IGCSE Tutor near me in Al Ain

Typing IGCSE tutor near me in Al Ain returns whoever has paid to appear near your pin, not whoever has taught your child's syllabus. This page does the arithmetic on how small the local specialist pool really is, compares the four options an Al Ain family is genuinely choosing between, and sets out what proximity gains you and what it quietly takes away.

IB & IGCSE in Al Ain

A map pin is the wrong filter for an IGCSE problem

A search for an IGCSE tutor near me in Al Ain is a search sorted by distance. That is a sensible filter for a plumber and a poor one for a Cambridge Chemistry 0620 Extended candidate, because the thing that decides whether the hours work is whether the tutor has taught that specification through a series, and geography has no relationship to that at all. The result a parent gets is a list of whoever is closest and most visible, which in a city the size of Al Ain is a short and semi-random list.

Do the arithmetic and the problem becomes obvious. Al Ain's private-school set is considerably smaller than Abu Dhabi island's, and far smaller than Dubai's, where 387,441 students attended 227 private schools across 17 curricula in 2024-25. Fewer schools means fewer cohorts, and a subject with four or five candidates a year per school produces a very small number of teachers in the whole city who have taught it. For Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606, Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1 or Computer Science 0478, the honest count of local specialists is low enough that distance-first searching will often return nobody suitable and several people willing.

Proximity does buy real things, and this page is not going to pretend otherwise. A person in the room can watch a younger student's attention wander and act on it. Handwriting, calculator habits and the physical business of laying out a maths answer are easier to correct beside someone. A household that wants visible supervision gets it. Those are genuine, and for some Al Ain families they outweigh everything else. The question worth asking is not whether proximity has value, but what you are paying for it in specification match.

The cost shows up in three places. It shows up in the AED rate, since published UAE in-home one-to-one figures run roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel included, against roughly AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject tutor working online. It shows up in scheduling, because a tutor driving from central Al Ain to Al Yahar or Al Maqam has to leave before they know if the previous lesson overran. And it shows up in the shortlist, which narrows from everyone qualified to everyone nearby and available.

IB Gram's position is stated rather than implied: there are no home visits anywhere in the UAE and no office, centre or branch in the country, because in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. Al Ain families are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. That is not a claim that screens beat rooms. It is a claim that in a city this size, choosing by syllabus code beats choosing by driving distance, and that a family in Zakher should be able to work with whoever has actually taught 0606 rather than whoever is twelve minutes away.

At a glance

  • Distance-sorted results rank visibility and proximity, not specification experience
  • Al Ain's smaller school set means genuinely small local pools in thin-cohort subjects
  • Published in-home band AED 180-500 an hour; qualified online tutor AED 150-300
  • Four real options: school clinic, tuition centre, local independent tutor, online specialist
  • ADEK rules bar school staff from paid tutoring of their own school's students
  • Lessons for Al Ain families are one-to-one over live video, not home visits
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Which option is right depends partly on what stage the student is at, because the value of proximity falls as the subject gets more specialised. These are the four stages and what each one changes about the search.

KS3Ages 11-14 · Years 7-9

Key Stage 3 and Cambridge Lower Secondary

The stage where proximity is worth the most, because the work is general, the student is young, and supervision matters more than specification depth. Any competent maths or English teacher can close a Year 8 gap. Checkpoint tests run in March, May and October and are diagnostic rather than certificated, which makes this a low-pressure stage to intervene in.

In Al Ain this is also the stage to find out what the school will actually offer at IGCSE. Narrower option blocks than on Abu Dhabi island mean a subject your child wants may run as a very small group or not at all, and Year 9 is when that is still fixable without changing school.

IGCSE 1Ages 14-15 · Year 10

Year 10, the first IGCSE year

Specification experience starts to matter more than proximity. A tutor needs to know whether the entry is Cambridge 0580 Core or Extended, or Pearson 4MA1 Foundation or Higher, because the papers differ and so does the working the mark scheme rewards. A generalist can still help, but the gap between a generalist and a specialist opens here.

Al Ain families often discover mid-Year 10 that their child is being taught Core and Extended content in the same room, with differentiation left to worksheets. That is the most common reason a local search starts, and it is a specification problem rather than a proximity problem.

IGCSE 2Ages 15-16 · Year 11

Year 11, the examined year

Proximity is now worth least and specification match worth most. The work is paper technique against a known mark scheme: command terms, timing, and the two or three question types the student reliably drops. A tutor who has not marked against the board's own scheme cannot see which word was missing from an answer that scored two of three.

