IB Chemistry Tutor in Al Satwa

An IB chemistry tutor in Al Satwa is usually bought by the hour and should be budgeted by the course. This page costs the whole two-year Diploma: what organic chemistry costs to repair, what the internal assessment costs to support properly, where the Higher Level hours actually go, and which parts of the bill produce nothing. Lessons are one-to-one, live online on Gulf Standard Time, free trial first.

IB & IGCSE in Al Satwa

Budget the course, not the hour

Families buy chemistry tutoring by the hour and then discover they have bought a two-year commitment. The hourly rate is the number everyone quotes and the least useful one available, because what determines the total is not the rate but the number of hours the course actually demands — and in Diploma chemistry that number is concentrated in three or four places rather than spread evenly across twenty-four months. Knowing where the hours go is how an Al Satwa household plans a real budget instead of renewing a monthly invoice indefinitely.

Start with the market figures, because nobody in this search cluster publishes them. Three of the six most visible tutoring sites in Dubai publish no price at all; one runs an FAQ asking what tutoring costs and then declines to answer. The two that do quote dollars. In dirhams, as of October 2026: budget online runs roughly AED 33 to 150 an hour, with Tutopiya from about AED 33 to 52 and EdFlik from AED 45 to 65. A qualified subject tutor online sits at AED 150 to 300, Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. Specialists run AED 200 to 450 and above, TutorChase listing AED 270. In-home one-to-one is quoted at AED 180 to 500 including travel, Bestimate putting the common range at AED 180 to 350. The premium named tier begins near AED 500, with BartyED at AED 650.

Now the shape of the course, which is what those rates get multiplied by. Diploma chemistry has an internal assessment worth 20% of the grade at both Standard and Higher Level, and it arrives at a fixed point in the two years with an internal school deadline. It has one topic — organic chemistry — that reliably consumes more support hours than any other, because it is the topic where students who cope with the rest of the course stop coping. It has a block of calculation work in energetics, equilibrium and kinetics where the loss is arithmetic rather than conceptual. And at Higher Level it carries additional content that is not a slower version of the Standard Level material but a genuinely harder set of ideas.

Put those two things together and a two-year plan looks nothing like a flat monthly fee. A sensible Satwa budget concentrates spend at four moments: a diagnostic early in DP1, a block on organic chemistry when the school reaches it, a short run around the internal assessment before the school's internal deadline, and a targeted period before the May session on whichever calculation topics the diagnosis named. Between those, nothing or very little. That pattern costs materially less than twenty-four months of weekly sessions and produces more, and it is the version nobody selling by the month will propose to you.

Al Satwa adds one local variable worth pricing. Almost no private schools sit inside the district; children travel to Al Safa, Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Barsha and Oud Metha, and only a subset of those run the Diploma, since the International Baccalaureate is about 7% of Dubai private enrolment against 37% on the UK curriculum. In-home visits are quoted with travel inside the rate, and a tutor driving into Satwa for a 17:00 start is crossing the city in the worst window of the day. That premium is real money, and the pool willing to make the drive is small enough that the premium can buy a weaker teacher than the mid online band would have.

IB Gram's own model is one-to-one and delivered live online to Al Satwa on Gulf Standard Time, with the first lesson free so the diagnosis — the thing the whole budget should be built on — costs nothing. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Chemistry support is bought at four different stages and the price per useful hour differs enormously between them. Earlier is cheaper, and the reason is not sentiment — it is that a gap repaired without a deadline attached needs fewer hours than the same gap repaired against one.

MYPAges 11-16 · MYP 1-5

IB Middle Years Programme Sciences

Criterion-assessed rather than examined, with the sciences marked on knowledge and understanding, inquiring and designing, processing and evaluating, and reflecting on the impacts of science. The cheapest stage at which to build quantitative confidence, because nothing here carries a deadline that forces the pace.

MYP students from Al Satwa typically travel to Al Safa, Umm Suqeim or Al Barsha. A term of support here costs a fraction of a DP2 rescue, and the specific thing worth buying is mole reasoning and unit handling rather than content coverage.

DP SLAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2

IB Diploma Chemistry, Standard Level

Two years to the May session, written papers plus an internal assessment worth 20% of the grade. The most frequent Standard Level pattern is a student who can recite definitions and loses the three-mark calculation that follows, which is a method gap and therefore a cheap one to close once identified.

Confirm every IB date with your child's IB coordinator or on ibo.org. No IB session or results date appears on this page, because none has been verified from the IB itself for this project.

