IB Home Tutor Fees in Abu Dhabi

IB home tutor fees in Abu Dhabi are quoted as one number and built from four: the teaching hour, the tutor's travel, what gets marked between sessions, and the cancellation terms nobody reads until they need them. This page takes the quote apart in AED, prices the commute from each corridor of the emirate, shows what a 60-minute and a 90-minute session can genuinely cover, and sets tuition against school fees and examination entry. Figures are market rates with sources named. IB Gram teaches one-to-one over live video, so no travel is billed.

  • Every AED figure here is a market rate with its source named
  • Travel time priced per corridor, because that is half the quote
  • No travel is billed on an online session, because none happens
  • Trial lesson is 45 minutes, free, with no card details taken

IB & IGCSE in Abu Dhabi

A quote is four costs wearing one number

When a tutor in Abu Dhabi says AED 350 an hour, that figure is carrying several things at once and the proportions change dramatically depending on where you live. Part of it is the teaching hour itself. Part of it is the time the tutor spends driving to Saadiyat or out to Al Reef and back, which is unpaid unless it is inside the rate. Part of it is the marking and preparation done between sessions, which some tutors include and others quietly do not. And part of it is the risk the tutor carries on cancellations, which is why a flexible arrangement always costs more per hour than a committed term.

Market figures for this emirate are reasonably well established even though almost nobody publishes them. In-home one-to-one tuition in the UAE runs roughly AED 180 to AED 350 an hour in Bestimate's 2026 survey of tutoring costs, with independent home tutors quoting AED 200 to AED 500. Qualified tutors working online sit at roughly AED 150 to AED 300, with Unitors publishing IGCSE from AED 150 and IB from AED 200. Budget platforms start lower: EdFlik from AED 45 to AED 65, Tutopiya from AED 33 to AED 52. Specialist IB and A Level cover runs AED 200 to AED 450 and above, TutorChase publishes AED 270 and BartyED AED 650. None of these are IB Gram prices; they are the market you are shopping in.

The gap between the in-home band and the online band is not a quality gap. It is mostly a transport gap. A tutor crossing from the mainland to the island for a single 60-minute lesson has committed two to two and a half hours of their working day, and no rational person prices that at one hour. Understanding this makes the whole market legible: the premium you pay for a visit buys presence in the room, not better teaching, and the same money buys more teaching hours or a scarcer specialist if you remove the car from the equation.

There is a second thing fees are quietly buying, and it is the one parents most often fail to ask about. A session where the tutor has already read and marked the student's work is a different product from a session where the first twenty minutes are spent finding out what happened last week. The first costs the tutor unbilled time and shows up as a higher hourly figure. The second looks cheaper per hour and delivers perhaps two thirds of the teaching. Ask explicitly whether marking between sessions is included, because the answer separates two things being sold at similar prices.

The rest of this page prices the pieces. A rate card by programme and level with the in-home and online columns side by side. A travel table for the real Abu Dhabi corridors, because a Khalifa City family and an Al Khalidiyah family are not shopping in the same market. What a 60 and a 90-minute session can actually finish, by assessment component. Tuition set against school fees and examination entry. And the extras that appear on a second invoice. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi; lessons are delivered one-to-one over live video, which is also why there is no travel line in anything we quote.

IB programmes

Every IB programme stage, mapped to UAE school years

Fees track the programme because the assessment stakes track the programme. A Diploma hour and a Primary Years hour are priced differently in every rate card in this market, and the reason is what the hour has to achieve rather than how hard it is to teach.

DPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Diploma Programme

The most expensive hour in any Abu Dhabi rate card, because externally marked papers and a fixed two-year window remove the option of trying again next term. Six subjects at Higher and Standard Level plus Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and creativity, activity, service, with a 45-point ceiling of which three points come from the core.

Diploma fees in Abu Dhabi peak twice a year rather than rising steadily: once in the autumn when DP2 families realise the Internal Assessments are real, and again in February and March when the session is close. Booking either six weeks earlier than the peak usually buys the same person at a mid-band rate.

