Weekend IGCSE Tutor in Abu Dhabi

A weekend IGCSE tutor in Abu Dhabi is usually bought on price before it is bought on fit, so this page starts with the arithmetic. What a two-hour Saturday block costs against two weekday hours, how the number moves between September and the June series, what a second child in the same household changes, and how the total compares with what you already pay an Abu Dhabi school. Figures are market rates with their sources. Lessons are one-to-one and online.

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

The weekend block is a pricing decision before it is a teaching decision

Most Abu Dhabi families arrive at weekend IGCSE tutoring with a weekly budget in mind rather than a component in mind. That is a reasonable way to start, and this page is built around it. The question underneath a search for a weekend IGCSE tutor in Abu Dhabi is almost always some version of: how much does a Saturday block cost, is it better value than two shorter weekday sessions, and how do I know the number I am being quoted is a sensible one for this market?

The headline answer is that a qualified online IGCSE subject tutor in the UAE market charges roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, with specialists in the harder subjects running from about AED 200 to AED 450 and above. Unitors publishes IGCSE from AED 150; Bestimate's 2026 rate table puts specialists at 200 to 450 plus; the volume platforms advertise from as little as AED 33 to AED 65. Those are other providers' published figures. The reason to put them on this page is that three of the six competitor pages ranking for tutoring searches in the UAE publish no price at all, and two of the three that do quote in US dollars.

The second answer is structural, and it is where the money is actually won or lost. A two-hour weekend block almost always carries a lower effective hourly rate than two separate one-hour weekday sessions, because the tutor prepares once, the student warms up once, and nobody spends the first ten minutes re-establishing where they were. Against that, two contacts a week consolidate technique faster in Mathematics and the sciences than one longer contact does. Which of those effects wins depends on the subject and on how far from the exam series you are, and the tables below set out both.

The third answer is about what inflates a quote in this emirate specifically. Distance does, if anyone is driving: an in-home session into Khalifa City, Yas Island or Al Shamkha at five on a Saturday carries an hour of someone's day inside the fee, which is why published in-home rates sit between roughly AED 180 and AED 500 against online's AED 150 to AED 300. Proximity to a Cambridge or Pearson series does too, because the same specialists are asked for the same weekend slots by every family at once from February onwards. Tier does: Extended costs more than Core, and the harder sciences cost more than the easier humanities.

IB Gram delivers all UAE tuition as one-to-one lessons over live video, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time. There are no home visits anywhere in the UAE; home tutoring is a service we run only in India. For a weekend slot that works in your favour on price, because the travel component disappears from the fee entirely and because the choice of tutor stops depending on who is willing to cross the mainland on a Saturday morning.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Weekend IGCSE hours get bought at three different points in a child's school career, and they are worth very different amounts at each. The cheapest effective hour is almost never the one bought last.

KS3Ages 11-14

Years 7 to 9, before the IGCSE course begins

No board, no syllabus code, no exam. What exists instead is the arithmetic and writing fluency the IGCSE will later assume. Weekend hours here are the cheapest in the whole sequence per unit of eventual benefit, because a fraction or an algebra habit fixed at thirteen costs nothing to fix and a fortune to work around at sixteen.

Abu Dhabi families rarely buy at this stage, and the enquiries that do arrive are usually prompted by a school report rather than by an exam. A single weekly hour through one term, aimed at number fluency or written structure, is the usual shape and the best value available.

IGCSEAges 14-16 · Years 10-11

Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

Two years, typically eight to ten subjects, assessed by terminal papers. Cambridge splits many subjects into Core and Extended with different grade ceilings; Pearson Edexcel runs a single tier in most subjects. The tier and the board set both the ceiling and the marking conventions, and they are the two facts that should be established before a single hour is paid for.

Most British-curriculum schools in Abu Dhabi enter with Cambridge, but Pearson Edexcel entries are common in Mathematics and the sciences, and some schools split boards by subject within a year group. Get the syllabus code from the statement of entry; a tutor teaching the wrong board's conventions is an expensive mistake.

AS/AAges 16-18 · Years 12-13

International AS and A Level

The sixth-form route most IGCSE students in Abu Dhabi continue into, assessed in June and November series with AS units that can be taken separately. It matters on a cost page because the Ministry of Education's British-track equivalency requirement is written around it, and because families budgeting for Year 11 often forget what Year 12 will ask for.

Ministry of Education equivalency on the British track asks for one accredited Advanced Level subject at grade E or above, or two at Advanced Subsidiary Level at the same grade, alongside five accredited GCSE or IGCSE subjects at no less than E or grade 3.

