IB & IGCSE in Emaar South

The honest answer to is there anyone near me who knows this

Yes, there are people who know IB Physics properly. No, there are very few of them within driving distance of Emaar South, and a parent deserves that stated plainly rather than discovered after a term. This page is written to answer the question directly, including the parts that are not flattering to us, because the alternative in this market is a confident claim that nobody can test.

Start with why the pool is small. Physics is a minority subject at Diploma level to begin with: most IB schools run one or two physics classes against several for biology. Of the teachers who deliver it, a smaller number teach Higher Level, which adds fields, electromagnetic induction and quantum phenomena and raises the analytical demand at the top of the markbands. Of those, a smaller number again have taught the particular Paper 3 option a given school has chosen. Each step narrows the field substantially, and none of the steps is about Emaar South at all.

Then add geography. Emaar South has no school inside it, so no resident teaching population has formed here. A tutor coming to this community is making a twenty-five to forty-five minute journey each way out to the southern edge of the emirate, in afternoon traffic, for one lesson. The number of Higher Level physics teachers who both exist and are willing to do that is small enough that a proximity-filtered search returns a list selected almost entirely by willingness to travel.

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE. Home visits are a service we run in India only, so we are not competing on that journey at all. Emaar South students are taught live one-to-one over video on Gulf Standard Time, with the marked script, the markband and the data booklet on a shared screen and graphs drawn on a shared surface that is saved. That removes the travel filter from the match. It does not create physicists, and this page will not suggest otherwise.

What the rest of this page gives you is something more useful than a claim: a way to test one. There are six specific questions a parent can ask any physics tutor, in any market, whose answers distinguish somebody who has taught the course from somebody who is good at physics. They cost nothing to ask, they work on us as well as on anybody else, and they are a better protection than any amount of marketing copy, including this.

One factual note. KHDA oversees the quality of private education in Dubai, inspects schools annually and publishes the reports. It does not accredit private tutors, and IB Gram holds no KHDA permit, approval or partnership and operates no UAE centre. Individual tutors in the UAE need the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years. It is a legal licence, not evidence that anybody has taught physics.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics reaches Emaar South students through the Diploma, and they arrive at it from the Middle Years Programme or from IGCSE. Each route leaves a different gap, and each affects how specialist the help needs to be.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme physics

Taken at Higher or Standard Level, with Papers 1 and 2 at both levels, Paper 3 added at Higher Level, and the scientific investigation worth 20%. Higher Level adds fields, induction and quantum phenomena to the core and raises markband demand at the top. The data booklet is supplied and most candidates have never located anything in it.

An Emaar South Diploma physics student is in the narrowest part of this market. Standard Level is findable; Higher Level with a specific Paper 3 option is not, within a drive. The practical response is to establish the option before looking for anybody, because it is the detail that determines whether a match is real.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Sciences

Marked against four criteria from A to D, each 0 to 8, converted to a 1-7 grade. Criterion B is inquiring and designing and criterion D is reflecting on the impacts of science, so a student can hold a strong grade on investigation design while quantitative physics lags. That gap surfaces immediately in Diploma Paper 1.

Middle Years science is far better covered than Diploma physics in this catchment, because the criteria are shared across the sciences and more teachers have worked with them. A family needing Middle Years support will usually be matched within days; the same family two years later should expect a different answer.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Physics into the Diploma

Cambridge 0625 or Pearson 4PH1 is the usual entry route. The gap to Diploma Physics is mathematical rather than conceptual: Diploma questions expect algebraic rearrangement, graph interpretation and uncertainty language that IGCSE touches lightly. Students with Additional Mathematics behind them arrive noticeably better prepared.

Also better covered than Diploma physics, because IGCSE physics is taught in far more schools and by far more teachers. An Emaar South family whose child is at IGCSE has a genuine choice of specialists; the scarcity described on this page is specific to the Diploma and particularly to Higher Level.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Where physics is taken as one of the Diploma courses within the Career-related Programme it is examined identically, investigation included. Students on this route sometimes have fewer timetabled contact hours for the same assessment, which raises rather than lowers the value of specialist support.