DP HLAges 16-19 · DP1-DP2

IB Diploma Chemistry, Higher Level

The core plus substantial additional content and a further written paper. Higher Level is where the hour count rises sharply, because the extension material is conceptually harder rather than merely longer, and because organic chemistry at this level demands pathway fluency rather than reaction recall.

Higher Level chemistry is a common prerequisite for medicine and the life sciences. For UAE university routes, check Ministry of Education equivalency on the authority's own page; no IB points threshold is published here because none has been read on a Ministry of Education source.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge 0620 and Pearson 4CH1 Chemistry

The usual feeder into Diploma chemistry in this part of Dubai. Mole calculations and organic reaction pathways decide grades here too, and students who leave Year 11 shaky on moles arrive in DP1 with a gap that costs several times more to fix.

A single diagnostic session in the summer between Year 11 and DP1 is the cheapest chemistry intervention available to a Satwa family, and almost nobody buys it. It costs one hour and it reliably removes two months of DP1 confusion.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Hours are not distributed evenly across the chemistry course. Below is where they actually go, ordered by how much support a typical Satwa Diploma student ends up needing, which is the list a budget should be built from.

Organic chemistry and reaction pathways

SL and HL

The largest single consumer of tutoring hours in the course. Students who can name functional groups still cannot route a multi-step synthesis, because pathway fluency is a separate skill from reaction recall. At Higher Level the mechanisms add a further layer and the hour count roughly doubles.

Stoichiometry and the mole

SL and HL

The foundation of every calculation in the subject and the place most grades are quietly lost. A student who can define molar mass and cannot complete a three-stage calculation involving a limiting reagent will lose marks across the whole paper rather than in one topic. Cheapest high-yield repair available.

Energetics and thermochemistry

SL and HL

Enthalpy cycles, bond enthalpies and calorimetry. The losses are sign conventions and the arithmetic of a cycle rather than the concept, which makes this a drill rather than a teaching problem. Higher Level adds entropy and spontaneity, which is genuinely new thinking.

Equilibrium and acid-base behaviour

SL and HL

Le Chatelier reasoning requires a chain of explanation that the mark scheme awards step by step, and students who state the outcome without the chain lose most of it. Higher Level pH and buffer calculations are a distinct arithmetic block worth its own sessions.

Kinetics and rate

SL and HL

Rate graphs, collision theory and the explanation of why a change in condition alters a rate. Higher Level rate laws and the determination of orders from data are a calculation-and-interpretation topic that rewards practised technique over reading.

Redox and electrochemistry

SL and HL

Oxidation numbers, half-equations and cell potentials. Balancing half-equations in acidic or alkaline conditions is a procedure, and students who were shown it once rather than drilled on it lose the marks reliably every time it appears.

Bonding, structure and periodicity

SL and HL

Usually the strongest area for students arriving from IGCSE, and the one families over-fund because it feels like the beginning of the course. Worth one diagnostic check rather than a block of sessions in most cases.

Analytical techniques and spectra

SL and HL

Interpreting spectra to identify a compound is a pattern-recognition skill built by repetition on real data. Short, frequent practice outperforms long sessions here, which makes it an efficient use of a shorter weekly slot.

Quantitative and qualitative laboratory skills

SL and HL

Uncertainty in measurement, propagating it through a calculation, and the precise observation language a qualitative test requires. Examinable in the written papers and essential to the internal assessment, so weakness here costs twice over.

The internal assessment

SL and HL, 20% of the grade

The independently produced investigation. A tutor may explain the criteria in the IB's own words, test whether a research question is answerable, model analysis on different data, and give feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor may not write, rewrite or complete any part of it.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways to spend a chemistry budget, each priced differently and each suited to a different diagnosis. The useful question is not which is best but which the diagnosis points at, which is why the free first lesson comes before any of them.

Diagnostic session, then targeted blocks

The cheapest pattern that works. One free diagnostic lesson produces a list of named topics, and spend is then concentrated into short blocks when the school reaches each one. For most Satwa Diploma families this means an organic chemistry block, a calculation block and an internal assessment block across two years, rather than a continuous weekly fee.

  • Diagnosis costs nothing and is the basis of the whole budget
  • Each block has a stated length and a stated total
  • Nothing is paid for in the months between blocks
  • Reviewed against the school's scheme of work, not monthly

Weekly anchor through DP2

One hour a week through the final year, for students whose diagnosis shows breadth rather than depth problems. Bestimate's monthly estimate for specialist exam-year support at one hour weekly is AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above, which makes this the most expensive pattern in the list and the right one for a minority of students.

