IB Physics Tutor in Al Muteena

An IB physics tutor in Al Muteena should be able to tell you, in the first session, which of the five syllabus themes is costing your child marks and whether the problem is Paper 1 data analysis, Paper 2 extended response or the Scientific Investigation. This page sets out that detail for Al Muteena families. Lessons are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Muteena

What an IB physics tutor should be working on in Al Muteena

Physics at IB Diploma level fails students in a small number of specific places, and an Al Muteena parent looking for help is usually describing one of them without knowing its name. The child understands the lesson but cannot start a Paper 2 question. The marks are fine on mechanics and collapse on fields. The Internal Assessment has been drafted three times and the teacher keeps saying the methodology is not sufficiently justified. These are different problems with different fixes, and lumping them together as weak at physics is why a generic tutor often achieves nothing.

The current Diploma Programme physics syllabus is organised into five themes: Space, time and motion; The particulate nature of matter; Wave behaviour; Fields; and Nuclear and quantum physics. Higher Level studies the same themes with additional content and additional depth rather than a separate list of topics, which is a structural change from older versions of the course and the reason a tutor working from out-of-date material gives misleading advice about what is examinable.

Assessment is two written papers plus the Internal Assessment. Paper 1 is split into a multiple-choice section and a data-analysis section, and together Paper 1 carries 36% of the grade. Paper 2 carries 44% and is where extended response, unfamiliar context and multi-step reasoning are tested. The Scientific Investigation carries the remaining 20%, marked out of 24 across four criteria, with a 3,000-word limit on the report. Those proportions decide where tutoring time should go, and a student losing marks in Paper 2 is losing them from the largest single component.

Al Muteena sits in the older part of Dubai, close to Deira, with most of the cluster's IB Diploma provision a short bus ride away in Al Garhoud. That geography is the reason the in-home physics market here is thin and expensive: a DP physics specialist is a narrow profession in any city, and asking one to drive into Deira on a weekday evening narrows it further. Market rates for in-home one-to-one visits in Dubai run from roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, against roughly AED 200 to AED 450 for an IB specialist teaching online.

IB Gram teaches Al Muteena students one-to-one over live video, with the student's own paper and marked IA draft shared on screen. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits are an India-only service. For a subject this narrow, the format is the substance of the offer: the question stops being who is nearby and becomes who teaches Paper 2 extended response and who has supervised a scientific investigation through all four criteria.

A final point on what this page is for. It names syllabus structures, mark allocations and published rates with their sources so that an Al Muteena parent can check a prospective tutor against something concrete rather than against adjectives. Ask which theme is weakest and why. Ask which component the first month is aimed at. Ask what the four IA criteria are worth. A physics teacher will answer all three in a sentence each.

At a glance

  • Paper 2 carries 44% of the grade and is where most recoverable marks sit
  • Paper 1 splits into multiple choice and a data-analysis section examined differently
  • The Internal Assessment is 20% of the grade, marked out of 24 over four criteria
  • The report has a 3,000-word limit, and exceeding it costs marks for no benefit
  • Higher Level extends the same five themes rather than adding separate topics
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics tutoring requests in this cluster come from three stages of a student's school career, and each needs a different starting point. The DP course is the one most Al Muteena enquiries are about, but the two routes into it matter as much.

DPAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2

Diploma Programme Physics

Two years across five themes, assessed by Paper 1, Paper 2 and the Scientific Investigation. Higher Level adds content and depth inside the same themes and sits longer papers. The practical programme runs alongside the theory, and the investigation that becomes the IA is usually started in DP1 and submitted in DP2.

Dubai schools examine in the May session, so an Al Muteena DP2 student is working to a spring examination window with the IA due to the school well before it. The internal deadline set by the school is the one that governs a student's workload, and it is usually several months earlier than any external date.

MYPAges 14-16 · MYP 4-5

MYP Sciences into DP Physics

MYP sciences are marked against four criteria out of eight each, with inquiry and reflection weighted heavily. DP physics replaces that with mathematical modelling, algebraic rearrangement and precise use of defined terms. Students who were strong in MYP often find the first term of DP1 harsher than expected, and the gap is usually mathematics rather than physics.

