IB Tutor near me in Al Barsha

Typing IB tutor near me in Al Barsha into a phone applies a filter that has nothing to do with teaching: it sorts adults by how far they live from you. This page takes the filter off and replaces it with the one that matters, which is the Diploma clock. What DP1 has to finish by the winter break, what a January mock is really telling you, and what the eight weeks after it can change. Lessons are delivered live online, timed to Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Barsha

A proximity search, answered with a calendar

A near-me search is a map query. The phone answers it with a radius, and the radius is drawn around your home in Al Barsha 1, 2, 3 or South. For a dentist that is the correct filter. For an IB Diploma subject at Higher Level it is close to useless, and it is worth being precise about why. The Diploma is six subjects, three of them at Higher Level, drawn from a menu that includes two mathematics routes, two English routes and a long list of group three and group four options. A student needing Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level with Paper 3 in front of them is not looking for a maths tutor. They are looking for one of a modest number of people in the region who teach that specific paper well.

Draw a five-kilometre circle around Al Barsha 2 and you have filtered that already small group down to whoever happens to live inside it and be free at 17:00 on a Tuesday. The circle does not improve the teaching. It only reduces the choice. Meanwhile the thing that genuinely determines whether the next three months produce a grade change is sitting on a sheet of paper the school sent home in September, and almost nobody reads it as the planning document it is.

That sheet is the Diploma calendar. It carries the internal deadline for every piece of internal assessment, the mock window, the Theory of Knowledge exhibition and essay dates, and the Extended Essay milestones. All of those are set by the school rather than by the IB, because the school has to mark, moderate and upload before the external deadlines fall. Work backwards from them and the picture of what tutoring should be doing in any given fortnight becomes obvious. Work forwards from a vague sense that a child needs help and you buy twelve months of weekly sessions that cover whatever the student happened to be confused about that week.

This page is organised as that calendar. It walks the two-year Diploma from the start of DP1 to the final fortnight, naming what each stretch has to produce and where the recoverable marks sit in each one. It covers the subject-choice decisions in DP1 that quietly determine the ceiling, the January mock and the high-return eight weeks after it, the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay load that runs underneath everything else, and the point in the year where a subject option is still changeable and the point after which it is not.

A note on delivery, stated early so there is no ambiguity. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we arrange only in India. Every lesson described on this page is one tutor and one student over live video, at a time agreed with the family. Where the in-home market is mentioned, it is being priced and compared, not offered. The relevant Dubai market band for an in-home one-to-one visit is roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, and a section below looks at exactly what the difference between that and an online specialist rate is actually buying.

At a glance

  • A near-me radius filters by distance, which is not a variable in teaching quality
  • Internal assessment deadlines in Al Barsha schools are school-set, not IB-set
  • The eight weeks after a January mock is the highest-return window in the Diploma
  • IB Gram delivers one-to-one lessons over live video; home visits are an India-only service
  • In-home visits in Dubai are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, travel included
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three IB programmes matter to Al Barsha families, and each has its own clock. The notes below are about timing rather than content: when the decisions fall, and when it becomes too late to change them.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Four criteria per subject, each marked out of eight against a published strand descriptor. A student can know the content and sit at a five because the criterion being assessed is inquiry or communication rather than knowledge. The Personal Project in the final year is a substantial piece of independent work with its own supervision and reporting requirements, and it tends to collide with everything else in the spring term.

In the Al Barsha cluster the MYP runs at Dubai International Academy Al Barsha and GEMS World Academy Dubai, and the handover into the Diploma is where most tuition enquiries originate. The critical timing point is that Diploma subject choices are made in the final MYP year, on the strength of criterion grades that measure something different from what a Diploma paper measures.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects with three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Internal assessment carries real weight in every subject and is produced over weeks rather than hours. Final grades run to seven per subject with up to three bonus points available from the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge matrix, making 45 the maximum.

Dubai schools register for the May session, which makes the preceding autumn and winter the loaded part of the calendar: internal assessment deadlines, mocks and the Extended Essay final draft all land in that window. The November session exists mainly as a resit route. An Al Barsha family planning tuition should treat September to February as the expensive months and March onwards as consolidation.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Two or more Diploma courses combined with a career-related study, a reflective project, service learning and a language development strand. It carries a lighter academic load than the full Diploma and suits a student who is strong in a narrow area. Tutoring concentrates on the Diploma courses taken and on the reflective project's research method rather than across six subjects.