ResitAny age

Retakes and private candidacy

A student who needs one grade for a sixth-form place can re-enter in a later series, sometimes as a private candidate through an approved centre. The cost structure is different: entry fees to the centre, plus a short and sharply targeted block of tutoring rather than a year of weekly support.

Cambridge runs IGCSE and O Level for UAE centres in a June series and a November series; Pearson Edexcel International GCSE runs in May/June and November. Which series a retake can use depends on the subject and the centre, so confirm with the centre before planning the tutoring around it.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Rates track subject supply, and subject supply in Abu Dhabi is uneven. For each subject below, what the papers assess and where it sits in the local pricing picture.

Mathematics

Cambridge 0580 Core and Extended, Pearson 4MA1

Two papers in most entries; Extended reaches functions, transformations and harder trigonometry with a higher grade ceiling. Deep local supply, so this is the subject where rates sit lowest and where a weekend block is easiest to fill at short notice. Most lost marks come from arithmetic slips and ignored rounding instructions.

Physics

Cambridge 0625 Core and Extended, Pearson 4PH1

Electricity and waves are where most candidates lose marks, and the practical route differs between entries. Thinner supply than Mathematics, so rates sit mid to upper band. A weekend block is the only realistic place to work through a full paper with the formula sheet discipline that Physics rewards.

Chemistry

Cambridge 0620 Core and Extended, Pearson 4CH1

Mole calculations presented without working are the single largest avoidable loss, followed by organic naming. Supply is thinner again than Physics in Abu Dhabi, which puts rates at the upper end of the qualified band and makes weekend specialist slots the ones that disappear first in spring.

Biology

Cambridge 0610 Core and Extended, Pearson 4BI1

Content volume plus command-term precision, with diagram labelling worth more than candidates expect. Reasonable supply locally. Weekend time is best spent writing full long-answer responses against the mark scheme rather than reading notes, which is slow work and needs the length.

English Language

Cambridge 0500 and 0990, Pearson 4EA1

Directed writing and reading response, marked for structure and control rather than vocabulary display. Good supply, moderate rates. A weekend block earns its place here because a full piece written, marked and partly rewritten is the only process that moves a writing grade.

Economics and Business Studies

Cambridge 0455 and 0450

Data response and structured essays where application to the stimulus carries the marks. Moderate supply. Candidates lose marks offering general theory where the question named a firm or a country, which is a coachable habit rather than a knowledge problem.

Additional and Further Mathematics

Cambridge 0606 and beyond

Taken by stronger candidates alongside the main entry, and supported by a much smaller pool of tutors. Rates sit at the top of the local band for this reason. Weekend blocks suit it because the questions are long and multi-stage.

Computer Science and ICT

Cambridge 0478 and 0417

Pseudocode conventions, logic and a practical component depending on the entry. Supply is patchy in Abu Dhabi and uneven in quality, since coding ability and specification knowledge are different things. Check that a tutor knows the board's pseudocode style before paying.

Geography and History

Cambridge 0460 and 0470

Case-study specificity and source evaluation. A named place with figures earns marks; a described region does not. Supply is reasonable and rates sit in the middle band, but quality varies most here because the subjects look easier to teach than they are.

Arabic as a first and additional language

Both tracks

A Ministry-mandated subject in UAE private schools, running beside the licensed curriculum and examined on its own terms. The tutor pool barely overlaps with the subject-tutor pool, and weekend slots are the usual route because the week has no room left.

Combined and Coordinated Sciences

Cambridge 0653 and 0654

Three sciences compressed into a smaller entry, which changes what can be dropped and what cannot. Families often buy single-science tutoring for a combined-science candidate and pay for content that is not on the entry. Confirm the syllabus code first.

French and Spanish

Cambridge 0520 and 0530

Four skills with a speaking component that students practise last. Supply in Abu Dhabi is thin for Spanish in particular, which pushes rates up. Weekend blocks suit the speaking preparation, which needs a full rehearsal rather than a quick run-through.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three formats, three price structures. The cheapest per hour is not always the cheapest per grade, and the difference is worth understanding before a package is bought.

The weekend block, paid hourly

One two-hour slot each weekend, paid as you go, no commitment. The most flexible arrangement and the right way to start, because it lets you stop without argument if the fit is wrong. The effective hourly rate is higher than a block booking, which is the price of flexibility and usually worth paying for the first month.

