IB DP Psychology Tutor in Al Ain

An IB DP psychology tutor in Al Ain teaches one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, and works to the rules your child's school actually sits under: ADEK licensing, the mandatory UAE subjects that run alongside the Diploma, and the May session every Al Ain campus prepares for. The subject is taught through the three approaches to behaviour, the chosen options and one experimental study. The first session is free.

  • ADEK licenses and accredits Al Ain private schools, not KHDA
  • Command terms drilled against the official assessment wording
  • Experimental study coached as the student's own research
  • Sessions timed around the UAE school week and Ramadan

IB & IGCSE in Al Ain

Psychology taught against the rules your school actually works under

Almost every page about IB Psychology tuition in the UAE is written as though the UAE were one place with one regulator. It is not. Al Ain sits inside the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, which means your child's school is licensed and accredited by ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, and not by Dubai's KHDA. That distinction changes which inspection report you should be reading, which authority sets the rules on teachers tutoring privately, and which published guidance applies to the Arabic and Islamic Education lessons sitting in your child's timetable next to Psychology.

It also changes the local supply picture. Al Ain is 130 kilometres inland from the capital and its private-school set is small, so Psychology is often a single class covering both Standard and Higher Level, with option topics chosen by the teacher rather than by the student. A Higher Level student needs two option topics, research methodology for the third paper and the Higher Level extensions inside each core approach. In a combined class, some of that gets fewer hours than it needs — not through neglect, but through arithmetic.

Psychology is also the Diploma subject most often chosen by students who expect it to be easier than it is. It reads approachably, it has no mathematics at Standard Level beyond descriptive statistics, and the content is genuinely interesting. Then the first assessed essay comes back with a 3, because the student wrote everything they knew about a study instead of answering the command term in the question. That failure is specific, diagnosable and entirely fixable, and it is what most of the sessions on this page are spent on.

Lessons are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video. IB Gram does not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service we run only in India. For Al Ain that is the format that works rather than a compromise: it puts a Psychology specialist who has marked these essays in front of your child without anyone driving to the capital, and it keeps a weekly slot alive through a term instead of collapsing the first time the school run runs late.

What follows is the version of this subject anchored to this emirate rather than to a generic UAE. Who regulates your school and what their published report actually means for a tuition decision. Which Al Ain campuses run the subject, at which levels, and how a combined Standard and Higher Level class changes what gets taught thoroughly. The assessed components and the command terms that decide the grade more often than content does. The experimental study from design approval to submission, counted backwards from the school's own internal deadline. The mandatory Arabic, Islamic Education and social studies lessons that sit alongside the Diploma and quietly eat the evenings a revision plan assumed were free. The Ministry of Education equivalency route for a student heading to a UAE university, with the figures we can source and a plain statement of the one figure we will not publish. And the market rate in AED, with the date it was read and the source named, because a price without a method behind it helps nobody choose.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Psychology exists only at Diploma level in the IB, but the route into it starts earlier and the exit route runs through equivalency and university admission. These are the stages that matter for an Al Ain family, with what each one means in this emirate specifically.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

There is no MYP Psychology, so the feeders are Individuals and Societies and the MYP sciences. What transfers is the ability to use evidence to support a claim and the habit of writing to a criterion rather than to a word count. What does not transfer is essay discipline under a command term, because MYP marking is far more forgiving of a student who writes everything they know.

In Al Ain the MYP and DP cohorts are often substantially the same group of students moving up through one small campus, so a year group that was never pushed on evidence-based writing in Individuals and Societies arrives in DP1 Psychology with the same habit intact. Ask the school which MYP subject your child's Psychology teacher also teaches; the answer frequently explains the house style of the marking.

DP1Ages 16-17 · Year 12

Diploma Programme, first year

DP1 covers the three approaches to behaviour — biological, cognitive and sociocultural — plus research methodology and ethical considerations. The experimental study is usually designed and run late in DP1 or across the summer. A student who finishes DP1 able to recite studies but unable to evaluate them has done the easier half of the year.

The Al Ain academic year runs roughly September to late June with a long July and August break. For Psychology that break is the natural window for the experimental study, because running a replication needs participants and time that term weeks do not give. Families travelling for most of the summer should have the design approved before they leave rather than after they return.

DP2Ages 17-18 · Year 13

Diploma Programme, second year

DP2 adds the option topics, the Higher Level extensions and, for Higher Level students, the research methodology paper built on an unseen abridged study. The experimental study report is finished and submitted, mocks are sat, and the final term is essay technique against the published criteria rather than new content.