Several schools in the Al Garhoud and Deira cluster run MYP through to Year 11 before the Diploma, so this transition is common locally. Six weeks of work on algebraic rearrangement, units and significant figures before DP1 starts does more for a physics grade than anything else available at that point.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Physics into DP Physics

An IGCSE physics course, whether Cambridge 0625 or Pearson 4PH1, covers much of the same territory at lower mathematical demand. The step up into DP is about treating equations as models rather than formulas to substitute into, and about writing answers that explain rather than state. Students arriving from Extended or Higher tier adapt faster than those from the lower tier.

Because Old Dubai has both British and IB secondaries within a few kilometres, a student may sit IGCSE at one school and the Diploma at another. Where that happens, the summer between is the single most useful tutoring window in the whole two-year plan, and it is almost always unused.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the physics areas Al Muteena students most often bring to a first session, written in terms of what the examination actually asks rather than as a topic list.

Space, time and motion

SL and HL

Kinematics, forces, momentum, work and energy, with circular motion and the HL extension into rotational dynamics and relativity-adjacent content depending on the route. Marks are usually lost to sign conventions and to treating momentum problems as energy problems.

The particulate nature of matter

SL and HL

Thermal physics, the gas laws, internal energy and the kinetic model. The reliable mark loss here is in explanation questions that ask why a quantity changes, where students describe the change instead of explaining the mechanism.

Wave behaviour

SL and HL

Simple harmonic motion, wave characteristics, superposition, standing waves, diffraction and interference. Diagram labelling carries real marks, and phase relationships are the single most misread part of the theme.

Fields

SL and HL

Gravitational, electric and magnetic fields treated as one idea with three contexts. Field and potential are confused constantly, and the HL extension into field strength calculations and electromagnetic induction is where Higher Level candidates separate.

Nuclear and quantum physics

SL and HL

Radioactive decay, binding energy, fission and fusion, the photoelectric effect and atomic spectra. Calculations here are usually straightforward; the lost marks are in definitions used imprecisely, which examiners mark strictly.

Paper 1B data analysis

SL and HL

Graph plotting, gradient interpretation, uncertainty propagation and significant figures on unfamiliar data. This section is a skill rather than a topic, it can be trained in a handful of sessions, and students rarely practise it separately from the multiple-choice half of Paper 1.

Paper 2 extended response

SL and HL

Multi-part questions in unfamiliar contexts carrying the largest share of the grade. The teachable skill is reading the command term, planning two lines before writing, and answering the question asked rather than the topic recognised.

Practical skills and uncertainties

SL and HL

Absolute, fractional and percentage uncertainty, error bars, and the difference between random and systematic error. This underpins both Paper 1B and the Internal Assessment, and it is the most common single weakness in an IA draft.

The Scientific Investigation

SL and HL

One independent investigation reported in up to 3,000 words, marked out of 24 across research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. A tutor coaches the process, questions the method and gives feedback on the student's own writing, and does not write any part of it.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Physics support takes three shapes depending on where a student is in the two-year course. Each is described as it works in practice, including the limits.

Weekly theory and paper work

A fixed sixty or ninety minute slot through the term, working on the theme currently being taught plus retrieval on earlier ones. Ninety minutes is usually right for physics because a Paper 2 question with full working does not fit comfortably into an hour alongside discussion of where the marks went.

  • Theme-by-theme coverage aligned to the school's sequence
  • Timed Paper 2 questions marked against the published mark scheme
  • Paper 1B data-analysis practice treated as its own skill
  • Session notes naming what to practise before the next one

Investigation supervision

A short block of sessions around the Scientific Investigation, run as questioning and feedback on the student's own work. The tutor interrogates the research question, the variables, the uncertainty treatment and the evaluation, and returns comments. The tutor does not write, redraft or produce any part of the report.

  • Research question narrowed until it is actually measurable
  • Method questioned on control of variables and range of data
  • Uncertainty treatment and graphing reviewed against the criteria
  • Feedback given in writing on the student's own draft only

Pre-examination intensive

Two sessions a week for six to eight weeks ahead of the May session, built from the student's own mock papers rather than fresh content. The agenda is command terms, timing, definitions used precisely and the two or three themes where the marks are reliably leaking.