Rare across this catchment, which compounds the scarcity problem: a family whose child takes Diploma physics within the Career-related Programme is looking for a specialist in a minority subject on a minority route. Online delivery is the only realistic route to one from Emaar South.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The physics components and topics where a specialist and a generalist diverge most sharply. Each note says what somebody who has taught the course knows that somebody who merely knows physics does not.

Paper 1: multiple choice

HL and SL

A specialist knows no method marks exist here, so a correct chain ending in a wrong power of ten scores nothing, and that Paper 1 improvement therefore comes from unit discipline, estimation and speed rather than deeper understanding. A generalist teaches the physics again and the score does not move.

Paper 2: extended response

HL and SL

Method marks are available, so a structured answer stating its assumptions earns partial credit even when the arithmetic fails. A specialist teaches that structure explicitly. A generalist assumes a correct answer is the goal, which leaves available marks uncollected on every long question.

Paper 3 at Higher Level

HL only

Data analysis plus the school's chosen option topic, examined separately from the core. A specialist asks which option before agreeing to teach. A generalist does not know the question exists, and a student taught only the core arrives at Paper 3 having never attempted one whole.

Uncertainty and error propagation

HL and SL

Examined in Paper 2, in Paper 3 and explicitly in the investigation's analysis criterion. A specialist treats it as examinable content with finite rules. A generalist treats it as laboratory housekeeping, which is how a student with clean data and no error bars ends up mid-band.

Graph technique

HL and SL

Axis labels with quantity and unit, sensible scales, a line of best fit through the spread, gradients read with a large triangle, and maximum and minimum gradient lines for uncertainty. Each earns marks independently of the physics, which a specialist knows and treats as a block of its own.

Linearisation

HL and SL

Rearranging a relationship so a straight-line plot is possible, deciding what goes on each axis before plotting. A specialist drills the standard forms until a square root or reciprocal suggests itself. A generalist can do it and has never taught a student to recognise when to.

The scientific investigation

HL and SL

Worth 20%, marked on criteria rewarding a methodology addressing all relevant variables and processing that includes uncertainties. A specialist insists on a measurable independent variable and a pilot run. A generalist helps with the physics and lets the design fail quietly.

Fields and induction at Higher Level

HL only

Gravitational and electric fields, potential, and electromagnetic induction. The examined losses are conflating field strength with potential and getting the direction of an induced effect wrong. A specialist drills the direction rule rather than deriving it under time pressure.

Quantum and nuclear physics

HL and SL, deeper at HL

Photoelectric effect, atomic spectra, decay and binding energy. The recurring loss is electronvolts against joules, and mass defect calculations rounded early. Both are conversion habits a specialist names on sight from a marked script.

Mechanics and momentum

HL and SL

The trap is sign convention: without a fixed positive direction a student produces a correct magnitude with the wrong sign, which in a momentum question is the whole answer. A specialist makes the free-body diagram a non-negotiable first step.

Electric circuits

HL and SL

Examiners draw circuits that are awkward to read on purpose. A specialist teaches redrawing in a standard layout before any calculation, which takes ninety seconds and converts a hard question into a routine one. Very few students have ever been told to do it.

The data booklet

HL and SL

Permitted in the examination and a liability for anyone meeting it cold. A specialist sets an hour of annotating it weeks in advance, so a candidate neither searches for a relationship under time pressure nor derives something that was printed.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four arrangements, including two that are smaller promises than a full term. All are live one-to-one video with a matched specialist and none involves travel to a UAE address.

Full term with a matched Higher Level specialist

What a family actually wants: one specialist across a term, matched to the level and the Paper 3 option the school teaches, working from the student's own marked scripts. It is also the arrangement with the longest wait, because the pool is small, and we will tell you the wait before you commit.

  • Matched to level and the Paper 3 option by name
  • Marked scripts and the markband shared on screen
  • Graphs drawn on a shared surface and saved week to week
  • A written note after each session naming the next target

Uncertainty and graph technique block

Four to six sessions on the quantitative skills marked independently of the physics. It does not need an option match, so it is available when a full specialist is not, and it pays into Paper 2, Paper 3 and the investigation at once. The honest smaller promise when a wait is unworkable.

  • Absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainty to fluency
  • Propagation through products, quotients and powers
  • Linearisation drilled on real past-paper relationships
  • Maximum and minimum gradient lines for uncertainty in a gradient

Investigation supervision only

Support on the scientific investigation without a full course commitment, which is better covered than Higher Level teaching because the criteria are shared across the sciences. Aimed at a measurable variable, a method addressing the relevant variables, and processing with uncertainties.

  • Research question narrowed until the variable is measurable
  • A pilot run insisted on before real data collection
  • Criteria explained with their mark allocations
  • Feedback on one complete draft the student has written

Paper 3 block once an option match exists

Four to six sessions on the Higher Level third paper alone, because its data-analysis and option content is examined separately and revising the core does not prepare anyone for it. Needs the option confirmed first, which is why we ask for it before matching rather than after.

  • Whole Paper 3 sections under timed conditions
  • Data-analysis question types worked through systematically
  • The named option covered on its own terms
  • Partial-credit strategy for questions that cannot be completed

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Emaar South

01

The arithmetic of a very small pool

  • Four of the five cuts are about teaching experience, not geography
  • The Paper 3 option is a real cut, not a detail
  • The driving cut is the severe one and the only one delivery can remove
  • Where your request sits in the funnel predicts the wait

Here is the funnel, stated plainly, because a parent asking whether anyone nearby knows this syllabus is entitled to see the working rather than a reassurance. Begin with teachers who can teach physics competently at secondary level. Narrow to those who have taught the IB Diploma specifically, which is a minority of them, since most physics teaching worldwide is A Level, AP or a national curriculum. Narrow again to those who have taught Higher Level, with its fields, induction and quantum content and its higher markband demand.

Narrow a third time to those who have taught the particular Paper 3 option a given school has chosen, because the option is examined and not every physics teacher has delivered every one. Narrow a fourth time to those with a free slot that matches a student's actual availability, which in Emaar South is late because of the journey. Each of those four cuts is substantial, and the result is a pool measured in individuals rather than in dozens.

Now add the fifth cut, which is the one a near-me search applies and the only one that has nothing to do with teaching: willingness to drive twenty-five to forty-five minutes each way to the southern edge of the emirate, through afternoon traffic, for a single lesson. In a subject whose pool has already been cut four times, that fifth cut removes very nearly everybody who remains.

Online delivery removes the fifth cut and leaves the first four intact. That is the honest description of what it does: it does not expand the number of people who have taught Higher Level physics with your school's option, it stops geography deciding which of them you can reach. The table sets the funnel out so a family can see where their own request sits, which also predicts how long a match will take.

Six questions that test any physics tutor's claim

  • Ask these on the free trial, before any money moves
  • They work on us as readily as on anybody else
  • A specialist answers each in a sentence without preamble
  • The sixth question is the most revealing of the six

These work on us as well as on anyone else, and they cost nothing to ask. Each has a short definite answer that somebody who has taught the course gives immediately and somebody who is simply good at physics does not. Use them on the free trial lesson, or in a first message, before any money changes hands.

First: which Paper 3 option have you taught? A specialist names one or more options. Anybody who asks what you mean has not taught Higher Level recently. Second: how many method marks are available on Paper 1? The answer is none, and a tutor who does not know that will prepare for Paper 1 as though it were Paper 2, which is the commonest structural error in physics tutoring.

Third: what does the analysis criterion in the investigation require beyond correct processing? The answer is uncertainties, and a tutor who does not say so will help a student produce a tidy report that caps mid-band. Fourth: how do you find the uncertainty in a gradient? The answer involves maximum and minimum gradient lines, and it is a procedure rather than an insight, so fluency with it is a reasonable proxy for having taught the course.

Fifth: what is in the data booklet that students most often fail to use? A specialist will name something specific rather than talking generally. Sixth, and the most revealing: what would you set in the first session? A specialist names a component and a technique, such as a timed Paper 2 section on graph and uncertainty work. A generalist describes an approach or names a topic. The table collects these with what a good and a weak answer sound like.