  • No package, no minimum, stop whenever
  • Same tutor and slot held while you continue
  • Highest effective hourly rate of the three
  • The right format for the first four to six sessions

A booked block of weekend sessions

A defined number of sessions bought together, typically six to twelve, which prices lower per hour and produces better teaching because the tutor can plan a sequence rather than react weekly. Worth moving to once a trial and a few paid sessions have shown the arrangement works. Not worth buying before you have met the tutor.

  • Lower effective hourly rate than ad hoc hours
  • A planned sequence rather than week-by-week reaction
  • Best timed to a defined run before a series
  • Ask about the pause and cancellation terms before paying

Small-group weekend revision

Two to four students sharing a slot and a rate, which lowers the per-student cost substantially. It works when every student in the group sits the same board, the same tier and roughly the same target grade. It works badly otherwise, because the session drifts towards the weakest or the strongest and your child pays for somebody else's gaps.

  • Lowest cost per student of the three formats
  • Only effective when board, tier and target match
  • Suits final-stretch paper practice rather than diagnosis
  • Ask who else is in the group before agreeing

What IB and IGCSE study actually looks like in Abu Dhabi

01

The arithmetic: one weekend block against two weekday hours

This is the comparison almost every Abu Dhabi family makes, usually in their head and usually without the numbers written down. Written down, it resolves fairly clearly, and the answer depends on the subject rather than on the budget.

On price, the block wins. A two-hour weekend session typically prices below two separate hourly sessions in the same market band, because the tutor's preparation and the student's warm-up amortise across more teaching minutes. In the qualified online band of AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, families generally see the effective rate for a booked two-hour block land nearer the lower half of that range, while single ad hoc hours sit nearer the upper half. The saving is real but modest, usually ten to twenty per cent.

On teaching, it splits by subject. Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry reward two contacts a week in Year 10 and early Year 11, because the technique only sticks through practice and a four-day gap between contacts beats an eight-day one. English, the humanities and the longer-answer subjects reward the block, because a full piece of writing produced, marked and partly rewritten is the process that moves those grades, and it does not fit in an hour. In the final two months before a series, every subject reverts to the block, because what matters then is complete papers sat to time.

On reliability, the weekend block wins decisively in this emirate, and reliability is worth more than either of the first two factors. A weekday session at five in the afternoon competes with traffic, activities and a tired child; a Saturday or Sunday slot competes with family plans but not with the school day. A slot that runs forty times in a year teaches more than a better-designed slot that runs twenty-five times, and the published rate on the unreliable one is a fiction.

Counting the weekends backwards from the exam series

The most useful thing a parent can do with a calendar is count weekends rather than weeks, because a weekend slot is the unit you are actually buying. A family starting in late September for a June series has around thirty weekends before the papers, minus winter and spring breaks and minus the weekends nobody will realistically use. Starting in February leaves fewer than fifteen. The difference in price per weekend is small; the difference in what those weekends can achieve is enormous.

The board calendars give the fixed points, and they are published. Cambridge International runs IGCSE and O Level exams in a June series and a November series, and for an Abu Dhabi centre those are the only two windows a candidate can actually sit; the Primary and Lower Secondary Checkpoint tests that run in March, May and October are a different qualification and are not IGCSE papers. Count the June series backwards and the shape of the year is obvious. Entries close in the spring, roughly four months ahead of the first paper, with the exact deadline printed on the centre's statement of entry rather than in any tutoring brochure, which means the decision that fixes your child's tier is taken while the weekends still feel abundant. Ask the examinations officer for that date in writing during the autumn term, and treat it as the real start of the plan.

Pearson Edexcel International GCSE exams are available in May/June and November each year, and the November 2026 final timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026. June 2026 results went to centres on 19 August 2026 and to students on 20 August; November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Pearson also publishes provisional timetables ahead of each series, which is why any plan should link the live official timetable rather than rely on a restated date that can be revised.

One Cambridge administrative detail catches UAE families out and is worth checking before you plan weekends around a date. Every centre is allocated to one of six administrative zones, and Cambridge states that it is essential to use the correct version of the timetable for your zone, adding that it cannot accept responsibility for candidates who miss an exam after using the wrong zone timetable. Ask your school's examinations officer which zone the centre sits in, then build the weekend plan on that timetable.

What moves the number up, and what moves it down

  • Up: Extended over Core, scarce subjects, late booking, in-home delivery, single ad hoc hours
  • Down: online delivery, longer blocks, booked runs, group sharing, early booking
  • Neutral: the tutor's own description of their results, which nobody audits
  • Never a reason to pay more: a promise about the grade, which nobody can deliver

A weekend IGCSE quote in Abu Dhabi can vary by two hundred dirhams an hour for the same named subject, and the variation is not random. Six things explain nearly all of it, and every one of them is something you can ask about before committing.

