Cambridge IGCSE Additional Maths 0606 Tutor in Al Ain

A Cambridge IGCSE Additional Maths 0606 tutor in Al Ain is usually wanted for one reason: a Year 11 student who handled 0580 Extended comfortably has met differentiation, logarithms and binomial series, and the ground has moved. IB Gram matches that student with a 0606 specialist and teaches one-to-one over live video, on Gulf Standard Time, scheduled around an Al Ain school run. Home visits are an India-only service for us; the UAE is online. The first lesson is a free trial.

  • One-to-one 0606 teaching over live video, never a recorded lesson library
  • Sessions set in Gulf Standard Time, after the Al Ain school run
  • Tutors mark your child's own 0606 scripts against the published mark scheme
  • Free trial lesson before any payment, and a tutor swap if the fit is wrong

IB & IGCSE in Al Ain

What a 0606 tutor in Al Ain is actually for

Additional Mathematics 0606 is the Cambridge IGCSE that families only discover once their child is already in it. A Year 11 student in an Al Ain private school sits 0580 Extended, does well, and is entered for 0606 alongside it because the maths department thinks they can carry both. Then the topic list arrives: radians instead of degrees, the factor theorem, laws of logarithms, nCr and nPr, differentiation and integration. None of it is an extension of what 0580 taught. It is new material, examined formally, in two timed papers with no coursework to cushion a bad morning.

That is the gap a Cambridge IGCSE Additional Maths 0606 tutor in Al Ain is hired to close, and it is a narrow, technical gap rather than a general confidence problem. A student who cannot differentiate a quotient is not lacking motivation. They have missed a rule, or they learned it in a crowded double period in week three of term and nobody has gone back over it since. One-to-one teaching is unusually efficient on material like this, because the diagnosis is specific and the fix is a method practised to the point of being automatic.

Al Ain is part of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, so its private schools are licensed and inspected by the Department of Education and Knowledge rather than by Dubai's KHDA. The practical consequence for your family is a smaller private-school set than Abu Dhabi island carries, and a correspondingly smaller pool of adults within driving distance who have taught 0606 to examination standard. Additional Mathematics is a minority entry in most schools. The teacher who covers it may be the only person on campus who does.

IB Gram teaches UAE students one-to-one over live video. We do not send tutors to homes anywhere in the UAE; in-home visiting is a service we run only in India. On a subject this specialised that is the point rather than a compromise. An Al Ain family gets the person who has taught 0606 for years and marks to the scheme, instead of whoever happens to live twenty minutes away and is willing to try. Lessons are set in Gulf Standard Time and fitted around the school run, prayer times and the mock calendar your child's school actually uses.

The pages that rank for this query tend to stop at a subject list and a contact form. This one does the opposite. Below you will find the 0606 topic areas mapped to where marks go missing, a straight comparison with 0580 Extended, the Cambridge calendar counted backwards from a published set of key dates, and what the Al Ain market charges per hour with every figure attributed to whoever published it. If you read nothing else, read the calendar section: entry deadlines sit months before the paper, and that is the single most expensive thing for a family to learn late.

At a glance

  • 0606 is examined in two written papers, 80 marks and two hours each, with no coursework component
  • Radians, not degrees, are the working unit across circular measure and trigonometry
  • Differentiation and integration are examined formally, which 0580 Extended never asks for
  • Al Ain private schools answer to ADEK, the Abu Dhabi emirate regulator, not to KHDA
  • Teaching is one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; we run no UAE home visits
  • A free trial lesson comes first, and the tutor can be changed if the match is wrong

Most families arriving on this page are inside Cambridge IGCSE, but the reason 0606 was chosen usually sits one stage further on. These are the programmes our Al Ain students are working within, and what Additional Mathematics does for each of them.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

The two-year Cambridge IGCSE course, assessed entirely by terminal written papers in most subjects. Additional Mathematics 0606 sits alongside Mathematics 0580 at Extended tier rather than replacing it, and both grades appear separately on the statement of results. The entry decision is made by the school's maths department, usually in Year 10 or early Year 11.

In Al Ain the Cambridge entry is concentrated in a handful of British-curriculum and mixed-curriculum campuses, all licensed by ADEK. Because Additional Mathematics is a minority entry, two children in the same year group at the same school can be on different pathways, and a parent often finds out that 0606 is coming only when the first topic test comes home.

A-LEVELAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level

AS and A Level Mathematics 9709 opens with Pure Mathematics 1: quadratics, functions, coordinate geometry, circular measure, trigonometry, series, differentiation and integration. A student who has genuinely absorbed 0606 meets most of that list for the second time rather than the first, which is why maths departments recommend it.

