IB Chemistry Tutor in DIFC

Hiring an IB chemistry tutor in DIFC is a budgeting decision as much as an academic one, and almost nobody in this market will tell you what the two years actually cost. This page does. It sets out the monthly and two-year AED bands published by Dubai providers, names who publishes them, shows which chemistry hours are worth paying for and which the school will cover anyway, and explains why DIFC lessons run one-to-one over live video rather than by car.

  • Monthly and two-year AED bands published here, each with its source
  • Chemistry topics sorted into paid hours and hours the school covers
  • Trial lesson at no charge, no card details, rate quoted before booking
  • Tutors review the investigation; they never write or edit any of it

IB & IGCSE in DIFC

What Diploma chemistry really costs a DIFC household

Start with a number rather than a promise. Across the Dubai market, a weekly one-hour session with a qualified subject tutor working online is advertised between AED 150 and 300 an hour, which annualises to somewhere between AED 5,400 and AED 10,800 across a thirty-six week school year. Specialist Diploma and IGCSE tutors sit higher, at AED 200 to 450 and above. One company in this market advertises AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. Those are published figures from published rate cards, not an estimate, and they are the frame a DIFC family should be working inside before anyone discusses chemistry at all.

The reason this page leads with money is that chemistry is the subject where families most often buy the wrong thing. It has a reputation for difficulty, the reputation is partly earned, and the market responds with group revision courses, bulk hour bundles and crash intensives sold three weeks before the papers. Some of that is useful. Much of it is the equivalent of buying a gym membership in March: it addresses the anxiety rather than the deficit. A DIFC household with a long office day and a school run across the creek has limited evening hours and limited patience for a purchase that does not move a mark.

The structure of the course tells you where the money belongs. Diploma chemistry is assessed through two written papers and one internally assessed scientific investigation. Paper 1 is 36% of the grade and splits into multiple-choice and a data-based section; Paper 2 is 44% and is extended response; the investigation is 20%. There is no third paper in the current course. Forty-four per cent of the grade therefore sits in one paper that rewards precision of language, correct use of command terms and reasoning laid out so a marker can follow it. Those are coachable in a one-to-one hour and essentially uncoachable in a group of eight.

There is a second cost nobody itemises, which is travel. Published Dubai rates for in-home one-to-one work run AED 180 to 350 at Bestimate's 2026 rate table and AED 200 to 500 among independent home tutors, against AED 150 to 300 for qualified online tutors. The spread between those bands is mostly a car crossing Dubai for an hour's lesson. IB Gram does not sell home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is offered only in India. For a DIFC family the online route costs less and buys a wider shortlist, which is the argument made in full further down rather than asserted here.

What follows is the detail: the two-year bill counted in months rather than hours, the four places chemistry money is routinely wasted in this district, what the six themes actually contain and which of them need paid time, the free provision a Dubai school already gives you, the cost of the course in context against school fees and exam entry, where the honesty line sits on the investigation, and the limits on what we will claim.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry support gets bought at four different points, and the price of a useful intervention rises sharply the later it is bought. These are the four stages, with what each one costs in hours rather than in confidence.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme chemistry

Two years across six themes, assessed by two written papers and one scientific investigation. Higher Level adds depth within the same themes and longer papers, with identical component weightings to Standard Level. Students take chemistry alongside five other subjects plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and a service commitment, which is the real reason weekly hours are scarce rather than unaffordable.

The cheapest point to buy Diploma chemistry support in DIFC is the first half of Year 12, and almost nobody does. A family that starts in October pays for maintenance; a family that starts in February of Year 13 pays for triage, needs more hours per week, and has fewer weeks to spread them over. The published hourly band does not change, but the number of hours required roughly doubles, which is where the real cost difference sits.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme sciences

Integrated or separate sciences depending on the campus, assessed against four criteria each marked out of eight and reported as a level from one to seven. The criterion that predicts later chemistry difficulty is processing and evaluating, because it tests data handling rather than recall, and data handling is what the data-based half of Diploma Paper 1 will later demand.

Middle Years Programme support is the cheapest chemistry money a DIFC family can spend, because a criterion gap identified in MYP 4 costs a handful of sessions and the same gap discovered in Year 12 costs a term. Two of the campuses closest to DIFC run this route, and parents arriving from a percentage-marked system often cannot read the reports well enough to spot the gap at all.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Year 11 chemistry before the Diploma

Cambridge chemistry 0620 or Pearson Edexcel International GCSE chemistry 4CH1, taken separately or within a combined award. Extended or Higher tier content is what the Diploma assumes: mole calculations, bonding, energetics and the basics of organic nomenclature all reappear in Year 12 at pace and are not retaught from scratch.