Few Dubai schools license the Career-related Programme, so an Al Barsha family considering it is generally looking outside the immediate district. Where a student is on it, the tutoring requirement and the cost are both materially lower than for a full Diploma, which is worth knowing before assuming the two are priced alike.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The courses below are the ones Al Barsha Diploma students most often need help with, and the notes name the component where the clock runs out rather than the content list, which is in the school's subject guide.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The calculator-free paper is where the term's work shows or does not. At Higher Level, Paper 3 is a two-part investigation worth roughly a fifth of the grade, and students typically meet their first full one in a mock. The exploration has to be scoped before the end of DP1 to be written without panic in DP2.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Calculator-permitted throughout, which students mistake for easier. Modelling questions require choosing a function family and justifying the choice, and statistics questions require stating the conclusion in the right terms. The exploration tends to arrive data-rich and analysis-poor because the data was collected before the question was settled.

Chemistry

HL and SL

The investigation is the piece that needs calendar discipline: a research question agreed in DP1, data collected before the winter break of DP2, and the evaluation written with time left. Content-wise, organic mechanisms and energetics carry the losses, usually for notation reasons rather than conceptual ones.

Physics

HL and SL

Fields and circuits are the reliable collapse points, and the cause is unit tracking and sign conventions rather than concept. Paper 2 extended responses reward a labelled diagram drawn before any algebra. Higher Level adds depth that compounds any weakness carried out of the Middle Years Programme.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume makes it look like a memory subject and command terms make it one about precision. Outline, explain, distinguish and evaluate each demand a different answer shape, and writing everything known on a four-mark question scores two. Data-based questions on Paper 2 are the most recoverable component in the subject.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The Individual Oral needs a global issue and two extracts, one from each of two works, and must be rehearsed rather than improvised. Paper 1 is an unseen guided analysis where the common failure is describing content instead of analysing construction. Both are coachable; neither improves by reading more.

Economics

HL and SL

Three internal assessment commentaries, each under 800 words, each tied to a different syllabus unit, each needing a news article that actually illustrates something assessable. Students pick articles first and discover the mismatch later. Diagrams drawn early and referred to in the prose carry marks that argument alone cannot recover.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tool application separates grades: students name a framework and then do not apply it to the case in front of them. The Higher Level extended case study is released in advance, which rewards preparation and punishes students who meet it for the first time in the examination hall.

Computer Science

HL and SL

The developed solution and its documentation form the internal assessment, and the documentation is where marks go: the criteria reward a defensible design record rather than working code alone. Pseudocode and trace tables are under-practised and directly tested.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Core

The exhibition requires three objects and a 950-word commentary tied to published prompts; the essay is 1,600 words on a prescribed title. The Extended Essay is 4,000 words assessed across five criteria, with the research question doing most of the work. Together they contribute up to three points, and both run underneath every other deadline.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, all delivered one-to-one over live video, and the choice between them is decided by where the student sits on the Diploma clock rather than by preference.

DP1 weekly, building the foundation that DP2 spends

A weekly slot through the first Diploma year, following the school's scheme of work. The DP1 job is different from the DP2 job: it is about closing the gap left by the Middle Years Programme or an IGCSE set, and about getting internal assessment scoped before the summer. Families who do this report a much quieter DP2.

  • Follows the school's own scheme of work and its internal dates
  • Internal assessment topic tested for viability before the summer break
  • One subject at a time, added to only when the first is stable
  • Written note after each session naming what to practise

The eight weeks after the mock

The highest-return block in the two years. It opens with the mock script read question by question, produces an error log, and spends eight weeks closing exactly those errors with timed papers from week four. Two or three sessions a week is normal. It ends when the window ends.

  • Diagnosis from the actual mock script, not from the grade
  • Written topic sequence before anything is paid for
  • Timed papers against the published mark scheme from week four
  • A second timed paper at week eight to confirm movement

Coursework method coaching alongside everything else

Irregular short sessions attached to internal assessment, the Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge, running underneath the weekly work. The student writes; the tutor teaches the subject content, questions the method and gives feedback on the student's own drafts. Nothing is written, rewritten or supplied by the tutor.

  • Research question tested for answerability before the student commits
  • Criterion-by-criterion feedback against the published descriptors
  • Comment on the student's draft only, never text from the tutor
  • Notes a school supervisor can read without concern

What a near-me search returns in Al Barsha, and why the radius is the wrong filter

Run the search and look at what comes back. A proximity query returns tuition centres with Al Barsha addresses, agency landing pages listing every district in Dubai, individual tutors advertising a drive radius, and marketplaces sorting profiles by distance. None of those result sets is sorted by the thing a Diploma student needs, which is whether the person teaches the exact course at the exact level. Distance is being used as a proxy for availability, and availability is being used as a proxy for suitability, and by the time you have made both substitutions you are choosing a Higher Level Chemistry tutor on the basis of where they parked.

