IGCSE Home Tutor in Hili

Families searching for an IGCSE home tutor in Hili often also search the next neighbourhood over, on the reasonable assumption that a different area means a different answer. It mostly does not. This page compares Hili with Al Jimi, Al Mutaredh and Zakher on the things that actually vary, then compares provider models, exam boards and tutor permit categories side by side. IB Gram teaches Hili students one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.

  • Provider models compared by type, with AED rates attributed to who published them
  • Lessons are live one-to-one video; IB Gram runs no home visits in the UAE
  • ADEK regulates Al Ain's private schools; KHDA and SPEA govern other emirates
  • Every rate on this page is a market band from a named source, not our price list

IB & IGCSE in Hili

Hili, or the next neighbourhood over: what actually changes

A parent in Hili comparing tutoring options against Al Jimi or Al Mutaredh is really asking two questions at once. Does a different address give me access to different tutors, and does it give me a different price. In Al Ain the answers are, in order, barely and no. The city is compact enough that the drivable tutor pool from one central neighbourhood looks much like the pool from the next, and the published market rates do not vary by district at all.

What does change between Hili and the areas around it is the evening. Hili sits north of the centre near the archaeological park and the Oman road, and many of its students attend schools in the central and southern clusters, which makes the journey home long enough to rule out a four o'clock weekday session for a good number of them. A family in Al Mutaredh, next to the central school cluster, keeps that slot. Over a term that is one extra session a week, which is a real difference and the only geographic one worth planning around.

The thing that genuinely varies between two students in the same street is the specification. 'IGCSE' covers two different qualifications: Cambridge International, with four-digit codes such as 0580 Mathematics, 0625 Physics and 0620 Chemistry, and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, with codes such as 4MA1, 4PH1 and 4CH1. The content overlaps; the paper structures, the tiering and the practical arrangements do not. Two neighbours at different schools can need genuinely different tutors, and no amount of local searching reveals that.

Hili is in Al Ain, part of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, so the regulator is ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. That is worth knowing because the regulator differs across the country in ways that affect what a school must deliver, and because ADEK is named by none of the competitor pages reviewed for this project. A comparison table of the five UAE regulators appears further down.

IB Gram's position is the same in every neighbourhood, which is the honest version of this page's argument. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visiting is a service we run only in India. Hili students are matched on syllabus code and tier and taught one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. That makes the neighbourhood question almost irrelevant and the specification question decisive, which is the right way round.

The rest of this page is built as comparisons rather than claims: four neighbourhoods side by side, six provider models with their published rates, the separate and co-ordinated science routes, the tutor permit categories, the two board calendars and the five UAE regulators. All of it works on a tutor a Hili family finds without us, which is the point of publishing it.

At a glance

  • Published AED rates in the UAE do not vary by Al Ain neighbourhood
  • What varies is the earliest usable weekday slot, which the school run sets
  • Cambridge 0580 and Pearson 4MA1 are different courses with different paper structures
  • Al Ain's smaller school set makes Additional Maths, Computer Science and second languages scarce citywide
  • Five different bodies regulate private schools across the UAE; Al Ain answers to ADEK
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Three qualification routes run through Al Ain's British-curriculum schools and they are easiest to understand side by side. The differences below are the ones that change which tutor a Hili student needs.

CAIEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Four-digit syllabus codes, with many subjects tiered into Core and Extended and a grade ceiling applying to Core. Sciences carry a separate practical component, either a laboratory test paper or an alternative-to-practical written paper, and schools choose which route to enter. Cambridge runs the qualification in a June series and a November series, with Checkpoint tests at Lower Secondary in March, May and October.

The administrative detail that catches Al Ain families is zoning. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong timetable was used. Ask the exams officer which zone your school sits in and work from that version only.

PearsonAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

Codes run 4MA1, 4PH1, 4CH1, 4BI1 and 4EA1. Mathematics A tiers into Foundation and Higher; the international sciences are untiered and assess practical skills inside the written papers rather than in a separate practical exam. Some subjects are offered modularly, which changes when a result can be banked and when a resit is available.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026; June 2026 results reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students on 20 August 2026; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and revises them, so plan from the live official timetable.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

AS and A Level progression

The IGCSE tier and grade determine which AS subjects stay open. Extended tier Mathematics at a strong grade is the normal expectation for AS Mathematics, and Core tier generally closes it along with the separate sciences. The decision is taken in Year 10 and discovered in Year 12, which is why it deserves a conversation long before anyone thinks of it as urgent.

