IB Physics Tutor in Al Rashidiya

The search for an IB physics tutor in Al Rashidiya is a search for a narrow specialism in a district that has none of its own. The IB accounts for roughly seven per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment, Higher Level physics is a minority of that, and the number of people within a short drive of the airport who have taught the current course through to a final paper is genuinely small. IB Gram teaches it one to one over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, with a free trial lesson on a past question first.

  • Matched to the current Physics guide, Themes A to E, not an older syllabus
  • Higher Level extensions and the scientific investigation both covered
  • Live one-to-one video in Gulf Standard Time, no travel in the rate
  • Free first lesson worked on a past question before any payment

IB & IGCSE in Al Rashidiya

Is there anybody near here who has actually taught this course?

That is the real question, and the honest answer in Al Rashidiya is: probably not, and it does not matter as much as you think. The district sits between Dubai International Airport, Al Garhoud and Nad Al Hamar, and it has no secondary school of its own. Its Diploma students travel north to the Garhoud cluster or east towards Mirdif, and the nearest IB continuum option is Uptown International School. That is the whole local pool before you start narrowing by subject.

Then narrow it. The IB accounts for around seven per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment against thirty-seven per cent on a UK curriculum, so Diploma cohorts here are smaller than British-curriculum ones to begin with. Of a Diploma cohort, a minority take physics. Of those, a minority take it at Higher Level. The population of adults who have taught Higher Level physics through to a final examination and who also happen to live fifteen minutes from the airport tunnel is a number you could probably count on one hand, and the chances that one of them is free at 5.30pm on a Tuesday are poor.

This is the part most tutoring pages avoid saying. Instead of pretending the local pool is deep, we match on the course. Lessons for Al Rashidiya families are delivered one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, with the tutor chosen because they have taught the current Physics guide rather than because they live nearby. Home visits are a service offered only in India; nobody is driving to an address in the UAE for a physics lesson, and on a subject this narrow that constraint buys you more than it costs you.

There is a second scarcity problem worth naming, which is that physics tutoring is frequently sold by people who last taught an older syllabus. The current course is organised into five themes, A to E, with Higher Level extensions running through each, and the assessment has changed shape from what a tutor trained a decade ago will remember. A tutor working from the previous structure will teach content that is still physics and still waste a student's revision time, and the student will not know it is happening.

None of this means a local tutor is a bad person or a bad teacher. It means the subject is narrow and the district is small, and those two facts together make distance the wrong filter to apply first.

So this page is built as a test you can run. What is actually in the course now. What the components are and where marks leave. What the scientific investigation asks for and when it has to start. Six questions that separate someone who has taught this from someone who has read about it. And the market rates in dirhams, each attributed, so you can tell whether the quote in front of you is reasonable.

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics problems rarely begin in the Diploma. They begin where the mathematics was left incomplete. These are the stages we cover either side of DP physics for students in this part of Dubai.

Diploma Programme Physics

Available at Standard and Higher Level. The current course is built around five themes: space, time and motion; the particulate nature of matter; wave behaviour; fields; and nuclear and quantum physics, with Higher Level extensions inside each. Assessment is written papers plus the scientific investigation, which carries twenty per cent. Confirm the current structure and weightings with your school's IB coordinator before planning around them.

An Al Rashidiya student sitting DP physics is most likely enrolled in the Garhoud or Mirdif clusters, where Diploma cohorts are small by Dubai standards. Small cohorts mean a single physics teacher often carries both levels, which is excellent for continuity and leaves very little slack if a student falls behind in Theme D. That is the specific gap one-to-one support fills here.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme Sciences

Assessed against criteria A to D, with physics taught inside an integrated sciences course in most schools rather than as a separate subject. MYP builds investigation design and evaluation skills that transfer well to the Diploma investigation, and builds considerably less of the algebraic fluency that Diploma physics assumes from the first week of DP1.

The MYP-to-DP physics step is the commonest reason a strong middle-school scientist struggles in DP1 locally. The content is manageable; the algebra is not, because rearranging a formula with three variables under time pressure was never drilled. A short bridging block in the summer before DP1 fixes more of this than a term of content teaching afterwards.

IGCSE Physics into Diploma Physics

The crossing most Dubai students make, because UK-curriculum schools dominate enrolment. Cambridge 0625 and Pearson 4PH1 leave a student well drilled in recall and standard calculations, and short on the Diploma's demand for derivation, for reasoning from a model, and for handling uncertainty in data properly rather than quoting a value.

