IB Physics Tutor in Dubai Media City

An IB physics tutor in Dubai Media City is usually wanted for one of three reasons: the data-analysis questions are bleeding marks, the Internal Assessment investigation has stalled, or the mathematics underneath the physics is slower than the course assumes. All three are diagnosable and all three are fixable. This page sets out the assessment shape, the specific places marks vanish, and the evening slot a Diploma week in Al Sufouh can realistically hold.

  • Matched by level, with Higher Level treated as a separate specification
  • Uncertainty and graph technique taught as examinable skills
  • Investigation coached against the published criteria, never written for

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Media City

Why physics requests from this corridor arrive late and look the same

Dubai Media City is a free zone of offices and studios in Al Sufouh, between Sheikh Zayed Road and the sea, with Dubai Internet City inland and Dubai Knowledge Park along the tram line. It holds residential towers and no school. Secondary students here travel out to GEMS Wellington International School next door, into the Al Barsha cluster, or to the IB schools in Emirates Hills and the villa belt. They get home in the late afternoon, and physics homework is usually the last thing attempted.

Physics requests reach us later in the year than mathematics requests, and they arrive in a recognisable shape. A student who was comfortable in MYP or IGCSE science finds DP1 physics manageable until the first data-analysis question, then until the first uncertainty calculation, then until the Internal Assessment. By the DP1 spring the pattern is set: the content is understood, the marks are not arriving, and nobody can say precisely why.

The reason is that IB physics is assessed on three things at once, and only one of them is physics. The second is quantitative handling: uncertainties, gradients, units, significant figures, linearising a relationship. The third is written reasoning: explanation questions where the physics is correct and the chain of because-therefore is missing from the page. Students revise the first and lose marks on the second and third, which is why more content revision does not help.

The Internal Assessment adds a fourth demand. A single scientific investigation, marked out of 24 and moderated externally, in which the student designs the work, collects data, processes it with proper uncertainty treatment and evaluates the method. It is a research skill rather than a physics skill, and the commonest failure has nothing to do with physics: the research question is too broad to produce a usable dataset, which is discovered in week six.

That is the diagnosis this page is built around. Pin down which of the four demands is failing and the remedy is short and specific. Guess, and you buy a term of general physics teaching that the student already had at school. A tutor who cannot tell you which of the four is the problem after one marked paper is not going to find it in ten weeks.

On delivery: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, usually between 4.30pm and 9pm. Physics travels well over a screen because the work is a shared graph, a worked numerical solution and an annotated past-paper answer, and because the quantitative habits that need fixing are visible the moment the student writes anything.

At a glance

  • Media City has no school; students travel to Al Sufouh, Al Barsha or the villa belt
  • IB physics is assessed on content, quantitative handling and written reasoning at once
  • Paper 1 contains both multiple choice and data analysis
  • The Internal Assessment is a single investigation marked out of 24 and moderated externally
  • Most physics marks are lost in uncertainty treatment and unstated reasoning
  • Lessons run over live video in Gulf Standard Time, with no travel in the price
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics appears in a different form in each programme this corridor's schools run, and the step between them is where most requests originate.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Physics

Offered at Higher and Standard Level, assessed by written papers plus a single internally assessed investigation marked out of 24 and moderated externally. A data booklet is provided in the examination, which changes what revision should consist of: not memorising equations, but knowing which of the provided ones applies and what each symbol means in the situation described.

UAE IB schools sit the May session, with November as the second sitting used mainly for retakes. Specific IB session and results dates are not published here, because ibo.org blocks automated checking and no date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself; the school's IB coordinator is the authority on them. Around Media City, Diploma physics runs at GEMS Wellington International School and Dubai American Academy among others.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1 to MYP 5

MYP Sciences

Marked against four criteria out of eight, with criterion B asking for a method a stranger could repeat and criterion C for the processing and evaluation of the student's own data. Criterion C is the bridge to Diploma physics, and students who never mastered it in MYP 5 meet the same demand again in DP1 with higher stakes attached.

