Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 Tutor in Al Ain

Before you hire a Cambridge IGCSE Physics 0625 tutor in Al Ain, there are four options worth weighing: the school's own clinic, a group class at a tuition centre, a visiting tutor who can reach your district, and a one-to-one online specialist. This page compares them honestly, with published AED rates attached. IB Gram is the fourth of those. We teach one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time; home visits are an India-only service for us, and the first lesson is a free trial.

  • Paper-by-paper diagnosis across 0625 Papers 1 to 6, not a general science review
  • Your child's own scripts marked against the published Cambridge mark scheme
  • Evening slots in Gulf Standard Time, movable to post-Iftar during Ramadan
  • Free trial lesson first, with a tutor swap at any point and no explanation needed

IB & IGCSE in Al Ain

Four options, one decision

Parents in Al Ain searching for physics help are rarely choosing between a tutor and nothing. They are choosing between four things that all sound reasonable. The school runs a revision clinic after lessons, free. A tuition centre offers a small group class at a lower hourly rate than one-to-one. A visiting tutor can come to the district, with travel inside the price. And an online specialist teaches one-to-one over live video from wherever they happen to be. Each of those fixes a different problem, and three of them are wrong for most of the students who end up with us.

The school clinic is the right first move and almost nobody tries it properly. It is free, it is run by someone who knows the teaching order your child has actually experienced, and it is often attended by two students rather than twenty. What it cannot do is diagnose. A clinic answers the questions a student brings, which assumes the student knows which part of electricity they do not understand. Most do not. They know the mock came back at 48 per cent and the questions on circuits felt impossible.

A group class at a centre is cheaper per hour and genuinely useful when the gap is content coverage: a class that has not finished nuclear physics by February benefits from being taught nuclear physics. It is poor value when the gap is technique, because the marks a student is losing on command words, unit prefixes and graph-gradient work are personal to them. Six students in a room lose marks in six different ways, and a group lesson can only address the average of those.

The visiting tutor answers a real need and the published market rates reflect the travel inside them. The problem in Al Ain is supply rather than price. The city's private-school set is smaller than Abu Dhabi island's, and Extended physics taught to examination standard is a narrower specialism than general science. Choosing from the people who can physically reach Zakher or Al Muwaiji at 18:30 on a Tuesday is not much of a choice. IB Gram does not sell home visits in the UAE; in-home tutoring is a service we run only in India, and on this subject that trade is favourable.

What follows is the comparison, with numbers. You will find the full 0625 assessment structure with every weighting, a straight comparison of Cambridge 0625 against the three qualifications families most often confuse it with, the six topic areas mapped to the marks they cost, how practical assessment works when the teaching happens on a screen, and what each of the four options charges with every AED figure attributed to whoever published it. Read the paper-weighting table first. A surprising number of families are revising hard for the component that carries the smallest share of the grade.

At a glance

  • Try the school clinic first; it is free and it knows your child's teaching order
  • Group classes fix missing content, not personal mark-losing habits
  • Visiting tutors cost more because travel is inside the rate, and the Al Ain pool is small
  • The theory paper carries half the grade; the practical component carries a fifth
  • IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video and runs no UAE home visits
IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Physics 0625 sits inside a longer pathway, and the option a family should pick depends on where the student is heading after Year 11. These are the programmes our Al Ain physics students work within.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

A two-year course examined by terminal written papers. Physics 0625 is tiered: Core candidates sit Papers 1 and 3, Extended candidates sit Papers 2 and 4, and every candidate sits either the Paper 5 practical test or the Paper 6 alternative to practical. The tier and the practical route are both centre decisions recorded on the statement of entry.

In Al Ain the Cambridge science entry is concentrated in a handful of British-curriculum and mixed-curriculum campuses under ADEK licensing. Because separate sciences and combined awards sit side by side in the same year groups, two children at the same Al Ain school can be on genuinely different physics courses, and the first thing worth checking is which syllabus code is on the statement of entry.

A-LEVELAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level

AS and A Level Physics 9702 builds directly on 0625 Extended, with practical skills assessed in their own papers and a step change in the mathematics expected. Students who reach AS without secure graph-gradient work, unit prefixes and rearrangement of formulae spend the first term repairing Year 11 habits.

