IGCSE Science Tutor in Al Habtoor City

An IGCSE science tutor in Al Habtoor City is being asked to cover between one and three separate qualifications, and the first job is working out which. This page sets triple award against double and combined, names the syllabus codes your child is entered for, explains how practical skills are examined without a laboratory, and lays out how three subjects fit into one revision term. Lessons run one-to-one, online, over live video, in Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Habtoor City

Three sciences, two or three grades, and one revision term

The phrase IGCSE science hides a decision most parents in Al Habtoor City were never formally told about. Depending on the school and the set, a Year 11 student is sitting either three separate science qualifications, a double award worth two grades, or a single combined award worth one. Those are different syllabuses with different codes, different paper structures and very different volumes of content. A family asking how long revision will take cannot be answered until that is established, and the answer is on the examination entry rather than in the school newsletter.

Cambridge runs separate sciences as Biology 0610, Chemistry 0620 and Physics 0625. It also runs Co-ordinated Sciences 0654, a double award covering all three disciplines for two grades, and Combined Science 0653, a single award for one. Pearson Edexcel runs separate International GCSEs as 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1, and a Science Double Award as 4SD0. Each route has its own past-paper library, and a student practising on the wrong one is working hard in a dialect nobody is speaking in the hall.

Practical work is the second thing families get wrong. Nobody sits a laboratory examination in front of a tutor, and online delivery changes nothing about how practical skills are assessed. Cambridge separate sciences examine practical skills either through a practical test or through an alternative-to-practical written paper, and the alternative route is what most international centres use. That paper is examinable technique: reading a measuring instrument, identifying a variable, spotting what is wrong with a described method, drawing a table before the data arrives. Those are taught on paper, and they are among the most reliably recoverable marks in the subject.

The third problem is arithmetic rather than science. Three subjects in one term is a scheduling problem, and the usual outcome of leaving it unplanned is that the strongest subject gets revised because it is pleasant and the weakest gets avoided because it is not. A written plan that allocates the weeks across three sciences by marked evidence rather than by preference is most of the value of hiring anybody. We start there, with a marked paper from each discipline, before any teaching happens.

Al Habtoor City is a cluster of residential towers and hotels on Sheikh Zayed Road, between Business Bay and Al Safa, with the Dubai Water Canal along one side. No school sits inside the development, so students here travel out to Al Safa, Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Barsha or the Al Quoz axis each morning and come back in the afternoon through the worst of the traffic. IB Gram works with these families online, one-to-one, over live video. Home visits are an India-only service; we do not send tutors to UAE addresses, and for a household juggling three sciences the ability to put a biology session on Monday and a physics session on Wednesday without two car journeys is the practical argument.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Science requests from these towers come in at three stages, and the right work is different in each. The stage matters more than the subject, because the volume of content at IGCSE is what makes timing decisive.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

IGCSE Sciences, separate or awarded together

The two-year course ending in the June or November series. Separate sciences give three grades and carry the most content; the co-ordinated double award gives two grades across all three disciplines; the combined single award gives one. Tutoring divides between content recall, calculation method and the practical-skills paper, and the proportions should follow a marked script rather than a general plan.

British-curriculum schools near Al Safa and Jumeirah usually set the route in Year 9 or early Year 10, often by set rather than by choice, and parents frequently learn which route their child is on from a mock timetable. Ask the science department for the codes on the entry. A double-award student revising separate-science papers is doing more work than the examination will ever ask for.

Lower SecAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Years 7 to 9 science, before the route is set

The years in which the triple or double decision is effectively made, usually on set performance. The skills that decide it are not scientific: rearranging a formula, handling standard form, reading a graph, converting units. Work at this stage is cheap, unglamorous and changes which route the school offers, which is a far larger effect than a grade boost in Year 11.

Al Habtoor City has a high proportion of families who arrived in Dubai mid-phase, and a Year 8 or 9 arriving from another system is often placed on evidence that reflects unfamiliarity rather than ability. If the long-term aim is separate sciences and then Diploma or A Level sciences, the conversation with the school belongs in Year 9, not after the first Year 10 report.

