IGCSE Home Tutor in Al Maqam

Most pages about hiring an IGCSE home tutor in Al Maqam start at the premium end and work down. This one starts at the cheapest thing that actually works and only adds cost where the cheaper option genuinely fails. It publishes the AED bands with sources, names the three extras nobody quotes, and shows where money disappears without improving a grade. IB Gram teaches Al Maqam students one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

IB & IGCSE in Al Maqam

Start with the cheapest thing that works

The usual way to shop for tutoring is to decide a budget and then find out what it buys. That gets the order wrong. The better sequence is to establish the smallest intervention that would actually fix the problem, price that, and only move up when the cheap option demonstrably cannot do the job. For a large share of IGCSE problems the smallest intervention is four to six sessions on one component, which at mid-market rates is a one-off figure rather than a monthly commitment.

Here are the published bands this market works in, each attributed and read in October 2026. Tutopiya advertises from AED 33 to AED 52 an hour. EdFlik advertises from AED 45 to AED 65. Unitors publishes AED 150 for IGCSE and AED 200 for IB. TutorChase quotes AED 270. BartyED quotes AED 650. Bestimate's 2026 rate table puts in-home one-to-one at AED 180 to AED 350 and specialist tuition at AED 200 to AED 450 and above. That is a twentyfold spread, and it is not a quality ladder with a single rung size.

Monthly, the same picture looks different and more useful. Bestimate's estimates for a weekly one-hour session run AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 in the middle and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Packages seen in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four in-home two-hour sessions. Those are the numbers a household budget is actually built from.

Al Maqam is on the southern side of Al Ain, spread across newer compounds, and distance has a direct cost effect. A visiting tutor loses something like forty unbilled minutes on a southern round trip, and the in-home band exists partly to pay for that. Online delivery at AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject tutor removes the travel component from the price without removing the teacher.

Al Maqam sits in Al Ain, part of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, so the regulator is ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Al Ain's private-school set is much smaller than Abu Dhabi island's, and that scarcity has a price consequence: in the subjects few schools offer, local rates sit at the top of their band and waits get longer. That is the most important local cost fact on this page.

IB Gram does not publish a rate card and does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE, because home visiting is a service we run only in India. We quote per plan after a free trial session, and every AED figure on this page is a market band from a named source rather than an offer. The point of publishing them is that a family should know what the market charges before anyone names a number.

  • Qualified online subject tutor: AED 150-300 an hour (Unitors publishes IGCSE from 150)
  • In-home one-to-one with travel: AED 180-500 an hour (Bestimate and independent tutors)
  • Monthly packages seen: AED 799 for eight online sessions; AED 1,599-1,799 in-home
  • Scarce subjects cost more in Al Ain because few schools offer them, not because of distance
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Price varies by route as well as by subject, because the amount of assessed material and the number of papers differ. These are the three routes a cost-conscious Al Maqam family will be choosing between.

CAIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Four-digit syllabus codes with many subjects tiered into Core and Extended, and a grade ceiling on Core. Sciences carry a practical component, either a laboratory test or an alternative-to-practical written paper, and the school chooses which. Cambridge runs the qualification in a June series and a November series, with Checkpoint tests at Lower Secondary in March, May and October.

The cost-relevant detail is that Extended tier covers more content, which means more hours if a student is behind. Moving a student from insecure Extended to secure Extended is a term's project, while polishing a secure Extended student's technique is a short block. Confirming the tier before buying anything is therefore the single cheapest decision available, and it is free: the school office will tell you.

PearsonAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Codes run 4MA1, 4PH1, 4CH1, 4BI1 and 4EA1. Mathematics A tiers into Foundation and Higher; the international sciences are untiered and assess practical skills inside the written papers rather than separately. Modular availability in some subjects changes when a result can be banked and when a resit is possible, which has a cost implication of its own.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams run in May/June and November each year. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. A November entry historically means a January result, which matters if a deadline falls in between and a family is deciding whether a resit is worth paying for.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

AS and A Level progression

The tier and grade a student leaves IGCSE with determines which AS subjects remain open. Core tier generally closes AS Mathematics and the separate sciences, and discovering that in Year 12 means paying for a recovery that a Year 10 conversation would have prevented. This is the most expensive avoidable error in the whole British-curriculum route.