Al Ain sixth forms are fewer in number than the city's IGCSE provision, so some families look at Abu Dhabi campuses or an online sixth form for Year 12. Carrying 0606 into that transition matters more when the Year 12 school is new to your child, because the maths teacher will not know what was covered in Year 11 and will assume the 0580 baseline.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level is the IB route that overlaps with 0606. Calculus, functions, sequences and series and the binomial theorem all reappear, assessed across three papers plus an Internal Assessment exploration that the student researches and writes themselves.

Several Al Ain families move from a Cambridge Year 11 into an IB Diploma Year 12, sometimes at a different campus in Al Ain and sometimes in Abu Dhabi. That jump is where 0606 earns its keep: students arriving at Analysis and Approaches Higher Level without any prior calculus spend the first term catching up on technique while also learning IB command terms and the exploration process.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

IB Middle Years Programme

The Middle Years Programme assesses mathematics against four criteria rather than by a single examination grade, with extended and standard mathematics streams in the final two years. Students finishing MYP extended mathematics and moving into a Cambridge pathway often meet 0606 content with strong reasoning habits but thinner procedural fluency.

Al Ain has campuses running MYP as well as Cambridge, and families occasionally transfer between them mid-secondary. A student who moves from MYP into a Cambridge Year 11 that already has 0606 under way needs a short, targeted bridge rather than a general maths course, and that bridge is almost always indices, surds and algebraic fractions first.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

0606 is rarely the only thing on a Year 11 timetable that needs attention. These are the Cambridge subjects our Al Ain students most often pair with Additional Mathematics, with what each one actually assesses.

Additional Mathematics (0606)

Single tier

Two written papers, 80 marks and two hours each, both drawing on the whole syllabus. Functions, quadratics, indices and surds, polynomials, simultaneous equations, logarithmic and exponential functions, straight-line graphs, circular measure, trigonometry, counting, series, vectors and calculus. No part of the course can be dropped before the exam.

Mathematics (0580)

Core and Extended

The main Cambridge IGCSE maths entry. Extended tier is the prerequisite in practice for 0606, because 0606 assumes fluent algebraic manipulation from the first lesson. Students who are still losing marks on algebraic fractions and indices in 0580 are better served by fixing that before adding Additional Mathematics work.

International Mathematics (0607)

Core and Extended

The graphics-calculator variant of Cambridge IGCSE maths, with an investigation-style paper and a modelling paper. Schools that run 0607 rather than 0580 sometimes still enter strong candidates for 0606, which creates an odd mix of calculator-rich and calculator-light habits that is worth unpicking early.

Physics (0625)

Core and Extended

The science most helped by 0606. Kinematics, graphs of motion, and rearranging formulae all become easier once a student differentiates comfortably and reads gradient and area questions as calculus rather than as geometry. Extended tier adds a practical paper, assessed either as Paper 5 or the alternative-to-practical Paper 6.

Chemistry (0620)

Core and Extended

Mole calculations, titration arithmetic and rate-of-reaction graph work are where a strong 0606 student pulls ahead. Chemistry marks are usually lost on method and unit presentation rather than on recall, which is the same failure mode 0606 Paper 2 punishes in longer structured questions.

Computer Science (0478)

Single tier

Paper 1 covers data representation, networks, hardware and security; Paper 2 covers algorithms, programming and logic. Binary and hexadecimal conversion, truth tables and iteration all reward the same procedural precision that 0606 demands, and a student strong in one is usually fixable in the other.

Economics (0455)

Single tier

Two papers, one multiple-choice and one structured with a data-response section. The calculation content is light compared with 0606, but the graph-reading discipline transfers directly: read the axes, state the units, and answer the command word rather than describing the diagram.

English as a First Language (0500)

Single tier

Paper 1 reading and Paper 2 directed writing and composition. Strong mathematicians often arrive here with the thinnest margin in their subject set, because the paper rewards structured argument under time pressure rather than correct answers, and nothing in the 0606 toolkit helps.

Biology (0610)

Core and Extended

Mostly recall and application, with magnification calculations and graph interpretation as the quantitative content. Students carrying 0606 alongside three sciences are the ones most at risk of running out of revision time, so sequencing across subjects matters as much as teaching within one.

