IB Chemistry Tutor in Dubai Media City

Hiring an IB chemistry tutor in Dubai Media City is a spending decision as much as an academic one, and the published rates in this city span AED 45 to AED 650 an hour. This page is written from the money: what each tier actually buys, which chemistry problems do not need the expensive end, the four places families reliably waste a term's fees, and why lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time rather than with a car in the price.

  • Published AED bands set out with the provider that published each
  • Rate tier matched to the chemistry problem, not to the level
  • Internal Assessment coached inside the academic honesty rules
  • Free trial lesson and a written diagnosis before any payment

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Media City

Start with the money, because the money is what gets wasted

Published tutoring rates in Dubai run from AED 45 an hour at the budget online end to AED 650 at the premium named end. That is a fourteen-fold spread for something described by the same two words. A family in Dubai Media City deciding how to support a Diploma chemistry student is therefore making a pricing decision with almost no price information, which is how a term's fees get spent on the wrong thing.

Most of the waste is not overpaying. It is paying the right amount for work that was never going to move the grade. The four reliable ways to waste money on IB chemistry are: buying content reteaching when the problem is examination technique, buying a premium specialist for a procedural repair, buying sessions in the final six weeks when the remaining marks live in the student's own practice time, and buying help with an Internal Assessment whose research question was doomed in week one.

Chemistry has a particular version of this. The subject rewards mechanism over recall, and almost every student who struggles is a student who has memorised reactions. They can tell you what an alkene does with bromine and cannot predict what an unfamiliar substrate will do, which is precisely what Paper 2 asks. Paying for more reactions to memorise is paying for more of the thing that is not working.

Dubai Media City sits in Al Sufouh, a free zone of offices and studios between Sheikh Zayed Road and the sea, with Dubai Internet City inland and Dubai Knowledge Park along the tram line. There are residential towers and no school inside it, so children travel out to GEMS Wellington International School, the Al Barsha cluster or the IB schools in the villa belt. The nearest tuition centres are inland, which means the local options are a short list chosen by geography rather than by chemistry.

The fee context in this city has also moved. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. For a family budgeting support, that makes tutoring the variable line rather than the fee, which is an argument for spending it deliberately.

On delivery: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, usually between 4.30pm and 9pm. That is also a cost decision. Published in-home rates carry a premium of roughly AED 30 to AED 200 an hour over qualified online rates, and for chemistry the premium buys a car journey rather than better teaching.

At a glance

  • Published Dubai rates span AED 45 to AED 650 an hour for work described identically
  • Most waste comes from buying the wrong work, not from overpaying for the right work
  • Chemistry rewards mechanism; memorising reactions is the failure mode most often paid for
  • KHDA confirmed no Dubai private school fee increase for 2026-27
  • The in-home premium buys travel, not teaching quality
  • Lessons run over live video in Gulf Standard Time, with no travel in the price
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry appears in a different form in each programme this corridor's schools run, and each form has a different cost profile for a family buying support.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Chemistry

Offered at Higher and Standard Level, assessed by written papers plus a single internally assessed investigation marked out of 24 and moderated externally. A data booklet is provided, so revision should be about selecting and applying supplied information rather than memorising it. Higher Level deepens energetics, equilibrium, acids and bases, and organic mechanisms.

UAE IB schools sit the May session, with November as the second sitting used mainly for retakes. Specific IB session and results dates are not published here, because ibo.org blocks automated checking and no date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself; the school's IB coordinator is the authority. Around Media City, Diploma chemistry runs at GEMS Wellington International School and Dubai American Academy among others.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1 to MYP 5

MYP Sciences

Marked against four criteria out of eight, with criterion B wanting a repeatable method and criterion C the processing and evaluation of the student's own data. Support at this stage is cheap and preventive: a student who masters criterion C in MYP 5 meets the same demand in the Diploma investigation with the habit already formed.