The Paper 3 option, and why it narrows the pool again

Paper 3 at Higher Level has two parts: data-analysis questions, which every candidate sits, and an option topic chosen by the school. The option is real examined content, taught in class, and it is not interchangeable. A tutor who has taught one option can prepare a student for its data-analysis section competently and cannot teach an option they have never delivered, any more than a chemistry teacher can teach an unfamiliar option from the textbook in a week.

That is why the first question we ask an Emaar South family enquiring about Higher Level physics is which option the school teaches, before anything else. It sounds administrative and it is the difference between a genuine match and a nominal one. A family who does not know the answer should ask the department, and the answer should be in writing, because it determines who can actually help.

There is a related honesty point about what a non-option specialist can still do. The data-analysis half of Paper 3 is option-independent: it tests graph work, linearisation, uncertainty in a gradient and the interpretation of processed data, all of which transfer across any option. So a tutor without the option match can genuinely improve half of that paper, plus Paper 2 technique, plus the investigation. That is a real and limited offer, and describing it accurately is more useful than overstating it.

What nobody should do is accept an option match on vague terms. If a provider says their tutors cover all options, ask which option this tutor has taught, and to how many cohorts. The answer is short and checkable. In a subject this thin, the temptation to blur that question is considerable, and a family who asks it directly filters out most of the risk in one message.

04

What a non-specialist gets wrong in physics specifically

  • Paper 1 and Paper 2 reward opposite habits and need separate preparation
  • Uncertainty is examined in three places, not laboratory housekeeping
  • Graph marks are awarded independently of understanding the physics
  • The failure is right physics aimed at the wrong target
  • The script comes back unchanged, which is what makes it expensive

The risk in hiring a competent physicist who has not taught the course is not that they will teach wrong physics. It is that they will teach the right physics towards the wrong target, and the script will come back looking the same. That is worth describing concretely, because it is the failure an Emaar South family is most likely to buy when the local pool is thin and somebody plausible is available.

The first error is treating Paper 1 and Paper 2 as one revision task. Paper 1 awards no method marks, so a candidate who understands a question perfectly and mishandles a prefix in the final step scores nothing on it, which means Paper 1 improvement comes from unit discipline, estimation and speed. Paper 2 awards method, so structure and stated assumptions collect partial credit. A tutor who does not know this prepares for one and hopes the other follows.

The second is treating uncertainty as laboratory housekeeping rather than examinable content. It appears in Paper 2, in Paper 3 and explicitly in the investigation's analysis criterion, which asks for processing that is correct and includes uncertainties. A non-specialist helps a student produce clean data and a tidy write-up with no error propagation, which caps the mark in a criterion carrying six marks and leaves everyone puzzled.

The third is missing graph marks entirely. Axis labels with quantity and unit, sensible scales, a line of best fit through the spread, a gradient read with a large triangle, and maximum and minimum gradient lines for uncertainty are each marked independently of whether the student understands the experiment. A tutor who has not taught the course treats graphs as a presentational matter. A specialist treats them as a block of marks worth its own sessions.

05

What happens when nobody is free, said in advance

No competitor page in this market discloses a coverage limit. This one does, because an Emaar South family planning a Year 13 autumn needs to know which requests are filled quickly and which are not, and a pleasant surprise is worth less than an accurate expectation.

Physics at Standard Level is reasonably covered and a match usually takes a few days. Higher Level core is moderate and can take up to a week. Higher Level with a specific Paper 3 option is thin and can take a week or considerably more, depending on which option. Investigation supervision alone, and uncertainty and graph technique alone, are both better covered because neither needs an option match.

When a specialist is not free, what we do is say so and give a date. What we do not do is seat a general science tutor opposite a Higher Level physics candidate, because that costs a family money and a student confidence while teaching nothing the textbook would not have supplied, and it is the quiet default across much of this market. Declining work is unusual enough in this industry to be worth stating as policy rather than as a sentiment.