Availability in Al Ain tightens sharply in the ten weeks before a series, and so does the market. A distance-first search in April returns whoever still has slots, which is the weakest possible selection criterion at the point when selection matters most.

POST-16Ages 16-19 · Years 12-13

AS, A Level and the Diploma Programme

At this level the local pool thins to almost nothing for most subjects. A Higher Level Diploma science or an A Level further maths tutor is a specialist job, and the number of people in Al Ain who have taught the current specification is small. Distance-based searching at this stage reliably produces a mismatch.

Al Ain offers fewer Diploma Programme places than Abu Dhabi island, so students wanting a particular Higher Level combination sometimes commute or change school. Planning that from Year 10, with the IGCSE grades it needs, is far cheaper than discovering it in Year 11.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The honest answer to a local search varies enormously by subject. These are the IGCSE subjects Al Ain families search for, and what the local supply position actually looks like in each.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580, Edexcel 4MA1)

Core and Extended; Foundation and Higher tier

The one subject where a local search usually works, because the pool is the largest in the city. Even here, ask which route and tier the tutor has taught: 0580 requires a non-calculator paper and 4MA1 does not tier the same way.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606), Further Pure (Edexcel 4PM1)

Single tier

The thinnest local pool of any IGCSE subject in Al Ain. Cohorts of a handful per school mean very few teachers in the city have taken it through a series. A distance-first search here reliably returns a willing generalist rather than a specialist.

Physics (Cambridge 0625, Edexcel 4PH1)

Core and Extended; Foundation and Higher

Reasonable local supply at Core level, thinner at Extended. Ask specifically about Paper 6 Alternative to Practical, which is 20% of a Cambridge Extended grade and which many general science tutors have never taught as a component.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620, Edexcel 4CH1)

Core and Extended; Foundation and Higher

Similar local picture to Physics. The subject contains three separate problems, moles calculations, qualitative analysis and organic patterns, and a tutor strong on one is not automatically strong on the others. Ask which they teach most often.

Biology (Cambridge 0610, Edexcel 4BI1)

Core and Extended; Foundation and Higher

The best-supplied science locally, and the one where general teaching helps least. Most lost marks are command-term failures rather than knowledge gaps, which needs someone who reads mark schemes rather than someone who knows biology.

Coordinated Sciences (Cambridge 0654)

Double award

Widely taught in Al Ain because triple science blocks are small, and widely misunderstood by tutors who prepare candidates with single-science papers. Ask directly whether they have taught 0654 rather than 0625, 0620 or 0610.

English as a Second Language (Cambridge 0510, 0511)

Core and Extended

Good local supply and a subject where proximity genuinely helps younger students. The exercises are predictable and unforgiving about following instructions, so marked timed practice matters more than the teaching venue.

First Language English (Cambridge 0500, Edexcel 4EA1)

Single tier

Reasonable local supply, variable quality. The test is whether the tutor talks about the mark scheme split between structure and expression, or about reading more widely. Only one of those answers earns marks in June.

Computer Science and ICT (Cambridge 0478, 0417)

Single tier

Thin locally, and the two subjects are routinely confused with each other. Computer Science needs pseudocode and trace tables; ICT needs timed software technique. Ask which code, then ask what they have taught, in that order.

Business Studies and Economics (Cambridge 0450, 0455)

Single tier

Moderate local supply. The useful skill is case-study technique and reaching the evaluation mark at the end of a long question, which is where most candidates stop. General business knowledge does not substitute for it.

Arabic as a First and as an Additional Language (Cambridge 0508, 0544)

First language and foreign language routes

Local supply exists but is often matched by subject name rather than by route. These are separate specifications with separate demands, and a first-language tutor teaching a foreign-language candidate is the common mismatch.

Geography and History (Cambridge 0460, 0470)

Single tier

Thin locally at IGCSE level. Both are source-handling and structured-recall subjects where the loss is structural: students answer the question they revised rather than the one printed. Essay planning under time is the intervention.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Whichever option you pick, these are the three shapes of support that actually exist. All three are delivered here one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, which is what removes distance from the decision.

A standing weekly slot through the term

One session a week against the school's current topic, which is the format that compounds and the one least likely to produce a spring crisis. The practical advantage over a local arrangement is that the slot does not move when traffic, weather or a previous lesson overruns, so the student's week has a fixed point in it rather than a probable one.