The best-value chemistry purchase available in this district is six weeks of mole arithmetic and bonding revision in the summer between Year 11 and Year 12, bought before anything has gone wrong. It costs a fraction of a rescue block in Year 13 and it removes the single most common cause of early Diploma chemistry failure, which is arithmetic rather than chemistry.

COREDiploma core · Years 12-13

The scientific investigation and the Extended Essay

The chemistry investigation is marked out of 24 across four criteria and carries 20% of the grade. An Extended Essay in chemistry runs to 4,000 words with a school supervisor. Both are the student's own work. A tutor may teach the criteria, question the research design and challenge a conclusion; nothing may be written, edited or supplied.

This is where families in every Dubai district get overcharged, and sometimes worse. Providers in this market sell completed internal assessments; one has been documented selling them at AED 3,750. That is an academic-integrity breach and an expulsion risk for the student, and it is the most expensive thing a parent can buy in this market because the downside is the diploma itself.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry is rarely bought alone. These are the courses that most often share the same budget and the same evening in a DIFC household, with what each one actually charges a student in time.

Chemistry

Higher Level and Standard Level

Six themes across structure and reactivity, two written papers and one investigation. The expensive parts to fix late are organic mechanisms and the quantitative chain that runs from moles through concentration to titration arithmetic, because both need practice volume rather than explanation. Paper 2 language costs the most marks and the fewest hours to repair.

Biology

Higher Level and Standard Level

The usual partner subject for medicine applicants, marked against the same investigation criteria and the same command terms. A student who learns to answer 'explain' and 'outline' properly for chemistry gains biology marks without extra hours, which is a genuine saving when both subjects are in play.

Physics

Higher Level and Standard Level

Taken with chemistry by most engineering applicants. Shares the data-based question style and the uncertainty arithmetic, so one block of teaching on uncertainties serves both courses. Where a family must choose which science to fund, the deciding question is usually which paper the student is actually losing marks on.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

Higher Level and Standard Level

The quantitative spine under Higher Level chemistry. Logarithms arrive with pH, proportional reasoning underpins every mole calculation, and rearranging an expression quickly is assumed. Chemistry errors that look conceptual are frequently arithmetic, which is why a tutor who can diagnose across both subjects saves billable hours.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

Higher Level and Standard Level

Compatible with both chemistry levels, and the more common choice among students taking chemistry with economics or business rather than with physics. Leaves symbolic manipulation thinner than the chemistry papers assume, so a term of algebraic fluency work is often the cheaper intervention than more chemistry content.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

Higher Level and Standard Level

Offered at a minority of Dubai campuses and sometimes taken instead of a second science. It uses the same investigation criteria, so the criterion teaching transfers. Families considering it as a lighter alternative to chemistry should check the published entry requirements of the universities on their list first.

Extended Essay in chemistry

Diploma core · 4,000 words

An independent 4,000-word piece supervised at school. The cost-efficient intervention is one or two hours spent narrowing the research question before any laboratory work begins. The student writes every word, collects every measurement and reaches every conclusion; a tutor asks questions and teaches the assessment criteria.

Arabic and the mandatory UAE subjects

School-dependent · KHDA requirement

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies are required in Dubai private schools whatever curriculum is licensed, with separate classes for Arab and non-Arab pupils. They occupy timetable slots and occasionally clash with science options, and families funding extra chemistry hours should know these lessons are competing for the same week.

Theory of Knowledge

Diploma core

A prescribed-title essay and an exhibition of three objects, carrying points alongside the Extended Essay. Science students often underestimate it and then buy emergency support for it in Year 13, which is a predictable and avoidable line in the budget.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of chemistry support, priced differently in hours rather than in rate. All run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, and the right one depends on whether the problem is content, technique or the investigation.

Weekly maintenance through the term

One session a week following the school's own scheme of work, so the hour repairs this week's content rather than last term's. This is the lowest total cost per grade of anything in this list, because it prevents the gaps that later need rescuing. It is also the hardest sell, because nothing has visibly gone wrong yet.