MYPAges 11-16 · Years 7-11

Middle Years Programme

Lower hourly figures across the market and a longer sensible horizon. Eight subject groups assessed against four criteria each on a 0-8 scale, with no external papers for most students, so the measurable return on an hour is slower and less dramatic than at Diploma level.

This is where Abu Dhabi families get the best value per dirham, and where most of them do not spend. A Year 9 student whose criterion marks are fixed before the Diploma starts needs far fewer paid hours in DP1 and DP2, which is the cheapest Diploma strategy available and the least popular.

PYPAges 3-12 · FS1-Year 6

Primary Years Programme

The lowest band in every rate card. Inquiry-based units with no graded examinations, so support is numeracy fluency, reading and writing stamina, and the mandatory Arabic and Islamic Education strands running alongside the licensed curriculum.

Paying a Diploma specialist rate for primary support is the most common overspend seen among Abu Dhabi families. A capable primary teacher who understands inquiry reporting does more for a Year 4 student, at a fraction of the figure, than any subject expert.

CPAges 16-19 · Years 12-13

Career-related Programme

Diploma courses plus a career-related study, a reflective project and a personal and professional skills course. Fees generally follow the Diploma band for the DP subject components and are negotiated individually for the career-related elements, which few tutors cover.

Because so few Abu Dhabi schools run this programme, there is effectively no local price benchmark. Families should expect to negotiate rather than compare, and to source the reflective project support online.

Subject coverage

IB and IGCSE subjects we tutor

Fee levels differ by subject in this market, and the reason is usually what the assessment demands rather than how difficult the content is. Each note below names where marks are actually lost, because that is what determines how many paid hours a subject needs.

History

HL and SL

Marks are lost to narrative. Paper 2 and Paper 3 reward argument built from evidence, and students who know the period well frequently write chronology instead. The Internal Assessment is a 2,200-word investigation with a distinct source-evaluation section that is routinely under-written. Mid-band fees, high hours.

Geography

HL and SL

Case-study recall is cheap to fix and command-term handling is not. The fieldwork Internal Assessment needs supervision at the design stage rather than the writing stage, which means hours spent early are worth more than hours spent late. Mid-band fees locally.

Global Politics

HL and SL

The engagement activity and, at Higher Level, the oral presentations carry marks students rarely rehearse. Lost marks come from describing a case rather than using it as evidence for a claim about a political concept. Fewer tutors cover it in Abu Dhabi, so fees run above the humanities average.

Environmental Systems and Societies

SL and HL

A transdisciplinary course where students lose marks by answering as scientists and ignoring the societies half, or the reverse. The Internal Assessment requires a genuine investigation rather than secondary data, and getting that decision right early saves several paid hours later.

Business Management

HL and SL

Tool application, not definitions. Students who can draw a framework but not apply it to the case study sit in the middle band indefinitely. One of the cheapest IB subjects to find cover for in Abu Dhabi, so the rate should be at the lower end of any quote you receive.

English B

HL and SL

Writing task register and the individual oral are where the marks go, not vocabulary. Many Abu Dhabi students are fluent speakers who lose marks on text-type conventions, which is a short, cheap fix with the right tutor and an expensive one with the wrong one.

Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation

HL and SL

Modelling language and calculator technique decide more marks than algebra. Students arriving from American middle schools often meet the modelling vocabulary for the first time here. Plentiful cover at Standard Level in Abu Dhabi, which keeps fees moderate.

Chemistry

SL and HL

Standard Level cover is widely available; Higher Level is not, and the fee gap between them in this emirate is wider than for any other science. Marks are lost in energetics and in organic mechanisms, and the Internal Assessment variable choice drives the final criterion scores.

Physics

SL and HL

The highest-fee science locally because Higher Level cover is thin. Lost marks are predictable: dropped units in multi-step problems, and extended responses where the physics is correct but no principle is stated before the algebra.