Al Ain has fewer sixth-form science cohorts than Abu Dhabi island, so some families look at an Abu Dhabi campus or an online sixth form for Year 12 physics. That makes the quality of the 0625 Extended foundation matter more than usual, because a new Year 12 teacher will assume the syllabus was covered and will not know which topics were rushed in the final term.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

IB Diploma Programme

IB Physics at Standard or Higher Level reuses much of the 0625 content and changes the demand: command terms are precise, uncertainty treatment is formal, and an Internal Assessment investigation is researched, carried out and written by the student. Paper 3 at Higher Level rewards exactly the experimental reasoning Paper 6 trains.

Several Al Ain families move from a Cambridge Year 11 into an IB Diploma Year 12, sometimes at a campus in Al Ain and sometimes in the capital. Students who sat Paper 6 rather than Paper 5 often arrive with thinner hands-on experience, which shows up first in the Internal Assessment rather than in the written papers.

O-LEVELAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge O Level

Cambridge O Level Physics is still taught in some UAE schools and is a different qualification from IGCSE, with its own syllabus code, paper structure and practical arrangements. Material written for 0625 will not map cleanly onto it, which matters when a family buys revision resources themselves.

Where an Al Ain student transfers between an O Level school and an IGCSE school mid-course, the sensible first step is a written comparison of what each syllabus has already covered. The overlap is large but not complete, and the gaps tend to sit in the practical requirements and in how much detail nuclear and space physics demand.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Physics is rarely the only subject under pressure in a Year 11 science set. These are the Cambridge subjects our Al Ain students pair with 0625 most often, and what each one actually assesses.

Physics (0625)

Core and Extended

Six topic areas: motion, forces and energy; thermal physics; waves; electricity and magnetism; nuclear physics; space physics. Core candidates sit Papers 1 and 3, Extended candidates Papers 2 and 4, and all candidates sit Paper 5 or Paper 6. The theory paper carries half the total and the practical component a fifth.

Chemistry (0620)

Core and Extended

Same tiering and the same paper architecture as physics, including the Paper 5 and Paper 6 choice. Mole calculations and rate-of-reaction graph work are where chemistry marks are lost, and students who struggle with physics graph questions usually struggle with these too, because the underlying skill is identical.

Biology (0610)

Core and Extended

Heavier on recall than physics, with magnification calculations, biological drawing conventions and graph interpretation as the quantitative content. Students carrying three separate sciences are the ones most likely to run out of revision weeks, so sequencing between subjects matters as much as teaching within them.

Co-ordinated Sciences (0654)

Core and Extended, double award

Biology, chemistry and physics combined into a double award rather than three separate qualifications. The physics content is reduced against 0625 and the papers are structured differently, so revising from 0625 resources leads students into material they will never be asked about. Check the code on the statement of entry.

Mathematics (0580)

Core and Extended

The subject that most often limits a physics grade. Rearranging a formula where the subject appears twice, reading gradients from a graph, handling standard form and converting unit prefixes are all mathematics skills examined inside physics questions, and they are fixable faster than physics content is.

Additional Mathematics (0606)

Single tier

Examined in two written papers covering functions, logarithms, series, radians and calculus. Students carrying 0606 alongside Extended physics usually find kinematics and graphs of motion easier, because gradient and area questions become calculus rather than geometry.

Computer Science (0478)

Single tier

Paper 1 on data representation, networks, hardware and security; Paper 2 on algorithms, programming and logic. Students who like the systematic side of physics often do well here, and the two subjects compete for the same revision evenings in the spring term.

English as a First Language (0500)

Single tier

Paper 1 reading and Paper 2 directed writing and composition. Strong physicists frequently carry their weakest margin here, and because the paper rewards structured argument under time pressure rather than correct answers, nothing in the science toolkit transfers.

AS and A Level Physics (9702)

AS and A Level

The direct continuation of 0625 Extended, with practical skills examined in dedicated papers and a far heavier mathematical load. Students moving straight from 0625 into 9702 benefit most from a bridging block on uncertainty, significant figures and graph linearisation over the summer.

