inside the rate. The practical reality in this corridor is that an evening visit from Al Quoz or Jumeirah to a Gate Village tower absorbs a meaningful part of the hour you pay for.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. Every UAE booking is delivered as one-to-one live video tuition. That is a limit, and stating it plainly is more useful than discovering it at the booking stage. What it buys is the thing a DIFC family cannot get from a travel radius: a tutor matched to the exact syllabus code rather than to a postcode.

The trade is specific. A Cambridge 0654 double-award candidate with a weak physics third needs someone who has taught that exact combination through a full series. The number of people who have done that and who can reach DIFC by 17:00 on a Tuesday is small. The number who can open a screen share at 17:00 on a Tuesday is much larger, and the second group is where the specialist actually is.

There is a second, quieter advantage for an apartment family. A video lesson needs a quiet corner and a stable connection rather than a spare room and a visitor, and it ends when it ends rather than when a tutor's next booking across town dictates. For a household with two working parents on office hours, that is often the deciding factor rather than the price.

08

KHDA, the mandatory subjects and what they do to a Year 11 timetable

Dubai's private schools are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi has ADEK, Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Naming the right body matters, because the rules differ by emirate.

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are mandatory in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. KHDA also requires separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, stating that combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ.

That has a direct timetable effect on a science candidate. Mandatory-subject instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and KHDA advises a minimum of 25 minutes for any mandatory-subject lesson. Those periods sit inside the same week as three sciences, which is why Year 11 science revision so often has to happen outside school hours rather than inside a free period.

One caution worth stating directly. IB Gram is not KHDA approved, accredited or licensed, and no page on this site should be read as claiming otherwise. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific authorisation issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai, which is a different legal animal from an individual online tutor. Any provider describing its tutors as regulator-approved should be asked to show the permit number.

09

Academic honesty in science: what a tutor may and may not do

Science at IGCSE carries less assessed coursework than the IB Diploma, but the boundary still matters, and it matters more where a student also does a school science project or a Year 11 investigation. A tutor may teach method, explain a technique, model an analysis on different data, mark a draft against published criteria and explain why a mark was lost. A tutor may not produce the work.

The distinction is not a style preference. Work submitted for assessment must be the student's own, and a tutor who writes a lab report or an investigation hands the student a malpractice risk that sits with the student, not the tutor. There are operators in this market selling completed Internal Assessments at a set price. That is an academic-integrity breach, and no part of what IB Gram offers includes it.

In practice the line is easy to hold once it is named. A session on a science investigation looks like this: the student explains their method, the tutor asks the questions a marker would ask, the student identifies what is missing, and the student makes the changes. The tutor's notes record what was discussed rather than what was written, so a school asking how the work was supported gets a clear answer.

Nor will any tutor here supply board material as a download. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to Cambridge, Pearson and the IB, and the correct handling is to reference them and link to the official page. A provider offering a bundled pack of mark schemes is reproducing copyright material and should be treated with suspicion.

10

Starting from DIFC, and what is not being claimed

The first step is the syllabus code. Send the subject, the code from the top of your child's paper or report, the tier if it is a Cambridge science, the school and the series they are entered for. That is enough to say honestly whether a specialist in that specification is free in the slot you need, and if the answer is no, the answer will be no rather than a substitution.

The trial lesson follows, at no charge and with no card requirement. It is a working session rather than a sales call: a diagnostic on a past-paper question set, a short conversation with you afterwards about what the paper actually showed, and a written plan naming the components and topics the first six sessions will cover. If the fit is wrong, nothing further is booked.

After that, sessions run weekly on Gulf Standard Time with the same tutor, work set between lessons from the correct board's papers, and a topic log you can read. Marking is to the published mark scheme with the mark allocation shown, because a parent who can see where two marks went is in a far better position than one holding a percentage.

What is not being claimed: no grade outcome, no regulator approval, no UAE office, no partnership with any school named on this page, and no statistic about past students that could not be produced with its sample size and method. Tutoring is also not a requirement for Ministry of Education equivalency, for university admission or for school progression, and any page suggesting otherwise is selling urgency rather than teaching.