Tier and subject scarcity move it up. Extended costs more than Core because the ceiling is higher and the teaching is harder. Within the sciences, Chemistry and Physics specialists are thinner on the ground in this emirate than Mathematics or Biology, and Additional Mathematics, Spanish and the board-specific Computer Science entries are thinner again. Scarcity is a supply fact rather than a quality claim, which is why a high rate is not by itself evidence of a better tutor.

Timing moves it up sharply, and this is the lever most families pull in the wrong direction. From February onwards, every household in Abu Dhabi with a Year 11 candidate is looking for the same weekend slots in the same handful of subjects. Booking a September weekend costs less per hour than booking a March one and achieves considerably more, because in September the tier decision is still open and habits are still formable. Format moves it down: online removes the travel component that puts in-home rates between AED 180 and AED 500.

Commitment and session length move it down. A booked run of sessions prices below ad hoc hours, and a two-hour block prices below two singles. Group sharing moves it down furthest of all, at the cost of the diagnosis being shared too. What should never move the number is a promise about outcomes: no tutor at any rate controls the examiner, the cohort or the boundaries, and a quote justified by a predicted grade is a quote justified by something the seller cannot deliver.

04

The tier decision that sets the ceiling, and what it costs to change

  • Tier is fixed at entry, months before the paper is sat
  • Core to Extended is a term's work, not a block's
  • Decide from a marked mock, not from a target
  • Confirm the receiving school's actual requirement in writing
  • Check whether the entry uses the practical or the alternative-to-practical paper

In Cambridge subjects split into Core and Extended, the tier your child is entered for sets the maximum grade available, and the decision is made at entry rather than at the exam. Entries for the June series close in the spring, months before the first paper, and the exact deadline sits on the centre's statement of entry, so by the time the exam period opens the ceiling has already been chosen. Families who treat tutoring as an exam-season purchase often discover that ceiling after it has been fixed.

The cost of moving a child from Core to Extended is not mainly the tutoring; it is the time. Extended covers additional content and expects a different level of algebraic and analytical confidence, so a student moving up needs the extra material taught and then practised, which is a term's work rather than a block's. Done from September, it is a reasonable project. Attempted in January, it usually produces a student sitting a harder paper less well prepared, which is worse than a strong Core entry.

The decision should be made from evidence rather than ambition, and the evidence is a marked mock sat under proper conditions. A candidate comfortably above the Core ceiling on the Core paper has a case for moving. A candidate scraping the top of Core has a case for staying and converting that into a secure grade. What should not drive the decision is a sixth-form entry requirement expressed as a wish: ask the receiving school what it actually requires, in writing, before changing the entry.

The same evidence logic applies to the practical route in the sciences. Depending on the entry, candidates sit either a practical examination or an alternative-to-practical paper, and they reward different preparation. Weekend sessions aimed at the wrong one are hours spent on the wrong paper, which happens more often than it should because the syllabus code is never checked. Get the code and the component list from the statement of entry, then plan the hours.

05

Weekend tutoring set against what an Abu Dhabi family already pays

Tutoring is rarely assessed against the rest of the education budget, which makes it feel either trivially small or alarmingly large depending on the month. Setting it in context helps, and the context in Abu Dhabi is a private school sector where fee changes are regulated: schools apply to ADEK for tuition increases rather than setting them freely, which is a useful reminder that tutoring sits entirely outside that framework and is priced by the market alone.

On a per-hour basis, weekend tutoring looks expensive next to a school fee divided by teaching hours. On a per-outcome basis the comparison is meaningless, because the two things do different jobs: the school teaches the course, and a tutor works on the specific places an individual student loses marks. The useful comparison is internal, between the tutoring options available to you, and the honest framing is that a modest number of well-targeted weekend hours generally beats a larger number of unfocused ones.

Bestimate's published monthly estimates for weekly one-hour sessions give a reasonable planning band: roughly AED 240 to 600 a month at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 in the middle, and AED 1,000 to 2,000 and above for specialist exam-year support. Advertised UAE packages show the same shape from another angle, with around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions against AED 1,599 to 1,799 for four in-home double sessions. Per hour of teaching, the in-home package is roughly double the online one, and the difference is travel.

The table below is a planning frame rather than a price list. IB Gram does not publish a rate card on these pages; your rate is confirmed before any paid session and the first lesson is free with no card held. What the table is for is deciding how many weekend hours a year actually requires, which is a question most families answer by accident in February rather than on purpose in September.