Arabic as an Additional Language

School-dependent

Arabic, Islamic Education and Social Studies run alongside an international curriculum in UAE private schools, and they occupy timetable space that families planning science revision often forget. Arabic lessons are organised under rules the regulator sets rather than by the licensed curriculum.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Physics responds to short, frequent, diagnostic work rather than long teaching sessions. These are the formats Al Ain families actually use, and which one fits depends on whether the gap is content or technique.

Weekly one-to-one over live video

One fixed slot a week, one student and one tutor, on a shared whiteboard where both write. This is the default where school teaching is still in progress, because it follows the department's order rather than competing with it, and it keeps the marked-script cycle running all year.

  • A fixed weekly slot in Gulf Standard Time agreed around the school run
  • Circuit diagrams, ray diagrams and graphs drawn live rather than described
  • A short retrieval task at the start of each session from previous errors
  • A written note after every lesson stating what was covered and what to practise

Twice-weekly technique blocks

Two shorter sessions in a week aimed at one topic area. Electricity and magnetism is the usual reason: series and parallel reasoning, potential dividers and induction need practice across days before they become reliable, and one weekly lesson leaves six days for the method to fade.

  • Two sessions of 45 to 60 minutes rather than one long lesson
  • One topic area per fortnight, drilled until it holds under time pressure
  • Mixed-topic recall questions opening every session
  • Suited to the stretch between a January mock and a June series

Marked-paper cycle

Your child sits a past paper to time, sends the script, and the tutor marks it against the published mark scheme before the lesson. The session then addresses the marks that were lost, including the ones lost to units, prefixes and command words rather than to physics.

  • The student's own script marked question by question to the scheme
  • An error log carried forward so the same slip is not repeated
  • Per-question timing data, which is often the hidden problem in Paper 4
  • Weighted heavily in the final six weeks before the series

Paper 6 and Paper 5 preparation

A focused block on experimental technique: reading instruments, tabulating results, plotting and using a line of best fit, identifying sources of error and suggesting improvements. This is the component most families under-prepare, and it carries a fifth of the total grade.

  • Instrument-reading and tabulation drills built from past questions
  • Graph plotting marked on scale choice, point accuracy and best-fit line
  • Error and improvement questions practised as a written genre of their own
  • Aligned to whichever of Paper 5 or Paper 6 your child's centre has entered

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Ain

01

The four options compared, with what each one actually fixes

Start by naming the problem, because the four options are not interchangeable. If your child has not been taught a topic, the cheapest fix is coverage and a group class may do it. If your child has been taught everything and still writes 48 per cent, the problem is technique and only one-to-one diagnosis will find it. If your child cannot sit still in front of a laptop without supervision, a visiting tutor solves something no online lesson can. And if the issue is a handful of specific questions, the school clinic is free and should be used first.

The second question is supply, and it is where Al Ain differs from Dubai. Extended physics at examination standard is a narrow specialism. The number of adults in the city who have taught it recently and are free in the same evening window as your child is small, and that number does not improve by paying more. Online delivery changes the arithmetic completely: the pool becomes everyone qualified to teach 0625 rather than everyone who can reach your district by 18:30 on a weekday.

The third question is evidence. Whichever option you choose, ask what you will be able to see after three sessions. A credible answer is a marked script with the lost marks named, a written topic diagnosis, and a stated plan with the weeks counted. An answer about confidence and engagement is not evidence. The table below sets the four options side by side with published AED rates, so the comparison is about what each buys rather than about which one sounds most reassuring.

02

How the 0625 grade is actually built

Cambridge IGCSE Physics is tiered and modular in its paper structure, and a surprising number of families revise hardest for the component carrying the least weight. Core candidates sit Paper 1, a multiple-choice paper, and Paper 3, the Core theory paper. Extended candidates sit Paper 2, the Extended multiple-choice paper, and Paper 4, the Extended theory paper. Every candidate then sits one practical component: either Paper 5, the practical test, or Paper 6, the alternative to practical, and the centre chooses which.

The weightings are the part worth writing down. The multiple-choice paper carries 30 per cent of the total, the theory paper carries 50 per cent, and the practical component carries 20 per cent. So the theory paper is worth more than everything else a student sits in one of the two tiers, and the practical component is worth more than many families assume from how little class time it receives. A student who ignores experimental technique has given away a fifth of the grade before the series begins.