For UAE university entry the Ministry of Education equivalency rule on the British track asks for five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five. No tutoring provider performs or guarantees equivalency; the family applies through the official channel.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Subject by subject, the comparison that matters is between the two boards rather than between two neighbourhoods. Each entry names the codes and the component where marks actually go.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended; Pearson 4MA1 Foundation and Higher

Tier names and grade ceilings differ between the boards, and so do the paper numbers. Marks are lost on omitted method lines in multi-step questions. Ask any tutor which paper numbers your child sits; an answer without hesitation is the fastest competence check available.

Additional Mathematics

Cambridge 0606

Calculus and series sitting outside the 0580 specification entirely, so a 0580 specialist is not a substitute. Taught by few Al Ain schools, which makes it the clearest case where the local pool is thin in every neighbourhood equally, Hili and Al Mutaredh alike.

Physics

Cambridge 0625; Pearson 4PH1

The practical arrangement is the real difference. Cambridge students sit a practical test or an alternative-to-practical paper; Pearson examines practical skills within the written papers. Revising for the wrong structure costs marks that have nothing to do with physics.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620; Pearson 4CH1

Moles arithmetic and qualitative analysis, examined differently by each board. Most lost marks are unit handling and calculation rather than chemistry, which makes the fix narrow and quick once a marked paper has shown which calculation types are failing.

Biology

Cambridge 0610; Pearson 4BI1

Command-term discipline decides the grade, and the two boards allocate marks differently for the same wording. Well supplied online, so a Hili family has no reason to accept either a long wait or a premium rate in this subject.

Co-ordinated and Combined Science

Cambridge 0654 and 0653

Double or single award with a different content map from the separate sciences. Families often assume a separate-science tutor covers it; the specification differs, and hours spent on content that is not examined are hours lost whichever area you live in.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 first language, 0510/0511 second language; Pearson 4EA1

First and second language are separate specifications rewarding different things. The commonest misdiagnosis in Al Ain is a first-language candidate placed with a second-language tutor or the reverse; check the code before buying anything.

Economics and Business

Cambridge 0455 and 0450; Pearson 4EC1 and 4BS1

Diagram accuracy, definition precision and applied data response. Students describe where the mark scheme asks them to analyse, and the correction is structural so it transfers across the paper. Usually a short block rather than a term.

Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge 0478 and 0417

Pseudocode and trace tables, plus a practical component for ICT on specified software tasks. Genuinely scarce in Al Ain, and a subject where a capable programmer who has not taught the specification will teach the wrong material competently.

Geography and History

Cambridge 0460 and 0470

Source skills, case-study recall and extended-answer structure. The marks sit in organisation rather than volume of content, which is why these respond quickly to a handful of focused sessions on source and essay technique.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats compared on what each actually delivers rather than on price per hour. The right one depends on what you already know about the problem.

One-to-one, matched on the code

A weekly live session with a tutor who has taught your child's exact specification and tier, working from the school's own papers. Costs more per hour than a group and less per grade, because every minute addresses your child's component rather than someone else's. This is the format we run.

  • Matched to Cambridge 0580 Extended or Pearson 4MA1 Higher as applicable
  • Works from the school's marked papers and mark schemes
  • Written note after each session naming the practice task
  • Slot moves in a message when a mock week or travel intervenes

Small group of two to four

Cheaper per hour and good value only when every student has the same gap. A group revising a whole syllabus broadly works; a group containing one student who only needs Paper 4 extended response does not, because most of the hour is spent elsewhere. Worth comparing honestly rather than dismissing.

  • Lower cost per hour, higher cost per grade for a specific weakness
  • Best where the whole group shares a topic rather than a subject
  • Ask what the group's actual starting point is before joining
  • Not a format we provide, but a legitimate choice for a broad revision need

Short diagnostic and technique block

Four to ten sessions on one named component, ending when it is fixed. The cheapest intervention that reliably moves an IGCSE grade and the one families find last. It needs a marked paper to start from, which is what the free trial session is for.

  • Defined start and end, so the total cost is a known figure
  • Built from a marked paper, not from a description of the problem
  • Timed questions completed and marked between sessions
  • Repeatable per component rather than renewed indefinitely

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Hili

01

Hili against the next neighbourhood over, row by row

Here is the comparison in full. The columns are the things a family can actually feel: how long the school run is, when a weekday session can realistically start, how deep the drivable tutor pool is, and what the market charges. Three of those four are identical across the city, which is the finding of the table rather than a disappointment in it.

