IB Home Tutor in Al Maqam

The practical obstacle to hiring an IB home tutor in Al Maqam is not money or motivation; it is the hour between the end of the school day and the point at which a Diploma student stops being able to think. This page starts there. It sets out which schools Al Maqam feeds, when the day really ends once activities and the drive are counted, and how to build a week that survives it. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Built from school end times and journey length, not from a generic timetable
  • Live one-to-one video only; IB Gram runs no home visits in the UAE
  • Al Maqam sits under ADEK, which licenses Abu Dhabi's private schools
  • Sessions move for mock weeks and Ramadan timings rather than being lost

IB & IGCSE in Al Maqam

The real question in Al Maqam is what time, not who

Al Maqam sits on the southern side of Al Ain, spread out across newer villa compounds, and the distances inside it are larger than the city's central districts. Students from here attend schools across the city, and once an after-school commitment and the drive home are counted, a Diploma day frequently ends after five. That single fact decides most of what a tutoring plan can contain, and almost nothing published about tutoring in this market acknowledges it.

Work it through. A Higher Level student with six subjects, Theory of Knowledge, an Extended Essay and a Creativity, Activity, Service commitment has a finite number of evenings. If the first usable hour begins at six and the student is genuinely done by half past nine, there are perhaps two weekday sessions available in a week before something else gives way. Families who book three and expect four are not planning, they are hoping.

This is why the common matching question is the wrong way round. Asking who can come to Al Maqam on a Tuesday produces a short list of people whose own driving schedule happens to fit, and their subject is whatever it is. Asking who teaches Chemistry Higher Level and holds a six o'clock Tuesday slot every week produces a list of specialists, because the slot is negotiable in a way that a car journey is not.

Al Maqam is part of Al Ain, which sits in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, so the regulator is ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. ADEK's listing is the right place to confirm which programmes a school is licensed to deliver and how it has been inspected, and it matters here because Al Ain's private-school set is considerably smaller than Abu Dhabi island's.

The scarcity that follows from that smaller school set lands hardest on exactly the subjects a Diploma student is most likely to need: Higher Level sciences and the less common languages. Combine thin local supply with a southern address and a narrow evening window and the in-home arithmetic stops working. The tutor who can reach Al Maqam at seven on a Wednesday is rarely also the person who has taught Physics Higher Level for six cohorts.

IB Gram's answer is one-to-one live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time, matched on subject and level. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is a service we run only in India. For an Al Maqam family the practical gain is specific rather than philosophical: the session starts when the student sits down, it does not depend on a route across the city, and it moves when the week does.

At a glance

  • Count backwards from when your child can actually concentrate, not from the school bell
  • Two weekday sessions is a realistic ceiling for a Diploma student on a long run
  • A weekend morning carries more of an Al Maqam plan than of a central one
  • Higher Level sciences and less common languages are thin across the whole city
  • A visiting tutor's own journey pushes a southern weekday slot later still
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Each stage of the IB continuum makes different demands on the week, and the school-day constraint bites in a different place in each. These are the parts of the programme an Al Maqam family is most often inside.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

Six subjects, three at Higher Level, plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service. The workload is the defining feature rather than the difficulty of any single part, and the externally marked papers and internally assessed components run on separate clocks. A tutoring plan that ignores the student's total weekly load will be abandoned by February whatever its subject merits.

For an Al Maqam Diploma family the binding constraint is the number of usable evenings, so each session has to be aimed precisely from marked work rather than spent on general review. Two well-aimed hours a week beat four vague ones, and they are also the only two that will actually happen. Al Ain's smaller private-school set makes Higher Level science specialists scarce locally, which is a second reason to fix the subject match first and negotiate the time second.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria marked out of eight, with an ePortfolio and the Personal Project in the final year. Parents see criterion levels rather than percentages and often cannot judge whether a 5 is comfortable or fragile. The translation work is the tutoring: which criterion is losing marks, and what a level 7 response looks like in that subject.