The cost argument is strongest here and nobody acts on it. A short block of MYP 5 criterion work costs a fraction of what the same skills cost to build in a DP1 spring, when they compete with five other subjects. Families buy in DP1 because that is when the grade is visible, which is understandable and more expensive.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Chemistry as the feeder

Cambridge 0620 or Pearson Edexcel 4CH1. Students arrive in DP1 with solid recall, competence at moles calculations and no experience of mechanism-level reasoning or formal uncertainty treatment, because IGCSE does not examine those. The gap is narrow, specific and cheap to close in the summer before DP1.

Many students in the Media City towers sit IGCSE chemistry and move into the Diploma at another school, which is exactly the transition that produces an expensive DP1. Cambridge runs June and November series for UAE candidates; Pearson runs May/June and November, with its November 2026 timetable running from late October to 19 November 2026.

ALTAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

A Level Chemistry as the alternative

The route most British-school students in this corridor take instead: narrower, deeper, with practical endorsement rather than a single 24-mark investigation, and no requirement to carry five other subjects. Its cost profile differs too, with heavier demand for support in the second year rather than spread across both.

For medicine and related applications, both routes are accepted widely and the requirement is usually chemistry at the higher level of whichever system. Requirements vary by university, country and intake year, including at the Dubai campuses of overseas institutions, so read the programme page rather than relying on any general rule or tutoring website.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry requests from this corridor concentrate in a handful of topics, and the cost of fixing each differs sharply. These are the places marks go and roughly what the repair takes.

Organic chemistry and mechanisms

HL and SL; HL considerably deeper

The most requested chemistry topic in this corridor and the one where money is most often misspent. Students memorise reactions and stall on unfamiliar substrates. The repair is mechanism reasoning taught from electron movement, which takes four to six sessions and then applies to every reaction the paper can invent.

Moles, stoichiometry and solution calculations

HL and SL

Multi-step calculations where the limiting reagent is not signposted and the units shift mid-question. Losses are procedural: a step skipped, a conversion missed, a result quoted to an impossible number of significant figures. Cheap to fix with drilled practice; expensive to leave, because it recurs across every topic.

Energetics and thermochemistry

HL and SL; HL adds depth

Enthalpy cycles, bond enthalpies, entropy and Gibbs energy at Higher Level. Students manage the arithmetic and lose marks on sign conventions and on explaining why a cycle works. Two or three sessions with a sign-convention discipline attached usually settles it permanently.

Equilibrium and kinetics

HL and SL; HL extends both

Le Chatelier reasoning, equilibrium constants, rate equations and mechanisms at Higher Level. Marks go missing where students state a shift without naming the reason the system responds that way, which is the same written-reasoning failure seen across the sciences rather than a chemistry gap.

Acids, bases and buffers

HL and SL; buffers and titration curves at HL

pH calculations, weak acid behaviour, buffer action and titration curve interpretation. Higher Level students lose marks reading curves without identifying the equivalence and half-equivalence points, which is a diagram-reading skill rather than chemistry and takes one session to fix.

Redox and electrochemistry

HL and SL; cells at HL

Oxidation states, half-equations, electrolysis and electrochemical cells. Half-equation balancing in acidic and basic conditions is a procedure students half-know, and it costs marks reliably. It is worth drilling rather than understanding, which is an unusual thing to say about chemistry and is true here.

Structure, bonding and periodicity

HL and SL

Atomic structure, bonding models, intermolecular forces and periodic trends. Explanation questions want a trend accounted for by a named factor in a stated order, and students supply the trend without the account. One session on explanation structure recovers marks across the whole paper.

Analytical techniques and spectroscopy

HL and SL; more at HL

Mass spectrometry, infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance interpretation, usually with the data booklet. The skill is pattern reading against supplied reference data, which is mechanical and quick to improve, and which students rarely practise because it does not feel like chemistry revision.

Uncertainties and data handling

HL and SL; examined in the papers and the investigation

Absolute and percentage uncertainty, propagation, graph gradients with units, honest significant figures. Procedural, examined repeatedly, and almost never taught deliberately. Four to six focused sessions makes a student reliable permanently, and no level specialist is needed for it.

The Internal Assessment investigation

HL and SL, marked out of 24

One scientific investigation designed, conducted, processed and evaluated by the student, moderated externally. The expensive failure is a research question too broad to yield a usable dataset, chosen in week one and discovered in week six. A tutor may coach the method and comment on the student's own drafts, and may write none of it.

