IB MYP Tutor in Dubai Media City

Looking for an IB MYP tutor in Dubai Media City usually starts with a report card nobody can read. Criterion letters, numbers out of eight, approaches to learning comments, and no paper to point at. The honest answer is that very few adults in any radius of Al Sufouh have marked MYP work, and that subject group matters far more than distance. IB Gram matches on the group and the criterion, and teaches one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Dubai Media City

The Middle Years Programme is the hardest thing in Dubai to buy help for

Dubai Media City is a free zone of offices and studios in Al Sufouh, between Sheikh Zayed Road and the sea, with Dubai Internet City inland and Dubai Knowledge Park along the tram line. It has residential towers and no school. Middle Years students living here travel out, most often to the Al Barsha South continuum schools or to the IB schools in Emirates Hills, and come home in the late afternoon.

The scarcity problem is sharper for the MYP than for anything else. KHDA's 2024-25 figures record 387,441 students across 227 private schools licensed for 17 curricula, with the UK curriculum at 37 per cent of enrolment, Indian schools at 26 per cent, American at 14 per cent and International Baccalaureate at 7 per cent. The IB is the smallest of the four. Within it, the Diploma is the best-known programme, and the Middle Years Programme is smaller again because several Dubai continuum schools run a British middle school and only pick the IB up at 16.

Multiply that down and the pool of adults who have actually marked MYP work in a specific subject group becomes very thin. Plenty of good teachers around Al Sufouh can teach a thirteen-year-old science or English well. Far fewer can look at a criterion C score of 4 in MYP Sciences and say which sentence in the student's write-up stopped it being a 6. That second skill is the one you are trying to buy, and it is not distributed geographically.

This is made worse by the reporting. The MYP has no public paper in most subjects, so there is no artefact a parent can inspect. Grades arrive as four criterion scores out of eight, which the school converts with a published boundary table into a 1 to 7 subject grade, and alongside them sit comments about approaches to learning. A parent reading Criterion B: 4 has no way of telling whether that is a content gap, a method problem or a write-up problem, and those three need completely different interventions.

So the first useful hour of MYP tutoring is diagnostic rather than instructional. Put the student's own marked task and the school's rubric in front of someone who knows the descriptors, and the answer usually arrives within twenty minutes. Without that, buying MYP support is buying general subject teaching, which the school already supplies and which the criterion scores have already told you is not the issue.

On delivery: IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Lessons run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, usually between 4.30pm and 9pm. For a programme where the scarce resource is criterion expertise rather than proximity, widening the pool to everyone teaching in this time zone is not a compromise. It is the only way the match gets made properly.

At a glance

  • Media City has no school; MYP students travel to Al Barsha South or Emirates Hills
  • The IB holds about 7 per cent of Dubai private enrolment; the MYP is a subset of that
  • Four criteria per subject, each out of eight, converted by the school's boundary table
  • No public paper in most subjects, so there is no artefact a parent can inspect
  • The first hour should be diagnostic, using the student's own marked task and rubric
  • Lessons run over live video in Gulf Standard Time, with no travel in the price
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Around Media City, a child of Middle Years age may be in any of these. The programme decides whether tutoring is criterion work, paper practice or something else entirely.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1 to MYP 5

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups studied together, each assessed against four criteria marked out of eight, with the subject grade built from tasks across the year rather than from an examination. MYP 5 adds the Personal Project. Interdisciplinary units and service as action run alongside, and approaches to learning skills are reported on separately from subject achievement.

In Dubai the MYP is the minority middle-school route even inside IB schools, because several continuum schools enter students for IGCSE at 16 instead. For a Media City family that means a child in MYP 4 may have classmates heading for IGCSE and classmates heading straight into the Diploma, and the subject decisions taken in MYP 4 start to diverge from that point.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme

Six subjects with three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service, scored out of 45. Each subject carries an Internal Assessment worth a fifth to a quarter of the grade. The step up from MYP is less about content than about carrying six sets of internal deadlines at once.

