Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science 0653 Online Tutor in Dubai

A Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science 0653 online tutor in Dubai is working against a measurement problem before they teach anything. One grade covers biology, chemistry and physics, so a single percentage averages three different problems and hides whichever one is costing your child marks. This page is about fixing that: how a paper gets scored three ways, what you receive after every session, how eight weeks of evidence is written down, and what the record can and cannot honestly claim.

  • Every paper scored separately for biology, chemistry and physics
  • Marked against the board's published points, not by impression
  • Session recordings and saved working stay with your child
  • Written review against a comparable paper at eight weeks

IB & IGCSE in Dubai

One number, three problems

Combined Science has a reporting problem that single-subject courses do not. A student comes home with 48 per cent and that number is the average of three separate performances. It could mean solid biology, collapsed chemistry and middling physics. It could mean the opposite. It could mean competent knowledge across all three with every long-answer question answered in the wrong register. Those four situations need four different plans, and none of them is distinguishable from the mark on the report.

What follows from that is the whole method on this page. Before any teaching happens, a past paper is sat under exam timing and scored three ways, with the marks attributed to biology, chemistry and physics questions separately and then to topics within each strand. The result is not a grade, it is a diagnosis. It usually surprises families, and the surprise is normally in the same direction: the strand the student complains about is not the strand losing the most marks.

The second half of the method is repetition under controlled conditions. A score only means something next to another score from the same paper format, the same length and the same timing. So an eight-week block begins and ends with comparable papers, with the diagnostic work in between, and the only claim anybody makes about progress is the movement between those two numbers. That claim belongs to your child. It is not a marketing figure, it has no sample size behind it and it is not transferable to anybody else's child.

Live video delivery matters here for a reason that has nothing to do with convenience. An online session leaves artefacts: the annotated script, the saved whiteboard working, the running mark log, and the recording where a family wants one. An in-home session leaves a parent's impression of how it went, plus a notebook that will not be found in May. If the point of the arrangement is evidence rather than reassurance, the format that produces documents automatically is the format that supports it. This also removes the awkward conversation most families eventually have with a visiting tutor, where neither side can point to anything concrete and the discussion becomes about effort and attitude instead of about marks.

IB Gram is an independent matching platform. Tutoring for families in Dubai and across the Emirates is delivered one-to-one over live video; we do not make home visits in Dubai, as that is a service we run only in India. Nothing here claims a regulator approval or an examination-board affiliation, and no grade outcome is promised, because a provider who cannot show you the method behind a number should not be publishing the number. What is on offer is a marked script you can read against the board's own published mark scheme.

At a glance

  • One 0653 grade averages three sciences and hides the weakest
  • Every paper is scored separately by strand, then by topic
  • Marking follows the board's published points, not a generous reading
  • Progress is the movement between two comparable papers, nothing else
  • Annotated scripts, saved working and a mark log go to the parent
  • No grade guarantee, because nobody controls the paper or the marking
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Dubai private schools taught seventeen different curricula in 2024-25, and a 0653 entry turns up inside several of them. Which one your child's school runs changes what a marked script tends to show, which is worth knowing before a plan is written.

UKAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

British curriculum schools

The largest group by enrolment in Dubai, accounting for 37 per cent of private-school enrolment in 2024-25. Combined Science here is usually the route for students the school judges unable to carry three separate sciences, so the scripts we see tend to show reasonable content coverage with weak exam technique on the long-answer questions.

These schools publish schemes of work and mock timetables, which makes a tutoring plan easier to synchronise. Ask for the scheme rather than guessing at it, because the common error in a plan is teaching a topic the school is about to teach anyway while the real loss sits elsewhere.

INDAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Indian curriculum schools offering IGCSE streams

Indian curriculum schools accounted for 26 per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment in 2024-25, and several run Cambridge streams alongside their main offer. Scripts from these streams frequently show strong calculation work with marks lost on the extended-writing questions, which is the mirror image of the British-curriculum pattern.

The practical consequence is that the same 48 per cent means something different depending on the school. A plan that starts with mole calculations for a student whose arithmetic is already sound wastes four weeks, which is why the strand breakdown comes before the teaching.