Where a wait is genuinely unworkable, there is a middle route and it is an honest one. A shorter block on the single most urgent option-independent component, usually uncertainty and graph technique or the investigation's analysis section, is useful in its own right and available immediately. It is a smaller promise than a term of Higher Level teaching. It is also one we can keep, which is the relevant difference.

How to verify what a tutor tells you

  • The MoHRE permit is free, real and can be shown on request
  • Ask narrow questions with short right answers, not broad ones
  • Which option, to how many cohorts, is checkable; experienced with the IB is not
  • Examiner status is rarely verifiable and should not be relied on
  • We make no regulator, board or school approval claims because we hold none

Claims in this market are cheap and verification is mostly free, so it is worth knowing which things can actually be checked. Three can: the legal permit, the specifics of teaching experience, and the output of a trial session. One cannot, and it is the one most heavily advertised.

The permit is straightforward. Individuals providing private lessons in the UAE need the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and granted free of charge for two years, applied for through MoHRE's app, website or e-services with a two working-day completion time. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. A tutor can show it, and since it is free there is no reason not to hold one.

Teaching specifics are checkable by asking narrow questions rather than broad ones. Which Paper 3 option, to how many cohorts. How many method marks on Paper 1. What the analysis criterion requires. These have short right answers. Broad questions, such as whether somebody is experienced with the IB, have no checkable answer and should not be asked, because the answer is always yes.

The thing that cannot be verified is examiner status, and it is the claim most often made. Unless a provider can evidence an individual's current examiner appointment, describing a tutor as an IB examiner is not something a parent can check, and using examiner status to imply access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content would be a false suggestion in any case. IB Gram does not describe its tutors as examiners, holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE or IB approval or partnership, and operates no UAE centre.

07

Why physics is thin everywhere, not just here

  • Physics is the hardest secondary subject to staff across many systems
  • IB schools run fewer physics classes, so Diploma experience accumulates slowly
  • Paper 3 options fragment what experience exists
  • Calibrate expectations to the subject, not the general tutoring market
  • A September request is filled on better terms than a February one

It helps to know this is a supply problem rather than something about Emaar South, because it changes what a family does about it. Physics graduates have a wide range of employment open to them, and school physics teaching competes for them against engineering, software, finance and research. The result, across many education systems, is that physics is the hardest secondary subject to staff, and specialist shortage is a documented feature of the profession rather than a local quirk.

Within the IB specifically, the pool narrows further for structural reasons. Most IB schools run fewer physics classes than biology classes, so fewer teachers accumulate Diploma physics experience even within IB schools. Higher Level cohorts are smaller again. And because the Paper 3 option is a school-level choice, experience fragments across options rather than accumulating in one place.

What that means practically is that a family's expectation should be calibrated to the subject rather than to the general tutoring market. Finding a good IGCSE maths tutor in Dubai is easy and a reasonable benchmark for nothing else. Finding a Higher Level physics tutor with a matching Paper 3 option is a different exercise, and a family that budgets a week of searching rather than an afternoon is simply being realistic.

It also means early booking is worth more in this subject than in any other. A request made in September is filled on different terms from the same request made in February, because the small number of people who can do the work are allocated by then. For an Emaar South household with a Year 13 physics student, booking in the summer before Year 13 is the single most effective thing available, and it costs nothing to ask early.

What the scarce specialist costs, in published AED

Scarcity shows up in price, and the published bands reflect it. Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table places IB, IGCSE and A Level specialists at AED 200-450 or more an hour. Unitors publishes IB tuition from AED 200 for qualified subject tutors online. TutorChase quotes AED 270. BartyED quotes AED 650 for premium named tutors. At the budget end, Tutopiya advertises from AED 33-52 and EdFlik from AED 45-65, both online and typically delivered by university students.

For in-home provision Bestimate puts one-to-one at AED 180-350, with independent home tutors quoted up to AED 500 once travel is priced in. From Emaar South that figure sits at the top of its band because the journey is long, and in this subject specifically the in-home option is largely theoretical: the number of Higher Level physics specialists willing to drive here for one lesson is small enough that the band describes a service that is rarely actually available.