The arithmetic of the Diploma makes this worse than it sounds. Six subjects, three at Higher Level, from a menu with two mathematics routes, two English routes, five group three subjects commonly offered and five or six group four options. The number of distinct subject-and-level combinations a Dubai school produces across a cohort is large, and the number of students in any one of them at a single Al Barsha school can be in single figures. The teaching population that matches a given combination is correspondingly small, and it is not distributed by neighbourhood.

What the radius does buy is a physical presence, and there is a real case for that in some situations. A younger student who cannot be left alone with a screen, or a student whose difficulty is organisational rather than academic, genuinely benefits from an adult in the room. The Dubai in-home market serves that need and prices it at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the figure. IB Gram does not sell in-home visits in the UAE at all, so if that is the requirement, the right answer is a local in-home tutor rather than us.

For a DP1 or DP2 student working towards a May session, the trade almost always runs the other way. Removing the radius widens the pool to everyone who teaches the course, recovers the twenty to thirty minutes an arriving tutor spends on the journey and the doorstep, removes traffic as a cancellation cause, and takes the drive out of the hourly rate. What replaces the radius as a filter is the calendar, and the rest of this page uses it.

The two-year Diploma clock, term by term

The Dubai academic year opens in late August or early September, breaks in mid-December, resumes in January and closes in late June or early July. Laid across two Diploma years that gives six terms, and each one has a job that is different enough from the others that tutoring bought for the wrong term is largely wasted money. The common failure is buying DP2 tutoring in DP1 style, which means weekly content coverage in a year where the marks are being decided by coursework and paper technique.

DP1 term one is the adjustment term. A student arriving from the Middle Years Programme or from IGCSE meets the pace difference in the first fortnight, and the gap is nearly always in the same places: algebraic fluency for both mathematics routes, quantitative handling in the sciences, and the volume of independent reading in group one and group three subjects. Tutoring in this term is cheap in the sense that it is preventative, and it is the term families most often skip.

DP1 terms two and three carry the decisions. Subject and level changes are still possible in most Al Barsha schools during term two, and become progressively harder after that. The internal assessment topic in most subjects can and should be scoped before the summer break, and the Extended Essay subject and research question are usually settled in term three. A student who reaches the summer with a viable research question and an exploration topic that has survived a conversation with the teacher has removed most of the pressure from the following November.

DP2 is three terms with no slack in them. Term one is internal assessment submission and the Extended Essay final draft. Term two opens with mocks and contains the single highest-return eight-week window in the programme. Term three is papers, and new content stops being worth teaching about six weeks out. Any tutoring plan for a DP2 student should be placeable on this grid, and if it cannot be placed, it is not pointed at anything.

DP1 is the year that decides the grade without producing one

No external marks are awarded in DP1 and almost every lever that matters is pulled in it. That is the uncomfortable shape of the first Diploma year, and it is why an Al Barsha family that waits for a bad DP2 report before acting is acting a year late. Three decisions in DP1 set the ceiling: which subjects, which levels, and whether the internal assessment is scoped early or late.

The level decision is the biggest and the least evidenced. Students choose three Higher Level subjects in the final Middle Years Programme year or at the end of Year 11, on the strength of criterion grades or IGCSE results that measure something different from what a Diploma paper measures. A student with a grade 7 at IGCSE Chemistry has demonstrated that they can handle IGCSE Chemistry; Higher Level Chemistry asks for quantitative work at a different density. Most Al Barsha schools allow a level change during DP1 term two, and the window closes after that. Two or three sessions plus a marked Higher Level past paper produces real evidence to take into that conversation.

The second lever is subject-choice repair. A student who has taken Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches because it is thought to be the more prestigious route, and who is drowning in the calculator-free paper, may be better served by Applications and Interpretation, particularly where the intended degree does not require Analysis and Approaches. That conversation has to happen in DP1 and it requires somebody who knows which UAE and overseas university programmes actually specify which route. Guessing at it is expensive in both directions.

The third is coursework scoping, which is the cheapest high-value thing available in the whole Diploma. A chemistry investigation whose data cannot be collected, a mathematical exploration whose mathematics sits below the level of the course, an Extended Essay question that cannot be answered in 4,000 words: all three are visible to a specialist in a twenty-minute conversation and all three are catastrophic if discovered in November of DP2. Scoping them before the DP1 summer break costs a handful of sessions and removes a term of pressure.