  • 60 or 90 minutes at the same time weekly, set after the Al Ain school run
  • Work drawn from the correct syllabus code's past-paper bank
  • Marked with mark-scheme wording so the student learns what earns the mark
  • A short written note each week rather than a monthly summary

Specialist cover for a subject with no local pool

Built for exactly the situation a near-me search exposes: the subject exists, the candidate exists, and nobody within range has taught the specification. The tutor becomes the subject's main teaching line, which changes the design of the work towards full ordered coverage with assessment points rather than week-to-week troubleshooting.

  • Common for Cambridge 0606, 0478 and some language specifications
  • Full coverage planned to the series date rather than topic-by-topic
  • Assessment points every four to six weeks using whole past papers
  • If no specialist is free, we say so and give a realistic match time

A short defined block to test the arrangement

Four to six sessions on one component with a stated finish point. This is the sensible first purchase for a family who has never used a tutor, because the commitment is small, the objective is narrow and the result is checkable on a second marked paper. It is also the fastest way to find out whether the problem was knowledge or technique.

  • One component, one diagnosed loss pattern, a defined number of sessions
  • Diagnostic first session using the most recent marked school paper
  • Evidence of progress is a second marked paper on the same component
  • No ongoing commitment, which is the point of the format

What a near-me search returns in Al Ain, and what it leaves out

  • A distance-sorted list ranks claimed location and visibility, not specification experience
  • It cannot show you that a subject has no local pool at all
  • Reorder your filters: syllabus code, then slot, then permit, then rate
  • An empty local result and a hidden local result look identical from outside

A distance-sorted search answers a question about geography. It returns businesses and individuals who have claimed a location, filled in a profile and in many cases paid for visibility, ranked roughly by how close that claimed location is to your pin. None of those inputs is correlated with whether the person has taught Cambridge 0620 Extended or Pearson 4CH1. The list is real, but it is a list of availability and marketing, not a list of specification experience.

What it leaves out is everything that decides the outcome. It does not tell you which board the tutor has taught, which tier or route, or whether they have ever marked against the published mark scheme for your child's paper. It does not tell you whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit. It does not distinguish between a university student in Asharej who is excellent with a Year 9 and a subject specialist who can see which single word was missing from an answer that scored two marks out of three.

There is also a quieter omission. A near-me list cannot tell you that the subject you need has almost no local pool, because an empty result looks the same as a result the algorithm chose not to show. A parent in Zakher searching for Additional Mathematics help sees three nearby tutors who teach maths and reasonably concludes the problem is solved. The three may never have opened an 0606 paper. The list has no way to say so and no incentive to.

The fix is to change the filter, not to search harder. Replace distance with the syllabus code, then ask about availability in your one realistic slot, then ask about the permit, then ask about the rate. That order matters: a cheap, nearby, available tutor who has not taught the specification is not a bargain, it is a term of hours aimed at the wrong paper structure. A specialist on live video who is twenty minutes from nowhere in particular is the same lesson without the drive.

02

The tutor-pool arithmetic nobody writes down

This is the section that makes the rest of the page concrete. Work from cohort size. A subject taught to a handful of candidates per year group at a handful of schools produces, over a decade, a small number of teachers in the city who have taken it through a full series. Some have left the country, some no longer tutor, and some are barred from tutoring the students who most need them because ADEK's professional-ethics rules prohibit school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school.

Subtract those and the pool for a thin-cohort subject in Al Ain is genuinely small. That is not a criticism of the city; it is arithmetic that applies to any smaller market, and it is the reason the brief for this city notes that Higher Level Diploma sciences and the less common languages are the usual gaps. The same arithmetic runs the other way for mathematics and for the sciences at Core level, where every school has large cohorts and the local pool is comfortable.

The practical consequence is that the right answer to a local search differs by subject rather than by family. For 0580 maths, a local arrangement is perfectly reasonable and you should choose on specification fluency rather than on distance. For 0606, 0478 or a less common language, the realistic choice is between a generalist nearby and a specialist on screen, and the generalist costs more in the end because the hours produce less.

The table sets this out subject by subject. The availability column describes the realistic local position in Al Ain rather than a promise about any particular week, and the final column is what we actually do when the local answer is no: disclose it, give a match time, and say where the tutor would be teaching from. No competitor page found in research discloses a coverage limit at all, and several route UAE parents to overseas numbers without mentioning it.