  • Suitable where gaps are many and small rather than few and large
  • Marked practice between sessions is what justifies the cost
  • Written note after each lesson naming what moved
  • Worth reviewing honestly at the end of each term

Paired sessions on an identical level

Two students at the same level with the same diagnosed gap, sharing one tutor over video. Group tuition in this market is quoted per student below the one-to-one rate, and in chemistry it works particularly well for calculation drills where both students need the same procedure practised. It stops working the moment the gaps diverge.

  • Both students at the same level and the same topic
  • Strongest on calculation drills and spectra practice
  • Weakest on internal assessment work, which is individual
  • Review the pairing after four sessions, not after a term

Mandatory UAE subject support alongside chemistry

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies run in every Dubai private school alongside the licensed curriculum and compete for the same evenings. KHDA requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students, and for these subjects the use of different or additional content without prior Ministry of Education permission is prohibited.

  • Taught to the school's own stream and materials
  • A shorter session on a different evening from chemistry
  • Outside the five subjects counted for British-track equivalency
  • Budgeted as its own line rather than absorbed into the science spend

01

The two-year Diploma chemistry number

A Diploma chemistry course runs twenty-four months and the useful budget is the whole of it, not the month in front of you. Below is what the two years cost under three realistic patterns, built from published market rates rather than from an IB Gram price list. The point of the table is the comparison: the targeted pattern delivers more support at each critical moment and costs substantially less than the continuous one, because it does not pay for the months when nothing needs fixing.

The continuous pattern is what monthly billing produces by default. Twenty-four months of one weekly hour at the specialist band is a large number, and much of it is spent on topics the student was already handling, because a weekly slot has to be filled with something. Families rarely intend this; they arrive at it by renewing.

The targeted pattern concentrates the same kind of teaching at four moments: a diagnostic in early DP1, an organic chemistry block when the school reaches it, an internal assessment run before the school's internal deadline, and a calculation-topic block in the months before the May session. Between those, the student works with marked practice and the school's own teaching. It costs less and it places the hours where the marks are.

The in-home comparison is included because families ask for it and the arithmetic is rarely shown. In-home rates in Dubai are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included, and a four-visit month at AED 1,599 to 1,799 buys eight contact hours. Across a two-year Diploma that pattern is the most expensive of the three and it restricts the tutor pool to whoever will drive into Al Satwa at 17:00, which is a small group.

What an AED 50 chemistry hour cannot do

  • Budget tier: homework company and worked answers, honestly priced
  • Cannot route a multi-step organic synthesis under exam conditions
  • Cannot read a marked script and name the three failing topics
  • Cannot support a 20%-weighted internal assessment within the rules

The cheap end of this market is not a scam and it is not useless. It is a specific product: company for homework, worked answers to set questions, and a reasonably bright person who sat these exams a few years ago and is working from a revision guide. For a Standard Level student who has fallen behind on a single straightforward topic and needs somebody to sit with them while they catch up, that product is good value and the rate is honest.

What it cannot do in chemistry specifically is route a synthesis. Organic chemistry at Diploma level requires the tutor to hold a map of functional group interconversions in their head and to teach a student to navigate it under time pressure. Somebody working from a revision guide can tell you what a reaction does; they cannot tell your child which of four possible routes gets from an alkene to a carboxylic acid in the fewest steps, or why the examiner expects a particular reagent and condition.

The second thing it cannot do is diagnose. A diagnosis in chemistry means reading a marked script and saying: the definitions are secure, the limiting-reagent calculations are not, the energetics sign conventions are inverted, and the qualitative observation language is costing a mark per test. That requires knowing the mark scheme rather than the content. Without it, a family buys hours and the tutor fills them in syllabus order, which teaches the student the things they could already do.

The third is the internal assessment, which carries 20% of the grade. Supporting it properly means knowing how the criteria are worded, being able to say whether a research question is answerable with school equipment, and being able to read a draft and identify where the uncertainty treatment is thin. It also means knowing exactly where the line is and refusing to cross it. None of that is available at AED 50 an hour, and a provider offering it at that price is offering something else.

03

Organic chemistry: the topic that decides the bill

If a Satwa family is going to spend money on chemistry at one point in the two years, this is the point. Organic chemistry consumes more support hours than any other topic in the Diploma course, and the reason is structural: it is the first topic where knowing the content is insufficient. A student can learn every functional group, every reagent and every condition and still score poorly, because the examined skill is navigation rather than recall.