The Middle Years is when an Al Maqam family still has room in the week, and that makes it the cheapest stage at which to fix anything. A fortnightly session in Years 9 and 10 fits comfortably around a southern Al Ain school run, which a twice-weekly Diploma plan does not. Families who use that window rarely need a rescue in Year 13, when there are no spare evenings left to put one in.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1-Year 6

Primary Years Programme

Transdisciplinary units of inquiry with the Exhibition in the final year and no external assessment. Useful support at this stage is narrow and mechanical rather than broad: number fluency, reading stamina, written structure. Short sessions work better than long ones, and two half-hours a week outperform one ninety-minute block for most primary-age children.

Primary families in Al Maqam have the easiest scheduling of anyone on this page and should use it. Early-afternoon sessions are genuinely available before the senior school run begins, and those slots disappear permanently once a child moves to a school on the far side of the city. The summer before Year 7 is the single best-placed block in a primary child's schedule.

CoreDiploma year one into year two

Internal Assessment, Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge

The coursework strand runs on school-set internal deadlines and needs concentrated attention rather than weekly attention. Each piece is marked against published criteria and the decisive moment is early: a methodology or research question that cannot support the required analysis caps the mark before any writing happens. Support is reading, questioning and feedback on the student's own drafts.

Because coursework hours are concentrated rather than spread, they fit an Al Maqam week far better than families expect. Four to six sessions clustered around the school's internal deadlines, mostly on methodology, can sit on weekend mornings and leave the weekday evenings for subject teaching. Ask the Diploma coordinator for the internal deadline list in September and place those blocks deliberately.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Where the hour goes differs by subject, and for an Al Maqam family with two usable evenings the choice of which subject gets one of them is the whole decision. These are the subjects we are asked for, with what the session has to do.

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches

HL and SL

Proof, calculus and the Higher Level Paper 3 extended-response problems. Marks go on method lines skipped under time pressure and on calculus notation. The most requested single subject from this area and the one where a general tutor is most visibly not enough.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Statistics, modelling and mandatory graphical calculator technique. Failures tend to be procedural rather than conceptual, which makes it a good candidate for a short block rather than a standing weekly slot in a crowded week.

Chemistry

HL and SL

Energetics, organic mechanisms and the data-based paper. Organic content lands late in the course, so a student can look secure in October and meet the hardest material with no runway. Among the scarcest Higher Level subjects in the Al Ain pool.

Physics

HL and SL

Mechanics and fields, with Higher Level extension topics late in year two. A large share of lost marks are unit handling, significant figures and uncertainty treatment, which a specialist fixes in a handful of sessions. Good value for a family with few available evenings.

Biology

HL and SL

Content heavy and command-term sensitive. 'Outline', 'explain' and 'discuss' carry different mark allocations, and students who revise content without revising command terms stall. Well supplied online, so the slot can usually be chosen to suit the commute.

Economics

HL and SL

Diagram accuracy, real-world evidence and three commentaries forming the Internal Assessment on school-set dates. Higher Level adds quantitative questions rewarding technique over reading. Responds quickly to a few sessions on diagram labelling and evaluation structure.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

Guided textual analysis, the comparative essay and the Individual Oral, which the school schedules earlier than most parents expect. The Oral is coached rather than taught, and it works particularly well in a video session because the component is entirely talk.

Business Management

HL and SL

Frameworks applied to a real organisation plus a Higher Level research project with its own timeline. Students describe companies where the mark scheme wants application, and the correction is structural so it transfers across the whole paper.

Spanish B and French B

HL and SL

Timed productive skills and a scheduled individual oral. These are the less commonly taught languages in Al Ain's school set, so in-home availability from a southern address is close to non-existent and online is usually the only route to a subject-trained teacher.

Theory of Knowledge

Core

A prescribed-title essay with a firm internal deadline and an exhibition earlier in the course. Both reward argument structure rather than content, so a small number of concentrated hours changes the grade and further hours add very little.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three shapes of week, each designed around a different amount of available evening. Choose by capacity first and subject second, because a plan the week cannot hold will not survive the spring.

One weekday evening, every week

A single fixed session, late enough to clear the southern school run, held in the same slot all term so it becomes part of the week rather than a negotiation. This is the right default for a Diploma student at a central school, and it only works if the subject is chosen deliberately.