The four options an Al Ain family is actually choosing between

A near-me search presents one option: a person nearby. In reality there are four, and three of them rarely appear in a distance-sorted list at all. The first is the school's own support, which is free and underused. Many Al Ain schools run subject clinics, catch-up sessions or a lunchtime maths room, and the teacher running them knows the scheme of work better than any outsider will. The reason to start here is not cost, it is information: a conversation with the subject teacher tells you what the school thinks the problem is.

The second is a tuition centre, which trades attention for price. Group classes are priced well below one-to-one and work when a whole cohort needs the same coverage in the same order, which suits breadth revision. They work poorly for a diagnosed individual weakness, because the pace cannot stop on your child's specific error. Note also that a centre with premises and staff needs an educational services permit from the relevant education authority, which is a different instrument from an individual tutor's permit, and is worth asking about.

The third is an independent local tutor, which is what the search was looking for. Done well this is excellent, particularly for younger students and for mainstream subjects. The things to establish are the ones the listing does not show: the syllabus code they have taught, whether they hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, who replaces them if they leave the country mid-term, and what happens to your money if a session is missed. Independent arrangements usually have no replacement mechanism, which matters more in a smaller city.

The fourth is an online specialist, which is what this platform provides. The trade is explicit: you give up a person in the room and you gain a shortlist drawn from everyone who has taught the code. The table compares all four on the dimensions that actually differ, including the one nobody asks about until it happens, which is what occurs when the arrangement fails in March.

Why the tutor who transformed your neighbour's son may do nothing for your daughter

  • A recommendation reports one match, not a general capability
  • Ask which code, what was wrong, what changed and how it was measured
  • Boards differ: Cambridge Paper 6 has no Pearson equivalent as a separate component
  • Settle it in a free trial lesson rather than on reputation

Recommendations travel faster than any search result in Al Ain, and they are usually the reason a family picks a particular tutor. They are worth listening to and worth interrogating, because a recommendation carries almost no information about transferability. What the neighbour is reporting is the outcome of one specific match: that tutor, that subject, that board, that loss pattern, that child's temperament, in that term.

Change any one of those and the result changes. A tutor who moved a student from a 5 to a 7 in Cambridge Biology 0610 was almost certainly fixing a command-term problem, because that is the dominant loss pattern in that subject and it responds quickly. Point the same tutor at a student with genuine content gaps across 0620 Chemistry and the work is completely different, slower and less suited to their strength. The recommendation was accurate and the inference from it is wrong.

Board is the next trap. Cambridge Extended sciences use a multiple-choice paper worth 30%, an extended theory paper worth 50% and Paper 6 Alternative to Practical worth 20%, while Pearson Edexcel 4PH1, 4CH1 and 4BI1 use two written papers with practical skills assessed inside them. A tutor fluent in one may be fluent in both, but the neighbour's recommendation does not tell you which, and in Al Ain plenty of households sit different boards.

So convert the recommendation into questions rather than treating it as a verdict. Which subject and which code did they teach your child? What was actually going wrong, in the tutor's own words? What changed, and how did you know? Was it a short block or a year? A neighbour who can answer those has given you something genuinely useful. A neighbour who says the tutor was wonderful has given you a starting point for a trial lesson, which is where the question gets settled anyway.

05

What proximity genuinely buys, stated fairly

  • Presence matters most for Years 7 to 9 and for easily distracted students
  • Handwriting, calculator habits and page management are easier to fix in the room
  • Online delivery answers visibility with saved annotated work and a weekly note
  • Proximity does not supply specification experience, slot availability or a replacement

It would be easy to write this page as a case against local tutoring and dishonest to do so. Proximity buys several real things, and for some families they are decisive. The first is presence with a younger or easily distracted student. A person in the room notices the moment attention goes and can act on it without the student being able to hide behind a muted microphone. For Years 7 to 9, that is often the whole value of the arrangement.

The second is the physical craft of written subjects. Handwriting, calculator fluency, the layout of a long maths answer, how to annotate a source, how to manage a paper's physical pages under time pressure: these are easier to correct sitting beside someone. A good online tutor works around this with a shared whiteboard, a stylus and photographed work annotated live, and most of the gap closes. It does not close entirely, and saying so is more useful than pretending.

