IB Chemistry Tutor in Al Rashidiya

An IB chemistry tutor in Al Rashidiya has to fit into an evening that starts later than most families admit. The district has no secondary school, so its Diploma students ride north to Al Garhoud or east to Mirdif, and chemistry is the worst subject in the Diploma to attempt with a tired student. IB Gram teaches it one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, in a slot set from your child's real arrival home, with a free trial lesson first.

IB & IGCSE in Al Rashidiya

Chemistry is the subject the school run punishes most

Every Diploma subject suffers from a tired student, but chemistry suffers worst, and it is worth being precise about why. Chemistry is a two-layer subject: a conceptual layer that has to be understood, and a computational layer that has to be practised until it is automatic. Mole calculations, equilibrium expressions and energetics arithmetic are not things a student thinks through from first principles in an examination. They are things a student does, quickly, while thinking about something else. That kind of fluency is built by frequent short practice, and frequent short practice is exactly what a long school run destroys.

Al Rashidiya makes that concrete. The district sits between Dubai International Airport, Al Garhoud and Nad Al Hamar, and it contains no secondary school. Its Diploma students travel: a short run north into the Garhoud cluster, or east along Algeria Street and Tripoli Street towards Mirdif, where the nearest IB continuum provision sits. The eastern bus routes collect across several communities before heading back, and forty minutes once school finishes is an ordinary outcome rather than a bad day. A student home at 4.15pm, hot and hungry, is not going to balance a redox equation at 4.30pm.

So the scheduling question is not when is the tutor free. It is what the evening can actually hold. For most families on the eastern routes that means a lesson at 5.30pm or later, with the practice it sets placed on a different evening rather than on the same one. For Garhoud-direction families a 4.30pm slot is genuinely holdable. Getting this right is worth more to a chemistry grade over two years than any difference in tutor rate.

IB Gram's contribution is to take its own travel out of the equation. Lessons are one to one over live video in Gulf Standard Time, so nobody is leaving Mirdif at 4pm hoping to reach your gate by 4.30pm. Home visits are a service offered only in India; there is no UAE version. That removes the half of the scheduling problem that is nobody's to control and leaves the half you can measure with a stopwatch for a week.

There is a second reason the hour matters in chemistry specifically. The subject is sequential in a way that is unusually unforgiving: bonding sits on atomic structure, energetics sits on the mole, equilibrium sits on rates, and organic mechanisms sit on everything before them. A fortnight lost in October is not a fortnight of content to recover later; it is a foundation the next three topics are built on, and by February the student cannot tell you where the trouble started. A weekly hour that reliably happens is therefore worth far more than a longer hour that happens when the evening allows it.

The rest of this page covers what the current chemistry course actually contains, what an evening in this district can realistically absorb, the five kinds of mole calculation and where each one fails, the scientific investigation and when it has to start, and what the Dubai market charges with every figure attributed so you can check it.

At a glance

  • Al Rashidiya students sit the Diploma in the Al Garhoud and Mirdif clusters, not in the district
  • Eastern bus routes run around forty minutes once school finishes; Garhoud-direction runs are short
  • Chemistry needs frequent short practice, which is the first thing a long commute removes
  • The current guide is organised as Structure 1-3 and Reactivity 1-3, with Higher Level depth throughout
  • The scientific investigation carries twenty per cent and has to start in DP1
  • Lessons are live one-to-one video; no tutor attends a UAE address
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry trouble usually arrives in one of two places: the mole, or the transition from a recall-based course to one that asks why. These are the stages we cover either side of Diploma chemistry.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme Chemistry

Available at Standard and Higher Level. The current guide is organised around Structure, covering the particulate nature of matter, bonding and structure, and classification of matter, and Reactivity, covering what drives reactions, how much and how fast and how far, and the mechanisms of chemical change. Assessment is written papers plus a scientific investigation carrying twenty per cent. Confirm current detail with your school's IB coordinator.

