IB Home Tutor in Umm Al Sheif

Quotes for an IB home tutor in Umm Al Sheif come back higher than quotes for the same tutor two streets into Al Safa, and the reason has nothing to do with teaching. This page compares Umm Al Sheif with Umm Suqeim, Al Safa and Palm Jumeirah on what genuinely differs: school feeds, local supply and what a villa address does to a price. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, never at a UAE address.

  • Four Jumeirah-belt neighbourhoods compared on supply, schools and price
  • The villa premium explained as what it is, a travel and address effect
  • What two children can and cannot share in a one-to-one arrangement
  • Online one-to-one on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are India-only

IB & IGCSE in Umm Al Sheif

The same tutor, two prices, four streets apart

Families in Umm Al Sheif discover something odd when they start asking around for Diploma help. A tutor quotes one rate for a villa off Al Wasl Road and a lower one for an apartment in Al Safa, and occasionally a higher one again for the Palm. The tutor is the same person with the same experience teaching the same syllabus. What has changed is the length of the drive, the parking, the time of day the visit has to happen, and in some cases a judgement about what the address can bear.

That is worth understanding rather than resenting, because it tells you what you are actually buying when you buy an in-home hour. In-home one-to-one visits in Dubai are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour once travel is absorbed, with Bestimate's rate table at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors asking AED 200 to 500. A qualified subject tutor teaching online is quoted at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. The gap is travel, scarcity and address, in that order.

The second thing a comparison across this belt reveals is that the neighbourhoods differ far less than the quotes do. Umm Al Sheif, Umm Suqeim, Al Safa and Al Manara draw on an overlapping set of schools, sit within ten minutes of each other, and have a resident tutor supply that is broadly similar and broadly generalist. Palm Jumeirah is the exception, because the causeway makes it a genuinely awkward destination at 5pm and the quotes reflect that honestly.

Where the belt is genuinely well served is in schools. The Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim corridor holds some of the longest-established British and IB schools in Dubai within a short drive, which is why so many families live here. What it does not hold, because nowhere does, is a reliable supply of resident specialists in a particular Diploma subject at a particular level. A Chemistry Higher Level specialist free at 6.30pm is not an address-dependent commodity.

IB Gram's position is plain. Teaching is one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, at a fixed weekly hour. We do not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we run in India only. The in-home market here is real and is priced in this page with sources attached so you can judge the alternative with numbers rather than impressions. What the online model removes is precisely the premium that your postcode attracts. What follows is the four-way comparison, the villa premium broken into its parts, the school map of this belt, what two children can and cannot share, which subjects the coast is short of, and what two Diploma years cost from an address like yours.

At a glance

  • Umm Al Sheif, Umm Suqeim, Al Safa and Al Manara draw on an overlapping school set
  • Palm Jumeirah quotes are higher for a real reason: the causeway at 5pm
  • The in-home premium pays for travel, scarcity and address, not for better teaching
  • One-to-one means one student; two children can share an evening but not an hour
  • UAE schools sit the May Diploma session; confirm specific dates with your coordinator
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three IB programmes run along this stretch of the coast, and families here ask about all three, often at once within one household.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, with Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and the creativity, activity and service requirement. Most subjects carry an internally assessed component marked by the school and moderated by the IB, typically around a fifth of the grade. Points accumulate across two years rather than being decided in one examination fortnight.

Diploma provision along the Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim corridor is good and the subject menus differ school by school, particularly at Higher Level where cohort size decides what runs. A family here comparing two schools should ask which Higher Level subjects actually ran last year rather than which appear in the prospectus.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Criterion-referenced across eight subject groups, with each subject assessed on four criteria and a Personal Project in the final year. Grades arrive as criterion levels rather than percentages, which is the thing parents most often ask a tutor to translate, and the standard or extended mathematics split in MYP 4 matters more than it looks.

Several coast schools run the full continuum, so a child can move from the primary years into the Diploma in one building. That continuity is a genuine advantage and it also means the first Diploma internal deadline comes from teachers who already know the student and set expectations accordingly.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1 to Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Inquiry-led and transdisciplinary, with no external examinations and mathematics and literacy embedded in units of inquiry rather than timetabled as separate subjects in the British manner. Support here is about number fluency and written method, and short frequent sessions suit it better than long ones.

