IB Tutor near me in Al Muteena

Typing IB tutor near me in Al Muteena is a search for proximity, and the IB Diploma rewards something else: a tutor who knows what each paper is worth. Paper 3 carries a different share of an HL grade than Paper 1 does, the internal assessment weighting differs by subject, and the core can add or remove points independently of the six subject grades. This page is built from that assessment grid outwards. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Muteena

Proximity is the wrong filter for a Diploma tutor

A near-me search is a sensible instinct applied to the wrong problem. For a piano lesson or a football coach, distance is the deciding variable. For the IB Diploma it is close to irrelevant, because the thing that moves a grade is detailed knowledge of how one subject at one level is assessed, and that knowledge is not distributed by neighbourhood. Al Muteena is a dense residential district in older Dubai with relatively few IB schools nearby; the probability that the person who best understands Chemistry Higher Level paper structure lives within a short drive is low.

What makes the Diploma unusual is how specific the assessment arithmetic is. Each subject is graded 1 to 7 from a combination of external papers and internal assessment, and the share each component carries is published. A student who spends equal effort on every component is over-investing in the small ones. A student who neglects the internal assessment because it feels like coursework rather than an exam is giving away a fixed, knowable fraction of the grade before the papers start.

On top of the six subject grades sits the core: Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay, which together contribute additional points on a published matrix, and CAS, which is a completion requirement rather than a graded one. A student who treats the core as administrative overhead can lose points that cost less to earn than the equivalent movement in a subject grade would. That is a planning insight, not a motivational one, and it is why a good tutor asks about the Extended Essay subject early.

The other thing a Diploma tutor needs is command-term fluency. The IB publishes its command terms and they carry distinct expectations: state, outline, describe, explain, analyse, evaluate, discuss, justify. A paper answer written at the wrong command level is capped regardless of how much the student knows. This is the single most common reason a bright Diploma student scores a 5 and cannot work out why, and it is diagnosable from one marked paper.

Internal assessment is where the honesty boundary lives. A tutor can teach the science, interrogate the methodology, explain the published criteria and give feedback on the student's draft. A tutor cannot write it, cannot edit it to completion and cannot supply a model to be submitted. That boundary matters commercially as well as ethically in this market, because operations selling finished Internal Assessments exist in the Gulf search results and the consequence of using one falls on the student.

So the honest reframe of the near-me search is this: for the Diploma, choose on assessment literacy and on availability at the hour your child is actually free, and accept that the tutor will not be in Al Muteena. Everything below is written to make that choice easier, starting with what each component of a Diploma grade is actually worth.

At a glance

  • Each Diploma subject grade combines external papers with internal assessment at published weightings
  • Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay add core points on a published matrix
  • Command terms set the mark ceiling for an answer regardless of knowledge
  • HL and SL differ in paper count, paper length and content depth, not only in difficulty
  • UAE Diploma candidates sit the May session; the November session exists for other calendars
  • A tutor coaches internal assessment and never produces any part of it
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An Al Muteena family searching for IB support is usually at one of three points in the sequence, and each one needs a different kind of help.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS. Subject grades run 1 to 7, giving 42 from the six, with up to three further points from the core. HL courses carry more teaching hours, an extra paper in several subjects, and content the SL syllabus does not examine.

In Dubai the Diploma is taught in a minority of private schools; International Baccalaureate students are roughly seven per cent of the emirate's private pupils against thirty-seven per cent on UK curricula. For an Al Muteena family that usually means a commute to an IB school in Al Garhoud, Oud Metha or further south, and a small cohort in each subject at each level.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme

The IB's pre-Diploma programme, assessed against four criteria per subject out of eight each rather than on papers. Strong MYP students frequently struggle in Diploma term one on timed writing alone, because nothing in MYP requires producing a complete argument against a clock without resources.

Several Dubai schools run MYP to Year 11 and Diploma from Year 12, while most schools near Al Muteena run IGCSE instead. A student arriving in the Diploma from IGCSE and one arriving from MYP need different first-term support: the IGCSE student has examination technique and weaker independent research habits, the MYP student the reverse.

CPAges 16-19

IB Career-related Programme

A less common IB route combining Diploma courses with a career-related study and a reflective project. Available in a small number of UAE schools. Students take individual DP subjects within it, so subject tutoring works identically; the core requirements differ.