IBAges 11-16 · MYP into Years 10-11

IB continuum schools

International Baccalaureate students made up 7 per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment in 2024-25. A student moving from Middle Years Programme sciences into an IGCSE combined-science entry arrives strong on investigation design and unused to timed recall, which shows up as good practical-component work and poor multiple-choice performance.

This transition is common in Dubai because families move between schools mid-secondary. A marked script from an MYP background needs reading carefully: low marks often indicate unfamiliarity with the paper rather than missing science.

USAges 14-16 · Grades 9-11

American curriculum schools

American curriculum schools held 14 per cent of Dubai private-school enrolment in 2024-25. Students transferring from this route into an IGCSE science entry usually have broad coverage and little experience of a terminal paper where half the grade arrives in one sitting, which changes what the first marked script is really measuring.

Where a family is mid-transfer, the first baseline paper should be read as a familiarity test rather than a knowledge test. Repeating it four weeks later, after the paper format has been taught, usually produces a very different number.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

These are the codes we are asked about in Dubai, described by what a marked script typically reveals rather than by what the syllabus contains.

Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science (0653)

Core and Extended, single award

One grade from three sciences, which is why the strand breakdown exists. Scripts most often show biology holding, chemistry calculations failing silently and physics marks swinging between papers. The multiple-choice component punishes imprecise recall and the theory paper punishes command-word errors.

Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences (0654)

Core and Extended, double award

Two grades from one course, which makes the diagnosis easier because the reporting already separates part of the picture. More content than the single award, so the mark log tends to show slower movement per session across a wider body of material.

Cambridge IGCSE Biology (0610)

Core and Extended

Where marks are lost to wording rather than knowledge. A script will show accurate biology scoring nothing because a describe answer was written for an explain question, which is diagnosable in minutes and fixable in weeks.

Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry (0620)

Core and Extended

The strand that stays flat longest on a mark log. Mole work, reacting masses and concentration are proportional reasoning with units attached, and rebuilding them means going back to the arithmetic before any chemistry marks move. Families often read that lag as failure.

Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0625)

Core and Extended

The most volatile line on a mark log. Formula selection and unit handling either fire under exam pressure or do not, so the same student can score well and badly on consecutive papers until the method becomes automatic.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Science (Double Award, 4SD0)

Single tier

Used by some Dubai centres. Because the paper structure differs from Cambridge, a mark log built on Cambridge papers is not comparable. Confirm the board from the statement of entry before any baseline is set.

Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580)

Core and Extended

The subject that explains most chemistry and physics losses in a combined-science script. Where a breakdown shows calculation errors spread evenly across two strands, the problem is maths appearing in a science paper and should be fixed there.

Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language (0510)

Core and Extended

Relevant because the extended-writing questions award marks for precise terms. A script where every long answer is three lines too long and one credited word short is showing a language pattern rather than a science gap.

A Level and IB Diploma sciences

AS, A2, HL and SL

The destination that makes the record worth keeping. A documented strand profile at IGCSE tells a sixth-former which science they are genuinely strongest in, which is better information than one averaged grade on a certificate.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of running the work, all one-to-one over live video. The difference is what the evidence file is being asked to prove by the end of the block.

Diagnostic block, four sessions

For a family who does not yet know what they are buying. A baseline paper scored by strand, a topic audit inside the weakest strand, one session on command-word technique and one on the practical component. It ends with a written plan rather than with a commitment, and the plan is usable even if you take it elsewhere.

  • Baseline paper marked to the published points and broken down by strand
  • Topic audit inside the weakest science only
  • Written plan with dates, handed over at the end

Eight-week measured block

The standard arrangement. Weekly sessions bracketed by two comparable papers, with the mark log updated after every session and the strand priority reviewed at week four. The claim at the end is the movement between the two papers, with the working shown.

  • Comparable papers at week one and week eight
  • Mark log updated and sent after every session
  • Strand priority formally reviewed at the halfway point

Maintenance through the exam term

For a student whose profile is already known and reasonably even. Shorter, more frequent sessions aimed at keeping the calculation strands fluent, with full-length papers at the weekend and nothing new introduced inside the final fortnight.

