IGCSE Home Tutor in JBR

An IGCSE home tutor in JBR is quoted anywhere between AED 150 and AED 500 an hour, and almost nothing on the open market explains what separates the two ends of that range. This page does. It publishes the Dubai rate bands with their sources, shows where money gets spent on the wrong thing, and sets out what IB Gram delivers instead: one-to-one IGCSE lessons live online, priced on subject and level rather than on a tutor's drive across Jumeirah Beach Residence.

  • Every AED band on this page carries a source and an October 2026 date
  • Lessons delivered online, one-to-one, over live video to JBR
  • Marked past papers included, not charged as an extra line
  • Trial lesson before commitment, booked without card details

IB & IGCSE in JBR

The money question, answered with numbers rather than adjectives

Parents in Jumeirah Beach Residence researching an IGCSE home tutor run into the same wall. Three of the six pages ranking for this search publish no price at all. Two quote in US dollars, which is not what a Dubai household transacts in. One publishes an hourly rate in its page copy that contradicts the figure in its own structured data. A family trying to budget for Year 10 and Year 11 is left comparing adjectives, and adjectives are why people overpay.

So here are the bands, sourced and dated. In October 2026 the Dubai market runs at roughly AED 45 to AED 150 an hour for budget online tutors and university students, AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject tutor teaching online, AED 180 to AED 500 for an in-home one-to-one visit with travel priced in, AED 200 to AED 450 and upwards for an IGCSE or IB specialist, and AED 500 to AED 650 at the premium end. Monthly packages seen on the open market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions. These come from published UAE agency rate cards and the Bestimate Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table. They are the market, not an IB Gram price list.

What the range does not tell you is where the money goes. Two quotes of AED 200 can buy completely different things. One buys sixty minutes of talking, with homework set and never read. The other buys sixty minutes of teaching plus a past paper marked against the published mark scheme between sessions, a written note to the parent, and a tutor who knows that your child's school enters 0580 rather than 4MA1. The second is cheaper per grade. The hourly figure cannot show you that, which is why this page spends more words on inclusions than on rates.

The delivery model matters to the arithmetic too, and it should be stated before any comparison is made. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in the UAE. Home visits are a service offered only in India. Tuition for families in JBR is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video, in Gulf Standard Time. That is not a cost-saving dressed up as a feature: it removes travel from the price, removes the twenty minutes a tower block takes from the start of a visit, and removes distance from the list of filters applied when choosing who teaches your child.

The sections that follow take the cost question apart properly. What the market charges by provider model. The four places JBR families most often spend tutoring money without buying a grade. What a session should contain at each price point. How the Core and Extended decision changes both the bill and the grade ceiling. What examination entry costs if your child sits as a private candidate. And when the right financial decision is to stop paying, which no page in this market will tell you.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three qualification routes run through JBR households at ages 14 to 16, and each one carries a different cost profile because each one is examined differently. Knowing which your child's school enters is the first step in not paying for the wrong expertise.

CAIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Examined in a June series and a November series, with syllabus codes such as 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics, 0620 Chemistry and 0500 First Language English. Most subjects split into Core and Extended, which changes both the papers sat and the grade ceiling. Cambridge allocates every examination centre to one of six administrative zones, each with its own timetable version.

The zone detail is a real cost risk rather than trivia. Cambridge states that using the wrong zone timetable means it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who misses an examination. A tutor planning revision against the wrong version wastes paid hours on a schedule that does not apply to your child's centre.

PEARSONAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Available in May/June and November each year, with codes such as 4MA1 Mathematics, 4PH1 Physics and 4CH1 Chemistry. Tiering runs Foundation and Higher rather than Core and Extended, and several subjects allow a modular route where units are banked separately. Calculators are permitted in both Mathematics papers, which changes what revision time should be spent on.

For a JBR family the modular option is the one with budget consequences. Banking a unit early can reduce the pressure, and the cost, of a single heavy final term. It also means an entry decision made in Year 10 affects what tutoring is worth buying in Year 11, so the conversation belongs early rather than in March.

ALEVELAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

What comes after: A Level or IB Diploma

Most British-curriculum schools in Dubai run IGCSE to 16 and then split into A Level or the IB Diploma. The choice changes which IGCSE grades matter: a prospective Mathematics or Physics A Level student needs the Extended or Higher tier content secured, while a Diploma applicant is judged on breadth across six subjects.