UAE IB schools sit the May session, with November as the second sitting. Specific IB session and results dates are not published here, because ibo.org blocks automated checking and no date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself; the school's IB coordinator is the authority. The Diploma is offered at GEMS Wellington International School in Al Sufouh and Dubai American Academy in Al Barsha among others.

PYPAges 3-12 · Early Years to Grade 5

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led and organised by transdisciplinary themes, ending with the Grade 5 Exhibition. Reports describe approaches to learning rather than marks, which families arriving from British, Indian or American primaries find hard to interpret. The transition into MYP 1 is where the criterion system first appears, and it surprises most parents.

The nearest full IB continuum primaries to Media City sit in Al Barsha South and Emirates Hills rather than in Al Sufouh, so primary families here are already making a reasonable journey. Where a child will continue into the MYP, the useful preparation is extended writing stamina and number fluency rather than coverage of a curriculum.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

The IGCSE route at 16 instead

Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, externally examined, with syllabus codes such as 0580 Mathematics and 0620 Chemistry. This is what most 14 to 16 year olds in this part of Dubai are doing, and it is also the route some IB continuum schools switch their own students onto at MYP 4.

The two systems assess almost nothing the same way. MYP marking rewards process, investigation and reflection against descriptors; IGCSE rewards answering a past-paper question in the language of a mark scheme. A tutor who is strong on one is not automatically useful on the other, and in MYP 4 and 5 that mismatch is the most common one in this corridor.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

MYP students study all eight groups simultaneously, so a request from this corridor is almost never a whole subject. It is one criterion inside one group. These are the places marks go.

MYP Language and Literature

English, plus other first languages by school

Analysing, organising, producing text and using language. Criterion A is the hard one: it wants interpretation supported by close textual reference, not summary. Strong readers narrate what happens. The work is annotation discipline and writing about how a writer builds an effect rather than what the passage contains.

MYP Language Acquisition

Phases 1-6, usually French, Spanish or Arabic

Four criteria across listening, reading, speaking and writing, with the phase setting the expected standard. The frequent Dubai problem is a student placed in a phase above their measured ability because of years of informal exposure. Support is phase-appropriate output practice with a lot of structured speaking.

MYP Individuals and Societies

History, Geography and Economics strands

Criterion A rewards specific terminology and examples; criterion D rewards evaluated sources and a defensible judgement. Students raised on narrative history describe. The repair is command-term drilling, because analyse, evaluate and justify ask for three different paragraph shapes and MYP marking notices which arrived.

MYP Sciences

Integrated, or separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics

Criterion B wants a method a stranger could repeat; criterion C the processing and evaluation of the student's own data. Criterion C is where most marks are lost: the graph is drawn, the trend described, and the evaluation of method limitations never arrives. Taught as a structure, it moves quickly.

MYP Mathematics

Standard and Extended pathways

Knowing and understanding, investigating patterns, communicating, and applying mathematics in real-life contexts. Criterion B stalls capable students because it wants a general rule justified and tested, not a correct answer produced. The MYP 4 pathway decision also shapes what is comfortable in the Diploma.

MYP Design

Digital and product design

Inquiring and analysing, developing ideas, creating the solution, evaluating. The portfolio is the assessment and it fails on documentation rather than on making. Students build something that works and lose criterion A marks for a thin research stage. The design cycle write-up is where almost all the marks sit.

MYP Arts

Visual arts, music, drama

Knowing and understanding, developing skills, thinking creatively, responding. The process journal carries the marks, which means a genuinely talented student can sit at a 4 because the developmental record is thin. Support is journal structure, artist research and critical response language rather than technique coaching.

MYP Physical and Health Education

MYP 1-5

Knowing and understanding, planning for performance, applying and performing, reflecting on performance. The written and reflective criteria frequently pull the grade down, since practical ability carries only part of the mark. Support is usually short and focused on planning and reflection documents.

MYP Arabic and the mandatory UAE subjects

First language and additional language streams

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social and Moral Studies are required in all Dubai private schools whatever the licensed curriculum, and KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students because expectations and the language of instruction differ. Support reinforces the school's own material rather than importing a syllabus.