Sports, Exercise and Health Science

SL and HL

Content volume and a practical investigation. Students lose marks by treating the physiology as biology and skipping the application to performance. Very few Abu Dhabi tutors cover it, so expect individually negotiated fees rather than a rate card.

How sessions run

Tutoring formats built around UAE school timetables

Three ways of buying IB support in Abu Dhabi, priced differently for structural reasons. IB Gram delivers only the first in the UAE; the other two are described so that a comparison can be made with real figures rather than assumptions.

Online one-to-one, weekly

A fixed weekly slot with a subject specialist over live video, with the student's work marked between sessions. Market rates for qualified online tutors run roughly AED 150 to AED 300 an hour and specialists higher. There is no travel component because nobody travels, which is the entire reason this band sits below the in-home band.

  • No travel line in the quote, because no travel occurs
  • Marked work returned before the next session
  • Specialist chosen by course and level rather than by distance
  • Monthly package figures seen in this market from around AED 799 for eight sessions

In-home one-to-one visit

A tutor travels to the family's home. Market rates run roughly AED 180 to AED 350 in Bestimate's survey and AED 200 to AED 500 from independent home tutors, with the upper half of that spread driven by distance rather than by the teaching. Monthly figures of AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour visits circulate in this market. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi.

  • Presence in the room, which matters most for younger students
  • Travel time priced inside the hourly figure, usually unitemised
  • Choice narrows to tutors who will drive to your corridor
  • Cancellation terms are tighter because a wasted trip costs the tutor

Small group of two to four

Several students at a similar level sharing a session, which splits the fee and the travel between households. It is the cheapest honest format for content delivery and revision. It does not work for Internal Assessments, which must be each student's own work, and it does not work where students are at different levels of the same subject.

  • Per-student figure well below a one-to-one rate
  • Travel cost divided across the households
  • Unsuitable for coursework and for mixed-level groups
  • Works best for timed paper practice with shared feedback

01

The rate card: what Abu Dhabi charges, by programme and level

The table below is the thing almost nobody in this market publishes. Three of six competitor pages researched for Abu Dhabi and Dubai quote no price at all, and the two that do quote in US dollars, a currency no UAE family transacts in. Every figure here is in AED, attributed, and presented as the market rather than as our price list.

Read it as bands rather than as prices. Where a row shows a wide range, the spread is usually explained by three things: the level, how scarce that specialism is inside the emirate, and how close the examination session is. Higher Level sciences sit at the top of their band in February and in the middle of it in October, and that is a timing decision available to any family who plans ahead.

The small-group column is per student, and it is the honest budget option. It halves or quarters the hour without pretending to be one-to-one. What it cannot do is coursework, because an Internal Assessment, Extended Essay or Theory of Knowledge essay must be the individual student's own work and a shared session is the wrong place for it.

The indicative monthly column assumes one session a week. Bestimate's own monthly estimates for a weekly hour run AED 240 to AED 600 at the budget end, AED 600 to AED 1,200 mid-market and AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 or more for specialist examination-year support, which lines up with the arithmetic in the table.

The travel component, corridor by corridor

This is the table that explains the fee difference nobody itemises. An Abu Dhabi tutor quoting for an in-home visit is pricing a round trip, and the round trip is frequently longer than the lesson. The figures below are typical evening driving estimates between a central Abu Dhabi base and each corridor, which is where most independent tutors in the emirate live.

The arithmetic is unforgiving. A 60-minute lesson in Al Reef costs the tutor around two and a half hours of their evening once both directions are counted. At a notional target of AED 200 for an hour of their professional time, that trip has to be priced near AED 400 to AED 500 before the tutor is earning what they would earn teaching three online hours from a desk. This is why the top of the in-home band exists, and it is not greed; it is a diary.

It also explains something families find puzzling: why the same tutor quotes differently for different slots. A 5pm start in Khalifa City crosses the worst of the evening, and a 7.30pm start does not. Where a tutor offers you two figures for the same lesson, the difference is almost always the traffic between them.