The mathematics underneath chemistry

Both levels

Logarithms for pH, rearranging multi-term expressions, ratio reasoning and indices. A student whose algebra is slow looks bad at chemistry, because every calculation becomes an algebra race. This is the diagnosis most often missed, and it is also the cheapest to fix because it does not need a chemistry specialist.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families around Media City buy chemistry support, with the cost logic of each stated plainly. All run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

The cheap preventive block

Four to six sessions in DP1 on mechanism reasoning and uncertainty procedure, bought before any grade looks worrying. It is the lowest-cost intervention with the highest return in chemistry, and almost nobody buys it, because nothing has gone wrong yet. Families who do spend less in total across the two years.

  • Electron-movement reasoning instead of reaction memorisation
  • Uncertainty and significant-figure procedure drilled to automatic
  • No level specialist needed, so the qualified band is sufficient
  • Typically four to six sessions and then stop

The weekly level-matched hour

One hour a week at the student's stated level through the course, working on the school's current topic and the next assessed piece. The steadiest value in chemistry, because the subject builds and a gap left in energetics reappears in equilibrium two months later at a higher price.

  • Fixed weekly hour, usually 5pm to 8.30pm Gulf Standard Time
  • Work from the school's own scheme plus past-paper questions
  • Explanation answers written out and marked, not discussed
  • Recorded, so a mechanism session can be replayed before a test

The investigation rescue

Three to five sessions when an Internal Assessment is stalled, which is the most expensive chemistry help to buy and sometimes the most necessary. The cost is driven by timing: in the DP1 spring every specialist is booked, so the same help costs more and is harder to get than it would have been two months earlier.

  • Research question narrowed or replaced in the first session
  • Uncertainty plan agreed before further data collection
  • Criterion-level feedback on the student's own drafts only
  • The school supervisor stays the authority on the process

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Media City

01

What each AED tier actually buys for a chemistry student

Published rates in Dubai divide into recognisable tiers, and the useful question is not which is best but which is sufficient for the problem in front of you. Budget online tutoring runs from AED 45 to AED 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52. Qualified subject tutors online are published from AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors at IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Specialists run AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's specialist band at AED 200 to AED 450 or more. Premium named or examiner-led tutoring reaches AED 500 to AED 650 and beyond, with BartyED at AED 650.

Matched to chemistry problems, those tiers sort cleanly. Uncertainty procedure, significant figures, half-equation balancing and spectroscopy pattern reading are mechanical and well served at the qualified band, because no level-specific judgement is involved. Organic mechanism reasoning, Higher Level equilibrium and explanation-answer technique need someone who has marked against the real scheme, which is the specialist band. An investigation close to moderation needs the specialist band and needs it immediately.

The premium band is the one worth scrutinising. At AED 500 to AED 650 an hour, the question to ask is what it does that AED 270 does not. For a student whose problem is memorising instead of reasoning, the answer is usually nothing: the same four to six mechanism sessions work at a third of the price. The genuine case for the premium band is narrow, typically a Higher Level student aiming at a hard threshold who needs examination judgement rather than teaching.

None of these are IB Gram prices. They are what other providers publish, quoted so you can compare before anyone quotes you anything. It is worth noting that three of the six strongest-ranking Dubai tutoring pages publish no rate at all and two of those that do quote in dollars, which means a parent comparing options is usually comparing nothing.

02

The four ways families here waste a term of chemistry fees

  • Content reteaching when the loss is explanation structure
  • Specialist rates for mechanical, procedural repairs
  • Extra hours in the final six weeks, taken from the student's own practice time
  • Rescuing an investigation whose question should have been replaced in the autumn

The first is buying content when the problem is technique. A student who understands bonding and loses marks on explanation structure does not need bonding retaught. They need explanation answers written out and marked until the shape is automatic. Content reteaching feels productive, is pleasant to sit through, and changes almost nothing, which is why it is the most commonly sold chemistry tutoring in any market.