  • Diagnostic from the last two marked papers
  • Definitions drilled because examiners mark them strictly
  • Timed full papers in the final fortnight
  • A short written list of the question types to attack first

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Muteena

01

The five themes, and what Higher Level adds to each

The current DP physics syllabus is built on five themes rather than a core plus options, and Higher Level extends the same themes instead of adding separate ones. That structure is worth understanding before buying tutoring, because it changes what a Standard Level student can safely skip. Under this arrangement there is no option topic to abandon: depth is distributed across all five themes, so a student who has written off fields cannot compensate by over-preparing mechanics.

The practical consequence for an Al Muteena student is that diagnosis has to be theme-level and specific. Marks lost in Space, time and motion usually come from sign conventions and from solving momentum problems with energy methods. Marks lost in Fields come from the confusion between field strength and potential, which is a conceptual repair rather than a practice problem. Marks lost in Nuclear and quantum physics are rarely calculation errors; they are definitions stated loosely, and examiners mark definitions strictly.

Higher Level candidates meet additional content within each theme and sit longer papers, which changes the pacing problem as well as the content problem. A Higher Level student who can do every question but not in the time available needs a different intervention from one who cannot do the questions. Those two students look identical on a mock result and need opposite plans, which is the argument for a diagnostic session before any package is agreed.

The table below maps the themes to what each one most reliably costs students. It is a tutoring map rather than a syllabus summary, and it is the sort of detail a parent can use to check whether a prospective tutor actually teaches this course.

Paper 1, Paper 2 and the Investigation: the weightings that set the plan

Tutoring time should follow the marks. Paper 2 carries 44% of the physics grade, Paper 1 carries 36% across its multiple-choice and data-analysis sections, and the Scientific Investigation carries 20%. A family paying for weekly sessions should be able to say which of those three the current block is aimed at, and a tutor who cannot answer that question is teaching physics in general rather than preparing for this examination.

The structure also explains a common pattern. Students who revise by reading notes tend to improve on Paper 1 multiple choice and not at all on Paper 2, because the second paper tests whether unfamiliar context can be decoded rather than whether content is remembered. The fix is doing Paper 2 questions under time, marking them against the published scheme, and reading what the scheme rewarded. Most students have never read a mark scheme for their own answer, and the first time they do is usually the most useful hour of the term.

Paper 1B, the data-analysis section, is the most neglected part of the examination and the most trainable. It asks for graph work, gradient interpretation, uncertainty propagation and sensible significant figures on data the student has not seen before. None of that requires new physics, which is why a student eight weeks from the papers can still gain real marks there when the theory ship has largely sailed.

Higher Level and Standard Level candidates sit papers of different length on the same structure. The table sets out the components and what each one actually rewards, so a parent can ask for a plan expressed in those terms rather than in topics covered.

03

The Scientific Investigation, criterion by criterion

The Internal Assessment is the one part of the physics grade where a student has months of control and almost no external pressure, and it is where capable students most often leave marks behind. It is a single independent investigation reported in up to 3,000 words, marked out of 24 across four criteria: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation, each carrying six marks. No competitor page in this market names a single criterion, let alone its mark allocation.

The failures are predictable. Research design loses marks when the research question is too broad to be answered by the data collected, or when variables are listed without a justified method of control. Data analysis loses marks when uncertainties are mentioned rather than propagated, and when a graph is plotted without error bars or a considered line. Conclusion loses marks when the student restates the result instead of interpreting it against accepted physics. Evaluation loses marks when weaknesses are listed generically rather than tied to the specific data obtained.

The word limit is a genuine trap. A report over 3,000 words is not rewarded for the extra length, and students routinely spend their effort on background theory that earns nothing while compressing the evaluation that carries six marks. Reading the criteria before writing, rather than after, is the single highest-return piece of advice available on an IA.

What a tutor does here is bounded. The investigation must be the student's own work. A tutor asks whether the research question is measurable, challenges the control of variables, points to uncertainty treatment that will not survive marking, and gives written feedback on the student's draft. A tutor does not write, redraft to completion or produce any section of the report, and any provider offering to do so is proposing something that puts the student's diploma at risk.