Dubai PYP schools deliver the mandatory UAE subjects from the primary years, with KHDA requiring separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ between the groups.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The Diploma subjects coast families ask for, and the component that usually prompts the first message.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

The algebraic route, with a non-calculator paper and an additional investigation paper at Higher Level. Requests cluster in the first term of DP1, when the pace of the algebra outruns a student who was comfortable at IGCSE or in MYP extended mathematics.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling and statistics with technology permitted throughout. Requests arrive later, usually in DP2, when the Higher Level statistical content turns out to be considerably harder than the course's reputation on the school run.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organic chemistry divides Higher Level students, and calculation accuracy accounts for most of the rest. The internal assessment loses marks in data processing rather than in experimental design, which is a quick and specific fix.

Physics

HL and SL

Uncertainty treatment and graph linearisation cost more marks than any gap in physics, and fields and electromagnetic induction are where Higher Level students stall. Both are mathematics problems wearing a physics label.

Biology

HL and SL

Content volume plus command-term precision. Students who revise by rereading hold a great deal and cannot deploy it, and the remedy is answering past questions under timed conditions rather than covering the syllabus again.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy and evaluation structure decide the essay papers, with quantitative questions added at Higher Level. The internal assessment is a set of commentaries on published articles, and article selection is the rushed step.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Unseen analysis, the comparative essay, the individual oral and at Higher Level the essay. The oral is the component most often left unrehearsed and the one that rehearses best on video, because the format is already a conversation.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tool-based analysis and a research project at Higher Level. Students describe a business rather than applying a framework to it, which is a writing-structure problem and among the faster things to improve.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

Core, all students

The essay is capped at 4,000 words with a school-appointed supervisor; Theory of Knowledge carries an exhibition and a prescribed-title essay. Both are coached rather than taught, and the boundary on what a tutor may do is tighter here than anywhere else.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three arrangements coast families use for Diploma support, all delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

One subject, both Diploma years

A fixed weekly hour in the subject that most threatens the points total, running from DP1 to the session. The advantage is that the tutor sees the internal assessment from topic choice rather than meeting it as an emergency, and the cost spreads across two years rather than concentrating in the final term.

  • Same slot weekly, held through both years
  • Internal assessment supported from the topic stage onward
  • A termly review against the school's own predicted grade
  • Session notes written so a coordinator could read them

Consecutive slots for two children

Two one-to-one sessions back to back on the same evening, usually 6pm and 7.15pm, for households with two Diploma or MYP students. One-to-one means one student in the session, so an hour cannot be shared, but an evening can, and one weeknight is far easier to sustain than three.

  • Separate tutors if the subjects differ, same evening either way
  • Each child gets a full one-to-one hour, not a split one
  • Keeps the household's weeknight pattern intact
  • Notes sent separately, since the students are assessed separately

Travel-continuous schedule

Sessions that continue through a long summer or a mid-term trip abroad, with the time zone agreed once rather than renegotiated weekly. For families on this stretch of coast, who travel more than most, this is the single most common reason for choosing video delivery over an in-home arrangement.

  • Time-zone shift settled before departure
  • Lighter frequency while away, kept rather than paused
  • Well suited to internal assessment drafting, which needs calm weeks
  • Returns to the usual Gulf Standard Time slot on arrival back

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Umm Al Sheif

01

Umm Al Sheif against Umm Suqeim, Al Safa and Palm Jumeirah

Set the four side by side and the similarities outweigh the differences. All four draw on an overlapping set of schools along the Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim corridor and out toward Al Sufouh. All four are within about ten minutes of each other outside peak hours. All four have a resident tutor supply that is small relative to demand and weighted toward generalists rather than Diploma subject specialists. None of them contains a reliable supply of, say, a Chemistry Higher Level tutor free on a Tuesday at 6.30pm.

What differs is density and access. Al Safa, with its mix of apartments and villas, supports more local tutoring activity simply because more people live within a short distance, and in-home quotes there come in lower for the same person doing the same job. Umm Al Sheif and Al Manara are low-density villa districts where a visit means a dedicated drive. Umm Suqeim has the best school access of the four. Palm Jumeirah is a genuine outlier, because the causeway and the frond layout turn a short map distance into a long journey at exactly the hour a session needs to start.