This is where tutoring money is best targeted in Year 11. Spending on the two subjects that gate the next stage usually returns more than spreading the same budget across five. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four British curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, so the post-16 choice in this area is widening.

MOEEnd of Year 11 onwards

Ministry of Education equivalency

UAE equivalency on the British track requires five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five.

The reason this belongs on a cost page is that one ranking competitor publishes a six-subject requirement, and families who believe it buy a sixth subject's worth of tutoring they did not need. The five-subject rule is what the published clarification states. Verify your own case with the Ministry rather than with a tutoring website, including this one.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the IGCSE subjects JBR families book most, with the syllabus codes and the specific place marks go missing. Each description says what a paid hour should be spent on, because that is the difference between tutoring that returns a grade and tutoring that returns a receipt.

Mathematics (0580 Cambridge, 4MA1 Edexcel)

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

Cambridge now sets a non-calculator paper alongside a calculator paper, which exposes students whose fluency lives in the device. Edexcel permits calculators in both papers. Paid hours are best spent on algebraic manipulation and on reading the command word, not on topic revision a textbook already covers.

International Mathematics (0607)

Core and Extended

The graphics-calculator route, with investigation and modelling papers that reward exploration rather than recall. Students moving from 0580 find the paper style unfamiliar before they find the content hard. A tutor who has not taught 0607 specifically will spend your money teaching 0580 technique that scores less well here.

Physics (0625 Cambridge, 4PH1 Edexcel)

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

Electricity and waves are where Extended candidates lose most marks, usually on circuit reasoning rather than on formulae. Practical assessment differs between boards and routes, so confirm which paper your child sits before buying practical-skills hours. Unit errors in multi-step calculations cost more marks than any single topic.

Chemistry (0620 Cambridge, 4CH1 Edexcel)

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

Moles, electrolysis and organic chemistry account for most of the gap between a 6 and an 8. The questions requiring an explanation rather than a recall sentence are the ones that separate tiers. Worth paying for: structured practice on explanation-length answers, marked against the published mark scheme.

Biology (0610 Cambridge, 4BI1 Edexcel)

Core and Extended, Foundation and Higher

Content-heavy and therefore the subject families most often over-tutor. The marks are in precision of terminology and in answering at the depth the command word asks. An hour spent on past-paper answer length usually beats an hour spent re-reading transport in plants.

Co-ordinated and Combined Science (0654, 0653)

Double and single award

Three sciences compressed into two or one grade, which changes revision economics completely. Students often study it without realising which content is excluded from their award. Clarifying that first can remove whole topics from a revision plan, and that is tutoring money saved rather than spent.

First Language English (0500, 0990)

IGCSE, with speaking endorsement

Directed writing and the composition task reward control of register and structure far more than vocabulary. Reading-response marks are lost by quoting rather than analysing. Progress here is measurable within four or five sessions if the work is marked, and invisible for a term if it is not.

English as a Second Language (0510, 0511)

Core and Extended

A distinct qualification from First Language English with different papers and expectations, and a common and expensive mix-up at enrolment. Listening and the summary task carry predictable mark patterns, which makes short, frequent sessions better value than long ones.

Economics (0455) and Business Studies (0450)

IGCSE

Diagram accuracy and evaluation language are the two gains available quickly. Case-study questions need application to the given business, not a general answer about businesses. Both subjects reward a repeatable answer structure, which is a short piece of work rather than a term of lessons.

Computer Science (0478) and ICT (0417)

IGCSE

Two very different subjects frequently confused when a tutor is hired. Computer Science examines pseudocode, trace tables and data representation under examination conditions. ICT examines practical application within software. Confirming which one your child sits prevents a term of well-taught irrelevance.

Arabic as a First Language (0508) and Arabic as a Second Language (0544)

IGCSE

Mandatory UAE subjects run alongside the licensed curriculum in Dubai private schools, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arabic as a first language by group. Tutoring demand here outstrips supply, so booking early costs less than booking in the final term.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Each format has a different cost profile, and the right choice usually depends on how many weeks remain rather than on how much is available to spend. All three run online, one-to-one, over live video.

Weekly one-to-one, one subject

The lowest-cost format that reliably moves a grade: one hour a week in a single subject, with a past paper or exercise marked between sessions. Buying one subject properly outperforms buying three subjects thinly on the same budget, because a thin hour spread across three syllabuses becomes homework review rather than teaching.