An Al Rashidiya student sitting DP chemistry is most likely in the Garhoud or Mirdif clusters, where Diploma cohorts are small by Dubai standards. One chemistry teacher commonly carries both levels, which gives continuity and leaves very little room to recover a topic missed during a travel week. That is the specific gap weekly one-to-one support fills in this district.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme Sciences

Chemistry taught inside an integrated sciences course in most schools, assessed against criteria A to D. MYP builds investigation design and evaluation well, and builds the quantitative habit less well, because criterion-based tasks rarely demand the kind of repeated calculation Diploma chemistry assumes from the first weeks of DP1.

The MYP-to-DP chemistry step is the commonest reason a confident middle-school scientist stalls in DP1 locally. The content is reachable; the arithmetic is not, because converting between mass, moles and concentration at speed was never drilled. A short bridging block in the summer before DP1 is worth more than a term of content teaching afterwards.

PREAges 15-16 · Year 11 into Year 12

IGCSE Chemistry into Diploma Chemistry

The crossing most Dubai students make, given that UK-curriculum schools dominate enrolment. Cambridge 0620 and Pearson 4CH1 leave students solid on the reactivity series, on tests for ions and on standard equations, and short on equilibrium reasoning, on energetics as a quantitative subject and on explaining a mechanism rather than reciting a product.

A student moving from a British-curriculum school in Mirdif or Al Qusais into a Diploma Programme in Al Garhoud is a routine local case. The three things that reliably need building in that first term are moles at speed, the language of equilibrium, and the discipline of explaining why a reaction goes rather than stating that it does.

Medicine, dentistry and science routes

What Higher Level chemistry is usually for. Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, biochemistry and chemical engineering commonly expect it, frequently alongside biology or mathematics at a specified level. Requirements vary between universities and between admission cycles, so the only reliable method is reading each specific course page rather than relying on a general rule.

Check requirements directly with every university your child is considering, UAE institutions included, rather than trusting a summary. IB Gram does not perform, guarantee or accelerate Ministry of Education equivalency, and no verified IB points threshold for equivalency is published on ministry sources, so ask moe.gov.ae or your school registrar rather than any tutoring page.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Chemistry marks leave from a short list of identifiable places, and most of them are computational rather than conceptual. These are the areas Al Rashidiya families ask about most.

Structure 1: models of the particulate nature of matter

SL and HL

The mole, atomic structure, electron configuration and the ideal gas treatment. This is where a Diploma chemistry grade is quietly decided, because every later calculation sits on mole fluency, and a student who is slow here is slow everywhere afterwards.

Structure 2: models of bonding and structure

SL and HL

Ionic, covalent and metallic bonding, intermolecular forces and the structure-property link. Students lose marks by naming a force without explaining its consequence, and at Higher Level by not distinguishing clearly between the strength of a bond and the strength of the forces between molecules.

Structure 3: classification of matter

SL and HL

Periodicity, trends down a group and across a period, and the chemistry of transition elements at Higher Level. Reliable marks are available here because the patterns are finite, and they are routinely lost to explanations that describe a trend rather than accounting for it.

Reactivity 1: what drives chemical reactions

SL and HL

Energetics and thermodynamics: enthalpy changes, Hess cycles, bond enthalpies and, at Higher Level, entropy and spontaneity. The common loss is sign errors in a Hess cycle, which is an arithmetic discipline rather than a conceptual gap and responds quickly to practice.

Reactivity 2: how much, how fast and how far

SL and HL

Reaction rates, equilibrium and acid-base chemistry, with equilibrium constants and buffers treated far more quantitatively at Higher Level. Equilibrium is the single biggest conceptual hurdle in the course, because it requires reasoning about a dynamic system rather than a fixed outcome.

Reactivity 3: mechanisms of chemical change

SL and HL

Redox, electrochemistry and organic mechanisms. Organic chemistry rewards memory and pattern recognition; redox rewards a method followed every time. Students who half-learn both lose marks in two places rather than one, so sequencing matters here.

Mole calculations at speed

SL and HL

Mass to moles, moles to concentration, gas volumes, limiting reagents and percentage yield. Five related calculations that must become automatic. This is the highest-yield tutoring work in the subject and the part students most consistently decline to practise.

Organic chemistry and mechanisms

SL and HL

Functional groups, reaction types and, at Higher Level, curly-arrow mechanisms and stereochemistry. Marks are lost to incomplete arrows and to missing intermediates rather than to not knowing the product, which makes it a drawing discipline as much as a chemical one.