That structure dictates the revision shape. Multiple choice rewards speed and the elimination of careless errors, and improves quickly with timed sets. The theory paper rewards command-word discipline and showing method, and improves slowly with marked scripts. The practical component rewards a small number of trainable routines: reading an instrument to the right precision, tabulating with units in the heading, choosing a sensible scale, drawing a best-fit line and writing a usable improvement. Confirm your child's exact components and paper durations against the syllabus for their series on cambridgeinternational.org, and against the statement of entry the centre issues.

0625 against the three qualifications families confuse it with

A large share of the wasted revision we see comes from a student working through the wrong resources. Four qualifications sit close enough together to be mistaken for one another, and the subject name on a school report will not distinguish them. The only reliable identifier is the syllabus code on the statement of entry, which is why it is worth asking the exams officer for that document rather than relying on what a subject teacher mentioned in a parents evening.

Cambridge offers both 0625 and a 9 to 1 graded variant of IGCSE Physics, with the same subject content but a different reporting scale. Pearson Edexcel's International GCSE Physics is a separate qualification with its own specification, its own papers and a different treatment of practical skills. And Cambridge Co-ordinated Sciences is a double award covering biology, chemistry and physics together, with less physics content than 0625 and a different paper structure. A child entered for the double award who revises from 0625 materials will meet topics they will never be examined on.

None of these is harder than the others in any useful sense; they are differently shaped. What matters practically is matching the resources, the past papers and the mark schemes to the code your child is entered for, and understanding which scale the grade will be reported on. Both Cambridge and Pearson publish their specifications and specimen material openly, and we work from those rather than from third-party summaries. We do not supply syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes ourselves; we cite them and link to the boards.

04

The six topic areas, and the marks each one quietly costs

  • Treat electricity as a sequence to rebuild, not a topic to revise
  • Check axis units before reading any gradient
  • Learn the difference between describe, explain, state and determine as a written habit
  • Nuclear and space physics are usually the cheapest available marks for a late starter

The 0625 content divides into six areas: motion, forces and energy; thermal physics; waves; electricity and magnetism; nuclear physics; and space physics. Families tend to assume difficulty is spread evenly across them and that the hardest topic deserves the most hours. The evidence from marked scripts says something different. Marks are lost in clusters, and the clusters are often about presentation and reasoning rather than about the physics itself.

Electricity and magnetism is the area that most often produces a collapse in a mock result, because it is cumulative. A student who is shaky on current in series and parallel branches cannot reason about potential dividers, and cannot then handle induction or the transformer questions that depend on the same picture. Repairing this area is a sequence, not a topic, and it is the clearest case for twice-weekly short sessions rather than one long one.

Motion, forces and energy is where unit prefixes and graph work do the damage. A student who reads a distance-time gradient as a value without checking the axis units can lose every mark in a question they understood perfectly. Thermal physics and waves punish imprecise language, because the command word asks for an explanation and the answer describes. Nuclear and space physics are the two areas most often taught last and revised least, and they are usually the cheapest marks available to a student starting late. A student who has three weeks and wants the largest return should ask which of the six areas their own marked papers keep losing marks in, then start there rather than at the front of the textbook.

05

Practical physics when the teaching happens on a screen

This is the first question serious parents ask, and it deserves a direct answer. Cambridge assesses practical physics either through Paper 5, a practical test carried out under examination conditions at the centre, or through Paper 6, a written alternative to practical. Both are set and marked by Cambridge, both happen at your child's school, and neither is affected by where tutoring takes place. What a tutor can do is train the skills those papers reward, and most of those skills are recording, analysis and reasoning rather than manipulation of apparatus.

In a live video lesson that training is straightforward and often better than it is in a crowded laboratory. A student reads a scale from an image of a real instrument and states the precision. They tabulate results with units in the column headings, which is where marks are routinely dropped. They plot a graph on paper, photograph it, and have the scale choice, point accuracy and best-fit line marked against the scheme. They write an improvement that names a specific change rather than asking for more accuracy, and they get told why the vague version earns nothing.

What online teaching cannot replace is time holding apparatus. A student entered for the Paper 5 practical test needs laboratory practice, and that comes from school. If your child's centre enters Paper 5 and the school's laboratory time is thin, that is a conversation to have with the department rather than something tutoring can fix. For centres entering Paper 6, the written alternative, screen-based teaching covers essentially the whole assessment, which is why we ask which route the centre has entered before planning anything.