  • 60 minutes weekly, same evening, one subject
  • Marked work between sessions as standard
  • Lowest total cost over a Year 11
  • Add a second subject only once the first stabilises

Paired sessions for two linked subjects

One tutor covering two subjects that share underlying skill, such as Mathematics with Physics, or Chemistry with Biology at Core tier. This saves a slot in a crowded week and often a little on rate, but only works where the pairing is genuine. Paying one tutor for two unrelated subjects buys a specialist in one and a generalist in the other.

  • Works for Maths with Physics, or Chemistry with Biology
  • Two 45-minute halves or alternating weeks
  • Saves a weekday slot rather than saving a grade
  • Not advisable across unrelated subjects at Extended tier

Short pre-examination block

Six to ten weeks of concentrated work before a June or November series, built on timed papers marked against the published mark schemes. This is the best-value purchase available if the content is broadly there and the marks are not, and the worst-value one if the content is genuinely missing, in which case ten weeks is not enough and the honest answer is to say so.

  • 6-10 weeks, two sessions a week plus a marked paper
  • Priced as a block rather than open-ended
  • Best value where technique rather than content is the gap
  • Not a substitute for a term of missing content

01

What an IGCSE home tutor in JBR costs, by provider model

An IGCSE home tutor in JBR, meaning somebody who drives to the tower, is quoted at roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour in this market, with travel either included in that figure or added to it. The Bestimate Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to AED 350, and independent home tutors advertise between AED 200 and AED 500. Online qualified subject tutors sit lower, at AED 150 to AED 300. IB Gram does not sell home visits in the UAE; that service runs only in India, and lessons for JBR families are delivered online.

Comparing those figures requires knowing what each model carries. An agency rate includes a margin for matching, replacement and administration, which is worth something if a tutor leaves mid-term and worthless if the agency has nobody to replace them with. A freelance rate is lower and carries no replacement at all. A tuition centre group class looks cheapest per hour at AED 90 to AED 200 per student, but the attention per student falls with group size, which is why a centre class and a one-to-one hour are not substitutes at any price.

The table below sets the models side by side on the questions that change value rather than on rate alone. Every band is attributed, and every band is a market figure rather than an IB Gram price. For what IB Gram charges, the trial lesson and the consultation give a real number for your child's subject and level; publishing one figure for every combination would be inaccurate rather than transparent.

The four places JBR families lose tutoring money

  • Ask for the syllabus code, not the subject name, before paying anything
  • Ask what happens between sessions; if the answer is nothing, the rate is high
  • One subject taught well beats four subjects reviewed
  • Travel time in a tower is billable time you do not get back

Overspending in this market is rarely a matter of paying too high a rate. It is a matter of buying the wrong thing at a fair rate, and the same four errors recur across this neighbourhood. The first is buying hours in the wrong board. A tutor who knows Cambridge 0580 inside out and is handed a child sitting Pearson 4MA1 will teach good mathematics against the wrong paper style, the wrong tier labels and the wrong calculator rules. The grade moves less than the invoice suggests it should.

The second is paying for travel in a tower block. An in-home visit in JBR spends real minutes on basement parking, the security desk and a lift at the hour the whole building comes home, and those minutes are billed. The third is buying unmarked hours. A session with no marked work between visits produces a student who feels tutored and a paper that nobody has diagnosed, and diagnosis is most of what a tutor is for at this level.

The fourth is over-buying breadth. A family with a fixed budget often splits it across four subjects at thirty minutes each, which produces four homework reviews rather than one piece of teaching. Concentrating the same spend on the one or two subjects that gate the next stage returns more. The audit table below puts numbers against each error so the comparison is concrete rather than rhetorical. Read the table as a shortlist of questions to ask before the first invoice rather than as a verdict on any one provider, because the same error costs a different amount at each tier.

Tutoring cost in context: fees, entries and the whole bill

Tutoring is a marginal cost sitting on top of a large fixed one, and judging it in isolation leads families to both overspend and underspend. The useful context in Dubai right now is that KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under the second phase of Dubai's economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. A household whose largest education line has held flat is in a better position to judge a tutoring decision against a known total.

The rest of the bill is less visible. Examination entry for a private candidate is charged per subject by the examination centre, and the centre sets that fee rather than the board, so it varies across Dubai and has to be asked for directly. Resources are a smaller line than parents expect, because board syllabuses, specimen papers and past papers are published by Cambridge and Pearson on their own websites. No tutor should be charging you for material the board gives away, and no tutor should be supplying board papers or mark schemes as downloads, which is the board's copyright.

