IB DP Physics HL Tutor in Al Ain

An IB DP Physics HL tutor in Al Ain is usually hired at one of three moments: the first set of DP1 reports, the week the scientific investigation data refuses to behave, or six weeks before the May session. This page is built around those moments. Lessons run live online, one-to-one, timed to Gulf Standard Time so a session can start after a Zakher or Al Jimi school run rather than instead of it.

  • Live one-to-one video sessions scheduled around Al Ain school-run timings
  • Physics HL specialists matched by theme and paper, not by driving distance
  • One free trial lesson per family, no card details taken beforehand
  • Written notes after every session, sent to parent and student together

IB & IGCSE in Al Ain

Where your child is now, and what the weeks between here and the May session look like

An IB DP Physics HL tutor in Al Ain is answering a timeline question, not a subject question. A parent rarely searches this phrase because they want a general overview of Higher Level Physics. They search it because a predicted grade has landed lower than the university offer needs, because the scientific investigation draft came back with a weak Evaluation mark, or because Theme D arrived and the student stopped understanding lessons they used to follow. The useful first question is not what Physics HL covers. It is how many teaching weeks are left, and what has to happen inside them.

The Diploma is a two-year course with a Higher Level subject allocation of 240 guided teaching hours, and almost every recoverable problem in Physics HL is a sequencing problem. Kinematics and forces in Theme A are taught early, assessed lightly in DP1, then relied on constantly in Theme C and Theme D a year later. A student who never fully fixed vector resolution in October of DP1 will meet the same gap again in the autumn of DP2 wearing a different costume: as circular motion, as the component of a gravitational field along a slope, as a flux calculation. Finding the original gap is what makes a term of tutoring different from a term of re-teaching.

Al Ain adds a specific constraint. The city is part of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, so its private schools are licensed and inspected by ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. The inland school set is smaller than the capital's, and Higher Level sciences are where that shows. A cohort of eight Physics HL students in one Al Ain school is normal. One teacher may carry both the SL and HL sets in the same room, which is workable for Theme A and much harder for the HL-only material in A.4, A.5, B.4, D.4 and E.2.

What a tutor can honestly offer against that is time and specialisation, not proximity. Lessons here are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video. IB Gram does not run in-home visits anywhere in the UAE; home visits are a service offered only in India. The trade is deliberate. A family in Al Ain gets a Physics HL specialist who has taught the current guide and marked work against the current investigation criteria, instead of whichever tutor is willing to drive 130 kilometres from Abu Dhabi island on a Tuesday evening.

The rest of this page is laid out as a countdown. It starts with what the course actually contains and what the HL-only additions are, moves through the assessment weightings and the places marks are lost, sets out the investigation criteria and their mark allocations, and then works backwards from the May session through every internal deadline a DP student in Al Ain meets on the way. The AED rate bands, the permit position and the ADEK context sit at the end, because they are decisions a parent makes once and the teaching plan is the thing that changes week to week.

At a glance

  • Higher Level Physics is assessed by two papers and one internal investigation, weighted 36%, 44% and 20%
  • The HL-only material is concentrated in rigid body mechanics, relativity, thermodynamics, induction and quantum physics
  • A 3,000-word limit applies to the scientific investigation report, marked out of 24 across four criteria
  • Al Ain private schools sit under ADEK, not KHDA, so inspection reports and policies come from a different authority
  • Sessions are live online and timed to Gulf Standard Time; there is no in-home option in the UAE
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Four routes bring an Al Ain student to this page, and each one starts the countdown at a different point. The notes below say what the gap usually is at each stage and how long it typically takes to close in weekly one-to-one sessions.

DP HLAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2 · 240 guided hours

Diploma Programme Physics, Higher Level

The full Higher Level course: the five themes plus the HL-only extensions, two written papers and the scientific investigation. Paper 1 is split into a multiple-choice section and a data-analysis section; Paper 2 carries the long structured and extended-response questions. The data booklet is supplied in the examination, which changes what is worth memorising and what is worth practising.

In Al Ain the HL set is often small enough to share a room with the SL set. That means the HL-only topics are frequently taught in compressed blocks late in DP2, and a student who misses two weeks of D.4 induction through illness or travel has no second pass through it at school. Weekly one-to-one sessions exist mainly to hold that material open.

DP SLAges 16-19 · DP1 and DP2 · 150 guided hours

Diploma Programme Physics, Standard Level

The same five themes without the Higher Level extensions, shorter papers and the same investigation worth 20%. Standard Level students who are considering a move up to Higher Level need the decision made early, because the HL additions are not evenly spread across the two years and catching up on A.4 and A.5 in DP2 is a different task from meeting them in sequence.