06

Equations, data and what the exam actually hands your child

  • Check the syllabus version for your child's series before trusting any equation claim
  • Write the relationship, substitute with units, convert prefixes at substitution
  • Round once, in the final line, and always state the unit
  • Read the stem for supplied data before assuming a value must be recalled

Every year families ask whether equations are provided in the examination, and every year someone answers confidently from the wrong syllabus version. Cambridge revises syllabuses on a cycle, and the rules about which relationships a candidate must recall, what appears on any supplied list, and what calculator is permitted belong to the syllabus document for your child's specific series. That document is published openly on cambridgeinternational.org, and the exams officer can confirm which version governs the entry. We will not restate those rules here as though they were fixed.

What is stable is the behaviour that earns marks regardless of what is supplied. Write the relationship before substituting numbers, so a method mark survives an arithmetic slip. Substitute with units attached. Convert prefixes at the point of substitution rather than at the end, where the conversion gets forgotten. Round only in the final line and state the unit. Those four habits recover more marks across a paper than any single topic does, and they are trainable in a fortnight.

The same discipline applies to data in questions. Physics papers frequently supply a value a student assumes they must remember, and supply it in a form that needs converting. Students lose marks by not reading the stem carefully enough to notice. Our marked-script cycle exists largely to surface this class of error, because it is invisible in a lesson where the tutor explains and the student nods, and obvious the moment somebody marks the child's own written attempt against the published scheme.

07

ADEK, the inspection report and what it tells you about physics

Al Ain is part of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, so its private schools sit with the Department of Education and Knowledge, which supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the emirate. Dubai's KHDA has no jurisdiction here, Sharjah has its own authority, and Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah come under the federal Ministry of Education. The regulator map for UAE private schools is published on u.ae, and families moving between emirates are changing regulator as well as address.

An inspection outcome is useful context and a poor proxy for your child's physics department. A whole-school judgement aggregates every subject and phase; a strong school can have a thin year of separate-science staffing, and a mid-rated school can have an outstanding physics teacher who has run the Extended course for a decade. The questions that actually predict your child's experience are narrower: who teaches Year 11 physics, how many periods a week, whether the centre enters Paper 5 or Paper 6, and whether the syllabus will be finished before the mock.

There is one regulatory point with direct bearing on tutoring. Private tuition in the UAE runs on a permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, which per u.ae is granted free of charge for two years, with eligible applicants including registered school teachers, government and private-sector employees, unemployed individuals, university students and school students aged 15 to 18. Those tutoring without a permit from MoHRE are subject to fines and penalties under the applicable laws. Abu Dhabi's professional-ethics rules also bar school staff from paid private tutoring of students enrolled at their own school, so hiring your child's own physics teacher privately is not available to you.

08

What physics tuition costs in Al Ain, and what the price does not buy

Three of the six competitor pages we examined for this market publish no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars. Al Ain parents pay in dirhams, so the figures here are published AED rates with the source attached to each. These are market rates and not IB Gram's price list. Our own arrangement starts with a free trial lesson and a conversation about how many weeks remain, because the right number of sessions for a student in October and one in April are not the same number.

The bands are consistent across the market. Budget online tutoring sits below AED 150 an hour and generally buys homework supervision; on Extended physics that distinction is real, since checking an answer is not the same as diagnosing why circuit reasoning keeps failing. Qualified subject teaching online clusters between AED 150 and AED 300. Visiting in-home rates run higher because travel is inside them. Specialist IGCSE and A-Level rates start around AED 200 and rise, and premium named tutors are quoted considerably above that. Monthly packages exist too, with published examples around AED 799 for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home sessions.

What no rate buys is a grade. Any page offering a guaranteed outcome for a price is describing something it cannot deliver, and in this market that pattern appears often enough to be worth naming. What a higher rate should buy is specific: diagnosis against the syllabus, marking against the published scheme, and honesty about the calendar. Set the cost against the context, too. KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that Dubai private school fees would not rise for 2026-27 and Abu Dhabi fee decisions sit with ADEK, but tutoring is an addition to a bill that is already large, which argues for fewer and better-targeted hours.