Interdisciplinary units

All MYP years

Assessed units that combine two subject groups, marked against their own criteria covering disciplinary grounding, synthesis and reflection. Students treat them as a project and lose marks for not making the synthesis explicit. One session on what synthesis looks like in writing usually fixes it.

The Personal Project

MYP 5

Self-directed, with a process journal and a report, externally moderated. A supervisor at school signs off the process. A tutor may teach planning, research method, referencing and reflection and may give feedback on the student's own drafts. A tutor may not write, draft or produce any part of it.

Approaches to learning skills

Reported separately from subject achievement

Thinking, communication, social, self-management and research skills, which appear on the report in their own right. Self-management is the one that most often explains a scattered set of criterion scores, and it is addressed by fixing the week rather than by teaching more content.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families around Media City use MYP support, all one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time.

Criterion diagnosis and weekly follow-up

One hour a week in a single subject group, built around the criterion the last report flagged and the current school task. The first session is diagnostic, using the student's own marked work and the school's rubric, which is what makes the following sessions specific rather than general subject teaching.

  • Fixed weekly hour, usually 5pm to 8.30pm Gulf Standard Time
  • The school's own task sheets and rubrics are the working documents
  • Written criterion feedback after each session, in descriptor language
  • Recorded, so a missed evening is recoverable

Project coaching for MYP 5

A short block across the Personal Project year covering goal setting, research method, referencing, process journal discipline and reflective writing. The tutor teaches the method and comments on the student's own drafts. Every word of the project and the report stays the student's work, and the school supervisor owns the process.

  • A goal narrow enough to finish and evidence properly
  • Research and referencing technique, including source evaluation
  • Journal discipline across the whole year, not a reconstruction at the end
  • Feedback on the student's own drafts only, never drafting for them

Route preparation at 16

An intensive block in MYP 5 for students about to move into the Diploma or into IGCSE. Content gaps are mapped against the entry expectations of the intended subjects, then closed in order of how much later work depends on them. Usually two sessions a week over six to ten weeks.

  • Diagnostic against the real entry expectations rather than a generic test
  • A prioritised gap list the family can see and track
  • Mathematics routed to Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation
  • A written handover summary at the end of the block

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai Media City

01

Who actually teaches the MYP, and why the pool is so small

  • The MYP is a subset of the IB's 7 per cent share of Dubai private enrolment
  • Local search returns the findable, not the criterion-literate
  • Ask which four criteria the group uses and what a top band asks for
  • Subject group beats proximity in every version of this decision

An IB MYP tutor in Dubai Media City means a subject-group specialist who has marked against MYP criterion descriptors, teaching one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time. The phrase sounds narrow and it is. Dubai has 227 private schools running 17 curricula, the IB holds roughly 7 per cent of enrolment, and the Middle Years Programme is a subset of that because several continuum schools switch to IGCSE at 14.

That arithmetic is why a local search for MYP help returns mostly general tutors. The people advertising in Al Barsha and the Marina are selected for being findable, not for having supervised an MYP Design portfolio or marked Individuals and Societies criterion D. Many are excellent teachers of the underlying subject, and for a student who simply needs algebra fluency that is sufficient. For a student whose criterion C scores are stuck, it is not.

There is a quick way to tell the difference in conversation. Ask which four criteria the subject group uses and what the top band of one of them asks for. Someone who has marked the work answers in descriptor language without hesitating. Someone who has not talks about building confidence and filling gaps, which is a description of general tutoring and an honest signal.

Once the subject-group question is settled, proximity stops being interesting. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. Lessons run over live video, which means an Al Sufouh family can work with the person who has actually marked MYP Design in Sharjah rather than with the nearest available adult who holds an engineering degree.

02

The eight subject groups and what each criterion actually rewards

Every MYP subject is assessed against four criteria, each out of eight, and the school converts the raw total using a published boundary table into a 1 to 7 grade. The criteria are named differently across subject groups, which is precisely why a report card is hard to read, but the underlying structure is consistent enough to be diagnostic.