The January mock, and the eight weeks that follow it

  • Ask the school for the mock script, not just the grade
  • Separate the losses into not knowing, not finishing and not answering
  • Timing problems are fixed by timed papers, not by more teaching
  • Confirm movement with a second timed paper at the end of the block

Al Barsha schools run Diploma mocks in January or February, and the script that comes back is the most useful document a parent receives in two years. It is also the one most consistently misread. A mock grade of four is not a diagnosis; it is a summary statistic that conceals the diagnosis. The diagnosis is in the distribution: which paper, which question numbers, which command terms, which topics, and whether the losses came from not knowing, not finishing or not answering the question asked.

Those three causes need completely different responses and they are distinguishable from the script. A student who lost marks on the last two questions of every paper has a timing problem, and timing is fixed with timed practice rather than content teaching. A student who lost marks scattered across one topic has a content gap, and that is six to eight sessions of teaching. A student who wrote accurate material that did not answer the command term has a technique problem, which is the fastest of the three to fix and the one most often mistaken for a content gap.

The eight weeks after the mock are the highest-return period in the Diploma for a simple reason: the student now knows the format, the content is mostly covered, and there is still enough time for correction to bed in. Earlier in the year there is no diagnostic information; later there is no time. An eight-week block pointed at a named error log, with timed papers from week four and a second timed paper at the end to confirm movement, does more than twelve months of undirected weekly sessions and costs a fraction of it.

What should not happen in that window is new content at pace. By January a DP2 student has seen most of the syllabus, and the marginal value of covering an unfamiliar Higher Level option topic for the first time is low compared with converting partially-known material into marks. The exception is a genuine hole, where a topic was taught during an absence or in a term with a staffing gap, and that shows up clearly in the mock distribution. Everything else is technique.

05

What the hourly rate inside a five-kilometre radius is actually paying for

A near-me search tends to produce in-home quotes, so it is worth isolating what the difference in price between those and an online specialist consists of. The Dubai in-home one-to-one band is roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour, with Bestimate's rate table putting it at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors advertising up to AED 500. Online qualified subject tutors are quoted at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. IB and IGCSE specialists sit at AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate putting specialists at AED 200 to 450 and upwards.

Line those up and the in-home premium over a comparable online specialist is somewhere between AED 50 and AED 150 an hour. That is the travel. It buys a car journey, a parking search, and the fifteen minutes of settling that follows an arrival. Over a weekly session for a nine-month school year, the midpoint of that premium is in the region of AED 3,500 to 4,000, which is real money for a service that produces no teaching. It is a legitimate purchase if a physical presence is what the student needs. It is worth knowing that is what the line item is.

At the other end of the market, budget online tutoring runs from AED 45 to 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya AED 33 to 52, and Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly hour put that band at roughly AED 240 to 600 a month against AED 600 to 1,200 for a mid-market tutor and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and upwards for an exam-year specialist. The premium tier of named or examiner-led tutors reaches AED 500 to 650 and beyond, with BartyED publishing AED 650. Monthly packages advertised in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

Three cautions on all of it. These are other providers' published rates read in October 2026 and any of them can change; they are not IB Gram's price list, and we quote ours on request rather than printing a figure that will be stale. A rate tells you nothing about diagnosis quality, which is the actual variable. And beware the examiner premium specifically: unless current examiner status can be evidenced, the word is a marketing term, and examiner status in any case gives no access to marking, boundaries or paper content.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, running underneath everything

  • Theory of Knowledge: a three-object exhibition with a 950-word commentary, plus a 1,600-word essay
  • Extended Essay: 4,000 words, five criteria, a school-assigned supervisor
  • Up to three points available from the combined matrix
  • A tutor may teach, question and comment; a tutor may not write or rewrite

The core runs on its own clock and collides with every other deadline, which is why it is the part of the Diploma most often left until it is a crisis. Theory of Knowledge requires an exhibition of three objects with a 950-word commentary linking each to a prompt from the published list, and an essay of 1,600 words on one of the prescribed titles. The Extended Essay is 4,000 words in a subject of the student's choosing, assessed across five criteria, with a supervisor assigned by the school. Between them they contribute up to three points through the published matrix, which in practice is the difference between a 34 and a 37.

The scheduling problem is that both are produced in the same months as internal assessment. An Al Barsha DP2 student in October is typically carrying a chemistry investigation, a mathematical exploration, three economics commentaries, a Theory of Knowledge essay draft and an Extended Essay final draft, alongside six taught courses and the KHDA mandatory subjects. Nothing in that list is optional and nothing in it can be done in an evening. The students who come through it comfortably are the ones who scoped the Extended Essay question in DP1 term three and did the bulk of the writing in the summer.