The only column that moves is the earliest usable slot, and it moves because of distance to the school cluster rather than anything about the neighbourhood itself. A Hili student finishing at a southern school and arriving home at twenty past four cannot start at four. A student in Al Mutaredh walking home in ten minutes can. Over a thirty-week term that is around thirty sessions against twenty.

The drivable pool column deserves a word, because families assume it varies and it does not, much. Al Ain's private-school set is considerably smaller than Abu Dhabi island's, so the whole city's teaching population is modest and the scarce subjects are scarce everywhere in it. Moving from Hili to Al Jimi does not find you an Additional Mathematics 0606 teacher who was not there before.

Which leads to the point of the exercise. If three of four columns are identical and the fourth is a commute, then the decision a family is actually making is not where they live but what they match on. Matching on who can drive to Hili narrows the field for no gain; matching on who has taught the specification widens it for no extra cost.

02

Why the answer comes out the same in every one of them

Two structural facts make the neighbourhood question less important than it looks. The first is that published tutoring rates in the UAE are set by provider type, not by district. The bands quoted across this market, from AED 33 to AED 65 at the budget end up to AED 500 or more for a named premium tutor, are the same bands whether a family is in Hili, Al Jimi or Zakher. Nobody discounts for a short drive.

The second is that subject scarcity is a citywide property. Al Ain has a much smaller private-school set than Abu Dhabi island, so the number of people who have taught Cambridge 0606 or 0478 to examination standard is small for the whole city. A family in a more central neighbourhood has a marginally shorter list of willing drivers, not a different list of qualified teachers.

What follows is that the useful lever is not location but specification. Establish the board, the code and the tier, then look for someone who has taught exactly that. Done that way, a Hili family and an Al Mutaredh family arrive at the same shortlist, and the only remaining difference is what time the session starts.

The honest caveat is that location does matter for one thing: whether an in-home arrangement is practical at all. In Zakher or Al Maqam it frequently is not, in Al Mutaredh it usually is, and Hili sits between. That is a real difference, and it is a difference about logistics rather than about teaching quality or price.

03

Provider models compared, with rates attributed

Comparing brands is not useful and, where it involves claims about a competitor's quality, not fair. Comparing models is useful, because the model determines what you get for the money and almost every page in this market compares itself only to an unnamed alternative. The table below compares provider types, with rate bands attributed to whoever published them in October 2026.

Three findings from the research behind this page are worth stating alongside it. Three of the six best-ranking pages for UAE tutoring queries publish no price at all. The two that do quote US dollars rather than dirhams. And one publishes a schema price range that contradicts the figure visible on its own page. A family comparing options is therefore working with less published information than it should be.

The rows that matter most to a Hili family are replacement policy and permit verification, neither of which appears on competitor pages. Replacement policy is what happens when a match does not work: whether you get a new tutor, a refund or a conversation about persevering. Permit status is whether the person teaching your child is legally allowed to, which is checkable and free to confirm.

Read the AED column as a market band, not as an IB Gram price. We quote per plan after a free trial lesson and we do not publish a rate card, partly because the figure depends on the subject's scarcity and the plan's length, and partly because a rate card next to competitor bands invites the comparison this table is trying to replace.

Separate sciences or co-ordinated: comparing the two routes

This is the comparison that actually changes a tutoring decision in Year 10, and it is one no competitor page in this cluster addresses. A student takes either the three separate sciences, each with its own syllabus code, or a combined or co-ordinated award covering all three in compressed form. The content maps differ, and so does what the next stage expects.

The practical risk is a mismatch of tutor to route. A Physics 0625 specialist asked to support a co-ordinated science candidate will teach excellent physics, some of which is not on that student's specification, and will not necessarily know what the co-ordinated papers ask. Families book on the subject name and discover the gap in the spring.

The progression consequence matters more in Al Ain than families expect. Where a school's sixth form expects separate sciences for AS entry, a co-ordinated award can close a route, and the smaller school set here means fewer alternative places to go. That is a conversation to have with the school in Year 9, not Year 11.

Compare the two on the table's final column in particular. The hours required are not proportional to the content, because the co-ordinated route's difficulty is breadth under time pressure rather than depth, and the technique that fixes it is different.