Where we tutor

Where DIFC families live, and the areas next to them

DIFC sits in the middle of Dubai's central corridor, and its residential towers share schools with the districts on either side. The notes below describe what each neighbourhood does to a science session, not what it looks like.

DIFC: Gate Village, Index and Central Park

Apartment living with working parents on office hours. Sessions land best between 16:30 and 19:00, after the school run and before a late family dinner. Quiet-room availability matters more here than anywhere else in this corridor.

Downtown Dubai

A short hop from DIFC but a long one at 17:00 on a weekday. Downtown families share the Al Quoz and Al Safa school intake with DIFC, which is why the two neighbourhoods tend to ask the same science questions.

Business Bay

Dense towers either side of the canal, with a mix of British and Indian-curriculum pupils. Many Business Bay children sit 0610, 0620 and 0625 at Al Quoz campuses and finish the day at a similar hour to DIFC pupils.

Al Quoz and Al Quoz 4

Where several of the British-curriculum campuses serving this corridor actually sit. A DIFC child schooled in Al Quoz is typically home by 15:45, which sets the realistic start of a weekday science session.

Al Jaddaf and Culture Village

Creekside towers feeding both international and British campuses. The bridge crossing adds real minutes in the evening peak, so Al Jaddaf families more often take a 19:00 slot than a 17:00 one.

Meydan and Nad Al Sheba

Villa communities with a longer school run and later arrival home. Science sessions here work better at the weekend in double blocks than squeezed into a weekday evening before homework.

Sobha Hartland

Two campuses inside the community itself, so the school run is short and a 16:00 session is genuinely possible. Hartland families often run two science subjects in the same week during Year 11.

Mohammed Bin Rashid City

Newer villa stock between Meydan and Al Quoz with a broad school spread. Because intake is split across campuses, two neighbours can be sitting Cambridge and Edexcel versions of the same science.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in DIFC

British-curriculum campuses this corridor feeds into

These are the schools where DIFC, Downtown and Business Bay pupils most often sit IGCSE sciences. Each sets its own option block and chooses its own exam board, which is why the code on the paper is the first thing a tutor should ask for.

  • Safa British School, Al Quoz
  • Citizens School, Al Quoz
  • Hartland International School, Sobha Hartland
  • Kent College Dubai, Nad Al Sheba
  • Jumeirah College, Al Safa
  • GEMS Wellington International School, Al Sufouh
  • Dubai British School Jumeirah Park
  • Repton School Dubai, Al Barsha

IB and dual-pathway campuses nearby

Families weighing a post-16 move into the Diploma often look at these campuses while their child is still in Year 10, which changes how much data-handling work a science tutor should build into the IGCSE year.

  • North London Collegiate School Dubai, Sobha Hartland
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai, Al Jaddaf
  • Jumeira Baccalaureate School, Al Safa
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai, Al Barsha
  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha

Schools are named here as the local education context for families in this area; IB Gram claims no affiliation with, endorsement from, or partnership with any school listed.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the code, not just the subject

Share the syllabus code, the tier, the school and the exam series. Cambridge 0620 Extended and Edexcel 4CH1 need different tutors, and naming the code at the start removes the most common cause of wasted early sessions in this market.

  2. 02

Specification-level match or a straight no

The match is made against the specification your child sits, not against a general science brief. Where no specialist in that code is free in your slot, that is what you are told, with the realistic wait, rather than a tutor who will learn the paper alongside your child.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson with a diagnostic

A working session with past-paper questions, followed by a short conversation about what the answers showed. No charge, no card. You end it with a written plan naming the components and topics the first six sessions will cover, and you can decline at that point.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions with marked work between

A fixed slot on Gulf Standard Time with the same tutor. Work set from the correct board's past papers, marked to the published mark scheme with mark allocations shown, and logged by topic so you can see what has genuinely been covered rather than what was intended.

  5. 05

    Review after each school assessment

School mocks and internal papers are the external check on whether the plan is working. After each one, the topic plan is rewritten against the marks lost, and the session pattern changes if two sciences now need splitting differently across the week.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The code comes first

Cambridge 0610, 0620, 0625, 0653 and 0654 and Edexcel 4BI1, 4CH1, 4PH1 and 4SD0 are treated as separate qualifications with separate paper structures, because that is what they are. The first question asked is which one your child sits.

