IGCSE Home Tutor in Al Rashidiya, Ajman

The question behind every search for an IGCSE home tutor in Al Rashidiya, Ajman is narrower than it looks. It is not whether somebody nearby can teach maths. It is whether they have taught the exact syllabus your child is entered for, whether that is Cambridge 0580 Extended or Pearson 4MA1 Higher Tier, and whether they know which papers come with it. IB Gram answers that question with a code, then teaches it live online.

  • Tutors matched to the syllabus code on your child's entry, not the subject name
  • Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE both covered separately
  • Live one-to-one video lessons on Gulf Standard Time, Ajman evenings
  • We name the papers your child sits before the first lesson is booked

IB & IGCSE in Al Rashidiya, Ajman

The question is not 'can you teach maths', it is 'which syllabus'

A parent in Al Rashidiya who wants IGCSE help usually starts by asking around the building, then on a community group, then on Google. The replies arrive quickly and they are nearly all the same shape: an experienced teacher, flexible hours, all subjects, reasonable rates. What almost none of them contain is a four-digit number. Yet that number is the thing that decides whether the hour helps.

Your child's school has entered them for a particular syllabus with a particular board. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics is 0580, with an International variant numbered 0607 at some schools; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics Specification A is 4MA1. Cambridge Chemistry is 0620, Physics 0625, Biology 0610, Coordinated Sciences 0654, English as a First Language 0500 or 0990 depending on the version. Those codes sit on the statement of entry and often on the exam timetable the school sends home. They determine the number of papers, the length of each, whether there is a practical paper or an alternative to practical, and whether the subject is tiered.

A tutor who has taught the other board's version of the same subject is not useless, but they are working from the wrong map. They will prepare a student for a structured written paper that does not exist on that entry, or miss that the Pearson paper is sat in two parts of equal weight where Cambridge splits a short-answer paper from an extended one. In the last six weeks before a series, when preparation becomes paper-shaped rather than topic-shaped, that mismatch costs grades.

This page answers the proximity question honestly. The pool of people within a short drive of Al Rashidiya who have recently taught a named syllabus in a named subject is small, and for the less common subjects it is empty. IB Gram does not run in-home visits anywhere in the UAE, because the service is delivered live online, one tutor and one student over video. That removes the radius from the search, and the radius is the only reason the syllabus question was hard to answer in the first place.

What follows is the information a parent needs in order to interview anybody, including us. Where to find the syllabus code. How Cambridge and Pearson differ on the same subject. What Core and Extended actually mean for a grade ceiling. What the Northern Emirates market charges, in dirhams, with the figures attributed. How the Ministry of Education's equivalency rules treat an IGCSE certificate. And how science practical work is handled when the lessons are on a screen.

None of it requires a parent to become an examinations officer. It requires one piece of information, held by the school, that almost nobody asks for before paying a tutor. A family in Al Rashidiya who sends that code in a message has already done more to protect the grade than a family who spent a fortnight comparing hourly rates, because the rate only matters once the person on the other end is teaching the right examination.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

An IGCSE entry sits inside a longer route, and the route matters for how tutoring is planned. Al Rashidiya students arrive at Year 10 from Cambridge Lower Secondary, from a British national-curriculum primary, or from a transfer out of CBSE or an American programme, and each start leaves a different hole.

LSAges 11-14 · Years 7-9

Cambridge Lower Secondary

Three years of staged curriculum frameworks in English, mathematics, science and increasingly computing, with optional Checkpoint tests at the end. Checkpoint results are diagnostic rather than certificated, and they are the earliest reliable signal of whether a student is on track for the Extended tier at IGCSE. Schools use them to set tiers, which means a weak Year 9 can quietly decide a grade ceiling two years later.