Al Ain students sit the May session. Internal coursework deadlines are set by the school's Diploma coordinator and sit months before the papers because teachers need time to mark, moderate and upload. Get those dates in writing from the coordinator rather than from the student, and treat them as the real deadlines in any plan.

HLAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Higher Level Psychology

Higher Level adds a second option topic, the Higher Level extension content inside each core approach, and a paper on research methodology that presents an unseen abridged study and asks about its design, ethics and conclusions. That paper rewards a student who has read real studies critically all year, and punishes one who has only memorised the prescribed ones.

If your child is one of very few Higher Level Psychology students in an Al Ain cohort, ask the coordinator how many weekly hours the second option topic and the research methodology paper receive. Combined-level classes in small schools tend to teach the shared core thoroughly and compress the Higher Level additions, and that compression is exactly where one-to-one time pays.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Psychology is the subject on this page. These are the Diploma subjects our tutors cover for Al Ain students, described by what the assessment actually rewards rather than by what the syllabus contains.

Psychology

HL and SL

The biological, cognitive and sociocultural approaches, one or two option topics, research methodology and the experimental study. Marks are lost on command terms ignored, on studies described rather than used as evidence, and on evaluation that lists strengths and weaknesses without connecting them to the claim being argued.

Biology

HL and SL

The usual partner for a Psychology student heading towards medicine or neuroscience. The overlap with the biological approach is real — localisation, neurotransmission, hormones — but Biology's assessment demands far more precision in terminology and far more care with data analysis.

Economics

HL and SL

Shares Psychology's essay structure and its need for real-world application, and the behavioural economics content overlaps directly with cognitive biases. Students who evaluate well in one subject usually transfer the skill, which makes a shared tutor efficient where the timetable allows.

Business Management

HL and SL

Motivation theory, organisational culture and leadership overlap with the sociocultural approach. The assessment rewards application to a named organisation rather than theory recall, which trains the same discipline the Psychology essays need.

Geography

HL and SL

Another group 3 subject Al Ain schools commonly pair with Psychology. The written papers reward precise use of case studies and data, and students who can structure a Psychology essay generally structure a Geography one well once the command terms are mapped across.

English A: Language and Literature

HL and SL

The subject that most often limits a Psychology student's total, because Paper 1 is an unseen text under time pressure and the Individual Oral needs a global issue chosen months ahead. Both reward planning rather than flair.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

The statistics content is directly useful to the experimental study: sampling, measures of central tendency, dispersion and the logic of inferential testing. Students doing Psychology and this course together tend to write stronger analysis sections.

Arabic and UAE mandatory subjects

School-set streams

Arabic, Islamic Education and social studies run alongside any international curriculum in UAE private schools under federal rules. These are separate from the Diploma and marked by the school, but they occupy timetable space and homework time that a Psychology revision plan has to work around.

Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay

DP core

Psychology is a popular Extended Essay subject and a natural source of Theory of Knowledge examples, because the subject's own debates about evidence and method are knowledge questions already. Support is teaching, feedback and process coaching on the student's own work only.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three patterns cover almost every Al Ain Psychology request. All are one-to-one and live over video; what changes is cadence and what the hour is spent on.

Weekly one-to-one through term

A fixed 60 or 90 minute slot following the school's own scheme of work. The tutor sees the last marked essay, the current topic and the next assessment, and splits the hour between content that was missed and essay technique that was never explicitly taught. This is the pattern that moves a 4 to a 6 across two terms.

  • Same tutor and same time every week of term
  • Marked essays read against the official criteria before each session
  • A short written note after each session naming what changed
  • Paused rather than cancelled across school mock fortnights

Experimental study support blocks

A concentrated run of sessions around the school's internal deadline, usually late DP1 and across the summer. The work is choosing a replicable study, designing the procedure, thinking through ethics and sampling, and analysing results. The student designs, runs and writes it; the tutor teaches method and gives feedback on the student's own draft.

  • A published study chosen for being genuinely replicable at school scale
  • Ethical considerations worked through before any data is collected
  • Descriptive and, at Higher Level, inferential analysis taught properly
  • Drafts reviewed against the published criteria, never rewritten

Final-term essay technique

Short, frequent sessions in the twelve weeks before the papers, built almost entirely from past-paper questions under timed conditions. Command terms, essay structure and the use of studies as evidence dominate. New content is taught only where a gap is actively costing marks on a specific question type.