Al Ain students sometimes start Physics at Standard Level because the HL set did not run, then need Higher Level for an engineering application to a UK or UAE university. Where a school can accommodate the switch, the realistic window is the first term of DP1. We will say plainly when a switch is no longer sensible rather than sell sessions against it.

MYPAges 14-16 · MYP 4-5 · the run-up year

Middle Years Programme Sciences, Years 4 and 5

MYP Sciences is assessed on four criteria and rewards investigation design and communication. Diploma Physics rewards algebraic fluency, unit discipline and the ability to read a graph gradient as a physical quantity. The gap between the two is the single most common reason a strong MYP student finds DP1 Physics harder than expected in the first term.

Al Ain families moving from an MYP programme into a Diploma set in the same school still cross this gap, and so do students arriving from a British Year 11 or a CBSE Class 10. The pre-DP summer is the cheapest time to close it: six to eight sessions on rearranging formulae, logarithms, trigonometry in context and uncertainty notation.

Physics Extended Essay and the Theory of Knowledge link

A Physics Extended Essay needs a question narrow enough to answer with data a student can actually gather. Supervision here means process coaching: reading the research question for feasibility, checking that the method generates enough data points, questioning the uncertainty treatment, and reviewing the student's own drafts against the published criteria.

A tutor working with an Al Ain student on a Physics Extended Essay never produces text for it. The school supervisor signs the authenticity declaration, and the IB treats work that is not the student's own as malpractice. What a tutor adds is feasibility pressure early, when a research question is still changeable, and honest criticism of the student's own analysis later.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

The grid below is the Physics Higher Level course as a tutoring plan rather than a syllabus listing. Each entry names what the theme assesses and where Al Ain students most often lose marks on it, so a trial lesson can start somewhere specific.

Theme A: Space, time and motion

SL and HL, with A.4 and A.5 Higher Level only

Kinematics, forces, momentum, work, energy and power at both levels, then rigid body mechanics and Galilean and special relativity for Higher Level. Marks go missing on vector resolution, on momentum problems where the system boundary is chosen carelessly, and on relativity questions where the student picks the wrong frame before doing any algebra.

Theme B: The particulate nature of matter

SL and HL, with B.4 Higher Level only

Thermal energy transfers, the greenhouse effect, gas laws and current and circuits, plus thermodynamics for Higher Level. The usual losses are specific heat capacity questions answered without tracking which body gains and which loses, circuit questions where internal resistance is ignored, and entropy answers that describe disorder instead of using the definition.

Theme C: Wave behaviour

SL and HL

Simple harmonic motion, the wave model, wave phenomena, standing waves and resonance, and the Doppler effect. Higher Level pushes further into single-slit and multiple-slit interference and quantitative Doppler treatment. Students who never secured phase relationships in simple harmonic motion lose marks across the whole theme rather than in one place.

Theme D: Fields

SL and HL, with D.4 Higher Level only

Gravitational fields, electric and magnetic fields, motion in electromagnetic fields, and electromagnetic induction for Higher Level. This is where Al Ain HL students most often report that lessons stopped making sense, because the theme assumes fluent vector work and comfort with inverse-square relationships from Theme A a year earlier.

Theme E: Nuclear and quantum physics

SL and HL, with E.2 Higher Level only

Atomic structure, radioactive decay, fission, fusion and stars at both levels, with quantum physics added at Higher Level. Taught late in DP2, so it is the theme most often compressed. Mass-energy calculations lose marks on unit conversion more often than on physics, and stellar questions lose them on reading a Hertzsprung-Russell diagram.

The scientific investigation

SL and HL, 20% of the final mark

One report of up to 3,000 words, marked out of 24 across Research design, Data analysis, Conclusion and Evaluation. Evaluation is the criterion where UAE students most often leave marks behind, because it asks for method-specific weaknesses and realistic improvements rather than general statements about human error and more repeats.

Paper 1B data analysis

SL and HL

The data-based section of Paper 1 asks students to process unfamiliar experimental data: plot, linearise, read a gradient, assign uncertainty, and comment on whether the data support a relationship. It is the most trainable part of the whole course and the part most often left untrained until the final weeks.

Paper 2 extended response

SL and HL

Long structured questions that cross themes inside a single scenario, where command terms decide the mark. Explain, describe, outline, determine, deduce and justify each ask for a different shape of answer, and a correct physics answer written to the wrong command term still loses the mark.

Mathematics AA alongside Physics HL

AA HL and AA SL

Physics HL leans on calculus, logarithms and trigonometric manipulation that Mathematics AA covers directly. Students taking Mathematics AI alongside Physics HL are not disadvantaged by the IB, but they usually need the algebraic fluency built deliberately rather than picked up in the maths lesson.