AS and A Level Mathematics (9709)

AS and A Level

Pure Mathematics 1 revisits quadratics, functions, coordinate geometry, circular measure, trigonometry, series and introductory calculus. Al Ain students who move straight from 0606 into 9709 in Year 12 usually find the first term familiar; those who skipped 0606 spend it learning technique and content at the same time.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Additional Mathematics rewards short, frequent, technical practice more than long sessions. These are the formats Al Ain families use, and the one we recommend depends on how many weeks are left before the series.

Weekly one-to-one over live video

A single fixed slot each week, one student and one tutor, on a shared whiteboard where both of you can write. This is the default for a Year 11 running 0606 alongside 0580 from the start of the year, because it tracks the school's teaching order rather than fighting it.

  • One fixed weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time, agreed around the school run
  • Shared digital whiteboard, so working is written out rather than described
  • Short diagnostic task before each session, set from the previous week's errors
  • A written note after each lesson saying what was covered and what to practise

Twice-weekly technique blocks

Two shorter sessions in a week, used when a single topic area is the problem. Calculus is the usual reason: differentiation rules need to be practised across several days to become automatic, and one long weekly lesson leaves six days for the method to fade.

  • Two slots of 45 to 60 minutes rather than one long lesson
  • One topic area per fortnight, drilled until the method is reliable under time
  • Mixed-topic retrieval questions at the start of every session
  • Suited to the stretch between a January mock and a May or June series

Marked-paper cycle

Your child sits a past paper to time at home, sends the script, and the tutor marks it against the published mark scheme before the lesson. The session is then spent on the specific marks that were lost rather than on re-teaching the topics that were already secure.

  • Your child's own script, marked question by question against the scheme
  • A short error log carried forward so the same slip is not repeated
  • Timing data per question, which is usually the hidden problem in Paper 2
  • Used most heavily in the final six weeks before the papers

Pre-series intensive

A compressed block of sessions in the weeks immediately before the exam window, built around whole-syllabus coverage rather than individual topics. This is the honest option for a family arriving late, and we will say plainly when there are not enough weeks left for it to do much.

  • Breadth-first revision, because both 0606 papers can ask anything
  • Two or three sessions a week during a school holiday block
  • Timed sections rather than whole papers, to keep the feedback loop short
  • Scheduled around Ramadan or exam-leave dates where those apply

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Ain

01

What the search for a 0606 tutor in Al Ain is really asking

  • Diagnose the topic area first, not the subject
  • Count the weeks to the series before choosing a plan
  • 0580 Extended fluency is the real prerequisite for 0606 progress
  • Online delivery exists here to widen the tutor pool, not to cut the price

A parent typing this query has almost always had the same conversation at home. The maths that used to be straightforward has stopped being straightforward, and the child cannot explain why. The answer is nearly always structural: Additional Mathematics 0606 is not a harder version of 0580, it is a different syllabus with new content, and the first weeks of it depend on algebra fluency that a comfortable 0580 Extended student may have been getting away with rather than owning.

So the useful question is not whether your child needs a maths tutor. It is which of the fourteen 0606 topic areas is actually broken, whether the cause is content never taught or technique never practised, and how many weeks remain before the series the school has entered them for. Those three answers produce completely different plans. A student eight months out needs a teaching sequence that runs alongside school. A student eight weeks out needs breadth-first revision and timed sections, and should stop trying to master every topic.

The second half of the query matters too. Al Ain is a smaller private-school market than Abu Dhabi island or Dubai, and Additional Mathematics is a minority entry inside it. The number of adults within a reasonable drive who have taught 0606 to examination standard is genuinely small. That is why we teach this subject one-to-one over live video rather than by sending anyone to a UAE address: the constraint on quality here is the size of the local pool, and online delivery removes that constraint entirely while keeping the lesson live, interactive and scheduled on Gulf Standard Time.

02

The 0606 syllabus, topic area by topic area

Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics is assessed in two written papers of two hours and 80 marks each, and both papers can draw on any part of the syllabus. There is no coursework, no practical and no optional topic. That single design fact drives everything about how the course should be revised: nothing can be safely dropped, so a revision plan that goes deep on three topics and ignores the rest is a gamble rather than a strategy.

The content splits into four families. There is the algebra extension work, which builds on 0580 Extended: functions with formal domain and range, quadratics and the discriminant, indices and surds, the factor theorem for polynomials, simultaneous equations with one non-linear equation. There is the analytic work: logarithmic and exponential functions, straight-line graphs used to linearise relationships. There is the geometry and trigonometry block, taught in radians throughout, with arc length, sector area, identities and general solutions. And there is calculus, which is new to the student and carries the heaviest teaching load.