The table below assembles the full picture for a JBR family running one child through Year 11. The tutoring rows use the market bands published above; the school fee row is left to the family's own invoice because fees vary by school and year group by a wide margin. The point of the table is the ratio: tutoring at one hour a week is a small fraction of a Dubai school fee, which is why the question worth asking is whether it is targeted, not whether it is affordable.

Core or Extended: the decision that changes both the bill and the ceiling

Tier choice is the single most consequential cost decision in IGCSE and the one families discuss least. Cambridge Core and Extended are different papers with different grade ranges: Core candidates cannot be awarded above a C, while Extended reaches A*. Pearson runs Foundation and Higher on the same logic. A student entered at Core who needed Extended has a ceiling placed on them by an administrative decision, and no amount of tutoring lifts it after entries close.

That cuts the other way too, and this is where money gets wasted most quietly. A student entered at Extended who is not secure on Core content will score poorly on papers aimed above their current level, and the family then buys more hours to chase marks on material the student is not ready for. The honest conversation is about which tier matches current attainment and what the next stage requires, and it needs to happen before the school's entry deadline rather than after a disappointing mock.

The tutoring implication is practical. Moving a student from secure Core to viable Extended is a defined piece of work with a defined number of weeks, usually concentrated in the topics Extended adds rather than spread across the whole syllabus. Framed that way it is a budgetable project. Framed as general improvement it becomes an open-ended monthly cost with no finish line, which is how tutoring bills in this city quietly run for two years. The way out is to write the finish line down before booking: a tier, a target grade and the series it will be sat in, all three agreed with the school.

05

Which board, and why the answer changes what a tutor is worth

Before any rate is agreed, find out which board your child's school enters. Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel are the two dominant routes in Dubai, with OxfordAQA present in some centres. They examine the same subject differently enough that a tutor fluent in one is doing guesswork in the other. Cambridge Mathematics 0580 now sets a non-calculator paper; Pearson 4MA1 permits a calculator in both papers. Tiering is Core and Extended at Cambridge and Foundation and Higher at Pearson. Pearson offers modular banking in some subjects; Cambridge does not work that way.

The practical test for a prospective tutor is short and costs nothing. Ask which syllabus code they are teaching to. A tutor who answers "IGCSE maths" is telling you they will find out later at your expense. A tutor who answers "0580 Extended, and I would want to see whether the school has entered her for Paper 2 and Paper 4" has already done the work. Series availability differs too: Cambridge runs June and November series, while Pearson International GCSE runs May/June and November.

Entry deadlines are the detail that makes this urgent rather than academic. Cambridge sets the final entry deadline for each series per timetable zone, and for a June series it falls in the spring, months before the papers; Pearson's International GCSE November 2026 window ran from late October to 19 November 2026 with its deadline long past by the time it opened. That gap between the entry deadline and the paper is months wide, which means tier and board decisions are locked long before the revision term in which families usually start thinking about tutoring. Always check the live official timetable, since boards revise provisional dates.

06

What a session should contain at each price point

  • Below AED 150 online: live teaching only, suited to a confident student
  • AED 150-300: syllabus code named, student's own scripts used, written note after
  • Above AED 300: marked papers, tier advice, plan built on school deadlines
  • At every level: marked work included, and a willingness to say it is not working

A rate on its own is not information. What makes AED 180 expensive or AED 320 cheap is the list of things that happen around the hour. At the bottom of the market, below roughly AED 150 online, expect live teaching and nothing else: no marking, no written note, no tracking of your child's school deadlines. That can be the right purchase for a confident student who needs a weekly question-and-answer session, and it is the wrong purchase for a student who does not know why they are losing marks.

In the AED 150 to AED 300 band, a qualified subject tutor teaching online should be naming the syllabus code, working from the student's own marked scripts, and sending something short in writing afterwards. Above AED 300, a specialist rate should be buying diagnosis: a paper marked against the published mark scheme with the mark allocation explained, a view on tier and entry, and a plan keyed to the school's deadline calendar rather than to a generic revision timetable.

Two things should be inside the rate at every level and frequently are not. The first is marked work between sessions, because the error pattern on a timed script is the only reliable diagnosis available. The second is honesty about progress, including the sentence nobody wants to deliver: this is not working, and here is what would. A tutor who cannot say that is charging you for optimism, and over a Dubai school year optimism is the most expensive item on the invoice.