  • Short frequent drilling on physics and chemistry calculations
  • Full-length timed papers on weekend mornings only
  • No new content inside the last two weeks before a paper

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Dubai

01

Scoring one paper three ways

The first piece of work is mechanical and it takes about ninety minutes of marking. A released past paper is scored question by question against the board's published points. Every question is then tagged to biology, chemistry or physics, and the marks are totalled three times. Within each strand the losses are tagged again, this time to topic, so the output is not a percentage but a short list of places where marks went.

What this surfaces is the thing a single grade is incapable of showing. The table below is a worked example rather than a published statistic, included to show the shape of the output rather than to claim anything about any cohort. Read down the fourth column rather than across the rows: the useful information is what kind of error produced the loss, because knowledge gaps, arithmetic failures and technique failures need different weeks of work.

The pattern that recurs often enough to be worth naming is a mismatch between where a student feels weak and where the marks actually go. Students report the strand they find unpleasant. A breakdown reports the strand that costs them. Those are frequently different, because the unpleasant one gets revised and the other one gets quietly avoided. Having the breakdown in a document rather than in an argument is what makes the following eight weeks possible.

The second thing it gives you is a baseline that can be beaten honestly. A school mock mark is not a baseline, because mocks are often shortened, marked against a different standard, or sat under conditions that vary between schools. A paper sat at full length under exam timing and scored against the published points is comparable with another one of the same format later. That comparability is the only reason the exercise is worth the ninety minutes.

02

What live video adds to the record

Online delivery is usually sold on convenience. The reason it matters for an evidence-led plan is duller and more useful: it produces documents automatically. Every session happens on a shared screen, so the working the tutor and the student produce is already a file. It gets saved and sent rather than left on a kitchen table in a notebook that will not be found in May.

The running mark log is the central artefact. It records, for each paper attempted, the date, the paper format, the total, the three strand totals, and a one-line note on the dominant error type. After four or five entries it stops being an administrative record and becomes the thing that drives decisions, because trends are visible in a way that individual marks are not. A chemistry line that has been flat for three papers while the physics line climbs is telling you to change the plan rather than to add hours.

Recordings are optional and worth more than families expect in the fortnight before a paper. A student can watch the explanation of reacting masses three times at eleven at night without anybody else being awake for it, which is not possible with a lesson delivered in a living room. The saved whiteboard files do similar work: a student revising from ten of their own worked calculations is in a different position from one revising from a textbook page they have already read and not absorbed.

There is a limit worth stating. The record shows what happened in sessions and on papers. It does not show what happened in class, it cannot measure effort between lessons, and it is not a prediction. A mark log that has moved from one comparable paper to another is evidence about the past eight weeks and nothing more. Anybody turning that into a forecast, including us, would be inventing something.

03

Teaching a student to read the mark scheme themselves

  • Count the marks, plan that many separate credited points
  • Explain answers need a because or a therefore in them
  • Suggest questions reward an attempt and punish a blank
  • Calculations need working, units and a sanity check on the answer

The most durable thing a 0653 tutor can hand over is not content. It is the ability to look at a question and know what the marks are for. Cambridge awards marks against specified points, and the number of marks printed beside a question tells a candidate how many separate credited statements are expected. A student who internalises that stops writing four lines where one word scores, and stops writing one line where three points were available.

Command words carry the rest of it. State wants a fact. Describe wants what happens, in sequence, without reasons. Explain wants why, with a mechanism connecting cause to effect, which is the single commonest place marks are lost in a combined-science theory paper. Compare wants both sides in the same statement. Suggest wants known principles applied to an unfamiliar situation, and a blank answer there guarantees zero where a plausible attempt may score. Calculate wants the working, the units, and a number that is physically sensible.

The teaching method for this is specific and repetitive. The student marks their own work before the tutor comments, using the published mark scheme for the paper, and says out loud why each mark was or was not awarded. It is uncomfortable for about three sessions. After that students start predicting the mark scheme before they see it, which is the point at which the technique problem stops being a problem and the remaining losses are genuine content gaps.