The third is household visibility. Some parents want to see the session happening, and that is a legitimate preference rather than a lack of trust. Online delivery answers it differently, with annotated work saved and sent after each session and a short written note of what was covered and set, which is a more durable record than overhearing an hour. Different, not worse, and a family entitled to prefer the room should prefer the room.

What proximity does not buy is specification experience, mark-scheme fluency, availability in the one slot your family can hold, or a replacement when the tutor leaves. In Al Ain, with a smaller pool and a wide geography, those four are usually what is actually limiting. The decision is therefore not online against local in the abstract. It is this subject, this year, this child: a Year 8 in Al Jimi who needs supervision, or a Year 11 in Al Yahar who needs someone who has taught 0606.

06

How far near me actually stretches across Al Ain

Al Ain is a low-density city, and the districts families live in sit minutes apart on a map and considerably further apart in a tutor's evening. The practical radius for an in-person arrangement is not a distance, it is a round trip that a tutor will repeat weekly for a term after already teaching all day. Once the round trip exceeds the lesson, the arrangement becomes fragile: sessions drift later, cancellations rise, and the rate rises to compensate.

The second constraint is the school run. Bus routes in a spread-out city are long, so a child in Hili or Al Yahar can arrive home close to an hour after a child who left the same campus for Al Jimi. That compresses the window in which an in-person session can start, and it compresses it exactly where the drive is longest. The two constraints multiply rather than add.

The third is the sequencing problem no parent sees. A local tutor with three evening sessions has to leave for the second before knowing whether the first will overrun. In central districts that absorbs; from Al Jimi to Al Maqam it does not. This is why in-person arrangements in outlying Al Ain districts tend to settle into later and later slots across a term, and why the family that agreed 5pm in September is sitting down at 6.15pm by February.

The table gives a planning view. The online-start column is the earliest slot a family can hold every week for a term with no journey in the way, which is the only start time worth agreeing to. Treat the in-person column as a judgement about reliability rather than about possibility: almost anything is possible once.

Checking a local tutor in one message

  • Ask to see the MoHRE private tuition work permit before the first paid lesson
  • Free of charge, valid two years, two-working-day published completion time
  • Do not pursue your child's own school teacher as a private tutor
  • Settle rate basis, cancellation terms and any tax question in writing first

If you do hire locally, the checks are quick and almost nobody makes them. Start with the permit. Private tutoring in the UAE runs on the MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, granted free of charge for two years, and applied for through MoHRE's own service, Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing, with a published two-working-day completion time. Eligible applicants include school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18.

Two quick tests follow. A tutor who says the permit is expensive has not applied, because it is free. A tutor who says it takes months has not applied either, because the published completion time is two working days. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published by the ministry, so any specific amount quoted to you is unsourced, and none appears on this page.

Then the Al Ain-specific check. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and its professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school. The MoHRE permit's code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. This is press-reported rather than quoted from the current ADEK policy document, so verify the wording with ADEK, but do not pursue the arrangement in any case.

Finally the commercial questions, which are the ones that cause the most grief later. Is the rate per hour or per session, because a 90-minute session quoted as an hourly figure is a large difference hiding in plain sight. What happens to a missed session, and who absorbs a cancellation. Does the quoted figure include any tax the provider is obliged to charge, which is a question for the provider rather than for a web page, since UAE tax treatment should be confirmed against the Federal Tax Authority. And if a trial is described as free, what the length, eligibility and conditions actually are.

Five questions that beat a map pin

  • Which syllabus code, and how many series ago?
  • What are the components and what is each worth?
  • From this marked paper, where are the marks going and which loss is cheapest to fix?
  • Are you free in the one slot we can hold every week for a term?
  • What would make you tell me we should stop?

Replace the distance filter with five questions and the search gets shorter and better. First: which syllabus code have you taught, and for how many series? A specialist names 0580 Extended or 4MA1 Higher without hesitating and says how recently. A generalist says they teach maths. Both answers are honest; only one of them is a match for an exam-year candidate.

Second: what are the components on this specification and what is each worth? For a Cambridge Extended science that is a multiple-choice paper at 30%, a theory paper at 50% and Paper 6 Alternative to Practical at 20%. For Pearson 4PH1 it is two written papers with practicals assessed inside them. A tutor who has to look this up has not taught the paper, which is a fact worth knowing before you book, not after.