What navigation means in practice is this. Given a starting compound and a target, produce a route — the intermediate compounds, the reagent and condition for each step, and the reasoning for choosing that route over an alternative. The map of interconversions is finite and learnable, but it has to be learned as a map rather than as a list, and almost no student builds it from a textbook unaided. At Higher Level the mechanisms are added on top, which means explaining why a reaction proceeds as it does rather than only what it produces.

The practical consequence for a budget is that this topic rewards a block rather than a weekly drip. Six to ten sessions when the school reaches organic chemistry, run on pathway problems rather than on notes, will usually move a student from guessing to routing. Spread the same ten hours across a year and the map never consolidates, because each session starts by rebuilding what was forgotten.

There is a second reason to concentrate the spend here. Organic chemistry appears across the written papers and it is also the area in which many internal assessments are set, so the same hours serve two assessed components. Few topics in any subject give that double return, and it is worth knowing before a family decides where its chemistry money goes.

04

The calculation block, and why it is cheap to fix

  • Enthalpy cycle sign conventions: a one-session fix, permanently
  • Limiting reagent calculations held to the end rather than abandoned
  • Half-equations in alkaline conditions, drilled as a procedure
  • Rate order from a data table, taught as a fixed sequence
  • Higher Level pH and buffers as arithmetic, not as chemistry

The second concentration of hours is calculation work, and the good news for a budget is that it is the cheapest repair in the subject per mark recovered. Energetics, equilibrium, kinetics, redox and the stoichiometry underneath all of them share a common failure mode: the student understands what the question is asking and loses it in the execution. That is a drill, not a course of instruction, and drills respond fast.

The specific losses are consistent enough to list. Sign conventions in enthalpy cycles, inverted roughly as often as they are correct. Limiting reagent calculations abandoned halfway because the student lost track of which quantity they were working with. Half-equations in alkaline conditions, where the procedure was demonstrated once and never practised. Rate order determination from a data table, where the method is mechanical and the student improvises. pH and buffer arithmetic at Higher Level, where the sequence of steps matters more than the chemistry.

Every item on that list is a procedure with a fixed number of steps. A tutor who identifies which three of them are costing marks and then drills those three for four or five sessions will usually recover more marks per dirham than any other intervention in the course. That is the single most efficient thing a Satwa family can buy, and it is routinely skipped in favour of general revision because general revision feels more thorough.

The diagnostic that identifies the right three costs one free lesson. It requires a marked script — a mock paper, a school assessment, anything with an examiner's or teacher's marks on it. Families who arrive with that document get a usable budget out of the first hour; families who arrive without it spend the first paid session producing one.

05

Standard against Higher Level, costed in hours

Higher Level chemistry is not Standard Level with extra weeks. It carries additional content and an extra written paper, and the additional content is conceptually harder rather than simply more voluminous — entropy and spontaneity, mechanisms, the Higher Level pH and buffer work, and a deeper treatment of organic pathways. That is why the hour count rises more than the content list suggests, and it is the single most common budgeting error families make when a child moves from Standard to Higher in DP1.

The table below sets out where the extra hours actually go, so a family switching levels can price the decision rather than discover it. Confirm the exact component weightings with your child's IB coordinator against the current subject guide; guides are revised and a confidently quoted stale figure is worse than one checked. What is stable is that the internal assessment carries 20% of the grade at both levels, which means the coursework budget does not change with the level even though everything else does.

A useful consequence: for a student moving up to Higher Level, the right spend is front-loaded. The extension content is encountered in DP1 and compounds through DP2, so a block early in the Higher Level year prevents a situation where DP2 has to carry both the new material and the repair of the old. Families who switch level and keep the same tutoring pattern tend to find the second year much more expensive than the first.

For a student considering moving down from Higher to Standard, the honest framing is that it is a curriculum decision belonging to the school and the student, not a tutoring decision. Nobody selling hours should be advising on it. What a tutor can legitimately contribute is a specific account of which extension topics the student can and cannot handle, which makes the school's conversation better informed.

06

The internal assessment as a budget line

A fifth of the chemistry grade is produced before the exam period, in a piece of work the student writes themselves. That makes it the most controllable component in the subject and the one most families treat as an administrative task rather than as a graded one. Budgeting for it explicitly, as its own short block before the school's internal deadline, is the single clearest improvement available to a Satwa family's chemistry plan.

What the block should contain is specific and short. One session testing the research question for answerability with the equipment the school actually has, which is where most weak investigations are lost before any data exists. One or two on uncertainty, propagation and how to present data so the analysis can be done at all. One reading the student's own draft and identifying where the reasoning does not follow, where the uncertainty treatment is thin, and where the conclusion claims more than the data supports. That is four or five hours, placed before the deadline rather than after it.