Checkpoint tests are available in March, May and October windows, so an Ajman school may run them at a different point from a neighbour in Sharjah. Families in Al Rashidiya who want a tier decision reconsidered should ask for the Checkpoint breakdown by strand rather than the overall score, because the strand data shows whether the gap is algebra, number or problem-solving.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge IGCSE

Two years, typically eight to ten subjects, examined externally with syllabus codes in the 0400 to 0700 range. Most subjects offer Core and Extended routes with different papers and different grade ceilings. Assessment is almost entirely terminal, with coursework retained in a minority of subjects, so paper technique carries as much weight as content knowledge by the final term.

Ajman private schools sit under federal Ministry of Education supervision, and a large share of Al Rashidiya students cross into Sharjah schools regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority. Either way the board is Cambridge or Pearson rather than the regulator, and the entry decision, including tier, is made by the school. Ask for it in writing at the start of Year 10.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE

The other major international route, with codes such as 4MA1 for Mathematics Specification A, 4PH1 for Physics, 4CH1 for Chemistry and 4BI1 for Biology. Papers are structured differently from Cambridge: Mathematics Specification A is two papers of equal weight, and the sciences use a single-paper or two-paper model depending on specification, with practical skills assessed in the written papers rather than in a separate practical examination.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE examinations are available in May and June and again in November. The November 2026 final timetable ran from late October to 19 November 2026, and results from the June 2026 series reached centres on 19 August 2026 and students the following day. November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026, which is the lag a resit candidate in Ajman should plan around.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

Cambridge International AS and A Level

The two-year route most IGCSE students in the Northern Emirates follow next, in three or four subjects, with AS assessed separately or as part of a staged A Level. Subject content steps up sharply from IGCSE, particularly in mathematics and the sciences, and the first term of Year 12 is where students who coasted through Extended discover the gap.

For Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track, the published requirement includes one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, alongside the five IGCSE or GCSE subjects. Verify the current rule with the Ministry before relying on it for a university application.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Below are the IGCSE subjects Al Rashidiya families ask about most, with the Cambridge code in each case and the Pearson equivalent where there is one. The description says what the papers demand rather than restating the subject title.

Mathematics (Cambridge 0580 / Pearson 4MA1)

Core and Extended; Pearson Foundation and Higher Tier

Number, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability and statistics. Extended adds functions, vectors, more demanding trigonometry and harder algebraic manipulation. Marks go missing in multi-step problems where the method is right and a sign or a unit is wrong, which is a correctable habit rather than a knowledge gap.

Additional Mathematics (Cambridge 0606)

Single tier

Taken alongside 0580 by stronger cohorts as a bridge to A Level. Calculus, logarithms, series, matrices and kinematics appear here first. Students who manage 0580 by pattern recognition struggle immediately, because 0606 rewards algebraic fluency and offers far fewer structured scaffolds.

Physics (Cambridge 0625 / Pearson 4PH1)

Core and Extended

Motion, forces, energy, waves, electricity, magnetism and atomic physics. Electricity is the reported sticking point in nearly every cohort, usually because circuit reasoning was learned as formula selection. The practical component differs by board, and the alternative-to-practical paper has its own technique.

Chemistry (Cambridge 0620 / Pearson 4CH1)

Core and Extended

Particles, bonding, stoichiometry, acids and bases, periodicity, organic and analysis. Mole calculations and ionic equations account for a disproportionate share of lost marks. Extended adds electrolysis depth and organic reaction detail that Core candidates never meet.

Biology (Cambridge 0610 / Pearson 4BI1)

Core and Extended

Characteristics of organisms, cells, transport, respiration, reproduction, inheritance and ecology. The content volume invites memorisation and the papers reward command-term discipline. Experiment-design questions and graph interpretation are the two areas most students have never practised separately.

Coordinated and Combined Science (Cambridge 0654 / 0653)

Double and single award

Biology, chemistry and physics taught as one award, with reduced depth per discipline. Students moving from Coordinated Science into A Level sciences need the gap closed deliberately, because the omitted content is assumed rather than retaught in Year 12.

English as a First Language (Cambridge 0500 / 0990)

Single tier

Reading response and directed writing, plus composition. The reading paper is a comprehension and summary exercise with a strict economy of expression, and summary marks are lost by students who paraphrase rather than select. Composition is marked on structure and control as much as on content.

