IB Home Tutor in Al Habtoor City

Parents searching for an IB home tutor in Al Habtoor City usually want one thing: somebody who knows the syllabus their child is actually sitting. IB Gram matches students in the Noora, Amna and Meera towers with Diploma Programme subject specialists and teaches them live, one-to-one, over video on Gulf Standard Time. The syllabus comes first on this page: components, weightings, command terms and the past-paper work that moves a grade.

IB & IGCSE in Al Habtoor City

Start with the syllabus, not the search radius

A search for an IB home tutor in Al Habtoor City is a search for proximity, but proximity is not the variable that decides a Diploma Programme grade. The variable is whether the person sitting with your child has taught the exact course on the exact syllabus, and can name the component weightings without looking them up. A Maths Analysis and Approaches Higher Level student sits three papers and an exploration; Paper 3 alone carries twenty per cent of the grade and has no equivalent at Standard Level. A tutor who has never set a Paper 3 question will teach the first two papers well and leave a fifth of the grade untouched.

Al Habtoor City sits on Sheikh Zayed Road between Business Bay and Al Safa, three residential towers above a hotel and theatre complex, with the Dubai Water Canal on one side and Safa Park across the road. It is a dense, vertical, professional neighbourhood. The children living in it attend schools scattered from Al Safa and Jumeirah through to Al Sufouh and Al Barsha, which means the house next door may hold a student on a completely different curriculum. Local tutor supply therefore tells you very little about local demand, and a tutor two minutes away is still the wrong tutor if they teach Mathematics Applications and your child is sitting Analysis.

IB Gram answers the question honestly. Tutoring for families here is delivered online, one-to-one, over live video, with a shared whiteboard and the past paper open on screen. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; door-to-door home tutoring is a service we run only in India. That is not a workaround. It is what lets a family in a Sheikh Zayed Road tower book a Chemistry Higher Level specialist who has marked the Reactivity topics for years, instead of the best available teacher within a twenty-minute drive at five o'clock on a weekday.

What follows is built the way a subject teacher would build it. The second section lays out the Diploma Programme assessment architecture component by component, with Standard and Higher Level weightings side by side. The third does the same for command terms, because the command term is the mark scheme: a question that says 'outline' and a question that says 'evaluate' want different paragraphs, and students lose marks on perfectly correct physics by answering the wrong verb. After that come the subject-level failure modes, what tutoring costs in this market in AED with each figure attributed, how past papers should actually be used, and where the academic-honesty line sits on an Internal Assessment.

Prices are quoted as the market, never as a promise. Published rates on the Dubai market run from roughly AED 45 an hour for a university-student tutor working online to AED 650 for a named premium specialist, and the spread tells you more about who is teaching than about the quality of the teaching. Those numbers are in the rate table below with the provider that published each one, so you can check them yourself rather than take our word for any of it.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Students in the Al Habtoor City towers come through the three IB programmes in sequence, and the syllabus demands change sharply at each handover. What a tutor needs to know differs completely between a PYP enquiry unit, an MYP criterion and a DP paper.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. Marked out of 45, with 24 the conditional pass. Each subject carries internally assessed work worth 20% to 30% and externally marked papers for the rest. The grade a student finishes with is mostly decided by how precisely they answer the command term in front of them, which is why syllabus-specific teaching matters more here than in any earlier programme.

Dubai students sit the May session, which is the one the emirate's schools build their calendars around. The November session functions as a resit and a route for students arriving mid-cycle. Teaching for Al Habtoor City families is scheduled on Gulf Standard Time, typically between 16:00 and 21:00 on weekdays, so a session fits after the Business Bay or Al Safa school run rather than competing with it.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups, each assessed against four criteria worth eight marks apiece, so 32 marks convert through published boundaries into a 1-7 grade. There is no end-of-course paper unless a school opts into eAssessment. The Personal Project in MYP 5 is marked across three criteria out of 24. Tutoring here is criterion work: knowing what Criterion C in Sciences actually rewards is worth more than extra content coverage.

Several schools serving the Jumeirah and Al Safa catchment run MYP to year 5 and then split students between the Diploma Programme and IGCSE, which makes MYP 4 the year the decision quietly gets made. Families in the Al Habtoor City towers often ask for MYP support precisely at that point, to keep both routes open.