Door times are similar across the belt and worse than the map suggests. School runs along this corridor are short in distance and slow in practice between 3pm and 4pm, with the Al Wasl Road and Jumeirah Beach Road crossings doing most of the damage. Students are home between about 3.40pm and 4.20pm on an ordinary day and after 5pm on an activity day, which puts the durable session window between 6pm and 7.30pm in all four areas.

So the comparison resolves to one conclusion for all four: the differences are logistical and the right decision is identical. Choose a tutor by subject, level and component experience, set the hour after the real door time, and decline to pay a premium that reflects a drive rather than a difference in teaching. In Al Safa that is a mild saving. In Umm Al Sheif and on the Palm it is a substantial one.

Why a villa address changes the quote and not the lesson

  • The taught hour is identical wherever it happens
  • Low density means a dedicated round trip rather than back-to-back visits
  • Scarcity within a twenty-minute radius prices upward regardless of quality
  • The address effect is the component you can decline rather than negotiate
  • Specialism does not correlate with postcode, and specialism is what moves a grade

Break an in-home quote into its parts and three of the four have nothing to do with teaching. The first part is the hour taught, which is the same wherever it happens. The second is travel time, which for a low-density villa district means a dedicated round trip rather than a visit squeezed between two others nearby. A tutor who can teach three consecutive hours in one Al Safa tower cannot do the same across Umm Al Sheif, and the difference lands in the rate.

The third part is scarcity, which is the quiet one. A tutor hireable within a twenty-minute radius of any single Dubai neighbourhood is drawn from a small pool, and small pools price upward regardless of quality. The fourth is the address effect, which some independent tutors apply deliberately and others arrive at by instinct, and which is worth naming because it is the component a family can simply decline to pay rather than negotiate down.

What a parent gets for all of that is convenience, which is a real benefit and should be priced as one, and an adult physically in the room, which genuinely matters for a younger or less independent child. What they do not get is a better-matched tutor. Diploma subjects split into Higher and Standard Level, mathematics splits into two separate courses, and the sciences split again by internal assessment component. The person who has taken four students through a Physics internal assessment is not more likely to live near you because your road is nice.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in Dubai or anywhere in the UAE, so there is no version of this service where a tutor arrives at an Umm Al Sheif address. Home tutoring is a service we run in India only. Every lesson here is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, which means the fee reflects the hour taught and the specialism, and nothing else. If an adult in the room is genuinely your requirement, hire an independent local tutor and ask to see their MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free to obtain and valid for two years.

03

The school map of this belt, and who feeds what

The reason families pay to live along this corridor is the schools, and on that measure the area delivers. Within a short drive of Umm Al Sheif sit several of the longest-established British schools in Dubai and several running the IB Diploma or the full continuum, alongside schools in Al Sufouh and the Al Barsha edge reached by Sheikh Zayed Road. For a family choosing a home around a school, this belt has more genuine options inside fifteen minutes than most of the city.

What that does not translate into is uniform Diploma provision. Higher Level subject menus differ between schools and depend on cohort size, so a subject listed in a prospectus may not have run last year. The question to ask at an admissions meeting is which Higher Level subjects actually ran in the most recent cohort and how many students took them, because a Higher Level class of four is a different experience from one of eighteen, and a subject that did not run is not an option at all.

Internal assessment calendars also differ across the belt, by a fortnight or more between the Jumeirah corridor and the Al Sufouh cluster. For a household with two Diploma students at different schools, that means two separate deadline peaks rather than one, and a tutoring plan built around a single family schedule will collide with one of them. Get both internal calendars in September.

On inspection, Dubai private schools are inspected annually by KHDA on a six-band scale, and the published report carries far more useful detail than the headline band. For a Diploma family the sections worth reading are secondary phase attainment and progress in the relevant subjects, and the commentary on teaching in the secondary phase. We do not publish ratings we have not read on the regulator's own site, and a strong overall band built on a good primary phase says little about Year 12 chemistry.