Where we tutor

Where our Al Ain 0625 students log in from

Physics sessions need a desk, a quiet door and somewhere to write, rather than any equipment. The practical constraint in Al Ain is when the drive home finishes. These are the districts our students join from.

Asharej

Near the university quarter, and the district where the most Year 11 students are already looking at AS Physics 9702. A 0625 plan written here usually keeps uncertainty, significant figures and graph linearisation in the final term rather than dropping them once the exam content is covered.

Al Mutaredh

Close to the older centre of the city, with shorter journeys home for most families. A 17:00 start is realistic twice a week here, which suits the twice-weekly technique pattern that electricity and circuits respond to better than a single long evening block.

Al Jimi

A long-established residential district of villas and apartments. Sessions generally run from 18:00 Gulf Standard Time once the school run and a meal are done. For physics the room matters more than the connection: a flat surface for drawing circuit diagrams by hand is worth more than a second screen.

Zakher

On the southern edge of the city, with the longest drives to the main school cluster. Families here often prefer one two-hour weekend block plus a marked paper returned midweek, rather than two weekday evenings that start after 18:30 and end with a tired student.

Al Muwaiji

West of the centre, spread across villa compounds where connection quality varies more between compounds than between districts. We ask new families to run the free trial from the room they actually intend to use, because a trial taken in the best room tells you nothing useful.

Al Towayya

A district where after-school sport and Arabic tuition usually set the constraint rather than the commute. Where two evenings are already committed, the physics plan compresses to one weekday session plus a timed paper marked over the weekend and reviewed at the start of the next lesson.

Hili

In the north of the city, near the Hili parks and archaeological area. Students here commonly travel further to campus, so the second hour of a late session is better spent reviewing marked work than meeting a new topic such as electromagnetic induction for the first time.

Falaj Hazza

A dense residential pocket where we often book sibling sessions back to back. Where one child needs physics and another chemistry, staggering the slots means one quiet room is used twice rather than two rooms being needed at the same time on a weekday evening.

The most useful first message contains the mock script or its mark breakdown, the syllabus code from the statement of entry, and the series your child is entered for. That lets us match a tutor to the actual gap rather than to the subject name, and it shortens the diagnostic phase by a session.

  2. 02

Free trial lesson with a 0625 diagnostic

The first lesson costs nothing. The tutor works through short items across the six topic areas plus one experimental-method question, and reports which areas need teaching, which need technique work, and which are already secure. You get that in writing rather than as a verbal impression.

  3. 03

A plan with the components named

The plan states which papers your child sits, which practical route the centre has entered, the order topics will be taught in, and what gets dropped if there are too few weeks. Where the honest answer is that full coverage is no longer possible, the plan says so.

  4. 04

    Weekly teaching plus marked scripts

Sessions run in your agreed Gulf Standard Time slot. Between lessons your child sits questions to time and sends the script; the tutor marks it against the published scheme so the lesson is spent on lost marks instead of on topics already understood.

  5. 05

A practical-skills block before the series

Paper 5 and Paper 6 carry a fifth of the grade and receive the least attention in most revision plans. We schedule a dedicated block on instrument reading, tabulation, graph plotting and improvement writing, aligned to whichever route your child's centre has entered.

  6. 06

Change the tutor whenever it is not working

Physics explanations are personal, and a tutor who lands with one student will not land with every student. Tell us after any lesson and we move you, with no penalty and no requirement to justify the decision. The trial exists so that this happens before money has changed hands.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The comparison is on this page, not hidden

We have set out the four options a parent in Al Ain is actually weighing, including the free one and the two we do not sell, with published rates attached. If the school clinic or a group class is the right answer for your child, this page should help you reach that conclusion faster.

Chosen for teaching 0625, not for being nearby

Because lessons run one-to-one over live video, the pool is everyone qualified to teach Extended physics rather than everyone who can reach your district by 18:30. In a city the size of Al Ain, on a narrow specialism, that is the whole of the argument.

Marking against the published mark scheme

Your child's own scripts are marked question by question with the lost marks named, including the ones lost to units, prefixes and command words. That is a different activity from being told an answer is wrong, and it is where most of the recoverable marks sit.

The practical component is planned, not assumed

Paper 5 and Paper 6 carry a fifth of the grade. We ask which route the centre has entered before planning, and we say plainly that laboratory time for the practical test has to come from school rather than from a video lesson.