One last comparison inside the comparison. A student moving from co-ordinated to separate sciences mid-course is taking on content nobody has taught them, and that is a two-term project rather than a block. A student staying put and working on pace and breadth is usually a short block. Decide which problem you have before buying hours against either.

05

Which tutors may legally teach, compared by category

Only one competitor page in the entire research set touches tutor licensing, in a single subheading, and it ranks partly on that alone. The position is checkable and worth comparing properly, because the categories differ and a parent can verify which applies.

Private tutoring in the UAE is regulated by permit. The MoHRE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is granted free of charge for two years. Eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students. The route is MoHRE's 'Issuance of a New Work Permit - Private Tutor Licensing' service, with a stated two-working-day completion time.

Two comparisons matter for a Hili family. A teacher at your child's own school is in a category of their own: ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. And a tutoring operation with premises and staff in Dubai is a different legal animal entirely, needing a KHDA Educational Services Permit for a training institute, with initial approval, a maximum six months to complete the steps and annual renewal.

Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. No fine schedule is published anywhere, so no amount should be quoted to you and any figure circulating online should be treated as unverified. For the avoidance of doubt, IB Gram holds no approval, accreditation, licence or partnership from ADEK, KHDA, SPEA, the Ministry of Education, MoHRE, Cambridge International or Pearson.

Comparing the two exam calendars a Hili student may face

  • Cambridge February/March is India only; UAE sits June and November
  • Pearson International GCSE runs May/June and November
  • A Pearson November entry historically means a January result
  • Use the school's Cambridge administrative zone timetable, not a general one
  • Confirm every date on the board's own live timetable before acting

Boards do not share a calendar, and a student taking subjects with both of them is managing two timetables. The comparison is worth setting out plainly, not least because one widely repeated claim about Cambridge is wrong for this country and acting on it would mean a missed entry.

Cambridge International runs IGCSE, O Level and International A Level in a June series and a November series, with Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests in March, May and October. The February/March series is offered to India only. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and states it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after the wrong zone timetable was used, so the school's zone version is the only one to use.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November each year. The documented pattern is useful for planning a resit: the November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. A November entry therefore means a January result.

The forward rule is to name a series by its month and check the live official timetable, because Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series and revises them. No future date on this page carries a year for that reason, and any page that gives you one should be checked against the board before you plan around it.

07

Who regulates what, across the five UAE authorities

Comparison is the right form for this, and the whole map is absent from the pages currently ranking: ADEK is named by none of the researched competitors and SPEA by one. A Hili family may well have relatives or a previous address in another emirate, and the rules are not the same.

Abu Dhabi, which includes Al Ain and therefore Hili, is governed by ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Dubai is governed by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority, responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education there. Sharjah's Private Education Authority regulates private education in that emirate, and Ras Al Khaimah's Department of Knowledge does the same in its own.

The Ministry of Education plays a pivotal role in supervising private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. One difference is worth noting because it surprises people: Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum approval and not just inspection sits with the emirate regulator there.

Across all of them, the federal baseline is the same: private schools are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. That is the rule behind the mandatory UAE subjects every private school teaches alongside its international curriculum.

For a Hili family the practical use of this table is portability. Families move between emirates for work more often than they change schools, and a plan built on the assumption that KHDA rules apply in Al Ain, or ADEK rules in Sharjah, will be wrong in detail. The subject teaching transfers; the regulatory context does not.

What a tutor may and may not do, compared with what is on sale

This comparison is uncomfortable and necessary. The research behind this page found an operation selling completed Internal Assessments to UAE students at around AED 3,750, and that product is marketed alongside legitimate tutoring in the same search results. A family comparing options should be able to tell the two apart quickly.

Legitimate support, on either side of the IGCSE and Diploma boundary, means teaching a technique, explaining why a mark scheme rewards one phrasing over another, marking the student's own practice work, drilling calculation types and rehearsing oral components. For practical papers it includes apparatus conventions, uncertainty treatment and reading results tables, all of which are examinable skills teachable in the abstract.

What falls outside is producing data, writing up an investigation, supplying answers for submitted work, or preparing material a student presents as their own. We also will not reproduce or supply board syllabus documents, past papers, mark schemes or grade-boundary tables as downloads; the correct move is to cite the official page and link to it.

The comparison test is simple enough to apply in one question. Ask a prospective provider what they will do if a student brings coursework the night before it is due. An answer about reading the draft and marking it against criteria is the right answer. An answer that involves fixing it is a description of a risk the student carries alone.