Post-16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

What the science route allows afterwards

The route taken at sixteen shapes the options at seventeen. Schools in Al Safa, Al Barsha and Al Sufouh split into A Level and IB Diploma pathways, and higher-level sciences in either assume a particular depth of prior study. Separate sciences are the comfortable preparation; a double award can work, and it usually needs deliberate bridging work in the summer between.

Where a student is aiming at medicine, engineering or a physical-science degree, check the published entry requirements of the actual universities rather than relying on general advice. UAE and overseas institutions differ in what they specify, and the requirement is usually about the post-16 qualification, with the IGCSE route mattering because of what it makes achievable.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the science codes we are asked to cover from this part of Dubai, with what each one actually demands. The code is the thing to confirm before any revision plan is built.

Biology (Cambridge 0610)

Core and Extended

Content-heavy and vocabulary-dependent. Marks are lost on imprecise terminology and on long-answer questions where the required number of distinct points was never counted.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620)

Core and Extended

Moles, concentration and yield are proportional reasoning in disguise. State symbols and charges carry marks, and they are treated as wrong rather than untidy when omitted.

Physics (Cambridge 0625)

Core and Extended

The science that punishes weak algebra hardest: rearranging formulae, standard form, reading a gradient. Students strong in biology often struggle here for purely mathematical reasons.

Co-ordinated Sciences (Cambridge 0654)

Double award, Core and Extended

All three disciplines for two grades. Less content than three separates, and the same practical and calculation demands, so revision has to be planned across disciplines rather than within them.

Combined Science (Cambridge 0653)

Single award

One grade across the three disciplines. Timing is the main enemy in the papers, and timing responds to pacing practice rather than to more content teaching.

Biology (Pearson 4BI1)

Single tier

Pearson's separate biology, with question wording noticeably different from Cambridge. Students who revise on the wrong board's papers lose marks to phrasing rather than knowledge.

Chemistry (Pearson 4CH1)

Single tier

Calculator use throughout shifts the risk from arithmetic to rounding and interpretation. The practical-skills content is examined in writing rather than in a laboratory.

Physics (Pearson 4PH1)

Single tier

Formula-driven and graph-heavy. The transferable gain for a student heading to Diploma or A Level physics is algebraic fluency, which is worth building deliberately.

Science Double Award (Pearson 4SD0)

Double award

Two grades across the three disciplines on Pearson's route. The content is narrower than three separates and the examination technique demands are identical.

Mathematics (0580 / 4MA1)

Core, Extended, Foundation, Higher

Frequently the real cause of a science problem. Rearrangement, ratio and standard form appear inside physics and chemistry questions, and repairing them lifts two grades at once.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of science support cover nearly every request from Al Habtoor City. All run online, one-to-one, over live video, in Gulf Standard Time.

One discipline, weekly

The most common arrangement: a weekly session in the single science that is dragging the set of grades down, usually physics for algebraic reasons or biology for terminology reasons. Running one subject properly beats running three thinly, and in most cases fixing the weakest discipline also lifts the other two because the underlying skill was shared.

  • A written coverage map against the specification for that code
  • Short retrieval work between sessions rather than long problem sets
  • Calculation method taught as method, then mixed so the student must choose
  • Practical-skills questions included from the first month

Split-subject timetable

For students who genuinely need two or three sciences, usually in the final term. Different tutors on different evenings, with one written plan shared between them so nobody is teaching the same thing twice and the practical paper is not left to whoever remembers it. Households find the coordination more valuable than the teaching, because it removes the avoidance problem.

  • One plan across disciplines, allocating weeks by marked evidence
  • Two or three fixed evenings, never two sessions in one night
  • A shared error tally so patterns across subjects are visible
  • The practical-skills paper assigned explicitly to one tutor

Pre-series paper block

An eight-week run before the June or November series, structured backwards from the examination. Diagnosis and the two worst topics first, then whole papers under time, then two weeks of error elimination with nothing new introduced. For three sciences this is where the written allocation matters most, because there is no slack left to absorb a bad week.