Data analysis and uncertainty

SL and HL

Percentage uncertainty, propagation through a titration calculation, and significant figures justified rather than copied. Examined inside the papers and central to the investigation, and taught properly by neither IGCSE nor either mathematics course.

The scientific investigation

SL and HL

An independent piece of experimental or data-based chemistry carrying twenty per cent of the grade, assessed against published criteria. A tutor may teach the criteria, question a draft and point out an unsupported conclusion. A tutor may not write, draft or complete any part of it.

Extended-response technique

SL and HL

Answering the command term, writing an explanation rather than a description, and using chemical language precisely. A term of weekly correction here moves marks without covering any new chemistry, which makes it the cheapest work available late in the course.

IGCSE chemistry foundations

Pre-Diploma

Where a DP1 problem usually began. Mole arithmetic that was always done with a calculator and a formula triangle, and equations balanced by inspection rather than by method, are the two habits most often worth unpicking in the first three sessions.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of chemistry support, all delivered as live one-to-one video lessons in Gulf Standard Time, and all scheduled from the arrival home rather than from a default hour.

Weekly lesson plus a separate practice evening

The arrangement chemistry actually needs. One sixty-minute lesson on a fixed weekday, and twenty to thirty minutes of set calculation practice on a different evening, chosen because it is genuinely free rather than because it looks free on a timetable. Splitting the two is the whole point: chemistry fluency comes from frequency, and a single long session the night before a test builds none of it.

  • Lesson day and practice day deliberately separated
  • Practice named specifically in the written note, not left vague
  • Slot set from the real arrival home with recovery time
  • Follows the school's order through Structure and Reactivity

Weekend morning for the long-commute families

For students on the Al Mizhar, Al Warqa or Al Khawaneej routes, a Saturday or Sunday morning lesson consistently outperforms a weekday evening one. Chemistry is unusually sensitive to this because the computational work needs a clear head, and the comparison is not an hour against an hour but a rested student against an exhausted one.

  • A clear head for the calculation-heavy parts of the course
  • Weekday evenings left for school homework and set practice
  • Easier to protect through exam terms and mock windows
  • Works well for siblings booked consecutively

Topic block or investigation coaching

Six to ten sessions aimed at one thing. The three most justified are equilibrium and acid-base chemistry, organic mechanisms before the final series, and investigation method early in DP1. Each has a defined objective and a visible finish, which makes it easy for a parent to judge whether it worked.

  • One topic or one skill per block, agreed in advance
  • Built from past questions and real data sets
  • Investigation work is criteria and feedback only, never drafting
  • Finishes and stops with no rolling commitment

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Rashidiya

01

What a forty-minute bus actually does to a chemistry evening

Take a student at a Mirdif school, living in Al Rashidiya, on a collecting bus. School finishes, the bus loads, it works its way through several communities and back along Algeria Street, and the student is dropped near home somewhere around four. Add the walk and the bag on the floor and it is 4.15pm. That is the actual start of the evening, and everything a family schedules has to fit after it.

What a fifteen-year-old can absorb in the first half hour of that evening is close to nothing, and chemistry is the subject least tolerant of being attempted there. A balanced redox half-equation or a limiting-reagent calculation needs working memory, and working memory is the first thing a hot bus takes. A lesson that begins at 4.30pm spends its first ten minutes on the student arriving in the room rather than in the chemistry, and over a term that is real money.

The table below is the version we schedule from. Notice what it does not say: it does not say teenagers are lazy or that families should try harder. It says an evening has a shape, and a chemistry plan that respects the shape delivers more than one that fights it. Garhoud-direction families get the easy version of this and should take it; eastern-route families should accept a later slot rather than a failing earlier one.

The honest conclusion for some households is that weekday evenings do not work at all. If your child is on an Al Warqa or Al Khawaneej route and home at half past four flattened, a weekend morning is the right purchase and the cost is a piece of the weekend. Most long-route families reach that conclusion anyway, usually after a term of trying the alternative.