Third: given this marked paper, where is my child losing marks and which is cheapest to fix? This is the question that separates tutors most sharply, and it needs the artefact in hand. A specialist separates a knowledge gap from a command-term failure, a timing problem or accuracy under pressure, and says which to attack first. Fourth: what is your availability in the one slot we can actually hold, every week, for a term? An excellent tutor with the wrong slot is not available.

Fifth, and the one that tells you most: what would make you tell me my child does not need tutoring in this subject? A tutor with an answer is thinking about your child. A tutor without one is thinking about the booking. Ask all five in a free trial lesson rather than over messages, and ask the fifth last, when the answer costs them something.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Al Ain

In a city as spread out as Al Ain, near me means something different in each district. These are the areas families search from and what the local answer realistically looks like.

Al Jimi

The densest part of the city and the one place where a distance-first search returns a reasonable list, because several long-established campuses sit close by. Even so, the list is of nearby tutors, not of tutors who teach your syllabus code.

Al Mutaredh and Al Khabisi

Central-west districts with mixed curriculum catchments. Households here often have two children at different schools on different boards, which is precisely the situation a single nearby tutor cannot usually cover.

Falaj Hazza and Al Muwaiji

Established villa districts west of the centre. The drive from the central school belt is short enough that local arrangements work, and long enough that a travel premium appears in the rate without being itemised.

Hili and Al Qattara

Northern districts with longer bus routes, so children arrive home late and local tutors arrive later. A near-me search here tends to return a shorter list than the same search in Al Jimi, for no reason other than density.

Al Towayya and Asharej

Close to the university quarter, so the nearby pool includes a high proportion of university students. That is a legitimate budget-tier option for Year 9 and Year 10 support and a weak one for an Extended exam-year subject.

Zakher

A spread-out southern district where local supply thins quickly for specialist subjects. Families here are the most likely to find that the nearest suitable tutor is not near at all, which is where the online shortlist does its work.

Al Maqam and Al Yahar

The outlying districts. A tutor's round trip from the centre can exceed the lesson, so a local search returns either a very small list or a rate that quietly prices the journey. A no-journey slot from 4.30pm is the practical alternative.

Al Foah and Al Sarooj

Northern and central districts with fewer private-school catchments nearby. A near-me search returns few results, and the useful response is to widen the filter from distance to specification rather than to accept the nearest option.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Ain

British-curriculum campuses across Al Ain

These schools run IGCSE into AS and A Level or into the Diploma Programme. Their option blocks are narrower than on Abu Dhabi island, which has a direct effect on local tutor supply: a subject taught to five candidates a year produces almost no local teaching pool over time. This is the structural reason a near-me search works for maths and fails for Additional Mathematics.

Larger cohorts, so a larger local pool in maths and the sciences, and a steady flow of students moving onto an IGCSE track part-way through. For a transition student the first weeks of any arrangement go on question style rather than content, which is a specification skill and not something proximity supplies.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Swap the distance filter for the syllabus code

Send the board, the code, the tier and the series your child is entered for, plus the Al Ain school. A single message to the school's exams officer confirms all four. That information filters a shortlist far more usefully than a radius does, and it is the first thing a specialist will ask for anyway.

  2. 02

    Attach one recently marked paper

The marked paper is what turns a conversation into a diagnosis. We use it to separate a knowledge gap from a command-term failure, a timing problem or accuracy under pressure, and to say how many sessions that specific problem realistically needs rather than quoting a default package.

  3. 03

Name the one slot you can actually hold

Work backwards from a normal arrival time, not a good one, and add thirty minutes. Al Jimi and Al Mutaredh households usually hold 5pm; Hili, Zakher, Al Maqam and Al Yahar are generally better from 5.30pm or 6pm, and from 4.30pm when no journey is involved.

  4. 04

Use the free trial to ask the five questions

The trial costs nothing and carries no obligation. Ask for the code and the component weightings, a live diagnosis from the marked paper, the real availability, and what would make them recommend stopping. If the match is wrong, say so and a different specialist is proposed.

  5. 05

Agree how it will be reviewed, and when

Fix a review point four to six weeks out and decide now what evidence it will use: marked whole papers compared side by side, not impressions. Build in the option to reduce or stop, so continuing is a decision someone makes rather than the default that happens.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched by specification, not by postcode

A tutor is proposed because they have taught the syllabus code your Al Ain school enters for. Cambridge 0580 Extended and Pearson 4MA1 Higher are different papers rewarding different working, and distance has no bearing on which of them a tutor knows.