Sources cited, not paraphrased

Regulator statements on this page come from u.ae, and board rules from Cambridge and Pearson's own published material. We link out rather than reproducing syllabus documents, past papers or mark schemes, which are the boards' copyright and not ours to distribute.

No accreditation claims and no invented numbers

IB Gram holds no approval from ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge, Pearson or the IB, and claims none. Every AED figure here is attributed to whoever published it, and no outcome on this page is guaranteed, because no honest tutor can guarantee one.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Ain: your questions answered

Which practical component will an Al Ain centre enter my child for?+

That is the centre's decision, not yours and not the tutor's. Cambridge offers Paper 5, a practical test carried out under examination conditions, and Paper 6, a written alternative to practical, and a school chooses which route it enters candidates for based on its laboratory capacity and staffing. The statement of entry names the components your child will actually sit, so ask the exams officer for it. The distinction matters for planning, because Paper 6 can be prepared almost entirely through written work while Paper 5 needs genuine laboratory time that only the school can supply.

My son's school runs a free physics clinic. Is a paid tutor still worth it?+

Try the clinic first, properly, for three or four weeks. It is free, it is run by someone who knows the teaching order your child experienced, and it often has very few students in the room. Its limitation is that it answers the questions a student brings, which assumes the student can name what they do not understand. Most cannot; they know the mock felt impossible. If your son returns from the clinic unable to say what changed, the gap is diagnosis rather than access, and that is what one-to-one teaching with marked scripts provides.

Does a small group class work for Extended physics?+

It works well for one specific problem: content that has not been taught yet. A class that has not reached nuclear physics by February genuinely benefits from being taught nuclear physics, and a group rate is cheaper per hour than one-to-one. It works poorly for technique, because the marks a student loses on command words, unit prefixes, graph gradients and missing working are personal to them. Six students in a room lose marks in six different ways, and a group lesson can only address the average. Diagnose first, then choose the format that fits the diagnosis.

How is the 0625 grade split across the papers my child sits?+

The multiple-choice paper carries 30 per cent of the total, the theory paper carries 50 per cent and the practical component carries 20 per cent. Core candidates sit Papers 1 and 3; Extended candidates sit Papers 2 and 4; all candidates sit either Paper 5 or Paper 6. The practical fifth is the share most families under-prepare, because it receives the least class time. Confirm the components, durations and marks for your child's specific series against the syllabus on cambridgeinternational.org, since Cambridge revises syllabuses on a cycle and the version for the entry is the one that governs.

Is Cambridge 0625 the same course as the 9 to 1 graded physics IGCSE?+

The subject content is the same separate-science physics, but the grade is reported on a different scale. Cambridge offers both an A star to G variant and a 9 to 1 variant of IGCSE Physics, and a school chooses which to enter. For revision this rarely matters, since the same past papers and mark schemes apply to the content. For university and equivalency paperwork it does matter, because the certificate states the scale. The syllabus code on the statement of entry tells you which one your child is entered for, and that is the document to check rather than the school report.

Should my daughter take separate physics or Co-ordinated Sciences?+

That decision usually belongs to the school and to the timetable, and it is made before Year 10 rather than during Year 11. What matters once the entry exists is that the revision matches it. Co-ordinated Sciences is a double award covering biology, chemistry and physics together, with less physics content than 0625 and differently structured papers. A student entered for the double award who revises from 0625 resources will spend evenings on material they will never be examined on. Check the syllabus code on the statement of entry before buying any revision resource.

Which topic area should we start with after a weak physics mock?+

Usually electricity and magnetism, and not because it is the hardest. It is the most cumulative. A student unsure about current in series and parallel branches cannot reason about potential dividers, and therefore cannot handle induction or transformer questions either, so one weak foundation shows up across several questions and drags the whole paper down. Rebuilding it is a sequence rather than a single topic, which is why it responds to two short sessions a week rather than one long one. The marked mock script tells us whether that is your child's pattern or a different one.

Can an online tutor prepare my child for the Paper 5 practical test?+

Partly, and we are specific about which parts. The recording, tabulation, graph and analysis skills that carry most of the marks are taught well over live video: reading an instrument to the right precision, putting units in column headings, choosing a sensible scale, drawing a best-fit line and writing a named improvement rather than asking for more accuracy. What a video lesson cannot supply is time holding apparatus. If your child's centre enters Paper 5 and laboratory time at school is thin, raise that with the department, because tutoring cannot substitute for it.