  • One fixed weekday slot in Gulf Standard Time, thirty-odd weeks a year
  • Planned from the school's topic list, not a generic syllabus order
  • Written note after each session naming the next two priorities

Technique block before mocks or the May session

Four to eight weeks of paired sessions, one on content and one purely on timed papers marked against the published mark scheme. Losses get categorised as recall, arithmetic, command term or layout, and the category that dominates decides the next session. This is the highest return per hour in the whole course because Paper 2 carries 44% of the grade.

  • Timed papers marked against the published mark scheme
  • Errors sorted by category rather than by topic
  • Fits around January and March mock timetables

Investigation and Extended Essay clinic

A short, front-loaded block around the research question and the design, before data exists. The criteria are taught explicitly, the question is interrogated hard, and the uncertainty and graphing arithmetic is drilled. The student designs, measures, analyses and writes. A tutor who offers anything beyond this is selling something that puts the diploma at risk.

  • Front-loaded to criterion A, before apparatus is booked
  • Uncertainty propagation and graph choice taught explicitly
  • Spoken, questioning feedback only; no edits typed into the file

Holiday intensives and weekend blocks

Winter and spring break blocks, or Saturday mornings, used to rebuild a theme properly rather than to patch it. These cost more per week and less per grade than a term of fragmented half-attention, because a student with no school day behind them can work for ninety minutes and actually finish a topic.

  • Ninety-minute sessions where concentration allows
  • Weekend morning slots in Gulf Standard Time
  • Commonly used for the Year 11 to Year 12 bridge

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in DIFC

01

The two-year chemistry bill, counted in months

Hourly rates are the wrong unit for a decision that lasts two years. A family deciding whether to fund Diploma chemistry needs the monthly figure and the total, because that is how household budgets work. Bestimate's Dubai estimates for a weekly one-hour session put budget provision at AED 240 to 600 a month, mid-market at AED 600 to 1,200, and specialist exam-year support at AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above. Set against the hourly bands published elsewhere in this market, those monthly figures are internally consistent and they are the honest frame for the conversation.

The table below converts those published bands into the shapes a DIFC family actually buys. It is not a price list and none of these are IB Gram's rates; they are the market, expressed as monthly and two-year ranges so that a parent can see the size of the commitment before anyone talks about chemistry. What the table shows is that the expensive plans are not the ones with the highest hourly rate. They are the ones that start late and therefore need two or three sessions a week compressed into a single term.

The practical reading is this. A weekly specialist session run from October of Year 12 through to the May session of Year 13 costs more in total than a six-week crash block and far less per grade moved, because it is spent on prevention rather than on rescue. The crash block has a place, and the last section of this page says what it can and cannot do, but a family that budgets for one and ends up needing the other will have spent more than if it had simply bought the weekly hour from the start.

02

Where chemistry money gets wasted in this district

  • Group classes deliver content, not individual mark-scheme diagnosis
  • A generalist costs less an hour and more in total hours
  • An hour in Year 12 does roughly twice the work of an hour in Year 13
  • Ask the school what revision provision already exists before buying any of it

The first waste is the group class. A chemistry revision course with eight students in it can deliver content, and for a student who simply has not been taught a theme that is sometimes enough. What it cannot deliver is the thing that moves a Paper 2 mark, which is somebody reading one student's own written answers and naming the specific habit costing them marks. Those habits are individual. One student loses marks on state symbols and significant figures, another on using 'because' where the mark scheme wants a mechanism. A group rate looks like a saving until you notice it has bought the half of the problem that was never the problem.

The second is the generalist. A science tutor who covers chemistry, biology and physics across four curricula will teach the content competently and will not know, without looking it up, that organic mechanism marks hinge on arrow placement or that the data-based section expects uncertainties propagated rather than quoted. The specialist costs more per hour in this market and fewer hours in total. The arithmetic favours the specialist in almost every case where the student is above a grade 3 and trying to reach a 6 or 7.

The third is timing. Hours bought in Year 13 cost the same as hours bought in Year 12 and do perhaps half as much, because the foundational repair that was possible in October is no longer possible in March and the work becomes triage. The fourth is buying support for content the school is about to reteach anyway: most Dubai schools run their own revision programmes, clinic hours and past-paper sessions, and a parent who has not asked what is already provided free is at risk of paying twice. Establish that first. It is one email to the head of science and it routinely removes a third of the intended spend.

03

What the six themes contain, and which of them need paid hours

The current Diploma chemistry course is organised around structure and reactivity: models of the particulate nature of matter, models of bonding and structure, classification of matter, what drives chemical reactions, how much and how fast and how far, and the mechanisms of chemical change. Schools teach them in different sequences, which is why any plan has to start from the school's own topic list rather than from the published order. What generalises is which themes reward paid one-to-one time and which a diligent student can close alone with the textbook and the school's resources.