DP CoreAges 16-19 · across both DP years

Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS

The Extended Essay is a 4,000-word independent research piece with a supervisor; the TOK course produces a 1,600-word essay on a prescribed title plus a 950-word exhibition commentary. Together the Extended Essay and TOK essay contribute up to three points on the 45-point scale. Both are student-owned work, so support is process coaching: question framing, source discipline, structure and feedback on drafts the student has written.

Extended Essay supervision inside Dubai schools varies by department, and students in the Jumeirah cluster regularly arrive with a research question too broad to answer in 4,000 words. Narrowing it is the single highest-value hour of coaching available, and it has to happen early in the first DP year rather than in the term the essay is due.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the Diploma Programme subjects families on the Sheikh Zayed Road corridor request most, with the part of each course where marks are genuinely won or lost rather than a general description of the syllabus.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Paper 1 is sat without a graphic display calculator and punishes shaky algebra; Paper 2 allows one and punishes shaky calculator technique. At Higher Level, Paper 3 presents two extended investigative problems worth 20% of the grade. Proof by induction, complex numbers and the Maclaurin series are where Higher Level students most often stall.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Heavier on statistics, modelling and technology use than Analysis. Chi-squared tests, regression and confidence intervals recur. Students lose marks by reporting calculator output without interpreting it, and by failing to state hypotheses and conclusions in the terms the mark scheme asks for.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Organised into Structure 1-3 and Reactivity 1-3. Energetics calculations, equilibrium and organic mechanisms account for most dropped marks. Paper 1 is 36% of the grade and Paper 2 is 44%, with the Scientific Investigation making up the remaining 20% across both levels.

Physics

HL and SL

Themes A to E, from space, time and motion through to nuclear and quantum physics. Uncertainty propagation, graph gradients with units and the long structured questions on Paper 2 are the recurring weak points. Higher Level content sits inside the same themes rather than in a separate add-on section.

Biology

HL and SL

Built on the unity-and-diversity and form-and-function themes at four levels of organisation. Students who revise by memorising definitions tend to fail the application questions, which ask them to read unfamiliar data and apply a named process to it rather than recall it.

Economics

HL and SL

The internal assessment is a portfolio of three commentaries, each 800 words, built on recent news articles and worth 30% at Standard Level. Diagram accuracy with fully labelled axes carries real marks, and Higher Level Paper 3 is a quantitative paper that rewards practice rather than reading.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Paper 1 is unseen guided textual analysis, Paper 2 a comparative essay on studied works, plus the Individual Oral on a global issue. Higher Level adds a 1,200-1,500 word essay. Students lose marks by summarising content instead of analysing how the writer's choices produce an effect.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tools such as the Ansoff matrix and the business canvas are examinable, not decorative. Case-study papers reward candidates who apply a named tool to the specific firm in front of them. Quantitative elements, including break-even and investment appraisal at Higher Level, are frequently under-practised.

Psychology

HL and SL

The biological, cognitive and sociocultural approaches, with research methods threaded through all three. Marks turn on precise use of named studies as evidence for a specific claim, and at Higher Level on the extended response questions that demand a counter-argument.

Arabic and the mandatory UAE subjects

School-dependent streams

Dubai private schools must teach Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies alongside the licensed international curriculum. KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students because the curriculum expectations and language of instruction differ, so support has to be matched to the correct stream rather than to the subject name.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways families on this stretch of Sheikh Zayed Road use IB Gram. All three are delivered as live one-to-one video lessons on Gulf Standard Time, with recordings and written notes after each session.

Weekly one-to-one on a single subject

One sixty or ninety-minute session a week against a named subject and level, running alongside the school's scheme of work. The tutor works from the student's own class materials and past papers rather than a generic course, so the session supports what is being taught that fortnight instead of running in parallel to it.

  • Same tutor each week, same slot, booked for a term
  • Written summary and two or three targeted past-paper questions after each session
  • Paper-by-paper tracking against the actual component weightings
  • Recordings kept so a missed concept can be revisited before a test

Component-targeted blocks

A fixed block of sessions aimed at one assessment component: Maths Paper 3, the Physics Scientific Investigation, the Economics commentary portfolio, the Individual Oral. Used when the rest of the course is fine and a single component is dragging the grade down, which is the most common pattern among students in this cluster.

