IB Maths Tutor in DIFC

Hiring an IB maths tutor in DIFC is a spending decision before it is an academic one, and the two are rarely discussed together. Four different courses, three paper types, a twenty per cent Exploration and a two-year horizon mean the same budget can produce very different results depending on where it is pointed. This page sets out where a Diploma mathematics dirham buys the most, with published Dubai rates and their sources. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in DIFC

The same budget, pointed at four different things

A DIFC family deciding what to spend on Diploma mathematics is working almost blind. Three of the six largest providers in this market publish no price at all. Two quote in US dollars. One publishes an hourly figure in its page copy that contradicts the price range in its own structured data. And none of them tells you the thing that actually determines value, which is that IB mathematics is four separate courses with four different support profiles, and that a fifth of every grade sits in a component most tutoring is never pointed at.

So this page is written from cost. It asks where a Diploma mathematics dirham produces the most grade movement, which components respond fastest to paid hours, why Higher Level Analysis and Approaches is genuinely more expensive to support than Standard Level Applications and Interpretation, and what no budget in this market can buy at any price. The published Dubai rates are here too, each attributed to the provider or publication that stated it and the month it was read, because a sourced band in dirhams is useful on its own whoever you end up buying from.

The structural point first, because everything else follows from it. Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches and Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation each run at Higher and Standard Level. Standard Level is built around 150 recommended teaching hours and Higher Level around 240. Standard Level students sit two written papers; Higher Level students sit three. All four courses carry the Exploration at twenty per cent. A budget aimed at the wrong course teaches the right mathematics at the wrong level of abstraction, and nobody notices for several weeks.

DIFC adds one cost variable worth naming. The district has no school inside it, so every Diploma student here commutes out, most often towards Al Safa, Sobha Hartland, Al Jaddaf or Al Barsha. Any in-home arrangement is therefore charging for a drive across central Dubai in the evening peak, into a district with structured parking and tower reception procedures. That is the most expensive logistics in the emirate and it buys nothing that would show on a marked script.

IB Gram delivers tuition to UAE families as one-to-one lessons over live video. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE and we have no office, branch or centre here; home visiting is a service we run only in India. We publish no UAE rate card on these pages, no satisfaction percentage, no average-score claim and no statistic we cannot support with a number, a date and a method. The free trial lesson exists so a DIFC family can see the teaching before any money is discussed. No IB examination or results date appears on this page either, because ibo.org does not permit automated verification and a date a parent plans around has to be right.

At a glance

  • Four IB maths courses, four different support costs; the match decides the value
  • Twenty per cent of every grade is the Exploration, and most tutoring is not pointed at it
  • Higher Level is built around 240 recommended teaching hours against 150 at Standard Level
  • Published Dubai rates span roughly AED 33 to AED 650 an hour
  • DIFC has no school inside the district, so the in-home premium is pure logistics
  • Lessons are one-to-one over live video; home visits are an India-only service
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Spending on Diploma mathematics splits across three distinct decisions, each with a different price and a different return. These are the ones in play for a DIFC family.

DP1Ages 16-17 · Year 12

DP1 mathematics, the cheap year

The year where support is cheapest per unit of effect, because content is being met for the first time and gaps have not compounded. It is also the year in which the course and level decision can still be changed, which is the largest financial variable in the whole two years. A student in the wrong course discovered in October has options; the same student discovered in May of DP2 does not.

In Dubai the Diploma sits under KHDA inspection. A DIFC family's DP1 student commutes to campuses in Al Safa, Sobha Hartland, Al Jaddaf or Al Barsha, and the short westward run means a 4pm session is genuinely achievable here, which is the cheapest hour to secure because the rest of the emirate is competing for 5pm to 7pm.

DP2Ages 17-18 · Year 13

DP2 mathematics, the expensive year

Where most families actually spend, and where each dirham buys less. Content teaching is complete, the Exploration deadline has usually passed, predicted grades have been issued, and the work is converting existing knowledge into marks under time pressure. That is valuable and it is narrower than it sounds, which is why a DP2 budget should be sized as a block rather than a retainer.

DP2 in Dubai contains the mock window, the university application cycle and the predicted-grade decision, all before the May session. For a DIFC family the practical consequence is that DP2 evenings are the most contested of the two years and the slots that hold for a full term are 4pm, after 7.30pm and weekend mornings.

IADP1 into DP2

The Exploration, bought separately

Twenty per cent of the grade in all four courses, assessed on five criteria out of twenty marks. It is the component where a small number of paid hours produces the largest proportional movement, because most students approach it without having read the criteria. It is also the component with the hardest boundary: a tutor may explain, discuss and give feedback, and may not write, draft or complete any part of it.