Classification of matter and much of the bonding content is largely learnable alone. It is descriptive, well covered by school resources and tested in ways that reward organised notes. The quantitative chain is not. Moles into concentration into titration arithmetic into yield and error analysis is a sequence where one weak link breaks every question downstream, and a student cannot usually find their own weak link. Half an hour with a tutor watching the working locates it; a week with a revision guide does not. Energetics and equilibrium sit in the middle, and the mechanisms theme is where the money goes.

The table below sorts the themes on exactly that basis. It is a spending guide, not a difficulty ranking: a theme can be hard and still be bad value to buy, because the difficulty is in volume of practice rather than in explanation. The column that matters most is the last one, which names what a paid hour does in each theme that a free hour cannot. Where that column is thin, do not buy the hour.

04

Organic chemistry, and why it is the most expensive thing to fix late

  • Mechanism marks are lost on arrow placement, lone pairs, charges and conditions
  • Volume spaced over weeks beats explanation, so late blocks underperform
  • Synthesis pathways need recall, not notes, which takes a term to build
  • Twenty minutes of self-marked drawing three times a week replaces paid hours

Organic chemistry behaves differently from the rest of the course in a way that has direct financial consequences. Most chemistry topics can be explained once and then practised. Organic chemistry has to be practised into the hand. A student who understands nucleophilic substitution perfectly well can still lose every mechanism mark on a paper because the curly arrow starts at the wrong place, the lone pair is not shown, the charge is missing from the intermediate, or the conditions above the arrow are absent. None of that is a comprehension failure and none of it is repaired by another explanation.

What repairs it is volume, spaced over weeks, with somebody correcting the drawing each time. That is a slow purchase. Fifteen mechanisms drawn badly and corrected is worth more than three hours of lecture, and it cannot be compressed into the fortnight before the papers, which is exactly when most families in this district come looking for it. A parent who starts organic support in April is buying a worse version of a cheaper thing they could have bought in January, and the tutor who tells them so is being honest rather than unhelpful.

The synthesis question compounds the problem. Higher Level papers ask students to get from one compound to another in several steps, which requires the pathway map to be in recall rather than in notes. Building that map takes repeated retrieval over a term. There is a cheaper route, and it is worth stating because it costs nothing: twenty minutes of mechanism drawing three times a week, self-marked against the school's own materials, through the whole of Year 13. Families who do that need far fewer paid hours. Families who do not will buy them in March at the point where they do the least good.

05

The free hour your school already provides

Before any money changes hands, establish what the school supplies. Dubai private schools are fee-paying, well resourced and inspected annually, and most run some combination of subject clinics, lunchtime help, after-school revision, past-paper libraries and departmental intervention lists. Parents in this district frequently do not know what exists because it is communicated once, in September, in a newsletter nobody finished. One email to the head of science asking what chemistry support is available and whether their child is on any intervention list changes the budget more than any discount negotiation will.

The free provision has real limits, though, and it is worth knowing where they are. A school clinic is a group setting and a teacher's time is divided; a subject teacher marking thirty scripts cannot write the individual diagnosis a tutor writes after one session; and no school will mark unlimited past papers for one student. The free hour is excellent for content that was missed and poor for habits that need naming. The paid hour is the reverse. A family that buys in that order spends less and gets more.

The table below sets out the comparison honestly, including the cases where the answer is not to buy anything. There is no version of this page in which the recommendation is always to purchase tuition. A student who is on grade 6 and losing marks to carelessness in timed conditions needs a timer and a mark scheme, not a tutor. A student who has never been taught enthalpy cycles because of a staff absence in Year 12 needs teaching, and no amount of self-discipline substitutes for it.

Chemistry tutoring in context: fees, exam entry and the Dubai budget

A tutoring figure means nothing without the rest of the education budget around it. Dubai's private school sector served 387,441 pupils across 227 schools in 2024-25, offering seventeen different curricula, with British-curriculum provision at 37% of enrolment, Indian at 26%, American at 14% and International Baccalaureate programmes at 7%. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. School fees, in other words, held still. Tutoring is the discretionary line that did not.

That makes the comparison worth putting in front of a parent plainly. A weekly specialist chemistry session across an exam year, at the published market band, is a recognisable fraction of a single term's school fees at a mid-market Dubai campus. Expressed that way, the decision usually stops being about affordability and becomes about whether the particular purchase will work, which is the right question. The table below assembles the items that make up the real cost of a Diploma chemistry year so that nothing arrives as a surprise in February.