The table below maps each family to what it adds beyond 0580, when Al Ain schools typically first teach it, and the error that most often costs marks. The syllabus version your child's school is following matters, because Cambridge revises syllabuses on a cycle and the document for your series is the one that governs the paper. The current syllabus, the specimen papers and the calculator and formula-list rules are all published on cambridgeinternational.org, and the school's exams officer can confirm which version applies to your child's entry.

0580 Extended against 0606: same student, different exam

Families often assume Additional Mathematics is the top end of the same course. It is not. Both qualifications appear separately on the statement of results, both are examined in their own papers, and a child can do well in one and badly in the other. Understanding where the two diverge is what stops a tutoring plan from being spent in the wrong place, which in practice means spending it on algebra that was already fine rather than on the calculus that was not.

The honest test of readiness is 0580 Extended algebra under time pressure. A student who can simplify algebraic fractions, manipulate indices, rearrange a formula with the subject appearing twice and solve a quadratic three different ways is ready for 0606 content. A student who can do those things slowly, with prompting, is not yet ready, and adding 0606 work on top will usually damage both grades. We say this at the trial lesson when it is what the diagnostic shows, because the alternative is a family paying for months of the wrong teaching.

The comparison below is the one we walk Al Ain parents through at the start. It also answers the question maths departments get asked every year: should a borderline candidate be entered for Additional Mathematics at all? The qualification is useful, particularly as preparation for AS Pure Mathematics 1 or for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, but a weak 0606 grade earned at the cost of a strong 0580 grade is a poor trade, and no tutor can promise a grade in either.

Calculus from a standing start, and the weeks it really takes

  • Practise rule selection before rule application, across days rather than hours
  • Layer contexts one at a time: tangents, then stationary points, then rates, then kinematics
  • Treat the constant of integration as a separate habit to be trained
  • Late starters should chase reliable marks first and accept incomplete coverage

Calculus is where 0606 is won and lost, and it behaves differently from every other topic on the course. Algebra and trigonometry can be improved by revision, because the student has met the ideas before and is sharpening them. Differentiation is genuinely new. A student is being asked to accept a definition, learn three rules, recognise which rule a question needs, and then apply it inside a context such as a stationary point, a tangent, a rate of change or a kinematics problem. Each of those layers fails separately.

What that means in a teaching plan is sequence and spacing rather than volume. The rules have to be practised across several days until selecting the right one stops being a decision. Then the contexts are layered one at a time: tangents and normals, then increasing and decreasing functions, then stationary points and their nature, then connected rates, then kinematics where the language changes but the mathematics does not. Integration follows the same pattern, with the constant of integration and definite-integral limits as the two reliable sources of lost marks.

The realistic timescale is the thing families most want and least often get told straight. For a student meeting differentiation for the first time with a competent algebra base, the rules and the standard contexts take several weeks of regular work rather than a single intensive weekend, and integration adds more on top. A plan that starts in the autumn term can afford to teach this properly alongside school. A plan that starts six weeks before the papers cannot, and should instead secure the marks that are reliably available: the algebra families, radians, series and the standard differentiation questions that appear in almost every paper.

05

ADEK, your child's school, and who actually decides the 0606 entry

Al Ain sits in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, so its private schools come under the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Dubai's KHDA has no role here, and a family moving from Dubai to Al Ain is changing regulator as well as city. Sharjah has its own authority, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah sit with the federal Ministry of Education. The regulator map for UAE private schools is published on u.ae.

What the regulator does not do is choose your child's subjects. The entry for Additional Mathematics is a school decision, made by the maths department and executed by the exams officer, and it is the school that submits entries to Cambridge and submits forecast grades. If you want to know whether your child is entered for 0606, which syllabus version applies and which series they are sitting, the exams officer is the person who can tell you, and the statement of entry is the document that confirms it. Ask for both in writing.

There is one regulatory point that does bear directly on tutoring. Private tuition in the UAE runs on a permit: the private tutor work permit was introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and, per u.ae, is granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including teachers registered in government or private schools, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Individuals tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules for school staff also bar teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, so asking your child's own teacher for private lessons is not the shortcut it appears to be.

06

The Cambridge calendar, counted backwards from the paper

Cambridge runs its IGCSE examinations in a June series and a November series, and for an Al Ain centre those are the only two on offer; the additional series examined in February and March is an entry route for India, so its published key dates are not your child's calendar however often they are quoted. Nobody on this search results page tells parents how far ahead the administrative deadlines sit, and that is the most expensive thing to learn late. The entry deadline falls months before the paper, forecast grades are submitted by the centre, and results reach the school before they reach the candidate.