Two children, one evening: what can and cannot be shared

Households along this belt often have two or three children in the system at once, frequently at different schools and in different programmes, and the question that follows is whether tutoring can be shared. The honest answer has two parts. An hour cannot be shared: one-to-one means one student in the session, because two students in an hour is a group class with two people in it and the attention halves. An evening can be shared, and that is where the real saving sits.

Consecutive slots, typically 6pm and 7.15pm, give each child a full one-to-one hour while costing the household one weeknight rather than two or three. Each child gets their own notes, because they are assessed separately and a shared note is useless to both. If the subjects differ the tutors differ, and that is fine; the point of the arrangement is the household's calendar rather than the tutor's.

A genuine group arrangement is a different product and worth considering on its own terms. Two students in the same subject at the same level with the same school scheme can work productively together, particularly for timed practice and mark-scheme discussion, and the cost per child falls substantially. It fails when the two are at different levels, at different schools, or when one needs a topic the other already holds, which in practice is most sibling pairs.

The cheapest arrangement of all for a household with several children is the one families overlook: one child's session plus structured self-study for the others, with the tutored subject chosen as the one that most threatens a points total. Buying help for three children because there are three children is the same error as buying three sciences because there are three sciences, and it produces the same result.

The subjects this coast is short of

Demand along this belt is not evenly spread, and the pattern is consistent enough to plan around. The heaviest Diploma demand is in Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at both levels, Chemistry at Higher Level and Physics at Higher Level, in that order. Those are also the hardest matches to make at a prime evening slot, and they are the subjects where resident local supply is thinnest in every one of the four neighbourhoods compared above.

Biology and Economics are easier to match and are requested later in the cycle, usually after a DP2 mock rather than in DP1. English A: Language and Literature requests cluster around the individual oral, which is a specific component rather than a subject-wide problem and which rehearses unusually well on video. Business Management requests are usually about writing structure rather than content.

The genuinely scarce categories are two. The first is a tutor with experience of one specific internal assessment component, which is a narrower pool than a subject specialist and which matters because the component carries around a fifth of the grade. The second is anything in a minority Diploma subject: a language B at Higher Level in a less common language, or a subject that only a handful of Dubai schools run at all.

The practical consequence is about lead time rather than price. For a common Standard Level subject at a mid-evening slot in term time, a match usually takes days. For a Higher Level science specialist, allow up to a fortnight, and longer in the eight to twelve weeks before the May session when that pool is tightest. If nobody suitable is free at your preferred hour we will say so and offer the nearest real option rather than filling the slot.

What two Diploma years actually cost from this address

Set the numbers out across two years rather than per hour, because that is how the decision is really made. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour arrangement run roughly AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for a specialist in an examination year. Over two academic years in one subject, the middle band alone is a significant household commitment, and it deserves a deliberate decision rather than a drift.

Converted to hourly, the Dubai market sorts cleanly. Budget online platforms advertise from AED 33 to 65, with Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. A qualified subject tutor online is quoted at AED 150 to 300, with Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. IB specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase at AED 270. Premium named tutors reach AED 500 to 650 and more, with BartyED at AED 650. In-home visits sit at AED 180 to 500 once travel is absorbed.

The two errors that cost coast families most are buying the premium tier for everything and buying hours in the wrong term. Timed-paper marking and accuracy drilling do not need a tutor at AED 500 an hour; internal assessment topic screening at Higher Level does. Twenty sessions in April of DP2 cost the same as twenty spread through DP1 and achieve less, because the April sessions arrive after the coursework has been submitted and the content window has closed.

For household context, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, under the emirate's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. School fees are flat, which makes tutoring the moving line in an education budget and the one worth planning deliberately. Every figure above was published by the provider named and read in October 2026.

The travelling family, and the gap nobody plans for

Households on this stretch of coast travel more than most, and the pattern is predictable: a long summer away, a substantial winter break, and often a mid-term trip. For a Diploma student those absences land on specific parts of the calendar, and one of them is genuinely consequential. The summer between DP1 and DP2 is when internal assessment work should be drafted, because it is the only stretch with no competing deadlines, and it is also when most families are out of the country.