  • Fixed at six or later in Gulf Standard Time, same day every week
  • One subject only, chosen from marked work rather than from report grades
  • Short practice task between sessions, sized for a tired evening
  • Written note after each session so nothing depends on memory

Weekend morning plus one evening

The shape that works best from Al Maqam in an exam year. The weekend morning takes the long work, timed papers and anything needing a fresh head; the weekday evening takes review and marking. It gets two real sessions out of a week that only has room for one good one.

  • Weekend morning for full timed papers and coursework methodology
  • Weekday evening for marking and targeted correction
  • Protects the student from doing hard new work at nine at night
  • Scales to two subjects without adding a third evening

Concentrated holiday block

Six to twelve sessions compressed into a school break, when the commute disappears entirely and a student can work in the morning. The cheapest way for a southern Al Ain family to buy a meaningful number of hours, and the most underused option in this market.

  • Morning sessions, which are not available during term from this area
  • Content repair rather than exam technique, because there is time to consolidate
  • The summer between Diploma years is the largest such block available
  • Defined start and end, so the cost is a single known figure

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Maqam

01

When the school day actually ends for an Al Maqam student

The useful number is not the final bell, it is the moment a student is home, fed and able to hold an argument about calculus. For many Al Maqam families that is somewhere between half past five and half past six on a weekday, and nothing in a tutoring plan should be scheduled before it. The table below works through the stages, which is a calculation no competitor page in this market performs.

Two of the stages are invisible in a timetable and dominate the result. After-school commitments, including the Creativity, Activity, Service element that every Diploma student carries, routinely add an hour. And the journey from the central or northern clusters to a southern compound is not a fixed figure; it stretches at the end of the working day in a way that a morning run does not.

The practical consequence is that an Al Maqam family planning around a four o'clock session is planning around a slot that does not exist, and a family planning around seven is planning around a slot that exists but produces poor work. The honest window is narrow, and it is better to use one hour well inside it than to pretend there are three.

This is also why weekend mornings matter more here than they do in the central districts. A Saturday morning session from Al Maqam is the same hour a central family can get on a Tuesday afternoon: fresh, unhurried and long enough for a full timed paper. Treating the weekend as the main slot rather than the overflow is the single most useful scheduling change available to this area.

02

Building a Diploma week that actually survives

Here is the week most Al Maqam Diploma families should be running, written as a shape rather than a prescription. The organising principle is that hard new work goes where the student is fresh and review goes where they are tired, which in this area means the weekend carries the load and the weekday evening does the follow-up.

The second principle is that practice tasks have to be sized for the evening they will be done in. A tutor who sets a full past paper for a Tuesday night in Al Maqam has set something that will not be done, and the session that follows will be spent discussing why. A single question section, marked, is worth more than a paper attempted at eleven o'clock.

The third is that one of the week's slots should be left empty on purpose. Mock weeks, school trips, illness and travel all happen, and a week with no slack loses sessions permanently rather than moving them. A plan built at ninety per cent capacity delivers more sessions across a year than one built at a hundred.

Note the final column. The point of writing a week down is to be able to see what it cannot hold, which is usually a second subject. Families who want two subjects supported should look at the holiday block option rather than trying to find a third evening that is not there.

Write the week down on paper and show it to the student. Diploma students are better judges of their own capacity than their parents are, and they will tell you which evening is already gone. A plan the student helped build is a plan that survives March, which matters more than any refinement of its contents.

03

Which schools Al Maqam feeds, and what their Diploma students need

Al Maqam students split between the southern school cluster and the central one, and the split matters because it determines the journey. For families at a southern school the run is manageable and a six o'clock start is comfortable. For those travelling to the central cluster it is not, and that group should plan around a weekend-led week from the outset.

Al Ain's private-school set is considerably smaller than Abu Dhabi island's, and that shows up in subject offerings as much as in numbers. Higher Level science groups are smaller, which means less in-school support when a student struggles, and the less commonly taught languages may not be offered at all or may run with a single teacher. Those are the gaps that bring families to this page.

Before relying on anything about a school, read ADEK's own listing. It records what each school is licensed to deliver and the outcome of its inspections, and it is the authority rather than a school's own prospectus. If you are choosing a school as well as a tutor, start the comparison there; if you are already enrolled, it is still the right place to check what the Diploma offering actually includes.