Where do I find out which equations 0625 expects my child to recall?+

In the syllabus document for your child's specific series, published openly on cambridgeinternational.org, and confirmed by the exams officer who made the entry. Cambridge revises syllabuses on a cycle, so a confident answer taken from a forum or an older revision guide can describe a version that no longer applies. Whatever the rules turn out to be, the mark-earning habits are the same: write the relationship before substituting, substitute with units attached, convert prefixes at the point of substitution, and round once in the final line with the unit stated.

Can a student move between Core and Extended physics during Year 11 in Al Ain?+

Tier changes are possible and they are an administrative matter for the centre, bounded by Cambridge's entry and amendment deadlines rather than by anyone's opinion of the student. The practical reality is that the decision has to be made early enough for the entry to be amended, which means the conversation belongs weeks before the final entry date rather than after a disappointing mock. Ask the exams officer what the amendment window is for your child's series, and in the meantime work on the supplement content, because dropping to Core later costs nothing that was learned.

How late can a physics session start for a family in Zakher or Al Towayya?+

For most families in the outer districts, 18:30 Gulf Standard Time is the realistic earliest once the drive home and a meal are done, and plenty of our sessions run later than that. Two caveats are worth stating. Technical material taught after a long school day is retained poorly, so a late slot is usually better spent reviewing a marked script than meeting electromagnetic induction for the first time. And during Ramadan slots can move to post-Iftar timing, which we agree before the month begins rather than renegotiating week by week.

Is a visiting physics tutor in Al Ain better value than an online specialist?+

It depends on which problem you are solving. A visiting tutor supplies supervision and presence, needs no technology at your end, and is the right answer for a child who will not engage with a screen unattended. Published market rates for in-home one-to-one run from roughly AED 180 to 500 because travel sits inside the rate. What the model cannot do in Al Ain is widen the pool of people who have taught Extended physics to examination standard, and on a narrow specialism that pool is the binding constraint. IB Gram does not offer home visits in the UAE.

Does an ADEK inspection report tell me how good my child's physics teaching is?+

Only indirectly. The Department of Education and Knowledge supervises the licensing and accreditation of private schools in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and inspects them, but a whole-school judgement aggregates every subject and every phase. A strong school can have a thin year of separate-science staffing and a mid-rated school can have an excellent Extended physics teacher. The questions that predict your child's experience are narrower: who teaches Year 11 physics, how many periods a week, which practical route the centre enters, and whether the syllabus will be finished before the mock.

What does 0625 physics tuition cost per hour in this market?+

Published figures put qualified online subject tutoring at roughly AED 150 to 300 an hour and IGCSE or A-Level specialists from about AED 200 to 450 and above, with TutorChase publishing AED 270 and Bestimate's rate table giving 200 to 450 and above. Budget online tutoring sits lower, with EdFlik listing from AED 45 to 65 and Tutopiya from AED 33 to 52. Visiting in-home rates run from about AED 180 to 500 with travel inside them. Those are other people's published numbers. Our own arrangement opens with a free trial lesson and a conversation about the weeks remaining.

Is Pearson International GCSE Physics easier than Cambridge 0625?+

Neither is easier in any way a parent can use. They are differently shaped qualifications from different boards, with their own specifications, papers and treatment of practical skills, and your child is entered for whichever one their school offers. The decision that matters is not which board to prefer but which board's material to revise from. A student working through Cambridge past papers for a Pearson entry, or the reverse, wastes evenings on content and question styles that will not appear. Confirm the specification code on the statement of entry and use that board's own published material.

Pick the option that matches the problem

If your child has not been taught a topic, ask the school first and consider a group class. If they have been taught everything and the mock still came back weak, the gap is diagnosis and technique, and that is what one-to-one teaching with marked scripts is for. Send the mock script, the syllabus code from the statement of entry and the series your child is sitting, and the free trial lesson will tell you which of the six topic areas need hours and whether the practical component has been planned at all. Lessons then run one-to-one over live video in a Gulf Standard Time slot that survives an Al Ain school week.