For UAE university entry the Ministry of Education equivalency rule on the British track asks for five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are excluded from the five. The cost consequence is that five comfortable passes are worth more than two outstanding ones and three marginal ones.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The cost of support is not uniform across subjects, because scarcity sets the rate and the failure modes differ in how long they take to fix. Each entry below says what the hour has to do.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended; Pearson 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

Well supplied, so the rate should sit mid-band rather than high. Most lost marks are omitted method lines in multi-step questions, which is a technique problem and therefore a short block rather than a term. The most commonly over-bought subject in this market.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606

Calculus and series outside the 0580 specification. Offered by few Al Ain schools, so the pool is small and local rates sit at the top of the band with longer waits. This is the clearest case where paying more is justified and a cheaper substitute is not a substitute.

Physics

Cambridge 0625; Pearson 4PH1

Electricity, waves and the practical component. Uncertainty treatment and significant figures are cheap to fix and carry easy marks, which makes a three to five session block unusually good value compared with a standing weekly slot.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620; Pearson 4CH1

Moles arithmetic defeats students who understand the chemistry perfectly well. Because the failure is narrow, so is the fix, and a family should resist being sold a whole-syllabus course when a calculation drill is what is needed.

Biology

Cambridge 0610; Pearson 4BI1

Command-term discipline decides the grade and transfers across the paper once learned. Well supplied online, so there is no reason to accept a premium rate or a long wait. Among the cheapest subjects to improve per hour spent.

Co-ordinated and Combined Science

Cambridge 0654 and 0653

A different content map from the separate sciences, so hours spent with a separate-science tutor can go on material that is not examined. Confirming the code before booking prevents an expensive and entirely invisible waste.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 first language, 0510/0511 second language; Pearson 4EA1

First and second language are separate specifications. Placing a candidate with a tutor for the wrong one is the costliest misdiagnosis in this subject, because the mark schemes reward different things and the student improves at the wrong skill.

Economics and Business

Cambridge 0455 and 0450; Pearson 4EC1 and 4BS1

Diagram accuracy and applied data response. The usual failure, describing rather than analysing, is structural and transfers, so four to six hours does most of the available work. Poor value as an open-ended weekly commitment.

Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge 0478 and 0417

Pseudocode, trace tables and ICT practical tasks. Scarce in Al Ain, so expect a top-of-band rate and a wait. A capable programmer who has not taught the specification is cheaper and will teach the wrong material competently.

Geography and History

Cambridge 0460 and 0470

Source skills and extended-answer structure. The marks are in organisation rather than content volume, which makes these among the most improvable subjects per dirham spent, and almost always a block rather than a course.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways to spend the same money, listed from least expensive. The first is adequate more often than the market admits, and the third is worth its price only in specific circumstances.

Short targeted block

Four to six sessions on one named component, ending when it is fixed. At the qualified-tutor band of AED 150 to AED 300 an hour this is a one-off figure between roughly AED 600 and AED 1,800, with no monthly commitment. It is the cheapest thing that reliably moves an IGCSE grade and the option families discover last.

  • Defined start and end, so the total is a number you can plan
  • Requires a marked paper first, which the free trial session provides
  • Repeatable per component rather than renewed by default
  • Cannot rebuild a topic that was never taught

Weekly one-to-one across a term

The standard product and the one most families buy first. At mid-market rates it is the AED 600 to AED 1,200 monthly line. It earns its cost when a student has a broad content gap rather than a single weakness, and wastes it when nobody has defined what finished looks like.

  • Fixed weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time, same tutor all term
  • Best value in Year 10, before the exam-year premium applies
  • Needs a review point written down at the start
  • Becomes expensive the moment it renews without being reviewed

Twice-weekly exam-year plan

The AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 and above monthly band. Justified for a student genuinely behind in a subject they need, and only when the two sessions do different jobs: one on content and one on timed paper practice. Two identical sessions a week is paying twice for one effect.

  • One session on content, one on timed technique, with marking between
  • Six to eight months, not two years
  • Scheduled around the school's own mock window
  • Should taper in the final fortnight rather than intensify

IB and IGCSE tutors available to students in Al Maqam

Tutors are listed against a syllabus code and tier, and the rate follows the scarcity of that combination rather than a fixed price list. Mathematics 0580 is a different market from Additional Mathematics 0606, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest pricing.

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Maqam

01

The cheapest intervention that actually works

Start here rather than at the top. The table below lists interventions from least to most expensive, with what each genuinely fixes and the point at which it stops being enough. Most IGCSE problems presented to us are narrower than the family thinks, and a narrower problem needs a cheaper solution.