Worth knowing about because a family comparing schools in Dubai may be shown it as an alternative to the full Diploma. For university entry and for Ministry of Education equivalency the two are not interchangeable, so ask the school directly what the certificate at the end actually is.

AS/A2Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

International A Level, the alternative at 16

The route most schools near Al Muteena offer instead of the Diploma: three or four subjects, modular at AS and A2, examined in June and November windows. Narrower and deeper than the Diploma, with no core and no compulsory mathematics or second language.

For UAE Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, students must show one accredited subject at Advanced Level at grade E or better, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level, plus five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at grade E or 3 or better. No IB points threshold has been published that we can source, so we state none.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Each subject below is described by its assessment shape, because that is what decides where a Diploma student should spend the next eight weeks.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The algebraic, proof-oriented route. HL adds an extra paper and substantially more content, and the exploration is internally assessed against published criteria. Marks concentrate in the long structured questions, where partial credit for method survives an arithmetic error and an unexplained answer does not.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The modelling and statistics route, technology-permitted throughout. Suits students heading to business, social sciences and design. Some engineering and mathematics degrees specify Analysis and Approaches, so the route choice needs checking against intended destinations rather than against comfort.

Chemistry

HL and SL

HL adds content and an extra paper, and the data-based questions reward careful uncertainty handling. Organic mechanisms and energetics produce the most predictable losses, and the scientific investigation carries a published share of the grade that students routinely under-plan.

Physics

HL and SL

Algebraic fluency is the gatekeeper: students who cannot rearrange confidently lose marks they understand conceptually. Fields, circular motion and the HL extensions are where SL-trained habits break down, and graph interpretation carries disproportionate weight.

Biology

HL and SL

Volume of content makes it feel like a memory subject, and it is marked on applied explanation. Data-based questions on unfamiliar experiments reward a student who has practised reading a graph and stating a limitation, not one who has reread the notes.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagrams earn marks explicitly: axes labelled, curves named, shifts shown and explained in words. HL adds quantitative questions and a further paper. The internal assessment is a set of commentaries on real published articles, and article choice determines how much of the syllabus a student can actually show.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Assessed across unseen analysis, a comparative essay and an oral on a global issue, with HL adding a further written component. Students who write fluently but never anchor a claim to a specific textual feature plateau, because the criteria reward supported interpretation over confident assertion.

Theory of Knowledge

Core, all candidates

An exhibition and a prescribed-title essay, contributing core points alongside the Extended Essay on a published matrix. Students who treat it as an opinion piece score poorly; the criteria reward a tightly argued line with clear real-world examples.

The Extended Essay

Core, all candidates

An independent research essay in a chosen subject, with a word limit and a formal supervision process. The research question is the whole ballgame: too broad and the essay cannot be argued, too narrow and there is nothing to find. Most of the recoverable marks are decided before any writing begins.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover nearly every Diploma request from this district. All run live over video; none involves a tutor travelling to an address in the UAE.

Weekly one-to-one by subject and level

Sixty or ninety minutes on one named subject at one named level, planned around the component carrying the most recoverable marks. The session works a real paper question live, with the tutor marking against published expectations and explaining where the command term capped the answer.

  • One subject at one level, named in advance
  • Component chosen by weighting and current mark
  • Live marking with command-term commentary
  • One short timed task set between sessions

Internal assessment and Extended Essay coaching

Process support at the points where marks are actually decided: the research question, the methodology, the criteria reading, the halfway review. The student writes every word. The tutor asks what the evidence supports and marks drafts against the published criteria.

  • Research question interrogated before writing starts
  • Criteria read together, strand by strand
  • Drafts given feedback, never rewritten
  • Deadlines planned backwards from the school's internal dates

Final-stretch paper block

An intensive block in the weeks before the session, two or three sessions a week weighted to the subjects furthest from target. Full papers under timed conditions, losses categorised, and no new content introduced unless a named gap demands it.