The second is paying the specialist or premium band for a procedural repair. Uncertainty handling, significant figures, half-equation balancing and reading a mass spectrum against the data booklet are mechanical skills. They are examined repeatedly and they improve with drilled practice from any competent tutor. Paying AED 450 an hour for that work is paying a specialist to do something a qualified tutor does equally well.

The third is buying hours in the last six weeks. At that point most of the remaining marks live in the student's own practice: papers attempted alone, mistakes logged, procedures repeated. Four tutored hours a week in May consumes the time where those marks actually are, and families buy it because it feels like doing something. Two hours a week plus protected independent practice beats four tutored hours, and costs half as much.

The fourth is the most expensive and the least visible: paying to rescue an Internal Assessment whose research question was unworkable from the start. Three to five sessions in the DP1 spring to salvage a broad question costs more than the single session in the autumn that would have replaced it, and the ceiling on the salvaged version is lower. If you buy one thing early in chemistry, buy the conversation about the research question.

03

Organic mechanisms: the cheapest high-yield work in the subject

  • Memorised reactions fail on unfamiliar substrates, which Paper 2 supplies deliberately
  • Electron-movement reasoning takes four to six sessions and then generalises
  • This is one of the few places the specialist band is clearly worth the premium
  • Test it in the trial lesson: ask for one unfamiliar mechanism, reasoned aloud

Organic chemistry is the most requested chemistry topic from this corridor and the clearest illustration of the cost argument. Students arrive having memorised reactions: alkene plus bromine, alcohol plus oxidising agent, and so on. That strategy works on recall questions and fails completely when Paper 2 presents an unfamiliar substrate, which it is designed to do.

The alternative is reasoning from electron movement: where the electron density is, what is electrophilic, what leaves and why, what the intermediate looks like. Taught properly, this takes four to six sessions, and it then applies to every reaction the examination can construct rather than to the list the student memorised. It is the highest return per hour available anywhere in Diploma chemistry.

It is also the work that most clearly needs a specialist rather than a budget tutor, because mechanism teaching requires someone who has marked these answers and knows what the scheme credits. A tutor who draws the mechanism correctly but cannot say which arrows earn marks is only half useful. This is one of the few places where the specialist band at AED 200 to AED 450 an hour is plainly worth the difference.

Higher Level students carry more of this content and more of the reasoning demand, so the block is longer and the case for the specialist stronger. Standard Level students often need only the first half of it. Either way, the honest way to buy is to ask a prospective tutor to teach one unfamiliar mechanism in the trial lesson. Whether they reason it out or recall it is visible within five minutes, and it is the single most informative thing you can watch.

04

Revision to stop paying for, and what to buy instead

A data booklet is provided in the IB chemistry examination. That single fact invalidates a large share of what students and tutors spend revision time on. If the relationships, constants and reference spectra are supplied, then rehearsing them is practising the one thing the examination has removed, and an hour spent on it is an hour not spent on selection and application.

What the booklet does not supply is judgement: which relationship applies here, what each symbol means in this context, which quantity the question has actually given you, and how to read the supplied reference data against an unknown. Those are the skills worth paying for, and they improve only through past-paper questions where the first step is choosing from the booklet and justifying the choice.

The second thing to stop paying for is passive review. A session in which the tutor works through a topic while the student follows is comfortable and produces very little, because chemistry marks come from the student's own written output. A session in which the student writes an explanation answer, the tutor marks it against the scheme in front of them, and the student rewrites it, is less pleasant and considerably more valuable per dirham.

The table below sets out what to stop and what to start, with the component each change affects. It is written to be acted on rather than admired: if you can only change one thing about how your current tutoring hour is spent, change the second row.

05

The investigation, and the cost of a bad research question

The Internal Assessment in IB chemistry is a single scientific investigation, designed and carried out by the student, marked out of 24 and moderated externally. Treated as a cost problem, it is the clearest case in the Diploma for spending early. One session in the autumn to narrow a research question is cheap. Five sessions in the spring to rescue a broad one is expensive, and the salvaged version has a lower ceiling.