The first row is free and is skipped by almost everyone. Confirming the board, syllabus code and tier with the school office, and getting hold of a marked paper, costs nothing and frequently changes the diagnosis entirely. Families who buy a term of general support for a problem that turns out to be a wrong-specification placement have spent several thousand dirhams on the wrong question.

The second row is nearly free: using the school. Subject teachers hold clinics, departments run revision sessions and schools will usually explain a mark scheme if asked directly. None of that replaces one-to-one teaching for a real gap, but it closes a surprising number of the small ones, and it is the first thing worth exhausting.

The paid rows start where those stop. The ordering principle is that cost should follow scarcity and difficulty: a technique problem in a well-supplied subject is the cheapest thing in this market, and a content rebuild in a subject few teachers cover is the dearest. If a quote does not reflect that logic, ask why.

One caution about the cheapest rows. Free is not the same as sufficient, and a family who exhausts the school's own support and still has a student stuck on extended-response technique has learned something useful rather than wasted a term. The ladder is meant to be climbed, not admired from the bottom.

02

What a properly supported IGCSE year costs

Families budget tutoring as a flat monthly figure and it is not one. The need is lumpy: light in early Year 10, heavier when tier decisions are made, heaviest in the ten weeks before a series, and lighter again in the final fortnight. The table stages it, which is the form a two-year plan can actually be priced in.

The most valuable row is the tier decision window in the spring of Year 10. A small number of hours there, aimed at whether a student can be made secure on Extended content, changes the qualification they leave with and therefore what the next stage will cost. Hours spent later cannot buy back a tier.

The row most families get wrong is the final fortnight. The instinct is to add sessions as the papers approach, and the evidence from marked work usually says the opposite: fewer new inputs, more self-marking, earlier nights. A provider proposing extra hours in the last week without pointing at a paper is responding to anxiety, and anxiety is expensive.

Totalled, a staged plan in one subject across both IGCSE years lands well below a flat AED 1,000 a month sustained for twenty-four months, and does more work. That is an argument for sequencing rather than for spending, and it is the single most useful thing on this page.

A second planning note. These hour counts assume one subject. A student needing two supported does not need double the hours in each, because the study-habit and timing work overlaps, but they do need two diagnoses and two tutors. From Al Maqam, with limited weekday capacity, the second subject usually belongs in a holiday block rather than in a third weeknight.

The hourly bands, cheapest first, and the question to ask each

Three of the six best-ranking pages for UAE tutoring queries publish no price at all, and the two that do quote US dollars, a currency no Al Ain family transacts in. The table below gives the published AED bands in ascending order, with the question worth asking at each level. The bands are competitors' figures quoted for comparison, not claims about their quality.

Reading upward rather than downward changes behaviour. A family that starts at AED 650 and negotiates downward ends up paying a lot for reassurance. A family that starts at AED 50 and moves up only when the cheaper option visibly fails ends up paying for the specific thing that was missing, which is usually one band up rather than four.

The questions in the final column are the actual value of the table. At the budget end the right question is what the hour contains, because supervised practice and syllabus teaching are different products sold under one word. At the top end the right question is what makes this individual scarce, and the answer should be a subject, a level and a track record rather than an adjective.

One band deserves particular scepticism, and it is the in-home one. AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel included is a legitimate price for a car and forty unbilled minutes. From a southern Al Ain address it is also the band where a family is most likely to be paying a premium for a tutor who does not teach the subject at issue, which is the worst combination available.

The three extras nobody quotes

  • Cancellation window and whether late cancellations are billed
  • Whether the quoted figure includes value added tax, in writing
  • Whether marking of between-session work is included or extra
  • Whether resources are supplied, charged, or expected from the school
  • Whether the rate changes closer to a series, and by how much

A quoted hourly rate is not the price of tutoring, and the gap between them is where family budgets quietly fail. Three extras recur, none of them dishonest in itself, and all of them worth asking about before the first session rather than discovering in month three.

The first is cancellation. A tutor who bills for sessions cancelled inside twenty-four hours is being reasonable about their own income, and a family with an unpredictable week should know the figure. Over a term, two or three billed cancellations is the price of a whole short block, and it is entirely avoidable with a stated policy and a slot that can move.