  • Four to eight sessions with a defined finish point
  • Built backwards from the school's internal deadline
  • Mark-scheme work on the student's own attempts
  • Clear handover back to the class teacher at the end

Two-subject evening stacking

Households running two Diploma Programme students, or one student needing two subjects, book consecutive slots on the same evening so the family protects the rest of the week. Common in the Al Habtoor City towers, where the school day ends at different times for different children in the same flat.

  • Back-to-back slots with different subject specialists
  • One schedule, one point of contact
  • Ramadan and exam-term timings adjusted together
  • Sessions can be paused during mock weeks and resumed after

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Habtoor City

01

What a search for an IB home tutor in Al Habtoor City is really asking

  • Proximity decides travel time; subject match decides the grade
  • Six subjects at two levels means six different assessment structures
  • Lessons are live video on Gulf Standard Time, not in-home visits
  • Find the failing component before buying hours against the whole course

The phrase means: find somebody competent, soon, who can teach my child the course they are sitting without the family having to drive anywhere. Two of those three requirements have nothing to do with geography. The third is a request to remove travel from the arrangement, and a live video lesson removes it more completely than a tutor who still has to reach Sheikh Zayed Road through a weekday evening.

What a parent is buying is subject depth. The Diploma Programme is six courses sat at two different levels with a different assessment structure in almost every subject group, which means a tutor who is genuinely strong in Chemistry Higher Level is usually not the same person who is strong in Maths Applications. Hiring on proximity forces a compromise on exactly the thing that decides the grade. Hiring on subject, which online delivery makes possible, does not.

The honest position is this. IB Gram matches students in Al Habtoor City with Diploma Programme subject specialists and teaches them one-to-one over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. The comparison table in the pricing section below sets the two formats against each other on cost, travel and tutor pool so you can judge the trade rather than take it on trust.

The rest of this page is syllabus. If you already know which component is failing, skip to it. If you do not, the architecture section tells you how to find out: look at the weightings, look at the last two internal grades, and work out which component is holding the aggregate down. That single calculation usually identifies the problem faster than any diagnostic test.

02

The Diploma Programme assessment architecture, component by component

Every Diploma Programme subject splits its grade between externally marked papers and internally assessed work, and the split is published. A parent who knows the split can see immediately where the hours should go. A student sitting Chemistry at either level carries 20% of the final grade in a Scientific Investigation marked out of 24 against four criteria, which means a weak investigation costs more than a weak Paper 1 section.

The table below sets out the components for the subjects most requested along this corridor, with Standard and Higher Level weightings beside each other. Two things usually surprise families. The first is how much of the grade sits in work completed during the course rather than in the examination hall. The second is how different the Higher Level structure can be from Standard Level in the same subject: Maths Higher Level adds a whole extra paper, while English A Higher Level redistributes weight into an additional essay.

Read the table as a budget. If a student has fifteen weeks before the final internal deadline and the investigation is worth a fifth of the grade, then a quarter of the available tutoring hours belongs to that investigation rather than to content revision. Most families discover this too late, after the coursework has been submitted at a mark that caps the grade regardless of how the papers go.

One caution on dates. The Dubai schools in this cluster sit the May session, and the November session functions as a resit route. Specific IB examination and results dates are not published here because they must be confirmed against the official IB source or your child's Diploma Programme coordinator before anybody plans around them.

Command terms are the mark scheme, and most lost marks are command-term errors

A Diploma Programme question is an instruction. The verb at the front tells the examiner what the mark scheme will accept, and a student who writes a beautiful explanation in answer to a question that said 'state' has wasted the paragraph without earning the mark. This is the most fixable category of lost marks in the entire programme, and it is almost never taught explicitly in class because the class is busy covering content.

The pattern is consistent across subjects. 'Outline' wants a brief account with no development; 'explain' wants a reason or mechanism; 'discuss' wants a balanced review that presents more than one position; 'evaluate' wants a judgement supported by evidence and an acknowledged limitation. In the sciences, 'determine' signals that a calculation and a final answer with units are expected, while 'suggest' invites a plausible hypothesis the student is not required to have met before.

The table below lists the terms that recur most in Higher Level papers across the sciences, Maths and Economics, what the examiner is actually looking for, and the failure that costs students marks. The way to use it in a session is mechanical: take a past paper the student has already attempted, circle the command term in each question, then re-mark their answer against the verb rather than against the content. Students typically find two or three marks per paper this way within one session.

This is also where a non-specialist tutor is least useful. Knowing the physics is not the same as knowing that a six-mark 'discuss' question in Paper 2 needs a structure, or that 'compare and contrast' requires similarities and differences explicitly signposted rather than two separate descriptions left side by side for the examiner to reconcile.