One thing not to do is treat a school's published results as a guide to whether your child needs support. A strong cohort average tells you nothing about an individual student's Paper 2 technique, and a weaker one tells you nothing either. The useful document is your child's own marked work, which is why we ask for it before matching anyone.

04

Online one-to-one against a visiting tutor in southern Al Ain

The search phrase says home tutor, so here is the comparison made properly, built around the thing this page is about: whether the session happens at the hour it was meant to. Cost is in the table, but it is not the decisive row for a family in Al Maqam.

The decisive row is the tutor's own journey. A visiting tutor arrives after finishing a previous household and crossing the city, which on a southern round trip costs them something like forty unbilled minutes. That is why the UAE in-home band runs AED 180 to AED 500 an hour against AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified online tutor: the driving is real and someone pays for it. It also means the arrangement is pinned to a route, so the slot is theirs rather than yours.

The second decisive row is what happens to a plan over thirty weeks. An arrangement that loses a session a month to a long drive, a late finish or a route change delivers around thirty sessions in a school year where a reliable one delivers forty. Ten sessions is an entire technique block, which is worth more than any improvement in the room.

The third is match. With Higher Level sciences and the less common languages thin across the whole city, a visiting arrangement from Al Maqam usually means accepting the available person rather than the right one. IB Gram does not provide home visits anywhere in the UAE, so on the in-home axis we are not an option at all, and the table says so.

Ramadan, shortened days and the slot that appears

  • Shortened Ramadan school days can create afternoon slots a long commute normally eats
  • Agree post-iftar or afternoon timing a fortnight ahead rather than on the day
  • Holiday blocks give an Al Maqam family morning sessions, unavailable in term
  • The summer between Diploma years is the largest uncommitted block in the course
  • Check internal coursework deadlines against school breaks before the term starts

Ramadan changes the Al Maqam timetable in a way that is, unusually, an improvement. Shortened school days mean students get home earlier, and for a family whose problem is the length of the commute that creates afternoon capacity which does not otherwise exist during term. The month falls at a different point in the academic year each time, so check it against the plan rather than assuming.

The right adjustment is to move sessions, not to pause them. Post-iftar slots suit many households, and an earlier afternoon slot suits others; what fails is treating the month as ordinary and then losing four sessions in a row to fatigue and last-minute cancellation. Agree the Ramadan shape with the tutor a fortnight ahead, not on the first day.

The same logic applies to every other break in the UAE academic year. Mid-year holidays and the long summer remove the commute entirely and make morning sessions available, which is the one thing an Al Maqam family cannot buy during term. A concentrated block in those windows is the cheapest way for this area to accumulate hours.

One warning about breaks. Internal coursework deadlines sometimes fall close to a holiday, which means a student loses either the break or the marks. Ask the Diploma coordinator for the internal deadline list in September, mark the school breaks on the same calendar and look for collisions. A collision spotted in September is a scheduling note; the same collision found in February is a ruined week.

06

ADEK, and who is allowed to teach your child privately

Al Maqam is in Al Ain, part of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, so the regulator is ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. ADEK is named by none of the competitor pages reviewed for this project, which is itself worth noticing when judging how locally informed a tutoring site is.

The rule with the most direct effect on an Al Maqam family is about their child's own teachers. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE private tuition work permit carries a code of conduct barring the same thing. A tutor who pitches on the basis of teaching at your child's school is offering an arrangement to decline.

Separately, private tutoring in the UAE runs on a permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years, with eligible categories including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Applications go through MoHRE's private tutor licensing service with a stated two-working-day completion time.

Those offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule is published, so any amount quoted to you is unverified. For completeness: IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB or Cambridge International, and a tutoring operation with premises in Dubai would need a KHDA Educational Services Permit, which is a different thing entirely.

07

Coursework support that fits an Al Maqam week

Coursework is the part of the Diploma that suits this area's constraints best, because the hours are concentrated rather than weekly and can sit on a weekend morning. The Internal Assessment, Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge essay are marked against published criteria, and the decisive work happens early, before any writing.

What a tutor may legitimately do is substantial and worth paying for. They can explain what each criterion rewards, question whether a chosen method can support the analysis the criteria demand, point out where a conclusion does not follow from the data, identify missing evaluation, teach citation properly and mark the student's own draft against the criteria. Most of that belongs in the first weeks of the cycle.