07

The permit question, and why the cheapest tutor can cost the most

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated. Individuals providing private lessons need a private tutor work permit from MoHRE, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Those tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so no figure should be quoted to you by anyone.

Because the permit is free, a tutor without one is not saving you money. They are carrying a risk you cannot see and offering no recourse if the arrangement goes wrong mid-term. The application route is MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit for private tutor licensing, which lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time through the MoHRE smart app, website and e-services system. A tutor who cannot discuss their permit status when asked has told you something useful for free.

One further boundary belongs here because it is a cost question as well as an ethical one. In Abu Dhabi, professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Paying a premium for your child's own class teacher is therefore buying an arrangement that may not survive scrutiny. That is reported policy rather than quoted regulation, so verify the current wording with the authority before relying on it.

08

When the right financial decision is to stop

No page selling tutoring tells you when to stop buying it, so this one will. There are three clear signals. The first is that marked papers have stopped improving across six to eight weeks of consistent work. That is not a reason to add hours; it is a reason to change the diagnosis, because more of an intervention that is not working costs more and returns the same. The second is that the student has stopped bringing anything to the session. A tutored hour with no work attached to it is a conversation, and conversations are cheaper elsewhere.

The third is the end of the series. Once the written papers are sat, tutoring in that subject should stop rather than taper indefinitely, and the enquiry-about-results window belongs to the school rather than to a tutor. Families who keep a weekly slot running through the summer out of habit spend several thousand dirhams on momentum they do not need, and the student would be better served by the break.

What should happen instead at each of those points is a review rather than a renewal. If a subject has stabilised, the hours move to the one that has not, or they stop. If nothing is moving, that is said plainly and the arrangement ends. A trial lesson exists so the match is tested before any commitment, and it takes no card details to book. The honest outcome of a bad fit is a different tutor or no tutor, not a term of billed sessions nobody believes in.

Where we tutor

Where IGCSE families around JBR actually are

Rates do not vary much by community in this corner of Dubai, but what a family gets for the money does, because building type, bandwidth and the length of the school run differ street by street. These are the communities booking alongside JBR.

Jumeirah Beach Residence

High-density towers on the beachfront, where an in-home visit pays a hidden tax in visitor parking and lift time. The same AED 250 buys noticeably less teaching here than in a villa community, which is the core of the cost argument on this page.

Bluewaters Island

One bridge in and out, and a tutor charging travel is charging for that bridge at the worst hour of the day. Households here book the same online slots as JBR and pay for teaching rather than for the crossing.

Dubai Marina

Tower living with the same parking arithmetic as JBR. Families comparing quotes between the two communities should compare inclusions, since the headline rate is effectively identical across the tram line.

JLT

Apartment study space is the variable that matters most here. A quiet corner and headphones improve an online session more than a higher hourly rate does, and both are free.

The Greens and The Views

Shorter school runs and earlier arrivals home, which means a 16:15 start is realistic. More of the paid hour lands on teaching when nobody is still travelling at the start of it.

The Springs and The Meadows

Villa communities where in-home visits lose less time, so the cost comparison is genuinely closer. The remaining difference is the tutor pool: distance still filters who is available at Extended tier in the sciences.

Al Sufouh

Closest to the senior school cluster, so families here often buy fewer hours overall simply because the student arrives home with energy left. Session length rather than session count is the lever worth pulling.

Emirates Hills and Jumeirah Park

Households frequently running two or three children through IGCSE at once, where the question is how to split a fixed budget across siblings. Concentrating spend on the subjects that gate the next stage beats spreading it evenly.

School ecosystem

Schools where a private-candidate route comes up

Students who have moved mid-cycle, repeated a subject or taken an extra IGCSE outside school sometimes sit as private candidates through an examination centre rather than their school, which carries its own entry costs and deadlines.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the syllabus codes, not the subject names

The most useful first message names the school, the exam board and the syllabus codes your child is entered for, plus the tier if it is already decided. That one detail prevents the most expensive error in this market, which is paying a competent tutor to teach against the wrong paper.

  2. 02

Get the band before you get the quote

You have the Dubai market bands on this page with their sources. Use them to sanity-check any quote you receive, from IB Gram or anywhere else. A figure well outside the band in either direction deserves a question about what is included rather than an assumption about quality.