There is a second line worth comparing, around examiner claims. Tutors should not be described as IB or Cambridge examiners unless current examiner status can be evidenced, and examiner status should never be used to imply access to marking, grade boundaries or paper content. Several pages in this market lean on the word without the evidence, and it is a fair thing to ask about directly.

09

Comparing availability honestly, including ours

  • Scarcity in Al Ain is citywide, not neighbourhood-specific
  • Strong coverage: Maths, separate sciences, English, humanities
  • Limited: Additional Maths 0606, Computer Science 0478, ICT 0417
  • Thin: second modern languages, usually declined with a referral
  • In-home coverage from IB Gram: none anywhere in the UAE

No competitor page reviewed for this project discloses a coverage limit, which makes availability the easiest thing in this market to compare dishonestly. Our position in Hili is the same as in every Al Ain neighbourhood, because the pool is citywide: strong in Mathematics, the separate sciences, English and the humanities; limited in Additional Mathematics 0606, Computer Science 0478 and ICT; thin in second modern languages.

When a request cannot be covered we offer a different slot, a named start date a fortnight or so out, or a straight decline. What we do not do is substitute across specifications, because a general science tutor filling a Chemistry 0620 request looks like a solution for a month and then costs a term. That substitution is the single most common hidden failure in this market.

In-home coverage from IB Gram is zero in every row and every neighbourhood, because home visits are a service we run only in India. Comparing us with a local in-home tutor on that axis is a comparison we lose, and the honest version of the table says so rather than reframing it.

Put the same questions to anyone you are comparing. Can you cover this code and tier, in this slot, starting when. What happens if the first tutor is wrong. Which permit category does the tutor hold. A provider that answers all three with specifics is comparable; one that answers yes to everything in a city this size is not answering.

Where we tutor

Hili compared with the neighbourhoods around it

Here is the comparison the search implies, with the one variable that genuinely differs between these areas: what the school run leaves of the weekday evening.

Al Jimi

Immediately south of Hili and meaningfully closer to the central school cluster, so the four o'clock slot survives for most students. Same rates, same tutor pool, one more usable session a week.

Al Mutaredh

Adjacent to the central schools with the shortest runs in the city. The best-case comparison for Hili: identical pricing and availability, but a wider choice of session times.

Al Muwaiji

Central and residential, minutes from several long-established private schools. Reliable early-evening availability, and the area where families are most likely to know their child's syllabus code.

Al Khabisi

Central, short school runs, two comfortable weekday sessions. Comparing Hili with Al Khabisi isolates the commute variable neatly, because everything else about the two is the same.

Al Towayya

Villa housing with a strong Extended-tier cohort and visible demand for Additional Mathematics 0606, which is scarce citywide rather than scarce in any one area.

Al Maqam

Southern and spread out, with long runs from the northern schools. Weekday sessions realistically start after seven, so weekend slots carry more of the plan than they do in Hili.

Zakher

The southern edge towards the Omani border, with the longest journeys in the city. The clearest case against in-home delivery, and the clearest case that the answer does not depend on the area.

Falaj Hazza

Established and central with short journeys and dependable mid-afternoon slots. Useful as the control case when judging how much of Hili's constraint is distance rather than workload.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Hili

Central and northern Al Ain, serving Hili, Al Jimi and Al Mutaredh

These schools take most of the cohort from the neighbourhoods compared on this page, and between them they use both exam boards. That is why two Hili neighbours can need different tutors. Check ADEK's own listing for each school's current licensed curriculum and latest inspection outcome rather than relying on a school website.

For a Hili student at a southern school the journey is the whole of the local difference. The session that begins when they walk in the door is worth more than one that waits for a tutor to finish crossing the city, and that is true in every neighbourhood on this page.

  • Emirates National School - Al Ain

  • Liwa International School Al Ain

Schools are named purely as context for Al Ain's British-curriculum ecosystem; IB Gram claims no affiliation with, endorsement from or commercial relationship with any of them.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Get the board, code and tier

From the school office or the statement of entry. Cambridge 0620 Extended and Pearson 4CH1 are different requests, and two Hili neighbours at different schools may need different tutors. This single step removes most of the mismatch risk in this market and it costs nothing but a phone call.