The local supply position stated honestly

Al Ain's smaller school set leaves genuinely thin pools in subjects like Cambridge 0606 and 0478. We say where the gaps are and give a realistic match time instead of placing a willing generalist. No competitor page found in research discloses a coverage limit at all.

A replacement mechanism an independent arrangement lacks

If a match stops working or a tutor becomes unavailable mid-term, a different specialist is proposed without you restarting the search. In a smaller city with a thin local pool, that is the difference between a gap of days and a gap of weeks.

No journey to fail

Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. There are no home visits in the UAE and no premises in the country, since in-home tutoring is offered only in India. Removing the drive is what makes a 4.30pm slot in Al Yahar a slot that holds all term.

Checks you can make yourself

This page tells you how to verify a permit, what the ADEK position is on school staff tutoring their own students, and which commercial terms to settle in writing. Those checks apply whether you hire through us or hire the tutor two streets away.

Figures sourced, claims absent

Every AED band here is a published market observation attributed to its source and dated October 2026. There are no invented statistics, no self-asserted ratings, no grade promises and no claimed approval from ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, the IB, Cambridge or Pearson.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Ain: your questions answered

Why does searching for a tutor near me in Al Ain return so few useful results?+

Because the search sorts by claimed location and visibility, and because Al Ain's private-school set is smaller than Abu Dhabi island's, so the local teaching pool in any specialised subject is genuinely small. A subject taught to a handful of candidates per year group at a handful of schools produces very few teachers in the city who have taken it through a series. For mathematics and Core sciences the local pool is comfortable. For Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606, Computer Science 0478 or a less common language, a distance-first search tends to return willing generalists rather than specialists.

Should I try my child's school before hiring anyone?+

Yes, and most families skip it. Many Al Ain schools run subject clinics, catch-up sessions or a lunchtime help room, and the teacher running them knows the scheme of work better than any outsider will. The reason to start there is information as much as cost: a conversation with the subject teacher tells you what the school thinks is going wrong, which is a useful second opinion against your own. What you should not do is ask your child's own teacher to tutor them privately, which ADEK's professional-ethics rules prohibit for students enrolled at that teacher's school.

Is a tutor who lives nearby cheaper than an online specialist?+

Usually the reverse. Published UAE in-home one-to-one rates run roughly AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel included, against roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour for a qualified subject tutor working online, and budget-tier online rates have been published from around AED 45 to AED 150. Proximity adds travel to the hour whether or not it is itemised, and in outlying Al Ain districts it adds more. Those are market observations read in October 2026 and attributed to the providers who published them, not IB Gram prices; our rate is agreed after a free trial and a match.

How do I know whether my child needs a specialist or just supervision?+

Look at a marked paper. A student whose answers are broadly right but who did not finish, or who loses marks to dropped units and sign errors, often needs structure and a checking routine more than expertise, and a budget-tier tutor or even a well-run homework routine can deliver that. A student whose answers score two marks out of four despite being knowledgeable has a command-term problem, which needs someone who reads mark schemes. Blank responses clustered on particular topics mean content gaps and ordered coverage. Those are three different purchases at three different prices.

What should I ask a local Al Ain tutor before the first paid lesson?+

Five things. Which syllabus code have you taught, and how recently. What are the components on it and what is each worth. Given this marked paper, where is my child losing marks and which loss is cheapest to fix. Are you free in the one slot we can hold every week for a whole term. And what would make you tell me we should stop. Add the permit question: ask to see the MoHRE private tuition work permit, which is free of charge, valid for two years and has a published two-working-day completion time.

My neighbour's tutor was excellent for her son, so why might that not work for us?+

Because a recommendation reports one match rather than a general capability. The tutor who moved a student from a 5 to a 7 in Cambridge Biology 0610 was most likely fixing a command-term problem, which responds quickly. Point them at genuine content gaps in Chemistry 0620 and the work is slower and less suited to their strength. Board matters too, since Cambridge Extended sciences carry Paper 6 Alternative to Practical at 20% while Pearson assesses practical skills inside the written papers. Convert the recommendation into questions about code, problem and evidence, then settle it in a trial lesson.

Does a tuition centre in Al Ain count as a tutor near me?+

It is a different product rather than a nearer version of the same one. Group classes are priced well below one-to-one and work when a whole cohort needs the same coverage in the same order, which suits breadth revision before a series. They work poorly for a diagnosed individual weakness, because the pace cannot stop on your child's particular error. One practical check: a centre operating with premises and staff needs an educational services permit from the relevant education authority, which is a different instrument from an individual tutor's permit, so ask which they hold.