Where physics marks go missing in a mock paper

  • Command terms answered at the wrong depth for the marks available
  • Units and significant figures dropped across the whole paper
  • Definitions paraphrased when examiners mark exact wording
  • Writing started before the later parts of the question were read
  • Time spent perfecting early questions and later ones left blank

A marked mock paper is the most informative document a parent can hand a tutor, and it almost always shows the same handful of patterns. The marks are not usually lost where the student felt uncertain. They are lost in places the student thought they had answered correctly, which is why self-assessment without a mark scheme is unreliable.

Command terms come first. State, describe, explain, outline, deduce and discuss each have a defined expectation, and an explanation offered where a description was asked for wastes time without gaining marks, while a description offered where an explanation was required gains almost nothing. Second is units and significant figures, which quietly remove marks across an entire paper rather than in one place. Third is the unit-less final answer after three lines of correct physics.

Fourth is the habit of starting to write before reading the whole question. Paper 2 questions build, and part (c) often tells you what part (a) was for. Fifth is time management: a Higher Level paper does not reward a perfect answer to question one followed by blank space. All five are behaviours, not knowledge gaps, which is why six weeks of focused work can move a physics grade even when the content is still imperfect.

The practical first step with a new student is to go through one marked paper line by line against the published scheme and count where the marks actually went. That produces a list of three or four named habits, and the first month of tutoring then has an agenda a parent can check.

What specialist physics tuition costs in Dubai, and what the travel premium buys

Physics at Diploma level is a narrow specialism, and narrow specialisms are priced accordingly. Published market rates in Dubai put IB and IGCSE specialist tuition at roughly AED 200 to AED 450 or more an hour, with TutorChase quoting AED 270 and BartyED publishing AED 650 for a premium named tutor. Qualified subject tutors teaching online are quoted from around AED 150 by Unitors for IGCSE and from AED 200 for IB. At the budget end, EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from roughly AED 33 to AED 52, which buys a general tutor rather than a DP physics teacher.

The interesting figure is the gap between in-home and online, because that gap is the only part of a tutoring invoice that buys no teaching. In-home one-to-one in Dubai is published at roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, with the Bestimate survey putting the ordinary band at AED 180 to AED 350. For a subject taught by a small number of people in the city, the travel premium also narrows the shortlist: the tutor has to be both a physics specialist and willing to drive into Deira in the evening, and those two conditions rarely coincide.

What the premium genuinely buys is physical presence, which matters for some students and not for others. What it does not buy is a better physicist. For an Al Muteena DP2 student whose problem is Paper 2 extended response and an IA evaluation, the useful variable is who has marked that paper and supervised that investigation, not who is nearby. Set against KHDA's confirmation on 22 May 2026 that Dubai private school fees would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, tutoring is the part of an education budget still moving.

IB Gram does not publish an hourly table on this page. The arrangement is a free trial lesson, a written diagnosis, then a plan sized to what the diagnosis shows, because a student repairing fields in DP1 and a student six weeks from the papers need different numbers of hours. Every figure above is attributed to the provider or survey that published it so a parent can verify it before relying on it.

Online physics for a practical subject: the honest comparison

Physics involves apparatus, so the question of whether it can be taught over video is a fair one. The answer depends on which part of the course is in question. The practical programme itself belongs to the school, which runs the laboratory work and supervises the investigation; a tutor's role in practical work is to interrogate design, uncertainty and analysis, all of which happen on paper and on screen rather than at a bench.

For theory, data analysis and examination technique, video delivery is at least as good as a kitchen table. The screen is shared, the student's own marked paper is on it, and the tutor watches the working appear in real time instead of reading a finished answer. Graph work and uncertainty propagation are better on a shared digital surface than on paper, because the tutor can annotate the same object the student is looking at. Sessions are recorded, so a derivation can be rewatched later in the week.

IB Gram does not send tutors to homes in the UAE; that service is offered only in India. Lessons for Al Muteena families run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. This is stated plainly because the alternative is a parent discovering it after payment, which is what happens on pages that route UAE families to a non-UAE telephone number without saying where the tutor is.

The comparison table below is written for a physics request specifically, where the tutor pool is the decisive variable rather than the format.

Academic honesty: what a physics tutor may and may not do

This section exists because one of the pages competing for these queries sells completed Internal Assessments. That is not a grey area. Work submitted for assessment must be the student's own, and submitting work produced by someone else is malpractice with consequences that fall on the student rather than on the provider who sold it.