Physics Extended Essay

DP core, 4,000 words

A 4,000-word independent investigation with its own criteria and its own supervision rules. The common failure is a research question that cannot be answered with the data available in a school laboratory, discovered too late to change. Feasibility pressure in the first fortnight is worth more than any amount of editing later.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Four ways families in Al Ain use Physics HL sessions. The right one depends almost entirely on how much time is left, which is why the countdown table further down this page is the thing to read before choosing.

Weekly one-to-one through the course

One live online session a week alongside school teaching, used to keep the current theme secure and to repair the earlier gap it exposes. This is the mode that works when a family starts in DP1 rather than in the spring of DP2, and it is also the cheapest per unit of progress because nothing has to be re-taught twice.

  • Same tutor, same slot, booked against the school's own scheme of work
  • Each session opens with the question the student got wrong last week
  • Written notes after every session so a parent can see what was covered
  • Slot moves for Ramadan, exam weeks and travel without losing the tutor

Scientific investigation clinic

A short block of sessions timed to the investigation, usually four to six hours spread across the planning, analysis and writing phases. The tutor pressure-tests the research question for feasibility, checks that the data set can carry the analysis the student intends, and gives criterion-referenced feedback on the student's own drafts.

  • Research question narrowed before any data is collected, not after
  • Uncertainty and error propagation handled while the method can still change
  • Feedback against Research design, Data analysis, Conclusion and Evaluation
  • No part of the report is written or edited for the student at any stage

Pre-exam intensive block

Two or three sessions a week in the final six to ten weeks, built from the student's own past-paper scripts rather than a fixed revision sequence. The block is organised by command term and by theme-crossing question type, because that is how Paper 2 is written and it is not how most school revision is organised.

  • Timed sections marked and returned with per-mark commentary
  • Paper 1B data questions drilled as a separate skill from content revision
  • A written triage list: what to secure, what to shore up, what to abandon
  • Session timing moved later in the evening during the exam period

Theme repair for a single HL topic

A fixed block aimed at one Higher Level topic that went past too fast: rigid body mechanics, thermodynamics, induction or quantum physics. Families use this when a student is otherwise solid and one theme is dragging a predicted grade down, and it typically runs three to five sessions rather than an open-ended booking.

  • Diagnostic first session against past-paper questions on that topic only
  • Prerequisite gaps from Theme A or Theme B fixed inside the same block
  • Explicit finish point agreed before the block starts
  • Progress measured by marks on questions the student could not previously start

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Ain

01

What an IB DP Physics HL tutor in Al Ain is actually being asked to fix

  • Cannot start the question: the gap is earlier in the course, not in this theme
  • Starts correctly, loses the final marks: command terms and answer structure
  • Correct method, wrong quantity: units, prefixes and significant figures
  • Correct everything, too slow: timing practice rather than more teaching

Three problems account for most searches for an IB DP Physics HL tutor in Al Ain. The first is a predicted grade that sits below a university offer, usually discovered in DP1 reports or at the start of DP2. The second is the scientific investigation, where a student has collected data that does not support the relationship they expected and has six weeks to turn it into a report marked out of 24. The third is a specific theme, almost always Theme D fields or the Higher Level thermodynamics in B.4, where the student can follow worked examples in class and cannot start a question alone.

Each of those needs a different plan, and the distinction matters because the cheapest mistake a family makes is booking open-ended weekly sessions for a problem that has a finish point. A predicted-grade problem is a sequencing problem and takes a term. An investigation problem is a four-to-six-hour block timed to specific deadlines. A single-theme problem is three to five sessions and then stops. Selling a term of tuition for a three-session problem is how tutoring gets its reputation in this city.

The diagnostic that separates them is simple and happens in the trial lesson. The student attempts two past-paper questions on the topic they say is the problem, talking through what they are doing. If they cannot start, the gap is prerequisite and sits earlier in the course. If they start correctly and lose marks at the end, the gap is command-term and exam-technique work. If they produce correct physics and the wrong quantity, the gap is unit and notation discipline, which is the fastest of the three to fix and the most commonly misdiagnosed as a content problem.

02

The Higher Level course, theme by theme, and what the HL-only material adds

  • Higher Level additions are concentrated in five named sub-topics, not spread evenly
  • Theme A is the prerequisite for both Theme C and Theme D a year later
  • Theme B circuits work underpins the Higher Level induction material in D.4
  • The tools and inquiry strand runs through every theme and is rarely revised as a topic

The current IB Physics guide organises content into five themes rather than the older topic-and-option structure, and the Higher Level course is the Standard Level content plus a set of named extensions. Knowing exactly where those extensions sit matters for planning, because they are not spread evenly across the two years. A student who joins Higher Level late, or who misses a block of DP2 through travel, loses a disproportionate share of the HL-only material rather than a slice of everything.