COMMAND TERMS, WHAT THEY OBLIGE AND HOW MARKS GET LOST
Command termWhat the examiner wantsTypical mark valueWhere the mark goes missing
StateA brief answer, no explanation or working1 markStudent writes a paragraph and still misses the required term
OutlineA brief account of the main points2 marksTreated as 'explain', so time is spent for no extra credit

DetermineA calculation leading to a stated answer with units2-4 marksCorrect method, no units or no final statement
DiscussA balanced review presenting more than one position4-6 marksOne-sided argument with no counter-position
EvaluateA judgement supported by evidence and limitations6-8 marksEvidence given but no judgement actually reached
Compare and contrastSimilarities and differences, both signposted4-6 marksTwo separate descriptions, no explicit comparison
04

Where students on this corridor actually lose marks, subject by subject

  • Maths: a Paper 1 and Paper 2 gap points at algebra, not at topics
  • Sciences: uncertainty propagation, gradients with units, significant figures
  • Chemistry: energetics, equilibrium and organic mechanisms first
  • Economics: unlabelled diagrams and commentary that never cites the article
  • English A: retelling the text instead of analysing the writer's choices

Marks are lost in predictable places, and the places differ by subject in ways a parent can check against a returned paper. In Maths Analysis and Approaches, the damage is concentrated in Paper 1, because it is sat without a graphic display calculator and exposes algebraic fluency that the calculator has been quietly covering for all year. A student who scores well on Paper 2 mocks and badly on Paper 1 mocks does not have a topic problem, they have an algebra problem, and the fix is drill rather than reteaching.

In the sciences, two failure modes dominate. The first is uncertainty and graph work: propagating an uncertainty, reading a gradient with correct units, deciding how many significant figures a final answer may legitimately carry. The second is the long structured question in Paper 2, where students know the content but produce answers that collapse under a six-mark command term. In Chemistry specifically, energetics and equilibrium calculations and the organic mechanisms account for a disproportionate share of dropped marks.

In Economics, diagrams are marked. Axes have to be labelled, curves have to be named, the new equilibrium has to be shown rather than described, and the commentary has to connect the diagram to the article it was built on. In English A, the single most common loss is summary masquerading as analysis: a student who retells the text accurately earns very little, while one who explains how a specific choice of structure or register produces an effect on a reader earns the band.

A first session is spent diagnosing which of these is happening rather than teaching anything. The evidence is already in the house: the last two returned papers, the teacher's comments, and the pattern of marks lost by question type. Reading those three together usually identifies the problem inside forty minutes and makes the remaining hours useful instead of general.

05

What IB tutoring costs around Sheikh Zayed Road, and who publishes each figure

Three of the six best-ranking tutoring pages for Dubai publish no price at all, and two of the three that do quote in US dollars, which is not the currency a Dubai family transacts in. So here are the market bands in AED with the provider that published each one, read in October 2026. These are market rates, not an IB Gram price list: our own quote follows a free trial lesson and depends on subject, level and how many sessions a term actually needs.

Start at the bottom rather than the top, because that is where most families start. EdFlik advertises online tutoring from AED 45 to 65 an hour and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52, both drawing largely on university-student tutors. That price buys supervision and homework help. It does not reliably buy somebody who can mark a Higher Level Paper 3 answer against the real mark scheme, and the gap shows up in exam terms rather than in term one.

The middle band is where most Diploma Programme teaching sits. Unitors publishes IGCSE tutoring from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200. TutorChase quotes AED 270. Bestimate's Dubai rate table puts IB, IGCSE and A Level specialists at AED 200 to 450 and above, with in-home one-to-one visits at AED 180 to 350 and independent home tutors reaching AED 500. At the top, BartyED publishes AED 650 an hour for a premium named tutor.

Monthly figures are often more useful than hourly ones for budgeting. Packages seen on the Dubai market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home visits. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a single weekly hour run AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Set against KHDA's confirmation on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for the 2026-27 academic year, a tutoring budget is now the part of the education bill a family still controls.

Past papers are a diagnostic instrument, and most students use them as revision

  • Sit it timed, mark it strictly, then classify every lost mark
  • Four causes: content, command term, execution, time
  • A thin final third means pacing, not weak content
  • Official papers come from the school; we do not redistribute them

A past paper worked through with the mark scheme beside it tells you precisely which marks a student cannot currently earn. A past paper worked through for practice tells you how the student feels about the subject. The difference between the two is whether anybody reads the result properly, and this is the single biggest change a good tutor makes to how a student revises.