The boundary is workable and clear in practice. A tutor may teach the physics, explain the criteria, question a research question until it becomes measurable, challenge a method, point out that an uncertainty treatment will not survive marking, and give written feedback on a draft the student wrote. A tutor may discuss what the evaluation criterion rewards and ask the questions that make a student notice their own gap.

A tutor may not write any part of the report, redraft the student's text into something else, supply a method to copy, or produce the analysis. The practical test a parent can apply is whether the words in the document were typed by their child. If a tutor has made that question difficult to answer, something has gone wrong regardless of what the grade looks like.

There is also a sourcing boundary worth naming. Official syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to the boards, and reproducing or distributing them is not something a tutoring provider should do. The right approach is to reference them and point to the official source, which is also why this page links out rather than offering downloads.

08

The May session and the school deadlines that come first

Dubai IB schools examine in the May session, and an Al Muteena DP2 family planning tutoring should work backwards from that. The dates a student actually feels, though, are the school's internal ones: the IA draft deadline, the final IA submission to the teacher, the mock window and the point at which predicted grades are set. Those sit months before any external examination and they are set by the school, not the board.

This project does not publish specific IB examination or results dates, for a defensible reason: the IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no date here has been confirmed against the source. Any page that states an IB results date without naming where it read it is asking a parent to trust an unverified number. The correct instruction is to confirm the session dates with the school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org, and to treat the school's internal calendar as the operational one.

For families with a child sitting Cambridge or Pearson qualifications alongside or before the Diploma, those calendars are published and sourced. Cambridge runs June and November series, and the February/March series is offered to India only, so it is not a route available in Dubai. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November; the November 2026 final timetable ran to 19 November 2026, and June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026.

The useful planning rule for physics is simple. Count backwards from the school's IA deadline first, because that is 20% of the grade with a fixed date and no second attempt, then plan paper technique into the window that remains. Families who do it the other way round usually find themselves supervising an investigation in the same fortnight as the mocks.

Where we tutor

Where Al Muteena physics students actually come from

Diploma Programme physics is taught in a limited number of schools in this half of Dubia's map, so the catchment for a physics request is wider than the catchment for a maths one. These are the neighbourhoods those students live in.

Al Muteena

Dense residential blocks near Abu Baker Al Siddique metro, with most DP provision reached by bus towards Al Garhoud. A physics session after 4.30pm on a weekday is the realistic pattern during term.

Deira

Immediately adjacent and on the same bus routes. Families here and in Al Muteena are usually comparing the same two or three IB schools, which means the same teachers and the same internal IA deadlines.

Al Garhoud

Where much of this cluster's IB Diploma teaching sits, near Dubai Festival City. A DP2 student travelling out from Al Muteena is typically home by 4.15pm, which is early enough for a ninety-minute paper session.

Hor Al Anz

North-east of Al Muteena and functionally continuous with it. Physics requests from here involve the same school cohorts and the same five-theme syllabus, so the plan is identical.

Oud Metha and Karama

South across the creek, with several large secondaries and a strong pipeline of students taking DP physics with an eye on engineering courses. The maths support that physics needs is often requested at the same time.

Al Qusais

A daily destination for part of Al Muteena's secondary cohort. The shortest bus run in the cluster, which makes a 4.15pm physics slot workable even in term time.

Al Nahda

On the Sharjah boundary, where a family may use schools regulated by KHDA in Dubai and by SPEA in Sharjah. Border traffic pushes the earliest realistic session later than anywhere else in this cluster.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the course details and a marked paper

Level, whether Higher or Standard, the school, the year of the course, and the last marked physics paper or IA draft comments. The marked paper does more work than any description of the problem, because it shows where marks were lost rather than where confidence was low.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson with a written diagnosis

Taught by the tutor proposed for the ongoing slot. The output is a short note naming the themes and components where marks are leaking and what the first four sessions should attack. No payment is needed to reach that point, and the note is useful even if you stop there.

  3. 03

Agree the component the block is aimed at

Paper 2 technique, Paper 1B data analysis, theme repair or investigation supervision. Naming the target keeps the sessions accountable and lets a parent ask a specific question at the end of the month rather than a vague one.

  4. 04

Weekly work against the mark scheme

Timed questions marked against the published scheme, with the student reading what the scheme rewarded. Each session ends with a short practice set and a written note. For IA blocks, feedback is given on the student's own draft and nothing is written for them.