What the block must not contain is any production of the work. A tutor may explain the assessment criteria in the IB's own words, discuss whether a question is answerable, model an analysis on a completely different dataset, teach technique, and give written feedback on the student's own draft. A tutor may not write, rewrite, edit to completion, supply a research question to be adopted wholesale, or produce the analysis. One operator visible in this market sells completed Internal Assessments; submitted work that is not the candidate's own is a malpractice matter, and the consequence falls on the student.

Nor should anyone hand you board materials. Subject guides, past papers, mark schemes and grade-boundary tables belong to the IB. The correct behaviour is to reference and link the official source, which is why this page points to ibo.org rather than offering anything for download.

Four ways chemistry money gets wasted in this district

  • Diagnose bonding and periodicity; do not buy a block on it by default
  • Price the in-home travel premium before accepting it
  • Do not fund weekly hours through low-risk topics
  • Buy the internal assessment block before the school's deadline

The first waste is funding bonding and periodicity. It feels like the responsible place to start because it is the beginning of the course, and it is usually the area a student arriving from IGCSE handles best. Families buy a block here, feel reassured by the student's competence, and arrive at organic chemistry with the budget already spent. One diagnostic check is enough for this area in most cases.

The second is a travel premium in the wrong direction. In-home chemistry visits in Dubai are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel inside the rate, and from the Al Barsha or Umm Suqeim side into Al Satwa for a 17:00 start that travel is substantial in both directions. The dirhams are visible. What is not visible is that the pool willing to make the drive is small, so a family can pay a premium and receive a generalist where the mid online band would have given a specialist for less.

The third is paying for a weekly slot through the months when the school is teaching something the student finds straightforward. A weekly hour has to be filled, and a conscientious tutor fills it with whatever the class is doing. That is how a two-year chemistry budget ends up with a third of its hours spent on topics that were never at risk.

The fourth is buying the internal assessment block after the school's deadline rather than before it. Support arriving late can only tidy; support arriving early can change the research question, which is the decision that caps or releases the grade. Same money, entirely different return, and the only difference is the date.

08

Tutoring cost in context for an Al Satwa household

Chemistry tutoring does not sit in isolation in a family budget, and the surrounding numbers have moved in a useful direction. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in school fees for private schools in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a total of AED 2.5 billion. For a Satwa household that means the education line is flat rather than rising for the first time in a while.

Scale matters too. Dubai's private school market in 2024-25 held 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering seventeen different curricula, with UK curriculum at 37%, Indian at 26%, US at 14% and International Baccalaureate at a 7% share of that enrolment. The 2026-27 intake adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places; six schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6%. The Diploma is growing in Dubai but it remains the smaller stream, which is the structural reason Diploma chemistry specialists price above general science tutors.

Against that backdrop, the practical advice is unglamorous. A flat fee year is the year to spend early rather than late, because the same money buys considerably more in DP1 than in the final term of DP2. Families who hold their tutoring budget in reserve for an emergency reliably spend it at the most expensive possible moment.

One thing this page will not do is state the VAT treatment of tuition fees as fact, because that requires a Federal Tax Authority citation. What a parent can reasonably ask any provider is narrow and answerable: is the figure quoted to me the figure I pay, and if a tax is added, what is it and on what basis. A provider who cannot answer that about their own pricing has told you something.

What the fee does not buy, at any band

No tutoring fee at any band buys a grade. Nobody can promise a 7, a number of points or an improvement in an externally assessed examination, and a provider claiming it is telling you about their marketing rather than their teaching. Where a promise is attached to money back, the terms have to be published and honoured on the same page, and in this market they generally are not.

No fee buys an accreditation either. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry of Education, MoHRE, IB or Cambridge accreditation and claims none, and there is no IB Gram office in the UAE. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai, inspecting schools and issuing an Educational Services Permit to training institutes with premises; it does not accredit individual tutors, so 'KHDA-approved chemistry tutor' is not a credential that exists.

No fee buys an exemption from the permit rules. Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, and the private tuition work permit is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students, and school students aged 15 to 18. MoHRE's service page lists no fees and a two-working-day completion time. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws; no fine schedule is published, so no figure appears here.

And no fee buys an arrangement with your child's own chemistry teacher. ADEK's professional-ethics rules bar Abu Dhabi school staff from paid private tutoring of students at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Treat that as press-reported and check the current policy document before relying on exact wording — but it is not an arrangement to pursue.