  2. 02

Send a marked paper with the request

A marked paper shows which questions were attempted and which were left blank, and the two point to different problems with different durations. Blanks mean content, which takes a term. Method errors and phrasing mean technique, which takes hours. We match from that rather than from a subject label.

  3. 03

Free trial with the proposed tutor

A full session, no card required, with the person who would teach the course. Ask them which paper their students lose most marks on and why. A specialist names a paper and a pattern; a generalist says it varies. You keep the written diagnosis whether or not you continue.

  4. 04

Pick the slot the commute allows

For a Hili family that usually means after five-thirty on weekdays, with a weekend morning carrying part of an exam-year block. Sessions are fixed in Gulf Standard Time and move in a message when a mock week, travel or Ramadan timing requires it rather than being lost.

  5. 05

Review at the agreed session count

Check the plan against the weakness it was bought to fix. Closed means stop or move on; not closed means change the approach or the tutor. Comparing providers on this question alone is informative, because the ones without a review point are the ones whose plans renew by default.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Comparisons by model, not by brand

We compare provider types with rates attributed to whoever published them, and we do not make claims about a competitor's quality or legality. Every AED figure on this page carries a source and the month it was read.

The same answer in every neighbourhood

Rates do not vary by Al Ain district and the scarce subjects are scarce citywide, so we match on syllabus code and tier rather than on a drivable radius. A Hili family and an Al Mutaredh family get the same shortlist and a different start time.

Delivery stated before booking

One-to-one live video on Gulf Standard Time, with no home visits anywhere in the UAE. On the in-home axis we are the wrong choice, and we would rather say that at the top of the page than after a deposit.

Permit questions we invite

Ask which MoHRE permit category a tutor holds and when it was issued. The permit is free and valid two years, so there is no excuse for not holding one, and no basis for charging more because of it.

The regulator map, in full

ADEK for Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, KHDA for Dubai, SPEA for Sharjah, the Department of Knowledge for Ras Al Khaimah, and the Ministry of Education for Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. We hold no approval from any of them and claim none.

A boundary on submitted work

Teaching, questioning and marking the student's own practice, with no writing, no redrafting to completion and no supplied material. We also will not reproduce board papers or mark schemes as downloads, because citing and linking them is the correct route.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Hili: your questions answered

Would we get a better tutor by searching Al Jimi instead of Hili?+

No, and the reason is structural. Al Ain is compact and its private-school set is much smaller than Abu Dhabi island's, so the city has one modest teaching population rather than a different one per district. Published market rates do not vary by neighbourhood either. What changes between Hili and Al Jimi is the school run, which shifts the earliest realistic weekday session by around an hour. That is a genuine difference worth planning around, and it is the only one. Match on the syllabus code instead and both families get the same shortlist.

What actually differs between two IGCSE students living on the same Hili street?+

Usually the exam board. One may sit Cambridge 0625 Physics with a separate practical or alternative-to-practical paper, and the other Pearson 4PH1, which examines practical skills inside the written papers. Same subject, same year group, different specification, different revision plan. Tier differs too: Cambridge splits many subjects into Core and Extended with a grade ceiling on Core, while Pearson Mathematics A splits into Foundation and Higher. Get the board, code and tier from the school before you compare tutors, because those three facts decide the match.

Is an in-home tutor in Hili worth the extra AED per hour?+

It depends on one thing: whether your child works better with an adult in the room. The UAE in-home band is AED 180 to AED 500 an hour with travel included, against AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, and the premium pays for a car and unbilled driving time rather than a better-matched teacher. For a child who needs physical presence, that is money well spent. For a child who does not, it buys a smaller choice of specialist and a session that starts later in the evening.

Does IB Gram offer in-home IGCSE lessons anywhere in Hili?+

No, and not anywhere else in the UAE either. In-person home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Hili students are taught one-to-one over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. The URL says home tutor because that is the phrase families search, and the honest answer belongs at the top of the page rather than after a payment. If physical presence is a requirement, hire locally and use the permit, syllabus and replacement-policy questions on this page to judge the person you find.

How do the provider models compare on what happens if the tutor is wrong?+

This is the column nobody publishes and the one worth asking about. A large online platform will usually offer another tutor from a deep pool. A specialist agency should have a stated policy. An independent in-home tutor has no replacement at all, so a bad match means starting the search over. A marketplace leaves you to rebook yourself. Our position is that we change the tutor on your judgement rather than after a negotiation, which is also why the free trial exists: the question is better settled before money moves.