Practical components are taught, not skipped

Cambridge Paper 5 and Paper 6 carry roughly a fifth of the grade and get the least classroom rehearsal. Data-handling, table design and error work are taught over a shared screen with real data sets, which is where the fastest mark gains usually sit.

Rates are attributed, never asserted

Every AED figure on this page names the provider that published it, so you can read the original. No figure here is presented as an IB Gram price, and nothing is quoted until after the trial lesson, when the actual scope of work is known.

Delivery is stated plainly

Lessons for UAE families run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not run home visits in the UAE, and that limit is stated before booking rather than after, because a family deciding on format deserves the real answer.

Boundaries that protect the student

No grade guarantees, no regulator approval claimed, no board material redistributed, and no production of assessed work. A tutor teaches, questions, marks and explains; the investigation, the report and the exam answers remain the student's own.

Availability is disclosed

Niche combinations such as a double-award candidate with a single weak discipline are genuinely harder to staff. Where the wait is three weeks, the answer is three weeks, with the option of a different session pattern in the meantime rather than a weaker match now.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in DIFC: your questions answered

Should my child sit IGCSE science at Core or Extended tier?+

Only Cambridge syllabuses are tiered; Edexcel International GCSE sciences are untiered, so the question does not arise there. For Cambridge, Extended covers more content and carries a higher grade ceiling, while Core caps the attainable grade. Schools usually enter candidates for Extended by default and reconsider individual students after the Year 10 internal examinations, based on paper performance rather than classwork. If a tier review is coming, the months before it are the most valuable tutoring window in the whole course, because the evidence the decision rests on is exactly what timed paper practice improves.

Do your tutors cover both Cambridge and Edexcel IGCSE science?+

Yes, but as separate specifications rather than one subject. Cambridge Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625 are tiered and assess practical skill through Paper 5 or Paper 6. Edexcel 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1 are untiered and embed experimental questions inside the written papers. The teaching plan, the past papers set and the mark scheme used all follow the code your child is entered for. The first thing asked at booking is which code appears on their paper, because preparing a candidate for the wrong board's paper structure wastes the hours you are paying for.

How is the science practical assessed if lessons happen online?+

The practical component is set and marked by the school as exam centre and by the board, not by a tutor, so online delivery does not affect how it is assessed. Cambridge candidates sit either Paper 5, a supervised practical test, or Paper 6, the alternative to practical. Paper 6 is entirely paper-based: table design, data handling, graph work, anomaly identification and error analysis. All of that is teachable over a shared screen with real data sets. For Paper 5, a tutor rehearses recording, significant figures and layout, which is where most of the marks are lost rather than in apparatus use.

Which IGCSE science subjects do Dubai students struggle with most?+

Across bookings from this corridor, chemistry calculations and physics electricity come up most often, followed by biology genetics notation. In chemistry the recurring losses are mole conversions performed at the wrong step and electrolysis products named without the electrode. In physics it is unit conversion inside multi-step questions rather than conceptual confusion. In biology it is the transport-in-plants sequence and genetic crosses written without the notation the mark scheme expects. None of these is diagnosable from a report card, which is why the first fortnight of any booking is spent on marked past papers.

My child struggles with electricity in physics. Can that be fixed before the exams?+

Usually yes, because electricity is one of the most tractable topics in the syllabus. The marks are lost in a small number of repeatable places: series and parallel resistance treated interchangeably, current and potential difference confused in a circuit diagram, and power calculations where the unit conversion happens before rather than after the substitution. Those are habits rather than gaps, and habits respond quickly to timed question sets with immediate marking. A four to six session block on circuits, with past-paper questions from the correct syllabus code, is the usual shape.

What are the hardest topics in IGCSE Chemistry Extended?+

Moles and stoichiometry, electrolysis and organic reaction conditions account for most of the mark loss at Extended tier. Moles cause trouble because the conversion step moves depending on what the question gives you. Electrolysis costs marks when a product is named without the electrode it forms at. Organic questions cost marks when conditions are omitted from an equation. There is also a presentation issue running through all three: missing state symbols and dropped units cost final marks even where the chemistry is right, which is why marking to the published scheme matters more than re-teaching.