A student moving from a British-curriculum school in Mirdif or Al Qusais into a Diploma Programme in Al Garhoud is a routine local case. The three things that reliably need building in that first term are uncertainty and error analysis, graph linearisation, and the confidence to manipulate an equation symbolically instead of substituting numbers immediately.

Engineering and physical science routes

What Higher Level physics is usually for. Engineering, physics and several medicine-adjacent routes commonly expect it, typically alongside Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches rather than Applications and Interpretation. Requirements vary by university and change between admission cycles, so the only reliable method is reading the specific course page for the specific institution.

Check requirements directly with each university your child is considering, including UAE institutions, rather than relying on a summary. IB Gram does not perform or accelerate Ministry of Education equivalency, and no verified IB points threshold for equivalency is published on ministry sources, so ask moe.gov.ae or your school registrar for that rather than any tutoring page.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics marks leave from a small number of identifiable places. These are the areas Al Rashidiya families ask about, written so you can match a tutor's claim against the course your child is actually sitting.

Theme A: space, time and motion

SL and HL

Kinematics, forces, momentum, work and energy, circular motion and, at Higher Level, rotational dynamics and relativity. Students lose marks by treating problems as formula lookups rather than as free-body diagrams, and the fix is a drawing habit enforced weekly rather than a new explanation.

Theme B: the particulate nature of matter

SL and HL

Thermal physics, the gas laws, the kinetic model and thermodynamics with the Higher Level extensions. The recurring loss is confusing heat and temperature in extended-response answers, and failing to state the assumptions a model rests on when the question asks for them.

Theme C: wave behaviour

SL and HL

Oscillations, travelling waves, standing waves, resonance, superposition and diffraction, with simple harmonic motion treated far more formally at Higher Level. Phase relationships are where students who can do the algebra still lose marks, because the physical picture never formed.

Theme D: fields

SL and HL

Gravitational, electric and magnetic fields, potential, induction and circuits. This is the theme that most often breaks a Higher Level student, because it demands holding three analogous field models in mind at once and not mixing their equations under pressure.

Theme E: nuclear and quantum physics

SL and HL

Radioactive decay, nuclear binding, fission and fusion, the photoelectric effect and, at Higher Level, deeper quantum and particle content. Marks here are often the cheapest on the paper, because the questions are structured and the content is finite, yet it is the theme students revise last.

Higher Level extensions

HL only

The additional depth running through every theme rather than sitting in a separate block. A tutor who teaches Standard Level content and adds a few harder questions is not teaching Higher Level, and the difference shows up in extended-response marks rather than in recall.

Uncertainty, error and data analysis

SL and HL

Absolute and percentage uncertainty, propagation through a calculation, significant figures, and the graph work that turns a relationship into a straight line. Examined inside the papers and central to the investigation, and almost never taught properly at IGCSE, which is why it dominates early DP1 tutoring.

Graph linearisation and gradient interpretation

SL and HL

Rearranging a relationship so a plot is linear, then reading physics out of a gradient and an intercept. It is a mechanical skill with a high mark yield across both papers and the investigation, and it responds to six worked examples rather than to a lecture.

The scientific investigation

SL and HL

An independent piece of experimental or data-based physics carrying twenty per cent of the final grade, assessed against published criteria. A tutor may teach the criteria, question a draft and point out an unsupported claim. A tutor may not write, draft or complete any part of it.

Extended-response technique

SL and HL

Writing to the command term, stating assumptions, referring to a named law rather than describing it vaguely, and answering the question that was set. A term of weekly correction on this moves marks without covering a single new piece of content.

Mathematics support for physics

SL and HL

Logarithms, trigonometry, small-angle approximations, vectors and rearrangement. Students on Applications and Interpretation frequently need this more than they need physics teaching, and separating the two diagnoses the real problem rather than treating the symptom.

IGCSE physics foundations

Pre-Diploma

Where a DP1 problem usually started. Circuits, moments, and the habit of substituting numbers before rearranging are the three things most often carried forward from 0625 or 4PH1 and most often worth three sessions of unpicking.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways Al Rashidiya families use IB physics support, all delivered as live one-to-one video lessons in Gulf Standard Time.

Weekly one-to-one alongside the school's teaching

One sixty-minute lesson a week through DP1 and DP2, following the school's own order through the themes rather than running a parallel course. In a small-cohort subject this is the version that matters most, because a student who loses the thread in Theme D has limited classroom slack to recover it and the next theme assumes the one before.