There is a second mechanism that catches families out. Every Cambridge centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge is explicit that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, stating that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. A timetable found through a search engine may belong to a different zone. The version that matters is the one your child's own centre issues, and it should be checked against the statement of entry.

The table below sets out the June series as a sequence rather than as a list of dates, because Cambridge publishes exact dates series by series and the ones that actually govern your entry come to you through the exams officer. Read it as a shape: the November series runs the same sequence on its own dates, which is what makes November a usable second attempt at 0606 rather than a different qualification. Pearson publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series too, so a family with one child on Cambridge and one on Edexcel is tracking two calendars that do not line up.

What 0606 support costs in the Al Ain market

Most pages competing for this query publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars. Al Ain parents transact in dirhams, so here are the published figures with the source attached to each one. These are market rates, not IB Gram's price list. Our own model starts with a free trial lesson and a conversation about how many weeks are left, because the right number of sessions for a student eight months out and one eight weeks out are not comparable.

The pattern across the market is consistent. Budget online tutoring sits well below AED 150 an hour and generally buys homework supervision rather than syllabus expertise, which on a subject like 0606 is a real distinction: an undergraduate can check an answer without being able to diagnose why rule selection keeps failing. Qualified subject teaching online clusters between AED 150 and AED 300. In-home visiting rates carry the travel, which is why the published bands sit higher. Specialist IGCSE and A-Level rates run from around AED 200 upwards, and premium named tutors are quoted considerably higher again.

Monthly packages appear in the market too. Published examples include around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four two-hour in-home sessions, and Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly one-hour session run roughly AED 240 to 600 at budget level, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000 to 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Set that against school fees for context: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that private school fees in Dubai would not rise for 2026-27, and Abu Dhabi fee decisions sit with ADEK. Tutoring is an addition to a bill that is already significant, which is a reason to buy fewer, better-targeted hours.

Why a 0606 specialist is rarely within driving distance of Al Ain

  • The binding constraint on a minority syllabus is tutor supply, not price
  • In-home rates include travel time, which is why the published bands sit higher
  • Online delivery keeps the lesson live and widens the pool to anyone qualified
  • A quiet room and a working headset matter more than the household's internet speed

Additional Mathematics is a minority entry in most schools, which makes the supply problem arithmetic rather than opinion. A city with a modest private-school set has a modest number of maths teachers, and only a fraction of them have taught 0606 to examination standard in recent years. Add the constraint that the tutor must be free in the same two-hour evening window your child is free, and the pool of people who can both teach this syllabus and reach an Al Ain address shrinks to something very small indeed.

In-home tutoring answers a real question and families are right to ask it. A visiting tutor needs no technology, holds a child's attention in a way some screens do not, and removes the parental job of policing a laptop. The published market rates reflect that, and the travel time is inside the price. What the model cannot do in a city like Al Ain is widen the pool: you are choosing from the people who can physically get to you on a Tuesday evening, which on a minority syllabus is not really a choice at all.

IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE. Tutoring for UAE families is delivered one-to-one over live video, and in-home visiting is a service we run only in India. On this subject that trade is favourable rather than neutral: the lesson is still live, the tutor still writes on a shared whiteboard with your child, scripts are still marked against the published scheme, and the person teaching is chosen for having taught 0606 rather than for living nearby. The honest limitation is that a child who will not engage with a screen, or who has no quiet room available, is a poor fit for the format, and the trial lesson is there to find that out before anyone pays.

09

What 0606 is a bridge to, including from Al Ain

Additional Mathematics is rarely taken for its own sake. It is taken because of what comes next, and being clear about the destination changes what the final term should prioritise. For a student heading into Cambridge AS Mathematics 9709, the overlap with Pure Mathematics 1 is substantial: quadratics, functions, coordinate geometry, circular measure, trigonometry, series and introductory calculus all reappear. Covering those topics properly in Year 11 is a genuine head start, and the Year 12 teacher will not know which ones were rushed.

For a student moving into the IB Diploma, the comparable route is Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level, where calculus, functions and the binomial theorem return alongside an Internal Assessment exploration. Students arrive at that course from very different starting points, and the ones who have met differentiation before spend their first term learning IB command terms and the exploration process rather than learning calculus from scratch. The exploration itself has to be the student's own work: a tutor teaches the mathematics, questions the reasoning and gives feedback on drafts the student has written, and does not author any part of an assessed piece.