The method is unglamorous. Sit the paper under timed conditions. Mark it against the published scheme without generosity. Sort every lost mark into one of four causes: the content was not known, the content was known but the command term was misread, the method was right and the execution slipped, or time ran out. Those four causes need four completely different responses, and treating them all as 'needs more revision' is why months of work sometimes move a grade by nothing.

Time pressure deserves separate attention because it is the cause students least often name. If the final third of a Paper 2 is consistently thin while the first third is strong, the problem is pacing and the fix is a timing protocol rather than more content. For Higher Level Maths Paper 3, where two extended problems carry 20% of the grade, pacing is most of the skill: a student who spends forty minutes on the first problem has already lost the second.

A note on materials. IB, Cambridge and Pearson syllabus documents, past papers and mark schemes are copyright and are not reproduced or distributed by IB Gram. Sessions work from the official sources your child's school already provides, from the subject guides their teachers issue, and from questions written for the session, with the official syllabus pages linked rather than copied.

07

Academic honesty: the line a tutor may not cross on an IA, EE or TOK essay

This matters more in this market than almost anything else on the page, because the search results for Dubai IB help include operators selling finished Internal Assessments outright. One such site advertises completed IAs for several thousand dirhams. Buying one is academic misconduct under IB rules and puts the student's whole diploma at risk, not just one subject grade.

The boundary is clear and it is worth stating in plain terms. A tutor may teach the criteria, explain what each one rewards, discuss a proposed research question, point out where a method will not generate usable data, show the student how to mark their own draft against the published descriptors, and give written feedback on work the student has produced. A tutor may not write any part of the exploration, the investigation, the essay or the commentary, may not supply text to be pasted in, and may not edit a draft into a finished state on the student's behalf.

In practice the most valuable honest help arrives before any writing happens. Most weak Scientific Investigations are weak because the research design could never produce enough data to analyse, and that is visible in ten minutes to somebody who has read the criteria. Most weak Extended Essays are weak because the question is too broad for 4,000 words. Fixing either of those is teaching, it is fully permitted, and it moves more marks than any amount of polishing at the end.

Supervision also sits with the school, not with us. Your child's Internal Assessment and Extended Essay are signed off by their teacher and coordinator, who confirm the work is the student's own. Anything a tutor does has to survive that conversation unchanged, and we work on the assumption that it will be checked.

08

KHDA, the mandatory UAE subjects and what they do to a DP timetable

  • KHDA inspects Dubai private schools on six bands, Outstanding to Very Weak
  • ADEK, SPEA, the RAK Department of Knowledge and the MoE cover the other emirates
  • Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies run alongside the IB in Dubai
  • Separate Arab and non-Arab classes are required; combined classes are prohibited
  • Mandatory-subject time is counted in 40-minute units, 25 minutes the advised floor

Private schools in Dubai are overseen by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, which is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate and inspects schools annually on a six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak. Abu Dhabi has its own authority in ADEK, Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Ras Al Khaimah has its Department of Knowledge, and the federal Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. IB Gram holds no permit, licence or accreditation from any of these bodies and claims none.

The part that directly affects a Diploma Programme timetable is the mandatory subject requirement. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies run in Dubai private schools regardless of the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's requirements were to be implemented by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Schools must organise separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and Social Studies, because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ between the two groups. Combined classes are prohibited.

Instructional time for these subjects is calculated on a 40-minute lesson unit, schools may vary lesson length provided the weekly total is met, and KHDA advises that no mandatory subject lesson should run shorter than 25 minutes. Using different or additional content for these subjects without prior Ministry of Education permission is not allowed, which is why support in these streams has to follow the school's own material rather than an alternative syllabus. Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Education are required to hold the appropriate KHDA approval for those subjects.

The practical consequence for a family in Al Habtoor City is that a Diploma Programme week already carries more timetabled hours than the six-subject model suggests, which is why a tutoring slot has to be placed carefully rather than squeezed in. It is also why two sessions a week is a heavier commitment in Dubai than the same two sessions would be elsewhere, and why most families here start with one and add the second only in an exam term.