  • Follows the school's sequence through Themes A to E
  • Same tutor and slot every week, set from the arrival home
  • Protects the investigation timeline by being there when it starts
  • Written note after each lesson naming the topic and the practice

Theme-targeted block

Six to ten sessions aimed at one theme, bought once rather than monthly. Theme D is the commonest request and the most justified, since fields demand holding three analogous models apart under pressure. Uncertainty and graph work is the second commonest, and is usually best bought in the first term of DP1 rather than before the final papers.

  • One theme or one skill per block, agreed before starting
  • Built from past questions and data-analysis items
  • Fixed number of sessions with a visible finish
  • No rolling commitment afterwards

Investigation method coaching

Sessions on the scientific investigation: what the published criteria reward, how to choose a research question with enough physics in it, how to handle uncertainty honestly, and how to reflect on a method's limits. The tutor teaches method and responds to the student's own drafts with questions. No part of the submission is written, drafted or edited to completion by us.

  • Criteria explained and modelled on a different example
  • Research-question choice treated as the decisive step
  • Feedback given as questions the student must answer
  • Started early in DP1, not in the term it is due

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Rashidiya

01

The arithmetic of finding a Higher Level physics specialist near here

  • 227 private schools in Dubai, with the IB at roughly seven per cent of enrolment
  • Physics is a minority Diploma choice, and Higher Level a minority within it
  • A physics graduate, a teacher of an older syllabus and a general science tutor are three different purchases
  • Matching by course rather than by district is what makes a real specialist reachable here

Work it through rather than taking it on trust. Dubai has 227 private schools as of 2024-25, of which the International Baccalaureate accounts for roughly seven per cent of student enrolment against thirty-seven per cent on a UK curriculum. Al Rashidiya contains none of them; its Diploma students travel to the Garhoud or Mirdif clusters. Within a Diploma cohort, physics is a minority choice, and within physics, Higher Level is a minority again.

Now add the constraint that actually bites. You need not merely a physics graduate but somebody who has taught the current guide, with its five themes and its Higher Level extensions, through to a final examination, and who is free at the hour your child is home from a Mirdif bus route. Each condition cuts the pool by a large factor, and the conditions multiply rather than add.

The usual commercial response is to blur the distinction and send whoever is available. A physics graduate is not a physics teacher; a physics teacher who last taught the previous syllabus is teaching a course your child is not sitting; and a general science tutor is not a Higher Level physicist. All three will fill the hour, and the student will not be able to tell you which one they had.

Our response is to widen the pool rather than lower the bar. Matching on the course and teaching one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time means the question becomes who has taught this guide, not who lives within twenty minutes of the airport tunnel. For a subject this narrow, that is not a compromise. It is the only way a family in this district gets a genuine specialist at all.

02

What is actually in the course your child is sitting

The current IB Physics course is organised into five themes rather than the topic-and-option structure some tutors will remember, and the Higher Level material runs through the themes rather than sitting in a separate block at the end. That structural point matters when you are judging a tutor, because it is the first thing somebody working from an older syllabus gets wrong.

The table sets the themes out with what each one demands and where students typically lose marks. Read it with your child's current grade in mind. A student scoring well on Themes A and B and poorly on D is not a weak physicist; they have hit the theme that requires holding gravitational, electric and magnetic field models apart without merging their equations, and that is a specific, teachable problem rather than a general one.

Across all five themes the same two skills decide the extended-response marks: stating the assumptions a model rests on, and answering the command term that was actually used. A student who writes everything they know about fields in response to a question asking them to explain one thing is losing marks they already earned by learning the content.

Confirm the current structure and theme content with your school's IB coordinator before planning around it. Subject guides are revised, and a tutoring page is not a syllabus. We also do not reproduce or supply IB subject guides; those belong to the IB and reach you properly through the school.

03

The components, and where a physics grade is actually decided

Physics is assessed through written papers plus the scientific investigation, which carries twenty per cent of the final grade. Paper 1 is split into a multiple-choice section and a data-analysis section, and that second section is the one families overlook most consistently, because it rewards a skill rather than knowledge.

The distribution of tutoring effort that works is counter-intuitive. Families ask for more content because the content feels like the problem. The marks, though, cluster around technique: reading uncertainty properly, linearising a relationship so a gradient means something, stating the assumption behind a model, and writing to the command term. All four are mechanical, all four respond to weekly correction, and none of them requires covering new physics.