  3. 03

Trial lesson on real marked work

The first session is a trial, booked without card details, and it should run on your child's own returned paper rather than on introductions. You get a short written note afterwards saying what the tutor found, which tier they think fits and what they would do in the first month.

  4. 04

Agree what sits inside the rate

Before the second session, settle three things in writing: whether marked papers are included, what the written follow-up looks like, and how the plan maps to your school's own deadlines. Those three inclusions are what separate two identical-looking hourly figures.

  5. 05

Review on marked evidence every six weeks

Every six weeks, look at the marked scripts rather than at the sessions attended. If the marks are moving, continue. If a subject has stabilised, move the hours. If nothing is moving, change the approach or stop, which is the review this page exists to make easy to ask for.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Rates published with a source and a date

Every AED band on this page is attributed to a published rate card or a named survey and dated October 2026. Most pages in this search publish no figure at all, and two of those that do quote US dollars. A number you cannot trace is not useful for a budget decision.

No travel inside the price

Lessons to JBR are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video, so nothing in the rate pays for a drive across Dubai or for the twenty minutes a tower block takes from the start of a visit. The hour booked is the hour taught.

Marked work treated as standard, not an extra

The diagnosis that makes tutoring work comes from a timed script marked against the published mark scheme. That belongs inside the rate. A cheaper hour that omits it produces a student who feels supported and an error pattern nobody has examined.

Syllabus code matched before the first booking

Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 differ on tiering, calculator rules and paper structure. Tutors are matched to the code your child is actually entered for, which removes the most common and least visible way tutoring money gets wasted in Dubai.

Board material referenced, never resold

Syllabuses, specimen papers and past papers are published free by Cambridge and Pearson. They are cited and linked rather than supplied as downloads, because reproducing board material is a copyright matter. Nobody should be charging you for it.

A stated point at which to stop

The page sets out three signals that mean tutoring should end or change rather than continue: flat marked papers over six to eight weeks, a student bringing no work, and the close of the examination series. A provider unwilling to name those is selling renewal rather than teaching.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in JBR: your questions answered

What should an IGCSE home tutor in JBR cost per hour?+

In-home one-to-one in Dubai runs at roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel priced in, per the Bestimate Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table and advertised independent rates, reviewed October 2026. Online qualified subject tutors sit at AED 150 to AED 300, and specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 or more. IB Gram does not sell home visits in the UAE, so these are market figures rather than a price list. In a JBR tower an in-home hour also loses ten to twenty minutes to parking, the security desk and the lift.

Is online IGCSE tuition cheaper than a tutor visiting our tower?+

On the published bands, yes: AED 150 to AED 300 online against AED 180 to AED 500 in-home, because the second figure carries travel. The larger saving is not on the rate though. It is on the minutes. A visit to a JBR tower spends real time on basement parking, a visitor pass and a shared lift at the hour the building fills up, and that time is billed. An online session starts at the agreed minute, so a sixty-minute booking is sixty minutes of teaching rather than forty-five.

How do I know whether I am paying for the right exam board?+

Ask the school which board and which syllabus code your child is entered for, then ask the tutor the same question before agreeing a rate. Cambridge 0580 Mathematics and Pearson 4MA1 differ on tiering labels, calculator rules and paper structure, so a tutor fluent in one is estimating in the other. A tutor who answers with a code and a tier has already done the preparation. A tutor who answers "IGCSE maths" will learn your child's paper at your expense over the first few weeks.

Does a cheaper tutor actually cost more over a Year 11?+

Frequently, and the mechanism is specific rather than general. Below roughly AED 150 an hour online, sessions usually carry no marked work, which removes the diagnosis that makes tutoring effective. A student gets taught around their misconceptions instead of through them, and three months later the same marks appear. The cheaper hour is only the better buy for a confident student who needs a weekly question-and-answer session. For a student losing marks without knowing why, unmarked hours are the most expensive thing on the invoice.

Should we spread the budget across all my child's weak subjects?+

Usually not. A fixed budget split across four subjects at half an hour each produces four homework reviews and no teaching depth, which is why families doing it see little movement and conclude tutoring does not work. Concentrating the same spend on one subject until marked papers improve, then moving to the second, returns more per dirham. Choose the subject that gates the next stage: a prospective Mathematics or Physics A Level student needs those secured far more than a broad half-grade lift across five.