Is it better to take three separate sciences or Co-ordinated Science?+

It depends on the post-16 plan rather than on current attainment. Co-ordinated Science as a double award gives two grades from roughly two thirds of the separate-science content and leaves an option slot free. Separate sciences give three grades at full depth. Neither closes off A Level or IB Diploma science, but a student moving from 0654 into A Level Chemistry has real content gaps to close over the summer. If an engineering or medical pathway is in view, a more useful question is which single separate science could be dropped, keeping the other two at full depth.

How much does an IGCSE science tutor in DIFC cost per hour?+

Published Dubai rates run from roughly AED 33 to AED 65 an hour for platform and university-student tutors, AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, AED 200 to AED 450 and above for an IGCSE or IB specialist, and AED 500 to AED 650 at named or examiner tier. In-home visits are quoted at AED 180 to AED 500 because travel is priced inside the hour. Those are market figures from the providers that published them, not IB Gram prices. A quote here follows the free trial lesson, once the actual scope is known.

When are the IGCSE science exams held for a Dubai candidate?+

Cambridge International runs IGCSE in a June series and a November series, and UAE candidates sit those two. The February series sometimes mentioned in tutoring material is offered to India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November; the November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that using the correct zone timetable is essential. Ask your child's exams officer which zone the school sits in, and read the live timetable on the board's own site.

How many sessions a week does one science subject need?+

One weekly session of sixty to ninety minutes, with marked work between lessons, is the usual starting point for a Year 10 candidate with a specific topic weakness. Year 11 candidates in the term before a series often move to two. The limiting factor is rarely contact time; it is independent practice time, which is why a second weekly session sometimes produces less than the same hour spent on marked past papers. The pattern is reviewed after each school assessment and changed when the marks lost say it should change.

Can a science tutor come to our apartment in DIFC?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. Every UAE booking runs as one-to-one live video tuition on Gulf Standard Time. That limit is stated before booking rather than after. What it buys is a match on the syllabus code rather than on a travel radius: the number of tutors who have taught Cambridge 0654 through a full series and can also reach a Gate Village tower by five o'clock is small, while the number who can open a screen share at that hour is much larger.

Does a private science tutor in Dubai need a MoHRE permit?+

Individuals providing private tuition in the UAE need a MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website or e-services system. Anyone tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published.

For UAE equivalency, how many IGCSE subjects and which grades does a DIFC family need?+

On the British track, Ministry of Education equivalency requires a pass in five accredited subjects at GCSE or IGCSE with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic Education are not included among the five required subjects. One competitor page states six subjects, which is wrong. Verify the current rule on the Ministry's own site, because IB Gram does not perform equivalency and the process is not something any tutor guarantees.

Can a tutor help with a science school project or lab report?+

A tutor can teach the method, explain a technique, model an analysis on different data, ask the questions a marker would ask and mark a draft against the published criteria. A tutor cannot write it. Work submitted for assessment has to be the student's own, and a tutor who produces it hands the student a malpractice risk that sits with the student. In a session, the student explains their method, the tutor questions it, the student identifies what is missing and the student makes the change. Session notes record what was discussed rather than what was written.

What happens if no tutor covers my child's exact syllabus code?+

You are told that, with a realistic wait, rather than matched to someone who will learn the paper alongside your child. Separate sciences at Cambridge and Edexcel are well covered. The harder requests are double-award candidates needing one weak discipline addressed, and combinations where a specific tier and a specific evening slot have to coincide. Where the wait is a few weeks, the usual interim is a different session pattern, such as a practical-skills block that is board-neutral in parts, rather than a weaker match now that has to be unwound later.

Start with the code on the paper

If you take one thing from this page, make it the first question. Find your child's syllabus code, the tier if it is a Cambridge science, and the series they are entered for, and ask any tutor you are considering to tell you what the paper structure is before they quote you a rate. A tutor who answers that without looking it up is the tutor you want. To book a free trial lesson with IB Gram, send the code, the school and the slot you need, and you will get a straight answer on availability for that specification, delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