We reference and link the board's published syllabus and mark schemes on the Cambridge International website rather than reproducing or supplying them, because that material belongs to Cambridge. A provider offering you a download bundle of mark schemes, subject guides and grade-boundary tables is distributing material they have no right to distribute, which tells you something about how they will handle the rest of the arrangement.

04

Eight weeks of progress, written down

An evidence-led block has a shape, and publishing it is the point. A family should be able to see at the start what will exist at the end, so that the arrangement is accountable rather than open-ended. The table below is the standard eight-week structure for 0653 support, with the artefact each week produces and the decision that artefact is supposed to drive.

Two features of it are worth drawing out. The first is that week four is a decision point rather than a progress report. Four sessions into a plan there is enough information to know whether the weakest strand was correctly identified, and the commonest mid-course correction is discovering that what looked like a chemistry problem is a maths problem. Catching that at week four rather than week eight saves four sessions of the wrong work.

The second is that the practical component gets its own protected slot. It is worth a fifth of the grade and it is the component households never revise, partly because it feels like something only a school can prepare. It is not: identifying variables, building a results table with units in the headings, choosing axes so a trend is readable, spotting an anomaly and suggesting a method improvement are all paper skills, and they can be taught on a shared screen the student writes on.

What the block cannot do is also worth stating in the same place. Eight weeks of weekly sessions is eight hours of teaching. That can rebuild two topics properly, fix command-word technique across all three strands and prepare the practical component. It cannot replace a year of content that was never learnt, and any provider implying otherwise should be asked to explain how.

THE EIGHT-WEEK 0653 RECORD - WHAT EXISTS AND WHAT IT DECIDES

Week 2Topic audit inside the weakest strand, marked secure, shaky or unseenWhether the problem is unlearnt content or forgotten content, which need opposite plans

05

Why physics marks swing and chemistry marks stay flat

Once a family has four entries on a mark log, the same two questions always arrive. Why does the physics figure jump around, and why has the chemistry figure not moved at all? Both have specific answers and both are reassuring once understood, which is the main argument for keeping the log in the first place.

Physics swings because the skills it tests are performance skills rather than knowledge. Selecting the right relationship, rearranging it, converting units and finishing the arithmetic under time pressure either happens fluently or does not, and a student who can do all four calmly at home will still lose the marks in a timed paper until the sequence is automatic. The remedy is short, frequent and extremely boring: the same calculation types, repeatedly, until no thought is required. Twenty minutes twice a week beats an hour once a fortnight, which is why exam-term sessions get shorter and more frequent rather than longer.

Chemistry stays flat because the repair happens below the surface. Mole work, reacting masses and concentration are proportional reasoning with units attached, and if a student cannot reliably rearrange a relationship then no amount of chemistry revision will fix the chemistry marks. The first three or four sessions go to the arithmetic, during which the chemistry line on the log does not move at all. Families read that as the tutoring failing. It is the only order in which the work can be done, and saying so in advance is more useful than explaining it afterwards.

Biology usually sits highest and moves least, for a reason that is about human nature rather than science. It is the strand that feels productive to revise, so it is the strand that gets revised, which keeps it healthy and consumes the hours the other two needed. The least popular and most valuable thing a tutor does is insist the hour goes where the breakdown says it should.

06

Using the record at a Dubai parents' evening

A marked script with a strand breakdown is useful outside the tutoring arrangement, and families underuse it. A ten-minute parents' evening slot is normally spent on a general exchange about effort and attitude. Arriving with a specific question changes what you get out of it, and the specific question is in the breakdown.

The questions worth bringing are narrow. Has this topic been taught yet, and when is it scheduled. Is my child entered for the Core or the Extended tier, and is that still under review. Which practical component has the centre chosen. Does the department's own marking of the long-answer questions match this, because if not, one of the two standards is out and it matters which. Teachers generally welcome this, because it is a conversation about their subject rather than a complaint.

What a tutor's script is not is an authority that overrides the school. The school knows the student in a classroom, holds the entry, and sees work the tutor never sees. If the department's reading of a student differs from ours, that is information rather than a dispute, and the useful response is to ask what they are seeing that we are not. Occasionally the answer is decisive: a student who performs on paper and will not speak in class has a problem no amount of paper marking will show.