For a student staying in the UAE for university, the relevant paperwork is Ministry of Education equivalency rather than the mathematics. The sourced British-track requirement is five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates at a grade no lower than E or grade 3, with Arabic and Islamic education not counted among the five, plus one accredited Advanced Level subject at a grade no lower than E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. One ranking competitor publishes a six-subject figure, which is wrong. No IB points threshold should be quoted without reading it on moe.gov.ae, and United Arab Emirates University, whose main campus is in Al Ain, publishes its own admission requirements that families should check directly rather than take from a tutoring page.

Where we tutor

Al Ain districts our 0606 students log in from

Al Ain is spread out, and the drive home shapes when a two-hour calculus session can realistically start. These are the districts our students log in from, with the scheduling reality in each.

Al Jimi

A long-established residential district with a mix of villas and apartments. Families here usually finish the school run in the late afternoon, so 0606 sessions tend to be booked from 18:00 Gulf Standard Time onwards. A desk and a quiet door matter more than the size of the room.

Al Mutaredh

Close to the older centre of the city and to the Al Ain oasis side. Students in this area often have shorter journeys home, which makes a 17:00 start workable on two weekdays and leaves the later slot free for timed-paper practice at the weekend.

Falaj Hazza

A dense residential pocket where several families book sibling sessions back to back. Where two children in one household need different subjects, we stagger the slots so the same quiet room is used twice rather than two rooms being needed at once.

Asharej

Near the university quarter, and the district where we see the most Year 11 students already thinking about Year 12 maths. A 0606 plan here is often written with AS Pure Mathematics 1 in mind, which changes what gets prioritised in the final term.

Zakher

On the southern edge of the city, with longer drives to and from the main school cluster. Sessions from this district usually start after 18:30, and families often prefer a single two-hour block at the weekend rather than two shorter weekday lessons.

Al Muwaiji

West of the centre, with a spread of villa compounds. Connection quality varies between compounds more than it varies between districts, so we ask new families to run the trial lesson from the room they intend to use rather than from the most convenient one.

Al Towayya

A residential district where after-school activity schedules are often the binding constraint rather than the drive home. Where sport or Arabic tuition occupies two evenings, a 0606 plan compresses into one weekday session plus a marked paper returned over the weekend.

Hili

In the north of the city, close to the Hili area's parks and archaeological site. Students here commonly travel further to campus, and the practical effect on 0606 is that weekday sessions run late enough that the second hour is better spent on marking review than new calculus.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Al Ain

Al Ain campuses with a Cambridge IGCSE maths entry

These are the Al Ain IGCSE schools our Cambridge students most often attend. All are licensed and inspected by ADEK as private schools in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Whether a given campus enters candidates for 0606 in a particular year is a decision for its maths department, and worth asking directly.

  • Al Ain English Speaking School
  • Al Dhafra Private Schools
  • The International School of Choueifat, Al Ain
  • Our Own English High School, Al Ain
  • Bright Riders School, Al Ain
  • Al Ain Juniors School

Al Ain campuses on an IB or mixed pathway

Students from these campuses reach us either because they are moving into a Cambridge Year 11 or because they are leaving one for an IB Diploma Year 12. Both transitions change what Additional Mathematics is being used for, and the teaching plan should say which it is.

  • Brighton College Al Ain
  • Al Ain Academy
  • Emirates National School, Al Ain
  • Liwa International School

School names appear here as context for the Al Ain education ecosystem. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation to, endorsement from, or partnership with any school, group or regulator named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

Tell us the topic, not just the subject

Send the mock mark, the topic test that went badly, and the series your child is entered for. A message that says calculus and logarithms are the problem gets a better match than one that says maths, because 0606 specialists differ in what they teach best.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson with a 0606 diagnostic

The first lesson costs nothing and is spent finding out what is actually broken. The tutor works through a short set of questions spanning algebra fluency, radians, series and differentiation, and tells you which of the fourteen topic families need hours and which do not.

  3. 03

A written plan with the weeks counted

After the trial you get a plan that states the number of weeks to the series, the order topics will be taught in, and what gets left out if the time is short. Where there are too few weeks left to cover the syllabus, the plan says so rather than implying otherwise.

  4. 04

    Weekly teaching with marked scripts

Sessions run in your agreed Gulf Standard Time slot. Your child sits questions to time between lessons, sends the script, and the tutor marks it against the published mark scheme so the session is spent on lost marks rather than on re-teaching secure topics.

  5. 05

    Review before the entry deadline

Before the centre's entry deadline we review progress with you, because that is the point at which the 0606 entry decision is still practically reversible. If the evidence says the entry is a poor trade against the 0580 grade, we will say that plainly.