The Exploration deadline is set internally by the school and typically falls well before the examination term, which means it competes with content teaching rather than following it. Confirm your own school's internal date, because it determines when this spending is useful and when it is too late to be.

ENTRYAges 14-16

Before DP1: the IGCSE and MYP foundation

The cheapest point in the entire sequence and the one almost nobody buys. Extended tier Cambridge 0580 or Higher tier Pearson Edexcel 4MA1 is the realistic prerequisite for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level; Additional Mathematics is better preparation again. A term of algebraic fluency work before DP1 costs a fraction of two years of catch-up afterwards.

Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places. A wider sixth-form choice makes the IGCSE mathematics tier more consequential rather than less, because more doors are open to be closed by it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Not every part of a Diploma mathematics course responds equally to paid hours. The list below runs roughly from the best to the worst value for a constrained budget, which is a different ordering from the one a syllabus would give.

Mark-scheme literacy

All four courses

Method marks, accuracy marks, reasoning marks and follow-through. The best value item in the whole course: three or four sessions, and it recovers marks the student was already earning mathematically and discarding on the page. A bare wrong answer scores nothing even with a perfect unwritten method, which is the mechanism nobody explains.

Three-significant-figure discipline

Calculator-permitted papers

Answers given to three significant figures unless the question states otherwise. A correct method followed by an over-rounded answer loses the accuracy mark with the mathematics entirely right. Across a full paper this is several marks, it costs about two weeks of deliberate practice, and it is the cheapest grade movement available anywhere in the Diploma.

The Exploration criteria

20% in all four courses

Five criteria, twenty marks, and most students have never read the descriptors. A small number of hours spent on what each criterion actually rewards, plus a topic-viability conversation before weeks are invested, produces the largest proportional movement per dirham in the course. Confirm the current descriptors with the school.

Paper 1 non-calculator fluency

Analysis and Approaches

No graphical display calculator is permitted in Analysis and Approaches Paper 1, which carries forty per cent at Standard Level and thirty at Higher. Students who revise with a calculator are practising an unavailable skill. Rebuilding by-hand fluency is six to ten weeks, which is a real cost but a well-defined one.

Command-term reading

All four courses

Hence is an instruction to use the previous part, not a transition word; write down means no working is wanted; show that constrains the method. Teaching a student to read these as instructions is short work with a disproportionate effect across a whole paper, which makes it high value per session.

Higher Level Paper 3 technique

Higher Level only, 20%

Two extended multi-part problems building towards an unfamiliar result. It rewards reading the whole question first and using earlier parts in later ones, which is technique rather than knowledge. Moderate cost because it needs real papers worked to time, and high value because a fifth of the grade is usually unpractised.

Logarithms, exponents and binomial expansion

All courses, Number and algebra

Students can state the laws and cannot apply them in reverse, and the binomial general term is misremembered with negative or fractional indices. A genuine teaching block rather than a technique fix, so the cost is weeks rather than sessions, but the marks are reliable and recur every series.

Radian measure and calculator mode

Geometry and trigonometry

A calculator left in degree mode produces plausible wrong answers that nothing flags, so students repeat the error across a whole paper. Checking mode is a habit, not a skill, which makes this one of the cheapest repairs in the course and one of the most commonly ignored.

Calculus technique at Higher Level AA

Analysis and Approaches HL

Integration by substitution and by parts, implicit differentiation, differential equations. The genuinely expensive part of IB mathematics to support, because the difficulty is in choosing the approach rather than executing it, and that judgement is built over weeks of worked problems rather than taught in a session.

Statistics in Applications and Interpretation HL

Applications and Interpretation HL

Substantial statistical content that Analysis and Approaches students never meet, including hypothesis testing. Expensive to support not because it is hard but because the specialist pool is the narrowest of the four courses, which affects availability and therefore what a family ends up paying.

Graphical display calculator skill

Papers 2 and 3

Solving numerically, finding intersections, working with distributions and regression functions. Each is worth marks and students who use the device only for arithmetic leave them behind. Low cost to teach, rarely taught, and almost never the thing a family thinks they are buying.

General content revision

All courses

Listed last deliberately. Open-ended content revision with no diagnosis behind it is the lowest-value purchase in this market, because it spends paid hours on material the school is already covering and a textbook already contains. It is also what most untargeted weekly retainers quietly become.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to point a Diploma mathematics budget, ordered by return rather than by intensity, plus a plain statement of what we do not provide in the UAE.