  • Timed short-answer and extended-response practice every session
  • Command terms drilled: outline, describe, explain, discuss, evaluate, contrast
  • A bank of studies the student can deploy from memory under pressure
  • Higher Level research methodology practised on unseen studies

ADEK, not KHDA: what your regulator actually changes

Al Ain is part of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, so your child's private school is regulated by ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Dubai's KHDA has no authority here. This matters practically rather than academically: the inspection report you should be reading is ADEK's, the fee approval route is ADEK's, and the professional-conduct rules that apply to your child's own Psychology teacher are Abu Dhabi's.

That last point is worth knowing before you ask the school for private help. Press reporting of ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff indicates that teachers are prohibited from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and that teachers tutoring outside school hours must hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, whose code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with their own school. Treat that as press-reported rather than as ADEK's exact current wording, and verify it against the current ADEK policy document before relying on it. The practical consequence is simple: the obvious solution of paying your child's own teacher is the one route that is likely closed.

The regulator map across the UAE is five bodies, not one, and no competitor page in this market sets it out. Dubai has KHDA, responsible for enhancing and overseeing the quality of private education in the emirate. Abu Dhabi, and therefore Al Ain, has ADEK. Sharjah has the Sharjah Private Education Authority. Ras Al Khaimah has the Department of Knowledge. The Ministry of Education plays a pivotal role in supervising private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Sharjah's and Ras Al Khaimah's authorities also approve tuition fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods, so in those emirates curriculum approval sits with the regulator and not only inspection.

None of this is bureaucratic trivia for a parent choosing tuition. It tells you whose published report to read when judging a school, whose rules constrain who may legally teach your child privately, and which authority to contact when something goes wrong. All of it comes from the federal portal at u.ae, which is the source to check rather than any tutoring company's summary of it.

Which Al Ain schools run Psychology, and how it is usually staffed

  • Confirm which levels are running for your child's cohort, not last year's
  • Get the department's chosen option topics in writing
  • Ask how many weekly hours the Higher Level additions receive
  • Ask whether experimental study topics are assigned or student-proposed

Psychology is a group 3 option, and in a city with a small private-school set that makes it a departmental decision rather than a guaranteed offering. Some Al Ain campuses run it at both levels. Some run a single combined class. Some do not offer it at all and steer students into Geography or Business Management. Before you look for a tutor, establish from the Diploma coordinator which levels are actually running for your child's cohort, which option topics the department has chosen, and how many weekly contact hours the Higher Level additions receive.

The combined-level class is the pattern worth understanding, because it produces a predictable gap. The three core approaches are shared between Standard and Higher Level, so a combined class teaches them to everybody and teaches them well. What gets compressed is the Higher Level-only material: the second option topic, the extension content inside each approach, and the research methodology paper. In a class of fifteen with four Higher Level students, that compression is a timetabling fact rather than a failure of teaching.

The option topics are the second thing to pin down. A Standard Level student studies one option; a Higher Level student studies two. Which options your child's school has chosen determines what revision material is relevant, and a tutor working from the wrong option wastes the term. Abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, health psychology and human relationships each carry their own studies, their own debates and their own typical essay questions, and they are not interchangeable.

Finally, ask how the experimental study is organised. Some departments assign a narrow menu of replicable studies to keep the process manageable; others let students propose their own and then spend weeks rescuing undeliverable designs. Knowing which model your school uses tells you whether the support you need is design help in DP1 or analysis and write-up help later.

03

The assessed components and what each one rewards

Diploma Psychology is assessed through written papers plus one internally assessed experimental study. Standard Level students sit papers on the core and on one option, alongside the experimental study. Higher Level students sit the core paper, a paper covering two options and an additional paper on research methodology, alongside the same experimental study. Exact durations and component weightings are published in the subject guide your child's cohort follows, so confirm them with the Diploma coordinator before a revision plan is built on them.

The core paper is the one most students underestimate. It mixes short answers requiring tight, controlled responses with an extended response demanding a sustained argument. Short answers fail when a student writes an essay; extended responses fail when a student writes a list. Both failures come from the same root, which is not reading the command term and not planning the shape of the answer before writing.

The options paper rewards depth over breadth. A student who knows four studies well in a single option outperforms one who knows twelve superficially, because the marks sit in how the evidence is used rather than in how much is cited. The Higher Level research methodology paper is different in kind: it presents an unseen abridged study and asks about its design, ethics and conclusions, which rewards a student who has spent the year reading studies critically rather than memorising them.

The experimental study is the only component entirely within the student's control. It is a report on a replication of a simple published experiment, assessed against published criteria, and the commonest failures are a design too ambitious to deliver, ethical considerations treated as a paragraph of boilerplate, and an evaluation that lists limitations without explaining what each one does to the conclusion.