What a tutor may not do is write any part of the submission, rewrite rather than comment, or supply a research question or dataset as finished work. The research behind this page found an operation selling completed Internal Assessments to UAE students at around AED 3,750; submitting one risks the whole Diploma under the IB's academic-honesty rules, which makes it the worst available use of any tutoring budget.

The scheduling advice follows from the honesty position. Front-load the hours onto methodology in the first fortnight of the cycle, where four sessions outperform twenty at the end, and the late-night panic conversation never arrives. For an Al Maqam family that also means the coursework block uses weekend mornings and leaves weekday evenings intact for subject teaching.

08

What we can and cannot cover from this area

  • Well supplied: Mathematics, Biology, Economics, Business Management, English
  • Tighter: Chemistry HL and Physics HL, best booked in the autumn of Year 13
  • Thin: Spanish B and French B, frequently declined with a referral suggestion
  • The six to eight weekday band fills first; weekend mornings widen the choice
  • No in-home coverage anywhere in the UAE, in any subject

Availability transparency is absent from every competitor page reviewed for this project, so here is ours, stated as a constraint rather than a feature. Mathematics, Biology, Economics, Business Management and English are well supplied and can usually be matched inside a week in any slot. Chemistry Higher Level and Physics Higher Level are tighter. Spanish B and French B are thin, and often declined.

The second constraint is the slot itself. The six to eight o'clock weekday band is the narrowest part of the week and it is narrow for every family in Al Ain, so it fills first. An Al Maqam family willing to use a weekend morning or an earlier Friday slot gets a materially wider choice of tutor, and in the scarce subjects that choice is the difference between a specialist and a wait.

When we cannot cover a request we give a date or decline. We do not fill a Chemistry Higher Level request with a general science tutor or a language request with a fluent speaker who has not taught the course. That substitution survives about a month and then costs a term, and it is the most common concealed failure in this market.

Ask the same of anyone you are considering. Can you cover this subject, at this level, in this slot, starting when, and what happens if the first tutor is not right. Specific answers make a provider comparable. In a city with a school set this size, an unqualified yes to every question is not an answer.

Where we tutor

Al Maqam and the areas it is compared with

Grouped here by what the school run leaves of the evening, because for a southern Al Ain family that is the variable that decides what a tutoring week can hold.

Zakher

Further south again, towards the Omani border, with the longest journeys in the city. Weekday sessions here realistically start after seven and weekend mornings carry much of an exam-year plan.

Al Yahar

Outlying and agricultural in character, some distance from the main school cluster. In-home quotes to Al Yahar families sit at the top of the UAE band purely because of the drive.

Al Khabisi

Central, with short runs to the main cluster. The useful comparison: the same rates and the same tutor pool, but three comfortable weekday slots instead of two.

Al Mutaredh

Adjacent to the central schools, shortest journeys in the city. A student here can use a four o'clock slot that an Al Maqam student the same age cannot.

Al Jimi

Dense and long-established near the souk and hospital, with moderate runs. Household shift patterns here push the useful slots later in the evening for different reasons.

Hili

North of the centre towards the Oman road. The mirror image of Al Maqam: a long run from the other direction, with the same consequence for the weekday timetable.

Al Towayya

Villa housing with a strong Diploma cohort and heavy demand for Higher Level sciences, which is the city's thinnest supply and therefore the earliest to book out.

Falaj Hazza

Established and central with short journeys and dependable mid-afternoon availability, which is the control case for judging how much of Al Maqam's constraint is distance.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us when the student is actually free

Not the school's finish time but the hour at which they are home, fed and able to concentrate, and which days carry an after-school commitment. For an Al Maqam family that usually produces one weekday evening and a weekend morning, and knowing it up front means we only propose tutors who hold those slots every week.

  2. 02

Send a marked paper with the subject

A marked paper shows which questions were attempted and which were blank, and those point to different problems with different durations. With one usable evening a week, choosing the right subject matters more here than almost anywhere, and that choice should come from evidence rather than from a report grade.