Dubai complicates the picture because some IB schools run the MYP for all five years and others switch to IGCSE at 14. A student arriving in DP1 from MYP 5 sciences usually has better evaluation habits and weaker quantitative speed than one arriving from IGCSE Physics, and the two need opposite first sessions.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Physics as the other feeder

Cambridge 0625 or Pearson Edexcel 4PH1, both externally examined. Students arrive in DP1 with solid content recall and no experience of formal uncertainty treatment, because that is not what IGCSE physics examines. The gap is narrow and specific, and a short block in the summer before DP1 closes it almost entirely.

Plenty of students in the Media City towers sit IGCSE physics and then move into the Diploma at a different school, which is exactly the transition that produces a confused DP1 autumn. Cambridge runs June and November series for UAE candidates; Pearson runs May/June and November, with its November 2026 timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026.

ALTAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

A Level Physics as the alternative

The route most British-school students in this corridor take instead: narrower, deeper, with practical endorsement rather than a single assessed investigation, and no requirement to carry five other subjects. Families comparing them usually ask which is harder, when the better question is which assessment style suits the student.

A student who writes well and works steadily across many commitments tends to do better in Diploma physics; a student who wants depth in three subjects and dislikes extended writing tends to do better at A Level. Both routes exist within a short bus ride of Media City, so the decision is a real one rather than a theoretical comparison.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics requests from this corridor concentrate in a small number of places. These are the topic areas and components, with what each is examined on and where marks disappear.

Mechanics and motion

HL and SL

Kinematics, forces, momentum, work and energy. Students handle numerical questions well and lose marks on explanation: describing a motion graph without naming the quantity the gradient represents, or asserting that momentum is conserved without stating the condition. The repair is written reasoning rather than more problems.

Thermal physics

HL and SL

Specific heat capacity, latent heat, gas laws and the kinetic model. Marks go missing in the algebraic rearrangement under time pressure and in the explanation questions where the molecular account has to be given in order. Students who describe temperature as heat lose marks repeatedly on the same misuse.

Waves and oscillations

HL and SL; HL extends to more demanding treatment

Wave properties, superposition, standing waves, diffraction and interference. The standing-wave questions and path-difference arguments are reliable mark-losers because students draw the diagram and omit the reasoning that connects it to the numerical answer. Diagram plus sentence is the habit worth drilling.

Electricity and circuits

HL and SL

Current, potential difference, resistance, internal resistance and circuit analysis. This is the most requested topic from this corridor at both levels. Students who can calculate confidently still lose marks on potential-divider reasoning and on explaining what happens to a reading when a component changes, which is a sequencing problem.

Fields: gravitational, electric and magnetic

HL goes considerably further

Field strength and potential, orbital motion, electromagnetic induction. At Higher Level this is where students either consolidate or quietly fall behind, because the mathematics is denser and the conceptual distinction between field and potential is easy to blur. Weekly work through DP1 pays for itself here.

Atomic, nuclear and particle physics

HL and SL

Decay, binding energy, mass defect and the standard model at Higher Level. Mark losses are mostly arithmetic with unit prefixes and powers, plus failing to state what a figure means physically. The content is well liked and the marks still leak, which tells you the problem is quantitative handling.

Energy production

HL and SL

Energy sources, efficiency, Sankey diagrams and the physics of generation. Questions here are frequently part-qualitative, and students write general environmental commentary where the mark scheme wants a specific physical mechanism and a number. It is one of the easiest places to recover marks with a short, targeted session.

Quantum and nuclear physics at Higher Level

HL only

Photoelectric effect, wave-particle duality, tunnelling and nuclear models. These topics arrive late in DP2 when revision has started, and are often half-learned as a consequence. Treating them deliberately in the autumn rather than the spring is a scheduling decision that changes the outcome.

Uncertainties and data analysis

HL and SL; examined in Paper 1 and the investigation

Absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainty, propagation, error bars, gradient uncertainty from a graph, and the significant figures a result can honestly carry. This is the largest single source of avoidable loss in IB physics and the least deliberately taught. It is mechanical and it responds very quickly.