  • Week one is a marked paper in each discipline being sat
  • Two priority topics per subject, written down and not quietly changed
  • Papers marked against the published scheme, not by impression
  • The final fortnight adds no new content by design

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Al Habtoor City

The tutors listed here teach IGCSE science to examination rather than in general. Most cover two of the three disciplines to a high level and are honest about the third, because a student revising three sciences in eight weeks is better served by two specialists than by one generalist claiming all three.

Triple, double or combined: the decision, the deadline and the consequences

This is the first question to settle and it is settled by the examination entry, not by what anyone remembers being told. Separate sciences produce three grades and carry the largest content load. A co-ordinated or double award produces two grades across the same three disciplines with less content. A combined single award produces one grade. All three are legitimate routes, all three are respected, and they are not interchangeable for revision purposes because the past papers differ.

Schools usually make the decision in Year 9 or early Year 10, and often by set placement rather than by family choice. That timing is the part worth acting on. If your child is aiming at Diploma or A Level sciences and is currently placed on a double-award route, the conversation with the department belongs in Year 9 while sets are still fluid. By the spring of Year 11 the entry is lodged and the question has become how to get the best out of the route taken, which is a different and smaller conversation.

The consequences run in two directions. Separate sciences are the more comfortable preparation for higher-level study, because the depth is closer to what post-16 courses assume. A double award is a perfectly workable base and typically needs a short, deliberate bridging block in the summer before Year 12, concentrating on the specific content the separates covered and the double award did not. Nobody should treat a double award as a closed door, and nobody should pretend the gap does not exist either.

The table below sets out the routes with their codes and what each implies for a revision plan. Confirm the codes with your school's examinations officer before using it. A single email asking which syllabus numbers appear on your child's entry removes the largest source of wasted revision time in this subject.

Practical skills without a laboratory: how that paper is actually examined

  • Most international centres use the alternative-to-practical written route
  • Question types are predictable: precision, variables, flaws, tables, graphs, improvements
  • Table headings with units and correct precision are habits, not knowledge
  • Improvements must address the specific weakness described, not a generic one
  • Missed laboratory time is a conversation for the school, not for a tutor

Families worry about practical science and online tutoring, and the worry is aimed at the wrong thing. Practical work for coursework purposes happens in the school laboratory under the school's supervision, and no tutor of any kind participates in it. What a tutor can affect is the examination of practical skills, and that is a written paper. Cambridge separate sciences assess practical skills either through a practical test or through an alternative-to-practical written paper, and most international centres use the alternative route. Pearson examines practical knowledge within its written papers.

That paper is one of the most trainable components in IGCSE science, and it is routinely under-prepared because it looks like laboratory work. The questions are predictable in type: read a scale or an instrument to the correct precision, identify the independent and dependent variables in a described method, state what should be controlled, spot the flaw in somebody else's procedure, complete a results table with appropriate headings and units, plot and interpret a graph, and suggest an improvement that addresses the actual weakness rather than a generic one.

Each of those is teachable on paper, in a session, with the student writing while the tutor watches. Reading a measuring cylinder to the right precision is a skill practised on a diagram. Table headings with units are a habit. Identifying a controlled variable is a routine applied to a sentence. We build practical questions into sessions from the first month rather than saving them for the final fortnight, because they are the component where a student can gain the most for the least content work.

One honest caution: a student who has never handled apparatus will still find some questions unfamiliar, and the school laboratory is where that is remedied. If your child has missed laboratory sessions, raise it with the science department rather than with us. What we can do is make sure the written component is not where marks are lost, and that is most of the practical marks on the papers most Dubai centres sit.

03

Eight weeks, three sciences: how the term is actually allocated

A student sitting three sciences in the same series has roughly the same number of free evenings as a student sitting one, and the usual failure is not laziness but allocation. Left to themselves, students revise the subject they enjoy and avoid the one that frightens them, which is precisely the inversion of what the marks require. The fix is a written allocation based on marked papers in each discipline, agreed at the start and reviewed once in the middle, not renegotiated every week.