The table below maps the five themes to their Higher Level additions. The right-hand column is the planning answer: how much extra tutoring time that extension usually needs for a student who is secure on the Standard Level content underneath it. Those figures are our own teaching estimate for one-to-one sessions, not a published IB figure, and a student weak on the prerequisites needs more.

One pattern is worth naming before the table. Theme A is the prerequisite for Theme C and Theme D, and Theme B's circuits material is the prerequisite for the induction work in D.4. This is why a Physics HL student in Al Ain who struggled quietly in the first term of DP1 tends to hit a visible wall in the autumn of DP2. The wall is not Theme D. It is Theme A, met again at a level that no longer tolerates approximation.

The guide also sets out a tools and inquiry strand that runs through every theme rather than sitting in one of them: experimental technique, use of technology, and the mathematics a physicist is expected to apply without prompting. Schools teach it inside practical work, which means it is rarely revised as a topic and rarely tested as one until Paper 1B arrives. For an Al Ain student in a small Higher Level set, that strand is often the quietest gap on the page, because nobody has ever marked it separately.

How Higher Level Physics is assessed, and where the marks go

Higher Level Physics is assessed by two written papers and one internal investigation. Paper 1 carries 36% of the grade and is split into a multiple-choice section and a data-analysis section. Paper 2 carries 44% and holds the structured and extended-response questions. The scientific investigation carries the remaining 20%. A parent reading a report that says Physics is going fine is reading an opinion about Paper 2 performance; the other 56% of the grade is often not being tested at school at all until late.

That weighting has a direct consequence for how tutoring hours are spent. Paper 1B data analysis is a trainable skill with a small syllabus: plot, linearise, read a gradient as a physical quantity, propagate uncertainty, and judge whether the data support the claimed relationship. A student can move several marks on it in four or five focused sessions. The same hours spent on general content revision move far less, because content knowledge is usually not the binding constraint by the spring of DP2.

The investigation is the other asymmetry. It is 20% of the grade, it is marked out of 24 by the school and moderated by the IB, and it is the only component where the student controls the conditions completely. A mark of 18 rather than 12 on the investigation is worth more to a final grade than most students' realistic gain on Paper 2 in the same number of weeks. Families who understand this book the investigation clinic in DP1 and the exam block in DP2, in that order.

The scientific investigation, criterion by criterion, with its mark allocations

The scientific investigation is one report of up to 3,000 words, marked out of 24 across four criteria: Research design, Data analysis, Conclusion and Evaluation, each carrying 6 marks. No competitor page on this search names a single criterion or a single mark allocation, and parents are routinely asked to support a component they have never seen described. The breakdown below is what the student is actually being marked against.

Research design is where most recoverable marks sit, and it is decided before any data exists. A research question that names the independent variable, the dependent variable and the range, with a method that controls the obvious confounders and generates enough data points to plot, is most of the criterion. A question like whether temperature affects resistance is not answerable at this level; the same investigation framed around resistance against temperature over a stated range with a stated number of readings is.

Evaluation is where UAE students most often lose marks, and the reason is consistent. The criterion asks for weaknesses specific to this method and improvements that would actually address them. Writing that human error affected the results, or that more repeats would help, describes any experiment ever conducted and earns little. Writing that the thermometer's resolution limited the temperature readings to the nearest half degree, which accounts for the scatter at the low end, and that a thermocouple with data logging would reduce it, is the same length and earns the mark.

SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATION CRITERIA AND MARKS, CURRENT IB SCIENCES GUIDE

The May session counted backwards: a twenty-four month plan from DP1 to results day

Diploma students in Al Ain sit the May session, as do almost all UAE schools. The table below is deliberately expressed in windows relative to that session rather than in calendar dates. IB examination and results dates are set by the IB and published through ibo.org and the school's Diploma coordinator, and dates found on tutoring sites are frequently out of date, so the authoritative source for your child's cohort is the coordinator's own calendar.

What the table does give is the shape of the two years, which does not change. Subject choices and Higher Level decisions are made before DP1 begins. The investigation is proposed, run and written across DP1 term 3 and DP2 term 1. Internal deadlines for the Extended Essay and the investigation cluster in the autumn of DP2, which is also when Theme D and Theme E are being taught. That overlap is the single busiest point in the course and it is predictable eighteen months in advance.

Reading the table backwards is the useful direction for a parent who has just arrived at this page in the spring of DP2. If the investigation is already submitted and the papers are the remaining problem, the realistic plan is a six-to-ten week intensive block built from the student's own scripts. If the investigation is still open, that comes first regardless of how the papers look, because it is 20% of the grade under the student's own control and the papers are not.