The specifically physics-shaped cost error is buying at the budget end for a diagnostic problem. A student losing marks to uncertainty propagation, graph conventions and Paper 1 unit discipline needs somebody who recognises those as three separate marked faults. A university student at AED 45 an hour will re-explain the physics, which the student broadly has, and the next script will look the same. That is the most expensive hour in this market, because it costs money and a term.

Every figure here belongs to the provider named and is published by them. None is an IB Gram price: our conversation begins with a free trial lesson and a written diagnosis. Bestimate's monthly estimates give the planning frame: AED 240-600 for budget provision at one hour a week, AED 600-1,200 mid-market, and AED 1,000-2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support.

Emaar South

Villas and townhouses across Golf Links, Urbana, Expo Golf Villas, Parkside and Greenview, with no school inside the community. No resident teaching population has formed here, which is the direct cause of a near-empty near-me result for this subject.

Dubai South Residential District

Apartments and townhouses immediately north, including The Pulse. Marginally closer to the Investments Park schools, which makes no difference to physics supply and about fifteen minutes of difference to session timing.

Dubai Investments Park

The nearest school cluster, with IB continuum provision alongside British and SABIS schools. The only place in this catchment where any Diploma physics teaching capacity resides, and still a small number of people.

Al Furjan

North on the Sheikh Zayed side with its own schools, predominantly British-curriculum. Good IGCSE physics supply and very little Diploma physics supply, which is a distinction worth making when comparing what a neighbour found.

Jebel Ali

West of the cluster with long-established British and Indian-curriculum schools. IGCSE and A Level physics capacity rather than IB, and A Level experience does not transfer cleanly to Paper 3 options or the IB investigation criteria.

Discovery Gardens

High-density apartments to the north with schools nearby. Larger general tutoring market, which is why families here report finding somebody easily and why that report does not translate to Diploma physics.

Green Community

Low-rise housing inside Dubai Investments Park, minutes from the school cluster. The nearest thing in this catchment to a local physics market, and still thin enough that Higher Level requests go unfilled locally.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Ask the department which Paper 3 option is taught

Before looking for anybody. It is the detail that determines whether a match is genuine or nominal, and it should come back in writing. A family enquiring about Higher Level physics without it will get a slower and less accurate answer from any provider, including us.

  2. 02

Name the level and the weak component

Higher or Standard, and which paper or component is losing marks. Paper 1 and Paper 2 reward opposite habits, and the investigation is a third thing again. A request that says only physics produces a diagnostic session that then has to be re-aimed, which in this subject costs a scarce slot.

  3. 03

Send a marked Paper 2 script

Paper 2 shows whether losses are conceptual, structural, unit-related or uncertainty-related, and those four are indistinguishable from a grade. An unfinished paper is a pacing diagnosis on its own. Without a script, the first session produces one from a timed section.

  4. 04

Use the six questions on the free trial

Which Paper 3 option, how many method marks on Paper 1, what the analysis criterion requires, how to find uncertainty in a gradient, what in the data booklet goes unused, and what session one would set. They cost nothing, they work on us, and they filter out most of the risk.

  5. 05

Accept the honest smaller offer when the wait is long

Uncertainty and graph technique, Paper 3 data analysis and investigation supervision are all option-independent and available sooner. They are a genuine improvement rather than a holding pattern, and they pay into three components at once while a full match is arranged.

  6. 06

Book early, and earlier in this subject than any other

A September request for Higher Level physics is filled on different terms from a February one, because the small number of people who can do the work are allocated by then. For a Year 13 student, asking in the summer beforehand is the single most effective step available.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The scarcity is stated, with the arithmetic shown

Four cuts narrow the pool before geography is considered: Diploma experience, Higher Level, the Paper 3 option, and a matching slot. A near-me search adds a fifth, willingness to drive to the southern edge of the emirate, which removes nearly everyone left. We publish the funnel rather than a reassurance.