The second is tax treatment. Ask simply whether the quoted figure includes value added tax, and get the answer in writing. This page does not state the UAE tax treatment of tuition fees as a general fact, because that would need a Federal Tax Authority citation, and a tutoring site is the wrong place to learn it. What a family can reasonably insist on is clarity about the number they are being asked to pay.

The third is materials and marking. Some providers charge for resources or for marking work between sessions, and some include both. Neither model is wrong, but they are not comparable on the hourly rate alone. Ask whether work set between sessions is marked, and whether that marking is inside the hour or billed on top; for an IGCSE plan that detail changes the real cost by a meaningful fraction.

05

Group or one-to-one: the economics for an IGCSE student

Group tuition is obviously cheaper per hour and not obviously cheaper per grade, and the distinction depends on one thing: whether every student in the group has the same gap. That is a question with a factual answer, and a family can ask it before joining.

Where a group works is broad revision. Four students covering a full syllabus at similar standard get most of the benefit of the hour each, and the cost per student falls sharply. Where it fails is a specific weakness: a student who is secure everywhere except extended-response questions spends most of each hour watching someone else's problem being solved.

There is a second, quieter cost to groups that nobody prices. A student who is behind will not ask the question they need to ask in front of three peers, and a student who is ahead will stop paying attention. Both are real losses, and both are invisible in a rate comparison.

IB Gram provides one-to-one only, which is a commercial position as well as a pedagogical one and should be read as such. If the budget points to a group, the sensible approach is to find one organised by topic rather than by subject, ask what the group's actual starting point is, and keep a short one-to-one block in reserve for the component the group will not reach.

A reasonable hybrid exists and is rarely offered. Use a group for broad syllabus revision at the lower rate, and keep three or four one-to-one sessions in reserve for the component the group will never reach. That costs less than a full one-to-one plan and more than a group, which is usually the correct answer for a family genuinely constrained on budget.

Tutoring cost in the context of UAE school fees

Tutoring spend makes more sense placed beside school fees than examined alone, and there is published context worth using. In Dubai, the private school sector in 2024-25 held 387,441 students across 227 private schools offering 17 different curricula, with the UK curriculum at 37 per cent of students, Indian at 26, US at 14 and the International Baccalaureate at 7.

On fees, KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no increase in school fees for private schools in the emirate for the 2026-27 academic year, under Dubai's second economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. Dubai's 2026-27 intake also adds seven new private schools, four UK curriculum and three International Baccalaureate, creating 16,846 new places, after six new schools opened during 2025-26 and enrolment rose 6 per cent.

Those figures are Dubai's and are cited as such; Al Maqam sits under ADEK rather than KHDA and nothing above should be read as applying to Al Ain's fees. What the context does give an Al Ain family is a sense of scale. Against a school fee measured in tens of thousands of dirhams a year, a staged tutoring plan of AED 600 to AED 1,200 a month for part of a year is a modest marginal cost, and an unstaged one running for twenty-four months is not.

The honest conclusion is that tutoring is worth buying deliberately and worth stopping deliberately. The families who spend least per grade are the ones who defined the problem, bought the narrowest thing that would fix it and ended the arrangement when it was fixed. Nobody in this market has a commercial interest in telling you that, which is why it belongs on the page.

07

A free permit, and why nobody should charge you for it

Private tutoring in the UAE runs on a permit and the permit is free, which matters on a cost page because it is sometimes presented as a justification for a higher rate. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years.

The breadth of the eligible list is the part that surprises families in Al Maqam, where a good tutor is as likely to be a neighbour as an agency name. MoHRE admits teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students — so the UAE University undergraduate taking Core maths on a Saturday morning and the full-time school teacher doing evening work sit under one scheme. The service to ask about by name is MoHRE's own 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing', applied for through the MoHRE smart app, the website or the e-services system. Its page lists no fee and a stated two-working-day completion time, which is short enough that a tutor who has been teaching in this district for a term has had no reason not to hold one.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published anywhere, so no amount should be quoted to you, and a figure circulating online as a penalty should be treated as unverified. The question worth asking is about the permit rather than the penalty: which category, issued when.

One further distinction, because it is sometimes used loosely in pricing. A tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai needs a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, involving initial approval, a maximum of six months to complete the permit and licence steps, and annual renewal requested at least thirty days before expiry. That is a specific thing, and no online tutor or matching platform, including IB Gram, should be described as holding it.