  • Rotation set by distance from target grade
  • Papers sat to time, then analysed rather than redone
  • Losses split into content, technique, misread and clock
  • Reviewed fortnightly against the remaining weeks

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Muteena

01

What a Diploma grade is actually made of

Every Diploma subject grade comes from a published combination of components, and the published shares are the most useful planning document a Diploma family will ever read. In most sciences the external papers carry the large majority of the grade and the scientific investigation carries a fixed, meaningful remainder. In Economics the internal commentaries carry a published share and the papers the rest, with HL adding a further paper. In the language subjects the balance between unseen analysis, essay and oral work differs again.

Two consequences follow. The first is that effort should be weighted, not spread. A student who puts three weeks into polishing a component worth a small share of the grade while a heavily weighted paper goes unpractised has made a measurable error, and it is the sort of error nobody notices because it feels like hard work. The second is that the internal assessment is not optional revision territory: it is a known fraction of the grade that can be secured in advance, under no time pressure, with feedback available throughout.

The arithmetic above the subjects matters too. Six subjects at 1 to 7 give a maximum of forty-two points, and the core adds up to three more through a published matrix combining the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay grades. CAS is a completion requirement rather than a points earner, but failing to complete it has consequences no amount of subject performance offsets.

This is why a first session with a Diploma student starts with their subject list, levels, current grades and the state of each internal assessment and the Extended Essay, rather than with a topic. Fifteen minutes on that inventory frequently reveals that the fastest available points are not in the subject the family was worried about.

02

Higher Level and Standard Level: what the difference actually is

Parents often read Higher Level as simply harder, which undersells what changes. HL courses carry more teaching hours, additional syllabus content that the SL course does not examine at all, and in several subjects an extra paper. That means an HL student is not sitting a sterner version of the SL paper; they are sitting a different set of papers over a larger syllabus.

The practical consequence shows up in subject choice. A student who needs a particular subject at HL for a university course has to carry that extra content for two years, and a student who selected HL for prestige rather than purpose is spending hours that another subject needs. In mathematics the choice is doubled, because Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation are different courses before the level question even arises, and some degree programmes specify one of them.

For tutoring the HL and SL distinction changes the plan rather than the intensity. An SL student near a boundary usually needs technique: command-term discipline, paper timing, data-question method. An HL student in trouble more often has a content gap in the HL extension material, because that content arrives later and is taught faster. Treating both as needing more practice papers helps one and wastes the other's time.

This is also where honest advice matters more than reassurance. A student carrying three HL subjects that all demand heavy independent work, plus the Extended Essay in one of them, may be over-committed in a way no tutoring fixes. Saying so in month two of Year 12, while a level change is still administratively possible at the school, is more useful than saying it after the first mock series.

03

Command terms: the reason a knowledgeable student scores a 5

  • State and describe credit no explanation; explain credits a causal chain
  • Evaluate and discuss require weighed judgement, not a single-sided case
  • Marks per question should drive minutes per question
  • Sorting past questions by command term is the fastest diagnostic available

The IB publishes its command terms and defines them, and they are the most under-taught part of the Diploma. State asks for a specific answer with no supporting argument and gives nothing for one. Describe asks for an account without explanation. Explain asks for reasons or causes and credits a causal chain. Analyse asks for the parts and their relationships. Evaluate and discuss ask for judgement supported by weighed evidence, and an answer that presents one side scores in the lower bands however well written.

The failure pattern is consistent. A student who knows a topic thoroughly answers an evaluate question with a detailed explanation, receives a middling mark, and concludes they do not know the material well enough. They then revise more content, answer the next evaluate question the same way, and the mark does not move. The problem was never knowledge; it was the verb at the start of the question.

Fixing it is quick and dull. Take a set of past questions on one topic, sort them by command term, and write only the first two sentences of each answer, checking against what the term demands. A student who does that for an hour across two sessions usually changes shape immediately, because the behaviour is mechanical once noticed.

This also interacts with timing. Evaluate and discuss answers take longer and are worth more, so students who spend equal time per question routinely run out of clock on the questions carrying the most marks. Reading the paper's mark allocation before writing and budgeting minutes against marks is a separate discipline worth building in the same sessions.

04

Internal assessment: where marks are won, and where the line sits

Internal assessment is the component families most often misread. It carries a published share of every subject grade, it is produced over months rather than hours, and feedback is permitted within defined limits. In principle it is the most controllable part of a Diploma grade. In practice it is the part most often left until a deadline turns it into a rushed piece of work that caps the subject.