The allocation should be unequal. If the marked evidence says physics is twelve marks behind where biology is three marks behind, physics gets most of the weeks. That is uncomfortable for a student who finds physics unpleasant, which is exactly why it needs to be written down and shared with the household rather than left to good intentions. Parents can help here more than they expect, simply by holding the plan rather than policing the hours.

The table below is the shape we use for an eight-week pre-series block across three sciences. It is a template rather than a prescription, and the specific topics come from the marked papers. The two features that matter are that each discipline gets whole-paper practice under time at least twice, and that the last two weeks introduce nothing new in any subject. Students resist that second rule and it is the one that most reliably protects a grade.

A note on dates: the milestones are fixed and the dates are not. Cambridge IGCSE runs in a June series and a November series, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. The February and March Cambridge series is offered to India only, so a Dubai family should disregard any date they see attached to it. Cambridge also allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one. Get the zone-correct timetable from the school.

Where marks go in each of the three sciences

  • Biology: count the scoring points before writing; use the precise term
  • Chemistry: method selection by mixed practice; state symbols and charges are marks
  • Physics: rearrangement, standard form, prefixes, gradients from the line
  • All three: units, precision and reading the actual question asked
  • All three: an agreed order of attack so no question is left unseen

The three disciplines fail in different ways, which is why a single revision method underperforms across them. In biology the dominant loss is terminology and point-counting. A six-mark question wants six distinct scoring points, and a student who writes three good points at length scores three. Teaching a student to count their points before writing, and to use the precise term rather than an approximation of it, recovers marks faster than rereading the textbook.

In chemistry the dominant loss is method selection and notation. A student who can perform a mole calculation on request but does not recognise that a question requires one has a selection problem, repaired by mixed practice rather than more worked examples. Alongside that, state symbols, charges and balanced equations carry marks that students read as presentation. They are not presentation, and the fix is mechanical, which means it holds under pressure.

In physics the dominant loss is mathematical. Rearranging a formula with the unknown on the wrong side, standard form, unit prefixes, and reading a gradient from a drawn line rather than from two plotted points. A student who is genuinely strong in biology and weak in physics usually has a maths problem wearing a physics costume, and the honest diagnosis is worth more than a term of physics content revision. It also explains why repairing it lifts the chemistry grade at the same time.

Across all three, two losses recur. Instruction-reading: an answer in the wrong units, to the wrong precision, or answering a different question from the one asked. And pacing: marks surrendered to questions never reached. Both are procedural, both are measurable from a marked script, and both are cheaper to fix than any content gap.

05

What Dubai charges for science support, and what three subjects costs

Three of the six competitor pages examined for this project publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars. The figures below are market rates taken from published provider pages and the Bestimate Dubai tutoring-cost table, each attributed, so that you can judge a quote you have been given. They are not an IB Gram price list, and nothing on this page should be read as our fee.

The arithmetic that matters for a science family is per-subject rather than per-hour. One weekly session in a single discipline sits in the published mid band of roughly AED 600-1,200 a month; the same arrangement across three disciplines multiplies that, which is the point at which most families reconsider whether all three genuinely need paid support. In our experience they usually do not. Fixing the weakest discipline, which is frequently physics for mathematical reasons, lifts the other two because the underlying skill was shared.

The in-home premium is worth naming precisely because it is where the money goes without buying teaching. Home visits in Dubai are quoted at roughly AED 180-500 an hour against roughly AED 150-300 for a qualified subject tutor working online, with published monthly packages around AED 1,599-1,799 for four two-hour visits and about AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. For three sciences the difference is not marginal: it is the gap between supporting one subject and supporting all three.

For context on where tutoring sits in a Dubai education budget, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that private school fees in the emirate would not increase for the 2026-27 academic year, under an incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. School fees are therefore the fixed part of the budget this year and tutoring is the moving part, which is an argument for deciding the size and duration of a block up front rather than renewing it monthly by default.