On what a tutor may do here, the boundary needs stating rather than implying. A tutor may teach the subject content the essay rests on, discuss whether a research question is answerable in the word count, explain what each criterion asks for, show the student how to evaluate a source, and give feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not write any part of it, rewrite paragraphs into better English, supply data or hand over a model to adapt. The work is submitted as the student's own and a breach is a malpractice finding against the student. There is an open market in completed Internal Assessments in this region, advertised at four-figure AED prices; it is an academic-integrity breach and we will not go near it.

What remains is still the difference between a three-point bonus and a zero. Most Extended Essay underperformance is structural rather than linguistic: a question too broad to answer, sources that do not support the argument, a reflection section written in an hour, a conclusion that restates the introduction. A specialist reading a student's draft identifies all four in one pass, and the student fixes them. That is a legitimate, useful and entirely permissible piece of work.

07

Where the local tutor pool genuinely runs out

Availability transparency is the gap nobody in this market fills, so here it is plainly. There are Diploma courses where the supply of competent tutors in the UAE is thin enough that a proximity search will return nothing useful, and a provider that does not say so simply sends a generalist. The pattern is consistent: group four options at Higher Level, the less commonly taken group three subjects, Higher Level mathematics Paper 3 specifically, and languages other than English and Arabic.

The reason is cohort arithmetic rather than anything mysterious. A Dubai school might run one Higher Level group in a minority subject every other year. The teachers who have taught it are correspondingly few, and most of them are employed full-time in schools and constrained by permit conditions about which students they may tutor. Abu Dhabi's ADEK ethics rules bar school staff from paid tutoring of students at their own school, and the MoHRE permit code of conduct similarly bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school, which removes the most obvious local candidates from the pool for exactly the students who need them.

Our answer to a gap is to name it. If no specialist in a course is free at the hour an Al Barsha family needs, one of three things is true and you will be told which: another slot works with the right person, there is a date when they free up, or the right person is based outside the UAE and teaches the same course over the same live video at the same Gulf Standard Time hour. That last option is the one most providers conceal, sometimes behind a non-UAE phone number on a UAE page. We would rather state it, because a family that knows where the tutor is sitting can make a decision.

The alternative, which is the industry default, is to put a mathematics teacher in front of a Higher Level Analysis and Approaches Paper 3 problem and let the family work it out in six weeks. That costs more than the honest answer, because the six weeks are not recoverable.

KHDA, the inspection bands, and what they tell a Diploma parent

Dubai private schools are regulated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, described on u.ae as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. KHDA inspects annually and publishes a report grading the school on a six-band scale. Every Al Barsha school has one and it is free to read, and it contains more usable information about the teaching your child actually receives than any open day.

The context helps. Dubai had 387,441 students across 227 private schools in 2024-25, offering 17 different curricula, with UK-curriculum schools the largest group by enrolment at 37 per cent, Indian curriculum at 26 per cent, American at 14 per cent and the International Baccalaureate at 7 per cent. That last figure explains a lot about a near-me search: the IB is a minority curriculum in Dubai by enrolment, so the local density of IB-experienced teachers is lower than the local density of teachers generally. Dubai's 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK-curriculum and three IB, creating 16,846 new places, and KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees would not rise for 2026-27 under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total.

Reading the report usefully means ignoring the overall band and going to the subject-level judgements, which are broken out. An Outstanding school can have a thin Higher Level Physics department and a Good school can have an exceptional mathematics one, and the band averages those out. Read the attainment and progress judgements by subject, read the commentary on teaching for effective learning, and read the stated areas for improvement. If the same subject appears in that list across three consecutive years, that is structural and your child is not the problem.

A boundary on all of this: IB Gram holds no KHDA, Ministry of Education, IB or Cambridge approval, accreditation or partnership, and no individual tutor acquires one by tutoring. The KHDA Educational Services Permit is a specific instrument for training institutes with physical premises in Dubai, requiring initial approval, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and renewal requested at least 30 days before expiry. We hold none of it and do not claim it, and a page that claims its tutors are approved by KHDA should be asked for the permit number.

Booking from Al Barsha: the trial, the plan and the limits

  • Send a marked mock script before the trial, not a description of the problem
  • Ask for the error log and the topic sequence in writing before paying
  • Session starts run from 16:15 in Al Barsha 1 to around 17:00 in Al Barsha South
  • July and August are when DP1 internal assessment work should actually happen

The sequence is short and starts with paper rather than conversation. Send the subject, the level, the school and the deadline, and either a marked mock script or recent internal assessment feedback. That is enough to identify a specialist in the exact course. A trial lesson at no cost follows, at a time that fits the school run from your part of Al Barsha, and afterwards you get a written view of what the next eight weeks should do. Nothing is paid before the trial and nothing is committed after it.