What is actually in the chemistry course now

The current IB Chemistry guide is organised into two halves rather than the numbered-topic-plus-options arrangement some tutors will remember. Structure covers the particulate nature of matter, bonding and structure, and the classification of matter. Reactivity covers what drives chemical reactions, how much and how fast and how far, and the mechanisms of chemical change. Higher Level depth runs inside those topics rather than sitting in a separate block.

That structural point is the first test of a tutor. Somebody who has taught this course describes it in those terms without hesitating. Somebody working from an older syllabus describes numbered topics and an options paper, which will still be chemistry and will still spend your child's revision time on a structure they are not examined against.

Read the table with your child's current marks in mind. Strong on Structure and weak on Reactivity 2 is not a weak chemist; it is a student who has hit equilibrium, which asks for reasoning about a dynamic system rather than a fixed outcome and is the single biggest conceptual hurdle in the subject. That is specific and teachable, and a six-to-ten session block on it is a defensible purchase.

Confirm the current structure, topic content and weightings with your school's IB coordinator before planning around them. Subject guides are revised and a tutoring page is not a syllabus. We also do not reproduce or supply IB subject guides or past papers; those belong to the IB and reach you properly through the school.

The five mole calculations, and where each one fails

If a parent takes one practical thing from this page, take this. Almost every disappointing Diploma chemistry mark traces back to mole arithmetic that is understood but not automatic. The student can explain the method and cannot execute it in forty seconds, so a four-mark calculation eats three minutes and the paper runs out before the extended responses.

There are five related calculations that have to become reflexive, and they are listed in the table with the specific failure attached to each. The failures are not conceptual. They are procedural: a unit not converted, a ratio read off the wrong species, a yield compared against the wrong theoretical mass. Each one responds to repetition and to nothing else.

This is why the weekly rhythm on this page separates the lesson from the practice. Twenty minutes of mixed mole questions on a Tuesday and a Thursday builds fluency; ninety minutes the night before a test does not. A tutor can teach the method once and then spend a term checking that the practice is happening and correcting the pattern in the errors, which is unglamorous work and the highest-yield work available in the subject.

Ask any prospective chemistry tutor how they handle this. The answer tells you whether they have taught the course under examination conditions or only explained it. Somebody who has will talk about timing and about mixed practice sets. Somebody who has not will offer to explain moles again.

04

The scientific investigation, and the term it has to start in

  • The research question sets the mark ceiling; the writing cannot raise it afterwards
  • Travelling households should start earlier, not later, because a lost fortnight is survivable in DP1
  • Four early sessions on criteria and question choice protect twenty per cent of the grade
  • Feedback arrives as questions; any offer to produce the work should end the conversation

The investigation carries twenty per cent of the chemistry grade and is assessed against published criteria. The mark is largely decided before any writing happens, by the research question: one with too little chemistry in it, or with variables that cannot be measured properly in a school laboratory, has no route to the higher bands however well the report is written.

The timing matters more in this district than most, because the households here travel. A family with a parent on airport-adjacent shifts or frequent trips will lose a fortnight somewhere, and a fortnight lost from a last-minute investigation is fatal where the same fortnight lost from an early one is survivable. Starting the criteria conversation in DP1 is both cheaper and more robust.

Four sessions typically cover it: what the criteria actually reward, how to choose a question with measurable variables and real chemistry in it, how to treat uncertainty honestly rather than decoratively, and how to write an evaluation that identifies genuine limitations. After that the student works and the tutor responds to drafts with questions.

The boundary is absolute. A tutor may explain criteria, model method on a different investigation, question a draft and point out an unsupported conclusion. A tutor may not write, draft, rewrite or edit to completion any part of the submission. One page in the researched competitor set sells completed Internal Assessments at a fixed price; that is a malpractice route and the student carries the finding, not the seller. Ask to see the feedback: questions your child must answer are correct, sentences they could paste in are not.

What a Diploma chemistry hour costs in this market

Three of the six best-ranking pages on these searches publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars. Here is the dirham version, with each figure read on the provider's own public page so you can open it and check rather than take our word for it.