The marks are mostly decided early. In the sciences the investigation's research question and methodology determine how much of the criteria the student can even reach: a question that cannot generate meaningful data makes good analysis impossible later. In Economics the choice of published article determines how much syllabus the commentary can demonstrate. In mathematics the exploration topic decides whether genuine mathematical engagement is possible or whether the student is describing arithmetic. An hour spent interrogating the question at the start is worth more than a week of polishing at the end.

What a tutor may do here is clear, and worth stating plainly because the market is not clean. A tutor can teach the underlying subject, question the design, explain each published criterion, give feedback on the student's own draft and ask what the evidence actually supports. A tutor must not write any part of it, must not edit it to completion and must not supply a model for submission. The work has to be the student's own, and IB academic-honesty rules make the consequences of breaching that the student's to carry.

Some providers in the Gulf market advertise completed Internal Assessments for sale at a fixed price. A family evaluating any tutoring arrangement should ask directly what the provider will and will not produce, and treat an evasive answer as an answer. The legitimate version of this help is slower, duller and genuinely moves grades, because a student who has argued their own methodology can defend it in a viva and write about it coherently.

05

The May session, counted backwards from an Al Muteena desk

UAE Diploma candidates sit the May session. Internal deadlines, not the examination window, are what structure the two years, and those deadlines belong to the school rather than the board. Each subject's internal assessment has a school submission date, the Extended Essay has a sequence of supervision checkpoints, and Theory of Knowledge has its own exhibition and essay deadlines. A family that knows those dates can plan; a family that does not spends two years reacting.

A workable backwards plan looks like this. Year 12 is for the Extended Essay research question, the subject selection confirmed, and the internal assessment topics chosen and approved. The winter of Year 13 is for completing internal assessment to a real standard and sitting mocks. The final term is the paper phase: full papers under timed conditions, losses categorised, command-term work, and no new content unless a gap is named.

We do not publish specific IB examination or results dates on these pages. The IB's own site blocks automated checking, so no date in this project has been confirmed from the IB itself, and a date a family acts on has to be right. Confirm the session and results dates with the school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org directly, and treat any third-party calendar, including ours, as a prompt to check rather than a source.

For Cambridge and Pearson qualifications sat alongside, the published position is firmer. Cambridge runs June and November series for UAE centres, with the February/March series offered to India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs May/June and November; its November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026.

What Diploma tutoring costs in Dubai, cheapest band first

Start at the bottom of the market rather than the top, because the bottom is where most families begin and where the mismatch is largest. Tutopiya publishes online rates from around AED 33 to 52 an hour and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. That band is largely university students and group-adjacent delivery, and for Diploma work it struggles, not because the tutors are weak but because Diploma grades turn on assessment detail that takes years of teaching the same syllabus to internalise.

The next band is qualified subject tutors working online, published at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200 an hour. Above that sit specialists: TutorChase lists around AED 270, Bestimate's specialist band runs AED 200 to 450 and above, and BartyED charges AED 650 for premium named tutors. In-home one-to-one visits are published at AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included. All of these are the providers' own published figures, not IB Gram's prices.

The monthly frame is the one that actually governs a household decision. Bestimate's estimates for weekly one-hour sessions run roughly AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-band, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Monthly packages circulating in the market include around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

For a Diploma family the sharpest question is not the hourly rate but how many subjects to buy. Three HL subjects plus Extended Essay coaching is three or four recurring commitments, and most families cannot sustain that for two years. The version that works is a weighted one: one subject weekly at specialist level, short coaching blocks on the internal assessments and the Extended Essay at the points where marks are decided, and an intensive final-stretch block. Spread thinly across six subjects, the same budget changes nothing measurable.

Online rather than near me: the trade spelled out

A near-me search for a Diploma tutor in Al Muteena returns a small pool, and the limiting factor is not the district's affluence but IB density. International Baccalaureate students are a minority of Dubai's private-school population and that minority is concentrated in newer communities rather than the older northern grid. A tutor who teaches Chemistry Higher Level every week is unlikely to be the tutor who will drive to Al Muteena at five on a Tuesday.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. Home tutoring is a service we run only in India, and no tutor will arrive at an address in Dubai. All UAE lessons are one-to-one and live over video on Gulf Standard Time, with the paper, the criteria and the student's draft shared on screen. For Diploma work that is a genuine fit: almost everything a session needs to look at is a document.