Questions to ask before you pay for a weekend slot

  • Which board, syllabus code, tier and papers does my child actually sit?
  • What is the cancellation window, and does the rate move before the series?
  • What does a two-hour block cost per hour against a single hour?
  • What would you do with a marked mock in the first session?
  • Any grade promise, approval claim or offer of assessed work: walk away

Because nothing in this market is audited, price only becomes meaningful next to a set of questions whose answers are hard to improvise. These are the ones that separate a tutor who knows the specification from one who knows the subject, and they take about ten minutes.

Start with the entry. Which board and syllabus code does my child sit, which tier, and which papers? A tutor who cannot answer from the statement of entry you sent them has not read it. Then the mechanics: what is the cancellation window, does the rate change as the series approaches, what does a two-hour block cost per hour against a single hour, and is anything charged beyond teaching time? Those four questions remove almost every unpleasant surprise that arrives in month two.

Then the teaching. What would you do with a marked mock in the first session? The answer you want involves reading the mark scheme against the script and attributing each lost mark to a cause, not re-teaching the topic. How do you handle command terms? A tutor who talks about understanding rather than about instruction vocabulary will spend your weekends re-explaining content your child already has.

Finally, the things that should end a conversation. Any promise about a grade, because no tutor controls the examiner or the boundaries. Any claim of approval, accreditation or partnership with Cambridge, Pearson, ADEK, KHDA or the Ministry of Education, which for individual tutors is almost never checkable on the body's own register. Any offer to supply mark schemes, unreleased papers or completed coursework, which is a copyright or malpractice problem that lands on your child rather than on the seller.

Who is permitted to tutor privately in the UAE

  • Private tuition work permit: Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, issued by MoHRE
  • Free of charge, two years' validity, two working days to issue
  • University students and students aged 15-18 are explicitly eligible
  • Teachers may not take paid lessons with students from their own school
  • No fine amounts are published anywhere, so none should be quoted

A weekend tutor is subject to exactly the same rules as a weekday one, and the rules here are clearer than most of this market. Private tuition in the UAE runs on a work permit introduced by Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023 and issued through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. It is granted free of charge for two years. MoHRE's own service page for it lists no fee and a two-working-day completion time, applied for through its smart app, website or e-services system.

Who may hold it is broader than parents assume: teachers registered in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, university students, and school students aged fifteen to eighteen. Anyone offering private tutoring without a permit is subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws. No fine schedule has been published, which is why no amount appears on this page and why any page quoting one is quoting something unverified.

Abu Dhabi adds a restriction that matters most at weekends, because weekends are when a school teacher's spare hours sit. ADEK's professional-ethics rules for private and charter school staff prohibit teachers from providing paid private tutoring to students enrolled at their own school, and the MoHRE permit's code of conduct carries a similar bar. This is press-reported rather than quoted from the policy document here, so verify the current wording with ADEK before relying on it. The working rule for a parent is to look outside your child's own school.

A centre with premises and staff needs an educational services permit from the emirate regulator, which is a different thing again from an individual tutor's permit and is not a quality rating. IB Gram holds no such permit and claims none. It is an independent matching platform, delivery is online and one-to-one, and no tutor on this site is described as approved, accredited or licensed by ADEK, KHDA, the Ministry of Education, Cambridge or Pearson.

08

When to stop buying weekend hours

  • Same error in three sets of notes: change the diagnosis, not the hours
  • Notes listing coverage rather than corrections: the slot has drifted
  • Nothing marked arriving each weekend: the slot is replacing study, not supporting it
  • Student bringing their own analysis: move to a monthly review
  • No specialist free: we say so rather than substituting one

A weekend slot costs a family more than its fee, because it takes a block out of the two days a Year 10 or Year 11 student has for rest and everything else. That is worth paying while the hours are fixing identifiable things, and it stops being worth paying the moment they are not. A tutor who will tell you that is worth more than one who will not, and it is a fair question to ask at the outset.

The signals are readable without knowing the subject. If three consecutive session notes describe the same error, either the diagnosis is wrong or the practice between sessions is not happening, and buying more hours changes neither. If the notes describe topics covered rather than mistakes corrected, the session has become a lecture. If your child arrives each weekend with nothing marked, the slot has replaced independent work instead of supporting it, which is the most expensive failure mode available.

There is a positive stopping point too, and families resist it. When a student starts arriving with their own marked script and their own account of where the marks went, the tutoring has done its job. The right move then is a monthly review rather than a weekly block, and the weekend goes back to the student. For a Year 11 candidate in the spring, that is not a minor benefit.