  6. 06

Change the tutor if the fit is wrong

A technical subject needs a teacher whose explanations land with your particular child. If the first match does not, say so after any lesson and we will move you. There is no penalty for changing tutors and no requirement to explain the reason at length.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The tutor is chosen for 0606, not for proximity

Because teaching is one-to-one over live video, the pool is everyone qualified to teach Additional Mathematics rather than everyone who can drive to your district on a Tuesday. On a minority syllabus in a city the size of Al Ain, that difference is the whole argument.

Marking against the published scheme

Your child's own scripts are marked question by question against the mark scheme, with the lost marks named. That is a different activity from being told an answer is wrong, and it is where most of the improvement on a written-paper-only subject comes from.

Scheduling that survives an Al Ain school week

Slots are set in Gulf Standard Time around the school run, activity evenings and prayer times, and can move to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan. A plan that ignores the actual week is a plan that quietly stops being followed by November.

Honest answers about the calendar

We will tell you how many weeks are left, what can realistically be covered in them, and when the answer is that the entry deadline has passed and the plan must change. Cambridge's own published dates are cited rather than paraphrased.

Clear academic-honesty boundaries

A tutor teaches the mathematics, reviews work the student has produced and gives feedback on it. Assessed work, including an IB exploration or any coursework folder in another subject, stays the student's own from first draft to submission, and we say so in writing.

No invented numbers

Every AED figure on this page is attributed to whoever published it, and every regulatory statement cites the authority it came from. IB Gram holds no accreditation from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or the IB, and makes no claim to any.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Ain: your questions answered

Does my child's school in Al Ain enter candidates for 0606 at all?+

That is a decision for the school's maths department, and it varies by campus and by year group. Additional Mathematics is a minority entry almost everywhere, so some Al Ain schools run it as a class, some offer it to a handful of strong candidates, and some do not enter anyone. The exams officer can confirm whether your child has an entry, which syllabus version applies and which series they are sitting. Ask for the statement of entry in writing, because that document is what actually proves the entry exists rather than a verbal assurance from a subject teacher.

Is 0606 worth adding if the plan is a UAE university rather than a UK one?+

For Ministry of Education equivalency the sourced British-track rule counts five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no lower than grade E or 3, with Arabic and Islamic education excluded from the five, plus one Advanced Level subject at E or two Advanced Subsidiary subjects at the same grade. Additional Mathematics can sit inside that count, but it is not required. Its real value is preparation for AS Pure Mathematics 1 or for Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. Check admission requirements on the university's own pages, including United Arab Emirates University in Al Ain, rather than taking them from any tutoring site.

Which radians mistake costs Al Ain candidates the most marks?+

Working in degrees when the question is set in radians, and the version of it that is harder to spot: using a calculator left in degree mode for a trigonometric equation whose solutions are expected in radians. The arithmetic looks reasonable and the answer is wrong, so the whole question is lost rather than part of it. The fix is a habit rather than a concept. We train students to check the calculator mode as the first physical action on any trigonometry or circular-measure question, and to state the unit in the answer line so the error becomes visible to them.

How many hours a week does an Al Ain Year 11 need for 0606 alongside 0580?+

It depends on how much calculus remains untaught and how many weeks are left, so any single number quoted without those facts is marketing. In practice, a student starting in the autumn term with solid Extended algebra tends to do well on one weekly session plus questions set between lessons. A student meeting differentiation for the first time in the second term usually needs two shorter sessions a week for a block, because rule selection has to be practised across days rather than in one sitting. We give you the number after the free trial diagnostic, not before it.

My son is strong at algebra but lost on differentiation. Where would a tutor start?+

With rule selection rather than with rule application. Most students in that position can differentiate a simple polynomial and then stall on deciding whether a given expression needs the product, quotient or chain rule, which is a recognition problem rather than a technique problem. The first sessions are spent on mixed sets where the only task is naming the rule, before any differentiating happens. Once selection is automatic, contexts are layered one at a time: tangents and normals, then stationary points and their nature, then connected rates of change, then kinematics where the language changes but the mathematics does not.

Can a 0606 lesson run after the Al Ain school run on a weekday evening?+

Yes, and for most families that is the only slot that works. Sessions are set in Gulf Standard Time, and students in outer districts such as Zakher or Hili typically start from 18:30 once the drive home and a meal are accounted for, while families closer to the centre often manage 17:00. Two shorter weekday sessions frequently work better than one long evening block, because concentration on technical material falls away quickly after a full school day. During Ramadan slots can move to post-Iftar timing, and we agree that change before the month starts rather than during it.