The failure is nearly always the same. A student chooses something interesting and wide, spends weeks on apparatus and procedure, and discovers at the processing stage that the data cannot answer the question. By then the practical window has closed and the remaining options are all compromises. A narrow question with a clean independent variable, a measurable dependent variable and a sensible range produces a better mark than an ambitious question answered partially, every time.

The second avoidable expense is deciding the uncertainty treatment after collecting data. A student who plans propagation in advance measures the right quantities, takes enough repeats and records instrument resolutions as they go. A student who does not finds the required information was never written down, and the only remedy is repeating the practical, which costs laboratory time the school may not have spare.

The honesty boundary is firm and worth repeating here precisely because money is involved. A tutor may teach research design, uncertainty planning, data processing, graphing conventions and what each criterion rewards, and may read the student's own draft and say where it fails against a descriptor. A tutor may not write, redraft or restructure any part of it and may not supply a model to adapt. One provider in this market sells completed Internal Assessments at a published price; that is a transaction whose risk sits entirely with your child.

Group classes, centres and marketplaces: the cheaper options, honestly

  • Group classes: good for content coverage, weak for individual mechanism reasoning
  • Marketplaces: lower fee, selection work and mismatch risk transferred to you
  • Independent tutors: cheapest rate, no remedy, and a restart cost if it fails
  • Compare rate plus expected mismatch cost, not rate alone

One-to-one is not the only way to buy chemistry support, and this page would be dishonest if it pretended otherwise. Tuition centres in Al Barsha run group classes at lower per-student rates. International marketplaces list large numbers of tutors, frequently priced in dollars. An independent tutor found privately is often the cheapest option of all. Each has a real cost advantage and a real cost.

Group classes work well for content coverage and badly for mechanism reasoning, because mechanism teaching requires the tutor to watch an individual student's arrows and interrupt. In a group of six, the student who is reasoning wrongly is invisible until the test. Group work is a sensible purchase for a student who needs structure and company; it is a poor purchase for the specific problem that most often brings chemistry students to tutoring.

Marketplaces shift the selection work to you. The platform takes no view on whether a given tutor has taught Higher Level chemistry or supervised an investigation through moderation, which means you are paying a lower fee and doing the matching yourself, with no remedy if you get it wrong. For a confident parent with time, that can be good value. For most, the saving is offset by the first mismatched term.

An independent tutor is the cheapest and least underwritten. If the fit is wrong, you start the search again from the beginning, and that search has a cost in time and in weeks lost from the student's year. The useful comparison is not rate against rate but rate plus the expected cost of a mismatch, and the second term is where cheap arrangements usually stop being cheap.

07

Monthly budgets, and the fee context in Dubai

Hourly rates are the wrong unit for a household budget. Published monthly packages in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits, which is roughly double the money for half the number of contacts. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-tier and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

Put next to the rest of a Dubai education budget, one subject at the mid tier is a modest line and three subjects is not. That is the arithmetic behind the single most useful piece of advice on this page: buy one subject properly rather than three approximately. A weekly hour in chemistry, held for a term, with protected independent practice around it, outperforms thin coverage across chemistry, physics and mathematics at the same total cost.

The wider context has moved in families' favour for one year. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Dubai's 2026-27 intake also adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent.

The last budgeting note is about where support should sit in the two years. Spending in DP1 is cheaper per unit of effect than spending in DP2, because the gaps are smaller, the specialists are available and the student has time to practise. Nearly every family spends more in DP2, for understandable reasons. Knowing that the pattern is expensive is the beginning of changing it.

Higher Level, medicine applications and the one thing nobody can sell you

  • Medicine and related routes usually require chemistry at the higher level of the system
  • Check the individual programme page in the application year, not a general rule
  • British-track equivalency: five accredited subjects at E or 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education
  • No tutor can guarantee a grade; a re-match is the promise that can actually be tested

Chemistry is the Diploma subject most often taken at Higher Level for a reason outside the Diploma: medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and related applications usually require it at the higher level of whichever system the student is in. That turns a chemistry grade into an application gate, and it changes the spending calculus, because a grade on a hard threshold is the narrow case where the specialist and even the premium band can be justified.