If no UAE-based specialist is free in the subject, tier and weekend slot you need, we say so rather than putting a generalist into the block at a specialist rate. A generalist in a two-hour weekend session is worse value than a shorter session with the right person and considerably worse than waiting a fortnight. That disclosure is the thing this market does not publish, and it is why the first lesson is free and takes no card.

Where we tutor

What a weekend slot costs by community

The in-home premium is not evenly spread across Abu Dhabi, and neither is weekend availability. These are the communities we schedule into and what the local market looks like in each.

Al Reem Island

Short bridge to the island's schools, so in-home quotes sit closest to the base market band here. Early Saturday weekend slots fill first because apartment households want the structure before the day fragments.

Khalifa City and Al Raha

The largest source of weekend enquiries in the emirate and the clearest in-home premium: a Saturday afternoon crossing of the mainland adds the better part of an hour each way to a tutor's day.

Saadiyat Island

Quoted in-home rates run at the top of the published band because the drive is long for anyone not already on Saadiyat. Weekend demand skews to Sunday, since Saturday competes with sport and beach commitments.

Yas Island

A growing school-age population with almost no resident tutor supply, so in-home weekend availability is the thinnest in the emirate and online slots are accepted quickest.

Al Mushrif and Al Karamah

Central, close to several large British-curriculum schools, and the deepest local tutor pool in Abu Dhabi. It is also where weekend group classes are most often offered as the lower-cost alternative.

Al Bateen and the western island

Older villa districts with bilingual households, where a weekend often splits between subject work and Arabic as a first language. Two separate hires rather than one is the usual honest answer.

Al Shamkha and Al Falah

Long distances from the island's supply, so in-home quotes into these communities sit at the ceiling of the published range when they are offered at all. Online removes the premium entirely.

Masdar City and Al Ghadeer

Small, scattered school-age populations with no local specialist pool to price against. Weekend scheduling here is set purely by family routine rather than by anyone's travel.

School ecosystem

IB and Cambridge school communities we support in Abu Dhabi

The central island and Al Mushrif

Large IGCSE year groups in long-established schools, with school-run revision provision that private weekend work should complement rather than duplicate. Ask what the school already offers before buying hours.

  • The British International School Abu Dhabi
  • Al Mamoura Academy
  • Abu Dhabi International School
  • Al Muna Academy
  • Merryland International School

Khalifa City, Al Raha and the eastern mainland

The widest curriculum mix in the emirate, which means households here often need two boards supported at once and benefit most from block rather than hourly pricing.

  • Al Yasmina Academy
  • Raha International School
  • GEMS American Academy Abu Dhabi
  • Amity International School Abu Dhabi

The islands: Saadiyat, Al Reem and Yas

Smaller year groups and a high proportion of mid-year arrivals, so weekend blocks here are frequently bought to close a transition gap rather than to support a whole course.

  • Cranleigh Abu Dhabi
  • Repton Abu Dhabi
  • West Yas Academy
  • Brighton College Abu Dhabi

Schools are named here only as context for the IGCSE provision in each part of Abu Dhabi. IB Gram is an independent tutor-matching platform with no affiliation to, endorsement from or contract with any school, group, examination board or regulator named on this page.

How matching works

From first enquiry to a tutor who fits

  1. 01

    Send the statement of entry

Board, syllabus code, tier and papers, straight from the school's statement of entry rather than from memory. This single document removes the commonest expensive error in IGCSE tutoring, which is paying for content that is not on your child's entry or for the wrong practical route.

  2. 02

Say what the weekend budget and the weekend slot are

Tell us the hours you can commit and the time you can actually hold. We would rather design one reliable two-hour block around a real constraint than quote for an arrangement that will be cancelled twice a month and cost the same.

  3. 03

    Add whatever is already marked

A marked mock, a returned paper with a teacher comment, or a report with grades by paper. One marked script tells a specialist more than a conversation, and it means the free trial lesson is spent diagnosing rather than establishing the starting point.

  4. 04

    Take the free trial lesson

A full lesson, no payment and no card held. Your child should leave with one thing fixed; you should leave knowing whether this tutor can read a mark scheme against a script. The rate is confirmed before anything is paid, and no package is required to continue.

  5. 05

Move to a block only once it is working

Pay hourly for the first few weeks, then convert to a booked run if the session notes show progress. Blocks price lower per hour and teach better, but buying one before you have evidence is paying for commitment you cannot yet justify.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

The price conversation happens first

Market bands are published on this page with their sources, and your own rate is confirmed before the first paid session. Nothing is quoted after a trial lesson has been used to build pressure, and no package is required before you have met the tutor.