Data analysis deserves singling out. A student who can propagate percentage uncertainty through a calculation and justify the number of significant figures in an answer is collecting marks across every paper and setting themselves up for the investigation at the same time. A student who quotes an uncertainty because the textbook did is losing the same marks repeatedly without ever being told why.

Confirm weightings, durations and the current component structure with your school's IB coordinator rather than from any third-party page, this one included. The pattern in the table is reliable; the precise percentages are the school's to give you.

One further habit decides more marks than any single topic, and it is almost free to build. Physics examiners award credit for a stated assumption, a named law and a visible step, so a student who writes "assuming air resistance is negligible" or "by conservation of momentum" before the arithmetic keeps marks that a student working silently loses the moment a number goes astray. That is behaviour rather than knowledge. It is corrected weekly for a term and then it is permanent, which makes it the single best use of a recurring slot early in DP1.

04

Six questions that prove a tutor has taught this course

  • Name the five themes, and say what sits inside Theme D
  • Explain what the Higher Level extension adds within a theme
  • Describe what the data-analysis section of Paper 1 demands
  • Say where your students lose marks in Theme C and how you fix it
  • State plainly what you will not do with the scientific investigation
  • Show me the written note you send a parent after a lesson

A parent with no physics can still test a physics tutor, because the answers to these questions are either specific or evasive and the difference is audible. Run them on the trial lesson rather than beforehand, with your child in the room and a past question open.

The first three are about the course. Which themes does the current guide run, and what sits in Theme D? What does the Higher Level extension add inside a theme rather than at the end? What does the data-analysis section of Paper 1 actually ask a student to do? Somebody who has taught this answers each in a sentence. Somebody working from an older syllabus hesitates, or describes options and a Paper 3 that the current structure does not have.

The second three are about teaching. Where do your students lose marks in Theme C, and what do you do about it? What will you refuse to do with my child's investigation? What will you send me after each lesson? The third of these is the most revealing, because a tutor who writes a specific note every week has to actually know what happened in the lesson.

Ignore examiner claims unless they can be evidenced. Examiner status is asserted loosely in this market and is often used to imply access to marking standards or boundaries that nobody has. What you can verify is the teaching, in forty minutes, with a past question in front of your child.

05

The maths problem hiding inside a physics problem

A large share of Diploma physics difficulty is not physics. It is algebra that was never made automatic, trigonometry held loosely, logarithms half remembered, and the habit of substituting numbers immediately instead of rearranging symbolically. A tutor who treats every wrong answer as a physics gap will teach content for a term and move nothing.

The mathematics course a student is taking makes this predictable. Analysis and Approaches builds the symbolic fluency physics assumes; Applications and Interpretation is a serious course but routes that fluency differently, and a physics student on AI frequently needs explicit algebra support that nobody has flagged. Neither course is wrong, and the two produce different physics students.

The diagnosis is quick. Give the student a standard physics problem and watch what they do in the first ten seconds. If they rearrange the equation before substituting, the physics is the issue. If they put numbers in straight away and get stuck when a quantity is unknown, the algebra is the issue, and three sessions on rearrangement will do more than ten on fields.

Say the maths course when you contact us. It changes the shortlist, because a tutor comfortable teaching the algebra alongside the physics is a different person from one who assumes it is already there.

There is one mathematical skill neither course supplies, and it is worth knowing about before you hear a tutor claim otherwise. Uncertainty propagation, significant-figure justification and the reasoning behind quoting a result to a particular precision are not taught in Analysis and Approaches or in Applications and Interpretation. They belong to physics, they appear in the papers and in the investigation, and every DP1 student arrives without them. A tutor who assumes that ground is covered has mistaken what a mathematics course does, and your child will lose the same marks every week until somebody notices.

06

The scientific investigation, and the twenty per cent nobody plans for

  • The research question decides the mark ceiling more than the writing does
  • Four early sessions typically cost less than one late rescue block
  • Feedback must arrive as questions, never as text to paste
  • Uncertainty treated honestly is a criteria asset, not a formality

The investigation carries twenty per cent of the physics grade and is assessed against published criteria. Almost everything that determines the mark is decided before any writing happens, in the choice of research question. A question with too little physics in it has no route to the higher bands no matter how carefully the report is written, and no tutor can retrofit depth into a thin question in the final fortnight.