Graph work and linearisation

HL and SL

Choosing axes so a relationship becomes linear, calculating a gradient with units, extracting a constant from the intercept. Students plot correctly and then quote a gradient without units or without showing the triangle, which the mark scheme does not forgive. A checklist fixes most of it.

The Internal Assessment investigation

HL and SL, marked out of 24

One scientific investigation designed, conducted, processed and evaluated by the student, moderated externally. The usual failure is a research question too broad to produce a usable dataset, chosen early and discovered late. A tutor may coach the method and comment on the student's own drafts, and may not write any part of it.

The mathematics underneath

Both levels; worse at HL

Rearranging multi-term expressions, logarithms, trigonometry and, at Higher Level, calculus-adjacent reasoning. A student whose algebra is slow will appear to be bad at physics, because every physics question becomes an algebra question with a deadline. Diagnosing this correctly saves a term of misdirected effort.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns of physics support that work for this corridor, all delivered one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

Quantitative repair block

Four to six sessions spent entirely on uncertainties, graph work, linearisation and algebraic speed, with no new content at all. This is the highest-yield block in IB physics and the one almost nobody asks for, because it does not look like physics teaching. It typically changes a Paper 1 data-analysis score within a month.

  • Absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainty drilled to automatic
  • Gradient with units, triangle shown, every time
  • Linearisation practised on unfamiliar relationships
  • Significant figures treated as a rule rather than a preference

Weekly level-matched session

One hour a week at the student's stated level, working on the school's current topic and the next assessed piece. Higher Level is treated as a separate specification from Standard, because the written reasoning demand and the field and quantum content are genuinely different jobs rather than more of the same.

  • Fixed weekly hour, usually 5pm to 8.30pm Gulf Standard Time
  • Work from the school's own scheme plus past-paper questions
  • Explanation questions written out and marked, not discussed
  • Recorded, so a quantitative session can be replayed before a test

Investigation coaching

A short block across the Internal Assessment cycle: narrowing the research question to something that produces a usable dataset, planning the uncertainty treatment before data collection, and criterion-level feedback on the student's own drafts. Nothing is written, redrafted or supplied by the tutor at any stage.

  • Research question narrowed in the first session, which is where the grade is won
  • Uncertainty plan agreed before the data is collected, not after
  • Evaluation taught as a structure rather than as a paragraph to write
  • The school supervisor remains the authority on the process

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Media City

01

What an IB physics tutor search from Media City usually means

  • Four usual causes: uncertainties, written reasoning, the investigation, algebraic speed
  • One marked paper identifies which, in about twenty minutes
  • Algebraic slowness is the most frequently misdiagnosed cause
  • Higher Level is a separate specification, not Standard Level with additions

An IB physics tutor in Dubai Media City means, in practice, a physics specialist at a stated level, teaching one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, for a student who is almost always in DP1 or DP2 at a school elsewhere in the city. Media City has no school inside it; the nearest gates are in Al Sufouh and the Al Barsha cluster, and the nearest tuition centres are inland.

The request usually arrives with a vague description and a specific cause. The description is that physics is hard. The cause, nine times out of ten, is one of four things: uncertainty and graph handling, written reasoning in explanation questions, a stalled Internal Assessment, or algebraic slowness masquerading as conceptual weakness. Those four need different first sessions, and buying generic physics teaching gives the student more of what school already provides.

Pinning down which one it is takes a single marked paper and about twenty minutes. In uncertainty questions the loss is visible immediately. In explanation questions it looks like a correct statement with no because. A stalled Internal Assessment announces itself. Algebraic slowness shows as abandoned multi-step questions and arithmetic errors with unit prefixes, and it is the one most often misdiagnosed as a physics problem.

Once the diagnosis exists, where the tutor lives is irrelevant. Level matters, because Higher Level physics is not Standard Level with extra topics: the field and quantum content and the depth of written reasoning make it a different specification. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Lessons are a shared screen with a graph, a worked numerical solution and an annotated answer, which is what physics teaching looks like anyway.