Six questions you can use on us

Which Paper 3 option, method marks on Paper 1, what the analysis criterion requires, uncertainty in a gradient, the data booklet, and what session one sets. Each has a short right answer. A page that hands a parent the test it will be judged by is making a different kind of claim.

The option is asked for before matching, not after

Paper 3's option is examined taught content and not interchangeable. We ask which one the school teaches as the first question, because the alternative is a match that looks right on paper and fails in the third session. Providers who say all options are covered should be asked which one, and to how many cohorts.

Availability disclosed, including the long waits

Standard Level matches in a few days; Higher Level with a named option can take a week or considerably more. Where nobody is free we give a date rather than seating a general science tutor opposite a Higher Level candidate. No competitor page in this market publishes a coverage limit at all.

Option-independent work offered as a real smaller promise

Uncertainty and graph technique, Paper 3 data analysis and investigation supervision all transfer across options, pay into three components, and are available sooner. Describing that accurately is more useful to a family than overstating what a full match can be arranged by Friday.

No examiner claims, no regulator claims, no UAE centre

IB Gram does not describe its tutors as IB examiners, holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, MoE or IB approval, accreditation or partnership, and operates no office or centre in the UAE. The MoHRE private tuition work permit, free for two years, is the one credential a parent can actually verify.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Emaar South: your questions answered

Is there anyone near Emaar South who really knows IB Physics?+

Very few, honestly. The pool narrows four times before geography enters: teachers who have taught the IB Diploma rather than A Level or AP, then those who have taught Higher Level, then those who have taught your school's Paper 3 option, then those with a slot matching a late Emaar South evening. A near-me search adds a fifth cut, willingness to drive twenty-five to forty-five minutes each way for one lesson, and that removes nearly everyone remaining. Online delivery removes only the fifth cut.

Why does the Paper 3 option matter so much when choosing a physics tutor?+

Because it is examined taught content chosen by the school, and it is not interchangeable. A tutor who has taught one option cannot teach another they have never delivered any better than they could teach it from the textbook in a week. Ask your department which option is taught, in writing, before looking for anybody. If a provider says all options are covered, ask which one this particular tutor has taught and to how many cohorts, because the answer is short and checkable.

What questions reveal whether a tutor has actually taught the course?+

Six, each with a short right answer. Which Paper 3 option have you taught. How many method marks are available on Paper 1, where the answer is none. What does the investigation's analysis criterion require beyond correct processing, where the answer is uncertainties. How do you find the uncertainty in a gradient, where the answer involves maximum and minimum gradient lines. What in the data booklet do students most often fail to use. And what would you set in the first session, where a component beats a topic.

What does a non-specialist typically get wrong in IB Physics?+

They teach correct physics towards the wrong target. Three errors recur: treating Paper 1 and Paper 2 as one revision task when Paper 1 awards no method marks and Paper 2 does; treating uncertainty as laboratory housekeeping when it is examined in Paper 2, Paper 3 and the investigation's analysis criterion; and treating graph work as presentation when axis labels, scales, lines of best fit and gradient triangles each earn marks independently of the physics. The script comes back unchanged, which is what makes it expensive.

Can a tutor help without knowing our Paper 3 option?+

With a real and limited part of the course, yes. Paper 3's data-analysis half is option-independent and tests graph work, linearisation, uncertainty in a gradient and interpretation of processed data, all of which transfer. So does Paper 2 answer structure, Paper 1 unit discipline, and the whole of the scientific investigation, whose criteria are shared across the sciences. What they cannot do is teach option questions on content they have never delivered, and a provider who blurs that distinction is worth declining.

What happens if no Higher Level physics specialist is free?+

We say so and give a date rather than making a substitution. Standard Level usually matches within a few days, Higher Level core within about a week, and Higher Level with a named option can take a week or considerably longer depending on the option. Meanwhile we offer the option-independent work that is available immediately: uncertainty and graph technique, Paper 3 data analysis, or investigation supervision. That is a smaller promise than a term of Higher Level teaching and it is one we can actually keep.