English Literature (Cambridge 0475 / 0992)

Single tier

Poetry, prose and drama, assessed through passage-based and essay questions. The decisive skill is quotation selection under time pressure. Students who learn whole essays and reproduce them score worse than those who learn fifteen quotations well and respond to the question asked.

Business Studies (Cambridge 0450)

Single tier

Business activity, people, marketing, operations and finance, assessed through short answers and a case study. Evaluation marks require a judgement supported by the case, and most candidates describe the theory correctly then stop before the judgement, leaving the top band untouched.

Economics (Cambridge 0455)

Single tier

Basic economic problem, allocation of resources, microeconomic decision makers, government and the macroeconomy, international trade. Diagram accuracy is worth real marks and axis labelling errors are the commonest avoidable loss, followed by answers that explain a concept without applying it.

Computer Science (Cambridge 0478)

Single tier

Data representation, networks, hardware, software and algorithm design with pseudocode. The second paper rewards students who can trace an algorithm by hand, a skill that coding practice alone does not build. Pseudocode conventions must match the board's published style.

Arabic (Cambridge 0508 First Language / 0544 Foreign Language)

Separate syllabuses

Two very different qualifications often confused by parents. First Language assumes fluency and assesses literary and directed writing; Foreign Language assesses functional reading, writing and communication. The right entry depends on the student's background, and a wrong entry is a very expensive mistake to discover in Year 11.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats cover most IGCSE requests from this part of Ajman, and the choice depends on how much of Year 10 is left rather than on preference.

Syllabus-led weekly teaching

One subject, one syllabus, one evening a week through the school year. The tutor works from the board's published syllabus content list and tracks coverage against it, so a parent can see at any point which topics have been taught, which have been examined in practice and which are outstanding. Most Al Rashidiya families run this in two subjects.

  • Coverage tracked against the published syllabus content list
  • Past-paper questions from the correct board only
  • Same slot weekly, 5.30pm to 9.30pm Gulf Standard Time
  • Written note after each lesson naming the topic and the next step

Tier and entry review

A short diagnostic block for families unsure whether Core or Extended, or Foundation or Higher Tier, is the right entry. The tutor works through tier-appropriate past-paper material at both levels and reports what the evidence shows. The decision stays with the school, but the parent goes into that conversation with marked work rather than an impression.

  • Two or three sessions, both tiers sampled under timed conditions
  • Marked against the published scheme, not graded by opinion
  • A written summary you can take to the subject teacher
  • Honest when the evidence supports the school's existing decision

Paper-shaped final-term preparation

From roughly eight weeks out, teaching stops being topic-led and becomes paper-led. Each session takes one paper type from the student's own board, runs it under time, then marks and reworks it. This is where the syllabus-code question stops being pedantic and starts determining the grade.

  • Timed papers from the student's own syllabus and series
  • Marking against the published mark scheme, with the band explained
  • Alternative-to-practical technique where the entry includes it
  • Separate work on command terms and question stems

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Al Rashidiya, Ajman

01

Does anyone near Al Rashidiya actually teach your child's syllabus?

  • Common subjects are locally findable; the specialist ones are not
  • Two boards times two tiers times two emirates fragments the local market
  • A generalist rarely tells you they are working from the wrong specification
  • Online delivery makes the syllabus the search key instead of the postcode

Answer first: for Mathematics 0580 and the three separate sciences, probably yes, if you are willing to accept whoever is free. For Additional Mathematics 0606, Computer Science 0478, Arabic First Language 0508, Economics 0455 or English Literature at a high band, almost certainly not within a short drive of Al Rashidiya, and asking the question that way is what reveals it.

The reason is arithmetic rather than anything about Ajman. A neighbourhood tutoring market needs enough students in one subject at one level on one board to sustain a specialist. Al Rashidiya's IGCSE population is split across at least two boards, two tiers in most subjects, and schools on both sides of the Sharjah border. Divide a modest total by all of those and the per-syllabus demand within walking distance is a handful of students a year.