Broadly, the first criterion rewards knowing and understanding: accurate subject terminology applied to a situation rather than recalled in isolation. The second rewards process, which in Sciences is a repeatable method, in Mathematics a justified general rule and in Design a research stage with real analysis in it. The third rewards communication or the handling of results. The fourth rewards evaluation and reflection, and it is the most routinely abandoned because it comes last and students run out of time.

The practical consequence is that the highest-value tutoring move is rarely more content. It is reading the actual descriptor for the band above the student's current one and rewriting a single paragraph of their own recent work to match it. Students find this surprising the first time, because the descriptor for a top band almost never asks for more words. It asks for a judgement justified against evidence the student produced themselves.

The table maps the four criteria across the groups most requested from this corridor. Exact names and strands are set by the current subject guide and your child's school is the authority on which version it is running, so use this to read the report rather than to argue with the teacher.

03

Approaches to learning: what the report card is really telling you

  • Scattered criterion scores across subjects point at self-management, not content
  • Uniformly low scores in one subject point at that subject
  • Research and referencing skills are penalised through criteria that look subject-specific
  • Fixing the week generalises across all eight groups; teaching one group does not

Alongside criterion scores, an MYP report comments on approaches to learning: thinking, communication, social, self-management and research skills. Parents tend to skim these as pastoral commentary. They are frequently the most diagnostic part of the document, especially when the criterion scores are scattered rather than uniformly low.

A student with a 7 in one criterion and a 3 in another, across several subjects, usually has a self-management problem rather than a subject problem. Tasks are started late, drafts are not revisited, and the criteria that come last in a piece of work are the ones that suffer. No amount of subject teaching fixes that, and buying subject teaching for it is the commonest way MYP tutoring money is wasted in this corridor.

Research skills are the other quiet signal. The MYP asks students to find, evaluate and reference sources from quite early on, and a student who has never been taught to do it properly produces work that is penalised under criteria which look like subject criteria. This is cheap to fix, generalises across every subject group at once, and is almost never the thing a family asks for.

The practical reading is simple. Uniformly low criterion scores in one subject point at that subject. Scattered scores across several subjects point at the week, the organisation or the research habits, and the honest first intervention is a conversation about how the student works rather than an hour of teaching. We would rather say that than sell six sessions of Sciences to a student whose actual problem is that every task is started the night before.

04

Projects, service and the honesty line

  • A tutor teaches method, referencing, journal discipline and reflective writing
  • A tutor comments on the student's own drafts against published descriptors
  • A tutor never writes, drafts, restructures or supplies model project work
  • A messy, dated process journal is what defends authenticity under moderation

The MYP carries project work through its whole length and ends with the Personal Project in MYP 5: a self-directed piece with a goal the student sets, a process journal kept across the year, and a report that is externally moderated. Some schools also run a community project in MYP 3 or MYP 4, and service as action runs throughout. All of it is the student's own work by definition.

The boundary is easy to state and routinely crossed in this market. A tutor may teach research method, referencing conventions, source evaluation, how to keep a journal that genuinely evidences development, and how to write a reflection that answers the criterion. A tutor may read the student's own draft and say precisely where a paragraph fails against a descriptor. A tutor may not write any part of the project, may not restructure a draft on the student's behalf, and may not supply a model report to be adapted.

One provider in this market sells completed Internal Assessments at a published price. The risk in that transaction sits with the student, not the provider: a moderator who sees a report written in an adult register, or a process journal with no development in it, has grounds to question authenticity, and the school supervisor is the person who signs the process off. Genuine coaching produces a journal that looks messy and dated, which is exactly what defends the work.

A good test of any provider, this one included: ask what their tutor does with a weak draft. The honest answer is that it comes back marked against the descriptor with instructions to rewrite. Any answer in which the tutor improves the text directly is an answer about that provider's risk appetite rather than about teaching.

05

MYP 5 to Diploma or IGCSE: the decision and the gap

At 16, a Dubai MYP student takes one of two routes: into the IB Diploma, or into IGCSE and then A Levels or the Diploma afterwards. Some continuum schools make the decision for the cohort; others leave it to the family. Either way the groundwork was laid earlier, and the mathematics pathway chosen in MYP 4 is the single most constraining element.