  5. 05

Shift to examination behaviour before the session

In the last six to eight weeks the agenda changes to command terms, timing, exact definitions and full timed papers. If the IA is still open at that point, it takes priority, because it carries fixed marks with a fixed deadline.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Diagnosis is by component, not by subject

A plan that says physics is too vague to check. A plan that says Paper 2 extended response and the evaluation criterion of the IA can be verified by a parent after four weeks. Every block here is aimed at a named component with a named share of the grade.

The investigation is coached, never written

The IA is 20% of the grade and the place where capable students lose most. A tutor questions the design, challenges the uncertainty treatment and comments on the student's draft. Nobody produces any part of the report, and that boundary is stated rather than implied.

The tutor pool is physics teachers, not nearby teachers

DP physics is a narrow specialism in any city. Teaching online means the shortlist is built from people who teach this syllabus, rather than from the intersection of physics knowledge and willingness to drive into Deira on a weekday evening.

Published rates are attributed, ours are not invented

Every AED figure here is credited to the provider or survey that published it. IB Gram quotes no hourly table on this page because hours needed vary too widely, and starts instead with a free trial lesson and a written diagnosis.

Unverified dates are not published

IB session and results dates are not stated here because they could not be confirmed against the IB's own site. Cambridge and Pearson dates are given with their source. A parent should be able to tell which numbers on a page were checked.

Limits are stated in plain words

No home visits in the UAE, no Dubai office, no regulator approval claimed, no grade promised, no statistics without a source. Several pages ranking for this query fail at least one of those, and the contrast is the point.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Muteena: your questions answered

What should an IB physics tutor diagnose in the first session?+

Which component is leaking marks. Paper 2 carries 44% of the grade, Paper 1 carries 36% across multiple choice and data analysis, and the Scientific Investigation carries 20%. A student weak on Paper 2 extended response and a student weak on Paper 1B data analysis look similar on a mock percentage and need opposite plans. A first session should work through a marked paper against the published mark scheme and produce three or four named habits to attack, rather than starting a syllabus sweep from theme A.

How is the current DP physics course organised into themes?+

Five themes: Space, time and motion; The particulate nature of matter; Wave behaviour; Fields; and Nuclear and quantum physics. Higher Level studies the same five with additional content and depth rather than separate option topics. That matters practically because there is no option to drop, so a student who has written off fields cannot compensate elsewhere. It also matters when choosing a tutor, since anyone working from older course structures will give misleading advice about what is examinable and how the depth is distributed.

How many marks is the physics Internal Assessment worth and how is it split?+

The Scientific Investigation carries 20% of the subject grade and is marked out of 24 across four criteria worth six marks each: research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The report has a 3,000-word limit. Most lost marks come from a research question too broad for the data collected, uncertainties mentioned but never propagated, a conclusion that restates the graph rather than interpreting it, and generic limitations in the evaluation. Reading the criteria before writing rather than afterwards is the highest-return single piece of advice on an IA.

Where exactly is the line between IA coaching and IB malpractice?+

Yes, within a clear boundary. A tutor may teach the physics, explain what each criterion rewards, question the research question until it is measurable, challenge the control of variables, flag an uncertainty treatment that will not survive marking, and give written feedback on a draft the student wrote. A tutor may not write, redraft or produce any section of the report, nor supply a method to copy. The test a parent can apply is whether their child typed the words. Providers selling completed investigations put the student's diploma at risk, not their own.

Is Paper 1B data analysis worth practising separately?+

It is the most neglected and most trainable part of the examination. The section gives unfamiliar data and asks for graph work, gradient interpretation, uncertainty propagation and sensible significant figures. None of that requires new content knowledge, which is why a student eight weeks from the papers can still gain real marks there when learning fresh theory has stopped being realistic. Most students practise Paper 1 as a single block of multiple choice and never work the data section on its own, which leaves the easiest available improvement untouched.

My son understands every lesson but freezes on Paper 2. Why?+

Because the two measure different things. Classwork rewards understanding the material in the context it was taught. Paper 2 presents unfamiliar contexts and multi-step reasoning, and asks the student to decide what physics applies before applying it. Students who revise by rereading notes improve on recall and not at all on this. The repair is doing Paper 2 questions under time, marking them against the published scheme, then reading what the scheme rewarded. Most students have never read a mark scheme for their own answer, and the first time is usually the most useful hour of the term.