No travel inside the fee

Delivery is online and one-to-one, so the AED 30 to AED 200 of in-home premium that pays for a crossing into Khalifa City or Yas Island is simply not in the number. The same money buys more hours or a scarcer specialist.

Board and tier checked before hours are sold

We ask for the syllabus code and the component list before matching, because a tutor teaching the wrong board's conventions or the wrong practical route is the most common way weekend money gets wasted in this market.

Every figure attributed

Rates on this page are other providers' published prices or Bestimate's 2026 rate table, named and dated. Exam dates come from Cambridge and Pearson's own pages. Nothing is asserted that cannot be checked, and no statistic appears without a source.

Scheduled to an Abu Dhabi weekend

Sessions are set in Gulf Standard Time around the Saturday and Sunday weekend, activities and travel, and shift to post-Iftar timing during Ramadan. The same tutor keeps the same slot through the term.

An exit rather than a contract

Hourly or block, your choice, and you can stop. We would rather tell you the hours have done their job than keep selling them, which is why session notes are written to show what is left to fix.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What does a two-hour weekend IGCSE block cost against two weekday hours?+

A booked two-hour block usually prices ten to twenty per cent below two separate hourly sessions in the same market band, because the tutor prepares once and the student warms up once. In the qualified online band of AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, families generally see block rates land in the lower half of that range and ad hoc single hours in the upper half. Those are market figures from published sources rather than our price list. The saving is real but modest; the bigger difference is what fits inside two uninterrupted hours.

How many weekends are there between September and the June IGCSE series?+

Roughly thirty, before you subtract winter and spring breaks, travel, and the weekends nobody will realistically use, which usually leaves the low twenties. Starting in February leaves fewer than fifteen. Counting weekends rather than weeks is worth doing because the weekend block is the unit you are buying, and it makes the cost of delay concrete: the per-weekend price barely changes between September and February, but what a September weekend can achieve is far greater, because the tier decision is still open.

Can two siblings sitting IGCSEs share a weekend tutoring budget?+

They can share a weekend, and often should, but sharing a session only works when both sit the same board, the same tier and roughly the same target. Otherwise the hour drifts to whichever child is further behind and the other pays for it. The arrangement that usually works in Abu Dhabi households is back-to-back blocks on the same morning with the same or different tutors, which keeps one disruption to the weekend instead of two and sometimes attracts a lower effective rate for the combined booking.

Does a weekend IGCSE package usually work out cheaper per hour?+

Yes, and it usually teaches better too, because a tutor with a committed run of sessions can plan a sequence instead of reacting weekly. The caution is what you buy before you have evidence. Pay hourly for the first four to six sessions, read the notes, then convert to a block. Before paying for any package, ask three things: what the cancellation window is, whether sessions can be paused around exams and travel, and what happens to unused sessions. A package that cannot be paused is a worse deal than its hourly rate suggests.

What should I pay for IGCSE Extended support at a weekend in Abu Dhabi?+

Published market rates for a qualified online IGCSE tutor run about AED 150 to AED 300 an hour, with harder-subject specialists from roughly AED 200 to AED 450 and above. Unitors advertises IGCSE from AED 150 and TutorChase lists AED 270; Bestimate's 2026 table puts specialists at 200 to 450 plus. Extended sits above Core within whatever band a tutor occupies, and Chemistry, Physics and Additional Mathematics sit above Mathematics and Biology because local supply is thinner. Those are other providers' figures; ours is confirmed before any paid session.

How many IGCSE subjects can one weekend realistically support?+

Two, properly, and three only if the sessions are short and narrowly targeted. A two-hour block covers one subject well: a paper sat to time and marked, or a full piece of writing produced and reworked. Splitting the same block across three subjects produces twenty-five useful minutes each, and the second and third inherit whatever the first overran. Families with four weak subjects are usually better served by picking the two closest to a grade boundary and leaving the others to school provision for a term.

Is a weekend group class cheaper than one-to-one for IGCSE revision?+

Substantially cheaper per student, and genuinely useful in the right conditions. Those conditions are strict: everyone in the group sits the same board, the same tier and roughly the same target grade, and the session is paper practice rather than diagnosis. Where the group is mixed, the hour drifts towards the weakest or the strongest and your child pays for somebody else's gaps. Ask who else is in the group and what entry they sit before agreeing. For diagnosis, individual time is the only format that works.