Requirements vary by university, by country and by intake year, including at the Dubai campuses of overseas institutions. Read the individual programme page in the year your child applies, not two years earlier and not from a tutoring website, including this one. Any provider who tells you what a medical school requires without naming the school is guessing on your behalf about something checkable in five minutes.

Separately, the UAE Ministry of Education equivalency process has its own requirements, and it is not the same thing as admissions. For the British track the published rule is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level. For the IB, no points threshold appears in the source we could read, so no figure should be quoted to you without a moe.gov.ae reference. Equivalency is not something a tutoring platform performs or guarantees, and tutoring is not required for it.

The thing nobody can sell you is a grade. No tutor can guarantee a 7 in Higher Level chemistry, and any provider offering one is describing their marketing rather than their teaching. What can honestly be sold is specific: a diagnosis from the student's own marked work, a rate tier matched to the actual problem, mechanism teaching that generalises, an investigation coached within the rules, and a re-match if the fit is wrong after the first paid session. Those are testable, which is what makes them worth paying for.

Where we tutor

The communities this page serves

Chemistry requests come from the ring of residential communities around Media City. The relevant differences are the school mix, the journey home, and how much of the local market is pitched at which price tier.

Dubai Media City and Al Sufouh

Residential towers in a working district, nearest gates at GEMS Wellington International School and Dubai College. Local advertising here is weighted to agency in-home offerings at the higher published rates, because the area is affluent and compact rather than because the teaching differs.

Dubai Internet City

Sharing the Red Line Metro station with limited residential stock. Requests skew to Higher Level chemistry in DP1, often from students who chose three Higher Levels and are now deciding which one to defend with money and which with effort.

Dubai Knowledge Park

University and training campuses along the tram line, with residential towers and an older student profile. Chemistry questions from here often concern medicine applications and whether Higher Level is required, which is a prerequisite question rather than a grade question.

Dubai Marina and JBR

The largest population in range and the slowest evening roads, which is where the in-home travel premium is largest in practice. Later slots dominate and the online rate advantage is widest here for exactly that reason.

The Greens, The Views and Barsha Heights

Dense apartment communities with short school runs. Earlier slots are feasible, which makes a twice-weekly pre-session block cheaper to sustain because it does not collide with evening commitments.

Emirates Hills, The Meadows and The Springs

The villa belt feeding Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills and Emirates International School Meadows. Informal recommendation networks are strongest here, which tends to recommend the familiar tutor rather than the cheapest adequate one.

Al Barsha and Al Barsha South

The deepest school cluster within a short drive and the nearest cluster of tuition centres, including group-class options at lower per-student rates. Worth comparing honestly: group chemistry is cheaper and genuinely weaker for mechanism work.

Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Its own Metro station and a wide spread of school destinations. Steady demand for Standard Level chemistry and for Internal Assessment help in the DP1 spring, which is the most expensive window to buy in because every specialist is booked.

Al Sufouh and the tram corridor

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say what the problem is, in marks

Which paper, which question types, which topics. A returned paper is worth more than any description, because the chemistry diagnosis is visible in it: memorised reactions failing on unfamiliar substrates, explanation answers stopping at a statement, procedural losses in moles and uncertainty work.

  2. 02

We tell you which tier you need

Procedural repairs do not need a specialist at AED 200 to AED 450 an hour. Mechanism reasoning and a stalled investigation do. Matching the published tier to the actual problem is the part of this process that saves money, and we say when the cheaper option is sufficient.

  3. 03

Matched by level, with limits stated

Higher Level chemistry is treated as a separate specification from Standard. If no suitable specialist is free in the hour you need, you are told that with the earliest realistic alternative, including when the match would be a tutor based outside the UAE teaching in Gulf Standard Time.

  4. 04

Free trial lesson on one unfamiliar mechanism

One lesson at no cost. Ask the tutor to reason through a mechanism the student has not met, because whether they reason or recall is visible in five minutes. You get a written note afterwards naming the largest single loss and what the first four sessions would target, before anything is paid.