Cheap to protect, expensive to rescue. Four sessions early in DP1 cover what the criteria reward, how to choose a question with real physics and measurable variables, how to handle uncertainty honestly rather than decoratively, and how to reflect on a method's limitations in a way the criteria recognise. Buying help in the last three weeks costs more, arrives at exam-year rates, and cannot change the question.

The boundary is absolute and this is the place in physics tutoring where the market behaves worst. A tutor may explain the criteria, model method on a different investigation, ask questions about the student's own draft and point out where a conclusion is not supported by the data. A tutor may not write, draft, rewrite or edit to completion any part of the submission. One page in the researched competitor set sells completed Internal Assessments outright; that is a malpractice route and the student carries the finding.

A parent can police this without reading the physics. Ask to see the feedback. If it reads as sentences your child could paste into the report, the line has been crossed. If it reads as questions they have to go and answer, it has not.

07

What the market charges for Higher Level science, and what the travel premium buys

This section exists because the physics quote a family receives is usually at the top of the Dubai range and nobody explains why. The reason is scarcity rather than effort: there are fewer people who can teach Higher Level physics than who can teach Standard Level maths, and the market prices that.

Look at the travel premium first, because it is the clearest thing on the table. In-home one to one in Dubai is quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online. The gap is a car journey. In this corridor it is a car journey through Algeria Street or the Garhoud interchange between 3pm and 6pm, and it is worth asking what else the same money buys. Spent on scarcity instead of on travel, it buys a genuine Higher Level specialist rather than whichever physics teacher lives nearest.

The rest of the bands, each read on the provider's own public page: EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to 65 an hour for budget online tutoring, Tutopiya's published panel starts lower, Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200, TutorChase quotes AED 270, Bestimate's Dubai table runs AED 200 to 450 and above for specialists, and BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end. Monthly packages seen locally sit around AED 799 for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four in-home sessions of two hours.

None of those is an IB Gram rate and we publish no rate card on these pages. What the table is for is calibration: if you are quoted below the qualified-tutor band for Higher Level physics, ask what you are actually getting, and if you are quoted above the premium band, ask what justifies it.

Practical work, and why a tutor in the room is not the answer

  • Laboratory work, apparatus and safety supervision are the school's responsibility
  • Method design before the experiment and analysis afterwards are both screen work
  • The data-analysis section rewards interpreting data a student did not collect
  • Where hands-on support is genuinely needed we say so and point elsewhere

Parents reasonably ask how a physics student is supported online when physics involves apparatus. The answer is that the apparatus is the school's job and always was. Your child's laboratory work, equipment, safety supervision and recorded data come from the school, and no tutor in a Dubai villa is bringing an oscilloscope.

What a tutor adds sits either side of the bench. Before: designing a sensible method, identifying which variables need controlling and why, deciding what range of readings will produce a usable graph. After: handling the uncertainty, linearising the relationship, interpreting the gradient, and writing an evaluation that identifies real limitations rather than ritual ones. Both halves are screen work, and a shared screen with the student's own data open is in several respects better than sitting side by side.

The data-analysis section of Paper 1 makes this concrete. It asks students to work with experimental data they did not collect, which is exactly the skill a well-run online session practises. A student who has spent a term interpreting somebody else's results on a shared screen walks into that section with the right habit already formed.

Where physical presence genuinely matters is a student with a diagnosed need requiring hands-on support. In that case we will say so rather than take the booking, and recommend a local provider with a verifiable MoHRE private tuition permit. IB Gram does not place tutors in UAE homes under any circumstances.

The practical setup is worth five minutes of planning. A physics lesson needs a desk, paper, a calculator, the student's own lab notebook and a laptop on a stable surface rather than a phone held in one hand. Graph work and free-body diagrams happen on paper and get held up to the camera, which works perfectly well and works better if the camera is not moving. Households in this corridor are busy in the early evening, so a door that closes is worth more to the hour than anything else a family can provide.

09

Starting, and the availability we will be honest about

Send four things: the level, Standard or Higher; which themes the school has covered so far; the mathematics course your child is taking; and a photograph of a marked paper or test. Those four turn matching from guesswork into a short list. The mathematics course is the one families leave out and the one that most often explains the problem.

The trial lesson is free, runs about forty minutes on a past question, and is a lesson rather than a sales call. Afterwards you receive a written read on whether the difficulty is physics, mathematics or technique, with the number of weeks each implies. Nothing is owed if you stop there and no card details are taken.