Three sciences, one apartment, four weekday evenings

  • Sessions from 17:30 survive a Sheikh Zayed Road afternoon; earlier ones get rescheduled
  • One science per evening, same night each week
  • Hard surface, squared paper, a real calculator, headphones, camera on the page
  • Siblings get staggered slots, not a shared session
  • Ramadan: fewer and shorter sessions, agreed before the month starts

Al Habtoor City students leave the towers each morning for schools in Al Safa, Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Barsha or across Sheikh Zayed Road on the Al Quoz axis. The afternoon return puts most of them home between 15:45 and 16:45 depending on the day and the route. After the lift, a change and something to eat, the first slot that survives a difficult traffic evening is around 17:30. A household trying to fit three sciences into that week has four usable weekday evenings and one weekend, and the plan has to respect that rather than pretending otherwise.

Two rules make it work. Never put two sessions in one evening: the second is attended rather than used, and the student remembers almost none of it. And keep each discipline on the same night each week, so the household knows Wednesday is physics without negotiating it. Those two decisions do more for consistency than any choice of tutor, and they are entirely within a family's control.

Study conditions in a tower apartment need a small amount of preparation. A hard surface rather than a sofa, squared paper, a ruler, the student's own calculator rather than a phone, and headphones so the rest of the household is not in the lesson. The camera is angled at the page, because watching the working appear is where the diagnosis happens in every science. Where two siblings share a space, staggered slots on different evenings work and a shared session does not.

Ramadan shifts the timetable for a few weeks each year and Dubai schools adjust their hours. For a three-science student the sensible adjustment is fewer and shorter sessions rather than the same load pushed later, with work set between sessions reduced accordingly. We agree that revised timetable before the month begins, because those weeks often sit close to a mock series and improvising through them tends to cost the weakest subject first.

07

Equivalency, the five-subject count and why the science route matters later

  • British track: five IGCSE or GCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3
  • Arabic and Islamic Education are excluded from that count of five
  • Plus one A Level at E, or two AS Levels at E
  • American track: IELTS 5, TOEFL iBT 61 or SAT 450 reading and writing; SAT Math 450
  • Confirm how a double award counts with the Ministry, not with a tutoring page

Families in Dubai planning for UAE university entry eventually meet the Ministry of Education equivalency process, and science choices intersect with it. For the British track, the published requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus either one accredited subject at Advanced Level at no less than E or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic Education are not included among the five required subjects. One ranking competitor publishes a six-subject figure, which does not match the published rule.

How a double award counts towards that total is exactly the kind of detail that should be confirmed with the Ministry or the attestation authority rather than taken from any page, including this one. Equivalency is a regulatory process that IB Gram does not perform, influence or guarantee, and the only safe route is the official channel. What we can say is that the question is worth asking in Year 10, when the route can still be adjusted, rather than after results.

For the American track the published requirements are different: English proficiency through a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, with mathematics requiring at least 450 in the SAT Math test. No IB points threshold appears in the source we rely on, so no IB equivalency figure should be published without a reading from the Ministry's own site. We would rather leave a gap than fill it with an unverified number.

The broader point for a science family is that the IGCSE route is a gateway rather than a destination. It determines how comfortable the post-16 sciences will feel, which in turn determines what a university application can credibly aim at. That is an argument for getting the route right at fourteen and for treating a weak third science in Year 11 as a problem worth solving rather than tolerating.

08

Permits, honest limits and what to verify for yourself

Private tutoring in the UAE is lawful and regulated. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is issued through MoHRE, granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's own service page lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, with the application made through its smart app, website and e-services system. Tutoring without a permit attracts fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so any figure you see quoted should be treated as unverified.

IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from Cambridge, Pearson, the International Baccalaureate, KHDA, ADEK, SPEA or the Ministry of Education, and no page here will imply one. We operate no office or centre in the UAE, we do not run home visits anywhere in the Emirates, we do not enter candidates for examinations, and we do not perform equivalency. Those statements exist because competitors in this market imply the opposite, and because a parent deserves to know what they are buying.

On what a tutor may do: teach, explain, set work, mark it and give feedback on the student's own writing. IGCSE sciences include no written coursework in the way the Diploma does, so the question arises less often, but the principle stands for any school-assessed task. A provider offering to supply finished work is offering your child a malpractice risk rather than a service. We also do not reproduce or supply board-owned syllabuses, papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables; we link them, and your child's school has legitimate access through its own subscriptions.