  5. 05

Reviewed at session four, against marked work

A timed piece marked against the real scheme, compared with the first session's diagnosis. If nothing has moved, the honest reading is that the match or the diagnosis was wrong rather than that more hours are needed, and a re-match costs you nothing further.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The rate tier matched to the problem

Uncertainty procedure and half-equation balancing are well served at the published AED 150 to AED 300 band. Mechanism reasoning and a stalled investigation need AED 200 to AED 450. The premium band at AED 500 to AED 650 has a narrow genuine case, and we will say when you are not in it.

Mechanism taught, not reactions memorised

Electron-movement reasoning takes four to six sessions and then applies to every reaction the examination can construct, rather than to the list the student learned. It is the highest return per hour in Diploma chemistry and the clearest test of whether a tutor is worth their rate.

Spending timed to the cheap window

A research question narrowed in the autumn costs one session; the same investigation rescued in the spring costs five and has a lower ceiling. DP1 support is cheaper per unit of effect than DP2 support. Most families spend the other way round, and it is worth knowing that before the term starts.

No travel premium in the rate

Published in-home rates run AED 180 to AED 500 an hour against AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified online tutor, and the in-home monthly package is roughly double for half the contacts. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai; home visits are a service we run only in India.

Honest about the cheaper alternatives

Group classes in Al Barsha cost less per student and are genuinely weaker for mechanism work. Marketplaces are cheaper and move the matching risk to you. An independent tutor is cheapest with no remedy. The right comparison is rate plus the expected cost of a mismatch.

Every figure attributed, no claim beyond it

The AED bands here are attributed to the providers and rate studies that published them, and the fee and regulatory statements to KHDA and the federal portal. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or partnership from any board or regulator, has no UAE office, and promises a re-match rather than a grade.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Media City: your questions answered

How much should I actually pay for IB chemistry help in Dubai?+

It depends on the problem rather than the level. Procedural work such as uncertainty handling, significant figures and half-equation balancing is well served at the published qualified band of AED 150 to AED 300 an hour. Organic mechanism reasoning, Higher Level equilibrium technique or a stalled Internal Assessment belong in the specialist band at AED 200 to AED 450 and above. The premium band at AED 500 to AED 650 has a narrow case. Those are other providers' published rates, not ours.

What is the most common way families waste money on chemistry tutoring?+

Buying content reteaching when the loss is technique. A student who understands bonding and loses marks on explanation structure does not need bonding retaught; they need explanation answers written out and marked until the shape is automatic. Content reteaching is pleasant, feels productive and changes very little, which is why it is the most widely sold form of science tutoring in every market. The marked paper tells you which of the two you are buying.

Why does my child know the reactions and still lose marks in organic chemistry?+

Because the examination supplies unfamiliar substrates deliberately, and memorised reactions do not transfer. The alternative is reasoning from electron movement: where the electron density sits, what is electrophilic, what leaves and why, what the intermediate looks like. Taught properly that takes four to six sessions and then applies to any reaction the paper can construct. It is the highest-return work in Diploma chemistry and the clearest case for paying specialist rather than budget rates.

How do I test a chemistry tutor in a single trial lesson?+

Ask them to reason through a mechanism your child has not met, out loud, from first principles. Whether they reason or recall is visible within five minutes, and it is the single most informative thing you can watch. Follow it with two factual questions: how is the Internal Assessment marked and out of how many, and what is supplied in the data booklet. A specialist answers both immediately. A generalist talks about building confidence.

Is a premium tutor at AED 650 an hour ever worth it for chemistry?+

Rarely, and the case is narrow. For a student whose problem is memorising instead of reasoning, the same four to six mechanism sessions work at roughly a third of that price. The genuine case is a Higher Level student aiming at a hard application threshold who needs examination judgement rather than teaching, and who has already fixed the procedural losses. Before paying the premium band, ask specifically what it does that the AED 270 tier does not.

Should we buy extra chemistry hours in the final weeks before the exams?+

Usually not more than two a week. By that point most of the remaining marks live in work the student does alone: papers attempted, mistakes logged, procedures repeated until automatic. Four tutored hours a week in the last month consumes exactly the time where those marks are, and families buy it because it feels like doing something. Two hours a week plus protected independent practice generally beats four tutored hours and costs half as much.