Where we tutor

Nearby areas we cover around Al Habtoor City

Al Habtoor City sits inside a stretch of Dubai where the school catchments overlap heavily. These are the neighbouring communities whose families book the same Diploma Programme specialists, with the detail that changes how a session is scheduled.

Business Bay

Immediately inland across the Dubai Water Canal, and the nearest Red Line metro station to the Al Habtoor City towers. Students here often finish the school day late because of the canal-side traffic, which pushes a first realistic session start towards 17:00.

Al Safa

Directly across Sheikh Zayed Road, villa stock and the catchment for several long-established British-curriculum schools. A short physical hop that can still cost twenty minutes at the Safa interchange on a weekday afternoon.

Al Wasl

Low-rise and residential, feeding the same Jumeirah school cluster. Families here frequently run two children on different curricula, so sessions get stacked back to back in one evening rather than spread across the week.

Jumeirah 1

Coastal, older villa communities, closest to the Jumeirah school strip. Pick-up is early relative to Al Barsha schools, which makes a 16:00 start workable here when it is not elsewhere in the cluster.

Jumeirah 3

Further along the coast towards Umm Suqeim, with a longer run back from the Al Sufouh and Al Barsha schools. Evening sessions after 18:00 are the norm for Diploma Programme students in this stretch.

Umm Suqeim

Villa communities serving a mix of British and IB schools. Higher Level science students here commonly have after-school laboratory or Creativity, Activity, Service commitments that fix tutoring to two specific evenings.

Palm Jumeirah

Apartment and villa stock with a single road in and out, so travel time is unpredictable in a way that online scheduling simply removes. Diploma Programme demand here skews towards Maths and the sciences.

Al Manara and Al Safa 2

Quiet inland villa pockets between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Wasl Road, feeding the Jumeirah and Al Barsha schools. Requests cluster around Economics and English A in the first Diploma Programme year.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Habtoor City

Al Safa, Al Wasl and Jumeirah

The nearest dense school cluster to Al Habtoor City, mostly British curriculum with IGCSE at 16 before splitting into A Level or the Diploma Programme. Students arriving into DP1 from this cluster often need a term of support simply to adjust to internally assessed work, which IGCSE barely prepares them for.

  • Jumeirah Primary School
  • JSS Private School
  • Latifa School for Girls

Al Sufouh, Al Barsha and the coast

Where most of the full IB continuum sits within reach of the Sheikh Zayed Road corridor. Several of these schools run the Primary Years Programme through to the Diploma, so a student can be criterion-assessed for years before meeting an external paper for the first time in DP1.

Schools are named to describe the curriculum landscape around Al Habtoor City and because students we support attend them; no affiliation, endorsement or partnership with any school or school group is implied.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the subject, the level and the component

A short form or message with the subject, whether it is Standard or Higher Level, the school, and the component that is causing trouble. 'Chemistry HL, Scientific Investigation due in six weeks' is enough to match properly. 'Needs help with science' is not, and usually leads to a tutor who is wrong for the job.

  2. 02

We match on subject depth, then on schedule

Subject and level come first, because that is what decides the grade. Then we fit the slot to your week: a Business Bay or Al Safa school run, after-school laboratory sessions, Creativity, Activity, Service commitments, and in Ramadan a post-Iftar time if that works better for the household.

  3. 03

A free trial lesson before anything is paid

A full first session at no cost, with no card required. The tutor diagnoses rather than teaches: last two returned papers, the teacher's comments, the pattern of marks lost by question type. You get a written note afterwards saying what they found and what the first block of sessions would target.

  4. 04

Weekly sessions with written notes and tracking

The same tutor, the same slot, a written summary and targeted past-paper questions after each session, and progress tracked against the actual component weightings rather than a general sense of improvement. Recordings are kept so a concept can be revisited before a test.

  5. 05

Change the tutor or stop, without an argument

If the match is wrong, say so and we move the student to a different specialist. If no specialist is free in a niche subject at the level you need, we say that plainly instead of filling the slot with a generalist, and we tell you when one is expected to be available.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Specialists by subject, not by driving distance

A family in the Al Habtoor City towers gets a Chemistry Higher Level teacher who has worked through the Reactivity topics repeatedly, rather than the strongest generalist who can reach Sheikh Zayed Road by five o'clock. Online delivery is what makes that choice available, and it is the whole argument for the format.