An in-home arrangement stops at the airport. A video arrangement does not, provided the time zone is agreed once rather than renegotiated weekly and the frequency is set lower than term time rather than aspirationally the same. Two sessions a week during July, aimed at drafting rather than teaching, converts the summer from a gap into the most productive stretch of the two years. It is the single most common reason coast families choose video delivery over a local tutor.

The winter break has a similar shape with less at stake. In DP2 it sits just before the mock window, which makes it the right time for one or two timed papers and a proper review rather than for new content. A student who sits a paper in the first week of January has a diagnosis before the mocks rather than after them, and that changes what the whole spring term is spent on.

Mid-term trips are mostly a scheduling nuisance rather than an academic problem, with one exception: a trip that lands immediately before an internal deadline. That is worth checking against the school's own calendar in September, because the deadline will not move and the trip usually can. Families discover this collision in the week it happens with remarkable regularity.

08

What a higher price cannot buy

Since this page is largely about price, it should be explicit about what no amount of money purchases in this market. It does not buy a grade. Nobody can promise a particular points total, a particular subject grade or university admission, and an offer to do so should end the conversation rather than start a negotiation. It does not buy a regulator's approval either: IB Gram holds no accreditation, licence or partnership from KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB, Cambridge International or Pearson, and claims none. A tutoring business with premises and staff in Dubai would need a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute; we operate no premises in the UAE.

It does not buy a school relationship. We do not describe any named school or group as a partner or client, because we have no such arrangement with any of them; students we support attend schools across Dubai, which is a different and true statement. Any provider listing a long roster of schools as partners should be asked what the relationship actually is, and in this market the answer is frequently nothing.

It does not buy coursework. We do not produce, rewrite or edit assessed work in any subject at any price, and where an internal assessment, Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge essay or Personal Project is involved a tutor teaches the content, explains the criteria, demonstrates a worked example on a completely different topic, and reads the student's own draft and asks questions. At least one site ranking for these searches sells completed internal assessments; the consequence of buying one falls on the candidate, who can lose the diploma.

And it does not buy board material. Syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to the IB and the examination boards, and your child's school has legitimate access. A tutor working from them in a session is ordinary practice; a site hosting a download library is distributing someone else's property. What a higher price can legitimately buy is a scarcer specialism, which is why internal assessment screening at Higher Level is worth paying up for and timed-paper marking is not.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Umm Al Sheif

The four neighbourhoods this page compares, plus the rest of the coast, with what each one actually offers.

Umm Al Sheif

An established villa district between Al Safa and Umm Suqeim, reached from Al Wasl Road and Sheikh Zayed Road. Low-density, quiet after 6pm, and with a resident tutor supply that is thin and largely generalist despite the area's reputation.

Umm Suqeim

Villas and some of the longest-established British and IB schools in Dubai within a short drive. The strongest school access on this stretch of coast and the same generalist local tutor supply as its neighbours.

Al Safa

A mix of villas and apartments, and the most tutoring supply of the four because density supports it. In-home quotes here tend to come in lower than for Umm Al Sheif for the same tutor and the same subject.

Al Manara

Immediately inland, villa streets with quick access to Sheikh Zayed Road. Effectively interchangeable with Umm Al Sheif for school access and for tutoring logistics, which is part of this page's point.

Palm Jumeirah

The genuine outlier. The causeway and the internal fronds make a 5.30pm in-home visit a real undertaking, and quotes from this address are higher for an honest reason rather than an opportunistic one.

Jumeirah 1, 2 and 3

The older beachside strip, with schools of long standing and narrow internal roads. School runs here are short in distance and slow in practice between 3pm and 4pm.

Al Wasl

The inland corridor that carries most of this belt's traffic. Relevant because a tutor crossing it at 5.40pm to reach Umm Al Sheif is building a buffer into their schedule and charging for it.

Al Sufouh

Toward Dubai Media City, with established schools and university campuses. Part of the overlapping school set that makes these neighbourhoods more similar than their price differences suggest.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level and the component

Including whether mathematics is Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, and whether the problem is a paper or an internal assessment. That one line narrows the tutor pool correctly before anything else is discussed.