When do weekend IGCSE slots start getting expensive in the year?+

From February onwards, and the mechanism is simple scarcity rather than opportunism. Every Abu Dhabi household with a Year 11 candidate starts looking for the same weekend slots in the same handful of subjects at the same time, and the specialist pool in this emirate is small. Rates firm up and availability narrows together. A September booking costs less per hour and achieves more, because the tier decision is still open and command-term habits are still forming. If you are reading this in March, book narrow and specific rather than broad.

Which exam series should an Abu Dhabi weekend plan be counted back from?+

The June series, with November held as the resit route. Cambridge offers IGCSE and O Level to UAE centres in June and November only; the Cambridge series that runs in February and March is offered to India, so no Abu Dhabi weekend plan should be built on it. Counted backwards from June, a family starting in late September has roughly thirty usable weekends, entries close in the spring with the tier decision settled before them, and results arrive in the summer in good time to enter the November series if a retake is needed. If your centre uses Pearson Edexcel instead, the published anchors are firmer: the November 2026 International GCSE timetable runs from late October to 19 November 2026, and November 2025 results reached students on 22 January 2026. Confirm which series your centre enters for, and which of Cambridge's six administrative zones it sits in, before planning weekends around any date.

Does my child need the practical paper or the alternative to practical?+

It depends on the entry, and it is on the statement of entry rather than being a matter of preference. The two components reward different preparation: one assesses laboratory technique and recording under supervision, the other assesses understanding of experimental method through written questions. Weekend sessions aimed at the wrong one are hours spent on the wrong paper, which happens more often than it should because nobody checks the syllabus code. Ask the examinations officer for the code and the full component list, then plan the hours around what is actually being sat.

Should we move from Core to Extended, and what does that cost in tutoring?+

Decide from a marked mock sat under proper conditions, not from a target. A candidate comfortably above the Core ceiling has a case for moving; one scraping the top of Core usually does better converting that into a secure grade. The real cost is time rather than money: Extended covers extra content and expects more analytical confidence, so a move is a term's work. Done from September it is reasonable. Attempted in January it tends to produce a student sitting a harder paper less well prepared, which is the worse outcome.

What is a fair cancellation policy for a weekend tutoring slot?+

Twenty-four hours' notice either way is the common standard and a reasonable one, since a weekend slot cancelled on the morning cannot be refilled. What to watch for is asymmetry: a policy that charges you for a late cancellation but offers nothing when the tutor cancels is not a policy, it is a term of trade. Ask what happens if your child is ill, whether a missed session can be made up within the month, and whether sessions can be paused during the exam series itself. Get the answers before the first paid session rather than after.

How does weekend IGCSE tutoring compare with what we pay in school fees?+

Different jobs, so a per-hour comparison misleads. Abu Dhabi private school fees sit inside a regulated framework where schools apply to ADEK for increases; tutoring sits entirely outside that and is priced by the market. The useful comparison is internal: Bestimate's monthly estimates for a weekly hour run about AED 240 to 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to 1,200 mid-range and AED 1,000 to 2,000 plus for specialist exam-year support. Judge a tutoring spend against other tutoring options and against what the school already provides free.

Can weekend IGCSE sessions run during the exam series itself?+

They can, and sometimes a short session between papers helps with timing and nerves rather than content. More often the honest advice is to stop. By the time the series opens, new material cannot be absorbed usefully, and a weekend spent on a two-hour session is a weekend not spent resting before Monday's paper. Where sessions continue, keep them short, keep them to papers already sat, and plan the finish date in advance so the slot ends deliberately rather than drifting into the final fortnight.

Is it worth paying for a weekend tutor in Year 10, or should we wait for Year 11?+

Year 10 is better value and almost nobody buys it. In Year 10 the tier decision is still fully open, content gaps can be closed without exam pressure, and the habits that cost marks across every paper, such as showing method and reading command terms, are still forming. In Year 11 the same money buys technique polishing on a narrower base. If the budget allows only one year of weekend support, take Year 10 and keep a short targeted block for the spring of Year 11.

Send the entry, the budget and the slot you can hold

The fastest way to a sensible quote is to stop asking what tutoring costs in general and start asking what your child's entry needs. Send the board, the syllabus code, the tier, whatever has already been marked, and the weekend time your family can realistically keep. We will tell you which specialists cover it, whether a two-hour block or two shorter sessions suits the subject, and the rate before anything is paid. The first lesson is free and takes no card. Lessons are one-to-one over live video in Gulf Standard Time; there are no home visits anywhere in the UAE.