The step into the Diploma is a step up in volume rather than in difficulty. Six subjects, three Internal Assessments running at once, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge, all with school deadlines months before any examination. MYP students generally arrive with better extended writing and reflection habits than IGCSE students, and worse quantitative speed. Both gaps are visible in the first term and both are cheaper to close in the summer before it.

The step into IGCSE is a step sideways into a different assessment logic. A student who has spent five years being marked against descriptors has to learn to answer a past-paper question in mark-scheme language, under time, with no credit for process. That is a learnable skill and it takes a term, and it is the reason MYP students sometimes underperform in their first IGCSE mocks despite being perfectly well taught.

The table sets out what each route assumes, so a family can see where the work has to go. Confirm specifics with the school, since entry expectations differ between institutions and between intake years.

06

What MYP support costs, and the one thing a report card cannot price

Published rates in Dubai divide cleanly. Budget online tutoring runs from AED 45 to AED 150 an hour, with EdFlik publishing from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52. Qualified subject tutors working online are published from AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors at IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Specialists run AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270, and premium named tutoring reaches AED 500 to AED 650 and beyond, with BartyED at AED 650.

For the MYP the tier question is unusual, because the thing you are paying for is criterion literacy rather than subject depth. A budget tutor can teach the content of MYP Sciences perfectly adequately and cannot tell you why criterion C is stuck at 4, which is the only question you actually asked. That pushes MYP work towards the qualified and specialist bands not because the content is hard but because the marking knowledge is rare.

In-home visits are published between AED 180 and AED 500 an hour including travel, with Bestimate's band at AED 180 to AED 350. Monthly packages in this market include AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. For a programme where marks accumulate from weekly tasks, eight contacts beat four decisively, and the in-home package costs roughly double. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly hour run AED 240 to AED 600 budget, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist support.

Those are other providers' published figures, not IB Gram prices. The thing a report card cannot price is the diagnosis: until someone who knows the descriptors has looked at the student's own marked task, you do not know whether you are buying four sessions or a term. That is why the first lesson is free and produces a written note, and why the note is worth reading before any money changes hands.

The mandatory UAE subjects inside an MYP timetable

A Dubai MYP timetable has to carry eight subject groups plus the subjects every private school in the emirate is required to teach. KHDA requires Arabic, Islamic Education and Social and Moral Studies in all Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, with requirements to be implemented from the start of the 2025-26 academic year.

The rules are specific, and they explain a good deal about why MYP timetables are tight. Schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Standard Arabic must be the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arab students and for Arabic as a first language. Instructional time is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and KHDA advises that any mandatory subject lesson should run at least 25 minutes.

For a parent, the practical effect is that eight MYP subject groups and the mandatory subjects compete for the same week, which is one reason criterion D so often goes unfinished. It is also why adding tutoring in three subjects is frequently counterproductive: the student does not have spare hours, and the hours you buy come out of the task time the criteria are actually measuring.

Two constraints shape what honest tutoring in the mandatory subjects looks like. KHDA requires schools to ensure all teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold appropriate KHDA approval to teach them, and for the mandatory subjects the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited. Support therefore reinforces the school's own material and builds language fluency rather than importing a parallel syllabus. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry, IB, Cambridge or Pearson approval, accreditation or partnership, and has no UAE office.

08

When the subject group we need is not covered

  • Design, Language Acquisition phases, first-language Arabic and Arts journals are the hard matches
  • Unavailability is disclosed with an earliest realistic alternative
  • The second half of MYP 5 is the hardest window in the Middle Years calendar
  • A wrong match is re-matched after the first paid session

The genuinely hard matches in this corridor are predictable: MYP Design with a digital design focus, Language Acquisition in a specific phase, the Economics strand of Individuals and Societies, Arabic as a first language for a student schooled in English since nursery, and Arts where the process journal rather than the technique is the problem. Those are the requests where a local search returns nobody useful and families settle for a generalist.