04

The command terms that decide a Psychology grade

More Psychology marks are lost to command terms than to missing content. The question tells the student exactly what kind of answer is wanted, and a student who writes a good answer to a different question gets credit for almost none of it. Outline wants a brief account. Describe wants a detailed account without judgement. Explain wants reasons and causes. Discuss wants a balanced review of the arguments. Evaluate wants a judgement supported by evidence on both sides. Contrast wants differences made explicit rather than two separate descriptions placed side by side.

The diagnostic is quick and you can run it at home. Take your child's last marked essay and ask them, without looking, what the command term in the question was. A student who cannot say is a student whose essays will keep scoring in the middle regardless of how much they revise, because the revision adds content to an answer whose shape was wrong. This is the single highest-return thing tuition fixes in this subject, and it usually takes weeks rather than terms.

Evaluation is where it bites hardest. Students are taught to produce strengths and weaknesses, so they produce a list: the sample was small, the setting was artificial, the study was ethically questionable. None of that scores well on its own. What scores is connecting the limitation to the claim: if the sample was twenty undergraduates in one country, say what that does to the generalisation the student has just made. The difference between those two answers is often two grades.

The second recurring failure is the study used as decoration. A named study dropped into a paragraph without being tied to the argument reads as recall. The habit worth building is one sentence of claim, one of evidence from a named study, one of what that evidence does to the claim. Practising that three-sentence unit on unfamiliar questions is more useful than rereading notes, and it is what timed practice in the final term should mostly consist of.

05

The experimental study, from design to submission

  • Test the design against recruitment, standardisation, statistics and ethics
  • Think through ethics before data collection, not in the final draft
  • Connect every limitation to what it does to the conclusion
  • Count the plan back from the school's date, not the IB's

The experimental study is a report on a replication of a simple published experiment, and almost every problem with it is created at the design stage. A student who picks a study requiring specialist equipment, a large sample or a sensitive population has chosen a project that cannot be delivered inside an Al Ain school term, and the weeks spent discovering that are weeks taken from the write-up. The useful discipline is to test the design against four questions before any data is collected: can the participants be recruited, can the procedure be standardised, can the data be analysed with the statistics the student knows, and is it ethically defensible.

Ethics is not a paragraph to be added at the end. Informed consent, the right to withdraw, debriefing, protection from harm and the handling of data about minors all have to be thought through before the study runs, and in a school setting the participants are frequently other students. A report where the ethical considerations clearly came after the data is visible to a marker in a sentence, and it loses marks it never needed to lose.

A tutor's role here has a hard boundary and we state it at the first session. A tutor may explain the published criteria, challenge whether a design is deliverable, teach the statistics, question whether an evaluation actually connects to the conclusion, and read a draft and say where evidence is missing. A tutor may not design the study, analyse the data on the student's behalf or rewrite the report. The experimental study is assessed as the student's own research, and anything else puts the diploma at risk under IB academic-honesty rules rather than merely being against our policy.

Count the plan backwards from the school's internal deadline rather than forwards from today. Subtract a fortnight that belongs to the student for final checking, then the write-up, the analysis, the data collection and the design approval. For most Al Ain cohorts the design needs approving inside DP1, which is why the long summer matters: it is the only block of time in two years when a student can run a replication without a timetable in the way.

06

Arabic, Islamic Education and social studies alongside the Diploma

A Psychology revision plan for a UAE student has to work around subjects that do not appear in the Diploma at all. Under federal rules, private schools in the UAE are not obliged to follow a specific curriculum beyond Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies, but must adhere to the Ministry's general regulations. Those subjects sit in the timetable alongside the Diploma, carry their own homework, and are assessed by the school rather than by the IB. Parents planning tuition around a Diploma timetable alone routinely underestimate how much of the week they occupy.

The most detailed published guidance on how these subjects run is KHDA's mandatory-subjects document, which applies to Dubai rather than to Al Ain but is worth reading as the clearest statement of the model. It requires separate classes by group: for Arabic as a first language, Islamic Education and social studies, schools must organise separate classes for Arabs and non-Arabs, and combined classes for both groups are strictly prohibited because of the different curriculum expectations and language of instruction. It sets Standard Arabic as the main language of instruction for Islamic Education for Arabs and for Arabic as a first language, and the school's licensed-curriculum language for non-Arabs in Islamic Education and in moral, social and cultural studies.