One boundary belongs here. We do not contact your child's school, send reports to teachers or represent a family in a school conversation, and nothing on this page should suggest a relationship with any school named on it. The record is yours to use as you see fit. Schools are named on this page as context for families comparing provision, with no affiliation implied in either direction.

07

The honesty line on papers, mark schemes and coursework

This market contains operators selling things a tutor must not sell, and the boundary is worth setting out as a table rather than as a reassurance. One provider in this space sells completed internal assessments outright, which is an academic-integrity breach that puts the student rather than the seller at risk. A family paying for tutoring is entitled to know exactly where the line sits before the first session.

The principle is simple. A tutor teaches, explains, demonstrates on examples that are not the assessed work, and gives feedback on work the student has produced themselves. A tutor does not supply text for submission, does not edit a piece of assessed work into something the student could not have written, and does not provide board material they have no right to distribute. All three of those are refusals that protect your child rather than restrictions that inconvenience them.

On board material specifically, syllabuses, past papers, mark schemes, specimen material and grade-boundary information are published by Cambridge International and by Pearson on their own websites. We reference them and link them. We do not reproduce them, bundle them or sell them, and a provider who hands you a drive full of them is distributing somebody else's copyright. For unreleased material the exposure is worse than copyright, because it reaches into malpractice.

The last row of the table is the one families ask about most delicately, and the answer is a straightforward yes. A tutor can read a practical write-up the student has already written and say what a mark scheme would credit, what is missing and what a stronger version would contain. The student then rewrites it. That is teaching. The distinction between that and the thing we will not do is the student's hand on the work.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Dubai

Session timing and the quality of a baseline paper both depend on when a student is actually able to concentrate. These are the Dubai communities we schedule most 0653 work for, with what the local pattern tends to allow.

Jumeirah 1 to 3

Established coastal villas close to several long-standing schools, so journeys home are short and weekday sessions from 16:30 are workable. That makes it one of the few areas where a full-length paper can be attempted on a weekday without distorting the score.

Umm Suqeim

Similar journey profile with large family homes and a mix of curricula nearby. Families here often run two subjects at once, which makes the mark log more useful than usual because it shows where limited hours should go.

Al Safa and Al Wasl

Central and well connected, with students spread across schools in both directions along Al Wasl Road. Return times vary by route rather than distance, so a fixed slot is better set at 17:30 than at 16:30.

Meydan and Nad Al Sheba

Newer villa communities with recently opened school capacity and small Year 11 cohorts. Whole-class revision provision is thin, so an individual weak strand often goes unaddressed until a marked paper names it.

Dubai Creek Harbour and Ras Al Khor

Fast-growing residential area where school choice is largely outside the community. Evening journeys are long enough that families here consistently prefer a format that does not depend on anybody completing a drive.

Al Jaddaf and Dubai Healthcare City

Apartment living with schools close by but awkward access at peak times. The practical constraint is a quiet room rather than a timetable, which matters for the full-length papers the mark log depends on.

Jumeirah Park and Al Furjan

Townhouse communities with heavy school bus use in several directions. Weekend mornings reliably produce better baseline scripts here than weekday evenings, which is the single most useful scheduling fact for a family planning paper practice.

Al Sufouh and Knowledge Village

Close to the Jumeirah and Barsha school corridors with short journeys. Students here often have access to school revision sessions, so one-to-one work is better spent on the strand the breakdown identifies than on general coverage.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Dubai

Coastal Dubai: Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim and Al Sufouh

Long-established provision across several curricula, inspected by KHDA on its six-band scale from Outstanding to Very Weak. Students we support from this cluster usually arrive with a full set of mock results, which makes the first strand breakdown quicker to produce and easier to interpret.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send what already exists

The statement of entry for the syllabus code and tier, a photograph of the most recent marked science assessment with marks visible, and the school's scheme of work if you have it. Those three documents turn a first session from a conversation into a diagnosis, and they take about five minutes to gather.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson over live video

One full-length one-to-one session at no charge, with no card details taken. Part of it is diagnostic. Use some of it to ask the tutor for a worked mole calculation, a food-chain explanation and a resistance problem, because a single-award course needs someone fluent in all three strands.