We publish the limit rather than improvising. If no suitable specialist is free in the slot you want, you are told that with the earliest realistic alternative. Where no UAE-based specialist covers a subject group, the match may be a tutor based elsewhere teaching in Gulf Standard Time, and that is said before you book rather than concealed behind a local-sounding number. Two providers ranking for Dubai searches route parents to numbers in another country without disclosing it.

Timing changes difficulty sharply. September requests are easy. Requests in the second half of MYP 5, when the Personal Project, the route decision at 16 and content gaps are all live at once, are the hardest in the Middle Years calendar. The useful first step then is a diagnostic trial lesson that decides what to leave alone, because trying to fix everything in a term fixes nothing.

If a match turns out wrong after the first paid session, you are matched again. No tutor can guarantee a criterion score or a subject grade, and a provider offering one is describing their marketing. The testable promises are narrower: a diagnosis from the student's own marked task, a weekly slot that holds, criterion feedback you can line up against the school's own marking, and a re-match if the fit is wrong.

Where we tutor

Where Middle Years students around Media City live

The MYP population in this corridor is dispersed, and the journey home varies more than the school choice does. These are the communities we work with and what each means for scheduling.

Dubai Media City and Al Sufouh

Residential towers in a working district with the tram on the sea side and the Metro inland. Middle Years students here are mostly bussed to Al Barsha South or Emirates Hills, so sessions settle at six o'clock or later across the week.

Dubai Internet City

Sharing the Metro station and the street pattern, with limited residential stock and similar school destinations. Requests here skew to MYP 4 and MYP 5, usually when a route decision at 16 is approaching and the criterion scores are inconsistent.

Dubai Knowledge Park

University and training campuses along the tram line with residential towers attached. Fewer Middle Years students than the surrounding areas, and the requests that do come tend to be MYP 5 Personal Project coaching rather than subject work.

Al Barsha South

Home to the nearest full IB continuum provision, including Dwight School Dubai and Bloom World Academy. Short school runs, so earlier slots are feasible, though the roads around the gates stall between 2.30pm and 3.30pm.

The Greens, The Views and Barsha Heights

Dense apartment communities either side of Sheikh Zayed Road with a large school-age population. Mixed systems within single buildings, which is why parents here compare notes and get contradictory answers about what the report card means.

Dubai Marina and JBR

The largest resident population in range and the slowest evening exit. Marina families take the later slots and use lesson recordings most, because MYP tasks are set with deadlines that do not pause for a school trip.

Emirates Hills, The Meadows and The Springs

The villa belt feeding Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills and Emirates International School Meadows, both IB continuum schools. Most of the corridor's MYP requests in Individuals and Societies and Design come from here.

Jumeirah Lakes Towers

Its own Metro station and a wide spread of school destinations. Steady demand for MYP Language Acquisition support, usually where a student has been placed in a phase above their measured ability.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai Media City

Al Barsha South and the inland continuum cluster

Al Sufouh and the tram corridor

The gates genuinely near Media City, where the IB appears mainly at Diploma level rather than in the middle years. Useful context because a neighbour's child at the same school may be on an entirely different system at 14.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Read the report out loud to us

Which subject group, which criterion letter, which number out of eight, and what the approaches to learning comments say. Fifteen minutes of that is worth more than a general description of the subject, and it is what lets the match be specific rather than approximate.

  2. 02

Send the marked task and the rubric

The school's own task sheet, the rubric it was marked against and the student's work. Together those three documents usually identify the problem within twenty minutes, and without them any MYP diagnosis is guesswork dressed up as experience.

  3. 03

Matched by subject group and MYP year

Matching is by the eight subject groups and the specific MYP year, because MYP 2 and MYP 5 are different jobs. If nobody suitable is free in your preferred slot you are told directly, with the earliest alternative, including when the match is a tutor based outside the UAE.

  4. 04

    Free diagnostic trial lesson

One lesson at no cost with the student's own marked work in front of the tutor, followed by a written note saying which criterion is costing marks and what the first four sessions would address. Nothing is paid until you have read that note and agreed with it.