The same guidance calculates instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit, allows schools to vary lesson length provided the total weekly time is met, and advises that any mandatory subject lesson should run at least 25 minutes. It also states that for these subjects the use of any different or additional content without prior permission from the Ministry of Education is strictly prohibited, and that schools must ensure teachers of Islamic Education and Arabic hold the appropriate approval from KHDA to teach them. That last constraint is why no tutoring provider should offer bespoke material for these subjects: the content is not ours to vary.

For an Al Ain family the practical takeaway is scheduling. Find out how many timetabled periods a week the mandatory subjects take and what homework they carry, and build the Psychology slot into the evening that is genuinely free rather than the one that looks free on a Diploma-only timetable.

Equivalency: what a Psychology student needs for a UAE university

Families in Al Ain frequently ask whether a Diploma with Psychology will be accepted for a UAE university, and the answer runs through the Ministry of Education's equivalency process rather than through the subject choice. Equivalency is the recognition of a foreign secondary certificate against UAE requirements, and it is a process the family and the school complete with the authority. No tutoring provider performs it, guarantees it or speeds it up, and anyone implying otherwise is misdescribing a regulatory process.

The requirements that are properly sourced are the British-track ones. Students on that route must submit proof of one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level with the same grade, and must pass five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3. Arabic and Islamic Education are not included among the five required subjects. That five-subject rule is worth knowing precisely, because at least one provider ranking for these searches publishes a six-subject requirement, which is wrong.

The American-track requirements are also published: English proficiency through a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL iBT, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, and mathematics through at least 450 in the SAT Math test before applying. For the IB specifically there is no points threshold we are prepared to publish, because we have not read one on the Ministry's own site. Anyone quoting an IB equivalency score without a moe.gov.ae source is guessing, and a guess about a regulatory threshold is the worst kind of error to inherit.

The practical advice for a Psychology student is unchanged by any of this: take the subject combination the intended degree asks for, keep the certificates and transcripts the authority will want, and ask the school's university counsellor to confirm the equivalency route early rather than in the final term. Tutoring does not enter into equivalency at all, and no page should imply that it does.

What Psychology tuition costs in Al Ain, and how to read the figures

Most providers in this market publish no rate at all, which is why parents ring four companies and get four deflections. The bands below come from UAE provider rate cards and from Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 rate table, read in October 2026. They describe what the market charges, not what IB Gram charges. Al Ain prices sit inside the Abu Dhabi emirate rather than Dubai, and in-home rates here carry heavier travel loading than the capital because the city is spread out and tutors are fewer.

Use the table as a budget tool rather than as a quote. A single weekly 60-minute session with a qualified online subject tutor at the middle of the band gives a predictable monthly commitment, which most families manage better than a panic block bought three weeks before a paper. Monthly packages advertised in the UAE have included roughly AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and roughly AED 1,599 to 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions, which is the clearest illustration available of what travel time adds to a rate.

Two traps are specific to this subject. The first is paying a specialist rate for general essay help: a generic humanities tutor can improve a paragraph but cannot mark an extended response against Psychology's own criteria or tell you why an evaluation scored poorly. The second is buying a block of hours rather than a plan, which produces a pleasant tutor, a satisfied student and a grade that has not moved. Ask what the next six sessions cover, what should be different by the end of them, and how you will know.

On the figures we do not publish: there is no IB Gram price list on this page, no satisfaction percentage, no star rating and no claimed grade improvement. A number without its sample, date and method attached tells a parent nothing, and we would rather show the market bands with their source than an invented statistic about ourselves.

How lessons are delivered, and the home-tutor question answered straight

Parents in Al Ain searching for Psychology help are usually weighing three options: a local tutor who can travel to the district, a weekly drive to a specialist in the capital, or an online one-to-one specialist. It is worth knowing what each actually costs. A local in-home tutor is priced with travel included, which in a spread-out city pushes the rate towards the upper end of the market band. The capital drive is around 130 kilometres each way, which is roughly three hours of travel on a school night on top of the lesson.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. Tutoring for UAE families is delivered one-to-one over live video; home visits are a service we run only in India. We put that before the argument rather than after it, because a family who wants someone physically present should not have to read four paragraphs to find out. What we would say for the format is narrower and more honest than the usual pitch: it is not that screens are better than rooms, it is that in Al Ain the online pool contains Psychology specialists who have marked these essays and the local pool frequently does not.

There is a second reason the format suits this subject. Psychology tuition is largely essay work, and essay work is done well when the tutor and the student are looking at the same marked script, annotating the same paragraph, at the same time. A shared screen does that cleanly. It also means the record of what was taught survives: the annotated scripts accumulate somewhere both the student and the parent can see, rather than in a notebook that gets lost in March.