The final column is the point of the exercise. Removing the car does not reduce the teaching; it removes a cost that buys nothing educational. A family in Al Samha choosing between one in-home hour and two online hours for roughly the same money is choosing between presence and twice the teaching, and for a Diploma student the second is usually the better purchase.

What a 60-minute session can actually finish, and what needs 90

Families buy hours and tutors deliver tasks, and the mismatch between those two units wastes a surprising amount of money. Some pieces of IB work simply do not fit into sixty minutes once you include the student explaining where they got stuck, and buying them in sixty-minute units means paying twice for the same ramp-up.

The pattern is consistent. Anything diagnostic, iterative or involving a long piece of writing benefits from ninety minutes. Anything drill-like, topic-sized or focused on timed technique fits sixty comfortably and often leaves the student fresher. The worst value in this market is a ninety-minute session spent on content explanation, where attention falls away after the first hour, and a sixty-minute session spent on a full extended-response cycle, which cannot be completed.

The practical consequence for a budget is that a mixed pattern costs less than a uniform one. A Diploma student might take a weekly sixty-minute session for technique and a monthly ninety-minute session when a piece of coursework needs a proper read-through, rather than paying for ninety minutes every week on the assumption that more is better.

The table below is a planning aid rather than a rule. Use it to challenge a quote expressed only in months: a provider selling eight sessions a month without asking what those sessions are for has not thought about this, and the family is the one paying for the mismatch. It is also worth asking the tutor which length they would choose for your child's specific weakness, because a tutor who has a view on that question has thought about the teaching and one who defers to whatever you prefer has not.

The extras that appear after the first invoice

  • Is work set between sessions marked and returned, and is that time billed
  • What is the cancellation window, and what does a late cancellation cost
  • Are written progress reports or school liaison inside the rate or extra
  • Does the rate change in the examination term or during school holidays
  • What happens to the figure if a second subject or a second child is added

Most complaints about tutoring fees in this market are not about the hourly figure. They are about things that were not in the conversation and then were on the bill, or about services the family assumed were included and were not. All of them are avoidable with four questions asked before the first session.

Marking between sessions is the big one. If it is not included, a sixty-minute session has to contain the reading, the marking and the teaching, and a family is buying perhaps forty minutes of instruction. Ask directly whether work set between sessions is marked and returned, and whether that time is billed. A rate that looks ten per cent higher and includes it is usually the cheaper product.

Then there is the cancellation window, which for an in-home tutor is reasonably tight because a wasted trip costs them a whole evening. Twenty-four hours is common; some ask for forty-eight. A family with unpredictable work travel should establish this before committing, because the cost of two cancelled sessions a term is a meaningful share of the annual spend. Report writing, school liaison, mock marking outside sessions and holiday retention fees are the other four that appear on second invoices in this market.

Finally, ask what happens to the rate if you add a second subject or a second child. Many tutors will hold a rate for a second subject with the same student and almost none will reduce it, because the preparation doubles. Sharing a session between two children of different levels is where families most often get poor value: both get a diluted hour and the saving is smaller than it looks.

05

Tuition against school fees and examination entry

Tutoring is rarely the largest education line in an Abu Dhabi household budget, and seeing it next to the others changes how families decide. The table sets out the items that recur, with the figures stated as ranges and the ones that are not ours clearly attributed.

A useful anchor from the neighbouring emirate: KHDA confirmed in May 2026 that there would be no increase in private school fees in Dubai for the 2026-27 academic year, under an economic incentives package valued at AED 1.5 billion within a AED 2.5 billion total. That is a Dubai measure rather than an Abu Dhabi one, and Abu Dhabi fee regulation sits with ADEK, but it tells you something about the direction of the regional conversation on education costs.

The two-year Diploma line in the table is the number worth calculating before DP1 rather than during DP2. A single weekly specialist hour across two academic years is a substantial commitment, and a family who sees that total in advance usually makes better decisions: fewer subjects supported, earlier start, more use of the Middle Years years when hours are cheaper and the return lasts longer.