  2. 02

Give us both school calendars if you have two children

Internal deadlines along this belt differ by a fortnight or more between the Jumeirah corridor and the Al Sufouh cluster, so a two-child household has two deadline peaks rather than one. Planning around a single family schedule collides with one of them.

Pick the hour after the real door time

Door times across Umm Al Sheif, Umm Suqeim, Al Safa and Al Manara land between about 3.40pm and 4.20pm, later from the Palm and later again on activity days. We aim for the slot that works in week nine, not week one.

  4. 04

Trial lesson, forty-five minutes, live online

Real work on the actual problem, with no card details collected. Afterwards you get a written note naming what the tutor found, what they would do first, and what they would deliberately leave alone.

  5. 05

Review at four weeks against one measure

Marks on a paper, a draft completed, an error count. If the measure has not moved the method changes or the tutor does, and that conversation is scheduled rather than left to the end of term.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The premium named for what it is

An in-home quote for a low-density villa district pays for a dedicated round trip, for scarcity within a short radius, and sometimes for the address itself. None of those three improves the hour taught, and the last is simply declinable.

A comparison that reaches a conclusion

Umm Al Sheif, Umm Suqeim, Al Safa, Al Manara and Palm Jumeirah set side by side on density, supply, quotes and door times, with the same recommendation in each: choose on subject, level and component.

Honest sharing advice

An hour cannot be shared between two children without halving the attention; an evening can, at full rate each, and that is where the real saving sits. A genuine pair session works only at the same level on the same papers.

Availability stated with lead times

Mathematics AA and the Higher Level sciences are the tight matches on this coast, and in the weeks before the May session they are tighter. We give a lead time rather than filling the slot with whoever is free.

Rates attributed and dated

Every AED figure here was published by the provider named and read in October 2026, including the in-home band, so the premium can be examined rather than assumed. We quote our own rate after a free trial.

Clear about what money cannot buy

Not a grade, not a regulator's approval, not a school relationship, not coursework and not board material. The absence of those claims is the most checkable thing on this page.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Umm Al Sheif: your questions answered

Why is the in-home quote for Umm Al Sheif higher than for Al Safa?+

Three reasons, none of them teaching. Umm Al Sheif is a low-density villa district, so a visit is a dedicated round trip rather than one of three in the same tower, and the unpaid driving lands in the rate. Local supply within a twenty-minute radius is small, and small pools price upward. And some independent tutors apply an address effect, deliberately or by instinct. The Dubai in-home band is AED 180 to 500 an hour once travel is absorbed, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online tutor.

Do you send tutors to villas in Umm Al Sheif or on the Palm?+

No, not to any UAE address. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and home tutoring is a service we run in India only. The Dubai in-home market exists and is priced on this page with sources, so you can judge it fairly: visits are quoted at roughly AED 180 to 500 an hour and monthly packages at AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four two-hour sessions. If an adult in the room is your requirement, hire independently and ask to see the MoHRE permit.

Is Palm Jumeirah genuinely harder to serve than the mainland streets?+

Yes, and the higher quotes from that address are honest rather than opportunistic. The single causeway and the frond layout turn a short map distance into a real journey at exactly the hour a session needs to start, so a tutor visiting the Palm at 5.30pm is committing a large block of unpaid time. It is the one place on this belt where the in-home premium reflects something physical. Online delivery removes the problem entirely, which is why uptake there is high.

Can our two Diploma children share a tutoring hour to save money?+

Not usefully. One-to-one means one student in the session, and two students in an hour is a small group class in which the attention halves. What works is sharing an evening: consecutive slots at 6pm and 7.15pm, full rate each, giving each child a complete hour while costing the household one weeknight instead of three. A genuine pair session is a different product and works only when both are in the same subject at the same level working on the same papers.

Which Higher Level subjects are hardest to book on this side of Dubai?+

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, Chemistry and Physics, in that order, and the position tightens considerably in the eight to twelve weeks before the May session. For a common Standard Level subject at a mid-evening slot in term time a match usually takes days. For a Higher Level science specialist allow up to a fortnight. Narrower again is a tutor with experience of one specific internal assessment component, which matters because that component carries around a fifth of the grade.