The in-home market exists and is priced accordingly, at AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel against AED 150 to 300 for comparable online work. What the difference buys is physical presence, which helps some students, and a round trip through Dubai traffic at the hour the whole city is moving, which helps nobody. For a Diploma student the cost is also time: an in-home arrangement is hard to move when a mock week or an internal deadline lands, and Diploma deadlines land constantly.

The honest caveat is motivation. A student who will not work unsupervised does not become self-directed because the lesson is on video, and for that student the format is not the problem to solve. What online delivery removes is the geography constraint on who teaches them, which for a Diploma subject at Higher Level is usually the constraint that matters most.

Regulators, equivalency and the questions a Dubai IB family should actually ask

The regulator map for UAE private schools is worth knowing because it is poorly covered elsewhere. Dubai private schools fall under KHDA, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and Al Ain fall under ADEK, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools. Sharjah is regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah by its Department of Knowledge, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah by the federal Ministry of Education. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities also approve tuition fees, curricula and assessment methods, so the emirate regulator does more than inspect.

None of those bodies regulates private tutoring. Individual tutoring in the UAE is governed by permit through MoHRE, introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen, and individuals offering private tutoring without it are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so no amount should be quoted.

Equivalency is the other thing Dubai families ask about and almost no competitor page covers. For the British track the Ministry requires five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at grade E or 3 or better, excluding Arabic and Islamic education, plus one Advanced Level subject at grade E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects. For the American track, English proficiency requires a score of 5 in IELTS academic, 61 in TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the SAT reading and writing section, with at least 450 in SAT Math. No IB points threshold has been published that we can source, so we do not state one; verify with the Ministry or the emirate's attestation authority.

Two things follow for a family hiring a tutor. First, no tutoring provider is KHDA approved in the sense the phrase implies; a KHDA Educational Services Permit is issued to training institutes with premises, and we hold none. Second, ask a prospective tutor whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition permit, because the parent can ask and the answer tells them something real about how the arrangement is being run.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Muteena

Al Muteena sits in the older Deira grid, and Diploma students here are almost always commuting to an IB school outside the district. These notes describe what that does to a weekday evening.

Al Muteena

Apartment living near Salahuddin Road with limited IB provision close by, so Diploma students are typically bussed south. Study space is often shared, which makes a predictable quiet hour more valuable than an early one.

Hor Al Anz

Immediately east and feeding the same school routes. Diploma cohorts from both districts tend to share a bus and therefore an arrival time, which is why evening slots cluster.

Deira

The largest nearby school stock but weighted to IGCSE and Indian curricula rather than IB. More schools nearby does not translate into more Diploma specialists in the district.

Al Garhoud

The closest concentration of IB provision, a short drive south. Students resident here get home earliest among the northern districts and can take a late-afternoon slot.

Oud Metha and Bur Dubai

Further IB and international provision, with a longer journey from Al Muteena. Students bussed here frequently arrive back after five, pushing sessions to six or later.

Al Qusais and Al Nahda

Dense mixed-curriculum districts with a share of families commuting towards the Sharjah boundary. Weekend sessions are common here because weekday evenings are unreliable in term time.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Send the subject inventory, not the problem subject

List all six subjects with levels, current grades, the state of each internal assessment and the Extended Essay subject and question. Fifteen minutes on that inventory often shows the fastest available points are somewhere other than where the family was worried.

  2. 02

Free trial on one paper question

The trial works a real past question live, marked against published expectations, with the tutor naming whether the loss was content, command term, method or clock. No payment is taken before this, and the diagnosis is given plainly even when the answer is that tutoring is not the bottleneck.

  3. 03

Weight the plan by component share

Sessions go where the recoverable marks are: a heavily weighted paper that has never been practised, or an internal assessment whose research question still cannot generate data. Spreading hours evenly across six subjects is the most common way a year of tutoring produces no movement.

  4. 04

Book the internal assessment checkpoints early

Coaching is front-loaded to the moments where marks are decided: question setting, methodology, criteria reading and a halfway review. The student writes every word; the tutor questions and gives feedback on drafts against the published criteria.