08

What money cannot buy, at any price

The research behind this page found an operation selling completed Internal Assessments to UAE students at around AED 3,750. That number belongs on a cost page because it is the single worst purchase available in this market: it buys a risk to the qualification the whole two years were for, and it is marketed in the same search results as legitimate tutoring.

The boundary is checkable. Legitimate support means teaching a technique, explaining why a mark scheme rewards one phrasing over another, marking the student's own practice work, drilling calculation types and rehearsing oral components. For IGCSE practical papers it includes apparatus conventions, uncertainty treatment and reading results tables, all examinable skills that can be taught without a laboratory.

What falls outside is producing data, writing up an investigation, supplying answers for submitted work, or preparing material a student presents as their own. We also will not reproduce or supply board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads; the right move is to cite the official page and link to it.

One test, asked before any money moves, settles which kind of provider you are speaking to. Ask what they will do if a student brings coursework the night before it is due. An answer about reading the draft and marking it against criteria is correct. An answer that involves fixing it tells you what else that provider is willing to sell, and at that point the rate is irrelevant.

09

Where Al Maqam families waste money

  • Paying a travel premium for a tutor who does not teach the subject at issue
  • Open-ended monthly support with no defined endpoint
  • Four subjects at one hour each instead of one at four
  • Repeated tutor changes, each restarting the slow first sessions
  • Buying anything at all before confirming the board, code and tier

Four patterns account for most of the preventable spend we see from this area, and all four are within a parent's control. The first is paying the in-home travel premium for a compromise: a southern address, a thin local pool and a narrow evening window combine so that the tutor who can come is often not a teacher of the subject at issue, and the family pays the top of the band for general supervision.

The second is buying hours instead of a diagnosis. A student losing marks on Chemistry calculations needs a few hours on moles arithmetic, not a syllabus course. Without a diagnosis the default purchase is open-ended weekly support that renews every month because nobody defined what finished looks like, and that is the largest single waste available in this market.

The third is spreading thinly. Four subjects at one hour each costs more and achieves less than one subject at four hours, because each subject gets too little to change anything. A family with a real budget constraint should support one subject properly and use the school's own clinics for the rest.

The fourth is churn. Changing tutor three times in a year means paying three times for the first few sessions, which are always the slowest, and a student who has explained their own weakness to three different adults stops bothering. Diagnose once, match once, review on a schedule rather than on a bad week.

Where we tutor

Al Maqam and the surrounding areas

Published rates do not change by Al Ain district, so what follows is about supply and travel rather than price. These are the areas Al Maqam families compare themselves with.

Zakher

Further south towards the Omani border, with the longest journeys in the city. In-home quotes here reach the top of the UAE band purely because of travel, with no gain in teaching.

Al Yahar

Outlying and agricultural, well away from the main school cluster. Families here see the clearest version of the travel premium and the least reason to pay it.

Al Khabisi

Central with short runs. Same rates, same tutor pool, more usable weekday slots, which is worth more than any discount a district could offer.

Al Mutaredh

Beside the central school cluster with the shortest journeys. The only place in the city where in-home economics make reasonable sense for a weekday session.

Al Jimi

Dense and long-established near the souk and hospital. Moderate journeys, with household patterns pushing useful slots later in the evening.

Hili

North of the centre towards the Oman road, a long run from the other direction. Identical rates and a near-identical constraint to Al Maqam's.

Al Towayya

Villa housing with a strong Extended-tier cohort and real demand for Additional Mathematics 0606, the city's scarcest and therefore dearest subject.

Falaj Hazza

Central and established with dependable mid-afternoon availability, which is the practical benefit a southern family is actually paying extra to approximate.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Maqam

Southern Al Ain, nearest to Al Maqam

These are the schools closest to the area, and between them they use both exam boards, which is why a family's first cost-saving step is to confirm which. Check each school's licensed curriculum and latest inspection outcome on ADEK's own listing rather than on a school's own site.

Many Al Maqam students travel to the central cluster, and for them the travel premium on in-home tuition is at its highest while the benefit is at its lowest, because the session starts late and the tutor arrives tired.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Do the free step first

Get the board, syllabus code and tier from the school office and obtain a recent marked paper. This costs nothing, takes one phone call and frequently changes the diagnosis, which means it occasionally removes the need to buy anything at all. Families who skip it buy a term of support for the wrong problem.