A short high-yield block

Six to ten sessions aimed at the items that move fastest: mark-scheme literacy, rounding discipline, command-term reading, calculator mode and the Exploration criteria. None of these is content, all of them are worth marks on every paper, and together they often account for a grade boundary. This is the highest return per dirham available in Diploma mathematics and almost nobody buys it as a distinct product.

  • Six to ten sessions with a defined endpoint
  • Aimed at mark types and technique rather than content
  • Diagnosed from marked papers before the block is agreed
  • Free trial lesson first, with no card required

Weekly support from early DP1

One session a week alongside the school's scheme of work, which is cheaper per unit of effect than any DP2 arrangement because gaps never compound into projects. It also keeps the course and level decision reviewable during the weeks when it can still be changed, which is the largest single financial variable across the two years.

  • Follows the school's scheme of work week by week
  • Keeps the course and level decision reviewable early
  • Spreads the cost across two years rather than one term
  • Reviewed at six weeks against marked papers

Exploration process coaching, bought separately

A small number of sessions on the component carrying twenty per cent of the grade: what each criterion rewards, whether a proposed topic can support the level of mathematics the course requires, and feedback on the student's own draft. The student writes every word and performs every calculation. Nothing is written, drafted, completed or edited to completion by a tutor.

  • Criteria explained by letter with the marks attached
  • Topic viability tested before weeks are invested
  • Feedback on the student's draft; no text ever supplied
  • Scheduled against the school's internal deadline

What we do not offer in the UAE

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the United Arab Emirates. There is no visit to a DIFC apartment, no tutor at a tower reception and no centre to drive to; home visiting is a service we run only in India. We also do not write or complete assessed work, do not distribute IB subject guides, past papers or mark schemes, and do not quote a fee for the MoHRE private tuition permit, because it is free.

  • No in-home visits anywhere in the UAE
  • No UAE office, branch or tuition centre
  • No assessed work written, completed or edited to completion
  • No grade guarantees, no predicted-score promises, no invented statistics

01

Where a Diploma mathematics dirham buys the most

The most useful thing a cost-focused page can publish is a ranking of components by grade movement per paid hour, because no provider in this market publishes one and the ranking is not what families assume. The expensive items are not the hard ones. They are the cumulative ones.

At the top sit the mark-type items. Method marks reward a correct approach even where the arithmetic fails; accuracy marks reward the correctly rounded value; reasoning marks reward an explicit justification; follow-through marks let a later answer earn credit from an earlier wrong value. A student who does not know this writes solutions that discard marks while arriving at correct answers. Three or four sessions, and the effect appears in the next marked paper. Nothing else in the course comes close on return.

Then rounding discipline, command-term reading and calculator mode, each a habit rather than a skill, each worth marks on nearly every paper, each repairable in weeks. Then the Exploration criteria, where a handful of hours produces the largest proportional movement in the course because most students have never read the descriptors. Only after all of that do the genuine teaching blocks appear: logarithm manipulation, binomial expansion with awkward indices, and at Higher Level Analysis and Approaches the calculus technique, which is the one genuinely expensive thing in IB mathematics.

The practical consequence for a DIFC family with a limited budget is counterintuitive. Spend the first ten sessions on things that are not mathematics, then reassess. If the marks have moved a grade boundary's worth, which happens more often than this market admits, the expensive teaching block may not be needed at all. A provider that proposes a year of content revision before reading a marked paper is not advising you.

Four courses, four different price profiles

Supply explains more about IB maths pricing in Dubai than quality does. Standard Level Applications and Interpretation has the largest tutor pool of the four courses, because the content is the most widely taught and the most transferable from other systems. Higher Level Analysis and Approaches has a substantially smaller pool, because it requires sustained calculus technique and a Paper 3 nobody teaches casually. Higher Level Applications and Interpretation has the smallest pool of all, because its statistical content is met by almost nobody outside that course.

That is why the same provider can quote the same hourly rate for all four and deliver very different matches. A rate card that does not distinguish between the four courses is telling you that the provider matches on subject rather than on course, which is the single most expensive assumption a DIFC family can make. The right question to any provider is not what they charge but which of the four courses the named tutor has actually taught, and how recently.

The second cost driver is the recommended teaching hours. Standard Level is built around 150 and Higher Level around 240, which is roughly sixty per cent more taught content. A Higher Level student needing content support therefore needs proportionally more of it, and a family budgeting for Higher Level on a Standard Level estimate will run out partway through. Confirm every assessment detail against the current IB subject guide your school holds, because the IB revises them on a cycle.