Examination entry as a private candidate is included because it occasionally becomes relevant for retakes or for a student outside a school system. Entry fees are set by the board and the examination centre, not by a tutor, and should be confirmed with the centre directly rather than estimated from a tutoring site.

Where the marks actually go, and what each fix costs in hours

  • Content gaps: bounded, four to twelve sessions depending on how much is missing
  • Command-term handling: the cheapest fix, often four sessions and transferable
  • Working presentation and units: two to three sessions, immediate mark return
  • Coursework framing: two sessions in week one, or unfixable later
  • Timing and paper strategy: one or two sessions with timed practice

A fee only makes sense against a job. The most expensive tutoring in Abu Dhabi is the kind bought without a diagnosis, because it pays for a general improvement across a whole subject when the actual loss is concentrated in two or three identifiable places.

Across IB subjects the losses cluster in a small number of patterns. Content gaps, usually inherited from an earlier year, which are bounded and relatively cheap: the syllabus is finite and a tutor can work through it. Command-term handling, where a student who knows the material answers the wrong question, which is the cheapest fix of all and frequently takes four sessions. Working presentation in the quantitative subjects, where units, rounding and unstated method lose marks the student has earned. And coursework judgement, where the Internal Assessment was framed in a way that caps its ceiling regardless of execution.

The last of those is the one with the worst cost profile, because it is cheap to fix in week one and nearly impossible to fix in month four. Two ninety-minute sessions on the plan and the variable choice, bought early, prevent a situation in which no amount of later tutoring can lift the criterion scores. Families who buy those two sessions and nothing else often get better value than families who buy a term of weekly hours starting in February.

So the sequence that costs least is: get the marked evidence read, identify which of those four patterns is dominant, buy the narrow fix for it, then reassess. What costs most is buying a monthly package across three subjects and hoping the right thing gets worked on.

07

Packages, commitments and the questions that reduce the bill

Packages exist because they solve the tutor's problem, which is an unpredictable diary, and they can solve the family's problem too if the arithmetic is checked. A monthly figure for eight sessions is only good value if eight sessions a month is the right pattern, and for most Diploma students working on one subject it is not; four is.

The commitments that genuinely reduce an hourly figure in this market are the ones that reduce the tutor's risk. A term booked in advance at a fixed weekly slot is worth a real discount and most tutors will give one, because it removes diary uncertainty. Paying for a block up front is worth less than people assume and carries the obvious risk of a tutor who turns out to be the wrong match. A longer single session is not usually cheaper per hour, and for younger students it is worse teaching.

Three questions reliably move a quote. Whether a term commitment at a fixed slot attracts a lower rate, which it usually should. Whether a fortnightly pattern at ninety minutes costs less in total than a weekly sixty for coursework work, which it often does. And whether the tutor would rather hold a quieter slot at a lower figure than a contested 5pm one at a higher figure, which for anybody who can study at 8pm is the single largest saving available in this emirate.

One question to avoid: asking a tutor to beat a figure from somebody at a different tier. A specialist is not going to match a university student's rate, and the conversation signals that you are buying on price alone, which changes what you are offered. Ask for a structure that costs less instead.

08

Invoices, VAT and paying somebody who is permitted to teach

Two administrative points are worth settling before money changes hands, and neither takes long. The first is whether the figure you were quoted is the figure you will pay. The second is whether the person you are paying is permitted to charge for lessons in the UAE at all.

On tax: this page does not state how value added tax applies to tuition in the UAE, because that treatment should be read from the Federal Tax Authority rather than from a tutoring website, and several sites in this market state it confidently and inconsistently. What a family can and should do is ask any provider a direct question: is the quoted AED figure inclusive or exclusive of VAT, and if tax is being charged, what is the provider's registration number. A provider who cannot answer that clearly is telling you something about their invoicing.