Does online delivery work for a subject with laboratory work?+

For theory, data analysis and examination technique, yes, and in some respects better than a kitchen table: the student's own marked paper is on a shared screen, graph work can be annotated jointly, and the tutor watches working appear rather than reading a finished answer. The practical programme itself belongs to the school, which runs the laboratory and supervises the investigation. A tutor's contribution to practical work is design, uncertainty and analysis, all of which happen on paper. What video does not give is physical presence, which some students genuinely need.

Will someone come to our building in Al Muteena to teach physics?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere else in the UAE; home visits exist only in India. Lessons here are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. In-home physics tutoring in Al Muteena is available from independent tutors and agencies at published market rates of roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, and choosing it is reasonable. The hidden cost is the shortlist: the tutor must be both a DP physics specialist and willing to drive into Deira in the evening, and those two conditions rarely overlap.

How much does a DP physics specialist charge in Dubai?+

Published market figures put IB and IGCSE specialist tuition at roughly AED 200 to AED 450 or more an hour. TutorChase quotes AED 270; BartyED publishes AED 650 for a premium named tutor; Unitors advertises IB tuition from AED 200 and IGCSE from AED 150. At the lower end EdFlik lists from AED 45 to AED 65 and Tutopiya from roughly AED 33 to AED 52, which buys general academic help rather than DP physics depth. Those are market rates with named sources, not an IB Gram price list, and should be checked on the provider's current page.

Which command terms cost the most marks in physics papers?+

Explain and deduce, because both are commonly answered as describe. State, describe, explain, outline, deduce and discuss each carry a defined expectation, and answering at the wrong depth either wastes time or earns nothing. An explanation given where a description was asked for costs minutes and gains no extra credit; a description given where an explanation was required gains almost nothing at all. Working through one marked paper and counting the command terms that were misread usually produces a shorter and more actionable list than any revision guide.

When should a DP1 student start physics tutoring rather than waiting?+

The two highest-value windows are the term in which fields and thermal physics are taught, because both are conceptual repairs that compound if left, and the months in which the investigation is designed. Waiting until DP2 mocks means arriving with a conceptual gap and a submitted IA, neither of which can be fixed quickly. A DP1 student with one weak theme and an open investigation is in the best possible position to use tutoring, and usually needs fewer total hours than a DP2 student with the same underlying problem.

Do you publish the IB exam dates for this year's May session?+

No, deliberately. The IB's own website blocks automated checking, so no IB session or results date in this project has been verified against the source, and publishing an unverified date a parent might act on is worse than publishing none. Confirm the session with your school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org. Cambridge and Pearson dates are different: those are sourced, so this page states that Cambridge runs June and November series and that Pearson's November 2026 final timetable ran to 19 November 2026.

Can the same tutor cover physics and the maths it depends on?+

Often, and it is worth asking during matching rather than assuming either way. A DP physics specialist usually teaches Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches competently, and the algebraic rearrangement, graph work and uncertainty handling overlap genuinely. Where a student needs Higher Level maths at depth as well as physics at depth, two specialists normally beat one person covering both. The deciding factor is the specific tutor's subject depth at the level required, which is established during matching rather than promised in advance on a web page.

What happens if no physics specialist is free at the time we need?+

You are told that, with a realistic date, rather than offered whoever is available. DP physics is a narrower pool than mathematics, and a specific constraint such as an early-morning slot before school can take longer to fill. Substituting a general science tutor for a Higher Level physics request wastes a family's money and a student's term, so it is not done. If the request cannot be matched well, the honest answer is a waiting date or a recommendation to look elsewhere, and that is what no competitor page in this market discloses.

Start with a marked paper, not a description

The quickest way to get useful physics help for an Al Muteena student is to send the last marked paper and, if there is one, the teacher's comments on the investigation draft. Those two documents show which of the three components is actually costing marks, and that decides everything else: whether the block is Paper 2 technique, Paper 1B data analysis, a conceptual repair in fields, or supervision of an investigation before the school's deadline. A free trial lesson with the proposed tutor ends with that written down, before you commit to anything.