The third is Paper 3, which exists only at Higher Level and carries twenty per cent. It needs real papers worked to time and marked, which is session-expensive rather than explanation-expensive. A Higher Level budget that has not allocated sessions to Paper 3 has left a fifth of the grade unpractised while paying for the other four fifths, and in our experience that is the most common structural error in Diploma mathematics spending.

The Exploration is the cheapest twenty per cent in the Diploma

  • Five criteria, twenty marks, twenty per cent of the grade in all four courses
  • Most students have never read the descriptors, so the gap is informational
  • Mathematics below the course level caps the mark regardless of writing quality
  • Nothing written, drafted or completed by a tutor, ever, at any price

Twenty per cent of every IB mathematics grade comes from one piece of individual written work, assessed on five criteria for a total of twenty marks: presentation, mathematical communication, personal engagement, reflection and use of mathematics. Use of mathematics carries the largest allocation; personal engagement and reflection the smallest. Confirm the current descriptors with your child's teacher, since the IB revises them.

The reason this is the best value component in the course is that most students arrive at it without having read the descriptors, so the gap between their work and the upper bands is informational rather than mathematical. Three to five sessions on what each criterion actually rewards, plus one conversation about whether a proposed topic can support the level of mathematics the course requires, routinely produces more movement than ten sessions of content revision. A fifth of the grade, addressed for the price of a short block.

The predictable losses are worth naming because they are all avoidable. Use of mathematics suffers when the chosen mathematics sits below the course level, and a Higher Level Exploration built on Standard Level statistics cannot reach the top bands however well written. Reflection suffers because students summarise what they did instead of explaining what a result implies and where the model fails. Personal engagement suffers when the topic is generic, since engagement has to be visible in the choices made rather than asserted in an introduction.

The boundary is absolute and it protects your child rather than us. A tutor may explain each criterion, discuss structure, judge topic viability and give feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor may not write the text, supply sentences, perform the calculations or edit the piece to completion. A malpractice finding falls on the student and can cost the Diploma. There is a provider operating in this market that sells completed Internal Assessments; that offer is the most expensive thing a family can buy here, whatever the invoice says.

DP1 money against DP2 money

  • DP1 spending is cheaper per unit of effect and keeps the course decision open
  • DP2 spending is conversion work: narrower, valuable, and best bought as a block
  • The Exploration is addressable in DP1 and usually past help by DP2
  • An open-ended retainer with no diagnosis is the default and the worst option

The same amount spent in DP1 and in DP2 does different work, and families overwhelmingly spend in DP2. The reasons are understandable: the exams are visible, the predicted grades have landed, and anxiety is a better salesman than foresight. But the arithmetic favours the earlier year substantially.

In DP1, support is consolidation in real time. The topic taught this week is practised with a specialist this week, so gaps never compound. The course and level decision is still reviewable, which means a student in the wrong course can move rather than be supported indefinitely in the wrong place. And the Exploration can be addressed at the proposal stage, when a twenty-minute conversation about topic viability saves a month of misdirected work.

In DP2, content teaching is finished, the Exploration deadline has usually passed, and the available work is conversion: timing, mark types, rounding, Paper 3 technique. That work is genuinely valuable and it is narrower. It also sits in the most contested evenings of the two years, competing with five other subjects, the core, and the university application cycle. A DP2 budget should therefore be sized as a defined block with a review date, not as a retainer that runs to the examination.

One practical consequence for DIFC families specifically. If you are reading this in DP1, the cheapest effective purchase is a short high-yield block now plus a small Exploration block at the proposal stage, and then a decision at six weeks. If you are reading this in DP2, the cheapest effective purchase is a diagnosis from marked papers followed by a block aimed at mark types and Paper 3. In neither case is the answer an open-ended weekly arrangement with no diagnosis behind it, which is nonetheless what most of this market sells.

05

What no budget in this market can buy

  • No grade, points total or admission can be guaranteed by anyone
  • Examiner status confers no usable access to marking or paper content
  • A completed Exploration is a malpractice risk carried by the student
  • No regulator approval for tutoring is held here, and none is claimed

A cost page should be honest about the ceiling. Several things are sold in this market that cannot be delivered, and knowing them protects a family more than any rate comparison.

A grade cannot be bought. No provider can guarantee a 7, a points total, a grade improvement or university admission, and any offer of that kind should end the conversation. Nor can access to marking, grade boundaries or unseen paper content be bought: tutors described as examiners are frequently described that way without evidence of current status, and examiner status in any case confers no access to material a student could use. We do not describe tutors as examiners without evidence, and we do not imply such access exists.