On permits: private tutoring in the UAE is regulated through MoHRE, under Ministerial Resolution No. 710 of 2023, which created a private tuition work permit granted free of charge for two years. Those offering private lessons without it are, in the ministry's wording, subject to fines and penalties outlined in the applicable laws; no fine schedule has been published, so nobody can tell you the amount. Ask to see the permit before the first paid session. It costs the tutor nothing to hold and nothing to show.

Keep a simple record either way: dates, duration, subject and amount, with a receipt or transfer reference. It matters if a dispute arises, it matters more if a tutor stops responding mid-term, and for a family running support across two Diploma years it is the only reliable way to know what the whole thing actually cost.

Where we tutor

Areas we cover across Abu Dhabi

The single biggest variable in an Abu Dhabi in-home quote is where you live, because a tutor prices their round trip into the hour. The notes below describe each corridor as a travel problem rather than as a neighbourhood.

Khalifa City

A long trip from the island in evening traffic and the reason Khalifa City families see some of the widest quote variation in the emirate. The same tutor may charge one figure for a Tuesday 7pm and another for a 5pm slot in the same week.

Al Reef

Out past the airport, which puts it at the far end of most tutors' acceptable range. In-home quotes here sit near the top of the market band and some tutors decline outright, which narrows the choice before price is even discussed.

Al Ghadeer

On the Dubai side of the emirate boundary, so some tutors treat it as a Dubai job and others as an Abu Dhabi one, with very different figures. Worth asking which city a visiting tutor is driving from before accepting a rate.

Al Samha

Similar distance profile to Al Ghadeer with fewer tutors willing to make the trip. Families here routinely report that the choice is between a high in-home figure and an online session, with little in between.

Baniyas

Mainland and well connected, but a long way from where most independent tutors live. Group arrangements within a compound are common here as a way of splitting a travel-loaded fee across households.

Shakhbout City

Villa community with a steady flow of students transferring between curricula. The practical effect on fees is that transition planning sessions are often needed on top of subject hours, and families should budget for both.

Al Falah

Compact villa clusters where sharing a tutor across neighbouring households genuinely reduces the per-family travel loading. It works for revision and fails for Internal Assessments, which must be each student's own work.

Mussafah and the industrial corridor

Few tutors live here and fewer will travel to it in the evening. This is the clearest case in the emirate where online delivery is not a cost preference but the only route to a subject specialist at any price.

School ecosystem

Khalifa City, Al Raha and Al Reef

A quote given without evidence is a guess, and guesses in this market are high. A marked paper with component marks, or criterion scores for a Middle Years student, lets a tutor say how many sessions the job needs. That number, not the hourly rate, is what determines the bill.

  2. 02

    Ask what the hour includes

Marking between sessions, work set, written feedback, cancellation window, and whether the rate changes in the examination term. Four questions, two minutes, and they separate two products that are sold at similar figures and deliver very different amounts of teaching.

  3. 03

Take the free trial with the papers open

Forty-five minutes, no cost and no card details. Judge it on whether the tutor named a specific lost mark and said how many sessions the fix needs. A trial spent on reassurance has given you no information about value.

  4. 04

Pick the slot nobody else wants

The 5pm to 7pm Gulf Standard Time window is the most contested in the emirate. A family that can study at 8pm, or on a weekend morning, has more choice of specialist and more room on price than one that cannot. It is the largest single saving available here.

  5. 05

Review the spend against the evidence at four weeks

Compare newly marked work with the baseline on the specific component that was targeted. If it has moved, continue. If it has not, change the tutor or narrow the brief rather than buying more hours, which is how tutoring budgets in Abu Dhabi quietly double.

Why families choose us

What UAE parents tell us matters most

AED figures, with sources, in the currency you pay in

Three of six competitor pages researched for this market publish no price at all and the two that do quote in US dollars. Every band here is in AED and attributed to the provider or survey it came from, and none of them is an IB Gram price list.

The travel cost made visible

The gap between in-home and online rates in Abu Dhabi is largely a driving cost. Pricing it per corridor lets a family see what the premium buys, which is presence rather than teaching, and decide whether that is what they want for the money.