Two items on it catch families out. The first is the private-candidate examination entry fee, which only applies if a student is sitting outside their school's registration, and which is set by the board and the centre rather than by any tutor. The second is the cost of the investigation itself in time: the weeks it occupies are weeks not available for revision, and a family planning an intensive block should check the investigation deadline before booking it. Both are planning facts rather than charges, and both are cheaper to know in September than to discover in January.

The honesty line on the investigation, and the most expensive purchase in this market

  • Four criteria, six marks each, 24 in total, 20% of the chemistry grade
  • A tutor teaches criteria and questions reasoning; the student writes every word
  • Completed-coursework services are a malpractice risk carried by the student
  • Three to five sessions before data collection beats ten sessions afterwards

A fifth of the chemistry grade comes from one scientific investigation, marked out of 24 across four criteria: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, six marks each. The commercial consequence of that 20% is that a market has grown up around it, and parts of that market sell work rather than teaching. One provider in this cluster has been documented offering completed internal assessments at AED 3,750. That is not expensive tutoring. It is an academic-integrity breach, it triggers IB malpractice procedures, and the person who carries the consequence is the student.

The line we hold, and that any provider should be asked to state in writing, is this. A tutor may teach what each criterion rewards, question whether a proposed research question can be answered with the data it would generate, explain uncertainty propagation and graph choice, and ask whether a conclusion is supported by the numbers. A tutor may not write, edit, restructure or supply any part of the document, may not select the research question, and may not produce the analysis. The student writes every word and owns every judgement. Dubai schools run originality checks and supervisors sign declarations, so the alternative is not a risk in the abstract.

Framed as a purchase, the legitimate version is also the better value one. Three to five sessions spent on criterion A before any apparatus is booked prevents the failure mode that costs the most marks, which is a question too broad to answer. Ten sessions spent rescuing an investigation after the data has been collected cannot fix it, because the design is what is being assessed. Front-load the spend, keep the work the student's, and the 20% behaves like the most predictable part of the grade rather than the most frightening.

Online delivery from DIFC, the permit, and the claims we decline to make

  • Delivery is online and one-to-one; no UAE home visits, India only
  • MoHRE private tuition permit: free of charge, two years, Resolution No. 710 of 2023
  • No regulator or board has accredited IB Gram and no page here will imply one has
  • No UAE premises, no guaranteed grades, no statistics without a source

Lessons for UAE families are delivered one-to-one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time. Nobody is sent to a DIFC address: IB Gram does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE, and in-home tutoring exists only in the India side of the business. The cost argument for that was made at the top of this page and is worth restating in one line. Published in-home rates in Dubai run AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 150 to 300 for qualified online tutors, and the gap is a vehicle rather than a better lesson. A DIFC family buying online pays less and chooses from everybody who has taught the current chemistry course instead of from the few who can reach the Gate Village by five o'clock.

On regulation, the position worth knowing is factual and most of this market avoids stating it. Private tuition in the UAE requires a work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is issued free of charge for two years through MoHRE's 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service, available on the ministry's app, website and e-services system, and eligible applicants include school-registered teachers, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Tutoring without one exposes the individual to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no schedule of amounts has been published, so none is quoted here. Ask to see the permit, whoever you buy from.

Finally, the things this page will not say in order to close a sale. IB Gram is not approved, accredited, certified or licensed by KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB organisation, Cambridge or Pearson; a KHDA educational services permit belongs to training institutes with premises and we hold none. There is no IB Gram office, centre or branch in the UAE. No grade, point total or university place can be guaranteed by any tutor, because boards mark the papers and set the boundaries afterwards. On VAT, we will state whether a quoted IB Gram price includes it and will not characterise the UAE tax treatment of tuition fees generally; that question belongs to the Federal Tax Authority's own guidance. Every AED figure above belongs to the company or rate table that published it.

Where we tutor

Where DIFC chemistry students study, and what each area implies for the bill

School choice changes the cost of chemistry support more than most parents expect, because it changes how much the school itself provides and how much of the evening survives the drive home. These are the areas DIFC families commute into.

Sobha Hartland

Two large campuses, ten to eighteen minutes from the Gate Village. Short commute, so a straight-after-school session is possible and a family can buy one weekly hour rather than paying for a weekend block to compensate for lost weekday time.