Which districts Al Satwa Diploma families actually use

A chemistry budget has a geography component, because in-home rates carry travel and because only some districts within reach of Satwa run the Diploma at all. Each entry notes the cost consequence rather than describing the neighbourhood.

Al Safa

Diploma provision a short crossing from Satwa, and the cheapest district to run an in-home arrangement to if a family wants one. Also the cluster where a 17:15 weekday slot is realistic.

Jumeirah

Coastal, mixed provision, with Diploma chemistry at some schools and not others. Worth confirming before assuming, because a family that chooses on reputation can find the Higher Level option is unavailable.

Umm Suqeim

Several larger IB schools, and the longest afternoon return in the district. For in-home pricing this is the most expensive direction to be travelled to from anywhere inland.

Al Barsha and Al Sufouh

The densest concentration of Diploma cohorts within reach. A tutor travelling from here into Satwa for a 17:00 start is in peak traffic both ways, which is what the in-home premium is paying for.

Oud Metha and Al Garhoud

Closest secondary cluster geographically, thinnest on Diploma chemistry. Families here often discover the subject combination they want means a longer commute than they planned.

Al Mankhool and Bur Dubai

Short runs, limited Diploma provision. The crossing congests from 15:00, which matters for in-home scheduling and not at all for an online slot.

Al Hudaiba and Al Bada'a

Adjacent to Satwa with identical housing and commute patterns, so the same budget assumptions apply without adjustment.

City Walk and La Mer

Newer developments nearby with later and more variable household returns, which pushes a sensible slot towards 18:00 and makes a fixed weekly in-home visit harder to sustain.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Satwa

Al Safa, Jumeirah and Al Wasl

The nearest IB provision to Al Satwa and the district where a weekday chemistry slot is easiest to keep. Diploma chemistry cohorts in individual schools here are small, which is why a student with a specific calculation gap often cannot get it addressed within the school day.

  • Jumeirah Baccalaureate School, Al Safa
  • Emirates International School Jumeirah
  • Al Ittihad Private School, Jumeira
  • Jumeirah College, Al Safa
  • Safa British School, Al Safa

Umm Suqeim, Al Sufouh and Al Barsha

Where most Satwa Diploma students travel, with larger cohorts and more subject choice. The commute is the reason families on this run should budget an 18:00 session and should discount in-home options on travel cost alone.

  • Raffles World Academy, Umm Suqeim
  • GEMS Wellington International School, Al Sufouh
  • Dubai International Academy, Al Barsha
  • Dubai American Academy, Al Barsha
  • Kings' School Dubai, Umm Suqeim

Oud Metha, Bur Dubai and Al Garhoud

Strong on British and Indian curricula, limited on Diploma chemistry. Listed because many Satwa families start their search in the nearest cluster and then widen it once they learn which Higher Level sciences actually run nearby.

  • St Mary's Catholic High School, Oud Metha
  • Deira International School, Al Garhoud
  • GEMS Winchester School, Oud Metha
  • Dubai Scholars Private School, Al Garhoud
  • Ambassador School, Al Mankhool

Schools are named as local context for families searching from this district; IB Gram claims no affiliation, partnership or endorsement with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Arrive with a marked script

A mock paper, a school assessment, anything with marks on it. That single document turns the free first lesson into a usable diagnosis and saves a paid session. Families who come without one spend the first hour producing one, which is the most expensive way to acquire information that already exists in a folder at home.

  2. 02

    Take the free diagnostic lesson

It costs nothing and should end with named topics and a rough hour count: organic pathways need six to ten, the enthalpy sign convention needs one, bonding is secure. That list is the budget. A trial that ends with enthusiasm and an offer of a monthly plan has produced nothing you can cost.

  3. 03

Ask for the plan as a total, not a rate

Blocks, hours per block, when each one falls in relation to the school's scheme of work, and a total in dirhams. A monthly figure with no stated duration is not a budget. If a provider cannot give you a total, the arrangement is open-ended by design.

  4. 04

Place the internal assessment block before the deadline

Ask the school for the internal deadline and put the four or five hours in front of it. Support arriving before the research question is fixed can change the grade ceiling; support arriving afterwards can only tidy the presentation.

  5. 05

Review at the school's topic boundaries

Review when the class finishes organic chemistry, when the mocks are marked, and at the internal assessment deadline. Those are the points where a review changes a decision. Reviewing on a billing cycle reviews the invoice.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The whole two years is costed, not the hour

A table on this page prices four realistic patterns across the full Diploma using published market rates. The targeted pattern costs materially less than continuous weekly billing and puts the hours where the marks actually are.