A completed Exploration cannot legitimately be bought, and the fact that it can be purchased somewhere does not make it available to you safely. The consequence of that purchase falls on the student as a malpractice finding and can cost the Diploma. Published syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables also cannot be bought from us, because reproducing them is a copyright matter and, for unreleased material, a malpractice exposure. Your child's school has legitimate access to all of them, free.

Nor can regulatory standing be bought in the way this market implies. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry of Education, MoHRE, IB or Cambridge accreditation, licence, approval or partnership, and we would never describe ourselves as approved by any of them. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific authorisation issued to training institutes with premises, which we do not operate in the UAE. The phrase that should make a DIFC parent cautious is any claim of regulator approval for tutoring, because it is the easiest claim to make and the hardest to substantiate.

06

The published Dubai rates, cheapest workable option first

Starting from the bottom is the right order for a cost page, because the useful question is the cheapest option that actually works rather than the best option available. At the budget end of online tutoring, Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. For a short high-yield block on mark types and rounding, a competent tutor at the lower bands can deliver real movement, provided they can name the course and level they have taught.

Above that, Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 an hour and IGCSE from AED 150 for a qualified subject tutor online. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts IB, IGCSE and A-Level specialist tutoring at AED 200 to 450 or more per hour, and in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to 350, with independent home tutors reaching AED 200 to 500 once travel is priced in. TutorChase quotes AED 270 for specialist work and BartyED AED 650 at the premium named-tutor end. Monthly packages in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 budget, AED 600 to 1,200 mid and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Each figure belongs to the provider or publication named with it and was read in October 2026.

Where the budget bands stop working is Higher Level content teaching, particularly Analysis and Approaches calculus and Higher Level Applications and Interpretation statistics. Those sit at the specialist end of every published scale, and a Higher Level rate quoted at the budget end is a prompt to ask which of the four courses the tutor has taught and when. The scarcity is real rather than manufactured: the pools for those two courses are genuinely small in this market.

IB Gram does not publish a UAE rate card on these pages and does not present any of these figures as ours. For wider budget context, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion, with a total package value of AED 2.5 billion.

Provider models compared on what the money covers

Two quotes at the same hourly rate in Dubai are frequently not the same purchase, because the delivery model differs and almost nobody states the inclusions. Comparing models rather than brands is both fairer and more useful, and it is the comparison this market never publishes.

A specialist agency typically matches carefully and charges for it, and the questions worth asking are whether you get the same tutor each week and what the replacement policy is. An international marketplace offers breadth and price competition, with the trade-off that the match is often to a subject rather than to one of the four IB maths courses. A freelance tutor can be excellent value and carries the permit question directly rather than through an intermediary. A tuition centre with premises charges less per hour for a group and cannot diagnose from your child's marked papers or work to their specific course.

The permit position differs by model and is checkable. The MoHRE private tutor work permit is granted free of charge for two years and covers teachers registered in schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. A tuition centre with premises in Dubai is a different legal arrangement and requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry.

The questions that make any two quotes comparable are short. Is the rate per clock hour or per session of unstated length? Is marking of full timed papers included? Is it the same named tutor each week, and what happens if the match is wrong? What is the cancellation window? Is the first session chargeable? And is the figure quoted the figure that will appear on the invoice? Those six answers, in writing, turn an incomparable set of quotes into a decision.

Coverage, matching and the cheapest honest first step

  • All four courses covered; HL Applications and Interpretation is the narrowest
  • No cross-course substitution at Higher Level; a mismatch is declared, not papered over
  • DIFC's short school run makes 4pm and 4.30pm the easiest slots to hold
  • Course, component marks and the internal Exploration deadline: free, and decisive

Coverage for Diploma mathematics is genuinely uneven across the four courses, and saying so is more useful than implying otherwise. Standard Level Applications and Interpretation and Standard Level Analysis and Approaches are reliably covered. Higher Level Analysis and Approaches is covered and fills first. Higher Level Applications and Interpretation is the narrowest of the four and may require a wait or an alternative hour. We will not match a Higher Level Applications and Interpretation student to an Analysis and Approaches tutor on the theory that the overlap is sufficient, because at Higher Level it is not.

The scarce resource beyond that is the hour. The 5pm to 7pm Gulf Standard Time window is contested across the whole emirate. DIFC's short westward school run is a real advantage here: a 4pm or 4.30pm start is achievable from the Al Safa and Sobha Hartland clusters, and those are the easiest hours in the central corridor to hold for a full term. Taking an available slot immediately usually beats waiting three weeks for a preferred one.

The cheapest honest first step costs nothing. Confirm which of the four courses your child is enrolled on, from the school's course selection letter or the student's timetable. Ask the school for component-level marks rather than the overall grade. Note the school's internal Exploration deadline. Those three items turn a guess into a diagnosis, and a diagnosis is what decides whether the right purchase is six sessions or sixty.