02

The assessment shape, and why the data booklet changes revision

IB physics is assessed by written papers plus a single internally assessed investigation. Paper 1 contains two distinct demands, multiple choice and data analysis, which students prepare for as if they were one thing. Paper 2 is extended response, where the marks sit in reasoning as much as in numbers. A data booklet is provided in the examination.

That last point reshapes what revision should be. If the equations are supplied, memorising them is close to worthless, and the skill being examined is selection: knowing which of the provided relationships applies to the situation described, what each symbol denotes in that context, and which quantity the question has actually given you. Students who revise by writing out equations are practising the one thing the examination has removed.

The data-analysis part of Paper 1 is where the most marks are available to a well-prepared student and the most are lost by an unprepared one. It asks for uncertainty handling, gradient extraction, significant figures and interpretation, all of which are mechanical and all of which reward practice over understanding. Most students have attempted far fewer data-analysis questions than multiple-choice ones, simply because they are less comfortable, which compounds the problem.

Exact weightings and durations are set by the current subject guide and can change between versions, so confirm the detail with your child's school and the official documentation. The shape in the table below is what matters for planning a term: where the marks are, what each component actually tests, and how the hours should therefore be divided.

03

Uncertainties: the quiet, expensive topic

  • Uncertainty is examined in Paper 1 data analysis and throughout the investigation
  • The full skill list is short and becomes reliable in four to six sessions
  • Marks are awarded for procedure, so they are earned every time, not sometimes
  • Graph checklist: axes with units, triangle shown, gradient with units, honest significant figures

If one section of this page is worth acting on, it is this one. Uncertainty treatment is the largest single source of avoidable marks in IB physics, it is assessed in Paper 1 and again in the investigation, and it is almost never taught deliberately because it sits in nobody's topic list. Schools cover it when a practical requires it and then move on.

The specific skills are finite: reading an instrument's resolution and converting it to an absolute uncertainty, converting between absolute, fractional and percentage forms, propagating through addition, multiplication and powers, drawing error bars, extracting a maximum and minimum gradient, and knowing how many significant figures a result can honestly carry. That is a short list. A student can become reliable at all of it in four to six focused sessions.

The reason it pays so well is that uncertainty marks are awarded for procedure rather than insight. There is no cleverness involved. A student who knows the procedure gets the marks every time the question appears, and it appears in every data-analysis section and throughout the investigation. Compare that with learning an extra topic, which may or may not be examined in the form the student practised.

The same logic applies to graph work. A gradient quoted without units scores less than one with them; a gradient quoted without the triangle shown invites a method mark to be withheld; axes without units lose marks before any physics happens. These are checklist items. A student who runs the checklist every time stops losing those marks permanently, which is a much better return than another hour on fields.

04

Topic by topic: where physics marks actually go

Students name topics when asked what is hard, and the names are usually right about discomfort and wrong about where the marks went. Marked papers show a consistent split: numerical questions are answered reasonably and explanation questions are answered incompletely, with the physics correct and the reasoning chain absent.

The commonest version is a student who writes a true statement instead of an argument. Asked to explain why a reading falls, they state that resistance increases. The mark scheme wants the sequence: resistance increases, so current falls, so the potential difference across the component falls, so the reading falls. Each link is a mark. Students who have never had an explanation answer marked in front of them do not know the links are separately credited.

The table sets out the topics this corridor asks for most, with the specific loss in each. Notice how few of the entries are about not knowing the physics. That is the point: by DP2 most students know more physics than their marks suggest, and the gap is in how the knowledge reaches the page. This is also why a term of tutoring can move a grade without covering new content.

Higher Level students have one extra exposure. The field and quantum material arrives late, often in the DP2 autumn when the Extended Essay and other Internal Assessments are also live, and it is frequently half-learned as a result. Scheduling that content deliberately earlier in the year is a planning decision that changes the outcome more than any amount of spring revision.

The investigation: 24 marks, one dataset, and a line nobody should cross

The Internal Assessment in IB physics is a single scientific investigation, designed and carried out by the student, marked out of 24 and moderated externally. It is the most controllable component of the course and the one students handle least well, and the reason is almost never physics.