What Physics tutoring costs in Al Ain and across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi

Published rates for IB tutoring in the UAE are scarce, and the pages that do publish them usually quote in dollars. The bands below are market rates gathered from providers' own published pricing and from Bestimate's 2026 tutoring cost survey for Dubai. They are what the market charges, not an IB Gram price list. Our own pricing is quoted after the free trial lesson, against the subject, the level and the number of weeks left, because a four-session investigation block and a two-year weekly booking are not the same product.

Two things are specific to Al Ain. In-home rates in the city carry the same travel loading as the capital without the same supply of Higher Level science specialists, so a family paying the top of the in-home band is frequently paying a travel premium for a tutor who teaches Standard Level content confidently and Higher Level content from a textbook. Online rates do not carry the travel loading, which is most of the gap between the two columns below.

The other Al Ain factor is scarcity rather than price. A Physics HL specialist who has taught the current guide, marked investigations against the current criteria and worked through a full Paper 2 series is not a common find within driving distance of Al Jimi. The honest comparison is not cheaper against more expensive. It is a subject specialist at an online rate against a generalist at an in-home rate, and for Higher Level Physics in the final year that difference shows up in the marks.

Online sessions against a tutor driving to a villa in Zakher

The phrase most Al Ain parents start with is home tuition, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a redirect. In-home tutoring in Al Ain is a real market. It is priced at roughly AED 180-500 an hour depending on level and tutor, according to the market sources above, and a substantial part of that is travel. A tutor crossing Al Ain between Zakher and Al Jimi in the late afternoon is giving up a working hour to do it, and that hour is in the rate whether it is itemised or not.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. Lessons for Al Ain families are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video, and in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. The comparison below is the honest case for that choice rather than a dismissal of the alternative. For Higher Level Physics specifically, the deciding factor is the size of the available tutor pool: online, the pool is every Physics HL specialist who can teach at a Gulf Standard Time evening slot, which is a different order of magnitude from those within a 20-minute drive of a particular Al Ain district.

There are genuine advantages on the other side and it is dishonest to pretend otherwise. A younger student who needs supervision as much as teaching is often better served face to face. A student who will not engage with a screen will not learn from one. For a DP2 Physics HL student working through past papers on a shared document with a tutor annotating the same script in real time, the screen is not a compromise; it is a better tool than two people and one piece of paper.

ADEK, the private tutor permit, and how to check your child's tutor is legal

Al Ain sits in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, so its private schools are licensed and inspected by ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. This is a different authority from Dubai's KHDA, and it matters in practice: inspection reports, policy circulars and staff conduct rules for an Al Ain campus come from ADEK, and a tutoring page that explains Dubai's KHDA framework to an Al Ain parent is explaining the wrong regulator.

Private tutoring itself is regulated federally through MoHRE. The private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, it is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18 and university students. Individuals offering private tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, so any page quoting a figure is guessing.

One Abu Dhabi rule deserves particular attention from Al Ain parents. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported to prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct has been reported to bar the same thing. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document before relying on it, but treat an offer of your child's own classroom teacher for paid private lessons as a question worth asking rather than a convenience. IB Gram holds no ADEK, MoHRE or IB accreditation and claims none; what we can do is tell you what to ask.

If the Physics grade decides a medicine or engineering application

  • Confirm whether the offer requires Physics at Higher Level or accepts Standard Level
  • Check the grade the offer actually names before buying a term of tutoring
  • Equivalency rules for IB points are not published on tutoring sites; verify with the Ministry
  • University entry requirements can sit above the equivalency minimum for the same course

Higher Level Physics is a prerequisite rather than a preference for a large share of engineering courses, and it is a common third subject in science applications. That changes what a tutoring plan is for. A student who needs a 6 to hold an offer is in a different position from one who needs a 4 to pass the Diploma, and the sections of the course worth hours are different. A borderline 5-to-6 student usually gains most from Paper 1B and command-term work; a borderline 3-to-4 student gains most from securing Theme A and Theme B properly.

For students staying in the UAE, the Ministry of Education equivalency process is a separate matter from the university's own entry requirements, and no tutoring provider performs or guarantees it. For British-track students, the published requirements are five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, excluding Arabic and Islamic education from that count, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade. For the American track, English proficiency is a score of 5 in IELTS academic, 61 in TOEFL iBT or 450 in SAT reading and writing, and mathematics requires at least 450 in SAT Math.

For the IB specifically, no points threshold for equivalency should be taken from a tutoring page, including this one. The published British-track and American-track figures above come from a named news source reporting the Ministry's clarification; the IB figure was not stated there and must be confirmed on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate's attestation authority. Al Ain families applying to United Arab Emirates University, Al Ain University or a capital institution should also read the programme's own entry requirements, which can be stricter than the equivalency floor.