  3. 03

Free trial in the real slot

A full session, no card required, held at the time the actual lessons would run. That matters: a trial at four on a Saturday tells you nothing about whether your child can work at half past six on a Wednesday. The output is a named weakness, an hour estimate and a week shape you can keep.

  4. 04

Build the week with slack in it

One protected slot, one working slot and one left deliberately clear so clashes move sessions rather than deleting them. Practice tasks are sized for a tired evening after a long run, which is why they are single question sections rather than full papers.

  5. 05

Use the holidays for the volume

Concentrated morning blocks in school breaks are the only way an Al Maqam family can buy a meaningful number of hours, and the summer between Diploma years is the largest. We plan those deliberately rather than treating term time as the only place tutoring happens.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Scheduling treated as part of the match

A tutor is proposed only if they hold your child's realistic slot every week, because a specialist available at a time your child cannot use is not available. For a southern Al Ain address that filter removes most of the field before anything else is discussed.

Sessions that move instead of disappearing

Mock weeks, travel, illness and Ramadan timings all require movement, and an online slot moves in a message. Over a school year that is the difference between about forty sessions delivered and about thirty, which is a whole technique block.

Weekend mornings treated as the main slot

For Al Maqam the weekend morning is the equivalent of a central family's weekday afternoon: fresh, unhurried and long enough for a full timed paper. We plan around it rather than offering it as overflow.

Honest about what we are not

No home visits anywhere in the UAE, because that service exists only in India. On the in-home axis we are the wrong choice and we say so at the top of the page rather than after a deposit has been taken.

Subject scarcity named, not concealed

Higher Level sciences and the less common languages are thin across Al Ain because the private-school set is small. We say which requests need booking in the autumn, and we give a date or decline rather than substituting a generalist.

No claimed approvals or invented figures

No accreditation or partnership claimed from ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, the IB or Cambridge, no self-generated ratings, no guaranteed grades, and no statistic without a named source and a date.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Maqam: your questions answered

What time can a tutoring session realistically start in Al Maqam on a weekday?+

Around six for most Diploma students, and later for those travelling from the central cluster. Work it through rather than guessing: the school day ends, an after-school or CAS commitment can add an hour, the journey to a southern compound stretches at the end of the working day, and then there is eating and settling. Anything scheduled before that window produces a session nobody gets value from. The honest conclusion is one good weekday hour rather than two mediocre ones, with a weekend morning carrying the heavier work.

How many sessions a week can a Diploma student in Al Maqam actually sustain?+

Two, in most cases, and one of those is better placed at the weekend. A Higher Level student with six subjects, Theory of Knowledge, an Extended Essay and a CAS commitment has limited evening capacity, and a southern commute removes the earliest usable hour. Plans built for three weekday sessions tend to deliver two and then collapse in February. Building for two, with a third evening left deliberately clear to absorb clashes, delivers more sessions across the year than building for three.

Why does a weekend morning work better than a weekday evening here?+

Because it is the only fresh, unhurried block an Al Maqam family has during term. A Saturday morning session is the equivalent of the Tuesday afternoon a family next to the school can use: long enough for a full timed paper, early enough that the student is not already tired, and unaffected by the journey that defines their weekdays. The sensible shape is the weekend morning for hard new work and timed papers, and a weekday evening afterwards for marking and correction.

Does IB Gram send a tutor to a villa in Al Maqam?+

No. IB Gram provides no home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-person home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Al Maqam students are taught one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. We state that before any booking because the phrase families search is 'home tutor' and nobody should find out the format afterwards. If an adult physically present is a requirement, hire locally, ask about the MoHRE permit category and book the latest slot the tutor has rather than the earliest.

Which subject should get our one weekday slot?+

The one where a marked paper shows a specific, diagnosable loss, not the one with the lowest overall grade. A student at 4 in Chemistry Higher Level losing most of those marks on the data-based paper has a narrow problem a specialist can address in a few sessions. A student at 5 across four subjects usually has a study-habit problem, which is a different and cheaper purchase. Send the marked paper first; with only one usable evening a week, choosing the wrong subject costs a term and not just an hour.