A parent choosing on budget usually works upward from the bottom. EdFlik advertises budget online tutoring from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya's published panel starts lower again, which is a genuine service for MYP science consolidation and thin for Higher Level chemistry. Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Named IB and IGCSE specialists run roughly AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270 and Bestimate's Dubai table reaching the top of that band. BartyED publishes AED 650 at the premium end.

The in-home band is separate and higher for a reason that has nothing to do with chemistry: AED 180 to 500 an hour, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified tutor working online, because the rate carries a round trip through the Garhoud interchange or Algeria Street in the afternoon. Monthly packages seen locally run around AED 799 for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four in-home sessions of two hours, and those two numbers describe different products rather than different prices.

None of this is an IB Gram rate and we publish no rate card on these pages. The number for your child's level and arrangement comes out of the free trial lesson and the conversation after it. What the table gives you is a way to tell whether the quote in your inbox is inside the market or outside it.

Laboratory work, and what a tutor adds either side of the bench

  • Practical work, reagents and safety supervision are the school's responsibility
  • Method design beforehand and data analysis afterwards are both screen work
  • Written assessment rewards interpreting data the student did not collect
  • Where hands-on support is genuinely required we say so and point elsewhere

Chemistry involves apparatus, and parents reasonably ask how that is handled when lessons are online. The answer is that the apparatus was always the school's responsibility. Your child's practical work, reagents, safety supervision and recorded results come from the school, and nobody is setting up a titration in an Al Rashidiya villa.

A tutor's contribution sits before and after. Before: designing a method that will actually produce usable data, deciding which variables to control and why, choosing a concentration range that gives readings worth plotting. After: handling the uncertainty, propagating it through the calculation, interpreting the gradient, and writing an evaluation that identifies real limitations instead of ritual ones. Both halves are screen work and both are better with the student's own data open on a shared screen.

The data-analysis part of the written assessment makes this concrete, because it asks students to work with experimental data they did not collect. A student who has spent a term interpreting results on a shared screen has exactly the habit that section rewards, which is one of several places where online delivery is an advantage rather than a compromise.

Where physical presence genuinely matters is a student with a diagnosed need requiring hands-on support. We will say so rather than take the booking and will point you towards a local provider with a verifiable MoHRE private tuition permit. IB Gram does not place tutors in UAE homes under any circumstances; home visits are an India-only service.

07

The calendar: Ramadan, holidays and travel weeks

  • Agree the Ramadan slot shift before Ramadan, not during it
  • Holiday weeks suit a short block on one topic better than a limping weekly slot
  • Lessons follow the student if the slot moves; no address is involved
  • A four-week gap in a fluency subject costs more than the four sessions missed

A chemistry plan that ignores the shape of the UAE academic year loses weeks it never budgeted for, and in a fluency subject those weeks cost more than the sessions missed. Three periods need planning rather than improvising.

During Ramadan school days are shortened and household routines move towards the evening. A 5.30pm slot that works in October is usually wrong then, and a post-iftar lesson is usually right. Because no tutor is travelling, the change costs a message. Families who agree the shift before Ramadan starts keep their continuity; those who improvise tend to lose three or four weeks and restart from a worse position.

School holidays cut differently. A weekly slot limping through a holiday week with a travelling student is worth less than a short defined block on one topic used while there is no homework competing. For a DP1 student the strongest use of a Dubai winter or spring break is three or four sessions on equilibrium or on mole fluency, finished before term resumes.

Travel is a standing feature of this district, given how many households are airport-adjacent or travel frequently. Online lessons follow a student to another time zone if the slot moves, which no arrangement tied to an address can do. Send the dates in advance and sessions are moved rather than missed; the thing to avoid is letting a trip turn into a four-week gap, because in chemistry the restart costs more than the gap.

08

Starting, and the availability we will not pretend about

Send four things: the level, Standard or Higher; which topics the school has covered so far; a photograph of a marked test or mock; and the time your child is realistically through the door on a bad traffic afternoon. The fourth is the one families omit and the one that decides whether the arrangement is still running in February.

The trial lesson is free, runs about forty minutes on a past question, and is a lesson rather than a sales call. Your child works, the tutor teaches, and afterwards you receive a written read on whether the problem is mole fluency, a conceptual gap in a specific topic, or extended-response technique, with the number of weeks each implies. No card details are taken and nothing is owed if you stop there.