Does the Core and Extended choice affect what tutoring is worth buying?+

It decides it. Cambridge Core cannot be awarded above a C while Extended reaches A*, and the equivalent split at Pearson is Foundation and Higher. A student entered at the wrong tier has either a ceiling tutoring cannot lift or papers aimed above their current level. Moving from secure Core to viable Extended is a defined piece of work, usually eight to sixteen weeks on the extension topics, which makes it budgetable. Confirm the entry with the school before buying hours, because entries close months before the papers.

Are past papers and mark schemes an extra cost?+

They should not be. Cambridge and Pearson publish syllabuses, specimen papers and past papers on their own websites, and no tutor should charge you for material the board gives away. Nor should a tutor supply board papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads, which is the board's copyright. What you are reasonably paying for is a paper sat under real timing, marked against the published mark scheme, and the explanation of what the error pattern shows. That is work. The document itself is free.

What does examination entry cost if my child sits as a private candidate?+

The examination centre sets that fee per subject rather than the board, so it varies across Dubai and has to be asked for directly from the centre you intend to use. Ask early, because entry deadlines sit months ahead of the papers: a Cambridge June entry closes in the spring, well before the first paper, and the Pearson November 2026 entry had closed long before a window that ran from late October to 19 November 2026. A tutoring plan built without reference to the entry deadline can miss the series entirely, which is the costliest error available.

Is a permit-free tutor a cheaper option in Dubai?+

No, because the permit itself is free. The MoHRE private tutor work permit, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years, and MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time. A tutor working without one is not passing a saving to you; they are carrying a risk of fines and penalties under the applicable laws and offering you no recourse mid-term. No fine amount is published, so treat any figure you are quoted as unverified.

Can we pay for a short block before the exams rather than a whole year?+

Yes, and for many students it is the better purchase. A six to ten week block before a June or November series, built on timed papers marked against the published mark schemes, is good value where the content is broadly there and the marks are not. It is poor value where content is genuinely missing, because ten weeks will not cover a syllabus. The honest test is a marked past paper now: if the errors are technique and timing, a block works, and if whole topics are blank, it does not.

Is a group class at a centre a cheaper substitute for one-to-one?+

It is cheaper per hour, at roughly AED 90 to AED 200 per student for groups of two to four on published Dubai centre price lists, but it is not the same product. Attention divides by group size and the pace is set by the group rather than by your child's error pattern. Groups work well for covering breadth and keeping a student moving. A specific, diagnosed weakness in Extended Chemistry needs one-to-one. Using the group rate as a substitute saves money on the invoice and not on the grade.

How many subjects does my child actually need for UAE equivalency?+

On the British track, the published clarification states five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. One ranking competitor publishes a six-subject requirement, and families who believe it buy tutoring they do not need. Verify your own case with the Ministry, not with a tutoring website.

What should be included in the rate that often is not?+

Three things. Marked work between sessions, because a timed script is the only reliable diagnosis at this level. A short written note to the parent, so you know what was found rather than only that an hour happened. And a plan keyed to your school's own internal deadlines and mock window, which differ between Dubai schools by several weeks. Settle all three before the second session. They are what make two identical hourly figures worth completely different amounts.

At what point should a JBR family stop paying for IGCSE tutoring?+

Three signals. Marked papers have not improved across six to eight weeks of consistent work, which calls for a changed diagnosis rather than more hours. The student brings nothing to the session, which turns a paid hour into a conversation. Or the examination series has been sat, at which point the subject should close rather than taper through the summer. At each point the right action is a review on marked evidence, not an automatic renewal. A provider who will not name a stopping point is selling renewal.

Do rates in Dubai rise closer to the examination series?+

Published rate cards tend not to change, but availability does, and that has the same effect on your options. In the weeks before a June or November series the specialists with convenient slots are already committed, so what remains is either a less suitable match or a less convenient time. Families booking in October for a June series get both the tutor and the slot they want. Families booking in March usually get one of the two, and sometimes pay a premium band for the privilege.

Budget the subject, not the hour

If you are pricing an IGCSE home tutor in JBR, the figure that matters is not the hourly rate. It is what the hour contains and whether it is pointed at the right syllabus code, the right tier and the subject that gates your child's next stage. Send us the school, the board, the codes and the tier, and you will get a tutor matched to exactly that, a trial lesson booked without card details, and a written note on what the marked work shows. Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video to JBR in Gulf Standard Time, with marked papers inside the rate rather than beside it.