Then take the free trial. It is a taught session rather than a sales call, no card is required, and it should end with a written note naming which mark types are being lost, which of the common loss points are active, and what the first four weeks would address. That note is useful to you whether or not you book, and it is the only way to compare two providers on something other than their rate card. If the honest conclusion is that your child does not need a tutor, we will say so.

DIFC and the journey an in-home premium pays for

The in-home rate in this district is priced against a specific drive. These are the directions a DIFC Diploma family travels, with what each does to the cost and to the usable evening.

DIFC

A financial district with residential towers and no school inside it. Structured parking and tower reception procedures add minutes that are billed inside any in-home hour. The short westward run makes a 4pm session achievable here.

Al Safa and Al Wasl

The nearest established cluster west of the canal, fifteen to twenty minutes outside peak. The cheapest direction in time terms and the one that makes the early session slot genuinely usable.

Sobha Hartland

Creek-side and home to North London Collegiate School Dubai and Hartland International School. Five to twelve minutes from DIFC outside peak, which is the shortest Diploma school run available in the central corridor.

Al Jaddaf

Home to Swiss International Scientific School Dubai and a genuinely mixed curriculum catchment. Confirming the exact IB maths course a student is enrolled on matters more here than anywhere else nearby before money is committed.

Downtown Dubai

Immediately adjacent and operationally identical for school-run purposes. A tutor driving from Downtown to DIFC in the evening peak is charging a premium for a journey short in distance and long in minutes.

Al Quoz

Several campuses inside a district that is slow to cross in the evening. Later arrival home, a shorter usable evening, and therefore a higher effective cost per usable hour.

Al Barsha and Umm Al Sheif

A longer run west along Sheikh Zayed Road to several established IB campuses. The highest travel component any DIFC in-home arrangement would attract and the clearest case of paying for logistics.

Business Bay

One canal crossing away, also without a school inside the district. DIFC and Business Bay face the same thin local specialist pool for any single IB maths course and level.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in DIFC

Sobha Hartland, Al Jaddaf and the Creek side

The closest Diploma provision to DIFC and the shortest return journeys, which is the one place where an in-home arrangement would carry a genuinely modest travel component. Mixed curricula, so the course must be confirmed rather than assumed.

  • North London Collegiate School Dubai
  • Hartland International School
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai
  • Dubai Modern Education School
  • GEMS Our Own Indian School, Al Quoz

Al Safa, Al Wasl and Jumeirah

The established cluster west of the canal, where a large share of DIFC's sixth-form students sit their Diploma or A Levels. Fifteen to thirty minutes depending on the hour, with the return slower than the outbound run.

  • Jumeirah College
  • Safa British School
  • Safa Community School
  • Horizon English School
  • Jumeirah English Speaking School, Jumeirah

Al Barsha, Al Quoz and the western corridor

The longest journeys from DIFC and therefore the highest travel component in any in-home quote. Also the widest spread of courses and levels, which makes a generic rate quote least meaningful in this direction.

  • Repton Al Barsha
  • Dubai Heights Academy
  • GEMS Wellington Academy, Al Khail
  • Credence High School
  • Kent College Dubai

Named schools appear as context for the neighbourhood's education ecosystem. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership, client relationship or endorsement arrangement with any school named on this page, and inclusion does not imply one.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Establish which of the four courses, free

The school's course selection letter or your child's timetable names it: Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, Higher or Standard Level. This determines who can teach them and therefore what the right rate is. A provider who does not ask this question before quoting is matching on subject rather than course.

  2. 02

Get component marks, not the overall grade

A 4 built on a weak Paper 1 and a solid Paper 2 needs a different and cheaper block than a 4 built evenly. Most Dubai schools report component marks. These numbers are free and they are what distinguish a ten-session purchase from a sixty-session one.

  3. 03

Note the school's internal Exploration deadline

Twenty per cent of the grade sits in the Exploration, and the cheapest point to address it is the proposal stage. If the deadline has passed, that spending option has closed and the budget should go elsewhere. One email establishes which situation you are in.

  4. 04

A short consultation on Gulf Standard Time

Fifteen to twenty minutes to decide where the budget should point: mark types and technique, the Exploration, or a genuine content block. If the evidence says six sessions rather than a year, or says no tutoring at all, that is what we will tell you.

  5. 05

A free trial that ends in a written note

A taught session producing a written list of which mark types are being lost and what the first four weeks would address. No card required. The note is the only basis on which two providers can be compared on something other than their advertised rate.