Prices on the page, attributed to their source

The AED table above names the provider behind every figure and the month it was read. Most competing pages publish no price at all; two quote in dollars. You can check each number against the source rather than trusting a range with nobody's name on it.

Coursework help that stays inside the rules

Criteria taught, research questions challenged, drafts given feedback, self-marking shown. Nothing written for the student, nothing supplied to be pasted in, nothing edited into a finished state. The work your child submits has to survive their coordinator's sign-off, and we write on the assumption that it will be checked.

Honest about availability

Where a subject at a given level has thin cover, we say so and give you an expected date rather than assigning somebody who will be learning the syllabus alongside your child. A disclosed gap costs us a booking; an undisclosed one costs a student a term.

Scheduling that respects a Dubai week

Slots are set on Gulf Standard Time around the school run, laboratory afternoons and Creativity, Activity, Service. Sessions can be paused through mock weeks and resumed afterwards, and timings shift during Ramadan to post-Iftar where a family prefers it.

No claims we cannot evidence

No regulator approval, because IB Gram holds none. No school presented as a partner. No grade promises and no statistic without its source and date. The tutoring market in Dubai is full of all four, and a page that avoids them is easier to check.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Habtoor City: your questions answered

Can I actually get an IB home tutor in Al Habtoor City who comes to the tower?+

Not through IB Gram. Tutoring for UAE families is delivered one-to-one over live video, and door-to-door home tutoring is a service we run only in India. In-home tutors do work on this corridor independently, and the Dubai market prices those visits at roughly AED 180 to 350 an hour according to Bestimate's rate table, with some independent tutors charging up to AED 500. What you give up by booking a visit is choice: your options narrow to whoever can reach Sheikh Zayed Road on a weekday evening, which rarely includes a specialist in the exact subject and level your child is sitting.

How do I know whether a tutor really knows my child's IB syllabus?+

Ask three questions before you book. First, what are the component weightings for this subject at this level? A specialist answers without hesitating. Second, how many marks is the internally assessed piece worth and what are its criteria called? For the sciences the answer is 24 marks across four criteria; for a Maths exploration it is 20 marks across five. Third, what is the difference between a question that says 'outline' and one that says 'evaluate'? A tutor who cannot separate those two will teach content well and lose marks on the paper anyway.

Which IB component should we spend the tutoring hours on first?+

Work it out from the weightings rather than from how the student feels. Take the last two internal grades per component, multiply each by its published weight, and find which component is pulling the aggregate down hardest. If a Scientific Investigation is worth 20% of a science grade and the draft is sitting mid-band, that single piece of coursework outweighs several topics of content revision. Most families discover this after submission, when the mark has already capped the grade, which is exactly the wrong time to find out.

My child scores well in Maths mocks on Paper 2 but badly on Paper 1. Why?+

Paper 1 is sat without a graphic display calculator and Paper 2 is not, so a gap between them is almost always algebraic fluency rather than a topic gap. The calculator has been quietly covering for shaky manipulation all year, and Paper 1 removes the cover. The fix is drill on algebraic technique under timed conditions, not reteaching the topics, and it moves faster than most parents expect because the underlying understanding is usually already there. A diagnostic first session looking at the two mock papers side by side will show this within about forty minutes.

What does IB tutoring cost per hour for a family on Sheikh Zayed Road?+

Published Dubai market rates read in October 2026 run from AED 33 to 65 an hour at the budget online end, where EdFlik and Tutopiya both operate, through AED 150 to 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online, with Unitors listing IB from AED 200. Specialist IB, IGCSE and A Level rates sit at AED 200 to 450 and above, TutorChase publishes AED 270, and BartyED advertises AED 650 for a premium named tutor. Those are market figures with sources, not our price list. IB Gram quotes after a free trial lesson, based on subject, level and the number of sessions a term genuinely needs.

Is a cheap online tutor at AED 50 an hour worth trying first?+

It depends what you need. At that price you are generally buying a university-student tutor who can supervise homework, keep a routine and recap content, and for a student who is simply not sitting down to work that may be exactly the problem solved. What it does not reliably buy is somebody who can mark a Higher Level answer against the real scheme or restructure a failing Internal Assessment. The usual pattern is that the gap stays invisible through term one and appears in the first set of mock results, which is an expensive way to learn it.