  5. 05

Switch to papers for the final stretch

In the last phase the work is full papers under timed conditions, losses categorised, and command-term drills. New content goes in only where a named gap demands it, because at that distance breadth costs more than it returns.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Planned from the weightings

Every subject grade is a published combination of components. We plan from those shares rather than from how worried the family feels, because effort spread evenly across unequal components is a measurable waste of hours.

Command terms treated as a skill

A bright student scoring a 5 is usually answering the wrong verb. Sorting past questions by command term and writing only opening sentences changes the shape of answers within two sessions, and it costs almost nothing.

Internal assessment coached, not produced

We interrogate the research question, read the criteria with the student and give feedback on their drafts. We do not write, edit to completion or supply models. Operations that sell finished assessed work put the consequences on the student.

Level and route advice given straight

If three Higher Level subjects plus an Extended Essay in one of them is more than a student can carry, we say so while the school can still act. Mathematics route choice is checked against intended destinations rather than comfort.

No proximity premium

Lessons run live over video on Gulf Standard Time, so the subject specialist is chosen on assessment literacy rather than drive time. We do not offer home visits in the UAE; home tutoring runs only in India.

Dates and figures handled honestly

We publish no IB examination or results dates, because the IB's own site cannot be checked automatically and a wrong date is worse than none. Every AED band here is a published market rate credited to its source.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Muteena: your questions answered

Does it matter that an IB Diploma tutor is not based near Al Muteena?+

For the Diploma, very little. What moves a grade is detailed knowledge of how one subject at one level is assessed, and that is not distributed by neighbourhood. International Baccalaureate students are a minority of Dubai's private pupils and are concentrated in newer communities, so the northern districts have thin local IB supply whichever one you search. Choosing on assessment literacy and on availability at the hour your child is genuinely free produces better results than choosing on drive time, and online delivery removes distance from the decision entirely.

My daughter says she is aiming for 38 points. Where do those points come from?+

Six subjects graded 1 to 7 give a maximum of forty-two points. Up to three further points come from the core, awarded on a published matrix combining the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay grades. CAS is a completion requirement rather than a points earner, but it must be completed. Each subject grade itself combines external papers with internal assessment at shares the IB publishes per subject. That last detail is the one families most often miss, and it is where most of the planning value sits.

Why is my child scoring a 5 when they clearly know the subject?+

Most often because of command terms. The IB defines state, describe, explain, analyse, evaluate and discuss with distinct expectations, and an answer written at the wrong level is capped regardless of knowledge. A student who answers an evaluate question with a detailed explanation gets a middling mark, concludes they need more content, revises harder and scores the same. Sorting past questions by command term and writing only the first two sentences of each answer fixes this faster than any amount of further revision does.

How much of a Diploma subject grade is the internal assessment?+

A published share that differs by subject and level, and in every case enough to decide a boundary. The IB publishes the weighting in each subject guide, and the school will confirm it. The important point is that the internal assessment is produced over months, with feedback permitted within defined limits and no clock, which makes it the most controllable part of a grade. It is also the part most often rushed into a deadline, which turns a controllable component into the one that caps the subject.

Can a tutor help with my daughter's Extended Essay?+

With the process, yes, and the process is where most of the marks are decided. A tutor can interrogate the research question until it is narrow enough to argue, help plan backwards from the school's supervision checkpoints, read the published criteria with the student and give feedback on the student's own drafts. A tutor cannot write any part of it, cannot edit it to completion and cannot supply a model essay. The supervision relationship with the school's supervisor remains the formal one, and the tutor works alongside it rather than replacing it.

What is the real difference between Higher Level and Standard Level?+

More than difficulty. Higher Level carries more teaching hours, additional syllabus content the Standard Level course never examines, and in several subjects an extra paper. An HL student sits a different set of papers over a larger syllabus rather than a harder version of the same one. For tutoring that changes the plan: an SL student near a boundary usually needs technique, while an HL student in trouble more often has a content gap in the HL extension material, which arrives later in the course and is taught faster.