  2. 02

Ask for the narrowest plan that would work

Send the marked paper and ask what the smallest intervention is. A good answer names a component, a session count and a stopping condition. An answer that starts with a monthly package has not looked at the evidence, and a family is entitled to push back on it before paying anything.

  3. 03

Free trial, which produces a priced plan

A full session with the tutor who would teach the course, no card required. The output should be a named weakness, an hour estimate and therefore a cost you can compare against the bands on this page. You keep the diagnosis whether or not you continue with us.

  4. 04

    Settle the extras in writing

Cancellation window, whether late cancellations are billed, whether the figure includes value added tax, and whether marking of between-session work is inside the hour or charged on top. These three details move the real cost of an IGCSE plan by a meaningful fraction and nobody volunteers them.

  5. 05

    Review and stop

Check the plan against the weakness it was bought to fix at the agreed session count. Closed means stop or move to the next named component. Not closed means change the approach or the tutor, not add hours. Plans without a review point renew by default, which is how a budget doubles without a decision.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Cheapest option named first

This page opens with the free steps and the short block rather than the premium plan, because for most IGCSE problems presented to us the narrow intervention is the correct one and the market has no commercial reason to say so.

Every figure attributed and dated

The AED bands here come from named providers and from Bestimate's 2026 rate table, read in October 2026. Three of the six pages currently ranking for these queries publish no price at all and the two that do quote US dollars.

No rate card, and a reason

We quote per plan after a free trial because the right figure depends on the subject's scarcity and the plan's length. Additional Mathematics 0606 is a different market from Mathematics 0580, and a single published rate would be either misleading or too high.

The extras raised before you ask

Cancellation policy, tax inclusion and whether marking is inside the hour change the real cost materially. We put them in the process rather than in the small print, because they are where family budgets actually break.

Online, stated up front

One-to-one live video on Gulf Standard Time, with no home visits anywhere in the UAE. On the in-home axis we are not an option, and from a southern Al Ain address that is also the band where a premium buys the least.

No claimed approvals, no invented statistics

No accreditation or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, Cambridge International or Pearson, no self-generated ratings, no guaranteed grades and no figure without a source and a date.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Maqam: your questions answered

What is the smallest amount an Al Maqam family can usefully spend on IGCSE support?+

Confirming the board, syllabus code and tier with the school and getting a marked paper, which is free and sometimes changes the diagnosis completely. After that, the cheapest paid option that reliably works is a block of four to six sessions on one named component with a qualified subject tutor, which at AED 150 to AED 300 an hour is a one-off figure of roughly AED 600 to AED 1,800. It cannot rebuild a topic nobody taught, but for a technique failure it does most of the available work.

How much does an IGCSE tutor in Al Maqam cost per hour?+

Published bands in this market, read in October 2026: AED 33 to AED 52 and AED 45 to AED 65 at the budget end, AED 150 for IGCSE from one specialist agency, AED 180 to AED 500 for an in-home visit with travel included, AED 200 to AED 450 and above for subject specialists, and AED 650 for one premium named tutor. Rates are set by provider type rather than by Al Ain district, so searching a different neighbourhood will not lower them. What does differ locally is supply in the scarce subjects.

Is the in-home premium worth paying from a southern Al Ain address?+

Rarely, and for a specific reason. The premium of roughly AED 30 to AED 200 an hour over the online band pays for a car and about forty unbilled minutes on a southern round trip. That is a fair price for travel. The problem is what it buys alongside: a tutor who can reach Al Maqam on a weekday evening is often not a teacher of the subject at issue, because Al Ain's smaller private-school set makes specialists scarce citywide. Paying more for a worse match is the pattern to avoid.

What should an IGCSE year actually cost if we plan it properly?+

Less than a flat monthly figure sustained for two years, and staged rather than level. The need is light in early Year 10, concentrated in the spring tier decision, heavier in Year 11's first term and after mocks, heaviest in the final ten weeks and lighter again in the last fortnight. Staged that way at mid-market rates, one subject across both years comes in well below AED 1,000 a month maintained for twenty-four months, and achieves more because the hours sit where they do work.

Does IB Gram charge extra for a tutor to visit our home in Al Maqam?+

We do not offer it at any price. IB Gram provides no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-person home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Al Maqam students are taught one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. We say so before any booking because the phrase families search is 'home tutor' and the format should not be a surprise. If physical presence is a requirement, hire locally and ask about the MoHRE permit category, the syllabus taught and the cancellation policy.