What happens next is predictable. A generalist takes the work, because the alternative is turning away a paying family. The teaching is often decent on content. The student arrives at the series having practised the wrong paper structure, or having never seen an alternative-to-practical paper because the tutor's experience was with a board that assesses practicals differently. The parent never finds out that this was the problem, because a grade does not come with a diagnosis.

IB Gram's answer is to delete the radius. Lessons are delivered live over video, one to one, so the search covers everybody teaching that syllabus in this time zone rather than everybody living near your building. We do not offer in-home visits anywhere in the UAE, and we say so before you ask. What you get instead is a tutor who can name your child's papers, their durations and their weightings before the first session.

02

Find the code before you book anything

The syllabus code appears on your child's statement of entry, on the school's examination timetable, and usually on the subject information sheet handed out at the start of Year 10. If none of those are to hand, the subject teacher will confirm it in a sentence. It is a two-minute enquiry that changes who you should be hiring.

The table below sets out the pairs that matter most in Ajman. Note that the two boards are not simply different names for the same examination. Cambridge Mathematics 0580 Extended runs two papers, a shorter structured paper and a longer one, while Pearson 4MA1 runs two papers of equal length and weight. In the sciences, Cambridge entries typically include either a practical examination or an alternative-to-practical written paper, whereas Pearson International GCSE science specifications assess practical skills within the written papers.

The second thing the table shows is that tiering is board-specific. Cambridge uses Core and Extended with different papers and different grade ceilings. Pearson Mathematics Specification A uses Foundation and Higher Tier, also with different ceilings. A tutor who assumes the wrong model will pitch the work at the wrong level for an entire term, which is worse than pitching it slightly too hard.

Take the code to any tutor you are considering, including us, and ask three things: which papers does that entry sit, how long is each, and what is the weighting. A specialist answers without looking it up. Anybody who deflects to a general statement about experience with the British curriculum has told you what you needed to know.

Core and Extended decide the ceiling, not the difficulty

Parents often read Core as the easier version of the same examination. It is more accurate to treat Core and Extended as two qualifications sharing a name. They have different papers, different content lists in several subjects, and different grade ranges, and the entry is made by the school rather than by the family.

The practical consequence is that a tier decision taken in Year 10 constrains options in Year 12. A student entered for Core in a science cannot reach the upper grades in that subject, and a sixth-form place or an A Level entry requirement expressed as a grade may therefore be out of reach before Year 11 begins. That is not a reason to push every student towards Extended; it is a reason to make the decision on evidence and to revisit it while it is still reversible.

The evidence that matters is performance on tier-appropriate past-paper questions, not an impression from classwork. A student can look comfortable in lessons and still miss the algebraic fluency that Extended assumes, and a student can look disengaged and turn out to be well inside the Extended range once the questions are unfamiliar enough to require thought. Marked past-paper work separates those cases in two sessions.

Where a family in Al Rashidiya wants that evidence, the tier review block above produces it: sampled questions at both tiers, marked against the published scheme, with a written summary for the subject teacher. The school still makes the entry. The parent simply stops arguing from feelings.

Five questions that identify a syllabus-fluent tutor

  • Ask which papers, how long, and what weighting
  • Ask where marks are lost in that specific syllabus
  • Ask which past series they would start from
  • Ask what they will refuse to do with assessed work

Credential lists are easy to assemble and hard to verify, and years of experience correlate loosely with knowing a current specification. The following five questions take four minutes on a phone call and separate a specialist from a generalist without requiring the parent to know any of the answers in advance.

First: which papers does my child sit for this entry, and how long is each one? Second: what is the weighting between them? Third: what is the single topic in this syllabus where candidates most reliably lose marks, and how do you teach it? Fourth: which past series would you start from, and why that one? Fifth: what will you not do, if I ask you to help with coursework or a controlled assessment?