Rates attributed to whoever published them

Every AED figure here belongs to a named provider with a date. Three of the six most visible competitors in this market publish no price at all and two quote US dollars, which is not the currency a Dubai family transacts in.

The diagnosis is free

The first lesson costs nothing and exists to produce named topics and an hour count. That is what a budget is built from. Buying hours first and asking a tutor to work through the syllabus is how families fund the topics their child already handles.

Organic chemistry treated as a block, not a drip

The topic that consumes the most hours is taught as a concentrated run on pathway problems when the school reaches it, because a map of interconversions consolidates in a block and never consolidates across a year of weekly sessions.

Internal assessment help stays inside IB rules

Criteria explained in the IB's own words, research questions tested for answerability, analysis modelled on other data, written feedback on the student's own draft. Never writing, rewriting or editing assessed work to completion.

The delivery limit is stated plainly

Lessons are one-to-one and online on Gulf Standard Time. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are offered only in India. If presence in the room is the requirement, this is not the right service.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Satwa: your questions answered

What does a full two-year Diploma chemistry plan cost in Dubai?+

It depends far more on the pattern than on the rate. At published specialist rates of AED 200 to 450 an hour, a targeted plan of thirty-five to fifty-five hours across two years — a diagnostic, an organic chemistry block, an internal assessment block and a pre-exam calculation block — comes to roughly AED 7,000 to 24,750. A continuous weekly hour for both years is eighty to ninety hours, or about AED 16,000 to 40,500. The continuous version costs around twice as much and spends a large share of it on topics that were never at risk.

Which chemistry topic should I expect to spend the most money on?+

Organic chemistry, by a clear margin. It is the first topic where knowing the content is not enough: the examined skill is routing a multi-step synthesis, which means holding a map of functional group interconversions and navigating it under time pressure. Students who can name every reagent still score poorly because nobody taught the map as a map. At Higher Level the mechanisms are added on top. Six to ten sessions when the school reaches the topic is the usual requirement, and it is worth planning for rather than discovering.

Is it cheaper to spread chemistry tutoring across two years or concentrate it?+

Concentrate it, in blocks timed to the school's scheme of work. A weekly slot has to be filled, and a conscientious tutor fills it with whatever the class is covering, so a third of a continuous budget typically goes on topics the student was handling anyway. Blocks also work better in chemistry specifically, because organic pathways and calculation procedures consolidate when practised intensively and dissolve when met once a week. The exception is a student whose diagnosis shows many small gaps rather than a few large ones.

What exactly am I paying for at AED 270 an hour that I am not at AED 50?+

Three things that are all absent at the lower band. Routing — the ability to teach a multi-step organic synthesis rather than explain one reaction. Diagnosis — reading a marked script and saying the definitions are secure, the limiting-reagent work is not, and the enthalpy signs are inverted. And internal assessment support inside the rules, which requires knowing how the criteria are worded and where the line sits. The budget band is an honest product: homework company and worked answers. It is simply not the same product.

How many hours should we budget for the chemistry internal assessment?+

Four or five, placed before the school's internal deadline rather than after it. One session testing whether the research question is answerable with the equipment the school actually has, which is where most weak investigations are lost. One or two on uncertainty, propagation and data presentation. One reading the student's own draft and identifying where the reasoning fails or the conclusion overreaches. It carries 20% of the grade at both levels, which makes it the most controllable component in the subject and the cheapest place to buy marks.

Can a tutor help with the chemistry investigation without breaking the rules?+

Yes, within clear limits. A tutor may explain the assessment criteria in the IB's own words, discuss whether a research question is answerable, model an analysis technique on a completely different dataset, teach uncertainty handling, and give written feedback on a draft the student has written. A tutor may not write, rewrite, edit to completion, supply a research question to be adopted wholesale, or produce the analysis. One operator in this market sells finished Internal Assessments; submitted work that is not the candidate's own is a malpractice matter and the student bears it.

Does moving from Standard to Higher Level chemistry change the budget much?+

More than families expect. Higher Level adds substantial content and a further written paper, and the extension material is conceptually harder rather than merely longer — entropy and spontaneity, mechanisms, buffer and weak-acid arithmetic, deeper organic pathways. Roughly twenty to thirty extra support hours is a realistic planning figure. The internal assessment weighting does not change with the level, so that part of the budget stays constant. The sensible response to a level change is to front-load spend in the first Higher Level year rather than carry the gap into the final one.