What to verify independently: the syllabus codes on the entry with your school's examinations officer; the zone-correct examination timetable with the same person; the school's inspection judgements on KHDA's own site rather than from a summary; and any individual tutor's permit status directly. Private schools in Dubai are overseen by KHDA, which u.ae describes as responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate; Abu Dhabi and Al Ain by ADEK; Sharjah by the Sharjah Private Education Authority; Ras Al Khaimah by its Department of Knowledge; and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah by the federal Ministry of Education.

Where we tutor

Where Al Habtoor City science students go to school

What matters for an IGCSE science request is which route the local schools offer and when their day ends. These are the neighbourhoods that shape a science week in these towers.

Al Safa

The nearest British-curriculum cluster and the source of most separate-science requests from Al Habtoor City. Extended tier dominates, and triple award is the usual expectation in the higher sets.

Al Wasl

Across the Canal, with an earlier and more predictable school run. Families on this side can sometimes hold a 17:00 science slot that the tower families cannot.

Jumeirah 1, 2 and 3

The coastal strip supplying much of the nearby secondary capacity. Short distances, unreliable journey times, and three sciences competing for the same evenings.

Umm Suqeim

Several secondary schools our Year 10 and 11 students attend. The return along Al Wasl Road is slow enough that double-session evenings rarely work before 17:30.

Al Quoz 1 and Al Manara

Inland, with a strong Indian-curriculum presence alongside British provision. The school day here often ends earlier, which changes what is schedulable midweek.

Business Bay

The immediate tower neighbour, with identical study conditions: a shared table, a busy apartment, and headphones treated as equipment rather than a luxury.

Palm Jumeirah

A common second address for families here, and the clearest example of what a travel-priced visit actually costs in this corner of Dubai once the gatehouse and the trunk are included.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Habtoor City

Al Safa, Al Wasl and the Canal corridor

The closest secondary capacity to the towers and predominantly British curriculum, which is why separate sciences at Extended tier make up most of our work from this postcode. These schools split after sixteen into A Level and Diploma routes, so the science route chosen at fourteen has consequences later.

Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim and Al Sufouh

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the codes before anything else

One email to the examinations officer asking which syllabus numbers appear on your child's science entry, and which tier. That single answer determines which past papers are useful, how much content exists, and whether the practical component is a test or an alternative-to-practical paper. Everything else we do is built on it.

  2. 02

    One marked paper per discipline

We ask for a recent marked paper in each science your child sits. Three marked scripts take twenty minutes to read and tell us where the marks are actually going: terminology in biology, method selection in chemistry, algebra in physics, or instruction-reading across all three. Without them, any allocation of weeks is guesswork dressed up as a plan.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson in the weakest subject

The first session is free and is spent in whichever discipline the scripts identify as furthest behind, working through real questions rather than discussing services. You receive a short written note afterwards naming the two priority topics and the error patterns, and that note is yours whether or not you book anything further.

  4. 04

Agree a written allocation and fixed evenings

Weeks are allocated unequally according to the marked evidence, written down, and shared with the household. Each discipline keeps the same evening each week, and no evening carries two sessions. This is the part families most often skip and the part that most reliably determines whether the block finishes.

  5. 05

Review once, properly, at week four

A second paper in the priority subject is sat and marked at week four, and the error tally compared with week one. If the pattern has not moved we change the approach or the tutor rather than defending either. If the evidence says a subject needs the November series instead, we say so while the entry decision is still open.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The weakest science is identified before anything is sold

Three marked scripts and twenty minutes usually show that one discipline is dragging the set, and that its cause is shared with a second. Fixing that one subject often lifts two grades, which is a cheaper and more honest recommendation than three weekly sessions.

Specialists per discipline, not a generalist across three

Online matching selects on who has taught a specific syllabus to examination rather than on who can reach a tower in the evening. For a student sitting three sciences that means two tutors on two evenings with one shared plan, which is what the subject actually requires.

The practical paper is treated as examinable technique

Precision reading, variable identification, table headings, flaw spotting and improvement suggestions are built into sessions from the first month. It is the component most often left to the final fortnight and one of the most reliably recoverable on the paper.