What happens if a local tutor leaves Al Ain halfway through Year 11?+

With an independent arrangement, you restart the search in the worst possible month, and in a city with a thin pool in your subject that can take weeks. This is the risk nobody discusses at the start and the one that does the most damage, because the replacement has to rebuild the diagnosis from scratch. It is worth asking any independent tutor directly what their plan is if their circumstances change. Where a platform made the match, a different specialist in the same specification can be proposed without the family starting again.

Is a university student in Asharej a reasonable tutor for IGCSE?+

For the right job, yes. University students are eligible to hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, and published budget-tier rates of roughly AED 45 to AED 150 an hour make them an efficient choice for Year 9 and Year 10 structure, homework accountability and basic topic revision. They are a weak choice for exam-year work on an Extended or Higher tier paper, where the value comes from mark-scheme fluency and knowing which single word was missing from an answer. Match the tier of tutor to the tier of problem rather than to the budget alone.

How late can a weekly session start in an outlying Al Ain district?+

Later than most families plan for, which is why so many arrangements drift. School buses in a spread-out city run long routes, so a child in Al Yahar or Hili can arrive home close to an hour after a child who left the same campus for Al Jimi. Add thirty minutes for food and the realistic start is 5.30pm or 6pm. With no journey involved, a 4.30pm slot becomes practical in those same districts, and the slot that matters is the one the family can hold every week for a term, not the earliest one they can manage once.

Can an online tutor correct handwriting, layout and calculator technique?+

Mostly, and this is the fairest thing to say about the format's limits. A shared whiteboard with a stylus lets a tutor watch working appear stroke by stroke, which is better diagnosis than reading a finished answer, and handwritten school work photographed before the session can be annotated live. Calculator sequences can be demonstrated on screen. What does not transfer completely is the physical management of a paper under time pressure, which is best rehearsed by sitting whole past papers at home under exam conditions and sending them in to be marked.

Which authority regulates tutoring in Al Ain, and does it vet tutors for me?+

No authority vets individual tutors on a parent's behalf. ADEK supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, which includes Al Ain, and MoHRE issues the private tuition work permit under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. Neither sets what a tutor may charge you, and neither publishes a directory of approved individuals. The checks are yours to make: ask for the permit, ask about the syllabus code, and settle the commercial terms in writing. IB Gram holds no approval or accreditation from any of these bodies and claims none.

Is it worth running trial lessons with several IGCSE tutors at once?+

One, if the first trial produces a real diagnosis; two if it does not. The point of a trial is not to compare personalities, it is to find out whether someone can read a marked paper and tell you where the marks are going. A tutor who does that convincingly is worth starting with, and the arrangement can be reviewed on evidence four to six weeks later. Trialling four tutors costs a fortnight of a Year 11 term, which is a real cost in the spring, and comparison on charm rather than diagnosis tends to pick the most confident rather than the most useful.

Does IB Gram have a tutor based in Al Ain who can come to us?+

No. IB Gram runs no home visits anywhere in the UAE and has no office, centre or branch in the country; in-home tutoring is a service offered only in India. Al Ain families are taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. The reason we work this way in a city like Al Ain is supply: the shortlist is drawn from every tutor who has taught your child's syllabus code rather than from those who can reach Zakher or Al Maqam by six, and no session depends on a journey that traffic can ruin.

What is the single most useful thing to send when asking about a tutor?+

One recently marked school paper, with the marks and comments still on it, plus the syllabus code and the series your child is entered for. That combination lets a specialist say something specific in the first conversation rather than describing their approach. It also tells you quickly whether you are talking to someone who teaches the paper: a specialist reads the paper and names the loss pattern, while a generalist reads it and describes the subject. Everything else, rate, slot, frequency, follows more easily once that is settled.

Change the filter, then take the trial

If a search for an IGCSE tutor near me in Al Ain has returned a short and unconvincing list, the problem is usually the filter rather than the city. Send the syllabus code, the series and one recently marked paper, and name the single slot your household can hold every week for a term. We will come back with a specialist who has taught that code, a diagnosis of where the marks are going, and an honest view of how many sessions it needs, including the option that it needs none. The trial lesson is free, lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, and the annotated work from each session is saved and sent to you.