  5. 05

    Feedback in descriptor language

Short written feedback after each session, phrased against the published descriptors so you can line it up against the school's own marking. When the next report arrives you can see whether the targeted criterion moved, which is the only honest measure of whether this is working.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Criterion literacy is the thing being bought

Plenty of tutors can teach the content of an MYP subject. Far fewer can look at a criterion C score of 4 and name the sentence that capped it. That skill is rare, is not distributed geographically, and is the only reason to pay above the budget band for Middle Years work.

Diagnosis before purchase

Scattered criterion scores across several subjects point at self-management or research habits, not at content. We would rather say that in a free trial lesson than sell six sessions of Sciences to a student whose real problem is that every task starts the night before.

Projects coached inside the rules

Method, referencing, journal discipline and reflective writing taught explicitly; feedback given on the student's own drafts only. Nothing written, restructured or supplied. A provider in this market sells completed coursework, and the risk in that transaction sits with the student.

Weekly continuity, because the grade accumulates

MYP grades are built from tasks across the year rather than from a paper, so eight monthly contacts beat four. Published packages show AED 799 a month for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits, which is the wrong shape as well as the wrong price.

No travel premium, and no false authority

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai; home visits are a service we run only in India. It holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry of Education, IB, Cambridge or Pearson approval, accreditation or partnership, has no UAE office, and claims no relationship with any school named here.

Honest about the hardest window

The second half of MYP 5 is the hardest point in the Middle Years calendar, with the Personal Project, the route decision and content gaps all live together. At that stage the first job is deciding what to leave alone, and we will say so rather than promise all of it.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai Media City: your questions answered

Why is it so hard to find anyone who knows the MYP in Dubai?+

Because the pool is genuinely small. Dubai has 227 private schools across 17 curricula, IB schools hold roughly 7 per cent of enrolment, and the Middle Years Programme is a subset of that again since several continuum schools enter students for IGCSE at 16 instead. Narrow that to a single subject group and the number of adults who have marked against those criterion descriptors is very low. Local search returns people who are findable, not people who are criterion-literate, which is why matching online widens the pool usefully.

How do I test whether a tutor really knows MYP marking?+

Ask which four criteria the subject group uses and what the top band of one of them asks for. Someone who has marked the work answers in descriptor language without hesitating: a method a stranger could repeat, a general rule justified and tested, an evaluated judgement supported by the student's own evidence. Someone who has not talks about confidence and filling gaps. That is a perfectly honest description of general subject tutoring, and it tells you which product you are being offered.

My child has a 7 in one criterion and a 3 in another. What does that mean?+

Usually that the piece of work ran out of time rather than that the subject is misunderstood. The criteria that come last in a task, typically evaluation and reflection, are the ones that suffer when a deadline arrives. If that pattern repeats across several subjects, the diagnosis is self-management rather than content, and the approaches to learning comments on the report will usually confirm it. Buying subject teaching for that pattern is the commonest way Middle Years tutoring money is wasted.

What are approaches to learning skills, and should I care about them?+

They are thinking, communication, social, self-management and research skills, reported separately from subject achievement, and they are frequently the most diagnostic part of an MYP report. Research skills in particular get penalised through criteria that look subject-specific: a student who has never been taught to find, evaluate and reference sources properly loses marks that look like knowledge marks. Fixing research habits generalises across all eight subject groups at once, which makes it unusually good value.

How does the school turn four criterion scores into a grade out of seven?+

It adds them, giving a raw total out of 32, and applies a published boundary table to convert that into the 1 to 7 subject grade. This is worth knowing because it changes where effort should go: a student sitting on 5s is usually strong on one criterion and systematically missing what another asks for, and moving one criterion by two points can move the subject grade. Ask the school for the boundary table it uses; most will provide it.

Can a tutor help with the MYP community project as well as the Personal Project?+

Within the same boundary, yes. A tutor may teach planning, research method, referencing, source evaluation and reflective writing, and may read the student's own draft and say where it fails against a descriptor. A tutor may not write, draft or restructure any part of it and may not supply a model. For the community project in MYP 3 or 4 the most useful help is usually narrowing an over-ambitious goal, which is the same failure that catches MYP 5 students two years later.