The answers are revealing in their texture rather than their content. A teacher who has recently taught 0620 will say that mole calculations and ionic equations eat marks, will have a view about which series to start from, and will describe a method rather than an attitude. A generalist produces warm, general sentences about building confidence. Neither is dishonest; one of them is going to help your child in the final term and the other is not.

The fifth question matters more than it looks. The correct answer involves a refusal. A tutor who offers to produce coursework, write up an investigation or supply material to submit has offered something that puts the student's certification at risk. Hearing a clear no is a reason to continue the conversation, not to end it.

What IGCSE support costs in the Northern Emirates

Prices in this segment are badly published. Of the stronger pages ranking for these searches, three carry no figure at all, and the two that quote numbers quote US dollars. The bands below are market rates in dirhams, taken from providers' own published pages and from Bestimate's Dubai tutoring rate table, and attributed so that you can check them. They are not our price list.

Start with the monthly figure rather than the hourly one, because that is the commitment. Bestimate's monthly estimates for a single weekly hour run from AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 for a mid-tier tutor, and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist exam-year support. Advertised packages in this market include AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 a month for four in-home visits of two hours.

IGCSE rates sit below IB rates almost everywhere, and one provider makes the gap explicit: Unitors publishes IGCSE tuition from AED 150 an hour and IB from AED 200. That differential is real and it is about scarcity of teaching experience rather than difficulty. It also means an Ajman family running two IGCSE subjects is looking at a smaller monthly number than a Diploma family, which changes what is affordable in the final term.

The in-home premium is the part worth examining before paying it. Market quotes for in-home one-to-one visits run from about AED 180 to AED 500 an hour, against AED 150 to AED 300 for a qualified subject tutor online. The difference is a journey across Ajman in evening traffic. For a family in Al Rashidiya buying syllabus-specific teaching, that is money spent on transport rather than on the thing that moves the grade.

Five accredited subjects: what the Ministry of Education asks of an IGCSE certificate

Equivalency is the step families discover late, usually when a UAE university asks for it. For the British track, the published requirement is that a student passes five accredited subjects in GCSE or IGCSE certificates with a grade of no less than E or grade 3, plus one accredited subject at Advanced Level with a grade of no less than E, or two accredited subjects at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade.

The detail that catches people is the exclusion. Arabic and Islamic education are not counted among the five required subjects. That is a meaningful planning point for a student in Ajman carrying both as school requirements, because it means the five have to come from elsewhere in the timetable. One competitor page ranking in this segment tells UAE parents that six IGCSE subjects are required, which is not what the published rule says.

On the American track the same clarification sets out English proficiency through a score of 5 in the IELTS academic test, 61 in the TOEFL internet-based test, or 450 in the reading and writing section of the SAT, with mathematics requiring at least 450 in the SAT Math test. No International Baccalaureate points threshold is stated in that source, so any figure quoted for IB equivalency should be checked directly with the Ministry rather than taken from a tutoring page, including this one.

IB Gram does not perform, submit or guarantee equivalency or attestation. The process belongs to the Ministry and the relevant attestation authority, and tutoring is not a requirement of it. What a tutor can do is make sure the five subjects a student is relying on are the ones they are strongest in, which is a timetable conversation best had in Year 10 rather than Year 13.

Science practicals when the lessons happen on a screen

  • Laboratory skills come from school; assessment technique comes from practice
  • Alternative-to-practical questions are predictable in form and rarely drilled
  • Pearson embeds the same skills inside the written papers
  • Annotated shared documents beat paper for data and graph work

The reasonable objection to online science tutoring is the practical work, and it deserves a straight answer rather than reassurance. Practical skills are taught in the school laboratory, and no tutor, visiting or online, substitutes for that. What a tutor works on is the assessment of those skills, which is a written exercise in both boards and a distinct discipline from doing the experiment.

For Cambridge entries that include the alternative-to-practical paper, the work is specific and highly teachable: reading a scale correctly, tabulating with consistent significant figures, plotting with sensible axes, identifying the dependent and independent variables, naming a control, spotting the anomalous point, and writing an improvement that is actually an improvement rather than a repetition of the method. These questions are predictable in form and most students have never drilled them.