Academic honesty: what a Physics tutor may and may not do

  • Allowed: teaching technique, criterion-referenced feedback on the student's own draft, marked practice
  • Allowed: challenging feasibility, method and uncertainty treatment before data is collected
  • Not allowed: supplying text, graphs, conclusions or edits that become part of the submission
  • The test: could the student explain and defend every sentence unaided to their supervisor?

The Physics course has two components where the boundary matters: the scientific investigation and, for students who choose it, the Physics Extended Essay. Both must be the student's own work, and the school's supervisor signs an authenticity declaration. A tutor who crosses that line exposes the student to an academic misconduct finding, which is a far larger risk than a disappointing mark. Some providers in this market sell completed coursework outright, and that is an IB malpractice trigger, not a service.

What a tutor may legitimately do is substantial. Teach the technique on different data. Ask whether a research question is answerable with the equipment available. Point out that an uncertainty has been propagated inconsistently and teach the rule, so the student can find the rest themselves. Read a student's own draft and say which criterion a paragraph is failing and why. Set practice questions and mark them. All of that is teaching, and all of it is allowed.

What a tutor may not do is produce any part of the submitted work. No text, no graphs built for the student, no rewritten paragraphs returned for pasting, no suggested conclusion the student has not reached from their own data. The practical test we use with students is whether they could explain and defend every sentence to their supervisor without help. If not, it is not their work, and they should not submit it. This boundary is stated to the student in the first session, not discovered at the deadline.

Where we tutor

Scheduling a Physics HL session from each part of Al Ain

Al Ain is spread out, and the practical question is not travel distance but what time a session can realistically start. The notes below are about session timing and which campuses sit where, because that is what decides whether a weekly slot survives past the third week.

Al Jimi

Central, close to several long-established private campuses, and one of the districts where a 4pm start is realistic because the school run is short. Families here often want two shorter weekly sessions rather than one long one, which suits Paper 1B drilling.

Al Muwaiji

West of the centre and residential, with families typically commuting to campuses in Al Jimi or along the Abu Dhabi road. A 4.30pm or 5pm start works better than 4pm during term, and the slot usually needs moving in Ramadan to a post-Iftar time.

Zakher

Southern villa district, further from the central school cluster, so arrival home is later and evening sessions dominate. Students here commonly carry the longest daily commute of any Al Ain group, which makes a 90-minute session on a Friday more sustainable than two weeknight slots.

Al Towayya

Near the hospital district with a mixed residential pattern, and a district where sibling scheduling matters: parents often book a DP Physics slot and an MYP Sciences slot back to back so one evening carries both children rather than two.

Asharej

Close to the United Arab Emirates University campus, and a district with a high share of academic households. Physics HL students here often have a parent who can follow the content, which changes the tutoring brief towards exam technique and investigation design rather than first teaching.

Falaj Hazza

Established residential area west of the centre with short school runs to the nearby campuses. Afternoon slots hold well here through term, and this is one of the districts where a pre-exam intensive block in the spring is most often requested.

Al Maqam

Southern and lower density, bordering the route towards the Abu Dhabi road. Families here weigh a weekly drive to the capital for in-home tuition against an online slot, and travel time is usually what settles it rather than the hourly rate.

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Ain

Al Ain private campuses offering the Diploma or a British sixth form

These are the campuses Al Ain Diploma and senior-school students most commonly attend. They are named here as context for the city's Higher Level science provision, not as a claim of any relationship. Programme offerings change, and ADEK's own school listing is the authority on what any campus currently runs.

  • Al Ain English Speaking School
  • Brighton College Al Ain

  • Our Own English High School, Al Ain
  • The International School of Choueifat, Al Ain
  • Emirates National School, Al Ain
  • Al Dhafra Private Schools, Al Ain

Routes into Physics HL tutoring from outside the Al Ain campus set

Not every Al Ain Physics HL student is enrolled at an Al Ain campus. Some commute to the capital, some kept a Dubai place through a relocation, and some are entered as private candidates. The teaching plan changes with the route, mainly because the internal deadlines differ.

  • Abu Dhabi island campuses retained after a move inland
  • Dubai campuses kept through a relocation year
  • Home-educated candidates entered independently
  • Students moving between Al Ain campuses mid-course
  • Students repeating a series after results day

Schools named on this page are listed as context for Al Ain's Diploma and senior-school provision; no affiliation, partnership or endorsement is implied, and current programme offerings should be confirmed with the school and with ADEK.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the deadline, not just the subject

The useful first message names the school, the level, the theme causing trouble and the next internal deadline. A request that says Physics HL, Theme D, investigation draft due in five weeks gets matched to a different tutor from one that says Physics HL, DP1, predicted grade slipped.

  2. 02

Matching against the gap we can see

We match on the named theme and component rather than on general subject coverage, and we say so if the right specialist is not free at the slot you need. A Gulf Standard Time evening slot for Higher Level Physics is the most contested slot in the week, and an honest wait beats a poor match.