What makes a process journal strong under moderation?+

Dated entries that show genuine development, including the attempts that did not work. A journal reconstructed in the final fortnight reads as a reconstruction, and a moderator who sees no development alongside a polished report has grounds to question authenticity. The habit is worth more than the content: ten minutes a week of honest recording produces something defensible, while a tidy summary written at the end produces something that undermines the student's own work.

Does MYP Sciences criterion C have a reliable fix?+

Yes, and it is structural rather than conceptual. Criterion C asks for the processing and evaluation of the student's own data, and students consistently process and then stop. The missing element is evaluation of the method's limitations tied to the specific experiment rather than a generic list of errors. Taught as a structure, with the student writing it and the tutor marking it against the descriptor, it usually moves within two or three sessions. It also transfers directly to Diploma science.

My child is in MYP Design and builds good products but scores 4s. Why?+

Because the portfolio is the assessment and the making is not. Criterion A rewards inquiring and analysing, which means a research stage with real analysis in it, and criterion D rewards evaluation against the design specification the student wrote. A student who builds something that works and documents it thinly loses marks in both. The fix is the design cycle write-up rather than the workshop, which is unwelcome news and reliably true.

Should a Media City MYP student be doing extra work in all eight subject groups?+

No, and the timetable is the reason. Eight subject groups plus the mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and Social and Moral Studies that KHDA requires in all Dubai private schools already fill the week, with instructional time calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit. Hours bought for tutoring come out of the task time the criteria are actually measuring. One subject group at a time, chosen from the report, is the shape that works for students in this corridor.

Is the MYP a disadvantage if my child moves to an IGCSE school at 14?+

Not a disadvantage in ability, but a real adjustment in assessment logic. A student marked against descriptors for five years has to learn to answer a past-paper question in mark-scheme language, under time, with no credit for process. That is learnable and takes about a term, and it explains why MYP students sometimes underperform in their first IGCSE mocks despite being well taught. Ask the new school in writing how it intends to place the student and on which tier.

What time do MYP sessions usually run from the Media City towers?+

Between six and eight in the evening. Middle Years students here are mostly bussed to Al Barsha South or Emirates Hills, the roads around those gates stall for about an hour after the final bell, and a route serving several communities adds stops, so a child is typically home between four and five. Add food and a start on school tasks and the workable window begins at six. Earlier bookings get rescheduled often enough to break the weekly rhythm the programme depends on.

How much should Middle Years support cost in Dubai?+

Published rates put qualified online subject tutors at AED 150 to AED 300 an hour and specialists at AED 200 to AED 450 and above, with budget options from AED 45 to AED 150 and premium named tutoring at AED 500 to AED 650. For the MYP the unusual part is that the premium you are paying is for marking knowledge rather than subject depth, which is why budget tutoring often teaches the content well and still cannot answer the question you asked.

Can Arabic and Islamic Education be tutored like any other MYP subject?+

Not quite, because the rules differ. KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, since the expectations and the language of instruction differ, and it requires schools to ensure teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education hold appropriate KHDA approval. For the mandatory subjects, using different or additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission is prohibited, so honest support reinforces the school's own material rather than importing another syllabus.

It is already the second half of MYP 5. Is support still worth buying?+

Yes, but the job changes from improvement to triage. At that point the Personal Project, the route decision at 16 and any content gaps are all live together, and trying to fix everything fixes nothing. The usual plan is to stabilise the project process, close gaps only in the subjects the student will carry into the Diploma or IGCSE, and accept that one or two criterion scores will not move this year. A free diagnostic lesson is the quickest way to decide which.

Bring the marked task, not just the worry

If you are looking for an IB MYP tutor in Dubai Media City, the most useful thing you can do first is gather three documents: the school's task sheet, the rubric it was marked against, and your child's own work. Put those in front of someone who knows the descriptors and the diagnosis usually arrives within twenty minutes, which is a far better basis for spending than a report card nobody can read. The free trial lesson exists for exactly that, and it produces a written note before any money is paid. Lessons then run one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, in a slot the week can actually hold.