For Pearson International GCSE science specifications, practical skills are assessed within the written papers, which changes the shape of preparation rather than removing it. The same competencies appear embedded in longer questions, and a student who has practised them in isolation recognises them when they arrive in a different wrapper. This is one of the places where a tutor working from the wrong board's materials leaves a visible hole.

The screen helps more than it hinders here. A shared document with the student's own tabulated data, annotated live by the tutor, is a better teaching surface than two people leaning over a notebook. Graphs can be marked up, misread scales can be zoomed, and the finished annotated page is saved for revision. None of that is available across a dining table.

Where we tutor

Where syllabus-specific IGCSE help is hard to find in Ajman

The proximity problem is not evenly distributed. Some Ajman communities are close to schools with large British-curriculum cohorts, and some are not close to anything. The notes below describe the local supply of subject-specific IGCSE teaching rather than the commute.

Al Rashidiya

Central and well connected, with a mixed curriculum population and no large single-school cohort nearby. Core subject help is findable locally; Additional Mathematics, Computer Science and Arabic First Language are not.

Al Nuaimiya

The densest residential district in the emirate and the one with the most informal tutoring activity. Supply is genuine but almost entirely generalist, and very few advertisements name a board, let alone a syllabus code.

Al Mowaihat

Villa communities nearest the newer schools to the west of the city. More teachers live here than in the older districts, which makes maths and science cover plausible and leaves the humanities thin.

Al Rawda

Family housing with a strong pull towards Sharjah schools, so the cohort is split across Cambridge and Pearson entries in the same street. A tutor serving three houses here may be working from three different specifications.

Al Jurf

Mixed residential and institutional, with longer distances between households. In-home tutoring economics work poorly here because a visiting tutor can fit fewer students into an evening, which pushes quoted rates up.

Al Zorah

Low-density waterfront housing on the northern lagoon. Almost no local tutoring supply, and the distances make a visiting specialist unrealistic for a single weekly hour.

Emirates City

Tower blocks with a transient, multi-curriculum population. Cohorts change year to year, so word-of-mouth recommendations age quickly and a tutor recommended two years ago may now be teaching a different board.

Ajman Corniche

Seafront apartments with a notable share of teaching households, which makes it one of the better local markets for English and humanities support and no better than anywhere else for the sciences.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send the syllabus code

The code from the statement of entry, the school timetable or the subject teacher. With it we can name the papers, durations and weightings and match a tutor who has taught that specification. Without it, any match is a guess dressed as a service, which is the ordinary state of this market.

  2. 02

Say which tier the school has entered

Core or Extended for Cambridge, Foundation or Higher Tier for Pearson Mathematics. If you are not sure, or you think the decision is wrong, say that too: the tier review block exists for exactly that situation and produces marked evidence rather than an opinion.

  3. 03

Free trial lesson on a real topic

One lesson, no charge, no payment details collected first, spent on something your child is currently stuck on in that syllabus. You get a short written note afterwards naming what was done and what the tutor thinks the priority is. That note is the thing to judge, not the warmth of the hour.

  4. 04

Set the coverage plan against the syllabus

We map the remaining syllabus content against the weeks left before the series and agree what is taught, what is practised and what is accepted as a gap. For a Year 11 student in the second term, that document is more useful than any amount of general revision promise.

  5. 05

Switch to paper-shaped work eight weeks out

From roughly two months before the series, sessions move to timed papers from the correct board and series, marked against the published scheme. The syllabus code you sent at step one is what makes this step possible, which is why it is step one.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

Matched on the specification, not the subject

A tutor is proposed because they have taught 0580 Extended or 4MA1 Higher Tier, not because they teach maths. That is the single most useful filter available in this market and almost nobody applies it, because applying it means sometimes saying no.