Al Jaddaf

A continuum campus running from early years into the Diploma. Families stay for years, which makes early-stage support the cheapest option available to them, and the later finish time pushes chemistry sessions towards 17:30 or a second slot at 20:00.

Downtown Dubai and Business Bay

No large secondary campus inside either district, so almost every household commutes. These are the areas where evening online slots fill first, and where a family that leaves booking until October finds the cheap early-evening hours already taken.

Al Quoz and Al Quoz 4

Three campuses within a quarter of an hour on a good run, through a slow industrial grid. Several run strong internal revision provision, which means a parent should ask what the school already supplies before buying hours for the same content.

Nad Al Sheba and Meydan

Twenty to thirty-five minutes back at pick-up time. Families here usually settle on 18:00 sessions, and that later slot is where a shorter, sharper hour matters, because an exhausted student at 18:00 absorbs less per dirham than an alert one at 17:00.

Al Safa and Jumeirah

The older British-curriculum belt, with several selective schools and well-developed internal support. Students from this cluster more often need pace and past-paper discipline than foundational repair, which is a cheaper purchase in hours.

Al Sufouh and the coast

Twenty-five to forty minutes each way. The journey is the outer limit most DIFC families accept, and it rules out weekday early-evening work for many of them, pushing chemistry support into weekend mornings where ninety-minute sessions are possible.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in DIFC

Inland campuses with Diploma chemistry within reach of DIFC

These campuses are the ones DIFC families most often use, and all run either the Middle Years Programme or a Year 11 qualification into a Diploma or A Level sixth form. Internal chemistry provision varies widely between them, which is the first thing to establish before buying any hours.

  • Hartland International School, Sobha Hartland
  • North London Collegiate School Dubai, Sobha Hartland
  • Swiss International Scientific School Dubai, Al Jaddaf
  • Kent College Dubai, Nad Al Sheba
  • Safa British School, Al Quoz
  • Citizens School, Al Quoz

Western and coastal campuses with a longer return journey

Longer commutes and, in several cases, substantial internal revision programmes. Families from this cluster are more likely to be buying exam technique and past-paper marking than content teaching, which is a smaller number of hours spread across a shorter window.

  • Jumeirah College, Al Safa
  • Jumeira Baccalaureate School, Al Safa
  • Horizon English School, Al Safa
  • Emirates International School Jumeirah
  • GEMS Wellington International School, Al Sufouh
  • Dubai College, Al Sufouh

These schools are named as context for the DIFC catchment and for the programmes available nearby. IB Gram has no affiliation with, endorsement from or partnership with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask the school first, then ask us

Before any quote, email the head of science and ask what chemistry clinics, revision sessions and past-paper provision already exist and whether your child is on an intervention list. That answer routinely removes a third of the intended spend. Tell us what came back, and the plan is built around the gap rather than over the top of it.

  2. 02

A diagnostic lesson at no charge

Fifty-five minutes, no card details. The tutor works through recent class material and one unfamiliar past-paper question while watching the working rather than the answers, then writes a short note classifying the problem as arithmetic, content, technique or discipline. The note sometimes says that paid hours are not the right purchase.

  3. 03

A written quote and a plan in hours

You get the rate per session, the recommended number of sessions, and what each block is intended to achieve, before anything is booked. No bundles that have to be bought in advance to reach a headline rate, and no package that only makes sense if it runs for six months.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions with a note each time

Every session ends with two or three named priorities and the exact past-paper questions to attempt before the next one. Parents get that note rather than a progress score. It says what was fixed, what is still wrong, and what the student is expected to manage unaided this week.

  5. 05

Review the spend at the mock

January and March mocks are the point at which the budget gets re-examined honestly. The marked paper is categorised by loss type, and the plan either continues, changes shape, or stops. A tutor recommending more hours every single time is not reading the data; a plan that winds down because it worked is the intended outcome.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Prices on the page, with their sources

Every AED band above is attributed to the rate card or company that published it, with the market framing stated. Three of the six researched competitors in this cluster publish no price at all and two quote US dollars. A family in Dubai transacts in dirhams and is entitled to see the number before the consultation.

The cheaper option named when it is the right one

Several sections of this page tell you not to buy something: not the group class for technique work, not a tutor for careless errors under time pressure, not an organic block in April. A provider that never names the free alternative is selling hours rather than outcomes.