The test to apply during the trial is specific. A good specialist will name the component where marks are going before you tell them, and will say what they would do about it in weeks rather than in adjectives. A tutor who spends the hour establishing rapport and asking what the student finds difficult has produced no diagnosis, and you will be paying for the diagnosis in week four instead. Ask for the error log and the topic sequence in writing before anything is paid.

Scheduling in this district runs to a pattern worth stating. The first workable weekday slot is around 16:15 from Al Barsha 1, 16:30 from Al Barsha 2 and closer to 17:00 from Al Barsha 3 and Al Barsha South where a second school run is in play. Arabic and Islamic Education periods are fixed and homework has not shrunk to accommodate tutoring. Ramadan moves families to post-Iftar sessions and the shortened school day opens a late-morning window. The July and August break is the single most underused stretch in the Diploma: a DP1 student can scope and largely write an internal assessment in it, which removes the heaviest pressure from DP2 term one.

On the enquiry form, because it collects data about a minor: year group, subject, level, school and a parent contact is what we need. Not a photograph, not a full report card, not identity documents. Anything sent for diagnostic purposes is used for that and nothing else, and you can ask for it to be deleted at any time. UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection is the governing framework and the privacy link on this page sets out retention periods and the deletion route.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Barsha

The near-me radius lands differently depending on which part of Al Barsha you are in. The notes below say what each community does to an evening, because that is the only part of the geography that actually affects tutoring once the car is removed.

Al Barsha 1

Red Line Metro at Mall of the Emirates, the densest school cluster in the district, and the shortest pickup times. The earliest realistic weekday start here is around 16:15.

Al Barsha 2

Villa compounds behind Umm Suqeim Road with two large schools adjacent. A 16:30 start works; anything earlier runs into the pickup queue on the Al Barsha 2 side.

Al Barsha 3

Residential and further from the Metro. Families here commonly run two pickups in opposite directions when siblings are at different schools, which puts the first workable slot after 17:00.

Al Barsha South

Car-dependent with no Metro station, stretching towards Dubai Science Park and Jumeirah Village. Nord Anglia International School Dubai and Safa Community School sit inside it.

Al Sufouh

West towards the Marina, with university campuses and several international schools. A sibling split between an Al Sufouh school and an Al Barsha school produces one of the harder timetables in New Dubai.

Umm Suqeim

North along the Umm Suqeim Road corridor towards the coast. Students here frequently attend Al Barsha schools, and the homeward run is the slower direction in the evening.

Barsha Heights

Towers rather than villas, on the Red Line. Households here tend to prefer a session after a parent commute rather than immediately after the school day.

Al Quoz

East across Sheikh Zayed Road, mixed residential and industrial, with several schools drawing Al Barsha families and the slower evening crossing.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Barsha

Al Barsha and Al Sufouh IB schools

The Diploma cohort in this part of Dubai is spread across a handful of schools rather than concentrated in one, which is precisely why a proximity search produces thin results for a specific Higher Level course. Students we support here most often need Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics at Higher Level.

  • Dubai International Academy Al Barsha
  • Dubai American Academy
  • GEMS World Academy Dubai
  • Raffles World Academy
  • Nord Anglia International School Dubai

British and American schools in the same radius

Several schools in the Al Barsha radius run no Diploma at all, which matters for a near-me search because it means the local population of IB-experienced teachers is smaller than the local population of teachers. Students at these schools sometimes move to a Diploma school at 16 without moving home.

  • Kings' School Al Barsha
  • American School of Dubai
  • Al Mawakeb School Al Barsha
  • Dubai National School Al Barsha
  • Safa Community School
  • Dubai Heights Academy

Schools are named as context for the district's Diploma provision; IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership or endorsement arrangement with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Name the date the work is pointed at

A mock, an internal assessment submission or the May papers. A subject and a level with no date produces open-ended weekly lessons, which is the most expensive way to buy tutoring and the least likely to move a grade. The date decides the sequence and the intensity.

  2. 02

Send the script, not the summary

A marked mock paper or internal assessment feedback tells a specialist in five minutes what a half-hour conversation cannot. Where nothing marked exists, the tutor sets a short diagnostic inside the trial lesson and builds the plan from that instead.

  3. 03

Trial with the specialist in that course

A no-cost lesson with the tutor who would actually teach it, at a time that fits the school run from your part of Al Barsha. Judge it on whether they identified the losing component before you described it, and on whether they can say what eight weeks would change.