Are the AED 50 an hour tutors a false economy?+

Not for the right job. Published budget bands start around AED 33 to AED 65 an hour and buy supervised practice: someone keeping a student at the desk, checking homework is done and answering straightforward questions. For a Year 10 student who understands the material but does not work consistently, that is precisely the problem. It is a false economy when used for syllabus-level teaching, because the hour will be pleasant and the Paper 4 technique will not change. Match the band to the diagnosis.

What extras should we ask about before booking an IGCSE tutor?+

Three, and none of them is usually volunteered. The cancellation window and whether late cancellations are billed, because two or three billed cancellations across a term costs as much as a short block. Whether the quoted figure includes value added tax, in writing. And whether marking of work set between sessions is inside the hour or charged on top, because for an IGCSE plan that detail moves the real cost by a meaningful fraction. Get all three answered before the first session, not during the third month.

Is a group IGCSE class better value than one-to-one?+

On price per hour, clearly. On price per grade, only when every student in the group has the same gap. A group of four revising a whole syllabus at similar standard works well. The same group is poor value for a student secure everywhere except extended-response questions, because most of the hour addresses someone else. There is also an unpriced cost: a student who is behind will not admit confusion in front of peers. If a group is what the budget allows, choose one organised by topic rather than by subject.

Why does Additional Mathematics 0606 cost more in Al Ain?+

Because few schools here offer it, so few local teachers have taken a cohort through it. Al Ain's private-school set is considerably smaller than Abu Dhabi island's and the teaching population scales with it, which pushes scarce-subject rates to the top of their band and lengthens the wait. A Mathematics 0580 specialist is cheaper and is not a substitute, since 0606 introduces calculus and series outside the 0580 specification entirely. This is one of the few cases where paying more is the correct decision rather than an avoidable one.

Do we have to pay anything for a tutor's UAE permit?+

No, and you should be suspicious of anyone who suggests otherwise. The MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, is granted free of charge for two years and applied for through MoHRE's private tutor licensing service with a stated two-working-day completion. Eligible categories include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Working without one carries fines and penalties under the applicable laws, though no fine schedule is published anywhere.

How does tutoring spend compare with UAE school fees?+

It is a small marginal cost if staged and a significant one if open-ended. For scale, Dubai's private sector held 387,441 students across 227 schools offering 17 curricula in 2024-25, and KHDA confirmed on 22 May 2026 that there would be no fee increase for 2026-27 under an incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion. Those figures are Dubai's, and Al Maqam sits under ADEK rather than KHDA. Against an annual fee, a staged plan of AED 600 to AED 1,200 a month for part of a year is modest; the same figure maintained for two years is not.

Should we buy more sessions in the final fortnight before the papers?+

Almost never, and this is where anxiety becomes expensive. By then the evidence from marked work usually points the other way: no new content, the student marking their own practice against mark schemes, earlier nights. The final fortnight should be quieter than the eight weeks before it. If a provider proposes extra sessions in the last week, ask which paper the evidence came from. Two or three sessions in that window, used to arbitrate the student's own marking, is the sensible ceiling.

We can only afford one subject. Which one?+

The one where a marked paper shows a specific, diagnosable loss, and ideally one of the five needed for equivalency rather than a sixth or seventh entry. On the British track, the Ministry of Education asks for five accredited GCSE or IGCSE passes at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the five. So five comfortable passes are worth more than two outstanding ones and three marginal ones. Within that, pick the subject where a narrow technique failure is costing the most marks, not the one with the lowest grade.

How do we stop the monthly cost from running on indefinitely?+

Write the stopping condition down before the first paid session. It should name a component, a weakness and a session count, with a review at the end of it. If the weakness has closed, stop or move to the next named one. If it has not, change the approach or the tutor rather than adding hours. Plans without a review point renew by default, which is how a tutoring budget doubles with nobody deciding to spend more. A provider who will not agree one is telling you something useful.

Buy the narrowest thing that would fix it

The cheapest route to a better IGCSE grade in Al Maqam starts with two free steps: confirm the board, syllabus code and tier with the school, and get hold of a marked paper. Most of what families buy after that is wider than the problem. A block of four to six sessions on one named component, at the published AED 150 to AED 300 band, is a one-off figure rather than a monthly commitment and does most of the available work on a technique failure. Send us the marked paper and we will tell you what the smallest useful plan looks like, with the cost attached. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