My daughter can define everything and loses the calculation marks. Is that expensive to fix?+

It is the cheapest repair in the subject per mark recovered. The failure is execution rather than understanding: enthalpy sign conventions inverted, limiting-reagent calculations abandoned part way, half-equations in alkaline conditions improvised because the procedure was shown once, rate order determined by guesswork. Each is a fixed sequence of steps, and drills on three of them for four or five sessions typically recover more marks than any other intervention. The diagnostic that identifies the right three costs one free lesson, provided you bring a marked script.

Why is in-home chemistry tutoring quoted so much higher for Al Satwa?+

Because travel sits inside the rate and the window is bad. In-home rates in Dubai are quoted at AED 180 to 500 an hour with travel included, against AED 150 to 300 for a qualified online tutor. From the Al Barsha or Umm Suqeim side into Satwa for a 17:00 start, a tutor crosses the city in peak traffic twice. The dirham cost is visible; the hidden cost is that the pool willing to make the drive is small, so a premium can buy a generalist where the mid online band would have provided a specialist.

Does IB Gram offer in-home chemistry visits in Dubai?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service exists only in India. Chemistry sessions for Al Satwa families are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a shared whiteboard so pathways, cycles and calculations are written and annotated as they go. The explicit trade is that you lose a person in the room and gain a tutor matched to level and topic rather than to driving distance. For a subject where the Diploma specialist pool in Dubai is thin, that trade usually favours the family.

Should we put our chemistry budget into group classes to save money?+

Only where the gap is shared. Group and paired tuition is quoted per student below the one-to-one rate and it works genuinely well in chemistry for calculation drills, where two students at the same level need the same procedure practised repeatedly. It works badly for internal assessment support, which is individual by definition, and it works badly when one student needs organic routing and the other needs enthalpy arithmetic — each then gets half an hour of relevance for a full hour of fee. Review a pairing after four sessions.

Is a diagnostic session before DP1 really worth paying for?+

It is the cheapest chemistry intervention available and almost nobody buys it. A student who leaves IGCSE shaky on mole reasoning and unit handling arrives in DP1 with a gap that costs several times more to close once the Diploma pace takes hold, because the repair then competes with new content. One hour in the summer between Year 11 and DP1, spent on stoichiometry rather than on anything else, reliably removes two months of early confusion. Here that first lesson is free, so the cost objection does not apply.

Does the Dubai school fee freeze mean we have more to spend on tutoring?+

Arithmetically, yes. KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there will be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. For an Al Satwa household that means a flat education line rather than a rising one. The more useful consequence is timing: a flat year is the year to spend early, in DP1, because the same amount buys considerably more there than in the final term of DP2 when content repair and exam technique have to happen simultaneously.

Should I ask whether a chemistry tutoring quote includes VAT?+

Yes, before the first invoice. This page does not state the VAT treatment of tuition fees as fact, because that needs a Federal Tax Authority citation and anyone asserting it without one is guessing. What you can reasonably ask is narrow: is the figure you quoted me the figure I pay, and if a tax is added, what is it and on what basis. Any provider should be able to answer that about their own pricing in one sentence, and an inability to do so is itself useful information about how the arrangement will run.

Does paying more get me a tutor with an official approval of some kind?+

No, because no such approval exists for individual tutors. KHDA is responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in Dubai: it inspects schools and issues an Educational Services Permit to training institutes with premises. It does not accredit individual private tutors, so a 'KHDA-approved chemistry tutor' is not a real credential at any price. IB Gram holds no KHDA, ADEK, SPEA, Ministry of Education, MoHRE, IB or Cambridge accreditation and claims none. The credential that does exist is the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free and which you can ask to see.

What happens to the money if no Higher Level chemistry specialist is available?+

Nothing is spent, and you are told. Higher Level cover is a thinner pool than Standard Level, and a specific extension topic combined with a fixed weekday hour is thinner still. The honest options are a short wait for the right person, a different weekly slot that opens a wider pool, or a specialist outside the UAE working on Gulf Standard Time for the same level. What should not happen is a general science tutor taking the booking because the calendar had a gap, which is how a family pays specialist money for generalist teaching.

Bring a marked script and get a real number

The useful conversation about chemistry costs starts with a document, not a rate card. Find the most recent marked paper — a mock, a school assessment, anything with an examiner's or teacher's marks on it — and take the free first lesson. It costs nothing and it should end with named topics and an hour count: organic pathways need a block, the enthalpy signs need one session, bonding is already secure. From that you can price the whole two years instead of renewing a monthly invoice and hoping. Lessons are one-to-one, live online on Gulf Standard Time. Market rates quoted here belong to the providers named beside them, as published in or before October 2026.