When is the cheapest moment to get help with the chemistry investigation?+

Before the research question is fixed, which costs one or two sessions and preserves the full mark ceiling. After data collection it takes three or four sessions and some marks are already unreachable, because data that was never recorded cannot be recovered without repeating the practical. During the write-up it takes three to five and the ceiling is set. The single cheapest intervention in Diploma chemistry is the autumn conversation that replaces a broad question with a narrow one.

What may a tutor legitimately do with my child's chemistry Internal Assessment?+

Teach research design, plan uncertainty treatment before data collection, teach data processing and graphing conventions, explain what each criterion rewards, and read the student's own draft and name precisely where it fails against a descriptor. What a tutor may not do is write, redraft or restructure any part of it, or supply a model to adapt. One provider in this market sells completed Internal Assessments at a published price; the risk in that transaction sits entirely with the student.

Are group chemistry classes in Al Barsha good value?+

For content coverage and structure, yes, and the per-student rate is genuinely lower. For mechanism reasoning, no, because that teaching depends on the tutor watching an individual student's arrows and interrupting. In a group of six the student reasoning wrongly is invisible until the test. If your child needs company and a timetable, a group class is a sensible purchase. If the problem is mechanism, it is the wrong product at any price.

Does the data booklet change what we should pay for?+

Substantially. Because relationships, constants and reference spectra are supplied, rehearsing them is practising the one thing the examination has removed. What is worth paying for is judgement: which relationship applies, what each symbol means in this context, which quantity has actually been given, and how to read supplied reference data against an unknown. Past-paper questions where the first step is choosing from the booklet and justifying the choice are the right use of the hour.

Why is an in-home chemistry tutor more expensive in Al Sufouh?+

Because the premium is travel. Published in-home rates run AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel included, against AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified online tutor, and the monthly packages tell the same story: AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits against AED 799 for eight online sessions. Chemistry teaching is particularly screen-friendly, since the work is a shared mechanism drawn step by step. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai.

Is it cheaper to spend in DP1 or DP2?+

DP1, clearly, and almost every family does the opposite. In DP1 the gaps are smaller, the specialists are available at normal rates, and the student has time to practise what they are taught. In DP2 the gaps have compounded, the spring is the busiest window in the market, and the investigation competes with revision. The same amount of money buys noticeably more effect a year earlier. Knowing the pattern is expensive is the first step to changing it.

Does my child need Higher Level chemistry for a medicine application?+

Usually chemistry is required at the higher level of whichever system the student is in, but requirements vary by university, by country and by intake year, including at the Dubai campuses of overseas institutions. Read the individual programme page in the application year rather than relying on a general rule or a tutoring website, including this one. Where a grade sits on a hard threshold, that is the narrow case where paying for a specialist rather than a generalist is clearly justified.

What should the first four sessions produce for the money?+

Something you can read without taking anyone's word for it. Session one diagnoses from your child's own marked work, session two targets the largest single loss, session three tests whether it transferred to an unseen question, and session four is a timed piece marked against the real scheme. If nothing has moved in marked work, the honest conclusion is that the match or the diagnosis was wrong rather than that more hours are needed, and a re-match follows.

Can a cheaper tutor handle uncertainty and significant figures properly?+

Yes, and this is the clearest saving available in chemistry. Uncertainty propagation, graph gradients with units, honest significant figures and half-equation balancing are mechanical procedures examined repeatedly, and they improve with drilled practice from any competent tutor at the published AED 150 to AED 300 band. There is no level-specific judgement involved. Reserve the specialist rate for mechanism reasoning, Higher Level technique and anything close to moderation.

Buy the right four sessions, not the most expensive ones

If you are weighing up an IB chemistry tutor in Dubai Media City, start by deciding which problem you are paying to fix. Procedural losses in uncertainty, significant figures and half-equations are well served at the published mid band. Organic mechanism reasoning and a stalled investigation justify the specialist band. Content reteaching, premium rates for mechanical repairs, extra hours in the final weeks and rescuing a doomed research question are the four reliable ways to waste a term. A free trial lesson on one unfamiliar mechanism tells you more than any rate card, and lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.