Both boards treated as different qualifications

Cambridge and Pearson papers differ in count, weighting and the handling of practical assessment. We keep them separate in matching and in past-paper work, so a student never practises a paper structure they will not sit.

Rates you can audit

Every dirham figure on this page is attributed to the provider or rate table that published it, including the ones that make online tuition look expensive. Three of the strongest pages in this search segment publish no price at all, which is its own kind of answer.

A clear refusal on assessed work

Coursework, controlled assessments and investigations are taught, questioned and reviewed, never written or completed for the student. The refusal is the product. A service willing to cross that line is selling a certification risk alongside the lesson.

Availability stated before you commit

If no tutor for your syllabus is free in the evening slot you need, you hear that with a realistic date. Being told no in week one is cheaper than discovering in week six that the person teaching your child is working from the wrong specification.

No UAE premises, no claimed approvals

IB Gram has no office or centre in the UAE and holds no regulator or board accreditation. The permit relevant to private tutoring here is a labour authorisation issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and it certifies the right to work, not teaching quality.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Al Rashidiya, Ajman: your questions answered

Where do I find my child's IGCSE syllabus code?+

On the statement of entry the school issues before the series, on the examination timetable sent home, and usually on the subject information sheet given out at the start of Year 10. If none of those is to hand, the subject teacher will confirm it in a sentence. Codes look like 0580 for Cambridge Mathematics or 4MA1 for Pearson Edexcel Mathematics Specification A. It takes two minutes to establish and it determines which tutor is actually able to help, so it is worth the message.

Is a Cambridge tutor able to teach a Pearson Edexcel entry?+

Often, but not without preparation, and you should ask rather than assume. The content overlaps substantially; the papers do not. Cambridge Mathematics 0580 Extended runs a shorter structured paper and a longer one, while Pearson 4MA1 runs two papers of equal weight. In the sciences the handling of practical assessment differs. A tutor who has taught both will say so plainly and will name the differences. One who waves the question away is likely to prepare your child for the wrong paper shape in the final term.

Can we change my child from Core to Extended in Year 11?+

Sometimes, and it depends on the school and how late in the cycle the request comes. Entries are made by the school, and there are deadlines after which a change is not practical. The useful move is to produce evidence early: marked past-paper work at both tiers, under time, against the published scheme. That turns a disagreement into a conversation with the subject teacher. If the evidence supports the school's existing decision, you have learned something worth knowing before Year 11 rather than after it.

Which IGCSE subjects are hardest to find a local tutor for in Ajman?+

Additional Mathematics 0606, Computer Science 0478, Arabic as a First Language 0508, Economics 0455 and English Literature at the upper bands. These have small per-syllabus demand in any single neighbourhood, and Al Rashidiya's cohort is already split across two boards and schools in two emirates. Mathematics and the separate sciences are findable locally if you are willing to accept whoever is available. For the rest, removing the travel requirement is what makes a specialist reachable at all.

Does IB Gram visit homes in Al Rashidiya for IGCSE lessons?+

No. In-home tutoring is a service IB Gram offers only in India, not anywhere in the UAE. Lessons for Ajman families run live over video, one tutor to one student, on Gulf Standard Time, with the student's own papers and a shared annotation surface on screen. We target the home-tutor search term because it is what parents type, and then answer it honestly: the teaching you want is delivered without a journey. Families who need an adult physically present should hire locally instead.

How many IGCSE subjects should my child have tutoring in?+

One or two at a time, in the subjects where the gap is specific rather than general. A student receiving help in five subjects has no time left to do the work that makes the help stick, and the cost becomes a four-figure monthly commitment. If the difficulty genuinely spans most subjects, the problem is usually study method, reading speed or attendance rather than content, and a single well-chosen subject plus a study-skills focus does more than five parallel courses.

When do IGCSE candidates in Ajman actually sit their exams?+

Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level examinations in a June series and a November series for UAE candidates; the February and March series is offered to India only. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May and June and again in November. Cambridge allocates every centre to one of six administrative zones, each with its own timetable version, and warns that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who use the wrong one. Always work from the timetable your school's examinations officer issues.