  6. 06

Buy a block with a review date, not a retainer

Agree a session count and a six-week review before the first lesson rather than after the tenth. The quiet renewal of an unreviewed weekly arrangement is how most tutoring money leaves a family in this market, and a date in the diary is the whole defence.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Pointed at the components that move

The first block targets mark-type literacy, rounding discipline, command-term reading and the Exploration criteria, because those produce the most grade movement per paid hour in Diploma mathematics. Content teaching comes after a diagnosis says it is needed, not before.

Rates published with their sources

Every AED figure here carries the provider or publication that stated it and the month it was read. Three of the six largest providers in this market publish no price, and two quote in US dollars, so a sourced band in dirhams is useful whoever you ultimately buy from.

Matched to one of four courses

Higher Level Analysis and Approaches and Higher Level Applications and Interpretation diverge enough that an approximate match wastes a term. We match to the course and level and say so when the specialist is not available, rather than substituting quietly.

No travel inside the price

Lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video to DIFC. No drive across central Dubai in the evening peak, no structured parking, no tower reception time inside the hour. Sessions also move in a message, which matters in a DP2 term full of mocks and deadlines.

Clear about the ceiling

No grade guarantee, no points promise, no examiner claim without evidence of current status, no implied access to marking or paper content, no completed coursework, and no regulator approval claimed. A page that states its limits is easier to check than one that has none.

Willing to recommend spending less

Where ten sessions on mark types would do what a year of content revision is being sold for, we will say so. A provider that never recommends a smaller purchase is selling rather than advising, and that is worth noticing before choosing one.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in DIFC: your questions answered

What should a DIFC family spend the first ten IB maths sessions on?+

On things that are not mathematics. Mark-type literacy, meaning method, accuracy, reasoning and follow-through marks, takes three or four sessions and recovers marks a student is already earning mathematically and discarding on the page. Three-significant-figure discipline takes two. Command-term reading takes two. Calculator mode takes one. Together these frequently account for a grade boundary's worth of marks on a Diploma paper. Reassess after that block: if the marks have moved, the expensive content teaching may not be needed at all, which is the cheapest possible outcome.

Why would a tutor charge the same rate for all four IB maths courses?+

Because they are matching on subject rather than on course, which is the most expensive assumption available in this purchase. Standard Level Applications and Interpretation has the largest specialist pool in this market; Higher Level Analysis and Approaches a noticeably smaller one; Higher Level Applications and Interpretation the smallest, because its statistical content is met by almost nobody outside that course. A single undifferentiated rate across all four tells you the provider has not thought about supply. Ask which of the four the named tutor has taught, and how recently.

Is the Exploration worth paying for separately?+

It is arguably the best value purchase in the whole course. The Exploration is twenty per cent of every IB maths grade and is assessed on five criteria for twenty marks, and most students approach it without having read the descriptors. That means the gap between their work and the upper bands is informational rather than mathematical, and three to five sessions on what each criterion rewards plus one topic-viability conversation produces more movement than ten sessions of content revision. Confirm the current descriptors with your child's teacher.

How early does Exploration support stop being useful?+

At the point the topic is locked in and weeks have been invested, the cheapest intervention has already passed. The highest-value conversation happens at the proposal stage, because a topic whose mathematics sits below the level of the course cannot reach the top bands however well the piece is written, and discovering that after four weeks of work is an expensive discovery. Ask your school for the internal deadline and work backwards from it. After the draft deadline, feedback on the student's own text is still legitimate and still useful, but the leverage is much smaller.

Does spending in Year 12 cost less than spending in Year 13?+

Per unit of effect, substantially less. In DP1 the work is consolidation in real time, so gaps never compound; the course and level decision is still reviewable, which is the largest financial variable across the two years; and the Exploration can be addressed at the proposal stage. In DP2, content teaching is complete, the Exploration deadline has usually passed, and the available work is conversion: timing, mark types, rounding and Paper 3. That is valuable and narrower, and it sits in the most contested evenings of the two years.

What makes Higher Level maths genuinely more expensive to support?+

Three things, all structural. Higher Level is built around 240 recommended teaching hours against 150 at Standard Level, so content support needs proportionally more of it. Paper 3 exists only at Higher Level and carries twenty per cent, and it needs real papers worked to time rather than explanation, which is session-expensive. And the specialist pools for the two Higher Level courses are smaller in this market, which affects availability and therefore price. Confirm all assessment detail against the current IB subject guide your school holds.