No travel billed, because nobody travels

Sessions run one-to-one over live video. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi, so there is no commute inside the figure and no slot priced by how bad the bridge traffic is that evening.

Hours tied to a diagnosis

Every session count on this page starts from what the marked evidence shows rather than from a package structure. That makes a budget checkable before it is spent, and makes it obvious when a narrow two-session fix would do the work of a term.

Straight about tax and permits

This page does not assert how VAT applies to tuition, because that belongs to the Federal Tax Authority. It does tell you to ask whether a quote includes tax, and to ask any tutor for the MoHRE private tuition work permit before the first paid session.

Questions parents ask

IB and IGCSE tutoring in Abu Dhabi: your questions answered

What do IB home tutor fees in Abu Dhabi usually include, and what sits outside them?+

Typically included: the teaching session itself and the tutor's travel, which is usually inside the hourly figure rather than itemised. Frequently outside: marking of work set between sessions, written progress reports, liaison with the school, marking of mock papers that are not done in the session, and any materials. Cancellation terms are the other variable, and for an in-home tutor they tend to be tighter because a wasted trip costs an entire evening. Ask about all five before the first session; a rate that looks higher and includes marking is often the cheaper product.

How much more does an in-home tutor cost than an online one in this emirate?+

The market bands overlap but the centres are clearly apart. Bestimate's 2026 UAE survey puts in-home one-to-one at roughly AED 180 to AED 350 an hour, with independent home tutors quoting AED 200 to AED 500, while qualified tutors working online sit at roughly AED 150 to AED 300, Unitors publishing IB from AED 200. Most of that gap is driving time rather than teaching. For a family in Al Reef or Al Ghadeer the gap is widest, because the round trip is longest. These are market figures, not IB Gram prices.

Is tuition in Abu Dhabi charged per hour or per session?+

Both conventions exist in this market and the difference matters when sessions are not sixty minutes. A tutor quoting per session at ninety minutes may be cheaper per hour than one quoting hourly, or considerably more expensive, and families comparing two numbers often compare different units. Convert everything to a per-hour figure before deciding, then convert again to a monthly total using the session pattern you actually intend to run. A quote expressed only as a monthly package should be unpacked into hours before it is compared with anything.

Does a visiting tutor charge separately for travel to Saadiyat or Al Reef?+

Usually it is not itemised, which is precisely why it is easy to miss. The travel sits inside the hourly figure, which is how the same tutor can quote one rate for a lesson in Al Bateen and a noticeably higher one for Al Reef or Al Ghadeer. A 60-minute lesson in the airport corridor costs the tutor around two and a half hours of their evening once both directions are counted. Where a tutor gives you two figures for different times on the same day, the difference between them is the traffic.

Do tuition fees in the UAE carry VAT?+

This page will not state the tax treatment of tuition, because it should be read from the Federal Tax Authority rather than from a tutoring site, and several sites in this market state it confidently and inconsistently. What you should do is ask the provider two direct questions: is the quoted AED figure inclusive or exclusive of tax, and if tax is charged, what is your registration number. Any provider invoicing properly can answer both in a sentence. Keep the written answer with your records.

Are monthly packages better value than paying session by session?+

Only when the package matches the pattern your child actually needs. Packages seen in this market run from around AED 799 a month for eight online sessions and AED 1,599 to AED 1,799 for four two-hour in-home visits. Eight sessions a month is right for a student working on two subjects and wrong for one working on a single subject, where four is the sensible pattern. A term booked at a fixed weekly slot is the commitment that genuinely earns a lower hourly figure, because it removes diary uncertainty for the tutor.

What does a late cancellation cost in this market?+

For an in-home tutor, commonly the full session fee inside twenty-four hours, and some ask for forty-eight. The logic is straightforward: a cancelled visit cannot be refilled at short notice and the tutor has lost the whole evening, travel included. Online arrangements tend to be more forgiving because the slot can sometimes be reused. If your household has unpredictable travel, establish this in writing before committing to a term, because two lost sessions a term is a meaningful fraction of the annual spend.