How long after the November series do results arrive?+

For Pearson Edexcel International GCSE, the November series results reach students in January: the November 2025 series results reached students on 22 January 2026. June series results arrive much sooner, with June 2026 results going to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August 2026. That gap matters if a resit is being used to repair a grade for a university application, because a January result may arrive after some application deadlines have passed.

Which subjects can an Ajman student count towards the five the Ministry asks for?+

No. The published clarification of the Ministry of Education's equivalency requirements states that Arabic and Islamic education are not included among the five required subjects for the GCSE or IGCSE count. For a student in Ajman carrying both as school requirements, the five accredited subjects must therefore come from elsewhere in the timetable. One ranking competitor page tells UAE parents that six subjects are needed; the published rule says five at no less than E or grade 3. Verify with the Ministry before relying on it.

How is practical science handled if lessons are online?+

Laboratory work stays at school, where it belongs. What a tutor teaches is the written assessment of practical skills, which is a separate discipline: reading scales, tabulating to consistent significant figures, plotting sensible axes, identifying variables and controls, finding the anomaly and proposing a real improvement. Cambridge entries may include an alternative-to-practical paper where these questions appear directly; Pearson specifications embed the same competencies inside the written papers. Annotating the student's own data table on a shared screen is a better teaching surface than paper.

Can a tutor help with a controlled assessment or coursework task?+

A tutor can teach the skills the task assesses, explain the mark criteria, question a draft and point out where the evidence does not support the claim. A tutor cannot write it, rewrite it to a finished state, or supply material for submission. That boundary is not negotiable and it is in the student's interest: work that is not the student's own puts the certification itself at risk. Any service that offers to produce assessed work is selling you a problem alongside the lesson.

What is a realistic monthly cost for two IGCSE subjects in Ajman?+

Working from published market figures rather than our own pricing: a mid-tier tutor at one weekly hour per subject is estimated at AED 600 to AED 1,200 a month per subject by Bestimate's rate table, and advertised package pricing in this market includes AED 799 a month for eight online sessions. Two subjects at one hour a week is therefore a four-figure monthly commitment in most configurations. In-home delivery at AED 180 to AED 500 an hour raises that materially, and most of the increase is travel.

My child is in Year 11 with one term left. Is it worth starting now?+

Yes, with a changed plan. A single remaining term is not enough to reteach a two-year syllabus, so the work becomes triage: identify the highest-value gaps using marked past-paper evidence, drill the paper types that carry the most marks, and accept named gaps rather than pretending to cover everything. That is a different service from syllabus-led teaching and should be bought as one. A tutor who promises full coverage in a term is either not reading the calendar or not telling you the truth.

Do you cover the Cambridge International variant of Mathematics?+

Cambridge IGCSE International Mathematics, syllabus 0607, is a separate course from 0580 with a different emphasis on investigation and technology use, and some schools in the region enter students for it specifically as preparation for the International Baccalaureate. It needs a tutor who has taught that variant, not a 0580 teacher adapting. Tell us the code on the entry and we will say whether we can cover it for your slot this term, or tell you plainly that we cannot.

Which regulator oversees IGCSE schools in Ajman?+

The schools are supervised by the federal Ministry of Education, which the UAE government describes as playing a pivotal role in supervising private schools in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. The qualification itself is not regulated by any emirate authority; it is awarded by Cambridge International or Pearson. If your child attends school across the border, private education in Sharjah is regulated by the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which also approves fees, curricula, programmes, courses, activities and assessment methods.

Send the code, get a straight answer

One message is enough to start: the subject, the syllabus code from your child's entry, the tier, and the evenings that work in Al Rashidiya. We will reply with the papers that entry sits, their durations and weightings, and whether a tutor who has taught that specification is free in your window this term. If one is, the free trial lesson runs on a topic your child is genuinely stuck on, and you get a written note on what the priority should be. If one is not, you will be told that rather than offered a generalist, which is the only version of this answer worth having in February of Year 11.