Weak investigations fail at the research question. A student picks something broad and interesting, spends weeks on apparatus, and discovers in the processing stage that the data cannot answer the question asked. A narrow question with a clean independent variable, a measurable dependent variable and a sensible range produces a better mark than an ambitious question answered partially, every single time. The first session of investigation coaching is therefore usually spent replacing the question, and that is where the grade is won.

The second avoidable failure is planning the uncertainty treatment after the data is collected. If a student decides how they will propagate uncertainties before measuring anything, they measure the right things, repeat enough trials, and record instrument resolutions as they go. If they decide afterwards, half the information needed is missing and cannot be recovered without redoing the practical. This is a ten-minute conversation that saves a fortnight.

The boundary is firm and worth stating. A tutor may teach research design, uncertainty planning, data processing, graphing conventions and what each criterion rewards, and may read the student's own draft and say precisely where it fails against a descriptor. A tutor may not write, redraft or restructure any part of the investigation, and may not supply a model to adapt. One provider in this market sells completed Internal Assessments outright; for the student, that is an academic honesty finding rather than a shortcut, and the school supervisor remains the authority on the process throughout.

06

Higher Level against Standard Level, and when to change

  • Higher Level adds content and raises the written reasoning demand across every paper
  • Algebraic fluency, not physics interest, is the best predictor of coping at Higher Level
  • A move to Standard Level is simple early in DP1 and hard later
  • Check the specific programme requirement before changing level

Higher Level physics is not Standard Level with extra chapters. It carries additional content, including the heavier field and quantum material, and it raises the written reasoning demand across the whole paper. A student comfortable at Standard Level can be genuinely stuck at Higher Level for reasons that have nothing to do with effort.

The diagnostic question is about mathematics rather than physics. A student whose algebra is fluent, who can rearrange a three-term expression quickly and handle logarithms without hesitation, can usually carry Higher Level physics. A student whose algebra is slow will find that every physics question becomes an algebra question with a clock attached, and that the time cost appears in five other subjects as well.

Moving from Higher to Standard Level is usually administratively straightforward early in DP1 and progressively harder after that. It is also frequently the right decision, and it is under-made because it feels like a retreat. A student carrying three Higher Levels, an Extended Essay and a Diploma core is running a genuinely heavy week, and a physics Higher Level that consumes two evenings is being paid for by the other five subjects.

Check the university requirement before changing anything. Some engineering and physics programmes specify Higher Level physics; many others accept Standard Level alongside Higher Level mathematics. Requirements vary by institution, by country and by intake year, including at the Dubai campuses of overseas universities, so read the individual programme page rather than relying on a general rule or on a tutoring website, including this one.

07

Fitting physics into the week after the Al Barsha bus

  • Physics homework is the first thing dropped when a Diploma week overruns
  • A six to eight o'clock slot is the realistic one from the Media City towers
  • One tutored hour, one problem set alone, one timed data-analysis section
  • Mark the mock properly; it is the most useful session in the year

Physics is the subject most often squeezed out of a Diploma week, because its homework is finite and skippable in a way that essay drafting is not. A student who runs short of time does the English draft and leaves the physics problem set, and by the time that pattern is visible in a report it has been running for a term.

The afternoon in this corridor sets the constraint. Most schools finish in the middle of the afternoon, the roads around the Al Barsha and villa belt gates stall for roughly an hour afterwards, and a bus serving several communities adds collection stops. A student from a Media City tower is usually home between four and five, sometimes later with an activity. The sensible physics slot in this corridor is between six and eight, after food and a short burst of school homework.

The weekly shape that works is one tutored hour, one problem set attempted alone, and one past-paper data-analysis section done to time. The independent work matters more in physics than in most subjects, because the skills being built are procedural and need repetition the student performs rather than watches. A session where the tutor solves and the student nods produces very little.

Two scheduling notes specific to physics. Sessions shift later during Ramadan rather than pausing, since a four-week gap in a procedural subject undoes more than it does in a content subject. And the week after a mock is the single most valuable session of the year: marking the paper properly against the scheme, question by question, is where the next eight weeks of work comes from, and most students never do it.