Why does Higher Level cost more per hour than Standard Level?+

Two reasons, and neither is that the tutor works harder. First, fewer people in Abu Dhabi can teach Higher Level sciences and Mathematics Analysis and Approaches to completion, and the market prices that scarcity, which is why the specialist band runs to AED 450 and above. Second, the work itself is different: Higher Level marks sit in extended responses that have to be marked repeatedly, which costs the tutor unbilled time between sessions. A quote that treats both levels identically has not accounted for either.

How much should we budget for the whole Diploma?+

Do the arithmetic rather than trusting a monthly figure. One weekly online session with a specialist across two academic years, term time only, lands somewhere around AED 12,000 to AED 30,000 depending on where in the band your subject sits. Two subjects double it. That total is worth calculating before DP1 begins, because families who see it in advance generally support fewer subjects, start earlier, and use the cheaper Middle Years years when an hour buys more lasting benefit.

Can two siblings share one paid Diploma session to halve the fee?+

Cheaper per family, usually worse per child, and sometimes not allowed at all. Where both children are at the same level in the same subject and working on content or timed practice, a shared session can be genuinely good value and splits both the fee and any travel. Where they are at different levels, both get a diluted hour. And it cannot be used for Internal Assessments, Extended Essays or Theory of Knowledge work, which must be each student's own work. A small group of two to four at a similar level is the structured version of this.

Do tutoring rates rise closer to the examination session?+

Effective rates do, even when published figures do not move. Demand across the emirate spikes in February and March, specialist slots close first, and families buying late find that the only availability is at the top of the band or in an inconvenient slot. The practical consequence is that the same person costs a family who books in October less than a family who books in March, for identical teaching. Booking early is the largest structural saving available in the Abu Dhabi tutoring market.

What is the cheapest honest way to move a Diploma grade?+

Fix the command-term problem first, because it is usually the largest pool of recoverable marks and the cheapest to address: four sessions, and it transfers to every other subject the student takes. Then fix working presentation in the quantitative subjects, which is another two or three sessions with an immediate return. Only then buy content coverage, which is the expensive part because the syllabus is large. Buying in that order typically costs a third of what buying a general monthly package across three subjects costs.

How much does Internal Assessment support usually cost?+

Budget it as a block rather than a monthly commitment: four to six sessions at the specialist band, which puts it roughly in the AED 1,200 to AED 2,700 range at market rates. The timing matters more than the amount. Two ninety-minute sessions spent on the plan and the variable choice before any data is collected prevent a situation where the framing caps the criterion scores no matter how well the write-up is done. The same money spent in month four buys far less. A tutor gives feedback on the student's own work only.

What should we send to get an accurate quote rather than a range?+

Four things. The course name and level, written exactly as the school writes it. A recent marked paper with the component breakdown, or criterion scores task by task for a Middle Years student. The school's internal deadline list for any coursework. And the two or three slots your household can genuinely keep each week. With those, a tutor can tell you the session count as well as the rate, which is the figure that actually determines what you spend.

Does IB Gram charge for the first lesson?+

No. The trial runs 45 minutes over live video, costs nothing and takes no card details to book, and you are free to take it, decline and try a different tutor. The condition worth stating is that it is one trial per subject match rather than an open series. Use it with marked work in front of the tutor, because the only question worth answering in forty-five minutes is whether this person can locate what is actually going wrong. IB Gram does not offer home visits in Abu Dhabi, so the trial is online like everything else.

Price the job, not the hour

The hourly figure is the least useful number in a tutoring decision. What costs money is the number of sessions, and that comes from a diagnosis rather than from a package. So send the marked work first, ask what the hour includes, convert every quote to the same unit before comparing, and take the free trial with the papers open. Remember that a large part of any in-home figure in this emirate is a car journey that teaches nobody anything. Every AED band on this page belongs to the market and carries its source, so you can hold any quote against it. Lessons run one-to-one over live video on Gulf Standard Time.