Scheduling is the last piece. Sessions run on Gulf Standard Time, usually between 16:30 and 21:00 on school nights, built around the Al Ain school run and around the mandatory-subject homework load. During Ramadan most families move the slot later and shorten it; a 60-minute session after Iftar beats a 90-minute one that nobody has the energy for. The summer is treated as the experimental study window rather than as a gap.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Al Ain

Al Ain is low-density and spread out, and for a weekly online session the only variable that matters is when the household is genuinely home and settled. These are the districts Psychology enquiries most often come from, and what each one does to the evening.

Al Jimi

Central and close to several of the older campuses, so a 16:00 start is realistic. Psychology enquiries here often come mid-DP1, after the first assessed essay comes back lower than the student expected.

Asharej

The university district, where households are frequently academic and the student has often read well beyond the syllabus. The work needed is usually structure and command-term discipline rather than content, which is a fast kind of improvement.

Al Mutaredh

Older villa area near the centre with short school runs. Families here commonly book Psychology alongside a second group 3 subject, which is easier to timetable as one tutor across two evenings than two tutors competing for the same slot.

Al Towayya

Well connected by the ring roads, so arrival times are predictable. Predictability is what keeps a weekly Psychology slot intact across a whole term, and it matters more than raw distance from the school.

Falaj Hazzaa

Established central district within reach of several campuses. Requests from here often involve a student who chose Psychology expecting a lighter workload and met the evaluation requirement in term two.

Zakher

Towards the southern edge, where a 15:00 pick-up can mean arriving home after 16:15. A 17:00 or later start is the version that survives; earlier bookings from Zakher are the ones that quietly stop happening.

Hili and Al Foah

The northern districts near the Oman side of the city. Long runs in both directions make an online slot the only realistic weekly format, and they are also why the drive to a capital-based tutor rarely lasts beyond a few weeks.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Ain

Central Al Ain campuses

The older central private schools serve the dense districts around Al Jimi, Al Mutaredh and Falaj Hazzaa. Group 3 provision varies: some campuses offer Psychology, Geography and Business Management, others offer one of the three, and option-topic choices within Psychology are frequently made by the department rather than by students.

  • Al Ain English Speaking School
  • Our Own English High School, Al Ain
  • Al Dhafra Private Schools, Al Ain
  • The International School of Choueifat, Al Ain
  • Al Ain Juniors School

Outer campuses towards the Abu Dhabi road

Schools on the city edge draw from Zakher, Hili and the outlying compounds, and their cohorts are generally larger. A larger cohort usually means Psychology runs with a genuine Higher Level group, but it also means a student losing marks on evaluation is harder for one teacher to notice early.

  • Brighton College Al Ain
  • Emirates National School, Al Ain
  • Liwa International School, Al Ain
  • Al Ittihad National Private School, Al Ain
  • Emirates Future International Academy

Al Ain students registered outside the city

A regular minority of Al Ain Diploma candidates are not registered at an Al Ain campus. Families who moved inland often keep a capital school place, and a few students follow the Diploma through an online school or sit as private candidates at an approved examination centre.

  • Abu Dhabi island campuses kept after a move inland
  • Dubai campuses retained through a relocation year
  • Approved examination centres accepting private candidates
  • Students following the Diploma through an online school

Schools are named only as local context for Al Ain families. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation to, endorsement from or contract with any school, school group, regulator or examination board named here.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the level and the option topics

Three facts decide the match: Standard or Higher Level, which option topics the department chose, and the next date that matters. A tutor working from the wrong option topic wastes a term, and this is the one piece of information schools often have not put in writing anywhere a parent can see.

  2. 02

A free first session with the actual tutor

Not a sales call. The tutor works from your child's last marked essay, open on a shared screen, and shows what the command term in that question was asking for. You hear how they explain something your child has already lost marks on once.

  3. 03

A short written plan with dates

After the trial you get a plan naming what the next six sessions cover and what should be different afterwards: command-term control, a usable bank of studies, an experimental study design approved. If the plan has nothing specific in it, that is a reason to decline.

  4. 04

A fixed weekly slot on Gulf Standard Time

Scheduled around the Al Ain school run and the mandatory-subject homework load, and kept the same every week. Ramadan timings move later rather than being cancelled, and the summer is planned as the experimental study window well before July.

  5. 05

    Review against evidence, not impressions

Every few weeks we compare the plan with what has happened: marks on timed essays, experimental study milestones met or missed, command terms now controlled. If it is not working we change the plan or the tutor, and we raise that conversation rather than waiting for you to.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Written for this emirate, not for a generic UAE

Al Ain schools answer to ADEK, and the conduct rules, inspection reports and fee approvals that apply here are Abu Dhabi's rather than Dubai's. Pages that treat the UAE as one regulator give parents advice that does not apply to their school.