  3. 03

A free trial lesson, used as a diagnostic

One free trial lesson per family, with no card details taken beforehand. The tutor uses it to watch the student attempt two past-paper questions aloud, which is what separates a prerequisite gap from a command-term problem. You get a written summary of what the tutor found whether or not you continue.

  4. 04

A written plan with a finish point

After the trial you receive a plan naming the topics, the number of sessions and what will be different at the end. Block bookings for a single theme or for the investigation have an explicit end date. Open-ended weekly sessions are offered only where the problem genuinely runs across the course.

  5. 05

Weekly notes and an honest review point

Notes go to parent and student after each session. At the review point we say whether the plan is working, and if the answer is that the student needs a different tutor or that school support is now enough, we say that instead of extending the booking.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched to a theme, not to a postcode

The constraint on Higher Level Physics tutoring in Al Ain is specialist supply, not distance. Online delivery means the match is made against the HL-only topic your child is stuck on rather than against who can drive to Al Muwaiji by five o'clock on a Tuesday.

The investigation treated as 20% of the grade

Most support in this market concentrates on the papers because that is what school reports describe. The scientific investigation is a fifth of the grade, marked out of 24 across four criteria, and it is the component where the student controls the conditions. We plan it early rather than rescue it late.

Rates explained, not concealed

The AED bands on this page are market figures with the provider named, and they are not our price list. Our own pricing is quoted after the trial against the level and the number of weeks, and the comparison with in-home tutoring is set out with the travel cost shown rather than buried.

The regulator named correctly for this city

Al Ain is under ADEK, not KHDA, and the MoHRE private tuition permit is a federal requirement with a published legal basis. We state what each authority does, link the official route, and claim no accreditation from any of them.

A stated boundary on coursework

The investigation and the Extended Essay must be the student's own work. Our tutors teach, question, mark and give criterion-referenced feedback, and they produce no part of a submission. The boundary is explained to the student in the first session.

Plans that are allowed to end

A single-theme repair block runs three to five sessions and then stops. An investigation clinic is four to six hours. Saying so in advance is how a family can tell the difference between support and a subscription.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Ain: your questions answered

How many weeks of Physics HL tutoring does an Al Ain student usually need?+

It depends on which of three problems you have. A single Higher Level topic that went past too fast, such as induction or thermodynamics, is typically three to five sessions. The scientific investigation is a four-to-six-hour block spread across planning, analysis and drafting. A predicted grade that has slipped across the whole course is a term of weekly sessions, because the repair work sits earlier in the syllabus than the symptom. We say which of the three it is after the trial lesson, and block bookings for the first two carry an agreed finish point rather than rolling on.

Which parts of IB Physics are Higher Level only?+

Under the current guide the Higher Level additions sit in named sub-topics rather than being spread evenly: rigid body mechanics and Galilean and special relativity in Theme A, thermodynamics in Theme B, electromagnetic induction in Theme D, and quantum physics in Theme E, along with extended treatment of interference and the Doppler effect in Theme C. Theme C and Theme D depend heavily on the vector and energy work from Theme A, so a student who joins Higher Level late loses more than a proportional share. Confirm the exact sub-topic list against your school's own scheme of work.

Is Paper 1B worth training separately from the rest of the course?+

Yes, and it is the clearest return on tutoring hours in the final months. Paper 1B asks students to handle unfamiliar experimental data: plot it, linearise it, read a gradient as a physical quantity, propagate uncertainty, and judge whether the data support a relationship. The skill set is small and repeatable, which is why four or five focused sessions move marks. General content revision in the same hours usually moves fewer, because by the spring of DP2 content knowledge is rarely the binding constraint on a Higher Level script.

Why does my child suddenly find Theme D fields impossible?+

Almost always because Theme A was never fully secured. Fields work assumes fluent vector resolution, comfort with inverse-square relationships and the ability to track energy through a system, all taught in the first term of DP1 and all easy to get through with approximations. Theme D does not tolerate approximation. The visible wall is in fields; the actual gap is a year earlier. A diagnostic session that asks the student to attempt a Theme A question aloud usually finds it inside twenty minutes, and fixing it there is faster than re-teaching Theme D repeatedly.

What does the scientific investigation get marked out of?+

Twenty-four marks, across four criteria carrying six marks each: Research design, Data analysis, Conclusion and Evaluation. The report is capped at 3,000 words, it is marked by the school and moderated by the IB, and it carries 20% of the final grade at both Higher and Standard Level. Research design is decided before any data exists, which makes it the criterion where early help is worth most. Evaluation is the one UAE students most often lose marks on, because it needs weaknesses specific to this method rather than general statements about human error.