Sometimes the slot you need does not exist. Late-evening Gulf Standard Time hours fill first, weekend mornings fill during exam terms, and a Higher Level organic mechanisms specialist requested a fortnight before final papers may genuinely not be free. We will give a realistic match time rather than filling the hour with a general science tutor, because the wrong tutor in the right slot costs the fee and the weeks.

What we ask for is limited to what matching needs: level, topics covered, school if you want its sequence followed, and a contact for scheduling. We do not need a photograph of your child or a full grade history across every subject. UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 governs the data we hold, and the privacy link on this page sets out what is kept and how to have it removed.

Where we tutor

The afternoon geography that sets a chemistry slot

What follows is the practical map of a weekday for a Diploma student living here: which direction the school run goes, how long it takes once the bell goes, and what each one does to the hour a chemistry lesson can start.

Al Garhoud

A short run north across Al Rebat Street. Students are home quickly on most days, which makes 4.30pm a slot a household can hold for a whole term rather than for a fortnight.

Mirdif

East along Algeria Street, with the nearest IB continuum provision. Collecting bus routes mean thirty-five to forty-five minutes once school finishes, so plan a chemistry lesson for 5.30pm and it survives the term.

Al Mizhar

Villa communities beyond Mirdif with the longest collection routes in this corridor. Families here share schools and buses with Al Rashidiya households, so arrival times match and sibling slots can be booked back to back.

Al Warqa

South-east, large cohorts and long runs. Students arrive home flat, and chemistry attempted at 5pm after that journey produces noticeably less than the same hour at 7pm or on a weekend morning.

Al Qusais

North-east across Damascus Street, where afternoon traffic rather than distance sets the arrival time. A nominal twenty-minute journey regularly doubles between 2.30pm and 4pm.

Dubai Festival City

North-west via the Garhoud interchange, the least predictable point in the eastern city during the school window. Two students leaving the same school ten minutes apart can be home half an hour apart.

Nad Al Hamar

Directly south on quieter roads and the fastest run here. Where a younger sibling attends school in this direction, a household ends up with two very different arrival times and needs two slots.

Dubai Silicon Oasis

South-east along Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, twenty minutes off-peak and considerably more at the end of the school day. Several secondary options here draw from across the eastern suburbs.

Al Khawaneej

Furthest east of the villa communities in this cluster, with journeys that put students home late. Weekend-morning chemistry is frequently the better purchase for families out here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Time the journey home for a week

Note when your child is actually through the front door on five consecutive days, including the worst one. The chemistry slot is set from the worst day with recovery time added, because a slot that fails every third week stops existing by the second term.

Say the level and the topics covered

Standard or Higher, and how far the school has reached through Structure and Reactivity. A student stuck in Reactivity 2 needs a different conversation from one stuck in Structure 1, and that difference is visible from this answer alone.

  3. 03

    Send a marked paper

A photograph of a marked test shows a chemistry specialist the pattern within two minutes: slow mole arithmetic, Hess sign errors, equilibrium reasoned statically, or genuine content gaps in one topic rather than general weakness.

  4. 04

    Fix the practice evening too

The lesson is one day and the twenty minutes of calculation practice is another, chosen because it is genuinely free. Chemistry fluency comes from frequency, so this step does as much work as the lesson itself and costs nothing.

  5. 05

    Take the free trial lesson

Forty minutes on a past question with your child doing the work. Ask the tutor how they handle mole fluency and what they will refuse to do with the investigation, then read the written note that follows the lesson.

  6. 06

Review at six lessons against marks

Against marks on question types that were going wrong, not against how the sessions felt. If the pattern has not shifted we change the tutor or the approach rather than asking for more time and more money.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The slot is built from the bus, not from a default hour

We schedule from your child's real arrival home with recovery time added. Garhoud-direction families can hold 4.30pm; Mirdif, Al Mizhar and Al Warqa routes need 5.30pm or later. Chemistry is the Diploma subject least tolerant of a tired student, so this is not a detail.