  3. 03

    Baseline paper, scored three ways

A released past paper at full length under exam timing, marked against the published points, with the marks totalled separately for biology, chemistry and physics and then tagged to topics. The output is a list of places marks went, not a percentage, and it is what the plan is built from.

  4. 04

Eight-week block with the log sent weekly

Weekly sessions with the mark log updated and shared after each one, the saved whiteboard working sent the same evening, and a formal review of the target strand at week four. Most mid-course corrections happen at that review, usually because a chemistry problem turns out to be an arithmetic one.

  5. 05

    Second comparable paper, then decide

Same format, same length, same timing, same marking standard. The movement between the two scores is the only claim anybody makes about the block. If it has not moved, the plan changes or the tutor does; buying more hours of a plan the evidence has already contradicted is how money gets wasted.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

One grade is split back into three

Every paper is scored separately for biology, chemistry and physics and then tagged to topics, because a single combined-science percentage averages three different problems. Without that split a plan is a guess, and the guess is usually that the student needs more of whatever the tutor teaches best.

The mark log is the product

Date, paper format, total, three strand totals and a one-line note on the dominant error type, updated after every paper. After four entries the trends drive the decisions, which is how a flat chemistry line gets caught at week four instead of being discovered in May.

The student marks their own work first

Self-marking against the published points, out loud, before the tutor comments. It is uncomfortable for about three sessions and then students start predicting the mark scheme, at which point technique stops being the problem and the remaining losses are genuine content.

Artefacts stay with your child

Saved whiteboard working, annotated scripts, the mark log and session recordings where a family wants them. A student revising in May from ten of their own worked calculations is better placed than one rereading a textbook page. An in-home lesson leaves none of this behind.

The claims stop where the evidence stops

Progress means the movement between two comparable papers and nothing further. No predicted grades, no improvement percentages, no star ratings, no success statistics, because none of those could be published here with the sample size, date and method that would make them honest.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Dubai: your questions answered

How will I actually know whether the 0653 sessions are working?+

By comparing two papers of the same format, sat at the same length under the same timing, marked against the same published points. The first is sat in week one before any teaching, the second at week eight. The movement between those two numbers is the claim, and you see both scripts with the annotations on them. Anything else offered as proof of progress, including a tutor's impression of how sessions are going and a student's own report, is weaker evidence than two comparable scripts marked the same way.

Can you tell me which of the three sciences my son is losing marks in?+

That is the first piece of work rather than something that emerges later. A past paper is marked question by question, every question is tagged to biology, chemistry or physics, and the marks are totalled three times, then tagged again to topics inside the weakest strand. The output is a list of where marks went rather than a percentage. It regularly contradicts what the student believes, because students report the strand they find unpleasant while the breakdown reports the strand that costs them marks.

Why is your marked score lower than my daughter's school mock mark?+

Because the two are not measuring the same thing. School mocks are often shortened, sat under varying conditions, and marked to a standard that is deliberately encouraging at that point in the year. A baseline here is a full-length released paper under exam timing, scored strictly against the board's published points. The lower number is not a judgement on the school; it is a measurement designed to be comparable with another measurement in eight weeks. A generous baseline would make the second paper meaningless.

What exactly do I receive after each online session?+

The saved whiteboard file from the session, which contains the working your child and the tutor produced rather than a textbook page. An updated mark log where a paper was marked that week, showing date, paper format, total, the three strand totals and a one-line note on the dominant error type. The session recording where your family has asked for recordings. And, at week four and week eight, a short written review. All of it is sent to you rather than described to you.

Do you mark past papers using the official Cambridge mark scheme?+

Yes, against the board's published points, which is why the marking is sometimes stricter than a student expects. We reference and link those documents on the Cambridge International website rather than reproducing or supplying them, because the material is Cambridge copyright and is already free to download there. Any provider handing you a bundle of mark schemes, subject guides or grade-boundary tables is distributing material they have no right to distribute, which is worth noticing before you trust them with anything else.