How many marks is the DP Scientific Investigation worth and how is it marked?+

In the current Chemistry, Physics and Biology courses the Scientific Investigation is worth 20% of the final grade at both Standard and Higher Level, and it is marked out of 24 across four equally weighted criteria covering research design, data analysis, conclusion and evaluation. The report has a 3,000-word limit. The most common reason an investigation underperforms is a research design that could never generate enough usable data, which is a problem of planning rather than writing, and it is visible to anybody who has read the criteria before the student starts collecting.

Can a tutor help my child with their IB Internal Assessment legally?+

Yes, within clear limits. A tutor may teach the criteria, explain what each one rewards, challenge a research question, point out a method that will not produce analysable data, show the student how to mark a draft against the published descriptors, and give written feedback on work the student wrote. A tutor may not write any part of it, supply text to be inserted, or edit a draft into a finished state. Operators in this market do sell completed assessments; buying one is misconduct under IB rules and risks the whole diploma rather than one subject grade.

Do private tutors visiting Al Habtoor City need a permit, and how would I check?+

Yes. Private tutoring in the UAE runs on a work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. The permit is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered at government or private schools, government and private sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without one are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Ask any tutor directly whether they hold one; the official route is the MoHRE private tutor licensing service.

Which exam session will my child in Al Habtoor City sit?+

Dubai schools build their Diploma Programme calendars around the May session, and the November session exists as a resit route and a path for students joining mid-cycle. Specific IB examination and results dates are deliberately not published on this page: the official IB source blocks automated checking, so any date here would be unverified, and an unverified date a family plans around is worse than no date. Confirm the window with your child's Diploma Programme coordinator or on the official IB assessment pages before booking travel or scheduling a revision block around it.

How does an online session work when the subject needs diagrams and working?+

Through a shared whiteboard, with the student writing and the tutor annotating in the same space, which is closer to sitting side by side at a table than most parents expect. A past paper is open on screen, the student works through a question in real time, and the tutor marks the attempt against the scheme as it appears. Sessions are recorded, so a derivation can be rewatched the night before a test. For the sciences, data, graphs and uncertainty calculations are worked on the same shared surface rather than described.

What happens if no tutor is free for a niche Higher Level subject at an Al Habtoor City address?+

We tell you, and we give you an expected date rather than filling the slot. Thin cover shows up most in the smaller Higher Level subjects and in particular language combinations, and a tutor learning the syllabus alongside your child is worse than waiting two weeks for the right one. Where a UAE-based specialist is not available, a specialist elsewhere in our network teaches the session on Gulf Standard Time, and we say so before you book rather than after. A disclosed gap costs us a booking; an undisclosed one costs a student a term.

Can Al Habtoor City sessions move to post-Iftar timings during Ramadan?+

Yes, and for most households in this cluster that works better than the usual slot. School hours shorten, afternoons are used differently and concentration in the late afternoon drops, so a session that normally runs at 17:00 is often more productive after Iftar. We reset the timetable for the month and move it back afterwards. The same flexibility applies to mock weeks and internal deadline crunches, when families frequently pause weekly sessions entirely for a fortnight and resume once the school's own assessment calendar clears.

Does my child still need Arabic and Islamic Education alongside the IB?+

In a Dubai private school, yes. Arabic, Islamic Education and Social or Moral Studies are required alongside the licensed international curriculum, and KHDA's current requirements were to be in place from the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Schools must run separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students in those subjects because the curriculum expectations and the language of instruction differ. Instructional time is counted in 40-minute units. Support in these streams has to follow the school's own material, since using different or additional content needs prior Ministry of Education permission.

Is one session a week enough for a Higher Level subject in Al Habtoor City?+

For most students in a non-exam term, yes, provided the hour is used for diagnosis and correction rather than re-delivering the lesson. One properly marked past-paper section a week, with the lost marks classified and the specific weakness drilled, outperforms two hours of general review. In an exam term or when a major internally assessed piece is due, families here commonly add a second session for a defined block of weeks and then drop back. Starting with one and adding later is also the cheaper way to find out what is actually needed.

Book a free trial lesson and find out which component is costing the grade

The first session costs nothing and no card is required. The tutor spends it diagnosing rather than teaching: the last two returned papers, the teacher's comments, and the pattern of marks lost by question type. You get a written note afterwards naming the component that is holding the grade down and what the first block of sessions would target. Tell us the subject, the level and the deadline you are working to, and we will match a Diploma Programme specialist to it and fit the slot around your week in Al Habtoor City. If we do not have the right person free, we will say so and tell you when we expect to.