Can a tutor help with the Physics investigation without breaking IB rules?+

Yes, and the line is clear. A tutor can question whether the research question is answerable with school equipment, teach uncertainty propagation on separate practice data, mark the student's own draft against each criterion, and say which paragraph is failing and why. A tutor cannot supply text, build graphs that go into the report, rewrite paragraphs, or suggest a conclusion the student has not reached from their own data. The test we use with students is whether they could defend every sentence to their school supervisor unaided. If not, it should not be submitted.

Does IB Gram send a Physics tutor to our home in Al Ain?+

No. IB Gram does not offer home visits anywhere in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India. Lessons for Al Ain families are delivered online, one-to-one, over live video, timed to Gulf Standard Time. The reason is supply rather than cost: a Higher Level Physics specialist who has taught the current guide and marked investigations against the current criteria is hard to find within driving distance of any single Al Ain district, and online delivery removes distance from the matching problem entirely.

What do in-home Physics tutors in Al Ain charge compared with online?+

Market sources put in-home one-to-one tutoring in the UAE at roughly AED 180-500 an hour depending on level and tutor, with Bestimate's 2026 survey quoting AED 180-350 for general in-home work and specialist IB rates at AED 200-450 and above. Online bands sit lower for comparable qualifications, largely because no travel hour is being paid for. Those are market figures from the providers named, not an IB Gram price list; our own rate is quoted after the free trial against the level and the weeks remaining.

Is Al Ain under KHDA or a different school regulator?+

ADEK, the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain included. Dubai schools sit under KHDA, Sharjah under the Sharjah Private Education Authority, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah under the Ministry of Education. The distinction matters because inspection reports, policy circulars and staff conduct rules for an Al Ain campus come from ADEK. Any page that explains Dubai's KHDA framework to an Al Ain parent is describing the wrong regulator.

Does a Physics tutor in Al Ain need a government permit?+

Yes. The UAE private tuition work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and is administered by MoHRE. It is granted free of charge for two years, and eligible applicants include registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without a permit are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws, and no fine schedule has been published, so treat any quoted amount with scepticism. Ask any tutor to show the permit.

Can my child's own school Physics teacher tutor them privately?+

In Abu Dhabi emirate this is reported to be prohibited. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff have been reported to bar teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct has been reported to carry the same restriction. Verify the current wording against ADEK's own policy document before relying on it. The practical position for an Al Ain parent is that an offer of your child's classroom teacher for paid lessons is a question to raise with the school, not a convenience to accept quietly.

My child has eight weeks until the papers. Is it too late to start?+

Eight weeks is enough to change a paper grade and not enough to re-teach two years. The plan in that window is built from the student's own marked scripts rather than from a revision sequence: triage the themes into secure, shaky and abandoned, drill Paper 1B data analysis as a separate skill, and work command terms on Paper 2 questions that cross themes. We will tell you honestly if the realistic gain is half a grade rather than two, because buying twenty sessions on a false expectation is worse for the student than buying eight on a true one.

Will the weekly Physics slot still work through Ramadan?+

Yes, and most Al Ain families ask for it. School hours shorten during Ramadan and the useful study window moves later in the evening, so the weekly slot usually shifts rather than pausing. Keeping the same tutor across the move matters more than keeping the same hour, because a tutor who has seen a student's scripts for a term does not need to re-diagnose anything. Slots also move for school examination weeks, family travel and the days either side of the eid holidays without losing your place with that tutor.

Does Physics HL affect the Ministry of Education equivalency process?+

Equivalency is run by the Ministry of Education and no tutoring provider performs or guarantees it. For British-track students the published requirement is five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from that count, plus one Advanced Level subject at E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. No IB points threshold should be taken from a tutoring page, this one included. Confirm the IB position on moe.gov.ae or with the emirate's attestation authority before planning around it.

What happens if no Physics HL specialist is free at the slot we need?+

We say so rather than substituting a general science tutor. The Gulf Standard Time early-evening window is the most contested part of the week for Higher Level sciences, and a Physics HL match sometimes means waiting a week or taking a slightly earlier slot. Where the wait is not workable, the honest options are a different weekday, a weekend session, or starting with the component that is least tutor-specific, such as Paper 1B data technique, while the specialist slot opens up. We will tell you which applies.

Start with the deadline that is closest

If you are reading this in DP1, the thing that pays for itself is the investigation: get the research question pressure-tested before any data is collected, and the Research design marks follow. If you are reading it in the spring of DP2, bring your child's last two marked Physics scripts to the trial lesson instead of a list of topics. Tell us the school, the level, the theme that is not working and the next internal deadline, and we will match an IB DP Physics HL tutor against that rather than against a general subject request. Lessons run live online, one-to-one, timed to Gulf Standard Time, and the first one is free with no card details taken.