08

What a physics specialist costs, and where a generalist is enough

Published rates in Dubai give a clear structure. Budget online tutoring runs from AED 45 to AED 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52. Qualified subject tutors working online are published from AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors at IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. IB and IGCSE specialists run AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270, and premium named tutoring reaches AED 500 to AED 650 and beyond, with BartyED at AED 650.

For physics the tier that matters depends on the diagnosis rather than on the level. A student whose problem is uncertainty procedure and graph checklists can be served well by a competent science tutor at the qualified band, because the material is mechanical and does not require a Higher Level physics specialist. A student whose problem is written reasoning in Higher Level field questions, or a stalled investigation heading for moderation, needs the specialist band and will waste money below it.

In-home visits are published between AED 180 and AED 500 an hour with travel included, and Bestimate's band for in-home work is AED 180 to AED 350. Monthly packages in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. For a procedural subject, eight shorter contacts beat four long ones: the skills need frequent repetition, not extended exposure. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly hour are AED 240 to AED 600 budget, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year work.

These are other providers' published figures, not IB Gram prices. The verifiable questions before you pay anything are the rate, whether it is per hour or per lesson, whether travel is inside the number, the cancellation terms and the remedy if the match is wrong. Three of the six strongest-ranking Dubai tutoring pages publish no rate at all, which is why a sourced comparison belongs here rather than in a brochure.

The communities this page serves

Physics requests reach us from the ring of residential communities around Media City. Each has a different school mix and a different journey home, and both affect how a physics week is built.

Dubai Media City and Al Sufouh

Towers inside a working district, nearest gates at GEMS Wellington International School and Dubai College. Diploma physics requests here are split between the two levels, and the afternoon journey pushes most bookings past six o'clock.

Dubai Internet City

Sharing the Red Line Metro station with a smaller residential population. The recurring request from here is Higher Level physics in DP1, usually from students who chose three Higher Levels and are discovering what that costs across a week.

Dubai Knowledge Park

University and training campuses along the tram line, with residential towers and an older student profile. Physics questions from here often concern university prerequisites and whether Higher Level is required, rather than the current grade.

Dubai Marina and JBR

The largest population within range and the slowest evening roads. Later slots dominate and recorded lessons matter, because the quantitative sessions are the ones students most often want to replay before a test.

The Greens, The Views and Barsha Heights

Dense apartment communities with short runs into Al Barsha and The Greens. Earlier slots are feasible, which makes a twice-weekly pattern easier to sustain in the DP2 spring when physics needs it most.

Emirates Hills, The Meadows and The Springs

The villa belt feeding Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills and Emirates International School Meadows, both running the Diploma. Most of the corridor's Higher Level physics requests come from this cluster.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

The deepest school cluster within a short drive, including full IB continuum schools. Requests include MYP Sciences criterion C work as well as Diploma physics, often from the same families a year apart.

Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Its own Metro station and a wide spread of school destinations. Steady demand for Standard Level physics support and for help with the Internal Assessment in the DP1 spring, which is the busiest window of the year.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send one marked physics paper

A returned paper or mock is worth more than any description, because the four usual causes are visible in it: uncertainty losses, explanation answers that stop at a true statement, abandoned multi-step questions, and arithmetic errors with unit prefixes. The diagnosis takes about twenty minutes from real evidence.

  2. 02

State the level, not just the subject

Higher Level physics is a separate specification rather than Standard Level with additions, because of the field and quantum content and the written reasoning demand. Matching without the level is how a student ends up with sound teaching pitched at the wrong paper.

  3. 03

Matched by level, with limits stated

If no suitable specialist is free in the hour you need, you are told that with the earliest realistic alternative, including when the match would be a tutor based outside the UAE teaching in Gulf Standard Time. The DP1 spring, when every investigation is live at once, is the hardest window.

  4. 04

Free trial lesson on a data-analysis question

One lesson at no cost, worked on a real data-analysis question from your child's level, which is where the diagnosis shows fastest. Afterwards you get a written note naming the largest single loss and what the first four sessions would target. Nothing is paid until you have read it.