  4. 04

Get the plan in writing against the school calendar

Which week handles which topic, when timed papers start, what the student does between sessions. If the sequence cannot be laid against the deadline sheet the school sent in September, it is not pointed at anything and should not be bought.

  5. 05

Confirm movement at week four and week eight

The error log either shortens or it does not. At week four the right response to no movement is a change of diagnosis or of tutor, not more hours. At week eight a second timed paper settles whether the block worked, which is a question worth answering before buying another.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Course and level, not proximity

A student with Higher Level Analysis and Approaches Paper 3 in front of them is matched to somebody who teaches that paper, rather than to the best available adult inside a five-kilometre circle. The circle reduces the choice without improving anything.

Plans anchored to your school's own calendar

Every engagement is placed against the internal deadline sheet, the mock window and the point at which new content stops being worth teaching. That makes the plan auditable at week four, which an indefinite weekly arrangement never is.

A stated boundary on assessed work

The student writes their own internal assessment, Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge work. We teach the content, question the method and comment on their drafts. Nothing is written, rewritten or supplied by the tutor, and the student is told so in the first session.

Coverage limits disclosed before you book

Where the right specialist is outside the UAE, you are told that before the trial rather than after. Several providers in this market conceal non-UAE delivery behind a local-looking contact route; a family that knows where the tutor sits can make its own decision.

Market rates with sources and dates

Every AED figure here is attributed to the provider that published it and dated to October 2026. Three of the six pages ranking for these searches publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars, which is not the currency a Dubai family pays in.

Built around the Dubai week as it runs

Session starts after the school run clears, Arabic and Islamic Education treated as fixed periods, post-Iftar and late-morning slots during Ramadan, and the July window used for coursework rather than sold as revision.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Barsha: your questions answered

Why does searching for an IB tutor near me in Al Barsha return so few real specialists?+

Because the search filters by distance and the Diploma is a highly subdivided qualification. Six subjects at two levels, two mathematics routes, two English routes and a long list of group three and four options produce a large number of distinct course-and-level combinations, and the teaching population for any one of them is small and not distributed by neighbourhood. Drawing a five-kilometre circle around your villa does not improve the pool; it only cuts it down. The IB is also a minority curriculum in Dubai at around 7 per cent of private enrolment, so local density of IB-experienced teachers is lower than it looks.

Does it matter at all whether the tutor is physically in Dubai?+

For scheduling, yes: Gulf Standard Time has to be the tutor's working hours, not a late-night slot for them. For teaching, no. What matters is whether they teach the course at the level your child sits it, and can read a mark scheme accurately. We will always tell you where a tutor is based before you book, because several providers in this market hide non-UAE delivery behind a local-looking contact route, and a family that knows can decide for itself. What we will not do is use distance as a substitute for subject match.

What should a DP1 student at an Al Barsha school have finished by the winter break?+

No unaddressed gap in algebra or in quantitative science work, because both compound for the next eighteen months. Any Higher Level or Standard Level change should be decided or at least evidenced, since most schools close that window during DP1 term two. And the mathematics route question, Analysis and Approaches against Applications and Interpretation, should be settled on the basis of performance on a calculator-free paper rather than on which course sounds more demanding. Internal assessment topics can wait until term three, but they should be scoped before the summer rather than in DP2 September.

How should I read a January mock result rather than just the grade?+

Ask the school for the script. Then split the lost marks into three groups: marks lost on the final questions of every paper, which is a timing problem; marks clustered in one or two topics, which is a content gap; and marks lost on accurate material that did not answer the command term, which is technique. The three need different responses and different numbers of sessions, and only the second is fixed by teaching more content. Most students at a five are losing marks they already know how to earn, which is why the eight weeks after a mock are so productive.

What does the travel premium in a Dubai tutoring rate actually buy?+

A car journey and the fifteen minutes of settling that follows an arrival. In-home one-to-one visits in Dubai are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour against AED 200 to 450 for an online specialist, so the premium is somewhere between AED 50 and AED 150 an hour, with Bestimate putting in-home at AED 180 to 350. Across a weekly session for a school year that is in the region of AED 3,500 to 4,000 for transport. It is a reasonable purchase if a physical presence is what the child needs. It produces no teaching, and these are other providers' figures read in October 2026.

When do Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay deadlines land in a Dubai school year?+

Both run underneath everything else and collide with internal assessment in DP2 term one. The Extended Essay subject and research question are usually settled in DP1 term three, with the final draft due in the autumn of DP2. The Theory of Knowledge exhibition, three objects with a 950-word commentary, and the 1,600-word essay on a prescribed title typically sit in the same window. Exact dates are school-set, so they are on the calendar your school issued in September. The two together carry up to three points through the published matrix.