Matched on option topic and level

Psychology support is only useful if it covers the options your child's department actually chose. We confirm the level and both option topics before matching, because a tutor teaching the wrong option is worse than no tutor at all.

Command terms before content

Most Psychology marks are lost to answers of the wrong shape rather than to gaps in knowledge. We start with the last marked script and the command term in that question, because that is the fastest grade movement available in this subject.

The experimental study stays the student's own research

We teach method, challenge scope, explain the statistics and give feedback on the student's draft. We do not design studies, analyse data or write reports. That boundary is stated at the first session, before anyone pays.

Sourced figures, no invented statistics

Every AED band here names where it came from and when it was read, and the equivalency figures carry their source. We publish no price list, no satisfaction percentage and no star rating, because a number without its method is not evidence.

Scheduling that survives a UAE term

Sessions are built around the Al Ain school run, the mandatory-subject homework load, Ramadan timings and the long summer. A slot that fits the week it is actually in is the one that is still running in March.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Ain: your questions answered

Which authority regulates my child's school in Al Ain, and why does it matter for tutoring?+

ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, which includes Al Ain. Dubai's KHDA has no authority here. It matters for three practical reasons: the inspection report you should read when judging a school is ADEK's, the fee approval route is ADEK's, and the professional-conduct rules that govern whether your child's own teacher may tutor them privately are Abu Dhabi's. Any tuition advice written as though the UAE had a single regulator is advice about somebody else's school.

Can I pay my child's own Psychology teacher for private lessons in Al Ain?+

Probably not, and this is the question most Al Ain parents ask first. Press reporting of ADEK's professional-ethics rules indicates that private and charter school staff in Abu Dhabi are prohibited from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and that teachers tutoring outside school hours must hold the MoHRE private tuition work permit, whose code of conduct also bars serving students affiliated with their own school. Treat that as press-reported rather than exact current wording and check the current ADEK policy document. In practice, plan on needing someone outside the school.

Does every Al Ain school offer IB Psychology at Higher Level?+

No. Psychology is a group 3 option and in a city with a small private-school set its availability is a departmental decision that changes year to year. Some Al Ain campuses run both levels, some run a single combined class, and some do not offer the subject at all. Ask the Diploma coordinator which levels are running for your child's cohort specifically, which option topics the department has chosen, and how many weekly contact hours the Higher Level additions receive. The third answer is the one that predicts whether outside support will be needed.

Why do my child's Psychology essays keep scoring in the middle despite good revision?+

Almost always because the answers are the wrong shape rather than because content is missing. Take the last marked essay and ask your child, without looking, what the command term in the question was. Outline wants a brief account; describe wants detail without judgement; discuss wants a balanced review; evaluate wants a judgement supported on both sides; contrast wants differences made explicit. A student who cannot name the command term will keep scoring mid-band however much they revise, because revision adds content to an answer whose structure was already wrong.

How do I know which Psychology option topics my child is actually studying?+

Ask the department in writing, because this is the single piece of information most often missing from reports and most often guessed at. A Standard Level student studies one option topic and a Higher Level student studies two, chosen from abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, health psychology and human relationships. Each carries its own studies, debates and typical questions, and they are not interchangeable. A tutor working from the wrong option will teach competently for a term and move nothing, so confirm this before the first paid session rather than after.

What does a strong evaluation paragraph in IB Psychology actually look like?+

It connects a limitation to the claim rather than listing it. A weak paragraph says the sample was small, the setting was artificial and the ethics were questionable. A strong one says the sample was twenty undergraduates in one country, so the generalisation just made about adult behaviour cannot be supported beyond that population, and then says what evidence would be needed instead. The usable habit is a three-sentence unit: one sentence of claim, one of evidence from a named study, one of what that evidence does to the claim.

How should my child choose a replicable study for the Psychology experimental study?+

Test any candidate design against four questions before collecting data. Can the participants actually be recruited in a school setting; can the procedure be standardised so every participant experiences the same thing; can the results be analysed with the statistics your child already knows; and is it ethically defensible with minors. A design that fails any of the four should be abandoned in the planning weeks rather than rescued in the write-up weeks. Ambitious designs are the single commonest reason this component underperforms.