  5. 05

Weekly hour, independent problem set, timed data section

A held hour each week, a problem set attempted alone, and one timed data-analysis section between sessions. The independent work matters more in physics than elsewhere, because the skills are procedural and need repetition the student performs rather than watches.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Diagnosis before teaching

Four causes account for almost every physics request from this corridor: uncertainty handling, written reasoning, a stalled investigation, and algebraic slowness. Each needs a different first session, and one marked paper identifies which. Buying generic physics teaching gives the student more of what school already provides.

Uncertainty treated as the examinable skill it is

It is assessed in Paper 1 data analysis and throughout the investigation, the full skill list is short, and the marks are awarded for procedure rather than insight. Four to six focused sessions make a student reliable at it permanently, which beats another hour on fields.

The investigation coached inside the rules

The research question is narrowed in session one and the uncertainty plan agreed before data collection, which is where the 24 marks are actually decided. Feedback is given on the student's own drafts only. Nothing is written, redrafted or supplied, and the school supervisor stays the authority on process.

Level matched honestly

Higher Level physics raises the reasoning demand on every paper, and algebraic fluency predicts coping better than interest in physics does. Where a move to Standard Level is the right call, we say so in DP1 while it is still simple, which costs us hours and is the correct advice.

Rate tier matched to the problem

A procedural repair does not need a specialist at AED 200 to AED 450 an hour; a stalled investigation near moderation does. Published bands are set out on this page so you can tell which you are buying, rather than paying the premium band for a checklist.

No travel premium and no false claims

Published in-home rates run AED 180 to AED 500 an hour against AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified online tutor. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai; home visits are a service we run only in India. It holds no approval, accreditation or partnership from any board or regulator and has no UAE office.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Media City: your questions answered

The physics seems understood and the marks still do not arrive. Why?+

Almost always one of four things. Uncertainty and graph handling, which is procedural and rarely taught deliberately. Explanation answers that stop at a true statement instead of giving the chain of consequences the mark scheme credits link by link. A stalled Internal Assessment eating the time that revision needs. Or algebraic slowness, which makes every physics question a race. One marked paper distinguishes them in about twenty minutes, and each needs a different first session.

Why is uncertainty work worth more attention than another topic?+

Because the marks are awarded for procedure, so a student who knows the procedure earns them every time the question appears, and it appears in every data-analysis section and throughout the investigation. The full skill list is short: instrument resolution, absolute and percentage forms, propagation through multiplication and powers, error bars, maximum and minimum gradients, honest significant figures. Four to six focused sessions makes a student reliable at all of it. Another topic may or may not be examined in the form practised.

If the data booklet is provided, what should revision actually consist of?+

Selection rather than recall. With the relationships supplied, the examined skill is knowing which one applies to the situation described, what each symbol means in that context, and which quantity the question has given you. Students who revise by writing out equations are practising the one thing the examination has removed. Better use of the same hour: past-paper questions where the first step is choosing the right relationship from the booklet and justifying the choice.

What does an explanation question in physics want that my child is not giving?+

A sequence, with each link separately credited. Asked why a reading falls, a student commonly writes that resistance increases and stops. The scheme wants resistance increases, so current falls, so the potential difference across the component falls, so the reading falls. Students who have never had an explanation answer marked in front of them do not know those links earn separate marks. Writing explanations out and having them marked, rather than discussed aloud, fixes this in two or three sessions.

How should my child choose a research question for the physics investigation?+

Narrow, with a clean independent variable, a measurable dependent variable and a sensible range. Almost every weak investigation failed at this step: a broad, interesting question was chosen early, weeks went into apparatus, and the processing stage revealed that the data cannot answer it. A narrow question answered properly outscores an ambitious one answered partially every time. If investigation coaching does one thing, it should replace the question in the first session.

When should the uncertainty plan for an investigation be decided?+

Before any data is collected, which almost nobody does. A student who knows in advance how they will propagate uncertainties measures the right quantities, takes enough repeats and records instrument resolutions as they go. A student who decides afterwards finds half the required information was never recorded and cannot be recovered without repeating the practical. It is a ten-minute conversation that routinely saves a fortnight and several marks.