Which Higher Level subjects are hardest to find a tutor for in this market?+

Group four options at Higher Level, the less commonly taken group three subjects, Higher Level mathematics Paper 3 specifically, and languages other than English and Arabic. The cause is cohort arithmetic: a Dubai school may run a minority Higher Level group once every two years, so few teachers have taught it. Permit conditions narrow it further, since the MoHRE code of conduct and ADEK's ethics rules both bar tutoring students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Where we cannot cover something, we say so rather than substituting a generalist.

What do the KHDA inspection bands mean in practice for a Diploma parent?+

KHDA inspects annually and grades on six bands from Outstanding down to Very Weak, and the band is an average that conceals departmental variation. An Outstanding school can run a thin Higher Level Physics department; a Good school can have an exceptional mathematics one. Go to the subject-level attainment and progress judgements, the commentary on teaching for effective learning, and the stated areas for improvement. If the same subject appears in that last list for three years running, it is structural. All of this is published and free to read before you choose Higher Level subjects.

Can a Standard Level student move up to Higher Level during DP1?+

In most Al Barsha schools, yes, during term one and sometimes into term two, after which it becomes impractical because the Higher Level content taught in the interim has to be caught up. The decision should rest on evidence rather than ambition: two or three sessions on genuine Higher Level material followed by a timed Higher Level past paper marked to the scheme produces something a head of department will engage with. The reverse move, down from Higher to Standard, stays available longer but costs a Higher Level slot that may be required for a degree route.

How much free time does an Al Barsha Diploma student realistically have in a week?+

Less than the timetable suggests. Six Diploma courses, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Activity, Service sit alongside the KHDA mandatory subjects, which are required in all Dubai private schools regardless of curriculum: Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies. KHDA calculates mandatory-subject instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit and advises a minimum of 25 minutes per lesson, and schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies. Those periods are real and they are not optional, so an evening tutoring slot competes with homework that has not shrunk.

Is a tutor allowed to look at my child's Extended Essay draft at all?+

Yes. A tutor may teach the subject content the essay rests on, discuss whether the research question can be answered in 4,000 words, explain what each of the five criteria asks for, show the student how to evaluate a source, and give feedback on a draft the student has written themselves. A tutor may not write any part of it, rewrite paragraphs into better prose, supply data or provide a model to adapt. The essay is submitted as the student's own work and a breach is a malpractice finding against them. School-assigned supervision remains the school's responsibility.

My child is predicted a four in a subject a university offer requires. What now?+

Get the mock script and find out which of the three causes applies, because the answer changes the plan entirely. A timing problem at a four is often worth two grades and takes four to six sessions. A content gap in one topic is six to eight. A prediction based on evenly spread weakness across the whole syllabus is a harder conversation and the honest answer may be that the offer needs a backup. Also check whether the prediction is from mock performance or from coursework, because internal assessment marks are already banked and cannot be improved after submission.

Should we tutor the weakest subject or the one closest to a grade boundary?+

Usually the one closest to a boundary, which is counter-intuitive and almost always right. A student two marks below a boundary in one subject and twenty below in another will gain a point faster in the first, and the total is what the university offer is written against. The exception is where the weak subject is a required one for a specific degree, in which case it has to be fixed regardless of efficiency. The mock script tells you where the boundaries sit relative to the marks, which is why the script matters more than the grade.

Do you work with the school or around it?+

With it, as far as the school permits. Tutoring follows your child's own scheme of work and their internal deadline sheet rather than running a parallel syllabus, because a student carrying two different sequences in one subject is being made to do more work for less. Where a school is happy to share the mock script and the internal assessment feedback, that material shapes the plan. Where it is not, we work from what you can send. We do not contact a school directly without a parent asking us to.

What is the no-cost trial lesson actually testing?+

Whether the tutor can diagnose. A full one-to-one lesson with the specialist who would teach the course, working from whatever marked material you send or from a short diagnostic set in the session. Afterwards you get a written view of what eight weeks should cover. The thing to judge is whether they named the component where marks are going before you told them, and whether they described the fix in weeks rather than in adjectives. No payment is taken beforehand and nothing is committed afterwards, so the only cost is the hour.

Take the radius off and use the calendar

Proximity is the one variable in Diploma tutoring that does not affect the teaching. Send the subject, the level, the school and the date the work is pointed at, with a marked mock script if there is one, and we will put a specialist in that exact course on a no-cost trial at a time that fits an Al Barsha school run. You will get a written plan laid against your school's own deadline sheet, including an honest account of what the available weeks cannot do. Lessons are one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. Nothing is paid before the trial and nothing is committed after it.