Should my son take Maths Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation?+

Check the destination before the preference. Analysis and Approaches is the algebraic, proof-oriented route; Applications and Interpretation is modelling and statistics with technology throughout. Several engineering, mathematics, physics and economics degrees specify Analysis and Approaches, and a student who chose Applications for comfort can find a course closed two years later. Read the entry requirements of a handful of plausible universities before the choice is locked, and ask the school what each route's cohort typically goes on to study.

Does IB Gram send a Diploma tutor to homes in Al Muteena?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we run only in India. All UAE lessons are one-to-one and live over video on Gulf Standard Time. For Diploma work the format suits the material, because the paper, the published criteria and the student's draft are documents that share better on a screen than across a table. The in-home market in Dubai publishes AED 180 to 500 an hour including travel, against AED 150 to 300 for comparable online work.

When do Dubai IB students sit their final exams?+

UAE Diploma candidates sit the May session. We do not publish specific IB examination or results dates on these pages, because the IB's own website blocks automated checking and no date in this project has been confirmed from the IB directly. A date a family plans around has to be right, so confirm the session and results dates with your school's IB coordinator or on ibo.org. For Cambridge qualifications sat alongside, UAE centres sit the June and November series; the February/March series is offered to India only.

How many subjects should we actually pay for tutoring in?+

Fewer than most families start with. Three Higher Level subjects plus Extended Essay coaching is three or four recurring commitments, and very few households sustain that across two years. The shape that works is weighted: one subject weekly at specialist level, short coaching blocks at the points where internal assessment marks are decided, and an intensive block before the session. The same budget spread thinly across six subjects reliably produces no measurable change in any of them.

What does IB tutoring cost in Dubai at the specialist end?+

Published figures put specialist work at AED 200 to 450 an hour and above in Bestimate's rate study, with TutorChase listing around AED 270 and BartyED AED 650 for premium named tutors. Unitors publishes IB from AED 200. At the lower end, Tutopiya advertises from around AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65, which for Diploma work usually buys content help rather than assessment literacy. Monthly, Bestimate estimates AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support.

Is any tutoring provider in Dubai KHDA approved?+

Not in the sense the phrase implies. A KHDA Educational Services Permit is issued to training institutes with premises in Dubai, through a process requiring initial approval and annual renewal. IB Gram holds no such permit and makes no accreditation claim. Individual private tutoring is regulated separately, by permit through MoHRE under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years. If a provider describes itself as KHDA approved, ask to see the permit number, because the phrase is used loosely in this market.

Do private tutors in the UAE need a permit, and can I check?+

Yes. The private tuition work permit was introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Applications go through MoHRE's own smart app, website and e-services system. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so no figure should be quoted at you.

Can the core really change my child's total by three points?+

Yes, and families consistently underrate it. Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay combine on a published matrix to award up to three additional points on top of the forty-two available from six subjects. Three points is the difference between many university offers, and it is often cheaper to earn there than through lifting a subject grade, because both components are written over months with supervision rather than sat under a clock. A student treating the core as paperwork is leaving the most available points on the table.

My child joined the Diploma from IGCSE and is struggling in term one. Is that normal?+

It is common and the reason is usually specific. IGCSE trains examination technique and rewards tightly bounded answers; the Diploma asks for sustained independent work, longer argued writing and research the student designs. Students arriving from MYP have the opposite profile: comfortable with inquiry and process, unpractised at writing to a clock. Either way, term one is where the gap is cheapest to close. Name which of the two profiles your child has and the first eight weeks of support write themselves.

What if no specialist is free for our subject at the time we need?+

We say so rather than filling the slot. Diploma specialisms are narrow, and a particular subject at a particular level at a particular hour does occasionally come up empty, especially in the weeks before a session when demand peaks. The options then are a different time, a different tutor with a proper handover of the student's component plan, or a wait with a date attached. A mismatched tutor in a Diploma subject costs a term the student does not have spare.

Bring the subject list before the worry

If you have been searching for an IB tutor near me in Al Muteena, the most useful thing you can send first is not the problem subject but the whole picture: six subjects with levels, current grades, the state of each internal assessment, and the Extended Essay subject and research question. That inventory usually shows the fastest available points are not where the family expected them to be. The trial lesson works a real paper question live and names whether the loss was content, command term, method or clock, and no payment is taken before it. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. We do not offer home visits in the UAE.