Lesson day and practice day are separated on purpose

Chemistry fluency comes from frequency, so the written note after each lesson names a specific twenty minutes of practice for a different evening. One long session the night before a test builds nothing that lasts.

Taught from the current guide

Structure 1 to 3 and Reactivity 1 to 3, with Higher Level depth inside the topics rather than bolted on. A tutor describing numbered topics and an options paper is working from an older syllabus and will spend your child's revision time accordingly.

Every AED figure is attributed

Each rate here was read on the provider's own public page and credited to them. None is an IB Gram price. Three of the best-ranking pages on these searches publish no price at all, and a number you can verify is worth more than one you are asked to accept.

The investigation is coached, never written

A tutor explains criteria, models method on a different investigation and questions your child's draft. No part of a submission is drafted or edited to completion by us. One page in this search result sells finished Internal Assessments; the student bears that risk alone.

No regulator claims, ever

KHDA, the Ministry of Education and the MoHRE tutoring permit are explained here with links to their own pages. IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation or licence from any of them, from the IB or from any examination board, and claims none.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Rashidiya: your questions answered

What time can a chemistry lesson start if my child buses back from Mirdif?+

Plan 5.30pm. A collecting bus from a Mirdif school works through several communities and back along Algeria Street, so thirty-five to forty-five minutes once school finishes is ordinary and a student is home around 4.15pm. Add food and half an hour of decompression and a 4.30pm chemistry lesson is being taught to somebody whose working memory has not arrived yet. Families travelling the short run north to Al Garhoud are the exception and can usually hold 4.30pm through a full term.

Why does chemistry suffer more than other subjects from a late finish?+

Because it has a computational layer that has to be automatic rather than thought through. Mole conversions, equilibrium expressions and energetics arithmetic are executed under time pressure while the student is thinking about something else, and that kind of fluency needs working memory and frequent short practice. A tired student can still absorb a history argument; they cannot reliably balance a redox half-equation. That is why the slot and the separate practice evening matter more in this subject than in most.

How much practice does Diploma chemistry need between lessons?+

Twenty to thirty minutes of mixed calculation work on two separate evenings, rather than one long session before a test. Fluency comes from frequency, and mole arithmetic in particular only becomes automatic through repetition. The practice should be named specifically in the tutor's written note after each lesson, so it is checkable rather than aspirational, and it should sit on evenings that are genuinely free: not after a long fixture, not on the heaviest homework night of the week.

My child understands chemistry but runs out of time in the paper. What is wrong?+

Almost always mole fluency. A student who can explain the method but takes forty-five seconds rather than fifteen on each conversion spends three minutes on a four-mark calculation, and the extended responses at the end never get written. It presents as a time problem and it is a practice problem. Mixed sets of mass-to-moles, concentration, gas volume, limiting-reagent and percentage-yield questions, twice a week for a term, is the whole intervention, and it is unglamorous and reliable.

Which chemistry topic causes Higher Level students the most trouble?+

Reactivity 2, and equilibrium within it. Equilibrium asks a student to reason about a dynamic system where the forward and reverse processes continue, rather than about a reaction that finishes, and a great many students quietly carry a static mental model through the whole course. At Higher Level the quantitative treatment of equilibrium constants, buffers and pH work then compounds the problem. It is a specific, teachable hurdle rather than general weakness, and a six-to-ten session block on it is a defensible purchase.

How do I tell whether a chemistry tutor knows the current course?+

Ask them to describe how the guide is organised. Somebody who has taught it will say Structure 1 to 3 and Reactivity 1 to 3, with Higher Level depth inside the topics. Somebody working from an older syllabus will describe numbered topics and an options paper. Both are chemists; only one is teaching the course your child is examined on. Then ask how they build mole fluency, and listen for whether the answer mentions timing and mixed practice sets or just offers to explain moles again.

Can chemistry really be taught well without a tutor in the laboratory?+

Yes, because the laboratory was always the school's job. Your child's practical work, reagents, safety supervision and recorded results come from school, and no tutor is running a titration in a Dubai villa. A tutor's value sits either side of the bench: designing a method that produces usable data and choosing what to control, then propagating uncertainty, interpreting the gradient and writing a real evaluation. Both halves are screen work, and the written assessment specifically rewards analysing data a student did not collect.