Higher Level physics is the subject where we most often have to tell a family that nobody suitable is free at the hour they want. Late-evening Gulf Standard Time slots fill first, and a Theme D specialist requested a fortnight before final papers may simply not be available. We will give a realistic match time rather than filling the slot with a general science tutor, because the wrong tutor in the right hour costs a family the fee and the weeks.

What we ask for is limited to what matching needs: level, themes covered, maths course, school if you want its sequence followed, and a contact for scheduling. We do not need a photograph of your child or a full grade history. UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 governs the data we hold and the privacy link on this page sets out what is kept and how to have it removed.

Where we tutor

Where a Diploma physics student near Al Rashidiya actually studies

Physics is a small-cohort subject, which means the practical question is not which district has tutors but which districts your child's school and classmates are spread across. Here is that geography.

Al Garhoud

The nearest cluster and the first direction an Al Rashidiya Diploma family looks. Short run north, and the easiest direction in which to hold an early-evening lesson slot through a full term.

Mirdif

East along Algeria Street, home to the nearest IB continuum provision. Bus routes from here run long, which pushes a workable physics slot towards 5.30pm or later for most students.

Al Mizhar

Villa communities beyond Mirdif sharing schools and bus routes with Al Rashidiya households. Diploma cohorts drawn from here are small enough that students often know every other physics candidate in their year.

Al Qusais

North-east across Damascus Street, with large secondary cohorts though fewer Diploma Programme places than the Garhoud direction. Afternoon traffic rather than distance sets the arrival time.

Nad Al Hamar

Directly south on quieter roads, the fastest run in the corridor. Useful to know when a younger sibling attends school here and the household needs two different lesson slots.

Dubai Festival City

North-west through the Garhoud interchange, the least predictable point in the eastern city between 3pm and 6pm. A ten-minute difference leaving school can mean half an hour at home.

Al Warqa

South-east with the longest school runs here. Physics is a poor subject to attempt with a tired student, so a later evening or weekend-morning slot consistently outperforms a 5pm one for these families.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

Further out along Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, with secondary provision drawing from across the eastern suburbs and a journey that lengthens considerably during the school window.

Dubai International Academic City

South-east, where several university campuses sit. Relevant to a physics student mainly because it is where engineering foundation routes are discussed, and worth visiting before Higher Level choices are finalised.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Rashidiya

Diploma Programme provision reachable from Al Rashidiya

The schools an Al Rashidiya student is most likely to sit IB Physics at, reached north towards Al Garhoud or east towards Mirdif. Diploma cohorts here are small by Dubai standards, which gives excellent continuity and very little slack when a student falls behind mid-theme. Students we support attend schools in this group.

  • Uptown International School
  • Deira International School
  • Al Mawakeb School, Al Garhoud
  • GEMS Royal Dubai School

British and American curriculum schools feeding Diploma science routes

Where the IGCSE and MYP students who later cross into Diploma physics are currently enrolled. The crossing is where uncertainty analysis, graph linearisation and symbolic rearrangement have to be built, because none of the three is drilled before it. Students we support attend schools across this cluster.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Say Standard or Higher, and which themes are done

The level and the school's progress through Themes A to E together tell a specialist where your child is in the course. A student struggling in Theme D needs a different conversation from one struggling in Theme A, and the difference is visible from this answer alone.

  2. 02

    Name the mathematics course

Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, and at which level. This single fact predicts whether the real problem is physics or algebra more reliably than any description of the difficulty, and it changes which tutor we shortlist.

  3. 03

    Send a marked paper

A photograph of a marked test or mock shows a physics specialist the pattern in two minutes: free-body diagrams missing, uncertainty quoted rather than propagated, command terms unanswered, or genuine content gaps in one theme.

  4. 04

Set the slot from the arrival home

Garhoud-direction families can usually hold 4.30pm; Mirdif, Al Mizhar and Al Warqa bus routes need 5.30pm or later. Physics is a poor subject to attempt with a tired student, so build in recovery time rather than optimism.

  5. 05

    Take the free trial lesson

Forty minutes on a past question, with your child working and the tutor teaching. Ask the tutor to name what sits in Theme D and what they will refuse to do with the investigation. Then read the written note that follows.