Specialists, which costs fewer hours

A chemistry tutor who has taught the current two-paper course knows that mechanism marks hinge on arrow placement and that the data-based section expects propagated uncertainties. That knowledge shortens the plan. A higher hourly rate across fewer hours is usually the cheaper total, and the diagnostic lesson is where you can test that claim.

No bundle you have to buy in advance

The rate is quoted per session and the recommended number of sessions is stated with a reason. Nothing is discounted on condition of a six-month commitment, because a commitment priced that way is a bet that you will keep paying after it stops working.

The investigation handled inside the rules

Criteria taught, research questions challenged, uncertainty arithmetic explained, conclusions interrogated. Nothing written, edited or supplied, and we say so here rather than in the terms. The providers in this market selling completed coursework are charging a premium for a risk the student carries alone.

Coverage limits stated before you pay

If no chemistry specialist is available in the window you need, we say so and name the alternatives rather than filling the slot with a generalist. Specialist availability at one hour in Gulf Standard Time is finite. No competitor in this market publishes that limit; this one is written down.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in DIFC: your questions answered

What does a full year of Diploma chemistry support cost a DIFC family in total?+

Using published Dubai figures rather than estimates: Bestimate's monthly bands for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to 600 for budget provision, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work. Across a thirty-six week school year that is roughly AED 5,400 to AED 10,800 at the mid band and more where a second weekly session is added in Year 13. One company advertises AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. Those are other providers' published prices. IB Gram quotes its own rate per session in writing before anything is booked, and the first lesson carries no charge.

Is a group chemistry class in Dubai genuinely cheaper than one-to-one?+

Per hour, yes. Per grade, usually not, and the reason is specific. A group can deliver content a student has not been taught, which is sometimes exactly the need. It cannot deliver the thing that moves a Paper 2 mark, which is somebody reading one student's own written answers and naming the habit costing them marks week after week. Those habits differ between students: state symbols for one, command-term discipline for another. Buying a group rate for technique work means paying for the half of the problem that was never the problem. Use groups for content gaps and one-to-one for the 44% paper.

Which chemistry topics are worth paying for and which will the school cover anyway?+

Bonding, structure and much of the periodicity and nomenclature content is learnable from school resources by an organised student, so paid hours there are poor value. The quantitative chain is the opposite: moles into concentration into titration arithmetic into yield, where one broken link ruins every question downstream and a student cannot locate their own weak point. Energetics and equilibrium sit in between. Organic mechanisms need volume with correction, which is the clearest case for paid time. Ask the school what revision provision already exists before buying anything, because most Dubai campuses run more than parents realise.

Why is organic chemistry the most expensive part of the course to fix late?+

Because it has to be practised into the hand rather than understood once. A student who follows nucleophilic substitution perfectly can still lose every mechanism mark to an arrow starting in the wrong place, a missing lone pair, an absent charge on the intermediate or no conditions above the arrow. Another explanation fixes none of that. Fifteen mechanisms drawn and corrected over several weeks does. That cannot be compressed into the fortnight before the papers, which is when most families come looking. Twenty minutes of self-marked drawing three times a week through Year 13 replaces a surprising number of paid hours.

Does Higher Level chemistry cost more per hour than Standard Level in Dubai?+

The published market bands do not usually separate the two, and the hourly figures quoted across this market apply to Diploma chemistry generally: roughly AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online subject tutor and AED 200 to 450 or more for a specialist. What differs is the number of hours. Higher Level covers the same six themes with additional depth and longer papers, and the algebraic load is heavier, so a Higher Level plan typically needs more weeks or a second weekly session in the exam year. Budget for hours rather than for a premium rate.

How many chemistry sessions should we book before deciding whether it is working?+

Four, after the free diagnostic. One session shows whether the tutor and the student can work together; it cannot show whether the plan moves marks. Four gives the tutor time to see the student's own written answers more than once, categorise the losses, and demonstrate a change in one of those categories. If after four sessions the written notes are still describing the same error, change something: the tutor, the shape of the session, or the assumption that tutoring is what this student needs. Do not commit to a term in advance, and be cautious of any package priced to require it.

Are monthly chemistry packages better value than paying per session?+

Only if the package matches what the student actually needs, and the discount is usually paying for the provider's cash flow rather than for your outcome. Packages advertised in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions. Eight sessions a month is two a week, which is more than most Diploma students can absorb outside an exam-year push. A package that locks in a volume you will not use is more expensive than a higher per-session rate used sparingly. Check what happens to unused sessions before signing anything.