Why is physics harder to staff than other subjects everywhere?+

Physics graduates have a wide range of employment open to them, and school teaching competes for them against engineering, software, finance and research, so specialist shortage is a documented feature of the profession rather than a local quirk. Within the IB it narrows further: most IB schools run fewer physics classes than biology classes, Higher Level cohorts are smaller again, and because the Paper 3 option is a school-level choice, whatever experience exists fragments across options rather than accumulating.

Does IB Gram send a physics tutor to Emaar South homes?+

No. Home visits are a service IB Gram runs in India only and no tutor is sent to any UAE address. Students here are taught live one-to-one over video on Gulf Standard Time, with the marked script, the markband and the data booklet on a shared screen and graphs drawn on a shared surface that is saved. In this subject the in-home alternative is largely theoretical anyway: the number of Higher Level physics specialists willing to drive this far south for one lesson is very small.

Can I verify that a physics tutor is licensed in the UAE?+

Yes, and it is the one credential that is genuinely checkable. Individuals providing private lessons need the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years and processed through MoHRE's app, website or e-services with a two working-day completion time. A tutor can show it, and since it costs nothing there is no reason not to hold one. It is a legal licence, not evidence that anybody has taught physics.

Should I look for a tutor who is an IB examiner?+

Be cautious, because it is the claim least open to verification and the one most often made. Unless a provider can evidence an individual's current examiner appointment, a parent cannot check it, and using examiner status to imply access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content would be a false suggestion regardless. IB Gram does not describe its tutors as examiners. The checkable version of the same reassurance is narrow experience questions: which option, to how many cohorts, and what session one would set.

Is Standard Level physics easier to find help with here?+

Considerably, and that is worth knowing before a family concludes the market is empty. Standard Level has no Paper 3 and therefore no option cut, so the pool is larger and a match usually takes a few days. Middle Years science and IGCSE physics are better covered still, because far more teachers have delivered them. The scarcity described on this page is specific to the Diploma and particularly to Higher Level with a named option, and a neighbour's easy experience at IGCSE does not predict yours.

When should an Emaar South family book physics support?+

Earlier than for any other subject, and the summer before Year 13 is the ideal point. A September request for Higher Level physics with a named option is filled on different terms from a February one, because the small number of people who can do the work are allocated by then. Asking early costs nothing and it is the single most effective step available. For a family already in the spring of Year 13, the option-independent blocks are the realistic route rather than a full term.

What is the fastest mark gain in IB Physics?+

Uncertainty and graph technique, for most students who understand the concepts and keep underscoring. Uncertainty is examined in Paper 2, in Paper 3 and explicitly in the investigation's analysis criterion, while graph marks for axis labels, scales, lines of best fit and gradient triangles are awarded independently of the physics. Four to six sessions makes both fluent and pays into three components at once. It is also option-independent, which means it is available when a full specialist match is not.

Does A Level physics experience transfer to the IB Diploma?+

Partly, and not where it matters most. The underlying physics is the same, so an A Level teacher can explain content reliably. What does not transfer is the assessment architecture: the IB's investigation criteria with their specific requirement for processing that includes uncertainties, the Paper 3 option structure, and the markband style of Paper 2. A tutor from an A Level background who has not taught the Diploma will teach well and aim at the wrong target, which is the characteristic failure described throughout this page.

Why should the first session read a script rather than teach?+

Because in physics the four most common losses look identical from a grade. Conceptual gaps, answer-structure failures, unit and prefix errors, and uncertainty omissions all produce the same number and need completely different work. A marked Paper 2 script separates them in minutes. Teaching in the first hour feels more productive and makes every subsequent session less accurate, which in a subject where a specialist slot is scarce is a waste a family can ill afford.

What does a physics specialist cost compared with a general tutor?+

Published figures put IB, IGCSE and A Level specialists at AED 200-450 or more an hour on Bestimate's 2026 Dubai table, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200, TutorChase at AED 270 and BartyED at AED 650 for premium named tutors. Budget online platforms advertise from AED 33-65. In physics the cheap hour is frequently the expensive one, because a non-specialist re-explains content the student already has while the actual marked faults go unnamed. These are market bands, not IB Gram prices.