What should we ask a school along this belt before we enrol?+

Which Higher Level subjects actually ran in the most recent cohort and with how many students, because a subject in a prospectus that did not run is not an option and a Higher Level class of four is a different experience from one of eighteen. Also ask for the DP1 and DP2 internal assessment deadline dates, which differ by a fortnight or more between the Jumeirah corridor and the Al Sufouh cluster, and how the mandatory UAE subjects are organised into separate classes by group.

When is the best time in two Diploma years to spend money on tutoring?+

The spring of DP1, on internal assessment topic screening, which costs a few hundred dirhams and sets the mark ceiling on a component worth around a fifth of a subject grade. After that, a weekly hour from DP1 in the single subject that most threatens the points total. The worst value is twenty sessions in April of DP2, which cost the same as twenty spread through DP1 and arrive after the coursework is submitted and the content window has shut.

Can sessions keep running while we are away for the summer?+

Yes, and the summer between DP1 and DP2 is the most productive stretch of the two years if you use it. It is the only period with no competing deadlines, which makes it the right time for internal assessment drafting. Agree the time-zone shift once before departure rather than renegotiating weekly, and set a lower frequency than term time rather than an aspirational one. Two sessions a week in July aimed at drafting converts a gap into an advantage.

Is the winter break worth using for anything in the second Diploma year?+

For one or two full timed papers with a proper review, not for new content. The break sits immediately before the mock window at most Dubai schools, so a student who sits a paper in the first week of January has a diagnosis before the mocks rather than after them, and that changes what the whole spring term is spent on. The other thing worth doing is checking whether any internal deadline lands immediately after the break, because that work has to happen during it.

Does a strong KHDA inspection band mean our child will not need help?+

No, and the band is also coarser than it looks. Dubai private schools are inspected annually on a six-band scale and the published report carries the useful detail: secondary phase attainment and progress in the specific subjects, and the commentary on teaching in the secondary phase. A strong overall band built on an excellent primary phase says little about Year 12 chemistry. We do not publish ratings we have not read on the regulator's own site.

Is a premium tutor at AED 600 an hour worth it for Higher Level work?+

For some tasks and not for others. Timed-paper marking, accuracy drilling and command-term work are delivered just as well by a qualified subject tutor in the AED 150 to 300 band. Internal assessment topic screening at Higher Level, and content rebuilding in a genuinely difficult area such as fields or organic chemistry, benefit from somebody who has taught that material to Diploma standard. Buying the top tier for everything is the standard overspend on this side of the city.

Do you work with the schools in Umm Suqeim and Al Safa?+

No, and we would not claim to. IB Gram has no affiliation, partnership, contract or endorsement from any school or school group, and we name schools only to describe the local education context. Students we support attend schools across Dubai, which is a different statement from a partnership. Any provider listing a long roster of schools as partners is worth asking what the relationship actually consists of, because in this market the answer is frequently nothing at all.

Can a tutor help finish an internal assessment that is behind schedule?+

Within a boundary we state to the student in the first session. A tutor teaches the content, explains how the criteria distribute marks, demonstrates a complete worked example on an entirely different topic, reads your child's own draft and asks questions about method, evidence and whether the analysis reaches the level claimed. A tutor does not choose the topic, supply the content, write or rewrite a passage, or edit the draft into shape. A malpractice finding falls on the candidate rather than on anyone else.

What is the smallest sensible amount of Diploma support to buy?+

One diagnostic session plus a small screening block at the internal assessment stage, which for most families is three or four hours in total across DP1. If a subject is genuinely misunderstood rather than underperforming, add a bounded block in the autumn of DP2 with a stated number of sessions and an end date. That is considerably less than most agencies propose, and for a student who is broadly coping it is usually what actually changes the outcome.

Decline the postcode premium, buy the specialism

Umm Al Sheif, Umm Suqeim, Al Safa, Al Manara and Palm Jumeirah differ in density, in drive time and in what a tutor will quote, and barely at all in what they can supply. Nowhere on this belt holds a reliable stock of Higher Level subject specialists free at 6.30pm. So name the subject, the level and the component, pick the hour after the real door time, share an evening rather than an hour if you have two children, and spend the saved premium on scarcer specialism instead. Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home tutoring is an India-only service. Last reviewed 22 October 2026.