Rates published with their sources

This page names Dubai market bands in dirhams and says who published each. Three of six competitor pages in this market publish nothing at all, and one asks the price in its own FAQ and then declines to answer. You should be able to tell whether a quote is ordinary before you take a call.

The calendar is treated as a fact

UAE candidates sit the June and November series; the Cambridge February and March series is India-only and has no bearing on a Dubai entry. We also insist on the zone-correct timetable from the school, because Cambridge states it cannot accept responsibility for a candidate who used the wrong one.

Plain about what we are not

A tutor-matching platform with no board or regulator approval, no UAE premises, and no home-visit service in the Emirates. Where this page names KHDA, MoHRE or the Ministry, it is to explain what they do and point you at their own pages rather than to borrow their standing.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Habtoor City: your questions answered

Is my child in Al Habtoor City taking triple or double award science?+

The entry answers it, not the school newsletter. Ask the examinations officer which syllabus codes appear on your child's science entry. Cambridge separate sciences are 0610 Biology, 0620 Chemistry and 0625 Physics, giving three grades; 0654 Co-ordinated Sciences is a double award giving two; 0653 Combined Science is a single award giving one. Pearson equivalents are 4BI1, 4CH1 and 4PH1 for separates and 4SD0 for the Science Double Award. The codes decide how much content exists and which past papers are worth sitting, so getting them in writing is the first useful step in any revision plan.

Can practical science be taught if the lessons are online?+

The examinable part can, and that is what affects the grade. Laboratory work for school purposes happens in the school laboratory under the school's supervision, and no tutor takes part in it. What tutoring affects is the written assessment of practical skills, which most international centres sit as an alternative-to-practical paper. Those questions are predictable: reading an instrument to the right precision, identifying variables, spotting the flaw in a method, completing a results table with units, plotting and interpreting a graph, and suggesting a specific improvement. All of that is taught on paper, and it is among the most recoverable marks available.

Do you send science tutors to apartments in Al Habtoor City?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; sending a tutor to a family address is a service we provide in India only. Science sessions for these towers run one-to-one online over live video in Gulf Standard Time. For a household covering two or three disciplines the format is the practical answer rather than a compromise: a biology session on Monday and a physics session on Wednesday involve no car journeys, each discipline is taught by someone who actually teaches that syllabus, and no session is lost to Sheikh Zayed Road at the wrong hour.

Which science should we pay for if we can only fund one?+

Usually the one furthest behind on marked evidence, which in practice is often physics. The reason is mathematical: rearranging formulae, standard form, unit prefixes and reading gradients are maths skills examined in a physics paper, and the same weaknesses quietly damage chemistry calculations too. Repairing them therefore lifts two grades rather than one. Biology is more often a terminology and point-counting problem, which a disciplined student can address with the right method and less supervision. Send us one marked paper per subject and we will tell you which single discipline gives the best return.

How do you fit three sciences into a Year 11 week in these towers?+

With a written allocation and two firm rules. The allocation comes from marked papers and is deliberately unequal: the subject twelve marks behind gets more weeks than the one three marks behind. The first rule is one science per evening, because a second session in the same night is attended rather than used. The second is the same discipline on the same night each week, so nothing is renegotiated. Students left to allocate their own time revise the subject they enjoy and avoid the one they fear, which is the exact inversion of what the marks need.

When do IGCSE science candidates in Dubai actually sit their papers?+

Cambridge IGCSE runs a June series and a November series; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. Dubai centres typically enter the main Year 11 cohort for the summer window and use November as the resit route. The Cambridge February and March series is offered to India only, so disregard any date you see attached to it. One practical detail matters: Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct timetable version for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an examination after using the wrong one.

My child is on double award but wants to study science after sixteen. Is that a problem?+

Not a closed door, and not something to ignore either. A double award covers all three disciplines with less content than three separates, so a student moving into A Level or Diploma sciences meets some material for the first time that a separates student has already seen. The practical answer is a short, deliberate bridging block in the summer before Year 12, aimed specifically at the content the separates covered. Ask the post-16 science department what they assume students arrive knowing, then close that list. Doing it in the summer is far cheaper than discovering it in the second term.