  6. 06

Review at six lessons against marks

Against marks on the question types that were going wrong, not against how the lessons felt. If the pattern has not shifted we change the tutor or the approach rather than asking for more time and more money.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to the current guide, not a remembered one

The course runs five themes with Higher Level extensions inside each. A tutor working from an older structure will teach real physics your child is not examined on, and the student will never know. We match on the guide they are actually sitting.

The scarcity is acknowledged, not hidden

The IB is roughly seven per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment and Higher Level physics is a minority within that. Pretending a deep local pool exists near Al Rashidiya would be a lie; matching by course over live video is how a real specialist becomes reachable.

Maths is diagnosed before physics is taught

A large share of Diploma physics difficulty is unmade algebra. We ask for the mathematics course first and test rearrangement before assuming a content gap, because three sessions on symbolic manipulation often outperform ten on fields.

Every AED figure is attributed and checkable

Each rate here was read on the provider's own public page and credited to them, and none is an IB Gram price. Three of the best-ranking pages on these queries publish no price at all, and a number you can verify is worth more than one you are asked to accept.

The investigation is coached, never written

A tutor explains the criteria, models method on a different investigation and questions the student's draft. No part of a submission is drafted or edited to completion by us. One page in this search result sells finished Internal Assessments; the student bears that risk alone.

Coverage limits said out loud

Higher Level physics at short notice, or a Theme D specialist in a late-evening slot, is sometimes unavailable. We give a realistic match time rather than filling the hour with a general science tutor, which costs us bookings and saves families terms.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Rashidiya: your questions answered

Realistically, can I find an IB physics tutor living near Al Rashidiya?+

Probably not one who has taught the current course at Higher Level. Al Rashidiya has no secondary school; Diploma provision sits in the Garhoud and Mirdif clusters, and the IB accounts for roughly seven per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment against thirty-seven per cent on a UK curriculum. Physics is a minority Diploma choice and Higher Level a minority within that, so the local pool is genuinely tiny before you check who is free at 5.30pm. Matching by course over live video is what makes a real specialist reachable here.

How do I tell whether a physics tutor knows the current syllabus?+

Ask them to name the themes and say what sits inside Theme D. The current guide runs five themes, A to E, with Higher Level extensions inside each rather than in a separate block at the end. Somebody who has taught it answers in a sentence. Somebody working from an older structure describes options and a third paper, which the current arrangement does not have. Then ask what the data-analysis section of Paper 1 demands; the answer separates a teacher of this course from a physics graduate.

Which theme causes the most trouble for Higher Level students?+

Theme D, fields, more often than any other. It asks a student to hold gravitational, electric and magnetic field models in mind simultaneously, keep their equations apart, and reason about potential as well as field strength. Under time pressure the three merge, and an answer that is individually correct for the wrong field earns nothing. It is a specific and teachable problem rather than a sign of general weakness, and a six-to-ten session block on that theme alone is a defensible purchase.

My child understands the physics but keeps getting the numbers wrong. What is happening?+

Usually the algebra, not the physics. Watch what they do in the first ten seconds of a problem: a student who rearranges the equation before substituting has a physics question to answer, while one who puts numbers in immediately and stalls when a quantity is unknown has an algebra problem wearing a physics costume. That pattern is commoner in students taking Applications and Interpretation, which routes mathematical fluency differently from Analysis and Approaches. Three sessions on symbolic rearrangement usually does more than ten on content.

How can physics be tutored online when it involves laboratory work?+

Because the apparatus was always the school's job. Your child's practical work, equipment, safety supervision and recorded data come from the school; no tutor in a Dubai villa is bringing laboratory kit. A tutor's value sits either side of the bench: designing a sensible method and choosing what to control beforehand, then handling uncertainty, linearising the relationship, reading the gradient and writing a real evaluation afterwards. Both halves are screen work, and the data-analysis section of Paper 1 asks for exactly that skill on data a student did not collect.

What does the scientific investigation actually require?+

An independent piece of experimental or data-based physics, assessed against published criteria and carrying twenty per cent of the final grade. The decisive step is the research question: one with too little physics in it has no route to the higher bands however well the report is written. Four sessions early in DP1 on criteria, question choice, honest uncertainty treatment and reflecting on method limits protects that twenty per cent cheaply. Confirm the current criteria and deadlines with your school's IB coordinator, since the school sets the internal timeline.