Can my child's school use your marked scripts at a parents' evening?+

The record is yours and plenty of families take it in, which usually improves a ten-minute slot considerably. The useful questions are narrow: has this topic been taught and when is it scheduled, is the entry Core or Extended and is that under review, which practical component has the centre chosen, and does the department's own marking of long answers match this. We do not contact schools, send reports to teachers or represent families in school conversations, and we claim no relationship with any school.

How long before a marked paper shows real movement?+

It depends which strand you are watching. Technique changes show up fast, often within two or three papers, because fixing a describe answer written for an explain question is a habit change rather than a knowledge build. Chemistry arithmetic shows up slowest, typically not before the fourth or fifth session, because the repair happens in the maths underneath before any chemistry marks can move. That lag is the single most common reason families conclude too early that a plan is not working.

Why do physics marks go up and down while chemistry stays flat?+

Physics tests performance skills. Choosing a relationship, rearranging it, converting units and finishing the arithmetic under time pressure either runs fluently or does not, so the same student scores well and badly on consecutive papers until the sequence becomes automatic. The remedy is short, frequent repetition rather than long sessions. Chemistry stays flat because the first sessions go to the proportional reasoning underneath the mole work, during which the chemistry line genuinely does not move. Both patterns are normal and both are visible on the log.

Are the 0653 session recordings available afterwards?+

Where your family asks for recordings, yes, and they earn their keep in the fortnight before a paper. A student can rewatch an explanation of reacting masses three times late at night without anybody else being awake, which is not available from a lesson delivered in a living room. The saved whiteboard files do similar work. The practical value is that revision material in the student's own handwriting and the tutor's own words is used, whereas a textbook chapter already read tends not to be.

Can a tutor give feedback on a practical write-up my son has already written?+

Yes, and that is exactly where the line sits. A tutor can read what the student wrote, say what a mark scheme would credit, name what is missing and describe what a stronger version would contain. The student then rewrites it themselves. What a tutor must never do is supply text for submission or edit a piece of assessed work into something the student could not have produced. The distinction is the student's hand staying on the work, and it protects your child rather than inconveniencing them.

Do you provide past papers and mark schemes as downloads?+

No, and nobody should. Cambridge International and Pearson publish syllabuses, past papers, mark schemes and specimen material on their own websites, free, and that material is their copyright. We link to it and work from it in sessions. A provider offering a drive or folder of board material is redistributing somebody else's property, and where unreleased material is involved the exposure moves from copyright into malpractice. It is a useful early signal about how a provider handles rules generally.

What happens if the second comparable paper shows no improvement?+

The plan changes or the tutor changes, and that conversation is ours to start rather than yours to chase. Buying more hours of a plan the evidence has already contradicted is the most common way money is wasted in this market. In practice there are three usual causes: the wrong strand was targeted, the sessions were happening but nothing was practised between them, or the real obstacle is not academic at all. The log usually distinguishes between them, which is why it exists.

How do you decide which 0653 topics get session time?+

From the breakdown rather than from preference. Marks lost are tagged to topics inside each strand, and the hours go to the topics carrying the largest measured loss that can realistically be rebuilt in the time available. That last clause matters: six weeks before a paper, two topics rebuilt properly beats six topics touched. The target strand is formally reviewed at week four, and the most common correction at that point is discovering a chemistry problem is actually an arithmetic problem.

If we change tutor mid-term, does the record carry over?+

Yes, because the record is kept as documents rather than in a tutor's head. The mark log, the strand breakdown, the topic audit and the saved working all transfer, so a new tutor starts from the evidence rather than from a fresh baseline paper. That is the practical reason the written artefacts are worth the time they take to produce. Changing tutor is something you can ask for without having to justify it, and it should not cost your child four weeks of re-diagnosis.

Ask for the breakdown before you buy the hours

A Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science 0653 online tutor in Dubai should be able to hand you something readable after the first paper: marks totalled separately for biology, chemistry and physics, the losses tagged to topics, and a one-line statement of what kind of error produced them. That document is what a plan is built from, and without it any number of hours is a guess. Send the statement of entry and the most recent marked assessment, and the trial lesson can start from a diagnosis rather than a conversation. The trial is a full-length one-to-one video session at no charge, with no card details taken.