What does science tutoring cost for a family in this part of Dubai?+

Published market rates put a qualified subject tutor online at roughly AED 150-300 an hour and an IGCSE specialist at about AED 200-450 or more. Monthly figures from the Bestimate Dubai table run around AED 600-1,200 for mid-band weekly support in one subject. In-home visits are quoted at roughly AED 180-500 an hour because the fee carries the journey, with packages around AED 1,599-1,799 a month for four two-hour visits. The multiplication across three sciences is what makes most families choose one discipline properly rather than three thinly. Those figures are the market with sources, not our price list.

Why does a strong biology student struggle with IGCSE physics papers?+

Nine times out of ten it is maths rather than science. Physics requires rearranging formulae with the unknown on the wrong side, fluency with standard form and unit prefixes, and reading a gradient from a drawn line rather than from two plotted points. Biology asks for precise terminology and well-counted long answers, which rewards a different kind of diligence. A student strong in one and weak in the other usually has a specific algebra gap that a few weeks of targeted work closes, and closing it improves chemistry calculations at the same time. That is why we diagnose from scripts rather than from subject labels.

How many marks does a six-mark biology answer actually need?+

Six distinct scoring points, which is not the same as six sentences or a thorough paragraph. Students lose marks here by writing three strong points at length and assuming quality substitutes for coverage. The method is mechanical: read the mark allocation, plan that many separate points in the margin, then write them using the precise terminology rather than an approximation. Two sessions of this on the student's own answers usually changes the habit, and the gain shows up across every long-answer question in the paper rather than only in the topic that was being revised.

Can we do a short marking clinic instead of weekly science lessons?+

Yes, and for some students it is the better purchase. The student sits papers independently, we mark them line by line against the published scheme, and a shorter session covers only the error pattern. It costs less per week than teaching, suits a self-directed Year 11 student who does not need company, and is a sensible way to keep an eye on the two stronger sciences while the weakest one gets proper weekly attention. It is also the honest recommendation for a student who is already working hard and stuck in the same grade band.

Does the Ministry of Education count a double award as one subject or two?+

That is a question for the Ministry or the attestation authority rather than for any tutoring page. What is published for the British track is the overall shape: five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at no less than grade E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic Education excluded from that count, plus either one Advanced Level subject at E or two Advanced Subsidiary Level subjects at E. Equivalency is a regulatory process that we do not perform or influence. Ask it in Year 10 while the science route can still be adjusted, and get the answer from the official channel.

What equipment does an online science session need in a tower apartment?+

Less than people expect. A hard surface rather than a sofa, squared paper and a ruler for graph work, the student's own calculator rather than a phone, and headphones so the rest of the household is not part of the lesson. The camera is angled at the page rather than the face, because watching the working appear is where every science diagnosis happens. Ten minutes of setting this up before the first session removes most of the friction families anticipate. Where two siblings share the space, staggered evenings work and a shared session does not.

What happens if no tutor is available for a specific science syllabus?+

We say so rather than filling the slot with whoever is free. Mainstream requests such as Extended 0620 or 4PH1 are usually matched quickly. Narrower ones, such as 0653 Combined Science or the practical test route rather than the alternative-to-practical paper, draw on a smaller group, and the honest options are a different time, a short wait for the right tutor, or a marking clinic in the meantime so the weeks are not wasted. We also tell you where a tutor is based before you book, rather than after.

Start with the codes and three marked papers

Everything useful in IGCSE science planning follows from two things: the syllabus codes on the entry, and one marked paper in each discipline. The codes tell us how much content exists and how practical skills are examined. The papers tell us where the marks are going and therefore which subject deserves the weeks. Send us both and we will tell you honestly whether the answer is one weekly session, a split timetable across two evenings, or a marking clinic. The trial lesson is free and happens in whichever science the evidence says is furthest behind. Everything runs one-to-one, online, over live video, in Gulf Standard Time, at a time that works once the drive back into Al Habtoor City is done.