How does a visiting tutor's own journey affect our session time?+

It pushes it later and makes it fragile. A tutor reaching a southern Al Ain compound arrives after finishing a previous household and crossing the city, losing something like forty unbilled minutes on the round trip. That is part of why the UAE in-home band runs AED 180 to AED 500 an hour against AED 150 to AED 300 online. It also means the slot belongs to the route rather than to your evening, so a change at the other end of the city becomes your problem.

Can we use the school holidays to catch up instead of term time?+

It is the best option available to this area and the most underused. During a break the commute disappears, which makes morning sessions possible for the first time, and morning work is categorically better than evening work for content repair. A block of six to twelve sessions across a holiday buys more real learning than the same hours spread thinly through a term. The summer between Diploma years is the largest such window, with no competing coursework deadlines, and families who use it rarely need a spring rescue.

How should we handle sessions during Ramadan in Al Ain?+

Move them rather than pausing them, and agree the shape a fortnight ahead. Shortened school days often create afternoon capacity that a long Al Maqam commute normally consumes, so for some families the month is actually easier to schedule than an ordinary term. Post-iftar slots work well for others. Ramadan falls at a different point in the academic year each time, so check it against the plan before the term begins. What fails is treating the month as ordinary and then losing four consecutive sessions to fatigue and cancellation.

Why do you ask for a marked paper before matching a tutor?+

Because a report grade says where a student is and a marked paper says why. We sort losses into four kinds: blank questions, method errors, timing failures and mark-scheme phrasing. Blanks mean content, which takes a term. Method errors and phrasing mean technique, which takes hours. Those have different durations, different costs and in some cases different tutors, and the distinction cannot be made from a grade. With one usable weekday evening, starting from evidence is worth more here than anywhere.

Can a tutor at my child's own Al Ain school teach them privately?+

Not for payment. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE private tuition work permit carries a code of conduct barring the same thing. Teachers who tutor outside school hours must hold that permit. If a tutor's pitch rests on teaching at your child's school, that is a reason to decline rather than a credential, and the current wording should be checked against ADEK's own published policy document.

Is Physics HL harder to find a tutor for in southern Al Ain?+

Harder to find anywhere in Al Ain, and the southern address compounds it. The city's private-school set is considerably smaller than Abu Dhabi island's, so the number of teachers who have taken Higher Level Physics cohorts through to examination is modest. Add a long drive and a narrow six-to-eight evening band and in-home options thin out almost entirely. Book Higher Level sciences in the autumn term of Year 13 at the latest, and if you can use a weekend morning the choice of specialist widens considerably.

What practice should a tutor set for a weeknight after a long commute?+

One question section, marked and brought to the next session. Not a full past paper. A tutor who sets a two-hour paper for a Tuesday evening in Al Maqam has set something that will not be done, and the following session gets spent discussing why rather than on the subject. The working loop matters more than the volume: a single section attempted properly, marked honestly and corrected in the next hour moves a grade. Full papers belong on the weekend morning, where there is time and a fresh head.

How do coursework hours fit a week with no spare evenings?+

Better than subject teaching does, because coursework hours are concentrated rather than weekly. Four to six sessions clustered around the school's internal deadlines, mostly on methodology before any writing starts, can sit entirely on weekend mornings and leave weekday evenings for subject work. Ask the Diploma coordinator for the internal deadline list in September and place the blocks deliberately. Front-loading matters: four sessions in the first fortnight of a cycle outperform twenty at the end, and they remove the late-night panic entirely.

What happens if the slot we need is already taken?+

We tell you, and we give a date rather than filling it with someone unsuitable. The six to eight o'clock weekday band is the narrowest part of the week across the whole of Al Ain, so it books out first, and in scarce subjects such as Higher Level Chemistry or a second language the wait can run to a fortnight or more. Families able to use a weekend morning or an earlier Friday slot see a materially wider choice of tutor immediately. What we will not do is substitute across specifications to keep a booking alive.

Send us the hour your child is actually free

Hiring an IB home tutor in Al Maqam works when the plan is built from the real timetable rather than an idealised one. Tell us what time your child gets home, which days carry an after-school commitment, and which subject a marked paper says is losing the marks. We will propose a tutor who holds that slot every week, usually a weekend morning for the heavy work and one weekday evening for marking, and leave a third evening clear so clashes move sessions instead of deleting them. The free trial runs at the real time, with no card required. Lessons are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