Does chemistry tutoring in Dubai get more expensive as the May session approaches?+

Availability tightens rather than headline rates moving, and the practical effect on a family is the same. In February and March the specialist slots between 16:30 and 19:00 fill, the tutors with current Diploma chemistry experience are already committed, and what is left is either an awkward hour or a generalist. Families who book a weekly slot in September pay the ordinary rate and keep the good time; families who come looking in March pay the ordinary rate for a worse slot or a worse match. The scarce commodity in this market is not money, it is a specialist at seventeen hundred hours.

Does a quoted chemistry tutoring rate in the UAE include VAT?+

Ask, and get the answer in writing, because providers differ in how they quote. IB Gram states whether an IB Gram price is inclusive or exclusive when the rate is given, before anything is booked. What this page will not do is characterise the UAE VAT treatment of tuition fees in general, because that is a question for the Federal Tax Authority's own published guidance rather than for a tutoring website, and several pages in this market state it as settled fact without a citation. If a quote arrives without a VAT position stated, treat the ambiguity as part of the price.

What does an in-home chemistry tutor in Dubai charge, and what is the extra paying for?+

Published Dubai in-home rates run AED 180 to 350 in Bestimate's 2026 rate table, with independent home tutors quoting AED 200 to 500, against AED 150 to 300 for qualified subject tutors working online. Monthly in-home packages of AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions appear in this market. The difference is principally travel: an hour's lesson in DIFC can mean ninety minutes in a car, and that time is inside the rate whether the invoice itemises it or not. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; that service exists only in India.

Can one tutor cover chemistry and maths so we pay for fewer hours?+

Sometimes, and where it works the saving is real. Higher Level chemistry leans on logarithms for pH, on proportional reasoning throughout the mole work and on quick algebraic rearrangement, and a tutor who can see that a chemistry error is actually a logarithm error fixes it in minutes rather than reteaching the chemistry. The limit is depth: a tutor strong enough in both to teach Higher Level Analysis and Approaches properly is rarer than one strong in either. Test it in the diagnostic lesson by giving the tutor a chemistry question whose difficulty is arithmetic and seeing whether they notice.

Is it allowed to pay for help with the chemistry Internal Assessment?+

Teaching is allowed; producing the work is not. A tutor may explain what each of the four criteria rewards, interrogate a research question the student has proposed, teach uncertainty propagation and graph choice, and ask whether a conclusion follows from the data. A tutor may not write, edit, restructure or supply any part of the document, choose the research question or produce the analysis. One provider in this market has been documented selling completed internal assessments at AED 3,750; that is a malpractice trigger and the consequence falls on the student. Schools in Dubai run originality checks and supervisors sign declarations.

What happens to the money if we stop after two chemistry sessions?+

Nothing should be owed beyond the sessions taken, and that is the test to apply to any provider in this market. IB Gram quotes per session, the diagnostic lesson carries no charge and takes no card details, and there is no bundle that has to be bought in advance to reach the quoted rate. What you should expect from a provider when you stop is a short written note on where the student actually stands, so that the two sessions leave something behind. Be wary of discounts conditional on a term's commitment and of packages whose unused sessions expire silently.

How does a year of chemistry tutoring compare with Dubai school fees?+

KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not increase for 2026-27, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. Against a mid-market Dubai campus fee, a weekly specialist chemistry session across an exam year at published market bands of AED 600 to 1,200 a month is a recognisable fraction of a single term. Framed that way the question usually stops being affordability and becomes whether this particular purchase will work, which is the better question and the one the diagnostic lesson exists to answer.

What is the cheapest sequence of chemistry support that actually changes a mark?+

In order: email the school and use the free provision it already runs; set up twenty minutes of self-marked organic mechanism drawing three times a week; buy a diagnostic hour to locate where the mole and concentration chain breaks; then one weekly session focused on the student's own Paper 2 scripts marked against the published mark scheme, because that paper carries 44% of the grade. Add three to five sessions on the investigation criteria before any data is collected. That sequence costs less than a crash block in March and does considerably more, which is the whole argument of this page.

Get the number before the sales conversation

Tell us the school, whether chemistry is Higher or Standard Level, what the last report said and what the school already provides. You will get a written rate per session, a recommended number of sessions with a reason attached to each block, and a free 55-minute diagnostic lesson with no card details taken. After that lesson the tutor writes a short note classifying the problem as arithmetic, content, technique or discipline, and says what it will take to shift. If the honest answer is that your child needs a timer and a mark scheme rather than a tutor, the note will say so and the conversation ends there.