What does the statement of entry tell me that the school report does not?+

It tells you what Cambridge has actually been told. The statement of entry lists the syllabus codes your child is entered for, the components within each one, the series, and the candidate and centre numbers. A school report tells you how a teacher judges progress; the statement of entry tells you which papers will physically be sat. Families discover mismatches this way every year, including a child assumed to be entered for Additional Mathematics who is not, or entered at a tier nobody discussed. Check it against your child's timetable version as soon as it is issued.

Does 0606 include any coursework or a practical component?+

No. Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics is assessed entirely by two written papers of two hours and 80 marks each, and both can draw on any part of the syllabus. There is nothing submitted during the course and no practical examination. Two consequences follow for revision. First, no topic can be safely dropped, so a plan that goes deep on a few areas and ignores the rest is a gamble. Second, the only realistic training for the assessment is timed written practice marked against the published scheme, which is why our sessions are built around your child's own marked scripts.

Which Cambridge zone timetable applies to a centre in Al Ain?+

Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones and is explicit that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, stating that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong one. The zone belongs to the centre, not to the city, so the only reliable answer is the timetable your child's own school issues. A timetable found through a search engine may belong to a different zone entirely. Check the version you hold against the statement of entry, and ask the exams officer if the two do not match.

What should the first three 0606 sessions actually produce?+

A written diagnosis naming which of the topic families are secure and which are not, a teaching order for the weeks available, and at least one piece of evidence your child can see. In practice the third session usually ends with a marked set of questions on the first target topic, showing marks recovered on something that was being lost before. If after three sessions you cannot say what the plan is and what has changed, something is wrong with the match rather than with your child, and the right move is to change tutors.

Does ADEK decide what my child studies in Additional Mathematics?+

No. The Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, including Al Ain, and inspects them. The content of Additional Mathematics is set by Cambridge in the published syllabus, and the entry decision belongs to the school. Where ADEK does matter to you is in school licensing, inspection outcomes and the professional-conduct rules that apply to school staff, including the rule barring teachers from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school. The regulator map for UAE private schools is published on u.ae.

We are moving from Al Ain mid-year. Can the same 0606 tutor continue?+

Yes, and this is one of the clearer advantages of teaching over live video. A move to Abu Dhabi, to another emirate or out of the UAE does not change the tutor, the plan or the marked-script cycle, although the slot may need to shift if the time zone changes. What does change is the school context: a new centre may sit in a different Cambridge administrative zone, may follow a different teaching order, and may have already passed internal deadlines your child has not met. Send us the new school's timetable and mock dates as soon as you have them.

Is 0606 good preparation for IB Maths Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level?+

It is useful preparation rather than a prerequisite. Calculus, functions, sequences and series and the binomial theorem all reappear in Analysis and Approaches, so a student who met differentiation in Year 11 spends their first Diploma term learning IB command terms, the paper structures and the exploration process instead of learning calculus from scratch. The gap that remains is style rather than content: the IB asks for justification and interpretation in ways Cambridge papers often do not. A short bridging block over the summer between Year 11 and Year 12 handles that more cheaply than catching up in October.

What does a specialist 0606 tutor charge per hour in this market?+

Published market figures put qualified online subject tutoring at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour, IGCSE and A-Level specialists from about AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's rate table giving 200 to 450 and above, and premium named tutors quoted considerably higher. In-home visiting rates run higher again because travel sits inside them. Those are other people's published numbers, cited here so you can compare. IB Gram's own arrangement starts with a free trial lesson and a conversation about how many weeks are left before your child's series.

What happens if no 0606 specialist is free in the slot we need?+

We tell you, rather than filling the slot with a general maths tutor and hoping. Additional Mathematics is a minority entry and the pool of people who have taught it to examination standard is genuinely small, so a specific evening window sometimes cannot be matched immediately. The options we put in front of you are a different time slot with the right specialist, a short wait with a date attached, or starting on 0580 Extended algebra foundations with a generalist while the specialist slot opens. Which of those is sensible depends entirely on how many weeks remain before the series.

Start with the trial lesson and the topic list

If your child is entered for Cambridge IGCSE Additional Mathematics and the ground has shifted, the useful first step is small: send the mock mark, the topic that went wrong, and the series the school has entered them for. The free trial lesson is spent on a diagnostic across algebra fluency, radians, series and calculus, and you finish it knowing which topic families need hours and which do not. Teaching then runs one-to-one over live video in a Gulf Standard Time slot that fits an Al Ain school week. No tutor can promise a grade, but a plan with the weeks counted and the marks named is a great deal better than another term of hoping it settles.