Should my child take the separate sciences or the co-ordinated award?+

Raise it with the school in Year 9, because it affects both qualification count and progression. Separate sciences means Cambridge 0625, 0620 and 0610 as three qualifications with full specifications. Co-ordinated 0654 is a double award and combined 0653 a single, covering all three sciences in compressed form with a different content map. Where a sixth form expects separate sciences for AS entry, the co-ordinated route can close it, and Al Ain's smaller school set means fewer alternatives. For tutoring, confirm the code so nobody teaches off-specification material.

Are tutoring rates in Al Ain lower than in Dubai or Abu Dhabi?+

Not in any published figure we could find. The bands quoted across this market are set by provider type rather than by city: AED 33 to AED 65 at the budget end, AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified online subject tutor, AED 180 to AED 500 for an in-home visit with travel, and AED 500 or more for a named premium tutor. What differs in Al Ain is supply rather than price. With a smaller private-school set, the scarce subjects attract longer waits and sit at the top of their band rather than the bottom.

Which permit should I ask a Hili tutor about?+

The MoHRE private tuition work permit, introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023. It is granted free of charge for two years and applied for through MoHRE's private tutor licensing service, with a stated two-working-day completion. Eligible categories include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed residents, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Ask which category and when it was issued. Because the permit is free and quick, there is no excuse for not holding one and no basis for charging more because of it.

Can a teacher at my child's Al Ain school tutor them privately for payment?+

No. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct bars serving students affiliated with the tutor's own school. Teachers tutoring outside school hours must hold the permit. If a tutor's pitch rests on teaching at your child's school, treat that as a reason to decline rather than a credential. The current wording should be checked against ADEK's own published policy document rather than taken from a tutoring page.

Which authority regulates my child's school if we move from Al Ain to Sharjah?+

The Sharjah Private Education Authority, which regulates private education in that emirate. Al Ain sits under ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, as part of Abu Dhabi. Dubai is KHDA, Ras Al Khaimah is the Department of Knowledge, and the Ministry of Education supervises private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. One practical difference: Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so curriculum approval and not only inspection sits with the emirate regulator there.

Why does this page refuse to name the best tutoring company in Al Ain?+

Because claims about a competitor's pricing, quality or legality are not ours to make, and because the research behind this page found that published comparisons in this market are unreliable. One ranking page contradicts its own prices; another publishes a schema price range that differs from its visible figure; a third asserts its own star rating. What is fair to compare is models: budget platform, specialist agency, independent in-home tutor, marketplace, premium individual, tuition centre. That comparison is in the table above, with every rate attributed to whoever published it.

Is a group class a reasonable alternative for a Hili family on a budget?+

Yes, when the whole group shares the same gap. A group of four revising a full syllabus broadly works and costs less per hour. The same group is poor value for a student who is secure everywhere except Paper 4 extended response, because most of each hour addresses someone else's weakness. If a group is what the budget allows, choose one organised by topic rather than by subject, and ask what the group's actual starting point is. We provide one-to-one only, for that reason.

How long does a match take for a Hili request?+

For Mathematics, the separate sciences, English or the humanities, usually two to six days. For co-ordinated science or a confirmed second-language English specification, closer to a week. For Additional Mathematics 0606, Computer Science 0478 or ICT, one to three weeks and sometimes a decline. For second modern languages, two to four weeks and most often a decline with a referral suggestion. Those timings are citywide rather than specific to Hili, and the narrow six-to-eight evening band fills first, so a Saturday morning slot widens the choice considerably.

What is the one question that separates a good provider from a weak one?+

Ask what they will do if a student brings coursework the night before it is due. The right answer is that a tutor reads the draft, marks it against the published criteria and asks whether the argument is supported. The wrong answer involves fixing it, and it tells you what else that provider is willing to do. The research behind this page found completed assessments on sale to UAE students at around AED 3,750, so this is not a hypothetical distinction. One question, asked before any money moves, settles it.

The neighbourhood is not the variable; the specification is

Comparing an IGCSE home tutor in Hili with one in Al Jimi, Al Mutaredh or Zakher produces the same shortlist and a different start time. Rates do not move by district, and the subjects that are scarce are scarce across the whole city because Al Ain's private-school set is small. What does change the answer is the board, the code and the tier your child is entered for, and that comes from the school office in one phone call. Get those three facts, then compare provider models using the table above. Lessons from IB Gram are one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time, with a free trial session and a marked paper as the starting point.