What can a tutor legitimately do on the Psychology experimental study?+

A tutor may explain the published assessment criteria, challenge whether a design is deliverable, teach the descriptive and inferential statistics, question whether an evaluation connects to the conclusion, and read the student's own draft and say where evidence is missing. A tutor may not design the study, run the analysis on the student's behalf or rewrite the report. The experimental study is assessed as the student's own research, and crossing that line is a malpractice risk that falls on the student. We state the boundary at the first session rather than after a booking.

Do the mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education lessons affect a Diploma revision plan?+

Yes, more than most families expect. Under federal rules UAE private schools must teach Arabic language, social studies and Islamic studies alongside their licensed curriculum, and those subjects carry their own timetable periods, homework and assessments. KHDA's mandatory-subjects guidance, which is Dubai-specific but the clearest published version of the model, calculates instructional time on a 40-minute lesson unit and requires separate classes for Arab and non-Arab students. Before fixing a weekly Psychology slot, find out how many periods and how much homework these subjects take, and build around the evening that is genuinely free.

Is the IB Diploma with Psychology accepted for equivalency in the UAE?+

Equivalency is a Ministry of Education process that recognises a foreign secondary certificate, and it is completed by the family and school with the authority rather than by any tutoring provider. The British-track requirements are published: five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic Education, plus one Advanced Level at E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at E. For the IB specifically we will not publish a points threshold, because we have not read one on the Ministry's own site. Verify on moe.gov.ae and ask the school's counsellor early.

What does weekly IB Psychology tuition cost for a family in Al Ain?+

Market rates in the UAE for a qualified subject tutor working online run roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, and for an IB specialist roughly AED 200 to 450 and upwards, according to provider rate cards and Bestimate's Tutoring Cost Dubai 2026 table read in October 2026. In-home rates sit higher, around AED 180 to 500, because travel is priced in, and in a spread-out city that loading is heavier than in the capital. Those are market bands and not our price list. The first session with us is free, before any figure is discussed.

Does IB Gram send a Psychology tutor to our home in Al Ain?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; that service runs only in India. Tutoring for Al Ain families is delivered one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time. We say so before any pricing conversation, because a family who wants someone physically present should know immediately. For an essay-based subject the format carries a real advantage: the tutor and student annotate the same marked script at the same time on a shared screen, and the annotated scripts accumulate somewhere both the student and the parent can see.

Is it worth driving to Abu Dhabi weekly for a face-to-face Psychology specialist?+

Rarely, once the time is counted. Al Ain to Abu Dhabi island is around 130 kilometres each way, so a weekly session costs roughly three hours of travel on a school night on top of the lesson. Over two Diploma years that is a very large number of hours, and those sessions are the first thing cancelled whenever anything else in the week goes wrong. Since Psychology tuition is largely work on marked scripts, a live video session with a shared screen gets a wider pool of specialists and no travel at all.

How many sessions a week does an Al Ain Psychology student usually need?+

One weekly session of 60 or 90 minutes covers most term-time cases, with a short block around the experimental study and a denser run in the final twelve weeks. Two sessions a week makes sense when there is a specific backlog with a deadline attached, such as an unwritten report with two months left. Beyond two, the problem is usually work habits rather than subject knowledge, and paid hours are a slow and expensive way to fix a routine that needs changing at home instead.

Can sessions move later during Ramadan and still be useful?+

Yes, and most Al Ain families do exactly that. The usual pattern is a shorter session later in the evening, after Iftar, rather than the normal slot at a time when nobody has the energy to argue about methodology. A focused 60 minutes at 21:00 is worth more than 90 distracted minutes at 17:00. Essay marking and feedback work particularly well in that format because the thinking is short and concentrated. The frequency stays the same; only the timing and length change, and the slot is agreed before Ramadan starts rather than week by week.

My child chose Psychology thinking it would be lighter than a science. Was that a mistake?+

Not necessarily, but the expectation needs correcting early. Psychology has no heavy mathematics at Standard Level and the content reads approachably, which is why it is often chosen as the easier group 3 option. The assessment is not easier: it demands sustained evaluative writing under command terms, a bank of studies deployed as evidence rather than recited, and an experimental study with real design and ethics decisions. Students who adjust in the first term do well. Students who discover it in DP2 lose a year of essay practice they cannot get back.

Start with the option topics and the last marked essay

Two things make a first session useful: the option topics your child's department actually chose, and the most recent marked Psychology essay. Send us the level and those two items and we will match a Diploma Psychology tutor who has taught that option, at a time that fits an Al Ain evening. The first session is free and runs on the real script rather than on a generic diagnostic, so you can hear how a command term gets explained before you commit to anything. Afterwards you get a short written plan with dates, and the decision is yours.