Can a tutor help with the physics Internal Assessment without breaking the rules?+

Yes, within a firm boundary. A tutor may teach research design, uncertainty planning, data processing, graphing conventions and what each criterion rewards, and may read the student's own draft and name exactly where it fails against a descriptor. A tutor may not write, redraft or restructure any part of it, and may not supply a model to adapt. The school supervisor remains the authority on the process, and the most valuable legitimate help arrives before any data is collected.

Is Higher Level physics just Standard Level with more topics?+

No. It adds content, including the heavier field and quantum material, and it raises the written reasoning demand across every paper. The best predictor of coping is algebraic fluency rather than enthusiasm for physics: a student who rearranges a three-term expression quickly can usually carry it, while a student whose algebra is slow finds every physics question becomes an algebra question with a clock attached, and pays for it in five other subjects.

Is moving physics down a level a sensible call or a retreat?+

It is worth considering seriously and early, because the move is administratively simple in the first part of DP1 and much harder later. A Higher Level physics course that consumes two evenings a week is being paid for by the other five subjects and the Extended Essay. Check the specific university programme requirement first: some engineering and physics courses specify Higher Level physics, while many accept Standard Level alongside Higher Level mathematics. Read the programme page, not a general rule.

Which physics topics do students around Al Sufouh ask about most?+

Electricity and circuits by a clear margin, then waves and superposition, then thermal physics. At Higher Level, fields arrive late in the course and are frequently half-learned because they land in the DP2 autumn alongside the Extended Essay and other Internal Assessments. Scheduling that content deliberately earlier in the year changes the outcome more than spring revision does, and it is a planning decision rather than a teaching one.

What time can a physics session realistically start from a Media City tower?+

Between six and eight in the evening. Most schools in this corridor finish in the middle of the afternoon, the roads around the Al Barsha and villa belt gates stall for roughly an hour afterwards, and a bus serving several communities adds stops, so a student is typically home between four and five. Add food and a short burst of school homework and the workable window starts at six. A 4.30pm booking looks efficient and gets rescheduled.

How much independent work should go alongside a weekly physics hour?+

One problem set attempted alone and one timed data-analysis section between sessions. This matters more in physics than in most subjects because the skills being built are procedural: uncertainty propagation, graph checklists, explanation chains. They need repetition the student performs rather than watches. A session where the tutor solves and the student nods looks productive and produces very little, which is why the independent work is part of the arrangement rather than optional.

Does my child need a physics specialist or would a general science tutor do?+

It depends on the diagnosis rather than the level. A procedural repair, uncertainties and graph checklists, is served well by a competent science tutor in the published AED 150 to AED 300 band, because the material is mechanical. Written reasoning in Higher Level field questions, or an investigation close to moderation, needs the specialist band at AED 200 to AED 450 and above and will waste money below it. Matching the tier to the problem is how the budget stays sensible.

What is the most useful single session in a physics year?+

The one immediately after a mock, spent marking the paper properly against the official scheme question by question with the student present. Most students come out of a mock with a strong feeling about the paper and no idea which marks they lost or why, and the gap between those two things is the syllabus for the next eight weeks. An error log built from a marked mock is the most useful revision document a Diploma physics student can own.

Can physics really be taught well over video?+

For a motivated Diploma student, yes, and in some respects better. The work is a shared graph, a worked numerical solution and an annotated past-paper answer, and the quantitative habits that need correcting are visible the instant the student writes anything. Live annotation of a data question is at least as effective as leaning over a table. The real limit is a student who will not engage without an adult physically present, which is a genuine constraint rather than a marketing objection.

Diagnose the loss, then buy the right four sessions

If you are looking for an IB physics tutor in Dubai Media City, send one marked paper before you shortlist anybody. Four causes account for nearly every request from this corridor: uncertainty and graph handling, explanation answers that stop at a true statement, a stalled Internal Assessment, and algebraic slowness underneath the physics. Each has a different remedy and a different sensible price tier, and all four are visible in twenty minutes of marking. A free trial lesson on a real data-analysis question produces a written diagnosis before anything is paid, and lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.