Can a tutor help with my child's physics investigation write-up?+

Only within a firm boundary. A tutor may explain the criteria, model method on a different investigation, ask questions about your child's draft and point out where a conclusion is not supported by the data. A tutor may not write, draft, rewrite or edit to completion any part of it. The test a parent can apply without reading the physics is the feedback itself: sentences your child could paste in mean the line has been crossed, questions they must go and answer mean it has not. Decline any offer to produce the work.

Is Standard Level physics a safer choice than Higher Level?+

Safer in workload, and potentially costly in options. Engineering, physics and some medicine-adjacent degrees commonly expect Higher Level physics, often alongside Analysis and Approaches, so dropping to Standard Level in DP1 for comfort can close a route the student later wants. Requirements vary by university and change between admission cycles, so read the specific course page at each institution your child is considering rather than relying on any summary. Make the decision on destination and evidence from marked papers, not on how DP1 feels in November.

Why is an IB physics quote higher than a maths quote in Dubai?+

Scarcity rather than effort. Fewer people can teach Higher Level physics on the current guide than can teach Standard Level mathematics, and the market prices that difference. Published Dubai rates put named IB and IGCSE specialists at roughly AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and BartyED at AED 650 at the premium end, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor online. None of those is an IB Gram price; each was read on the provider's own public page and can be checked there.

Would I be better off paying for an in-home physics tutor instead?+

You would be paying AED 180 to 500 an hour, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified tutor working online, and the difference is a car journey through Algeria Street or the Garhoud interchange between 3pm and 6pm. On a subject as narrow as Higher Level physics, that same premium spent on scarcity rather than travel buys a genuine specialist instead of the nearest available physics teacher. IB Gram does not sell home visits anywhere in the UAE; those are an India-only service, so the comparison here is between market options rather than between ours.

Which part of the physics course gives the quickest mark improvement?+

Data analysis and uncertainty, by a clear margin. Propagating percentage uncertainty through a calculation, justifying significant figures, and rearranging a relationship so a plot is linear are mechanical skills with a high mark yield across the papers and the investigation at once. Neither IGCSE nor either mathematics course teaches them properly, so almost every DP1 student arrives without them. Six worked examples move more marks than six hours of content teaching, which is why we test for this before anything else.

My child is moving from IGCSE Physics 0625 into the Diploma. What needs building first?+

Three things, in order: uncertainty and error analysis, graph linearisation, and the habit of manipulating an equation symbolically before substituting numbers. Cambridge 0625 and Pearson 4PH1 both leave students well drilled in recall and standard calculations and short on all three. A focused block of six to ten sessions in the summer before DP1 removes most of the first-term shock, and it costs considerably less than the remediation block families otherwise buy in November of DP1.

Should we book physics and maths with the same tutor?+

Usually not. Higher Level physics and Higher Level Analysis and Approaches are both specialisms, and a tutor strong in one is frequently average in the other. The combination is a scheduling convenience rather than a teaching advantage. Where the algebra is genuinely the physics problem, the right answer is a physics tutor who will drill rearrangement for three sessions before resuming content, not a second subject on the invoice. If both subjects truly need help, fix the one blocking a university route first.

You have no Theme D tutor open at our hour. Then what?+

We say so and give a realistic match time rather than putting a general science tutor in a specialist slot. This is the subject where it happens most often: late-evening Gulf Standard Time slots fill first, and a Theme D specialist requested a fortnight before final papers may genuinely not be available. If the wait does not fit your timeline we will tell you that too. A tutor who has not taught this guide will cost the fee and the weeks, and in DP2 the weeks cannot be bought back.

What should we send before the first physics lesson?+

Four things, none of which takes long. The level, Standard or Higher. Which themes the school has covered so far. The mathematics course your child is taking, with its level. And a photograph of a marked test or mock. Those four produce a short list rather than a guess, and the maths course is the item most families omit and the one that most often explains the difficulty. We do not need a photograph of your child or a full grade history; the privacy link explains what is held under UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021.

Test the tutor on the course, not on the commute

Higher Level physics is narrow enough that the local pool near Al Rashidiya is not a real pool, and no amount of searching by distance changes that. What you can do is test any candidate on the course itself: ask them to name the five themes, say what sits in Theme D, describe what the data-analysis section demands, and state what they will refuse to do with the scientific investigation. Those four answers tell you more than any profile. Send us the level, the themes covered, the mathematics course and a marked paper, pick a slot that allows for a bad traffic afternoon, and take the free trial lesson. You will leave it knowing whether the difficulty is physics, algebra or technique.