When should the chemistry investigation start?+

In DP1, not in the term it is due. The mark is largely decided by the research question: one with too little chemistry, or with variables a school laboratory cannot measure properly, cannot reach the higher bands however well it is written. Four early sessions cover the criteria, question choice, honest uncertainty treatment and how to evaluate a method's limits. That is especially worth doing in this district, where households travel often and a fortnight lost from a late investigation is fatal where the same fortnight lost early is survivable.

Will a tutor help my child finish the chemistry investigation report?+

Not finish it, no. A tutor may explain the criteria, model method on a different investigation, ask questions about your child's draft and point out where a conclusion is not supported by the data. A tutor may not write, draft, rewrite or edit to completion any part of it. The test for a parent is the feedback itself: questions your child has to go and answer are correct, sentences they could paste in are not. One page in this search result sells completed Internal Assessments, and the student carries the malpractice finding.

What does Higher Level chemistry tutoring cost in Dubai?+

Published market rates, each read on the provider's own page: AED 45 to 65 an hour at EdFlik for budget online tutoring, from AED 150 for IGCSE and AED 200 for IB at Unitors, AED 270 at TutorChase, AED 200 to 450 and above in Bestimate's specialist band, and AED 650 at BartyED's premium tier. In-home one to one is quoted at AED 180 to 500 because the rate carries the drive. None of those is an IB Gram price, and we publish no rate card; the figure for your child comes from the trial lesson conversation.

Is a weekend chemistry lesson better than a weekday one for us?+

If your child is on an Al Mizhar, Al Warqa or Al Khawaneej route, very probably. The comparison is not hour against hour but a rested student against a flattened one, and chemistry's computational work is unusually sensitive to that. A Saturday or Sunday morning lesson leaves weekday evenings for school homework and the short calculation practice, and it is easier to protect through mock windows. The cost is a piece of the weekend, which most long-route families decide is the right trade after a term of trying evenings.

My child is coming from IGCSE Chemistry 0620. What needs building first?+

Three things: mole arithmetic done at speed and without a formula triangle, the language of equilibrium as a dynamic process, and quantitative energetics including Hess cycles with their signs handled correctly. Cambridge 0620 and Pearson 4CH1 leave students strong on the reactivity series, on ion tests and on standard equations, and short on all three of those. A six-to-ten session block in the summer before DP1 removes most of the first-term shock and costs considerably less than the November remediation block.

Do you provide chemistry past papers and mark schemes?+

No. IB subject guides, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to the IB, and reproducing or distributing them is not ours to do. We teach against the course your child is registered for and point you to the official route through the school or the IB's own site. That is the more useful answer as well as the lawful one, because official material is current while a file circulating in a parent group is frequently from a superseded guide and will quietly waste revision time.

Can the same tutor take chemistry and biology for my child?+

Usually we would rather two specialists. Diploma chemistry and Diploma biology are different subjects with different failure modes, and a tutor strong in one is frequently average in the other; the combination tends to be a scheduling convenience rather than a teaching advantage. Where both subjects genuinely need help and the household can only hold one weekly slot, fix the one blocking a university route first, review at six lessons against marks, then decide. Splitting a single hour between two sciences moves neither.

What do you need from us before the first chemistry lesson?+

Four things. The level, Standard or Higher. How far the school has reached through Structure and Reactivity. A photograph of a marked test or mock, which shows a specialist the pattern faster than any description. And the time your child is realistically through the door on a bad traffic afternoon, which sets the slot. We do not need a photograph of your child or a full grade history; UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 governs what is held and the privacy link explains it.

Fix the hour, then fix the moles

Two decisions do most of the work for a Diploma chemistry student in Al Rashidiya, and neither of them is which tutor. The first is the hour: set it from the day your child actually gets home at the worst, add recovery time, and then do not move it. Garhoud-direction families can hold 4.30pm, eastern bus routes need 5.30pm or later, and long-route families are usually better off with a weekend morning. The second is mole fluency, built by twenty minutes of mixed practice on two separate evenings rather than a long session before a test. Send us the level, the topics covered, a marked paper and the arrival time, and take the free trial lesson.