Is Paper 3 something we need to budget sessions for?+

Yes, and most families do not. Paper 3 is sat only by Higher Level students and carries twenty per cent of the grade. It consists of extended multi-part problems building towards an unfamiliar result, and it rewards reading the whole question before starting and using earlier parts in later ones. Many schemes of work leave it until the final term, so students meet it late and mismanage the time. A Higher Level budget with no Paper 3 allocation has paid for four fifths of the grade and left the remaining fifth unpractised.

Can we buy access to IB grade boundaries or examiner knowledge?+

No, and the offer should end the conversation. Tutors are frequently described as examiners without evidence of current status, and examiner status in any case confers no access to marking, boundaries or unseen paper content that a student could use. We do not describe tutors as examiners without evidence and do not imply such access exists. We also do not distribute IB subject guides, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables, because reproducing them is a copyright matter and, for unreleased material, a malpractice exposure. Your child's school has legitimate access to all of it.

What is the most expensive mistake a DIFC family can make in this market?+

Buying a completed Exploration. There is a provider operating in this space that sells finished assessed work, and the consequence of that purchase falls on the student as a malpractice finding, which can cost the Diploma. No invoice reflects that cost. The legitimate boundary is that a tutor may explain criteria, discuss structure, judge topic viability and give feedback on the student's own draft, and may not write text, supply sentences, perform the calculations or edit to completion. Any provider offering the second list is disqualified by the offer.

Does a cheaper online tutor work for IB maths, or is it a false economy?+

It depends entirely on what you point them at. At the budget end, Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, and a competent tutor at those bands can deliver genuine movement on mark types, rounding discipline and command terms, which is where the fastest grade movement sits anyway. Where the budget bands stop working is Higher Level content teaching, particularly Analysis and Approaches calculus and Higher Level Applications and Interpretation statistics. A Higher Level rate at the budget end is a prompt to ask what the tutor has actually taught.

How do we compare two Dubai quotes that show the same hourly rate?+

Ask six questions in writing. Is the rate per clock hour or per session of unstated length? Is marking of full timed papers included? Is it the same named tutor every week, and what happens if the match is wrong? What is the cancellation window? Is the first session chargeable? And is the figure quoted the figure that will appear on the invoice? Those answers routinely reveal that two identical-looking rates are different purchases, and they take about a day to collect from two or three providers.

Is a tuition centre group class cheaper for Diploma mathematics?+

Cheaper per hour, and the comparison is not only about price. A group cannot diagnose from your child's marked papers, cannot work to one of four courses if the room spans more than one, and cannot change pace for a single student. It suits a student who is close to a grade and needs structured practice. Note also that a centre with premises in Dubai requires a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval first and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry, which is part of its cost base.

Is any part of a Dubai tutor's rate a licensing cost?+

No. The MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. So no legitimate rate contains a permit fee, and a provider presenting one is misinforming you. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published, which is why no amount appears here.

What does the in-home premium buy for a family in a DIFC tower?+

The journey. Bestimate puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to 350 an hour against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online, with independent home tutors reaching AED 200 to 500 once travel is priced in. In DIFC that premium covers a drive across central Dubai in the evening peak, structured parking and tower reception time. A tutor arriving for a 5pm session leaves somewhere else around 4.15pm and is not free again until after 7pm for one billed hour. It buys nothing visible on a marked script.

How many sessions before we can tell whether the money is working?+

Six weeks, measured against marked papers rather than impressions. Six weeks is long enough for mark-type and rounding repairs to show in a timed paper and short enough that a wrong match has not cost much. Agree the review date before the first session rather than after the tenth, because the quiet renewal of an unreviewed weekly arrangement is how most tutoring money leaves a family in this market. Stopping at the review is a legitimate outcome and sometimes the correct recommendation.

Is there an IB maths tutor we could hire to come to our DIFC apartment?+

Not from us. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the United Arab Emirates and has no office, branch or tuition centre here; home visiting is a service we run only in India. All UAE tuition is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. For mathematics specifically there is a genuine advantage: a shared whiteboard shows the tutor written working as it forms, which is exactly where mark-scheme errors are catchable, whereas working photographed after the fact shows the destination and hides the wrong turn.

Point the budget before you size it

Three free pieces of information decide this well: which of the four IB mathematics courses your child is enrolled on, the most recent component-level marks rather than the overall grade, and the school's internal Exploration deadline. With those, the right purchase is usually obvious and usually smaller than expected. Bring them to a short consultation on Gulf Standard Time. The trial lesson is free, no card is required, and it ends with a written note of which mark types are being lost and what the first four weeks would address. If ten sessions on mark types and rounding would do what a year of content revision is being sold for elsewhere, that is what we will tell you.
